Outlook 2016 - Exchange Server and POP3 email accounts

Q: Outlook 2016 - Exchange Server and POP3 email accounts

I use Outlook for all my email requirements One BTinternet com email address One Outlook com email address Previously had above two email accounts sending and receiving from the same PST file each using POP Wanted to change the Outlook com to IMAP with my understanding being that this would then sync both ways with the web-mail for Outlook com Deleted the old POP account settings for the Outlook com email address and then went through the process of setting up again using the automatic configuration rather than the quot manually configure quot 2016 Outlook POP3 accounts email and Server Exchange - thinking this would automatically use IMAP Left settings unchanged for the POP BTinternet com email address To my surprise the Outlook com email address was not setup as an IMAP but as an Exchange Server Initially thought this would be ok as this would also Outlook 2016 - Exchange Server and POP3 email accounts sync both ways with web-mail Soon discovered however that any email coming in to my still remaining BTinternet POP email address was also arriving into the Outlook com Inbox Why is this happening and what do I have to do to still keep the POP email Outlook 2016 - Exchange Server and POP3 email accounts separate from the Exchange Server email each using their own Inbox Both Inbox's are listed in the left hand panel Outlook 2016 - Exchange Server and POP3 email accounts of Outlook Any help much appreciated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Main email account iin Outlook 2010 is POP3 with 50+ rules for distributing email into folders. Attempted to set up a secondary account which is an Exchange account. No rules needed for this account; volume will b v low.

Rules set up for the POP3 account are being applied to both the POP3 and Exchange accounts. Exchange account is rejecting rules and declaring them invalid. From main email menu in Outlook, going to Rules and then Manage Rules and Alerts, I can see that the rules are being applied to both accounts. I cannot see how to get rid of the Exchange account in Manage Rules and Alert.

I have dropped the Exchange account till I can get advice on this, and will have to restart set up of Exchange account but hopefully with some guidance on how to avoid over zealous application of rules beyond the POP3 account for which they are intended. My Hotmail account is unaffected.

Thanks in advance

I am getting much more spam than other users in my company. I use Outlook Express via Pop3 to get my email while other use Outlook 2003 via an Exchange Server.
Would I see a drop in spam if I used Outlook 2003 to access my email using Exchange Server instead of Outlook Express via Pop4?
Thank you for looking.

When sending internal mail and default is the exchange server it works fine. But if you are sending an internet mail it trys to go thru the exchange server also. If you list internet mail as default it does not send exchange mail. How do I make it start with one service and if it does not go to automatically use the other service.

I use Outlook 2007 for my work e-mail that uses Microsoft Exchange Server. I also have another part-time job with an SMTP e-mail address and two (2) personal POP3 e-mail accounts. I want to have all of them under Outlook 2007 but am concerned that the primary work Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail will "see" my other personal e-mail accounts. Is this the case and, if so, how can I prevent the Exchange server from viewing my POP3 e-mail addresses?

Over the weekend we installed a new Exchange 2016 server running on a Server 2012 R2 Std VM (through Hyper-V) and connected all of our workstations running Outlook 2010 to it. They stay connected for awhile (maybe an hour or two) but then go to "Trying to connect." The really strange thing is, OWA works, email on phones works and connecting a computer outside of our network to Exchange through Outlook seems to stay connected fine.

DNS checks out fine and resolves like it should. We can ping and browse to the Exchange server fine.

Strange but I get several "Search" errors in the event log when it seems to stop. (Event ID 3036 the content source cannot be accessed) as well as Event ID 35 - Failed to determine if the store is in the crawl scope.

I am at a loss right now so any help would be appreciated!

Hi Everyone,

I have just installed Office 2016 Professional Plus and I am attempting to access an email account that was originally using Outlook 2007.

The email Server that I am connecting to running Exchange Server 2007 SP1.

Whilst I was able to add the account in Outlook 2016 as Outlook opens it presents the error messages below (in the order shown).

If anybody can offer any advice on how to get around the issue above it will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

A:Outlook 2016 not working with Exchange 2007 SP1 Server

Exchange 2007 is not supported to work with Office 2016. You will need to downgrade Office or upgrade your Exchange server. I recommend you upgrade the Exchange server to 2016. Or swap to a full Office 365 solution.

