What M.2 SSD is recommended for ATC-710-UR61?

Q: What M.2 SSD is recommended for ATC-710-UR61?

Just got a ATC-710-UR61 Desktop. It has an M.2 slot for an internal SSD. Anyone have experience/recommendations of those that install and work without any grief? Thanks.

Preferred Solution: What M.2 SSD is recommended for ATC-710-UR61?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently had to uninstall Microsoft Office so that I could install Office Professional Plus 2016.  Since then, my Device Manager is showing problems with my Sound Card.   When I uninstall the device, it says that it cannot find one.   Also, when I try to install one for Realtek High Definition Audio, it fails. What should I do??

I am considering purchasing a desktop computer from amazon -- model: Acer Aspire ATC-780-UR61.  The general specs look good for a basic home/office computer but I am reluctant to buy because the computer doesn't seem to have any existence outside of Amazon. It's not offered for purchase anywhere else. There are no reviews by truly independent reviewers. The official Acer site offers very little information beyond add copy. There doesn't even seem to be an owners' manual beyond a general Aspire manual!  So, is this some sort of special model?  Any reason I might want to avoit it? Any opinions or insights appreciated.  Thanks much.

In the past I had no problem recommending AVG Free however 9.0 recommended AVG not I cannot recommend the version because of apparant problems A couple of days ago I downloaded AVG Free uninstalled v installed v and went thru the settings most were left as default This AM while on the internet the AVG scan started that is when the problems started I attempted to go from Yahoo home page to Yahoo mail I was unable to redirect and AVG 9.0 not recommended IE showed Not Responding but yet system tray internet connection showed as still being connected I of course did the diagnose internet connection it would not return AVG 9.0 not recommended a result so I ended both it and IE I then attempted to open the user interface from the system tray unable to do so Attempted to stop process but it was not evan showing up in Applications About the only thing I could do was restart the computer and do the uninstall upon load up Did not reinstall v because daughters computer while this was going on was asking for a restart from AVG automatically downloading and installing v It would appear for whatever reason while performing the scan it takes control of the computer instead of in the past allowing you to set priority unless there is a setting that needs to be changed

A:AVG 9.0 not recommended

I also used to be able to recommend AVG. I used it for about 3 years or so, and it worked fine, but slowly got worse and worse. Sure, it kept my comp clean, but every version got slower and slower. Up to 8.0 was ok, but it was getting so full of crap that it was just slowing me down if anything.

I never actually had it not "let me" do anything, but the way it was going, it's not surprising.
I hate programs that take over and slow things down when there's no reason for it. Also, with AVG, there were about 6 processes running constantly and when it started to get more and more intrusive/bloated, I had to change.

MSE is great for what I need it for, since I don't do a whole lot of "odd things". I haven't had a virus in a long time, so i'm still not sure how good MSE or AVG are at catching things.

If I wanted my comp slowed down for no reason, i'd use Norton or McAffee. Apparently AVG is getting to be that way now too. Too bad, because it used to be pretty unnoticeable while it was running.

You guys have any recommendation for Windows 7 Internet Explorer 8?
Like download manager or security issued add-on. Anything you use and you found it useful.

A:Recommended IE8 add-ons?

IE7Pro has morphed from being an actual stand alone browser to being sort of an uber browser plugin that does all kinds of stuff. Too many features to list here.

I was using it on IE8 on 7100 and it worked well. Still on my list to reinstall on my RTM.

Hi

My previous PSU (ATX-400-JSP - 400W EZCool) has just decided to stop working after i smelt smoke coming from it! ive researched this PSU online and just realised it only costs 12! ive had the pc for 2 years and all has been fine until now.

(Please check my profile for my specs.)

Which PSU would you recommend for my PC? I wish to spend about 30-40.

Thanks.

Since it appears you will be shopping in the UK or AU, perhaps you could list 12 that are available to you and let TechSpot users guess and which would be the best.
Also give us your computer brand, model, and configuration.

After searching for infomation on this malware, I have come to believe it is called Fakealert.T.

