I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I bought an Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG on Amazon about 2 months ago and it has been working great up until yesterday when the thing just randomly started dying even though it was charged. After it dies and I try to turn it on again it usually goes dead again within 10-20 minutes without warning. Im not sure what to do and really need to get this fixed soon because I use this laptop for college.

I keep getting sudden shutdowns on my new Acer Aspire G notebook I literally bought this model month ago although I was told it was a showroom model for some time Usually what happens is that I'm browsing internet folders not using any high-demanding programs and after sometime the laptop just shuts off completely Power seems to fail without any crash shutdown whatsoever The odd thing is that I can play high-graphic games or other high cpu-demanding games programs for hours and no crashes shutdowns These shutdowns happen AFTER playing these 5750G Acer Shutdowns Aspire games or just randomly Also yesterday I was playing music for and hour just music everything else on standby But when I opened Firefox within seconds I get a powerfail I've been looking around the internet for solutions but at this point I'm getting pretty hopeless - All my drivers are up to date - Installed new Windows Ultimate x no change - No malware virus - Bios updated - Not heat-related as I'm only getting max I'm relunctant to send it back to the shop as unsure whether I downloaded something wrong myself Only programs I got so far are games Skyrim Fallout amp New Vegas Risen Furthermore I'm using Gamebooster sometimes Gives me more time before a powerfail

I've got a fairly new Acer Aspire V15 (I think I've had it a month). It is no longer charging at all. A few days ago it seemed the charger connection may have been loose - it was charging intermittently - I could wiggle it and find a spot where it would charge. Today it seems that there is no longer a connection when I plug in the charger. I read somewhere to take out the battery to see if the laptop would run solely on the charger, but it doesn't look like the battery can be taken out. Anyone have any recommendations for me?  Thanks!

Try running on battery till Windows automatically shuts off laptop at the critical level(about 5%). Then re-connect charger. Then power up again. Report back Jack E/NJ

hey guys, i am really desperate right now and i need some quick help.

a few days ago i ordered a laptop which arrived on friday and then i started to set it up with windows 10 and some software.

i immediately realized that the laptop is not charging.

in the windows taskbar, when i click on the battery logo, it says "0%, not charging"

i know that there is some threshold that the laptop only starts to charge when it's below a set value, normalle ~50%.

but the laptop is not charging at all, it's stuck at 0% and when i plug out the charging cable it turns off.

i also checked the battery with a program to see if it's broken, but the wear value is only at 2%, so that should be fine.

any help is appreciated!

A:Acer Aspire E3-112-C4LF not charging

First off seeing as it's a new laptop, can you not simply return it and get a replacement?

Second, as for the battery its either a bad battery or bad charger.

My laptop is barley two years old, I got it in Fall 2014, and just today when I plugged it in it would not charge. I took it to Best Buy and after 40 mins of looking at it in the back while I wait the guy comes back out and says I should just get a new laptop...this is ridiculous there has to be a way to fix it that doesn't involve spending anther $300. Up until today I have tried taking the best possible care of my laptop, I only plug it in when it needs to be charged so I don't short out the battery and I keep it in a case so the port won't get damaged. I never had any big issues until today...

Then joined and can't find a thread to post to as I'm very computer illiterate and have no clue as to what category I would fit in. I know I will be offending someone by just mentioning this but if anyone can help point me in the right direction, I'd truly be appreciative

A:Aspire 5733Z random shutdowns after battery replac...

Thanks to ElizabethS for getting me here!!! I've had my Aspire 5733Z since 9/5/11 and haven't had any issues until about a month ago, when I received an error message that the battery needed to be replaced. I went to Amazon and ordered the same make and model battery to replace it thinking easy-peasy right? Well I couldn't have been more wrong   The battery light on my laptop keeps flashing and telling me its not charging even though its plugged in and the computer keeps shutting down randomly whether I'm online or not.  Since I've had her, I've tried to keep the wire vent thing on the bottom of the computer free of lint and dust and I've even had her on a wooden pot holder that raises her enough to keep the air circulating so she doesn't get hot. She gets her updates on a regular basis and I've defraged her just recently. My son ran a HDD diagnostic and restored her to the factory default to no avail. Today, after the 20th time of shutting down and restarting, I noticed a new screen had popped up from the normal "your computer didn't shut down properly would you like to open windows normally" screen only after I pressed the enter key  It told me it was "repairing the start-up process" which took a little over 3 hours before it started. Now my questions are:  Is this the end of the old gal? Is there anything that can be done? Can she be fixed? I really hope someone might have another suggestion to try.  I don't want to give up on her just yet and I just can't imagine a computer, well a laptop's life is only 5 years  Thanks for reading

Hello......
My Nephews laptops battery ran low and required charging. When the charger is plugged into the laptop the orange 'charging' light illuminates for approximately 6 seconds then, goes out for a further 6. This repeats continuously whilst the battery remains flat and the machine will not power up.
I have checked the output from the charger which is constant although I have no means, at present , of ascertaining the actual output values.
If there is anyone with any hints or clues I should be most grateful' Thanks.

