User Account Control will not change in non-admin accounts

Q: User Account Control will not change in non-admin accounts

I have changed the UAC in my (Admin) account to turn it off. I have accounts for 3 other people, regular user accounts.
On those regular accounts, if you try to start several of the games I have installed (LOTRO, Neverwinter, etc.) UAC stops the game from loading, asks if you will allow, then rejects it as you need to be logged in as ADMIN to give permission.

I checked UAC while logged into a regular account, and it is turned on (After I turned it off in ADMIN account). It will not let me change the setting, saying I need to be logged in as ADMIN.

Now, I am NOT going to give my 8 year old granddaughter ADMIN rights, so how do I turn off UAC in that account?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello mac,

UAC settings can only be changed by an administrator. In addition, UAC settings are applied globally to all users on the PC.

User Account Control (UAC) - Change Settings in Windows 10

As a workaround, you could see if using the tutorial below to create an elevated shortcut that a standard user can use without getting a UAC prompt may help. However, this method does not always work for games.

Hi,
I have a Windows 8.1 system on a lap top that was used by a former employee. Her name was still on user name and I couldn't change it without Admin privileges (otherwise was asking for a smart card). Found out how to get in to admin in safe mode with Net
User Admin yes- then discovered that the old log in and information / desk top is no longer available. The docs are under Users (old employee's name) in C drive, but the docs and settings no longer show up and the admin log in is the only one available - no
option to change users.
When I went in and said Net User Admin no - thinking if I disabled admin user it would go back to the old log in -  there was no log in available at all.

Help?

The other day I thought it'd be a good idea to screw around with the settings on my parents' computer My parents say they can't trust me and you'll find out why My parents put a limitation in the first place for me to not w/ Control User administrator accounts problem (UAC) Account download anything malicious and around last summer I was always yelled at for using the computer at night so they put Parental Controls only the time limit from AM to PM and changed my account type to Standard User That means I can't use the computer at night even if I tried I was sick and tired of it User Account Control (UAC) problem w/ administrator accounts honestly so I thought the smart thing to do was to download an iso to burn to a disc to reset the password and or promote my account to administrator I downloaded the Trinity Rescue Kit and burnt it to a DVD in order to promote my account to administrator Little did I know the thing kind of messes up with your UAC I ignored the warnings In order to use Parental Controls you have to be a Standard User Which I updated my account's settings and well the controls didn't go away I still had the time limit and all the other stuff my parents put on User Account Control (UAC) problem w/ administrator accounts here I tried to go into the Control Panel to remove it and it did absolutely nothing When I clicked on my account's name it said I had to be a Standard User to change it I tried to change my account to a Standard one and it did absolutely nothing It remained an Administrator which I knew if I left my account as an Administrator my parents would one day find out that I've been downloading stuff and I've completely disobeyed them I later removed my parents' account's password and tried it there It didn't do anything but wipe their password oh great they're going to be more mad at me now My dad got really upset and threatened to delete my account along with all my files Here I am now on my sister's account on the machine I'm trying to access my account and type in the password but the User Account Control window pops up but the 'Yes' option is greyed out and there's no space to type in my password I rebooted into Safe Mode and saw that my account was not there I logged into my sister's account and the problem still persists On the login screen my account quot User quot will not show up when I booted it up earlier this evening it was working completely fine It said the warning that I wasn't allowed onto my account and then I logged into my sister's and rebooted and it was gone When I navigate to C Users - my account files are still there Not being able to access them because of the User Account Control window not letting me type any password or click 'yes' I have no idea what to do now I can't restore this machine back to the other date since it'll make my parents even more angry at me and I think using the DVD will just muck it up even more This is confusing me if anyone knows what they're doing and how to fix this please reply Thank you

A:User Account Control (UAC) problem w/ administrator accounts

I'm sure you do know the trouble you are in but there's really nothing else you can do but own up to the problem you have caused. Obviously the controls were put in place to prevent problems associated with nonresponsible actions.

Be prepared to have to do a Factory Restore on the computer/s if the login for your parents and/or your sister don't work. You might need a Linux LiveCD or LiveDVD bootable disc to first save any documents/data they have saved.

To avoid such problems in the future get your own computer.

Sounds like you have lost administrator rights.
Are you sure your password is correct?

Check and see if you can go to a restore point before this happened.
It might not let you do this either.