A message pops up every 3 minutes saying:

"Your computer is infected!

Windows has detected spyware infection. It is recommended to use special antispyware tools to pervent (yes, it says pervent) data loss. Windows will now download and install the most
up-to-date antispyware for you.

Click here to protect your computer from spyware!"

I know it's NOT from windows and I sure don't want to click on it. Spybot S&D does not remvoe it, and i cant find any programs that will. Does anybody know how to get rid of this?

Anyhelp greatly appreciated!

Also would it be worth while to get a sata hdd ? this win7 works great after vista refused too run on my current system

A:Recommended Ram

Yes invest in another 2GB of ram and make it a total of 4. As for the HD, Sata is really not all that much faster than IDE but if you can go for the new technology in hard drives now called SSD's (Solid State Drive). Immensely faster than any SATA hard drive today!

Hey guys. (Im not sure if i posted in the right place)

I had a 750w Winpower PSU in my pc for about 3 years. Then the other night my machine went off then let our a huge bang/spark and i got a smell of burning from my PSU. After looking online about winpower PSU's they are not recommended by most people. I'm looking for a new PSU but im not sure what i should get. Just wondering if anyone on here could help me find a decent PSU. I only have a ?50 budget but theres so many to choose from.

My specs are below.

Thanks guys any help would be much appreciated

A:Recommended PSU - Please Help

Newegg.com - OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ700MXSP 700W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply compatible with core i7

I'm not sure where you are?
Pricing you say 50 Pounds but location is showing you are in the Western Hemisphere.

As far as brand Corsair and OCZ are good. The one I posted above is on sale there. There are many others.
I'm using a Cooler Master. They are pricey. I got it with a combo so it was about half price or I was set to get a Corsair.
Newegg is a good place to check out what is available and pricing even if you have to order from somewhere else because of location.

This will work with your set up as far as wattage.

Hi I use an Ironkey USB drive You are meant to lock them before removing or restarting the PC they are attached to Unfortunately windows crashed while the drive was unlocked and now every time I access the drive windows pops up a dialogue box telling me there might be a problem with the drive there isn't and that I should either quot Scan and fix quot or quot Continue without scanning quot If I choose the Scan and fix option it doesn't work Because of the way these drives are built there doesn't seem to be a way to complete a scan - I run into dismount issues And Windows still claims a drive fix USB Scan (recommended) and error the next time I use the USB If I continue without scanning then Windows eternally pops up the same annoying reminder every USB Scan and fix (recommended) single time I use the drive The only way I know of to prevent these pop-ups is to reinstall windows Which seems like overkill Windows must store a flag against the drive somewhere the registry maybe Does anybody know where this information is held and how to edit it If I use a different unflagged USB the pop-up does not appear or if I use the flagged drive in another machine it doesn't appear So windows has created some quot blacklist quot somewhere A less radical approach is I might try rolling windows back to a safe point but this still seems like a lot of work I found an article describing what reg entries to delete wiki Under HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control DeviceClasses f -b bf- d - f - a c efb b I found a lot of entries that contained drive names so it was easy to locate and delete the relevant entries The problem persisted after so I looked under HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Enum USB I found a lot of entries but couldn't determine which related to my USB drive so was afraid to delete anything I found some relevant named entries under HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Enum USBSTOR But even as administrator was unable to delete any of them The most promising is HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control UsbFlags But again there is no way to determine what keys are valid Can I safely delete all of these keys I tried to restore Windows to an earlier state which did not resolve the problem and corrupted my AV software

XP-AntiSpy 2000/xp/Vista/7

Quote:
The xp-AntiSpy is a little utility that lets you disable some built-in update and authentication 'features' in WindowsXP.

Homepage - Official Homepage of the xp-AntiSpy

I had this software when I was using XP but now that I'm using 7 I'm not sure if using it is recommended. Although it says 7 compatible I still don't trust them until I hear some real opinions or facts. So what do you people think?

A:XP-AntiSpy, recommended?