A:Acer Aspire 5552 charging/battery issue

So the laptop will not turn on at all? Does it act the same if you remove the battery? If not the the adapter may be faulty, the DC jack in the laptop may have broken, or there's a motherboard failure in the laptop.

Testing with a known good and compatible power adapter would be the next step.

How old is the laptop, is it still under warranty?

Good Day! For 2 days now, I'm having a problem when it comes to charging my laptop. I'm not sure if the problem is the battery or the ac adaptor, itself. But I think, it's the ac adaptor. Because I have to disconnect and connect again the socket(you can take it off) in my ac adaptor for a couple of times before it start charging continously. I get the same problem everytime I charged my laptop and there is an orange blinking happening when you know it's not yet charging. So I might be correct that the problem is my ac adaptor? How much do you think is the cost of a new ac adaptor?  Thanks!

I just bought a new battery for my Acer aspire 5570 from ebay. Its only charges for 20 minutes and windows power management detects it as a Unknown battery, and my Acer power management software says the battery is at 0% and does not go into sleep mode anymore.

Is this a battery problem or a software problem ... my old acer battery is at 50% capacity in about a year now and i really hope this problem is solvable or ill be permanently tethered to a outlet ....

HALP PLEASE

The Laptop was running smoothly, and fast for about 2-3 months then suddenly started to get the random freezing on the Internet and slow running in things like Windows Media, Microsoft Word, Chess Titans and other Windows programs.

I've recently tried to clear the registry of any errors, which seemed to work for about and hour but the next day returned to former freezing self.

System Information:
Manufacture- Acer

Model- Aspire 5532

Processor- AMD athlon(tm)
Processor TF-20 1.60
GHZ

Installed memory (RAM) 3.00GB (2.75GB (usable)

Sytem type: 64-bit OS
I'm really considering restoring the Computer back to default factory settings, but that would mean It deletes everything, and I'm not sure if Microsoft Office was pre-installed or Installed by my relative, does anyone know a way to get rid of this freezing, and if I do have to restore to factory default setting, could you give me Information of If i might have to get Microsoft Office back by buying or if it would still be there as I reset the the whole laptop.

Its also worth noting that i usually have to reset the laptop a lot due to the annoyance of it continually freezing, I find that when I reset it, and click on the user and boots, every thing seems fast, Internet runs smoothly, windows media player opens up instantly but after about 20-30 minutes, everything is back to being slow to open up and freezes continuously.

Go into event viewer and look for critical errors relating to the problem

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Let us know if you need help with any of this.

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!
Also, with the debut of Win10, we are extremely busy with it.

Do your still need help with this problem?
I will be notified if you reply to this topic and will respond within 48 hours.

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions Please use Option 1 as it provides Event Viewer logs.

A:Random FPS drops on Acer Aspire E5-571 when plugge...

The current bios is 1.31 and there are 5 bios upgrades between you and that. That's a lot of change.  I would definately update the bios and if you don't have the latest grafics bios, that too..I'm sure your  power settings for plugged in are the same as battery.Go back to Processor power management and set both battery and power to 99%.

Identical and caused by your NETw5s32.sys (network driver) I would re-install with the newest.

Hello everyone! So my problem started about two to three weeks ago when my computer started to show a BSOD at random times. I mean I cannot detect some kind of pattern, e.g. when I open a program etc, it just happens sometimes even when it is just on standby without running anything! I've tried a bunch of stuff: I used a system restore point. memory test, updates... I also recently read that cisco vpn ( which I have) might be causing confilcts with windows 7 so I followed instructions and uninstalled it and used the appropriate updates which would have fixed any issues. But once again today, BSOD...

I have a 3 month old acer aspire v3 laptop, could you please help me out??