A recent cumulative update for Exchange 2016 was intended to add support for Windows Server 2016. But, after numerous reported issues, Microsoft has acknowledged a problem exists.

According to the release notes?

If you attempt to run Microsoft Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016, you will experience errors in the IIS host process W3WP.exe. There is no workaround at this time. You should postpone deployment of Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016 until a supported fix is available.

Once again, Microsoft?s testing of its own patches seems to have taken a backseat to accelerated release deadlines.

Hello, I currently run XP on my home PC and intended to upgrade to a machine operating with Win 8.1. However got wind that 8x does not support POP3. I am not a tekky so don't really know what POP3 is other than my current home email uses it. Seen other discussions on this issue including how to get around this but all looks very complicated. So the question is does Win 7 support POP3 email? Regards.

A:POP3 email accounts

Hi and Welcome to the Forum. Windows 7 does not have a native email program within it. Most people use the free download Windows Live Mail or Windows mail. They both accept POP3 accounts. Both those free programs work on Windows 8 so you have no problem keeping your POP3 accounts. There are loads of other third part email programs out there!

I have the POP3 account from my Webhost and IMAP set up with my AOL account in my Outlook 2000 program.

I configured the POP3 account with mail.(domain).com for both incoming and outgoing, with port # 25 for outgoing.

For the IMAP, I have set up for incoming, and mail.(domain).com for outgoing with port #25 for outgoing.

I want to send emails using the mail.(domain).com account and not the aol account, as I'm trying to eventually quit using the AOL account.

I can receive emails fine, but for some reason, when send a test email to my yahoo account, I can't see the email. The Outlook program doesn't register any errors, and the email goes in the Sent Folder.

What am I doing wrong?

A:Cannot Send Email With IMAP and POP3 Accounts?

Check with your ISP to see if they have any restrictions on sending mail through mail servers outside of their system. We has AT&T DSL at home and when I want to send e-mails through my work server, AT&T requires that I to use a secure connection (SSL) to mail port # 465 on the company server. AT&T does this to make it more difficult for a spammers within their network to relay through third party servers.

Perhaps this will help: Not all email is created equal: an introduction to POP3, IMAP4 and MAPI | Blog (More links are at the bottom of that page.)

Just because you change the method of access doesn't change the location of emails which are on the server of the email service providers (the server names on the account tab of the properties for each email account). If you have been keeping work and personal email separate, they were separate because the email service providers are different. For example, it's possibe for someone to have 10 separate email accounts with 10 different email service providers located in 10 different states or countries. That person would then install 10 accounts in their one Outlook program, or if they have 2 devices, then install the accounts on either or both devices. Just be careful to use the appropriate type of service (pop3, smtp, imap, or mapi) depending on the features you want for each account.

I've had a Exchange 2007 instance at home for test, play and general abuse to learn on, broken and fixed it several times.

This allows me to try things before I do anything in the live enviroment at work. I stress its not live, doesnt have any other use other than a test bed. Obviously it functions past the 180 day period and just warns every time I run the console.
In the coming months we're moving upto Exchange 2016 at work and I'd like to re-create my test bed at home. Which seems perfectly possible with the trial version.

Question is does Exchange 2016 at the end of the trial period simply carry on with the warnings as 2007 did ?

i have edited and removed your email address

you have reached your storage limit on the server
and thats a generic email sent , since you have reached this storage limit, yahoo automatically send out an email and also they stop you sending or receiving email

log into yahoo via a web browser and delete some of your emails
start with the "trash"/"bin"

IMAP will still connect and synchronise with the server
POP will not download anymore emails - as you will not be receiving them - because of the storage limit being reached on the server

I have someone running his e-mail through OE6 and he is having problems receiving his mail, he is using Tiscali as his ISP. I have checked for virus's with his Mcafee and ran a scan for adware/syware and nothing was found. He is running Windows XP home.
I am slowly running out of possible ideas, has anyone any other suggestions?

A:Outlook Express 6 pop3 server resetting itself

Get the phone-number, email, POP3, SMTP (and proxy if needed) settings from Tiscali.
Then uninstall anything from Tiscali.
Then manually setup again with the Tiscali info.
Their installation (from a CD?) screwed up your internet settings.
Tell that person to use Firefox/Thunderbird, not IE/OE.

