I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hello all, We've got the same problem here with our x1 Carbon 4th gen (20FB). Lucky, we just purchased 2 but not 2 dozen. Both of them have the same problem which same as Swhitcher. We've called the Lenovo support hotline and ask for the onsite support. The on-site engineer replaced the mother board for us, but after 1 hour, problem occur again. We're going to deploy those computers to the end user very soon.So please, give us the solution as soon as you can, Lenovo! Many Thanks! Hi, We are having an issue with our X1 Carbon's(20FB). The audio output via an HDMI cable works, we see the Epson speakers in the playback devices. After the user is logged on for a while, the speakers will no longer showup in the playback devices and the auidio will just come through the laptops speakers. After we restart the computer, the audio will again work and play to the speakers. Windows 7 X64 Any help or thoughts on this is greatly appreciated. I recently got a X1 carbon 4th gen (20FB), and I have been super happy with its performance. However, it seems like whenever I have the laptop closed, the keyboard is leaving a mark on the screen. I sent it to repair, and they changed the screen, but that didn't seem to fix it. I noticed that the body and the lid are not perfectly aligned - one of the corners of the lid seems to be jutting out a little bit with respect to the rest of the body. I've attached picture to show this. I'm not sure if this is a part of the general design of the Carbon. Can anyone with a X1 carbon 4th gen confirm that this alignment feature is not present in their machine? Thank you ?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-carbon-4th-gen-20FB-lid-and-body-alignment/td-p/3441108
Hi, does anyone know if there is a list of compatible embedded LTE chips that will work on a X1 Carbon 20FB? The reason why I ask this is bec the current model, EM7455, only operates at some frequencies that some abroad contries do not support and the older models such as the EM7355 support those frequencies. One being GSM. I tired to install a EM7355 into my 20FB laptop but the bios isn't allowing it. Thanks!
EM7455 is versatile enough and supports a lot of 4G/LTE including LTE-A and 3G bands worldwide. It does not support 2G (GPRS/EDGE) access technology.

Hi, I've got an X1 Carbon 20FB (4th gen), and noticed it doesn't have Lenovo System Update on it, which I've found useful in the past. So I went to the Lenovo downloads site and found System Update, but it doesn't list the 20FB as one of the X1 Carbons it supports - it only goes up to 20BS, 20BT: http://support.lenovo.com/se/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-... (See the "Note for ThinkPad X1 Carbon users") Should I avoid downloading System Update then? I've not noticed anything that's not functioning, but I figured it makes sense to keep things up to date from a security and features point of view. Why is it not included by default? Thanks for any advice!https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/System-Update-on-X1-Carbon-20FB/td-p/3427436
Hi, I have x1 carbon 20FB and I have Synoptics WBDI bio scanner. Device is working fine when I try to use scanner to log in to the computer. Hi all, I have have new X1 Carbon and really like it. However I am getting regular BSOD failures once or twice per week. I am running Win7 Enterprise SP1 and have all the lastest Lenovo urgent updates installed and most of the recommended and optional updates installed too. The BSOD have been of the following types:KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (1e) on June 28thMEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a) on June 30thBAD_POOL_CALLER (c2) on July 6thMEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a) on July 7thDRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL (c5) on July 21st At first I thought it was faulty RAM so I ran MemTest (http://hcidesign.com/memtest) for over night for two nights in a row and no issues were detected. Has anyone encouneted this issue and know how to fix it? Any recommnedations from Lenovo? If required I can attached detailed log dmps. Thanks,Ian

Hi, trying to get a Windows 7 Install done on a Carbon X1 2016 20FB w/ Samsung950 Pro. Bios 1.14 (latest as of May 2016)Special issue is, I need to get it done in a Legacy mode (BIOS,MFT style). I was able to install Win7 based on a win7 image that got the 950pro drivers and the USB3 drivers infused through NTLITE, and then I build an image with Rufus 2.9 (both UEFI/GPT and UEFI/MFT) worked, with the X1 BIOS was set up to UEFI only with CSM.BUT I need to to run on the BIOS setting 'Legacy' and in MFT style, b'cause the special Win7 installer I need to use does not support anything else. Hello, I have this problem for month now :I close my X1 Carbon lid before going to bed, and in the morning, when I resume it from hibernation, the trackapd and trackpoint are totally unresponsive. Everything else work fine, I just have to wait, sometimes 20/30sec, sometimes a whole minute, to have the trackpad working. This is very frustrating to have a computer resuming so fast from hibernation but being unable to use it. I have the latest BIOS (1.15), latest UltraNav driver (188.8.131.52).Tried several drivers uninstallation/reinstallation, several fresh windows install, problem is still present. I'm setting up a new X1 Carbon with machine type 20FB. It came with a Samsung MZNTY256HDHP SSD. I noted there was a recent SSD firmware update package for this laptop model, so I downloaded and ran the updater. It reported there were no updates. However, after digging a bit deeper, I discovered that the SSD firmware updater for the X1 Carbon 20A7/20A8/etc. DOES have an update for the SSD in this machine. What is going on here? Does this firmware update somehow only apply when the SSD is installed in a 20A7? Or did this particular model of SSD just get missed when Lenovo was putting together the firmware update package for the 20FB?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Missing-SSD-firmware-update-for-X1-Carbon-20FB/td-p/3485035

