Touchpad not working

Q: Touchpad not working

HI.I have a TravelMate B115-M, and the touchpad is not working at all. In order to do anything, I had to go out and get a wireless mouse. I've tried FN-F7, but that doesn't seem to actually do anything. I even went to the drivers page and tried downloading there but still nothing. When I look under control panel or dvice manager I dont see anything there for a touchpad either. I could really use some help here. Oh, yeah, and I'm using Windows 10 if that helps. Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Touchpad not working

Since it doesn't work at all, go to Control panel, Programs and Features and uninstall the touchpad driver there and make sure that there isn't any other driver installed for the touchpad. Then go to Device Manager and uninstall the touchpad if it still shows any driver. Then reboot and let windows install the default driver. It should do something with the default driver if it was just a driver problem.

A:Touchpad not working, usb mouse does, touchpad never works even w/o usb mouse

Hello Tristan,

Welcome to the forums.

Been a while since I had a laptop, but I seem to remember there being a setting on what to do with the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in. Unfortunately I don't remember where and have no way of finding it.

Have you tried rebooting with the mouse unplugged?

Sorry I can't be of more help. The manual for the laptop ought to have that info in it somewhere.

I have a Lenovo S41. After trying the recommendation of removing the touchpad from devices, the device did not reinstall. I went to the link provided to download Lenovo drivers, and upon installation received a message that the driver I download doesn't work with my device. Yes I downloaded a driver for the S series, and a 64-bit operating system. Please help, it's very inconvenient having no touchpad!

Good day and welcome to the community.

Which specific S41 model do you have? I see three on the support site: S41-75, S41-70 and S41-35.

Looking at each support page, I see the touchpad driver package, which is apparently a composite installer supporting three different touchpad models: Synaptics, Elan and Alps.

S41-75http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-S-Series-laptops/s41-75/downloa...synaptics 19.0.9.5, Elan 11.4.65.2, ALPS 8.201.1611.246

Does this help?

A:G40-70 touchpad not working

Hi negozin ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Have you checked the hidden devices on device manager if any of those would show with any yellow marks / unknown device? The support site do offer Touchpad driver for Win10 that you can try .

You can Reset the BIOS defaults by turning off the pc and using the Novo key to access BIOS set up . F9 to load defaults and F10 to save and exit . Allow to restart and check if touchpad would be able to move the mouse.

Update us how it goes.

if you goto to
control panel
Mouse
then you should see settings for the touchpad - is it disabled

often the F leys to use are FN + (F9 or F11) - should see a symbol of a touchpad

Welcome to Seven Forums. I would most likely try re-installing my Touchpad drivers, then take a look at some of the 14 different utility drivers offered.
As I'm not familiar with all the utilities or what their functions are.
I'm sorry I haven't the time right now to research them but their are plenty of very knowledgeable members here that I'm sure we can get it sorted out. Fabe http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

My Asus touchpad won't work. Originally left button became unresponsive then entire touchpad stopped working. Was able to use the touchpad in safe mood, but now the left button seems to be becoming unresponsive again. Troubleshoot says touchpad is up to date and working properly. Help!

A:Touchpad not working

If it's fully functional in Safe Mode then the hardware is good. Try a System Restore to a time prior to when the problem 1st started. There could be an issue with the device driver, although why it would only show up in "normal mode" I can't say. Well, it could be malware hiding as your touchpad's driver, but that's a bit "out there" at this point. Might be worth checking Hardware manager, click "show hidden devices" and report any flagged devices there might be.

Hi, I've had a Lenovo P50 thinkpad for a few days, and initially the touchpad was working absoluely fine. But today it just randomly stopped functining all together. All the touchpad/tracker buttons/detection just doesn't respond.  I have to naivate my laptop using a mouse at the moment. I've tried re-installing the Synaptics pointing device driver but it didn't change anything - the touchpad is still unresponsive. I also noticed that when I drill into the "Mouse" properties under Control Panel, the touchpad/tracker options are disabled in the GUI, and only the touchpad is ticked (tracker is not ticked) - however, since they're disbaled I can't change anything.  I also checked my BIOS to see if the touchpad got disabled there, but it is actually enabled. Any ideas on what to do? Cheers