I am the sole user of this computer.

The control panel tells me I am an administrator but when I go into my account it says I am a standard user and won't let me change it to Administrator.

I just want to manage my own computer and - for instance - delete files on a CD which has somehow become write protected.

I googled lusrmgr.msc but when I put it in run was told this version of Windows 10 didn't have those rights

thanks in advance

Trying to delete files on a CD? Surely you jest!!! A CD is a read only device, you can NOT delete anything off of a CD.
How did you install Windows 10 without making yourself the Administrator. I've installed W-10 at least a dozen times so far and I've always come up as the ONE and ONLY Administrator.
But still, I have to install and use "Grant Admin Full Control" to be able to 'Take Ownership' of certain files and folders.

It sounds like you have infected your machine with malware. It is highly inadvisable to use keygens.

I'm trying to change the settings back to "never notify", but every time I click the link, after typing it in the search bar, nothing happens.

Wile in the user account menu, the 4 options with an admin symbol next to them don't work either. I'm assuming that's the problem, I don't have admin capabilities, although I should, I am an administrator.

Is this a common problem, or is it just me?

A:can't change Administrator User Account Control & Permissions

Another case of someone messing with permissions that they should not have messed with. "All Users" is nothing more then a junction to "C:\ProgramFiles" when you messed with the permissions of that junction you just messed up everything else concerning the system. See the links in my signature.

Basically I have two admin accounts one of which belongs to another member of family and one which belongs to me. Heres the situation:

The person who owns the other Admin account is changing my accounts password (also an admin account). Surely there is some way to make it so that I can not have my account's password changed unless it is logged on to my actual account (so my account's password can only be changed if my account is logged on?)

Is there a way?

A:Prevent Admin Accounts From Changing Other Admin Account Passwords In Xp!

Here's an article (for Win2K) that may help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309799But, IMO, the issue here is that the other person can't be trusted. In such a situation I'd suggest making the other account into a Standard User account - that way they won't be able to mess with your stuff, and they'll be reliant upon you for anything that requires administrative privileges.

Hi,
I am working on a 2012 ADDS based network and I have the following requirement.
I want to create a local administrator user account on the local domain computers (Win XP, 7 and 8) which will have full access on the PC but not the permission to edit other local administrator accounts.
Please advise how I can achieve this.

Thanks in advance,
Andreas

A:local admin account with no permit to edit other admin accounts

Local admin account by definition has access to everything and even if it doesn't it can take ownership and give itself the rights. In other words i am not sure that you can achieve what you
are trying to do.

I would suggest create a single shared local admin account and give it your desktop admins, change the password every 60-90 days to keep it more secure. This is common practice in many
organizations.

Hello tytlyf, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Let's start to see if you disabled or deleted your "HybridPC" by using the tutorial below to get details about all accounts on your computer while you are logged in to your "Admin" account, then post back with them. Afterwards, we can go from there.

I have a set of folder I encrypted from my user account. I haven't figured out how to access them from my admin account.

In reverse, while logged on my admin account, I droppped some files into folder encrypted by my user account. I can't access those files when I log on as a user.

How can I get access to all my encrypted files regardless of which logon I use?

A:Access my user account encrypted files from my admin account?

Umm...if you could access encrypted files from another user that would remove the whole point of encrypting the files to begin with.

Hi,

I added a user to my XP Pro and then switched admin privileges. That didn't work out as well as I expected, as when logged in my original account, my files were "read only". I switched the admin privileges back, but two problems persist: 1. my files are still "read only" even when logged in as admin, and 2. I am unable to delete the new user account ("permission denied").

Thanks very much for helping me.

~Dan

A:trouble with admin and user accounts

Hi .Just how did you go about switching admin privileges?FWIW: IMO, the read-only attribute really doesn't mean anything. If you check, you will find that any files on a CD/DVD are "read-only" and that makes sense, since the content of a CD/DVD cannot be modified while on the disk. But these files, when copied to a hard drive, may still reflect a "read-only" attribute...but they are indeed capable of being modified.Scroll down to Read-Only at http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/file/fatAttributes-c.htmlIf you are referring to folders/files that fall into the Docs & Settings category...that may be a different issue, one which simply requires your taking ownership of the files/folders in question. How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421 Louis

