Q: Is this processor compatible?

Athlon 64 x2 4200+ with a Asus M5A78L-M LX PLUS

If its not what would be a good motherboard thats compatible?

Preferred Solution: Is this processor compatible?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Is this processor compatible?

The Athlon will not work with that motherboard as it is socket AM3+

You need a socket AM2 board, Or an AM2+.

So my brother has a Foxconn 2ada 1.00 motherboard Link:
and wants to upgrade to a good processor, willing to spend $100-$200. What do you guys recommend? Is it worth investing more than $200.00+ for a CPU for a better gaming experience? He has also has an Nvidia Geforce GT 620 just as an added note. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! One website said this Link: but I trust you guys more...

A:Need a compatible processor

Well, it is a 1155 socket motherboard. Hence, you can technically fit in any Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge that is below the recommended motherboard/CPU wattage. In this case, that is 95W. I think a i5 and i7 will be a waste. What processor does he currently have? I think a Pentium or i3 is a good option.

hello, i'm tuning up an eMachines T2385 and I need to know about using a different processor.
I just installed an Imperial 137001 motherboard which is OEM for the machine,
originally it had a Celeron 2.3ghz processor.
in my parts box I had a Pentium 4 1.6, which improved the thing somewhat.
I now have a line on another Pentium 4, it's a 2.8ghz.
will it run on the imperial motherboard?
I tried to find the answer by way of research but there's not a lot of stuff out there about imperial boards.

This is a dumb question but I'm getting kind of confused at replacing computer parts. I recently had a bent pin on the cpu connector on my motherboard and, well, let's just say I made it worse. I need to buy a motherboard that will support an
i7-4770k, preferable around or under the $100 range. What do I need to look for? If I'm understanding this right, I need to make sure my cpu socket has pins because my cpu itself doesn't?

A:What mb is compatible with my processor

The i7-4770k CPU has pads. The compatible socket is the '1150' which has pins.

You need a motherboard with a socket 1150 and which has one of the following chipsets - H81, Q85, B85, H87, Q87, Z87, or Z97.

The choice of specific make and model of motherboard is a somewhat subjective one. What is suitable for one person may not necessarily be suitable for another person.

The features YOU require in a motherboard will determine the best motherboard for you.

that's saying my processor, which all i remember off the top of my head is a 2.6 ghz pentium 4 , isnt compatible because the speed of my processor isnt posted on the biostar site.

would my processor really not be compatible?

Ill try to find out more specific specs of my processor.

A:Compatible board for P4 processor

I wonder... Why did you buy a P4 for a new build? How much did you pay for that? You can get a dual-core AMD CPU for 40-60$, and that beats P4 totally... Consider returning that P4, as it just isn't worth your money... :/

This is the reason why I no longer buy brand name "proprietary" PCs anymore. Too many problems with simple upgrades.

You should be able to flash back to the old bios unless gateway PCs don't allow that. You probably flashed to an incorrect bios.

I have a Dell Dimension XPS R slot processor processor compatible - 100MHz? A:133MHz processor - Backwards compatible to 100MHz?

If I understood correctly, the 1000E is for 100MHz, the 1000B is for 133Mhz, and the 1000EB should work for both 100 & 133.

Not quite. I'll explain what the E and B mean with an example:

P3-600: 100MHz FSB, Katmai core
P3-600E: 100MHz FSB, Coppermine core
P3-600B: 133MHz FSB, Katmai core
P3-600EB: 133MHz FSB, Coppermine core

The E means it has a Coppermine core, the B that it runs at 133MHz FSB. The P3-733 is merely called a P3-733, not a P3-733EB, since there is only one version of it (133MHz FSB, Coppermine) and there is no need to add the E and B to differentiate it from any other version. Same for the 866 and 933. You can run a 133MHz FSB CPU on a 100MHz FSB, but it will run 1/4 slower since the multiplier is locked, i.e. a 600B running on a 100MHz FSB will only run at 450MHz. A P3-1000B running on a 100MHz FSB will therefore be stuck at 750MHz.