Just got my brand new X1 Carbon (4gen 2016/20FB) with the 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD (THNSN5512GPU7). Was expecting a blazing fast disk, but it felt sluggish something that AS SSD Benchmark confirms (see attachment). According to the specs this drive should offer up to 2400 Mb/s read and 1500 Mb/s write. But I get 1800 MB/s read and abysmal 113 MB/s write. The machine has all the latest updates from Lenovo (incl BIOS) and all the drivers for Windows 10. Anyone else tested their drives? Found a Dell XPS owner with the same drive that complained about the same issue. Turning off windows write cache buffer flushing does help, but that is not a good answer.

Hello! I have made many driver pachages and image loads of lenovo pc, but i cant figure this one out. I think I have spent 4 hours of researching and I have realised I need to put down my pride. Hi, the power options sets that the display should turn off in X minutes. But it doesn't do it at all. Instead, the computer is locked and the display dimms. Hi all, I have the X1 Carbon 2016 (20FB) and it is running Windows 10 Enterprise. I have all the lastest Windows and Lenovo updates. It all works pretty well except when it comes to starting back from sleep mode. I have the laptop configured to go to sleep when I close the lid. However when I reopen the lid, the power button and keyboard lights come on but the display stays off. Opening and closing the several times doesn't help. The only way to get the display to turn on is to quickly press the power button. This puts the laptop to sleep. If I press the power button again the laptop comes back to life and the display works again. Anyone else have this issue? Any possible solutions? Hi, I updated my X1 Carbon 4th gen to 1.17 BIOS, and since then, opening the lid won't wake the computer from hibernation, except when plugged.Bios changelog states Disabled the power button when the computer is in battery mode and the
computer lid is closedbut when I read "power button", I don't think "this is gonna break the behavior of the lid". And of course, no rollback is possible from 1.17, so I'm stuck with a computer wich won't wake from hibernation correctly. I just can advise you all to not upgrade bios, and see what's inside the next version...
HiI own a X1 Carbon Gen 2 thinkpad and wonder if it is possible to replace the current keyboard with a X1 Carbon gen 3 keyboard (with proper mouse buttons), or if it will not fit?I have tried to check the manuals and the connectors seems similar although some things, such as the fingerprint reader, seems different. I have no problem "loosing" the adaptive keyboard and fingerprint reader if I can have all the functionality of the keyboard and trackpoint on the new "keyboard" (i.e. the gen 3 frontpanel).
I am interested in this exact topic as well. Looks like the Gen 3 keyboards lack the adaptive keyboard - that clear stripe on the top that changes. The FRU for these X1 Carbons seem to be the whole keyboard, adaptive part, trackpad and bezel - they go for 150 USD or so. Problem is we don't know if it will work given the model year differences. A nice alternative would be just to replace the trackpoint. They came close with this one, but it is no macbook in terms of tactile feel of the pad. I really am having a hard time with it and it's been about a month. Lenovo please help!https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-Gen-3-Keyboard-on-X1-Carbon-Gen-2/td-p/1939212