Recommendations:Crashes primarily point to a DirectX/graphics card related problem. DirectX comes installed with Windows, so this may indicate Windows corruption. It may also be that you have corrupted drivers or a graphics card hardware problem.
If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run a system file check to check Windows for corruption: Click Start Menu
Click All Programs
Click Accessories
Right click Command Prompt
Click Run as administrator
Type
Code:
sfc /scannow
and press Enter
Once it is complete, make note of the message. If it says Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations., restart your computer and post back
If the message does not say Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations., restart your computer and do steps 1-6 again.
You may need to do steps 1-6 up to three times with a restart in between each run to resolve all corrupted files.
If you still have corrupted files after a fourth run, post back here with the following:Click Start Menu
Click Computer
Open your C: drive
Open Windows
Open Logs
Open CBS
Copy and paste CBS.log or CBS (it may not have the log extension) to a location you will remember.
Compress (zip) the CBS file and attach the .zip file to your next post.

Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.
Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
Click Start Menu
Click Control Panel
Click Uninstall a program
For NVIDIA:Uninstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver (this should uninstall all NVIDIA software and drivers)
Restart your computer
Make sure NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver, NVIDIA 3D Vision Video Player, NVIDIA HD Audio Driver, and NVIDIA PhysX System Software are not still listed under Uninstall a program through Control Panel
If any remain of the above, uninstall one at a time
If asked to restart after uninstalling any of the above, do so, and continue uninstalling any remaining NVIDIA items until all are removed

Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
Install the driver you selected for the display cards once Windows starts

Remember to try multiple versions of the graphics drivers, download them fresh, and install the freshly downloaded drivers.

Outdated and Problematic Drivers:You should update/replace/remove the following drivers. Any drivers that are known to cause BSODs, please remove the software or remove the drivers and then remove the device; steps to do so are given after the list of outdated drivers. If you have ASACPI.sys installed, make sure it is updated and not pre-2009; pre-2009 versions are known to cause BSODs:

A:Unexpected system shutdowns now turned into not even going past the black windows xp

I Have the same problem, except that my computer manually restarts after about two seconds of being in the black Windows XP screen, right before login. It will not even start up in safe mode.

The problem is, I do not have a startup or installation disk.

I could easily back up everything I have onto my fat32 volume, but I cannot reinstall Windows. Is that my only option?

BTW, Linux boots up fine, so it's not a hardware problem, unless it's the harddrive that Windows was on, but a restart due to a harddrive failure is quite random...

My computer started messing up when I was just playing a game. Then a BSOD flashed on for a millisecond, and my computer restarted.

Things I've tried:
Powering down for 10 seconds, reboot
Starting windows with 'last good config'
Starting normally
Starting with Safe and Net
Sarting just in safe mode, letting all processes go
Starting in safe mode, cancelling a driver loadup when it asked me (I can't remember which that was, but it made absolutely no difference either way, so...)

Am I going to have to re-buy Windows?

Hi Mills,1. Get to Device Manager(Hold Windows Key & then tap letter "X")2. Under device manager check if you find any other Devices or unknown devices,. if yes you may need another computer to download the files from acersupport.com3. If Not expand network adapters, check if you see the Wireless adapter, Right click uninstall & restart the unit.4. If the Device is not detected underOthers / Unknown devices / network adapter, please contact Acer as it is a suspected Hardware Failure.

A:can anyone help, Acer aspire m1610 or acer aspire t180

First, each model has multiple hardware specifications. So I have no way of knowing the hardware configurations of either unit that you have.

Second, upgrades are limited on OEM PC's. Your only options will be RAM and the video card. And in the case of the video card, the power supply may not be able to handle a decent card.

Hi, I'm having trouble with my laptop charging. It charges fine when it's turned off or in hibernation mode, but as soon as it's turned back on the indicator light goes off and it stops getting ac power. Once it's turned off again it starts to use ac power.

At first I thought the plug was loose in the back as it has had to fixed before but it seems to be perfectly fine when it's off. Could there be any software issues causing this? I checked the power settings and everything and didn't see anything that might be causing it.

It's running on windows xp home, that I reinstalled a few months ago. It was running fine until a couple weeks ago. Help?

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5742, IntelCore i3-380M
I am attaching a few pictures of what comes on the screen when I turn it on.
Even in safe mode it does not let me log in, it attempts repairs, it fails and then goes to the black screen with the white cursor.
If I try to start windows normally it loads the logo and then goes to the black screen.
Yesterday, in an attempt to do repairs it was replacing invalid security drivers or something like that and it was taking ages so I had to turn it off.
For the last week it took very long to start up, failing to configure windows but it would eventually let me log in.
Since yesterday I am only getting the black screen. it is windows 7 by the way.

i need a very quick reply please

Quick reply!!! Save your data and restore back to factory. Always have a back up image of your OS on a external drive for next time you have this problem!!