I think that using Microsoft Security Essentials with

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes

and at least the Windows Firewall

used with common sense

is all the protection that will ever be needed. Its free and has a small footprint.

Hello folks, my Best Beloved is migrating to W7 from XP and needs to convert his Outlook Express .dbx files to .pst so he can use Outlook ( he could just stick with Live Mail, but we prefer Outlook desktop client). We have looked for a decent converter utility and have found a couple, and he is willing to pay a sensible amount, even though he is only likely to use it once, but we would like your opinion on which is the best to go for. Thanks in advance.

A:recommended .dbx to .pst converter

I think that the best and simplest method would be to install Windows Live Mail in XP, import Outlook Express mail messages to Live Mail, then export messages from Live Mail and import them to Outlook.

Step 1: How do I transfer my contacts and emails from Outlook Express to Live Mail- Microsoft Community

Step 2: Import email messages from Windows Live Mail - Outlook

Hello and Welcome to Bleeping Computer!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster. NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of hartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer. NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.Security CheckDownload Security Check by screen317 from here.Save it to your Desktop.Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.Run Combofix:You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal. You can download Combofix from one of these links.Link 1Link 2Link 3 1. Hello!

I've also managed to infect my computer with the "Recommended for You" pop up malware.

Symptoms: Pop ups in the lower right corner of various browsers (Firefox, Chrome) directing me to various suspicious sites. Redirects to suspicious sites from search results.

Steps already taken: I've ran Malwarebytes, and removed the detected problems, but that didn't do much good.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I currently have a Netgear router, its been fine for about 2 years untill it wont transmit signals to my laptops.

A quick google search of the model number, WPN824 V3 shows that this is a common problem after a while.

I'd want to get another one, and FAST.

I do NOT want a LINKSYS.. there total sh*t from past experience.

I have upgraded firmware on this one too. Seems like its reached the end of its day.

Thanks

Hello there.

Cisco Valet M10 router would be a nice choice!

Newegg.com - Cisco Valet M10 802.11b/g/n Wireless HotSpot Router up to 300Mbps/ Easy setup by USB dongle inside

Cisco is one of my favorites, and that particular model has an "Easy Setup Dongle" for easy installation and stuff..

Really nice

Hi all, i appreciate any help you guys (and gals) can give me. I recently purchased a new laptop, and since I'm not super computer saavy, I was wondering if anyone can suggest what I need in terms of security. Is there one commercial product I can buy that will cover me? Or (and perhaps more easily) is there a list of free products that someone can suggest I download that should keep me safe?

I generally just do some basic web-surfing, but I do need to bank online, and I do play poker online a fair amount, but only on one site. I bought an HP Pavilion, here are the basics: Intel Core Duo Processor, 80GB Hard Drive, 1GB RAM. Hope that helps (I'm hoping not to bog down my machine if possible with all the security software). Again, any help is much appreciated. Thanks!!!

I have been thinking about getting a VPN service for many reasons, and the only thing stopping me is deciding which service to choose. I want all my traffic encrypted for my privacy at home, and I want to be able to safely use the unencrypted internet at my university on my laptop and iphone without worrying about any of my packets being sniffed out.

I'd like to subscribe to a service at a reasonable price, over using a free, unreliable service. I've been using Hamachi for years for remote access, but I it's not going to cover everything else I need to do.

Also, are VPNs reliable when playing online games? Do they add a ton of latency?
Thank you for your time.

A:Recommended VPN service?

What is it you are trying to do, exactly? Are you trying to access a home computer while away from home? If so, I'm not sure where gaming comes in. Hamachi is a free VPN app many use to play LAN games together remotely. If you are just trying to access a home computer while away, LogMeIn works great, and is free.

I used Sygate til it turned to a Norton product, now I'm using Outpost. It works well, but pops up way too many messages. It also interferes with lots of my programs (most notably my minidisc extraction software, which i use a LOT). What do you guys use? I'd like to avoid McAfee, Norton stuff, and ZoneAlarm. Free or pay is okay with me. Lightweight would also be nice.