I am not certain I've identified the part correctly, but this looks like the French Canadian keyboard for the X1 Carbon Gen 3 (MT-M beginning 20BS or 20BT). If so, I believe the part you need is FRU 00HT302 or 00HN947 (the two are equivalent, just made by different manufacturers). You should be able to find a supplier online - I'd start looking on the Lenovo site for options in your country (click).https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Replacement-keyboard-for-my-X1-Carbon/td-p/3427942
Hello! I have bought lenovo x1 carbon (first generation).Suddenly I found out, that its keyboard does not support detection of even TWO keys pressed simulanteneously. For some reason, I cannot get the backlit keyboard to work on my new X1 Carbon Touch. It lights up upon powering up and then will not turn on no matter how many times I hit the space bar. I don't see an option to enable/disable anywhere either. Am I missing a driver? Thanks in advance.
Go to Solution.
Be sure to hold the Fn key while pressing the Spacebar to turn on the backlit keyboard. If you have already tried this to no avail, then I would recommend checking some BIOS settings. To enter BIOS, reboot the machine. When it is powering back up and you see the Lenovo splash screen, tap the Enter key repeatedly. A menu should appear. When it does, press F1 to enter BIOS. Once here, navigate to Config ? Keyboard/Mouse and check the settings of Fn and Ctrl Key swap and Fn Key Lock. For purposes of this test, make sure they are both set to Disabled. Once done, press F10 to save and exit. The machine should now boot normally. Log in to Windows and try to activate the backlight again and see if that works.
Best of luck,

I cleaned the keyboard of my X1 carbon today, which inevitably involved pressing all keys on the keyboard randomly. Immediately after the cleaning, the speaker can't produce any sound. Headphones work fine. I checked the sound option in control panel, and everything seems to be working normally. The green bar that shows the changing volume of speaker perfectly respond to the system and browser, except no sound is actually produced. It also shows that the sound card is working fine. Does that mean that my speakers are broken? Is there any way to tackle the issue or check the status of the speaker? Does anyone have a solutions to getting the FN camera button connected to the Lenovo Settings program from the Microsoft Store in Windows 10? Since upgrading to Windows 10 when pressing the camera Adaptive key I get an error message that this key combination opens the Lenovo Setting Program. You do not have the Levono Settings Program installed on your computer. Well it is installed. On the adaptive keyboard for my x1 carbon I always keep the function keys as a default since I spend the majority of my day in PPT and excel. Unfortunately, I am always hitting the settings button because it is next to the backspace button and this triggers the settings screen to takeover. Can I somehow disable this from happening all the time?
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Adaptive Keyboard on ThinkPad X1 carbon.
The Adaptive keyboard requires the Hotkey software AND the Lenovo Power Management driver to be installed in order for it to function properly. Both can be downloaded from Lenovo's support site.
Please download Adaptive keyboard deployment guide for further assistance on setting up keyboard.

Hi all, I accidentally dropped my x1 carbon 3rd generation on the floor and since then the screen stopped working. I connected it to an external monitor, it boots fine and everything runs normally. However, I can only see the backlight working on the laptop screen. Would replacing the LED panel solve this issue or could the issue be somewhere else? Thanks for any insight! Hi, I've had my x1 carbon for a while nowand my adaptive keyboard just stopped responding out of the blue. I'm running 64 bit Windows 8.1 Pro.I've downloaded all the necessary drivers but still hadn't fixed anything.I'd really appreciate it someone had a solution to this. It's really inconvenient for me because this laptop is my dailer driver. Thanks in advancedhttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Lenovo-x1-Carbon-Adaptive-Keyboard-not-responding/td-p/3341616
I have recently re imaged a X1 carbon. The back slash has now become a hash which is annoying. I have changed all the settings on the keyboard to United Kingdom and date/language/region etc but its still showing as a hash. Whats the fix for this? Thanks,https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-carbon-keyboard-back-slash-is-now-a-hash/td-p/3384813
Took my X1 Carbon on vacation with me in Thailand. Used it once. Tried to boot it the following morning and a message about something missing - in courier font without a screen driver. Now it will not boot even into just the bios. Press the power, and the power button lights up, the keyboard function selection is active and can be toggled through, the keyboard can backlight, but nothing else. Then a short time later it shuts down on its own. I have tried powering it on and using a paper clip to press the reset button. Any ideas?
Is your warranty still active? This would be a good time to use it.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-20A7-No-Bios-No-Boot-keyboard-lighted/td-p/3300128