Like the title says I mean WTF It was a custom that a so-called friend of the family conned my mother into buying at inflated prices I checked Told my mom not to trust him but she felt sorry for him because he just lost his job working for a company that make computers Loser actually has the balls to act like I am a idiot that don t know anything about computers speaking to me like I read two account admin CDs the can from not my from I accounts. but Guest XP other Home am a baby This isn t the only problem I have but most of the others are manageable I had to put in a new RAM chip because the one he place in was only had megs added a gig RAM chip from best buy and a new sound card because there was no sound card I can read CDs from my XP Home Guest account but not from the other two admin accounts. Anyways I can see the disk drive in I can read CDs from my XP Home Guest account but not from the other two admin accounts. my computer and it knows when there is a cd in there I have to manually access the files or exe for installing things like Microsoft Office in Guest it basically does not autorun when a cd is place in but I don t even get that in my admin accounts It either sits there doing nothing or it tells me to insert a cd when I try right clicking on the disk drive in the I can read CDs from my XP Home Guest account but not from the other two admin accounts. admin accounts EDIT I am pretty sure that this problem has something to do with the OS or at least part of the software because I have taken the drives out and placed them in another computer before Unfortunately the guy that made the thing refused to give me the OS installion disk Didn t bother to put a CD image on there either

I have always been running admin and even until now I run as admin. But, I have been doing a little bit of research and realize that using a standard account is a safer practice. I have never even used a standard account. Is using a standard account a better practice? Also, how does doing average task such as installing programs and updating work through the standard user account?

A:Using default admin account vs standard user account

Its safer to always run programs with lower privileges, and run as administrator when needed. Personally, I like my UAC set to the max. Basically, it stops programs from messing with your PC without permission.

hello every one
I was hoping if some one could help me at this.
I had created a local account in my machine which is a part of a small office network. and given it administrative rights. every once in a while the account gets downgraded to a limited user account and a I had to go all the way to control panel to reset the settings for that specific user account. I tried background check on the machine to check it for possible malware or virus infection but couldn't find anything.
could it be the user profile settings getting changed athomatically due several usages or could it be log file getting full or needs to be cleared?
so much in need for help

possibly because that comp didnt come with Ultimate and when it re-activates, it uses the true Admin account and resets the others.

okay freshly into win now having obtained a new hdd for my comp I have been running as the admin of my computer since accounts became an unavoidable thing barring the occasional frustration-induced blunder I tend to stay Properly Paranoid in my habits to make sure I have no problems but win doesn't think that I could ever be intelligent enough to have full rights on any account other than the built-in admin account which of course I'd want to avoid using outside emergencies that render other accounts damaged somehow so I'm looking to find out how to make another user account with FULL admin rights not just the constantly have to get permission stuff that a standard snort admin account has full rights that don't involve constantly having to run as administrator yes yes I've heard people trying to get me more paranoid so that I'd endure the added hassles all it does is make me more irate with the situation so if noone's willing to provide me with instruction on this it's probably best for the thread to be left to fall off the board

Hi,
In our company, there are few computers where we can access only limited user accounts. I went to control panel >> user accounts >>...it shows the only limited user account name like "xyz". It doesn't show us any administrator account names, why is it so? And how I can make it happen in my personal computer?

A:xp shows only limited account name in user account control panel

Because you are logged in as a Limited User, so you can't make changes to the computer. Speak with your Network Administrator at your company.
At the log in screen hit CTRL+ALT+DEL 3 times fast. This will give you the traditional Windows Log In Screen. If you have the Built In Administrator accounts password, you can log in as Administrator and create a new Admin user account.

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, or even if this is possible, but...

Is there any possible way to make it so that my normal account can be transformed into an administrator account?

In order to make one of my games function properly, I need to enter the task manager and set the affinity so that the game uses 1 core to operate. In order to do this, I have to run the application, switch user accounts (from mine to the admin), set the affinity there, then switch back.

It gives me no option to apply administrative settings when I try to set the affinity on my main account, it just tells me I can't.

Any help would be great, thanks!

I am running Windows 7 64bit, 32GB Ram, Dual 10 core processors.

All accounts on the box will randomly get locked out. This lockout is occurring "at least on the surface" with no repeated log-on attempts or no repeated bad password entries. Simply press a keyboard or move the mouse to unlock the system, enter password and it says account is locked out. I attempt to switch users and it says that account is locked out also. Every user and Admin account on the box is locked.