Hi there, my computer is a Acer touchscreen all in one desktop. It was just recently bought last December so less then a year old. Just recently, I would say in the last few weeks, it has started having the issue of being stuck on shutdown to where to shut it down I have to force the shutdown. Also sometimes on startup when I go to login it sticks on the login and I have to reset the computer until it works.

What is going on? Also, the wireless adapter seems to have issues connecting to our internet when everything else is fine in the house and sometimes both google chrome and internet explorer freezes up....All of these issues seemed to start happening in the last few weeks. Thanks in advance for any help!

I restarted my computer like normal and for whatever reason the computer is now stuck at the Acer boot screen. I try to press DEL to enter Setup and I even tried pressing F12 to go into the Boot Setup, but for whatever reason the computer does not respond to anything.

To shut it off I have to hold down the power button and eventually it shuts off.

Stuff to know:
- I have a wireless mouse and keyboard being used on that desktop.. Should I perhaps try to plug in a corded mouse and keyboard?
- I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Thanks

Hi everyone I'm at my wits end! I cannot get my webcam to work. I have tried numerous options posted in different forums and on websites but nothing seems to work. Even when I went to the Acer update driver search site. When I added my model number I got about a dozen driver options but as soon as I put in my OS Windows 7 (64 Bit) it came back with no drivers. I've noticed in a number of forums that peoples webcams where working fine in Windows XP but when they updated to Windows 7 they lose the ability for their computers to find their webcams. Is this an inherent problem with Windows 7 and is there anyway to fix it short of buying an external webcam. Surly there must be a way to get it to work !!!
Regards Brett.

My system is roughly months old I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to home premium There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to Acer M3203 Windows software Acer's upgrade and Aspire 7 deep hibernation The only way to wake it was to unplug Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software the power from the tower I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers to finally reinstalling everything No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer I just got it back from Acer's repair depot They had to replace the motherboard hard drive and fans on the system They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold the hibernation thing started again It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory Now it seems stable running Vista I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell Is it me or is Acer systems flakey Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows without having to format every week I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly Sometimes it won't even turn on Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows

A:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

my aspire E-15 will not boot up properly.  It starts, then screen goes black.  If I pull the power out, screen comes back on, but goes dark if I plug power back in.  I see the screen brightness is reversed when I look at power options.I have to turn on/off button off, then immedialtely turn it back on.  Then the boot is very, very slow.Is Acer ever going to fix this?

try a battery reset. Remove the power. Turn laptop oner and find the tiny hole in the bottom. Insert a paper clip and gently push until you feel a click, hold for 5 seconds, let it sit for 5 minutes. Before you plug it in, check your power supply with a multi meter or have it checked. http://www.atbatt.com/laptop-chargers/how-to-test-laptop-adapterSee if the laptop boots. No? To start off, this laptop has been horrible since the day I got it. I can't even believe how slow it is; it lags doing even the simplest tasks. That aside; I was prompted to update an AMD Catalyst Radeon (something like that) software, so I did. The screen went black and nothing happened for almost 10 hours.I eventually decided to turn off the power. It's just stuck at that screen. What do I do? How do I fix this? I need this computer for school.

Try booting to Memtest86 you can burn a CD and I think it can also be run from a USB bootable flash drive. This will test your memory for problems and also let you know that the hardware in general will run (except the hard drive which is ignored at this stage. If the memory is good, then boot to your hard drive mfg's utility or Seatools from Seagate (DOS version) the same as Memtest but it tests your hard drive to see if it is just the drive that you cannot install on.If the memory and hard drive tests OK then you may just need to delete all current partitions on the hard drive before trying to install. If the memory does not test good, try cleaning the contacts on the memory with a soft pencil eraser and snapping them in and out 5 or 6 times to also burnish the slot's contacts. Then try memtest again on one stick at a time in case one stick is bad, swap and try again. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

In cases like this, first, try using another power outlet, then if that doesn't charge it, you may need to order a new power adapter, as it may have failed.