I know it's a question that's asked time and time again, I just want more opinions. ;)

A:Recommended Firewall?

There is a new piece of hardware being released soon called Xgate.I don't have much information at the moment except that it is a firewall, anti virus and modem all rolled into one.It sounds very interesting especially the firewall part.
My information is that it will be available at about the end of the Month.

I've currently been using a VPN service (privatetunnel) the past year since I'm working overseas and often have access issues to north america with my non-north american ip.  It's been a really good one but I'm just curious if anyone can recommend any other VPNs they think are really good?

I'm looking for something in the minimum 2Mbps to 5 Mbps, $40 ish per year range or so.  Which ones have the best privacy policies?  I like the idea of some services that use SHARED IPs (difficult to trace, but it also has it's drawbacks i guess cuz some ppl will get that IP banned for doing whatever and then the rest of us can't access it).

I was thinking of privateinternetaccess but undecided still as to who I should sign up with?  I'm at the time to renew my contract/buy more data usage with current vpn or look around for a better one?

Thanks for any recommendations.

A:Best or recommended VPN services?

My husband is in the FS and heading to Pakistan shortly.  We've been researching the VPN thing quite a bit lately.  The one that has come most highly recommended is StrongVPN.  If you only want to hook up one machine, you can do that.  But if you want to use wifi with multiple devices and still have a US IP and the security that goes with it, they offer a router as well.  Pricing varies.  But that's what we're going with based on recommendations from others who are posted all over the world.

I have heard of a few free firewalls, but I'm seeking the best. I wanted to know which free firewall you think is best. Right now I'm thinking about sygate, kerio, & zonealarm, and if anyone knows any different ones I'd be glad to know also. Thanks!

A:Which Firewall is Recommended???

ZA - great for the average home user with its default settings which make configurung it a dream , but seemed to offer less protection than the other two ......

Sygate - excellant protection but picked up alot of negatives and slowed resources a bit ..........

Kerio - probably the best protection i have used , but a real pain to set-up especially with multiple users on a system .............
....so , if you have a family on a computer , go with Zone Alarm ........ if it is only you on a system , take the time to configure Kerio .......

It looks like I have some sort of spyware or web-tracking software on my machine.

There are two problems:
- I often (but not always) get a pop-up in the lower right corner of the browser screen with random advertising messages. When dismissed it sometimes shows "Recommended for You"
- Also, when I click a normal link in a website I am sometimes sent to a completely unexpected page (and sometimes it is detected as a malicious site by Avast).

I am running Win7 (Home Premium SP1), the Chrome browser (v19.0.1084.46 m) and avast! (v7.0.1426).

Hey Tech Support Guys,

I'm not sure where to put a question like this so i figure i'd stick it here...we have had our computer for several years and many games and applications have been installed but not properly uninstalled...most of these remaining files are still on my computer...is there a way to clean out the C drive and get rid of left behind files so that they will never bother me again? Thanks for any help!!

A:Recommended Removal?

If you mean XP's 'add and remove programs' left bits and pieces behind, then you will have to go to Program Files folder and clean them out yourself. Sometimes things are also left behind in the 'your-user-name/Application data' folder. Some also leave things behind in the registry, you'd have to search for it and remove them. I dont think there's an easy way to do these steps.

Is there anything I can do?

Hey. I've been trying to rid Trojans and Malware from my computer. I'm using Windows XP w/ ESET's "NOD32" virus protection.

I've been working with ESET to get rid of my virus. After about a week, they told be to use combofix since they couldn't figure out how to remove a trojan.

I've read It's highly recommended not to use combofix without the direct supervision of a pro. Who should I look to? What is my first step?

Thanks!