This behavior is randomly happening. I have not been able to duplicate the problem.

Password complexity is enabled and it has a file the password is measured against
Number of bad retries attempted is set at 3
An administrator must unlocked the account once it is locked.

Again, this box is not a part of a Domain, thus no domain controller is controlling the user account.

It should still be there. I am assuming you were using the "Administrator" account?

To get to it, at the welcome screen do CTRL-ALT-DEL twice until a username/password box appears. Then Type in Administrator for username and then your password and hit OK. This should let you into your desktop.

Afternoon all Looking to see if anyone has any information about local admin control while on a domain Basically we'd like to give our laptop users the ability to use UAC with a local administrative account but we want to ensure that users or anyone for that matter do not have Admin UAC Control Account the ability to log into that local admin account Basically an Admin account with all the permissions it needs to uplift the standard user's permissions that has no profile to log into We've come into situations where we've been giving a UAC Admin Account Control local admin account to travelers with their laptops only to find on their return that they've created their own local UAC Admin Account Control admin accounts with their temporary travel account to circumvent UAC when they are back in the office Which of course is completely unacceptable Is it possible to create the local account log into it then log off log into another Admin account and give the new local account quot no permissions quot to any of its user folders What are the side effects of doing that

A:UAC Admin Account Control

Not entirely sure what you're after, but I would suggest using a simple standard account and giving them the permissions they need to use what programs you allow them to use. Also, you can lower the UAC settings to prompt less often or not at all (As they wont be administrative, they wont be able to get around the UAC).

Why don't you run the program as a system service? The program is kind of a system task... isn't it?

Here's my scenario nbsp I have a Windows Pro x SP machine setup for standalone use nbsp I am using local group policy to lock down many settings nbsp I have accounts in the local administrators group admin accounts nbsp The real administrator is disabled nbsp Here's what's happening nbsp after of standard accounts local admin creation All disabled are user If I create a new standard user from the control panel all admin accounts get disabled immediately nbsp I checked the admin accounts settings before and after the new user is created and the disabled checkmark appeared during the process nbsp Now when I create a new user using the computer management console vs the control panel it works fine nbsp The difference is that in the computer management console you must set a password at the time of account creation vs in the control panel you create an account with no password nbsp So my guess is that somewhere in my group policy it doesn't like an account being created without a password but why would that disable all administrator accounts nbsp Has anyone else experienced this

Back again, I'm not sure if I'm too paranoid or something's really up much too often. Today, the permissions box for the following came up:

Program: User Accounts Control Panel
Publisher: Unknown
Location: this hard drive

I clicked "no" for permission. I googled it and read it is due to the UAC settings. But I've never changed any settings. So the question is, am I infected?

Thank you.

Edit:
A few notes:
Also, a few days ago MBytes found PUP.azlyrics.A infecting chrome in two files. It was removed. System seems to be running fine. I have Norton Security installed and it runs scans daily.
PC is Windows 8.1.

I have multiple problems and am looking for advice on what my first step should be I am running Norton Anti-Virus and use LavaSoft AdAware to remove spyware My Norton has been telling me for a couple of weeks that Live Update is not working and indicated that a file it needed was not found I tried to download and run a setup program for LiveUpdate and it told me that I did not have permissions to Control Panel thru No Accounts User create a directory I went to Control Panel No User Accounts thru Control Panel to check the setting for my account which should have been the administrator and there were no accounts listed at all there should be five on the User Accounts window While trying to figure out what to do I found info about booting up in Safe Mode and tried that I logged in as the administrator and looked at Control Panel User Accounts and once again there were none listed I was not able to get to the Internet while No User Accounts thru Control Panel in Safe Mode so I could not try the download and run of the LiveUpdate re-installer As a side note because you never know for sure what symptoms are related I have had a problem for at least several months in Internet Explorer where selecting a link will misdirect me to the wrong No User Accounts thru Control Panel link If I go back and reselect then I get to the proper link Yesterday during all of the travails I listed above I noticed a new issue through Internet Explorer - I can no longer print anything Selecting Print Preview throws up the Preview window with nothing in it Mozilla FireFox is also installed and through that it looks like I can still print websites Lastly I ve noticed through Internet Explore there are some website things that I can no longer do Some screens like a bank account manager screen no longer show me all of the selections I can see them and do them from my work laptop so I knowthey still are there This is a relatively recent phenomenon perhaps on the same timeline as when the Norton LiveUpdate messages first started coming out At this point of my problem discovery I starting using language of the kind you guys don t allow through this forum and I called it a day I ll appreciate any and all suggestions on where I start and what to do Thanks nbsp

Has anyone run across this before? If I go into control panel and click on user accounts a message just comes up that says Out of memory. But if I go into Administrative tools, computer management from the control panel I can perform all user account functions. Does anyone have any idea why the icon from control panel user accounts gives that error?