Some AV programs set POP3 to, and substitute the scan-port.
However, that person's best bet would be to dump that creepy Tiscali altogether.

Did you use the test function in Outlook when you set up the account?

Don't bother with the "Test" function in Outlook - it often fails for no particular reason.

If you did use it, try sending yourself an email the normal way.

The error you receive can be caused by

Incorrect Email settings.
Incorrect scan settings on anti-virus software (if any).
Corrupted account settings.

First, carefully check your settings. Make sure EVERYTHING is spelled correctly, spacing is correct ([email protected] instead of [email protected] .com), punctuation is correct . instead of ,

One of the most common causes of this error is invalid user name/password. Re-enter them.

Turn off your antivirus email scanning software if all settings are correct.

Since you deleted the account and recreated, the chances are slim that the account settings are corrupt.

Your mail server may also require SSL. I don't know where it is located in Outlook. Find Requires SSL and check the box. Make sure to apply any changes.

If none of this works, post the mail domain which could help us in working with you to resolve the issue.

Also, let us know if you are still receiving duplicate mails in Outlook.

like the subject says. Since I've been using my iPhone 4 with unified inbox for quite a while now, it is a bit annoying to keep switching between IMAP inboxes in outlook 2010. POP3 accounts are fine, all mails can go to one favorite inbox, but IMAP accounts work differently, by the look of it. The same was in outlook 2007, but I was wondering if there was a plug-in or extension of some kind that enables to use just one inbox?

You help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Unified inbox for multiple IMAP/exchange accounts? [Outlook 2010]

Is this what you are looking for:
Set Up Single Inbox Folder For All Accounts In Outlook 2010

Launch Outlook 2010 and from left sidebar, select an account, right-click it and hit New Folder. From Create New Folder dialog, enter an appropriate name and click OK.

Now head over to Home tab and click Manage Rules & Alerts from Rules drop-down button.

From Rules and Alerts dialog, select an account and click New Rule.

In Rules Wizard, we will start off with creating a blank rule, click Apply rule on messages I receive and hit Next.

In this step of the wizard enable through the specified account option. From bottom of the dialog window click specified account and select the desired account from Account dialog window, and click OK.

You will see the specified account in the bottom of dialog window. Now click Next to continue

In this step, enable move it to the specified folder option, now click specified in the bottom of the window and select the Generic Inbox folder recently created, from new Rules and Alerts dialog.

You will see the folder name in the bottom of the window. Click Finish to end the wizard.

It will bring you back to Rules and Alerts dialog, showing newly created rule. Click OK to apply this newly created rule.

For associating this folder with other accounts, repeat the whole procedure to direct all mails from multiple accounts to Generic Inbox folder. On receiving emails, you will see all the emails in the specified mail folder.

Please post back with results.

I have had some success in further troubleshooting of Outlook The culprit with Outlook running very slow and swamping the system at CPU usage is with one of the three email accounts I Account CPU - Stopped Usage POP3 Outlook - Email 2003 Climbs Working had set up with it Outlook 2003 - POP3 Email Account Stopped Working - CPU Usage Climbs I deleted the email account entirely and now Outlook runs smooth as a whistle with very low CPU usage But does anybody know why all of a sudden that email account started messing up Outlook I tried adding it back as a new email account but it keeps telling me the following error when I TEST THE SETTINGS Log onto incoming mail server POP Outlook could not connect to the incoming mail server POP The problem could be your SSL or port settings for the incoming server Verify your port and SSL settings under More Settings on the Advanced Tab I have done this and called the folks who handle that email server to verify I have the correct settings but still get the above error Also when I attempt to re-add the email account CPU usage climbs to above - and Outlook no longer runs as smoothly nbsp

A:Outlook 2003 - POP3 Email Account Stopped Working - CPU Usage Climbs

First, outlook is a good tool, but a poor choice for email. Consider using other software
such as Thunderbird.

All the data in Outlook (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Email) is held in the single .PST file for each user;
the bigger it gets, the more time and cpu it takes to get into it.