A:Recommended use of ComboFIX

Hello bdgiant and to BleepingcomputerYou are correct, Combofix is extremely dangerous to use without the direction and supervision of a specialist. It can actually cause problems when used as directed; such things are inevitable when you're using such a powerful tool though. One of the reasons for advising that you not run it unless supervised is so that side effects may be dealt with if and when they arise. I'll have this thread relocated to Am I infected? What do I do? and will be glad to help you with your malware issues. We're not going to use Combofix though; it's use is restricted to the special Malware Removal forum. If we can't solve your problems with some basic techniques, we'll send you to the Malware Removal forum for advanced removal.First we'll try to get rid of whatever is plaguing your system with some simple tools; if that fails we'll see where we need to go from there.Could you describe in detail what the issue with your machine is? I understand you've found malware, but what symptoms are you experiencing? What are the filenames of the detected files? Et cetera. If this first tool doesn't kill it, that information will come in handy in determining the next step. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2IMPORTANT!!! - when you save the file, rename it to something random, such as bubbles.exe This must be done before beginning the download!MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Hi -

i bought a custom made pc with intel i3 processor, 2 TB or hard disk and 2 GB or ram.

I am not sure why... but i have a felling that 2 GB of RAM is not enough.

FYI
Windows explorer crashed when i visit a specific directory of the a drive. that particular folder has around 100 Videos(Movies) in different formats (mkv, mp4, avi, wmv). The same folder can be accessed through VLC open window.

Problem
Window explorer crashed and asks to restart when opening a specific folder.

A:2 TB of harddisk - what RAM is recommended?

you probably want more, but how about helping us to help you by filling in your system specs>
Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Manufacturer and Model and
ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the ?Other Info? block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

You will find that in Speccy, you can select info from the display
using your mouse/touchpad and then paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

When they are talking cold they are talking in the minus ferinheit range. A normal CPU fan will never get you that cold. Here's a link for some guidelines:

A:Recommended CPU upgrade?

Your board will support Core 2 Quad processors which should give a bit of a boost.
All depends what you are using it for. For games, more and more are now utilizing more than 2 cores but not all so I wouldn't expect massive improvements. For video editing, 3d modelling etc. you would see a decent performance increase.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Yorkfield 2.66GHz 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115057 - $181.99

(Your board will support up to Core 2 Quad Q9650(rev.E0,3.00GHz,1333FSB,L2:12MB) but none listed on newegg, since I'm not on your side of the pond I don't know many other sites to search. Pretty sure it would be an expensive part too)

For around your budget you could just get a new system and put your 6850 into it.

Core i3-2100/H61/4GB/1TB SuperCombo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.719539 - $297.99

The i3 processors aren't the best performers. I'd try and stretch to an i5 if you decide on this route. The linked combo is just an example of what you can get for your money. If you have a decent power supply unit and case you can cut down on what you need to buy. There are some decent bundles on CPU, motherboard and ram available. Have a look around before you invest in old technology.

Hello,

I work for a company that is developing a point of sale software:

Point of sale or point of service (POS or PoS) can mean a retail shop, a checkout counter in a shop, or the location where a transaction occurs. More specifically, the point of sale often refers to the hardware and software used for checkouts the equivalent of an electronic cash register. Point of sale systems are used in supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, stadiums, and casinos, as well as almost any type of retail establishment.Click to expand...

And we want it to work on a Linux platform, what are some recommended programming languages that would work perfectly on a Linux platform?

A:Recommended Languages

C and C++ compilers are freely available for download or come installed in some Linux distributions (aka gcc and g++).

However, your application requirements should figure in to selecting the best language for the project. PoS software is a business application. COBOL is usually used for business software, whereas, C and C++ although considered high-level languages are quite good at interfacing with assembler (machine language) software if that is a requirement of the PoS software your company is doing.

I've already been recommended the R7 370 as a replacement and the R9 285 or R9 380 as a step up. Also been recommended the new RX series and have been looking at the RX 470 and RX 480.
Would appreciate any recommendations. Doesn't have to be any of the cards already mentioned.

I recently purchased a new system with a 120GB SSD. Because these new drives are Flash-based, should I add a small UPS to my system with at least enough juice to safely shut down in the event of a power outage?

A:Solved: UPS Recommended for SSD?

Interesting question ..
I don't think the results of a power outage would be any different on a SSD as it would on a HDD.
I've only lost power a couple of times .. It didn't bother my SSD any differently than it would have on a HDD

Well my cd drive stopped reading everything all together this morning so it's time to replace it.