Hello,I have an HP Stream 11. I upgraded to Windows 10 and have had no real issues until I decided to update the drivers (I was sent a message that drivers were out dated). I usually do not click on anything like this because it causes problems and it sure did. After the update, the touchpad no longer worked.I tried various fixes but nothing has worked. At one point, I went into Add or Remove Programs and deleted the Synaptics touchpad hoping that when I rebooted, the reboot would find the touchpad and driver and reinstall correctly. I was wrong and I believe that was a huge error on my part. Now I cannot get the driver to work that I downloaded. Is there any way I can get the touchpad to work again. I am using a mouse and that works fine but not efficient for a laptop. Thank youAlisonf1

There are five chipset drivers on hp.com for the Stream 11 and one is required for the touchpad to work, I think it's Intel Serial IO Driver without Connected Standby Support.  Install that and reboot and see if that fixes it and if not, install the other four.

Hi, Try the following - connect a usb Mouse where required. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In the Device Manager window, expand Mice and other pointing devices. Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, shutdown the notebook. Disconnect any peripheral, including any usb Mouse. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking the touchpad function. Regards, DP-K

Hello,

I have a Dell Vostro 1510 running Windows XP. When I start my computer I get as far as the logon screen, but of course I can't click on a username to get to the desktop because the cursor won't move using the touchpad. I've never had a mouse attached to the computer so I'm guessing that buying a USB mouse and plugging it in won't solve my problem since I can't load the software? How do I get past the logon screen without having the ability to move the cursor? Everything I've read about bypassing the logon screen or using the keyboard to manipulate the cursor assumes I have the ability to get to "Start" -> "Run" or "Start -> "Settings" -> "Control Panel", which I don't.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you buy a basic USB mouse, you won't need any software.

It's worth a try if you want to go that route.

A friend asked me to look at his Toshiba Satellite Pro Laptop as he thinks he has had some sort of infection.

The only thing i can find wrong is the Touch-pad is not working. Plugin Mouse is fine.
All that is showing in Device Manager is:

Mice and other pointing devices
- HID-compliant Mouse
- Unknown Device

I have downloaded both Synaptics & Alps Drivers from the Toshiba site, these did not seem to have any effect.

Looking about the Forums, i found out about Enabling/Disabling Touchpads...

No actual switch i can find....BUT the major problem is it will not let me into Control Panel--->Mouse ....just get an error box with no error showing

Also tried using the Command prompt with CONTROL MOUSE (or) MAIN.CPL but still no good

It could be bad, how old is the laptop? You could get it fix, they would just replace the touchpad for you. Or just get a wireless mouse that uses USB instead.

Hi, guys. I have acer aspire v nitro vn7-791g and my touchpad does not work. After I upgraded my ram, the touchpad no longer works. I might have pulled the cable, but I re-checked and everything seems to be connected, but there is no touchpad in the device manager. I tried using the fn+f7 option, but that didn't work either. Tried installing drivers, no luck. I have no idea what to do.

A:Touchpad not working

Visit Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site and see if you can download the touchpad drivers there. My guess is that Device Manager will have an unknown device showing to which you can attempt to install this driver. It may very well fix your problem. OTOH, if this driver has an .exe (or equivalent programmatic) installer, you should be able to run it and get the driver working that way. Please give it a try and let us know what happens. You can fix this.

No idea if this is hardware or software, but I'm trying this first.

I have an Inspiron 1525 laptop running Vista. My touchpad stopped working for some random reason a couple days ago except for the buttons. It might have started working again a while ago, but I just noticed 2 hours or so again that it was working, except for 2 things: I can't do that... uhhh... dunno what it's called, where you click the two buttons together and it does what clicking the mouse wheel on a normal mouse would do... and I can't scroll. The thing on my taskbar that tells me where my finger is on the touchpad has disappeared, as well.

A:Touchpad not working properly

Touchpads are usually proprietary pieces of hardware that have drivers supplied by the manufacturers. Check your device manager and settings in Control Panel (it may be under the Mouse settings) to be sure everything is all right there.

You might also go to the manufacturer's web site to check on a driver, and maybe an update to it. You could always reinstall it, anyway.