I'm buying my daughter a new computer. I have limited money so I'm thinking referbished. I have a couple of Dells. Both choices have AMD Athlon processors. One is 64 Duel Core, the other is x2 processor. I'm not sure if one is better or both the same. I learned a lot from reading the forum on this sight but I'm still a litttle confused. Both of the computers have integrated nvidia Quadro nvs 210s graphics. She mainly uses it for internet (UTube video) and Sims. She plays sims 2, and just got Sims 3 but her old computer is not capable. Sims 3 requirements name many nvidia Ge Force, Radian (several) and intel GMA 3 & 4 series. One I can confirm does work for sure is Photoshop - use it on mine with no problems. As for partitions, I wouldn't bother - just get another HDD to put your data on. With modern systems that have their recovery data on a hidden partition you're better off leaving the main drive well alone.

I recently upgraded to a HP,Media Center editon pc, Windows XP, AMD Athlon 64 3800+2.4 GHz Processor.

When trying to install Photoshop Album 1.0, I receive this message, "This operating system is not supported by Adobe Photoshop Album. We support Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 , XP Intel Pentium III or 4 processor".

Could my problem with installation be the Athlon processor? When purchasing this computer, our salesman convinced us that the Athlon was just as good as the Pentinum Processor. Any thoughts on this? My computer is less than a week old and having serious thoughts about returning it. I have had problems with other installations. Am I to expect more problems with software and the Athlon processor. Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated. I am getting desperate for advice about the processor.

A:Athlon Processor versus Pentinum Processor in Windows XP

What the message is telling you is that Windows Media Center Edition 2005 is not one of the operating systems that Adobe Photoshop Album 1.0 supports. It has nothing to do with whether an Intel processor or an AMD processor is installed. I checked the system requirements for the newer version 2.0, and it also is not supported by Windows MCE 2005.

By the way, Adobe Photoshop Album 1.0 has a 13.5 MB patch for it and will upgrade it to version 1.0.1. You can get it from here.

Can any body tell me the main diff between the core 2 duo processor and core 2 duo processor with centrino.

A:Diff between centrino processor and core 2 duo processor

In a word nothing, the centrino branding does not refer to any specific additions to the processor, it is simply a label that is attached to laptops which use intel branded processor, integrated graphics and wireless chips.

Centrino is more of a marketing tool that Intel use to boost sales of their graphics and wireless chips, so you can pretty much ignore it

I need to order a new desktop for my office to replace a 3 year old machine that runs at 3.2 Ghz. The new machines that Dell offers only has this option:

Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX6700 (8MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1066 FSB)

I don't think there is a standard measuring stick that is used to compare all the processor speeds that I can find or understand. I work with CAD programs that use up a lot of resources and I typically get the fastest available and max the RAM. With all the latest software that I have to install, I need the new machines to run faster than the ones they replace.

Can anyone tell me how this 2.66GHz processor compares to my current machine? I don't have the exact specs for it, this is what it lists on the dell support site for my system - PROCESSOR, 80532K, 3.2GHZ, 1M, 533, M0.

Hello everyone,

I want to build a new system, and I was wondering just what the differences between a sever processor and a desktop processor are.

Would I see gaming performance decrease by using a Quad Server Core or a Quad Desktop Core?

I wanted to build a dual socket server core and have 8 physical cores.

A:Server Processor Vs. Desktop Processor

I dont think any games are designed to take advantage of a dual socket setup. Windows Server OS's are designed to take advantage of dual socket setups. Some newer games are coming out which take advantage of single socket dual or quad core setups on desktops. A server based PC would not gain any performance for games IMO. You are better off investing the extra $ in a good video card.

Hi, I recently updgraded an old T61 with a Sandisk 128gb SSD (the "PLUS" model). It worked flawlessly for about a month when the error "2100: hdd0 initialization error" started to occur at every startup. As it is my mother's computer I was only able to check a few things from distance, it may be a connection issue or something simple.. But anyway, from what I read it is more likely an incompatibilty with the SSD, so I wanted to know if there are certain hard drives that are compatible for sure, preferably not as old as the laptop itself ( so other than the ones originaly shipped with it). I installed the middleton BIOS on the laptop. I really don't care about storage capacity, 7200rpm would be ideal though. Thanks for you help !Gab

A:Compatible HDD with T61

Welcome to the forum.
This could be a compatibility issue but since the SSD did work flawlessly at first, it's more likely to be an early hardware failure. One way to confirm this would be to put the SSD in an external USB enclosure and then see if it works from that. If it works then there's a compatibility issue. If you still get error messages then the drive has failed and you should return it for a new one.
If it does turn out to be a compatabilty issue, go to Sandisk's website and see if they have firmware upgrades for this drive. Make sure you're using the most current firmware level.
Generally the SSDs that people on this forum recommend most often are made by Samsung, Crucial and Intel.