I'm going to go with an external cd/dvd(although dvd isn't crucial).

Any recs on a good reliable one?

Hey, my processor is old and slow and it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking for something *substantially better* but not extreme high end. I'm looking to spend around... $250.

This is my rig here, could anyone recommend a CPU upgrade you feel would be reliable and fast for midrange price?

Thanks

right now i have a 350 watt box pushing the following items....

1 DVD-RW drive,
CD-RW drive,
2 hard disk drives,
floppy drive,
GeForce 7600GS video card
1 PCI slot exhaust fan

these are items hooked up to the box

is there a recommended watt amount for this system?
should i go higher or stay as is?

A:the recommended PSU wattage

If you have no problems, leave it. You could try some burn-in type tests to strain the system and see how it responds.

But a bigger PSU is always better, of course, especially with higher end graphics cards.

I just got done building two computers using the C2D 6400. I used the Asus P5B-E and was not overly impressed. I hated the bios and its looks. It had a problem with any overclocking at all and some of it's own software messed it up. Anyone care to lead me to another board that you would recommend?

You might want to go to a true gamers forum for this answer. Lots of folks here are also gamers (I'm not really) but a casual search on Google (game forums) turns up lots.

One I saw immediately and I checked, looked promising for you:

I have a P3 WL810 motherboard and installed a processor for socket pga370 but the bios doesnt recognize it. I was told that the processor was too fast for this motherboard. The processor was a 800MHZ. What would be the recommended CPU size of this motherboard?

A:Which Processor is recommended?

There are several revisions of that board, so the limit would depnd on the exact revision I suspect.

In it's original form it supported up to 533 MHz according to the manual.

Use the following steps to reduce compatibility issues and improve Vista performance STEP Update all your drivers in the following sequence If you are unsure of what drivers you need and where to get them then open a new help topic in the Drivers Forum Mainboard drivers Video card drivers ACPI drivers and hotfixes if applicable Sound card drivers LAN WLAN Bluetooth etc all the rest STEP Update the components that are already a part of Vista Run quot Windows Update quot and install all quot Important quot and Recommended quot updates then reboot Then install the updates listed below and reboot before running quot Windows Update quot again Recommended Updates and installing all quot Important quot and quot Recommended quot updates Windows Installer DirectX You need this whether you running DirectX Recommended Updates or NET Framework C for Vista bit C for Vista bit STEP This step involves cleaning up some rubbish files in Vista left over by installers etc and defragging the hard drive for better performance Download and run this Utilities zip which contains three shortcuts Run one at a time and when each shortcut is running be patient and don't use your pc as the DISKCLEANUP shortcut is removing unneeded files from your pc and the DEFRAG shortcuts are doing a more thorough defrag than the standard vista defrag so it may take a few hours depending on your Recommended Updates hard drive size Once the last shortcut has finished reboot your pc STEP The final step is to check your RAM and Hard drive to make sure they are working properly First you should check you RAM for errors by clicking the vista start orb and typing in the search bar MdSched then hit enter then click on restart now You can now check your hard drive for errors by clicking on the vista start orb and then clicking on Computer You then right click on your hard drive and click Properties Next go to the Tools tab and under Error Checking click on Check Now and tick both the boxes Then click Start and reboot your pc STEP Enjoy your updated and faster pc

Well, I will gladly check and try this out when I get home tonight. I like Vista but slow startups and some other short comings are making me want to go back to XP and so far, and the little I know about Windows 7, it has some things I already hate with a passion so... I either have to start liking it or enjoy being upset!

I want to buy a new computer that's capable of playing the most demanding shooter games. I look at Dell and Alienware and I'm seeing a lot of gimicky stuff that's nice but not needed. I don't need anything that's fancy or has flash about the outside. But the parts inside must be of quality. I'd like to know a few online sellers that are well regarded that I can check out rather than just going to Gateway & Dell or Alienware

Thanks.