As for the errors, it would appear that the settings are wrong.
The pop3 stuff is for reading your email from the ISP and the smtp is for sending;
each can be correct / incorrect.
You need the pop3 domain name (something like or
the correct port number (usually 110), AND
the proper login (secured or unsecured).

The sending side almost always requires a secured login on port 25.

Until recently we had all emails from two different domains coming to us from ISP for internal distribution using our server. We have now split the companies and deleted that email address from internal users on our server but when we send email to to personnel on the old account they are still being directed internally by our server and then can not be delivered as the user accounts have been deleted. How do we reset the server so that the old addresses are no longer seen as "internal" accounts?

Not sure where to bring this one.

Looking for any information on this topic as I have heard both scenarios are true. I have read both scenarios in a MS group support on web site but I can't find them anymore (was a while ago)

Exchange 5.5 -

If an email is sent to 2500 users in a distribution list, are there 2500 copies of that email sitting on the server or is it simply a copy that is viewable by all 2500 users? And what if they save it to a folder they created (not in a personal folder directed elsewhere but to a folder they created under the folder list)

Thank you

Hi can anyone recommand an email client (other than outlook) that will work with exchange server? A client that offers the same functionality of outlook but cheaper/free?

A:email client that works with exchange server

If the company has an Exchange license, the Outlook license is a minimal cost. I'd be surprised if they're even sold separately.

Well, first and foremost.....cost would have to be discussed. It's quite possible that they didn't go the Exchange route the first time due to cost.

I think you need to import the required info into Outlook 2007 -

On investigation, this disappears if the LAN settings are disabled. The problem with that is we loose internet connection. We do use a proxy server. As a work-around we can disable the LAN settings in IE7and connect to the internet with Mozilla using manual proxy settings, but surely IE7 and Outlook 2007 must be compatible?

When I overlay say the meeting room calendar with my default exchange calendar, I notice that it seems to default the meeting room calendar as my main calendar. So everytime I create an appointment or try to add one, it automatically attempts to save this in the meeting room calendar. If the calendars are in side-by-side view then my exchange calendar remains the default.

Anyone know how i can keep my exchange calendar as default when the calendars are in overlay stack view?

Thanks in advance

A:Outlook Calendar using Exchange Server

In overlay view, one is able to see all the event on all calendars at once, however they are still different calendars and each one has its own tab.
You must select your calendar (and thus bring it to the forefront) when creating events. However if you click an area where an event is already scheduled on the other calendar, then it will think you mean to edit it and will bring the other calendar to the forefront, as a result your new event will be on the wrong calendar. In that instance, take the calendars out of overlay view to properly schedule your event.
The bottom line is that your default calendar is ignored if you physically select a different calendar to create a new event, no matter what view you are using.

They can recieve emails fine

But when they try to send them, the emails appear to just sit in the Outbox. If you close and open Outlook. The Outbox is empty, but the email was never sent.

I belive the issue is with the router or the ISP. This is not an SMTP (port 25) issue, since they are using MS Exchange client to send and recieve the emails and they are on a VPN connection.
The VPN connection is working fine since they are able to recieve MS exchange email without a problem.

Hello out there....

?This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.?

I do not have this issue w/ Thunderbird or webmail, etc.

Any thoughts on this?

Anybody else experienced this & have a fix?

Had a similar issue when a user installed Chrome and then uninstalled it. Did you uninstall or upgrade Chrome recently? It seems that they still need to polish some of the uninstall code as it leaves some registry items in a broken state. It?s not that IE isn?t the default browser, it?s that the registry entry for the default browser gets mucked up by Chrome. Checking and unchecking default browser in IE or Chrome won?t fix it once it?s busted.

I've seen this problem everywhere but no answers yet... I'm using Wix XP Pro on my office machine, with Adobe Pro 9.0 and McAfee security, among others. We're on a network, so we have exchange servers for Outlook and our timekeeping software (Client Profiles). We're still using Office 2003, and I don't think there's an upgrade in the works any time soon.

When I customize my Outlook toolbar and restart, the customization is lost. I've tried deleting outcmd.dat without success. In MS Word, I've tried Shift+File and Save All, and that works. So what's the companion key combination in Outlook?

Any help would be great - thanks.