I was given this computer to have as a dedicated computer for CNC use. I found that when I am on some internet sights the keyboard works intermittently. For example if I try to type the word "Windows" it will type wnos and the backspace key will not always work. Other times all the keys work and depending on what site I am on the keys are goofy, it is working fine on this site.
This is a Toshiba M305D running Windows Vista. The keyboard and mouse drivers are up to date. I read that sometimes the mouse can cause this problem but I have a new mouse and I have tried 2 mice on this. Help!
Also, this is a very nice computer but has a ton of factory installed programs, since I am going to use this for CNC I want to remove a lot of programs, how do I know what to remove without compromising it's performance.
1. What is CNC?
2. I suspect the keyboard is on its way out. You can get a replacement on ebay for about $20 and they are not hard to replace yourself. Plenty of youtube vids on how to do it.
3. A virus or trojan can make your key board do strange things but I am pretty sure it just needs replacement.
4, As far as your last question the short answer is you don't know. However, most computers are loaded with bloatware and can slow a system down. Unless you know what you are uninstalling you should not attempt to do so. Which is why I always start with just the operating system as a fresh install to prevent all the added stuff not needed. Unless you have the software you are sort of stuck with what they loaded.

Windows 8 has suddenly stopped to recognise my friends keyboard. Mashing Shift-F8 seems to let the keyboard work (for several minutes). All drivers are up to date, works perfetly in Safemode and BIOS. I have reinstalled windows 8 (its only used for web browsing) and nothing has helped. It is a Toshiba Sattelite, dont have the model here, will post it in thread when I can.
Please help, getting pretty desperate. Going to try a live Ubuntu when I get home.
Sorry if I have left anything out, Im sure I have.
Model is C850-192http://www.eightforums.com/drivers-hardware/35986-windows-8-keyboard-intermittent.html
At work this morning, browsing the internet (IE), my keyboard stopped "inserting," then became entirely nonfunctional. We rebooted and encountered the same problem.
We switched out keyboards and same thing, intermittently, the keyboard would become nonfunctional.
Switched to a third keyboard and thought all was well until the afternoon when, once again, the "insert" mode would not work (in MS Word, Outlook, and in google search box).
I got around it in MS Word and Outlook by typing returns where I wanted to insert characters, inserting characters, and then deleting the returns.
Maybe tomorrow after my computer has a nap it will be in a better mood?
Any idea what happened or how I can troubleshoot this if it happens again tomorrow?
Sounds to me like you might have a loose keyboard port (hardware problem). Have you checked it?
The Dell Inspiron desktop I bought earlier this year doesn t have a PS connection so I used an adapter in order to be able to plug my favorite keyboard into a USB port Some days everything was fine but other days problems Intermittent keyboard certain keys didn t work the right-arrow key might fail or the A key or the F key would produce the letter M The company from which I d bought the adapter replaced it Intermittent keyboard problems for me but that didn t help so I bought a different kind of adapter from another company I also tried two other PS keyboards The unpredictable key failures continued suggesting the problem wasn t with the hardware I concluded that I d have to break down and just buy a USB keyboard But to my surprise the problems have persisted I ve now tried two Logitech USB keyboards and I d say at least half the time everything works fine But some mornings when I start the system the Escape key or the key doesn t work Everything looks OK in Device Manager and when I tried to reinstall the keyboard driver Intermittent keyboard problems from my disk Windows refused saying my current driver was up to date I m running XP SP Any thoughts nbsp
My keyboard stops working in between. Restarting solves the problem. However its very iritating as this happens in between the work and have to restart to make it work. I use a wireless mouse and keyboard. Every now and then, often enough to be irritating, the keyboard fails to function: the mouse works properly. The keyboard problem persists for a few minutes, after which it works again. There is no discernable pattern to this problem.
This is the third wireless keyboard to show the same problem, suggesting something is wrong elsewhere.
The keyboard batteries are not responsible for the failure.
On the same desk is a cordless telephone.
Any helpful suggestions would be very gratefully received.
I wonder if you are suspecting interference from other wireless transmitting devices? Your comment about the cordless phone suggests an obvious test - could you relocate the phone elsewhere and see if the problem still occurs? The same with any other wireless devices located nearby. Do you have any nearby electrical devices or lights which emit radio frequency noise?http://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/43152-intermittent-keyboard-non-functioning.html
I have a Gateway Solo laptop about yrs old problem keyboard Intermittent Last month it suddenly would not type the letter quot m quot I tried cleaning under the keys etc but could not find anything blocking it At the same time other keys did not work either all the rest of the letter keys were OK but things like Ctrl Fn Tab Alt etc I rebooted problem still there ran a full virus scan and suddenly everything was fine although it detected no viruses Was fine for about a month and then the same thing Intermittent keyboard problem happened Intermittent keyboard problem again only this time it s lasting much longer and it comes and goes I ve tried using System Restore to an Intermittent keyboard problem earlier point when it was working fine with no change so I am assuming at this point that it is a hardware issue Does this sound like the keyboard is beginning to fail Do they do that sometimes where it is intermittent and also only certain keys Or could a connection pin etc be the problem I was thinking of disconnecting the keyboard and then plugging in a USB keyboard to see if that solves it but we only have a keyboard with the older connection not USB Any other way to diagnose it BTW in order to type this message I had to copy and paste every quot m quot I used Thanks for any help in this Karen nbsp