A:New with CPU's Is this Compatible?

Welcome to Seven forums.

From the board specs it says it supports Core?2 Extreme CPUs, so it seems you are good to go. The faster FSB may indeed help the machine bit not the higher clock speed.

You can still buy LGA775 chips?

I just bought a new PC that unfortunately does not have enough RAM (512MB instead of 1GB) to run the OS (Vista basic) it came with effectively.

Here are the specs for the machine.

This is the memory it came with: 512MB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM memory 2 DIMM (240-pin, DDR2)
Is there any way of telling if this RAM is compatible?

Memory Size 512MB

Memory Speed 533MHz PC4200

Memory Type DDR2

Memory CAS Latency 4

Pins 240

Frys built my system the specs are : MSI x58 platinum SLI Motherboard, Intel core i7 920 2.66 processor, 6GB RAM, nVidia Geforce GTX260, inside an antec nine hundred case.....

how would i know if this is compatable?

I think i currently have 2 HDDs atm, they told me one was for the OS and the other for everything else. this is all a little over my head.

also, is this what you guys would get for a gaming rig?

A:How would I know if this is compatible

It is compatible, but the ease in setting it up will depend on how Frys setup the existing system. Why don't you just ask them. They should have no problem in telling you what you want to know. They may think you are going to buy the drive at Frys... no need to tell them, unless they ask.

The 533, 667, and 800 are the speeds it supports, 800Mhz being the fastest supported speed. DDR2 is the type, all DDR2 is 240 pin. Non-ECC means its not Error Correcting Code - its used in servers and workstations but not home system to fix memory errors.

If you want to be sure you buy the correct RAM I wold suggest you visit the website of a memory reseller or manufacturer an use their memory selector to choose the right RAM. Example:

Hi, I just upgraded my computer with a new OCZ 120GB SSD.
I wanted to connect my original HDD, two 500GB WD 7200rpm.
However, when I connect all three hard drives on my mobo, SSD does not appear on bios.
If I connect just the SSD, it shows up, and if I connect just HDD, it shows up as well.
However, I cannot find SSD from boot up priority menu if HDD is also connected.
There are only three choices: HDD, DVD Drive, and Floppy disk... which I do not have.
Is there a problem with compatibility? Or did I do anything wrong?
I didnt mess with any RAID or anything (I dont even know how to.)
Please help! Thank you

A:SSD and HDD not compatible?

You have to be sure that your BIOS sees the drives. If BIOS can't see them, Windows won't see them either.

Once that is done, make sure all your cables are securely attached.
That might seem obvious, but i messed with my brother's computer for nearly half an hour before checking the cables.
Doh! The data cable was uselessly dangling in there.
Amazingly, it worked fine once I hooked it up- ha!

A:Compatible or not?

I can tell you that if you want to get some quality gaming done, you will need a motherboard with a PCI-E slot. It's just impossible to get any decent FPS with your PCI slot limitation. I ran a FX5200 in my Dell 3000. It was a little better but I hate to tell you but you must at least have an agp slot and at this stage of the game you would be shopping for a PCI-E slot. I would also get a larger case to build in because the Dell 3000 is so small and you will need room for your machine to breathe and have a chance at cooling. Don't be bummed. Start shopping and do a lot of studying on each part that you might use. In the end you will be happy instead of frustrated.

A:USB 3.0 compatible with USB 2.0

Hi there,

If your External hard drive is a USB 2.0 device, you will not see an increase in performance by plugging it into a USB 3.0 socket on your computer. There will not be an advantage to you using a usb 3.0 cable in your USB 2.0 device either. I would use your original cable that came with the external hard drive.
Unfortunately you will be stuck on usb 2.0 speeds as far as I am aware.

Hi All

I'm looking to get some form of network storage that I can use between my PC, Laptop and PS3. I have been looking at Lacie and WD:

I have heard poor reports about the WD drive though, apparently there's a supscription needed to access the full remote features!

Ideally I would like around 1tb, but 500gig would do for now as long as I can connect additional hard drives (daisy chain) to the NAS box for extra storage/backing up. FTP access would be useful too so I can access my files anywhere.

Have any of you done similar? Can you provide some advice on the best way of doing this?

A:NAS compatible with PS3?

SimpleTech NAS are very stable. WD not a fan of there devices. They just started to sell 1TB units here cheap for $320.

Do you have a router between the PC, laptop and PS3? Not hard to configure the device to the network.