Thanks!

When you say "hit save" are you refering to a office application suchas word?
By default they will save in Documents (for instance it would be C:\Users\Steph\Documents (presuming Steph is the active user name)) if you are referring to word however if you choose a custom directory / location it will open up the last saved location. You can change the saved locations for office applications presuming that is what you mean.

Hi Brink,

I just woke up my computer and saw a UAC prompt for User Accounts Control Panel. I didn't do anything to prompt it. I was able to disable it right after, though. Should I be worried that something on my system must've prompted it?

A:UAC prompt for User Accounts Control Panel

Hello Malickfan,

If you have your UAC settings set to "Always notify" (top level), then it would give you a UAC prompt when you try to open the User Account Control Settings.

If this happens each time you wake or restart the PC, then check to see if you may have mistakenly added a shortcut to it in your startup programs.

Hope this helps for now.

I think I may have totally messed up my computer here at work Please excuse the lack of computer terminology I am horrible at technical issues So initially I had a problem with my user account logging in My work has Windows XP installed btw My user account would freeze while loading my personal settings I say freeze with a question mark because I could still hear the CPU running processing but I'd wait minutes and nothing would happen I rebooted the computer in Safe Mode and User (run: Deleted Accounts userpasswords2) control logged in under the Administrator account removed all passwords from each user account and ran a Norton full system Deleted User Accounts (run: control userpasswords2) scan which didn't find anything Also I could log into my personal user account under Safe Mode with no problem I could log into the other user accounts normally as well while not under Safe Mode I got the wonderful advice to have Windows bypass the login screen and start up automatically by going to the Run command and use control userpasswords and highlighting my user account etc I got that to work BUT it automatically opens the Administrator account the list of users in the Deleted User Accounts (run: control userpasswords2) Users Accounts Window was not fully updated so I thought and I had the grand idea of deleting users that I did not see on the log on screen and adding my own user account None of this worked and pretty much backfired on me So now I'm left without any of the original accounts and I'm about to have a panic attack because of my own stupid mistakes Is there any way to restore those accounts I know they aren't completely deleted or are they At the log in screen only the Administrator which is displayed when there aren't any other users and another user account which I guess I luckily didn't delete are displayed Help

Hi there,

I am setting up for a "learning centre" some computers, the people have learning difficulties etc and the pc`s are used for internet browsing etc, for teaching them also.

The pc`s are going to be getting messed up in terms of icons moved, taskbars moved etc as some have issues with co-ordination etc, i would like seek advice on which options within windows xp - which either revert easily to a previous state or stop icons being moved or deleted etc - wallpaper being changed etc......but make sure they can get onto the internet and e-mail etc?

Apparently, my Control Panel is nowhere to be found.
I've looked everywhere, and when I try to search for it in run, it says I don't have administrative permissions, even though I'm on the Owner account, and there IS no other account. Also, because of the lack of permissions, I can't install anything or change my clock. Help? If you need more information, please tell me what and I'll try to explain myself better. Thank you!

A:XP: Missing Control Panel and No Admin Account!

Welcome to TSG forums.
Not sure this will work , but you might try right clicking on my computer (in Vista computer) and select manage. there is a menu of several choices there, click on User, then again on user when the box opens, you should be able to access the administrator and or change the user stuff there.

I have two user accounts on Vista Home Pro.
One is a standard, limited user account (password protected) and the other is my admin account (obviously with admin privileges and password protected).

I am not sure when this started happening but I am unable to launch control panel under my admin account.
I get a pop-up of "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".
The title bar of this pop-up has "::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}"

What I can do is launch control panel from my standard/limited user account and, when prompted, enter the admin password.
Seems my Admin account has somehow become corrupted. If so how can I fix it?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Walter

A client of mine has a system whose administrator account has been restricted. No Windows Update, no Control Panel, can't RIGHT-click on My Computer and select Properties.