Do the USB receivers stick out far enough to get a good signal?
I know with my current case, the new little short USB receivers don't stick out far enough to work consistently. You can test by moving the receiver to a different port (such as the top or front panel). After I identified the problem on mine, I ended up using a USB extension cable to move the receiver under my desk by the keyboard and mouse.
Hi I just purchased an Alienware R running Windows My BIOS drivers and Alienware Dell applications are up to date thanks to my tech support phone call today When I start my laptop if it has been sitting more than minutes I have several keys fail to respond The keys are e t y f g v b I have to double check to be sure of the exact keys If I leave the laptop on for - minuets they will eventually start to work Once it starts working I can use the computer as much as I want to restart it or shut it off for less than minutes and the keys will continue to work I then ran the two tests I started Keyboard Intermittent Key Failure Laptop the computer after letting it sit for minutes and verified the keys mentioned did not work I then attached a Bluetooth keyboard and all of the keys did work I then tried the laptop keyboard again and it still did not work I let the computer sit and verified the e key did not work I then rebooted the laptop using a clonezilla usb key All of the keys worked immediately I then restarted the laptop and booted into windows All of the keys immediately worked I don't know if it has any bearing on the situation but in Laptop Keyboard Intermittent Key Failure order to boot from the USB stick i had to turn off UEFA and enable legacy boot support I then had to re-enable UEFA in order to Laptop Keyboard Intermittent Key Failure boot from windows I am kind of stumped I would rather not reinstall windows Any thoughts Thanks Brandonhttp://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/60276-laptop-keyboard-intermittent-key-failure.html
I've not found any other thread on the internet that describes this same problem. I hope someone out there can help. :-)
The keyboard does not work properly. The Num Lock button turns off intermittently every few seconds, as though there was a lack of power to the keyboard. While it is off, I cannot type.
I have a USB hub on my computer screen. USB cable goes from my computer to the screen, and at the screen I connect my keyboard and my mouse. It has to be this way, as the screen is too far from the computer to do otherwise.
The computer functions normally otherwise. I have double-checked all my power saving options and updated all my drivers. Windows boots normally. I have tried changing USB keyboards. I tried changing the USB cable from the computer to the screen. I also tried changing USB ports.
Any ideas on other things to try?
Open the Device Manager and scroll down to Keyboards .
Click on the diamond to expand the tree.
Double click you your keyboard, select Driver, then select Uninstall.
Restart the computer, a new driver will be installed.

Problem with my Asus X550JX Windows 10 64 bit laptop with the mouse, touchpad and keyboard.
If you spot any typo(s), it's because every 11 seconds for half a second then agan (again) after 1 second for aner (another) half second, my keyboard stops processing kestrokes (keystrokes), mouse movement, clicks and mouse wheel scrolling for both t (touch) pad an (and) my Micoft (Microsoft) bluetooth mouse. There are no corresponding CPU usage spikes
It still happens if I disable wifi, antivirus or bluetooth
I have reinstalled touchpad drivers nd (and) Smart Gesture
It's hard to say when the issue started. At a few months ago. I used to play Minecraft and noticed the scroll wheel wouldn't work sometimes, which might be related.
Please can someone suggest a cause and fix?