I have had my Dell Inspiron for about a week now it runs windows Over the past few days the trackpad has started to not work At first the single tap left click didn t work But the left click button worked fine and the two tap right click worked fine too I restarted it single tap works again nbsp This Touchpad working stops happened a couple more times and I decided to investigate There was no touchpad on my mouse settings only a HID-compliant mouse and a PS Compatible Mouse I don t have any mice I did a driver update for both of the above and ELAN input device showed up I did a driver update for it and it worked ok for a couple of hours and it said it is working properly However if stopped working again and I went back to the settings and whilst windows settings said the trackpad was on the ELAN tab on the mouse properties said Touchpad stops working that the Elan smart-pad Touchpad stops working was not enabled it and restarted When I went back to the same settings after the restart it was not enabled again So I enabled it Two hours later the trackpad was back to not registering single taps Enabling and disabling the ELAN trackpad appears to do nothing nbsp The next day single tap stopped working and then all the buttons and taps stopped working but scroll zoom etc still worked I restarted and it worked again Later on it had the issue that the trackpad would only select things on the start bar Once you opened something you couldn t click at all Again I restarted and it quot fixed quot it nbsp I don t know what to do next Any advice

Hi,
After installing windows 8, some of the touchpad functions - like scrolling, zooming, etc - not working. can anybody help me in this?

A:Touchpad functionality not working

did the pc originally come with windows 8 - do you know if the touchpad hardware what compatible with windows 8

goto device manager and see if you have the touchpad installed

Also goto control panel > and Mouse > do you have a touchpad listed

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Device Manager

Please Post back the results in device manager as requested below

You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the screen shot and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.
If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

how to access device manager for different windows versions
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm

Hold the Windows key and press Pause key, should open to allow device manager to be seen, see the menu on the left hand side

on a laptop you may need to use Hold the Windows key and press FN key + the pause key

If the above does not work then

For Windows 8
If you happen to be using a keyboard with Windows 8, the quickest way to open Device Manager is via its shortcut on the Power User Menu, accessible by pressing the WINDOW key and the X key together.
If on a touch screen - have a read here http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/device-manager-windows-8.htm
Once you are in device manager then navigate to:

Mice and other pointing devices click on the + > post back the devices that are listed
are there any yellow ! ? or a X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window.

For Windows 8
you can use the snipping tool > Open Snipping Tool (From the Windows 8 Start Screen, type "snip" and press enter.
>Press the Esc. key.
>go back to your Windows 8 start screen - Swipe from left or press Window Button
>Press Ctrl+PrntScr button to use Snipping Tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-use-the-windows-snipping-tool/

To upload the screen shot to the forum, open the full reply window ("Go Advanced" button) and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

My Spectre is only 1 month old and my TouchPad scroll feature isn't working. I've gone to Settings-Add. mouse options- ClickPad Settings. Two-Finger Scrolling is selected. I've unselected and saved. Reselected, saved and still not working. I've then selected the vertical and horizontal scrolling. This isn't working either. The TouchPad is working for other options, rotating, pinch zoom, etc. are, however, working. The only thing not working are either scrolling options. This just recently happened over night...

I've Googled this problem a lot and I haven't come across a solution that has worked for me yet. I think I have the most up-to-date Synaptics driver ('Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' version 14.0.3).

So I don't know what to do..

I'm on a Toshiba Tecra A8.

Hi all,
my synaptics touchpad installed in a zepto znote laptop 6014W stopped working a while ago and I've googled the problem VERY much, reinstalled drivers and all such things.

The touchpad had disappeared from the device manager and left a couple of weird devices in 'other devices' such as a root bus enumerator, mass storage controller, serial port among others.

I thought the touchpad was dead, but then I tried to just 'uninstall' 'disable' and kill every device in other I wasn't sure I needed. Then reboot and the touchpad worked again.

I write this because this site gets google hits, and maybe someone will be helped by this.

Method: uninstall all devices in 'other devices'

The weird thing about this is that these other devices had nothing to do with the touchpad when I checked hardware id and position.

I have been dealing with this issue and using a wireless mouse for a few months now, since april, to be exact.  I searched the fourums, and saw others that had a similiar issue, but it was resolved by installing a driver. Mine does not seem to be so simple, as my trackpad does not show up on my device list, only my wireless mouse. Tapping the top left corner does not get the light to turn on. I appreciate any help that can be given, and thanks in advance!