I have a fairly modest AMD athlon 2000+ xp 1.67Ghz, with winXP pro SP2. I have 256MB ram, 80 GB hard drive, DVDRW 8X, Acer LCD Monitor etc etc
Philips Ultimate Edge 5.1 Sound card and currently a very basic Nvidia Riva TNT2 64pro video card.

I intend on upgrading the video card to start with and perhaps get another 256MB ram.

I am looking at a MSI GeForce FX5700U-TD128 (128 MB) AGP Graphic Card. Would this be compatible with my PC? And would all of the above with this card be enough to run PC games such as Fifa and Pro Evolution Soccer? Even slightly older versions of the game?

I am assuming that you need an AGP graphics card, since you listed an AGP card as one of your choices.
However, we would need your motherboard info to be sure.

If your motherboard uses an AGP slot, then yes, the MSI FX5700 AGP you saw would be compatible.
The only factor of compatibility in choosing a video card is the interface type (PCI, AGP, PCI-Express).

However, I would recommend that you upgrade your RAM to at least 512MB.
But to be honest, 1GB would be the minimum for any desktop system these days.
You won't get much better performance with a new video card if you don't upgrade your RAM, because with 256MB, your system is barely getting by, even just running day-to-day tasks.

For most people with a computer that still uses AGP, I would recommend the mid-range GeForce 7600GT AGP. This is a respectable mid-range card that would play most games on medium settings, but it would undoubtedly be bottlenecked if installed on your system.
It's hard to find a decent AGP card that won't be bottlenecked by your CPU...

I have a line on a few sticks of ram, the part # is KTM4982/2G , and I was wondering if it is compatible with my PC? My PC model is an Acer Aspire AST671-EP820A. I am not sure if the sticks of ram are specific to a brand or model of computer, and I am hoping I am able to add 1 or 2 of these sticks to my own comp.

I am computer illiterate, can run & use general programs but dont understand the technical jargon and have the following system (Belarc Advisor Info):- Intel Celeron 667MHz, 20Gb HDD, 256MB pc133 SDRAM, FDD, 52x32x52 CDRW, Windows 98SE, Broadband ADSL. My question today is: Can I upgrade to Windows XP Home Edn? Can I put in a DVD Burner? Can I put in an AV Capture Card? I would like to transfer Analog Video Camera Tapes to DVD including editing etc. Could someone please advise what extra memory, hard drive space, processor speed i would need? Thanks.

Can you upgrade to XP Home?
yes, it will most likely run but will seem pretty slow considering the cpu / amount of ram you have.

Can you install a DVD burner ?
Absolutely, should run just fine with what you have.

Can I put in an AV Capture Card?
Most likely yes, but considering the amount of cpu speed/ram you have, I don't think it will function very well. ( I am not up on video capturing etc..)
any converting of video to DVD require lots of cpu / memory ( the more, the merrier)

I can offer many suggestions of what you should get, but I have no idea what budget you're on.

2.5 Ghz or faster
1 gig memory
80 gig + ( the bigger the better )

good luck

Hi i need to upgrade some components on my PC, i was wondering if you could tell me if these components are compatible...

-MSI A85XA-G65 AMD A85X Chipset (Socket FM2) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
-AMD A4-5300 3.40GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Dual Core Processor (AD5300OKHJBOX)

And also if they are compatible with my current graphics cards which are 2x nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX 768mb. I think i may need to upgrade my ram also as it is DDR2?

Thanks in advance for any help

A:Are these compatible?

Here is the support page for that mb;
As you can see the cpu you selected is listed as supported.

The board has 2 pci-e slots so yes you can run those cards.

Yes you need new ram.

FWIW, you are spending money on a new cpu, mb, and ram yet you want to use video cards that are going on 7yrs old. The 8800 was released in late 06 so it is getting very long in the tooth now. Seven years is more than a lifetime in the tech world.

I am finally looking at upgrading to Vista Home Premium since I've heard the reviews of the SP1 fixes.

I'm determining if I should get 32-bit or 64-bit.
Can anyone tell me if my system and programs will be compatible?