I was checking the support site for this model. Can you check which BIOS version are you using.
On the latest BIOS update readme there is a fix related to the keyboard. I'm not sure if it will help you solve your problem but you can give it a try.
While using the notebook with screen and keyboard together, sometimes 'Autorotate on' will appear on the screen and the keyboard will cease to function, as if the tablet has been separated away from the keyboard. None of the pins or connectors seem bent or damaged in any way, and there is no particular movement from the screen that might be enough to break the connection. Is there any advice for solving this problem, particularly if it starts to get worse (it has been noticeably worse the last few days).http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Intermittent-connection-between-tablet-and-keyboard/td-p/5663951
End of February I purchased a Dell XPS notebook i - Gb SSD touchscreen version I after update 10 malfunction Intermittent Windows 13 XPS keyboard updated the system to Windows about a month ago August st and installed new Windows drivers from Dell Since Monday August my keyboard is malfunctioning All of this coincided but need of course not be related to Mondays Windows update The symptoms are as follows The keyboard stops working none of the keys respond to typing The keyboard backlight is suddenly switched on A third symptom that may or may not be related is that the colour of the battery light occasionally changes to solid orange normally indicating a nearly exhausted battery even when battery is fully charged and the power adapter is plugged in The touchpad attached mouse and touchscreen keyboard still work fine The keyboard problem seems to be intermittent On reboot things are usually as normal but after a while the Intermittent XPS 13 keyboard malfunction after Windows 10 update keyboard will start malfunctioning requiring an annoying reboot Needless to say I did run a full system scan Norton to check for malware etc As expected the test found no problems Most likely the keyboard malfunction is caused by some software problem How Intermittent XPS 13 keyboard malfunction after Windows 10 update do I solve this
I did a clean install of windows 8.1, followed by an update to windows 10, and installed the Dell drivers for Windows 10. Unfortunately, my keyboard problem returned. A few minutes after rebooting, the keyboard backlight would flash on, and the keyboard would stop responding to typing. For a notebook, that is unacceptable. The only solution was to return to windows 8. I don't like win 8, it's ugly, it doesn't make sense, but it's stable. Windows 10 wasn't. So, I won't go there again until those bugs have been solved. Still not sure if the Dell drivers for windows are causing the problem or (more likely) if windows 10 is buggy. Regardless, it's goodbye windows 10 for me. Goodbye, and maybe see you later, but much, much later.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19651352
I am experiencing strange intermittent behaviour with my keyboard mainly when using excel spreadheets where the screen zooms in and out, multiple cells are highlighted when trying to enter data, data is copied into seperate sheets & different characters are entered to the key being pressed.
The zooming in and out issue also happens when using internet explorer.
I have searched the forums for similar issues and one post suggests updating the bios, but I already have the latest version. I have also checked that my drivers are uptodate,
Any help appreciated.
Just one question: is it possible that you are using touchpad while working with excel or other software?
As far as I know this notebook?s touchpad supports some additional features like TOUCHPAD with GESTURE. So possibly you used an touchpad?s zoom feature without knowing that?
Please test it with external USB mouse?
Additionally I recommend you checking this Toshiba document how to change the Synaptics touchpad settings in Windows 8?
Since upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, the shift keys (both of them) on my pavilion have developed a problem. After a non-specific amount of time, but never any longer than a few minutes after boot (and sometimes straight away) the shift keys do not work. If I revert to Windows 8.1 they function perfectly, but if I then upgrade to Windows 10 again, the problem returns. I have tried rolling back (and updating) the synaptics touchpad driver as I found some posts that suggested this might be relevant. This does nothing. I have connected an external keyboard. This works fine under Windows 10. I have removed the keyboard in device manager and had it picked up again on a reboot. None of the things I have tried have made a difference. Any further suggestions? Thanks.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Shift-keys-on-built-in-keyboard-intermittent-at-best/td-p/5690618
I have a Pavilion Ze4145 laptop with Windows XP which has just started skipping characters intermittently. It is random in nature and does so in any program. It works fine when I plug in an external keyboard. I also noticed that the touchpad operation is jumpy also which leads me to believe that this a performance problem rather than a hardware problem with the keypad. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.
I have a ZT1170 and was having (and still have) what I believe is the same problem. The fact that you have no problem with a KB without a Touch Pad 'may' also show the problems are the same.
The problem as I FINALLY figured out is that as I was typing, a part of my hand (L/R) was touching the Touch Pad and repositioning the Cursor. It was particularly noticeable when using this Forum's text box. I'd be typing along and all of a sudden I was typing in the MIDDLE of another part of the paragragh!!
It still happens occassionly, but at least I know why.