Have a Dell e6420, running Windows 7 pro.
Problem:
Mouse in Devices only has PS/2 Compatible mouse, installed automatically.
Touchpad is working, although there are no settings for it in the Mouse options. Impossible to increase sensitivity, and it's really slow. Attempted to download drivers from Dell website, tried touchpad drivers version 6, 7, and 11, none worked.
New mouse was installed, driver installed, Steelseries rival gaming mouse was recognized on the Steelseries application, but no response on screen, and error in the device manager. Indicates missing driver for Rival Gaming mouse. Auto-update doesn't produce anything but continues running, requiring shutdown through task manager.
I'm not sure where to look anymore, any advice would be appreciated.

What is the make and model# of your laptop?
Boot into Setup (Bios) go to Integrated Peripherals and look for Touch Pad, if it is Disabled, Enable it.
boot normally, and go to the computer manufacturers Support/Download drivers site and type in your make and model # or your service tag # and download the touchpad driver for your model.

You should have softwarte to configure the touchpad, make sure everything is enabled.

Also check device manager and make sure the drivers appear to functioning normal. If everything looks OK try to find a newer version of the drivers for the tocuhpad and update those.

Either the left click or right click of the touchpad are not working well. I would be grateful if my problem can be fixed. Thank you!

Hi,
I'm configuring a brand new IBM thinkpad for a friend. It came all set up and everything seems great (HUGE system!) but I can't get the touch pad to work, only the red button in the middle, along with the corresponding red buttons. The touchpad and black buttons do not work, and it seems that there should be a way to toggle back and forth. I am checking the IBM website as we speak, but I usually get my answers quicker here!
Thanks, TW

Both should. Try the BIOS, there may be a setting in there.

A:TouchPad Doubleclick not working

Hi, welcome to the forums, we have had a lot of the HP's fail here, you will need a new touchpad, hopefully it is under warranty.

The touchpad on my laptop (HP Stream 11-r050sa) on window 10 is not working, it doesn't even appear on the mouse and touchpad setting (attached below), so I can't enable the touchpad or anything from other tutorials online. The pointer works perfectly well with a plugged-in external mouse, however when I unplug it the pointer will freeze and when I use the touchscreen it will disappear completely. Please help me out! I need to do my dissertation!!!

The reason it won't work is because there is no Windows 7 support for your acer aspire 3050 laptop. You can see this at the Acer website, choose Notebook, Aspire then Aspire 3050 which will show you a page for your laptop. You can see there is no Windows 7 support as yet. Acer Support - Drivers & Download

Looks like you already found this out.

Let me look around and see if anyone has found a driver that will work. Nothing found that is made for your exact model so far.

Your model isn't on the list of supported laptops but that doesn't mean that a touchpad driver from another notebook won't work on your model. I would pick a model on the Windows 7 supported list, then find the touchpad and keyboard driver for that model and try it out.

OK so now if my touchpad is switched on the mouse cursor sometimes makes continuous erratic movements around the screen. Turning it off solves this problem. Is this a sign it's wearing out, or is there something I can do to stop this?

A:Touchpad not working properly

What state is your laptop on when the touchpad issue occurred? This happens on my fujitsu laptop when charger is plugged in. After a quick googling, found out that I just had to put the "brick" part of the charger to a good distance away from my laptop. Worked wonders! Issue usually happens with replacement chargers (due to voltage or ampere incompatibility).

Not sure though if this was your case.

I have an ES1-512 laptop and when I first got it the touchpad worked fine. I then started using a Microsft Wireless mouse and now the touchpad doesn't work. There is no driver installed for it and it doesn't appear in the device manager. If I do a search for new hardware it is not detected. I tried the fn f7 but this did not help. I tried using Acer Recovery but the touchpad is not listed so I can't load the driver. I even checked the website and again no driver for the touchpad. I have run out of ideas.

A:Touchpad not working in Windows 8.1

This may sound silly.  Because it's the first thing most would do.  But you didn't mention it. Did you check settings to make sure the touchpad is enabled?  You may have turned it off when setting up the mouse. To access settings in Win 8.1 it's Windows Key + C.  Or you can getting there by swiping right and bringing up the charms.