Solution?

A:Admin account restricted - no control panel

If this is Windows XP Professional, have you checked the Group Policy?
Start => Run and type in gpedit.msc

For the Updates look in:
User Configuration
Administrative Templates
Windows Components
Windows Update

For the Right-click context menu look in:
User Configuration
Administrative Templates
Windows Components
Explorer

For the Control Panel look in:
User Configuration
Administrative Templates
Control Panel

Set any entries to "Not Configured".

So this is probably the strangest problem I have ever encountered with Windows About two or three months ago I noticed that my user account had suddenly changed into a guest account I get prompted for an administrator password when trying to do any tasks that require administrator privilege It is not a huge hassle as I know the administrator account password Here a change changed it User can into account, I account how back guest is where it becomes very strange When I turn my computer on it automatically logs me into my user account the guest account When I got into the user accounts section of the control panel and try to manage user accounts it shows exactly zero user accounts on my computer Also when I try to change my user account the guest account to an administrator account precisely nothing happens It User account changed into a guest account, how can I change it back gets evens stranger When I log out of Windows the only user account I can pick from to log back into Windows is the generic quot Administrator quot account My user account is nowhere to be found When I go to the control panel and try to manage accounts only the administrator account is listed There is an option turn on a generic guest account but nothing related to my original user account is shown Again this is in contrast to when I am logged into my user account the User account changed into a guest account, how can I change it back guest account and see exactly zero user accounts listed on the manage accounts screen I feel that I am pretty good at avoiding bad websites and I do have an antivirus program installed not that that will prevent my computer from being infected but I have used it to do full system scans and I have found nothing on my computer every time Additionally I have Windows updates set to be automatically installed so all of the updates have been installed on my version of Windows I tried asking Microsoft support directly all I got was that no user accounts showing up under the manage user accounts tab is a pretty bad sign and that in order to fully diagnose the problem I would need to sign up for the quot Assure Plan quot or whatever it was called which cost for one year Forget that option for now Does anyone know how to resolve this issue How can I switch my original user account from a guest account and then how could I make it an administrator account once I have retrieved it so-to-speak from being a phantom guest account I mean I know the administrator password and all and so I have been able to essentially use my computer as if nothing is wrong But this whole issue seems very very strange and so I want to see what you guys have to say about it I hope these are not the signs of a more serious and potentially major issue Thanks in advance for anyone's help with this

A:User account changed into a guest account, how can I change it back

Hi and welcome to the Forum
When you refer to the generic Administrator Account do you mean the Account that is hidden in Windows 7? If so did you activate it using this:
Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable If you did the above then this is strange as forgetting the "Hidden admin account you must have at least one ordinary Admin account in Windows 7. You can't operate the system without one!!

I just reinstalled Windows XP Professional (after a failed attempt at a newer operating system) and when I open the user accounts menu and choose change name, the window opens along with a small box saying Unspecified error. After closing it, I try to click in the area to start typing a new name, but nothing happens.

Everything else works, I can create a password, change the picture and what not. It's just the name. I am the only account (thus a computer administrator). Please help.

Click Start / Run and type in the following control userpasswords2 and click OK . Then click the Advanced tab and then the Advanced button. Then remove desired accounts, rename the administrator account and click Apply & OK.

A:User Accounts Can't Delete bad or corrupt account in UAC

I recently had a similar issue where another account was created that i dont want.. I removed the user through the normal channels but the folder was still there and I was denied access to delete it.

I have a remedy that will definitely delete it but if you say they have the same name, you may remove the wrong one.. How many user accounts total do you have and have access to with name and password?

I can walk you through to rename it and reboot and see if all is ok and if there is no problem I can walk you through the delete if you cant at that point already...

If its not urgent lets give it a day or two and see if anyone else has the proper solution instead of the forced solution that I have.