I think I answer most of my own questions, please bear with me:

Motherboard: Asus P5B Deluxe
Processor: Intel C2D E6300
Memory: Corsair XMS2 6400 (4GB)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon x1950pro Ultimate edition
Keyboard: BTC 9019urf wireless keyboard
TV Tuner: Hauppauge PVR-250MCE (I checked the site and they have no x64 drivers)

oki doki guys here we go again. Im pretty sure all this is compatable but my dad is making me check before i go and spend alot of money:

graphics card:

thanks alot guys

Looks alright to me, although your motherboard can take faster RAM if you're interested:
It's only £2 more as well

If you want to OC, get the 5000+ Black Edition. It has a smaller nm process than the 6400+ so it will go faster and run cooler. If you don't want to OC and/or don't have any experience in doing it before, go with a regular 6400+. The only difference in the Black Version is the unlocked multiplier which allows you to make it run faster.

atm im running with 1 gb ram but gonan buy another and better one. what ram do u recommend : 3 gig ram OR 4 gig ram to be compatable with cpu ??

A:RAM compatible with CPU?

Wouldn't it be helpful to know the motherboard, and the operating system ? That information is what is usually needed first... then the memory answer comes fairly quickly.
I would not want to try to match the existing memory module, but rather to buy new modules all of the same brand and specs... mixing memory modules too often slows things down a bit.

Hey Everyone

I am going to buy this latop from

(It is a link to the laptop on newegg. It is an Acer Aspire V3-551G-8454 Notebook.)

I want to put in 4GB more of RAM so it has a total of eight, however I'm afraid I will buy RAM that isn't compatible with it. I would like to purchase the additonal RAM from as well.

Could someone please help it would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I have found a 4GB RAM stick that I believe is compatible however can anyone confirm this?

A:Compatible RAM? Help please!

That laptop is listed as having 4 GB of RAM, but it doesn't indicate if it has a 1 - 4 GB module or 2 - 2 GB modules.

You also don't know what DDR3 speed the module(s) in that laptop is.

You should wait until the laptop arrives so you can confirm both of the above.

According to the CRUCIAL site for that laptop, the recommended 8 GB(4 GB X 2) matching modules is:

204-pin DDR3 PC3-12800(DDR3-1600), 1.35 volt, CL=11, unbuffered, non-ECC

The 4 GB module that you selected is a slower speed DDR3 PC3-8500(DDR3-1066).

I need to burn a data CD in XP so that it will preserve long filenames and extensions when accessed on a Mac. I currently have Roxio Easy CD Creater software installed on my PC, but the last CD I burned did not preserve the long filenames. Any suggestion on how to resolve this? Can this be achieved using drag-and-drop technique instead of using Roxio?

Can anyone offer any suggestion on freeware/shareware that will preserve long filenames when burning a CD? Don't forget that I will be creating the CD in WinXP, but the CD must be readable in both XP and Mac.

Last time i tried to burn a data cd using roxio 5 dvd edition unregistered, it made the file names all strange, so i used nero 5. Ive also done it using XP burner too.

hi everyone

my name is calmat and i have just joined your windows 8 forum and i would like to ask what anti-virus
can i use on my laptop because i tried to install MSE and it has told me that this antivirus programme
is not compatible with windows 8.
regards calmat

A:MSE not compatible

MSE stopped with Win 7 and has been replaced with built in Windows Defender on Win 8. 3rd party anti virus all have pros and cons and are a matter of choice whether to install them or not. Often they will react differently on different computers.

I personally use only WD and Malwarebytes Pro only. They have served me well and have had no problems. There are many posts in this forum showing the benefits of one or the other. As always, use common sense when visiting unknown sites and don't open unsolicited email attachments.

Hi peeps hope you can shed some light on helping me decide what SSD to get I have a Gigabyte GA-X -USB MB which my i overclocked rig is built on I am in the middle of starting a new build but I am keeping this rig and thought about upgrading the last thing thats pretty much worth upgrading on it and thats an SSD At the mo it runs two TB samsung F s to old MB for SSD Compatible which I will keep for extra Compatible SSD for old MB storage but the MB in is old now and I dont think these Compatible SSD for old MB fancy SSD s will be compatible with it Here is the tec sheet for the MB Click me I think the xsata connections are sata so that limits my options so whats the best SSD I can get for this old board need one abut gig that plugs into the sata connections available OR Do I get one of these OCZ GB PCIe Thanks mucho for any advice Lee nbsp

A:Compatible SSD for old MB

It's SATA2 on that MOBO. New SSD's are SATA3, but they'll just run at the slower SATA2 speed.

So, get the cheapest most reliable one since any SSD r/w speeds are now faster than SATA2.

The SSD you linked is insanely fast, and also pretty darn expensive. It's up to you really - but it will run at max speed on your mobo.