I seem to have a strange issue where my keboard will not work at all when I don't have the power cable plugged in.  The minute I unplug the power the touchpad and keys will not work.  I have tried to dock and undock, shutdown and restart while docked, shutdown and restart with out dock and then inserting into dock. when its unplugged the f12 lights be blinking. have updated all drivers - no go. also no customer support here in kuwai where i am right now. at least microsoft has a chat support which sorry to say a big company like hp does not have. first you spend huge amount of money to buy their hardware and then more money on support which is appalling for something which is not your fault.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200-27Z. It is a fairly old laptop running Vista but there are no plans to get rid of it yet!

A couple of weeks ago the touchpad and mouse buttons stopped working. There was no lead up to this, just suddenly stopped. This lead to a second issue with my wireless connection which I eventually had to solve by re-installing Windows (I sought help in this thread http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/1125652-wireless-password-not-accepted.html#post8906770).

The fresh install of Windows fixed my wireless issues but strangely the touch pad and buttons still don't work at all. Given that I just installed Windows with all the drivers does that mean this is a hardware fault? And is there a way to fix it or do I now have to rely on the USB mouse?

Thank you in advance for any help,

John

A:Touchpad and buttons not working

Since you re-installed Windows with fresh install of drivers for the touchpad, chances are good that it is a hardware failure.

I have a Sony Vaio and the touchpad and buttons just stopped working out of nowhere. Any idea what I can do to fix this? Maybe reinstall drivers? But from where? I didn't change anything; it happened totally randomly! Right now I have an external mouse hooked up and it's a pain! Please help.

My HP Pavilion x360 just forced an update a couple days ago and ever since then I can't move my cursor. It shows up on the screen when I first start up my laptop but disappears when I'm forced to use my touchscreen because the cursor doesn't move. This happened when I first got my laptop back in december too but the problem eventually went away on it's own. However, it only took two days, I haven't been able to use the touchpad in about a week. I love the touch screen on my laptop but I would like to be able to use my touchpad too... Someone help me out please!

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron B130, yes old I know. Long story short, let a friend borrow it who prefers a regular mouse, they installed it. Now I cant get my touchpad to work AT ALL. I have gone through Dell website and downloaded driver, nothing is working. Under my Control Panel-Mouse- under hardware all I have is "HID compliant mouse" I do have a tab that has the Synaptics symbol and the word buttons, no option to enable it anywhere. If anybody can help me it would be greatly appreciated!!

A:Synaptics Touchpad not working at all

it maybe one of the functions keys - on Toshiba and HP I know the function Key F9 or F11 with FN key
so you hold the FN key down (on toshiba a drop down menu appears at the top of the screen ) and then press f9 or f11 or any key that has a symbol that may look correct
that will toggle between enable and disable the touch pad

A:G580 - Touchpad not working

Hi nikunjm022 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

When did it started happening ? If this would be a power management settings then a system restore to go back to a previous working date may help.

Try to reset BIOS settings by turning on the pc using the Novo key (item5 page 2) and choose BIOS settings , F9 to reset F10 to save and exit .

You can also try updating the touchpad driver from the support site.

We are not eliminating probable affectation of a grounded battery , but would it also happen with an inserted battery while plugged with the adapter?

Update us how things go.

Regards

Hello I bought Aspire S7 last two weeks and my touchpad are not working. I can't touch my screen and anything. I an only move with mouse. What should i do? I tried Fn and T, Fn+Alt + T. But nothing happened. Please help.

A:Aspire S7 touchpad is not working. Tried Fn ad T. ...

Hello,        Based on what you have said, it could be a couple of things, driver may need updateing, or the touch sensers may not be working correctly. What you will need to do is open the Event Viewer. If you do not know how to open the Event Viewer, go to your search box and type in Event Viewer, and the OS will take you their. There you will be abel to see whats going on, because it will be loged there. The secound thing is to open your Device Manager, this is were all of the Drivers will be.        If need futher help please PM me and I will get back to you. Hope this information will a help to you, and if it is please hit that solve button for me thank you.