Hi, I have been having a quite critical issue with my laptop recetly. Ocassionaly I accidently run my laptop flat as everyone does but when I plug the power cable in the LED indicator does not switch on to say the battery is charging. The laptop battery also does not charge as I left it on for a few hours plugged in and it still did not charge. When the laptop is powered up and running connecting the power lead works as it should. I can ocassionally get the computer to charge by removing the battery for a long period of time (around 30 minutes) and then replacing it. This sometimes works and sometimes does. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Thanks in advanced.

A:Aspire E1-571 Plugged in not charging

If what you're saying is the problem is that the charger cannot charge the battery, but the battery itself can hold electricity, correct? This means you need to replace your charger with a new one. Please correct me if I am wrong. I don't bite. :3

A:Random shutdowns on XP, Help Please!!!

This wont solve your problem, but may help you figure out why its restarting.
Start in safemode (or regular mode if you can).
Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced Tab > Start Up and Recover settings > System Failure - uncheck Automatic Restart.

Essentially this will allow you to see the BSOD instead of restarting. Hopefully, from the Blue Screen, you can see an error with a code and/or explanation for the crash.

My PC randomly keeps shutting down. It will just power off without warning then start booting up again straight away. Seems to happen after about 5 mins. Any ideas what I can try to see what the problem is?

My Neighbor has an emachine model t-1840. He has lately been experiencing random shutdowns. The computer might run for hours or shutdown during startup. When the computer shuts down he has to kill power going to the machine since the on/off button won't even work. When you reboot it comes up as if nothing happened. He has ran every virus checker he can find on it and it shows clean. Any advice would be of great help

A:Random Shutdowns

Sounds like a PSU or overheating problem. (my guess is PSU) Emachines do this a lot because the components are so cheap - especially their PSUs.

My computer has been shutting down randomly. Does anyone know a way to stop this?

A:Random shutdowns

Might be many different causes.
Have you installed a software or hardware recently before you experienced the random shutdowns ?

Hi,
i experience random shutdowns mostly when surfing the internet while watching videos, or when i am downloading files via torrents. After the first shutdown occurs, the PC den shuts down in a few minutes even when not doing anything.... However this doesn't happen if the pc is in idle mode or while i am playing games before the first shutdown... In event viewer i get an error of event id 6008 which doesn't specify anything in general.
my system specs r as follows -

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
System Manufacturer: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD
System Model: MS-7501
Memory : 2GB single channel
HDD : 320 GB
PSU : 450 watts
OS : windows 7 sp1 32 bit

formatting the PC didnt solve the problem
checked the temperature of the whole RIG. that was normal.

Regards,
Rodent

A:Random shutdowns.....

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
When asked, save the display information in English.
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Create a new folder by right clicking in a blank area within the folder Errors.evtx is saved in. You could also click New Folder at the top of the directory under the directory path box.
Name the new folder Errors.
Place Errors.evtx and the LocaleMetaData folder into the new Errors folder.
Right click the Errors folder -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file here.
First thing to do in these situations is check hardware:If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Run Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Hello,

I've got a problem with my computer... it's a laptop, a Latitude D600, Windows XP, I believe. Randomly, without any warning whatsoever, it shuts down by itself. Problem is, it's really difficult to turn it back on!

I keep pressing the on button, and the computer momentarily turns back on, but immediately dies. Only after at least 15 times does it FINALLY turn back on.

Does anyone know what might be the cause of this problem? Thanks!

how many watts is your current power supply

i would upgrade to at least 300 or 400 if possible, also if it is not a name brand it simply may be burned out, as these generic products tend to do

Hello FaceingReformat and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.A system shutting down unexpectedly usually points to a hardware issue. Possible causes can be bad memory, heat buildup on the processor etc. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis cannot analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For non-malware related hardware issues I would suggest posting to the Hardware forumThe techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to hardware issues. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. When posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it.Cheers.OT

Okay so Shutdowns Random My husband built me a computer for Christmas last year but gave it to me just after Thanksgiving Random Shutdowns I m a web developer and I also like Random Shutdowns to play Final Fantasy XIV so those were the main goals for the computer It worked great until I tried to update my graphics drivers a month or so ago at which point FFXIV started blue screening on startup unless I reinstalled the graphics drivers every reboot I m sure this is an issue with FFXIV s compatibility so I m not overly worried about it though if there s a fix that would be nice The problem I m worried about is that starting or so weeks ago the computer started randomly turning off when it s left alone for an hour or more I highly doubt it s an overheating or power supply issue but I don t have evidence to confirm this The components are listed below in the image it does run Windows and my husband updated the BIOS last week This probably wouldn t be a problem except that I have to reinstall the graphics drivers every restart Two days ago it started requiring me to do a system restore each time the computer shut itself off Until then it would be fine to just reinstall the drivers and run FFXIV but for the last couple days it still crashes even after that unless I restore and then reinstall Any ideas nbsp