Just ruled out malware in other section of this forum. Laptop's integrated keyboard suffers intermittent lock-ups for no apparent reason (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, right now, doesn't). Touchpad seems deactivated (tried FN + F7 in case of accidental disable, but that's not the case), every option related to touchpad are grayed out in 'mouse' menu (config panel). Before malware check-up,tried system restore to last week, all problems were still there, so I reverted back. I have to use visual keyboard to type. Have to work with external mouse because touchpad doesn't work. Tried reinstalling touchpad drivers from Acer website, and didn't work. Computer worked perfect a few days ago.
Sounds like you may have some system files corrupt. This can occur after a lot of spyware. Some times just removing it dose not correct what it has already messed up. Your best maybe to back up your personal stuff. Then do a factory reinstall.
I upgraded my system at the beginning of January with an i - K in a Gigabyte GA-Z X-UD H with GA-Z87X-UD4H USB mouse keyboard Intermittent with Gigabyte and failure GB Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H Intermittent USB failure with mouse and keyboard of G Skill Trident X memory Almost immediately after build I started running into a problem with my USB Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H Intermittent USB failure with mouse and keyboard ports The primary problem is that my mouse will often stop responding for a few seconds followed by the Windows USB disconnect sound after which it will begin working again At first I thought it was only occurring when I let my mouse sit unused for an extended period of time but soon Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H Intermittent USB failure with mouse and keyboard found that it could happen at any time and in any condition In addition to the issues with my mouse my keyboard will occasionally completely disconnect all lights are off and will remain unusable until I unplug the connector from the USB port and then reconnect This latter issue has only happened once while the computer was running but has happened during reboot at least five to seven times I have spent some time working through the issue on other forums and have already tried changing the USB ports the devices are connected to updating my USB and other system drivers disabling legacy USB in the BIOS reflashing the BIOS disabling Windows' ability to power down my USB ports completely uninstalling and reinstalling all USB drivers and even work through the general USB driver fix found on this forum but none of these fixes have affected the problem One suggestion I haven't been able to try is to disable USB support but unfortunately this doesn't seem to be possible as my BIOS version does not have an option to do this and even if it did I would much prefer to leave is enabled as I do use two USB external drives Anyway I'm really hoping to find some additional help in resolving the problem here as I have not been able to solve this problem elsewhere and many Google searches have not yielded a fix Thanks
Sorry to report, I have intermittent mouse response with a Logitech wireless mouse and my Gigabyte motherboard (GA Z77X UD5H). I tried a Logitech wireless keyboard and it too had the same problem. However, the same Logitech wireless mouse on my other system with an ASUS Z77 motherboard does not do this.
My Gigabyte motherboard had other problems and was sent back for warranty repair. The returned board (looks like a different board) still has the same intermittent mouse response.

What gen is your x1 carbon? Is it 3rd gen? If so that model does not support NVMe ssd due to it has no NVMe technology only 4th and yoga model of x1 Carbon has got NVMe support.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Win7-install-on-thinkpad-x1-type-20fb-amp-SM951aPCIe-NVMe-issue/td-p/3305710
I have two gen 2 X1 carbons, one with an i5 4200u (8GB RAM) and the other is i5 4210u (4GB RAM). The 4210u one, when not doing anything very intensive, is completely silent. I can put the vent up against my ear and hear nothing at all - the fan is off. The 4200u is not the same. When it boots off, the fan is off. It will stay off for about 30 seconds and then start up. It's very quiet but I don't see why it's on at all. It should be off, all it's doing is wasting power. Why is it that the 4210u stays off until I'm doing something intensive but the 4200u is always on? The 4210u is 100Mhz faster but they have the same TDP. Is there something I forgot to install after updating to Windows 10 that tells the fan to shut up when not doing much? Thanks for any helphttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-fan-always-on/td-p/3450334

Hi, I have read that all the carbons after the gen 2 use an M2.ssd. Is there anything to stop you from changing or swapping the ssd around. Are there any videos or pictures online that might show me where the drive is located. Is there anything that would stop me from buying the model with the smallest and cheapset M2 ssd and then later putting in something newer? Thanks
Sorry, perhaps I can rephrase this a little clearer. Can I assume that all the thinkpad carbon gen 4s will support any NVMe M2 SSD that I buy?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-Gen-4-SSD/td-p/3306872

OK, more of the same with a few new twists. Since racing games are among my favorites Carbon will do.
I am driving the 68 Camaro. I have played enough to mod it yet but I'll have her hopped to the max before long.