I searched a free solution to open OST files without Microsoft Outlook and Exchange server named OST Viewer that gives complete freedom to open OST files including emails, contacts, calendar, to do list, notes, journals, attachments and other components. If someone has corrupt OST files and want to open it, then don’t worry because this application has dual scanning modes (Quick & Advance), select “Advance scanning” mode to recover all data from corrupted OST files and open it into software panel.

I thought I would be tricky and get my personal laptop to access my work exchange server in much the same way my blackberry is able to.

Now, my Outlook opens and I get the attached outlookerror1.png error message and then a box asking for the exchange server info then clicking ok or cancel I get the attached outlooerror2.png.

I would like to remove the setting and open outlook normally so I can add my pop3 personal email and pretend like I never did that.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything including removing all office files from the app data and program files folders and erasing all the outlook registry entries I could find.

I want a number of people to be able to view and edit a calendar in Entourage on a Mac but without the burden of having an exchange server Here is what I have done in the past on a PC Move the data file I forget exactly what it is exchange Entourage/Outlook server calendar w/o a in Sharing called right not in Outlook from the desktop to a location on the server where everyone has access rights to it On the PCs I used a mapped drive to indicate the location of this shared file Now other people can add that file to a folder so it shows up in the left hand list of folders along with your own email account and they can choose to switch back and forth between their own calendar and the shared calendar It really works quite well with certain limitations The primary limit is that only one person can Sharing a calendar in Entourage/Outlook w/o exchange server be in it at a time But for a small business where people only need to see the file occasionally it works well My goal currently is to do something like that in Entourage but it is different enough that I am not sure how to do it The point is that the boss syncs her Treo with Entourage but is out of the office most of the time Once she syncs we want to all make our changes as they arise us in her Entourage account with her making necessary changes on her Treo until she returns Then we can sync again and begin the Sharing a calendar in Entourage/Outlook w/o exchange server next round Yes there is the possibility of conflicting appointments but it is a minor problem in this case So anyone know how to do this on a Mac environment with Entourage rather than Outlook nbsp

Running an exchange 2010 server.

I have a number of users who's email will disappear.
Mail will return if you disable any type of sorting filter.
However will disappear again if you change folders.
This will effect any folder not just the inbox.

I have tried the following.

Recreating the profile in Outlook 2007
Deleting the pst and ost files
Adding new sort field and removing it.
Disabling cache mode.

I have not preformed an office 07 repair yet as did not think it would have any impact.

This is effecting about 10% of my users.

Thank you for your help.

We ve been having intermittant issues with Outlook quot not responding quot hanging up freezing whatever server exchange with issue and Network 2007 outlook you want to call it after weeks and weeks of troubleshooting today I have narrowed it down to the belkin g wireless router I did Network issue with outlook 2007 and exchange server this by finally taking the router out of the mix and could not cause the outlook to lock up again thought it could be a lan cable tried both cables in that mix from the DSL modem to the computer without the router and it still worked fine Hooked back up the router and managed to lock it up again SO all that being said is there a setting or someting on the router that I may be missing or something that someone knows about that I do not BTW if this matters at all we have a second computer that is also running outlook attached to the same hosted exchange server and it s having no problems at all Previously we looked at any problems with ost and pst files ran Outlook diagnostics etc to no avail - the router is the only problem that I could find The computer this is running on is an XP and all firmware is up-to-date on the router and all updates for MS office have been made I am desperate if anyone can help I would be most appreciative and would be willing to pay if someone can fix it thanks Brandon Morris nbsp

A:Network issue with outlook 2007 and exchange server

It sounds like you have a flaky router. You might just need to replace it. If it works without it and you plug it back in and it breaks again it's the only explanation. If you have another router somewhere try switching them. Hope this helps.

I know this is a question relating to xp but i couldnt think of a better place to ask for help.

Does anyone know how one might go about converting an existing pop3 email account to an exchange server email account in xp? Any advice or pointers would be much appriciated.

Go to tools>accounts>click on your account>servers. Change POP3 to IMAP. If you are not allowed to make the change. Set it up as though it were a new account.

Then go to your email website to get the correct port numbers etc. to complete the setup.

This is assuming that you have Outlook Express with XP