I'm having a major problem with my computer--one of two things is always happening:
(1) Every few minutes that I'm online (very often!!!!), IE (6.0 SP1) randomly closes, with the error message being:
AppName: iexplore.ex
AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106
ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.11006
Offset: 000245cc

(2) Several times a day, on some days, the computer randomly restarts. When it comes back, it is extremely slow until it is manually restarted, at which point the process starts over, with IE closing often, then the computer eventually restarts.

I'm running a Celeron 1.7 with 512MB Mushkin Enhanced PC2700 DDR Ram, and Windows XP Home SP1.

Any help in correcting this is greatly appreciated!
Jeff

Seems like we have a pesky virus here. Let's get rid of it now.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ijrbbpd] C:\WINDOWS\ptcore.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NvCplScan] nvsc32.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\ptcore.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Before I get to my problem I'd just like to say hi to everyone here since this is my first time posting Now to my problem recently my computer has been shutting down randomly for no known reason to my knowledge Most of the time I get a blue screen with some text on it that I cannot understand It gives me a message on the top saying quot Bad Pool Caller quot and then a stop code on the bottom I believe it also says that there might be a problem with a driver in my computer but I'm not certain as to its exact details This problem started when I installed this one game on my computer called Gunz The Duel I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not but I never got this problem before I installed the game So far I've uninstalled the game as well as ran a few programs on my computer such as Adware and Spyblaster to get rid of any conspicuous files in my computer Despite this I still get the blue screen with the quot Bad Pool Caller quot message Shutdowns Random from time to time Also just to let you know I've ran a Memtest program to test Random Shutdowns out my RAM and it did not pick up any errors As a result of these random shutdowns I've noticed that my computer has created some mini dump files which I've read can be helpful in locating the source of the problem Only thing is I don't know how to read these files or what to do with them I'm open to any suggestions and I'm willing to give out my computer Random Shutdowns specs and other relevant details concerning the problem Also just to ask what would be the consequence of Random Shutdowns not assessing this problem and just letting be I mean so far I've been able to run my computer despite getting these random shutdowns If I let it be will my computer slowly deteriorate or will I be fine Anyways thanks to all those who reply and hopefully I can obtain some advice from everyone

Hey guys, I have been having problems with my computer randomly shutting down. I can be doing the most simple of things, such as browsing the internet (which does not take much CPU power) and my PC will just shut off. What happens is the computer's power keeps going and I can open/close CD drives & such, but the monitor goes black. I thought it was a monitor problem, but my PC shut down a few times during games and whatever sound clip was playing would start looping, so it must be a problem with the PC itself. Any help/suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I built my PC myself. Here are specs if they help at all.

- AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU
- 1gb PC3200 Ram (Mushkin)
- ATI Radeon 9800pro 128mb
- Seagate 200gb Barracuda HD
- 400 watt PSU

what power supply did you put in,your specs are not of much use without the p/s details

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.

Well if this is happening on a level where the bios doesnt even start, you may have either a corrupted bios or bad hardware. This is probably not software related at this point

Hi, I wounder if you could help me please, my machine keeps shutting downwhenever it likes! When it restarts it says its a driver fault, I have uninstalled and re installed all my drivers with updated driver but still keeps doing it!

If i post my minidumps here could you please point me in the right direction as to the cause.

Thank you

Ceri Hopkins

A:Random shutdowns

One minidump was unusable becasue it reported that it could not find the driver list.

The other error is 0x8E and these are almost always caused by hardware but sometimes by faulty drivers.

The driver cited as causing your issue is the Razer Habu USB Optical Mouse Driver dadder.sys. Update your drivers.

For some reason after I added my new ASUS Monitor through HDMI, my machine keeps shutting down on its own without notice. It only seems to happen when playing a game.

I tried running overclocks for the GPU's and it would happen within 5min, but without any modification to the GPU or CPU I can get maybe 25-50min of gameplay before the whole system Blanks out.

Can Anyone help me with any thoughts or ideas?

System Specs:

AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor 3.2 GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6770 1GHz x2
Gskill RAM 12Gb
ASUS VH236H Monitor
(I can get the rest later if necessary)