Ok so here's my problem This has all stemmed and started from an issue I'm having trying to play The Sims I'll try to keep it short on THAT issue Basically I've installed The Sims and every EP IT worked FINE but then adding a user mod caused it to corrupt the exe or something because I couldn't then get it to launch After wiping The Sims off COMPLETELY CLEAN and reinstalling all again WITHOUT the user mod It loads create issue. Can't User accounts 2nd account. and runs fine EXCEPT when clicking on 'Create a Household' it then CTDs EVERYTIME with an appcrash and fault module being d d dll I've tried EVERYTHING to correct that including reinstalling directx NOTHING works Ok SO I thought maybe trying it on a new user account So I created one but upon logging off it is nowhere to be seen in the login choices and instead just shows my usual Admin account I use everyday and a blank box named as 'Other Users' I rebooted and when it restarts it stops before desktop loads and comes up with the default Admin logo the flower and says 'your account has been disabled Please contact the administrator' I managed to get things back to how they were fairly User accounts issue. Can't create 2nd account. easily but HOW can I stop this happening and how can I do the simple thing of creating a new user admin account Please help Many thanks

A:User accounts issue. Can't create 2nd account.

Hello Bazerk,

Try this: uninstall all Sims user created content as well as the game and all EPs. Log in as an administrator and run this tool: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You might instead consider doing a system restore if you have one to a point before the trouble began: System Restore. make sure you try an SFC scan (linked above) after if you do do this to make sure everything is working well.

Check to make sure you have installed all of the lastest microsoft updates.

Into your start menu search bar, type "DXDIAG" without quotes and click it. Let the diagnostic run. It should tell you which version of directx you have installed on your system. If you have a 64bit system, click Run 64bit Diagnostic.

Be careful with user created content, not all of it is safe or stable.

With your completely updated antivirus, perform a full scan an your system. Sometimes the Antivirus itself could interfer and cause problems. Consider temporarily disabling it when next you decide to install the Sims game.

Directx should be installed already or installed with the game install. You shouldn't have to go to the internet to find it in download form.

A:Sharing same dropbox account for two different user accounts possible?

File sharing sites use a traditional user name and password,
So technically if you use the same login it shouldn't matter if it's a different user or computer.

On my laptop I created a new user account called "Colin". When I looked (in Windows Explorer) under "users" there were two new accounts listed, one called "Colin" and one called "Colin.laptop". Of these, only "Colin" appears at Login or if accounts are viewed under "User Accounts" in Control Panel. Yet the "Colin.laptop" account is the one where newly created files etc are being stored when logged in as "Colin".
I'd appreciate help in understanding this and do I need to take any action?

Thanks
Paul

A:Creating new user account adds TWO accounts

Was this created during install or added to other User Account(s) afterwards? What about the other User Accounts now? If you had a Colin account established at install then it will hang around in some places even after deleting until a reinstall.

Did you establish Colin as an Admin account? If so is the other Colin also an Admin account when you look in User Accounts>Manage another Account? Can you delete it if it shows up there as a Duplicate? If so put its files on desktop until you're sure.

Hello everyone,

I'm new to Vista, but want to create another user account so that I'm not using my Admin account. It seems that this is suggested by Microsoft as it's safer.

I have all my programs installed and now I want to create a user account without admin rights that has all the settings, look and feel etc that I have set up with my admin account.

Can I copy the admin account and then just turn off admin rights? or is there some other way of doing this?

Thanks for the help and your time.

All the best to you,

Glen

A:How to hide Manage User Accounts in Control Panel

Hi, If you type your title into google you get this, simple isn't it:-

Run Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).
Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList

Note: If SpecialAccounts and UserList is not found, create new sub-key and name them accordingly.

Select UserList, and in the right pane, right click on any blank space, and point to New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Name the new DWORD registry value name as the exact same name that match the name of the user account to be hidden.
For example, if the user ID of the user account is John, the name the registry value as John.

Double click on DWORD registry value, and set the value data to 0 in oder to hide the account from Welcome Screen.
Tip: To display the user account on Welcome Screen again so that it?s visible again, delete the registry entry, or set the value data to 1.

Exit Registry Editor.
Log off or restart computer to make the change effective.

Tip: In order to login into Windows using an user account that has made hidden and invisible, just press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up Windows Logon dialog, and then type in the user name and password manually.

How come the UAC is set to the lowest setting for the admin, but for a standard user it is still set as default (requiring admin password)?

A:User Account Control for standard user.

Built in admin bypasses UAC, hence the setting. Any other users (even users created as admin) get UAC prompts.

This is one of the many reasons security best practices dictate creating a second admin account and disabling the built in one.