Hi! I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon that is a couple of years old. I wanted more space so I bought what I thought was the right drive, a M.2 SATA III Internal SSD. Unfortunately it doesn't fit! Here's how the old drive fits in:? The new drive doesn't fit, as you can see:? Here's a side by side photo of the two (the 500GB is the one I bought):?and here's a comparison of their pinouts, as you can see the new drive is too wide to fit:?What drive would fit in this laptop, and how do I know I'm buying the right one?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/What-drive-do-I-need-to-buy-for-my-X1-Carbon-I-thought-I-bought/td-p/3456473
My friend is trying to play Need For Speed Carbon, but it doesn't load up. He gets a black screen, but then it quits with the error NFS has encountered an error and must close. He has an Integrated 92mb vid card (should be enough considering the game ran fine on my Laptop's integrated vid card). his drivers are up to date, but still no go. Any suggestions?
X Carbon -A type nbsp Hi All nbsp I used BitLocker on Win b without any problems for almost years now A month ago when I booted my computer it asked for a recovery key and since that time it was asking every boot I also noticed that the TPM module wasn't discovered any more so that's probably the reason nbsp I reainstalled Windows clean install TPM X1 Carbon issue to Windows b and I was surprised to see that the TPM is still not present Also checked in BIOS - in Security section - there are no TPM settings I've also made an upgarde of BIOS - didn't help nbsp Does this mean that my TPM somehow got broken How can I - Make sure that I had one although I'm sure I had one since it has never been asking for a password while booting the computer - Maybe there's a separate X1 Carbon TPM issue boot menu for TPM nbsp - Can I diagnose it somehow nbsp I'm so lucky with this computer - the guarantee expired months agohttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-TPM-issue/td-p/3370159

I just purchased a new X1 Carbon with a 512Gb PCIe-NVMe SSD. I failed to follow my general rule of getting as much memory and disk as possible. So, I'd like to upgrade this SSD but have three questions: 1) What actual part do I have to order from Lenovo,2) How do I install it, and3) How do I copy the physical 512Gb SSD to the new 1Tb SSD, so I still have the Lenovo O/S and everything else I've installed on it? I have partitioned my SSD so there is: 1 - 260Mb of a simple EFI System partition1 - 1000Mb of a Recovery partition1 - 84Gb of a Windows 10 partition1 - 391Gb of an additional partition (defined as D:\) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I believe that drive in not self-encrypting/ Please note that the BIOS password is not what is used to encrypt self-encrypting. Rather it is the ATA (hard disk) password. In any case, if you set an ATA password, it is considered uncrackable. If you have a self-encrypting drive and no ATA password, the drive can simply be moved to a different machine and read directly.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-512-GB-SSD-Encryption/td-p/3305843
My new laptop will randomly shut turn itself off. It's happened twice this week and I've only had it a couple weeks. Thoughts?
Did you ever resolve this? My X1 shuts goes to sleep after about 2 minutes and I have to log in to wake it up. It's an annoyance--if i stop to think about anything for more than 2 minutes I have to wake it up each time. About once a day it turns itself off entirely. I know the settings are correct, and all drivers are current This happens whether it is plugged in or not.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-keeps-shutting-down/td-p/2174850
ok maybe a stupid question, but I just saw this lady's Dell laptop and it said windows7 carbon, what is that??? is it some kind of unlicensed OS??? didn't look like just a background or a theme

It sounds like you need either a new fan or the old one reseated with fresh thermal paste. If it is under warranty, they should do it.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-overheating/td-p/3452653

My computer was doing some Windows updates yesterday. I thought the process was done, but now I'm thinking maybe I shut it down a little too soon. This morning when I tried to boot up the computer, I couldn't get past the start up screen with the Lenovo logo. Sometimes the screen just stays there, sometimes it moves on and the screen just goes blank. I can't make it past this screen. I've tried doing a hard reset. I poked around some of the settings in safe mode (which I can't always get to), but nothing seemed to work. Anyone have any ideas on recovering rather than having to wipe the whole computer and start over?
I got my ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th gen directly from Lenovo two days ago. This morning it won't turn on let alone boot. Tried the reset several times. Tried the press power 10 times for 1 sec then 30 sec. Still won't turn on. I spent about two days getting everything set up. Appartently two days wasted. I am working with Lenovo on getting a new machine but this is pretty frustrating. I don't see a way to disconnect the battery whcih is part of the "press power 10 times for 1 sec then 30 sec" solution that I have seen on the web. I think Mark_Lenovo has posted on this (for perhaps older X1s) but I cannot see a way to contact him. I think this must be some sort of static issue. I really hope this is not a common X1 problem. I wonder if I should just get a refund and start with a different computer. I have a ThinkStation which works well which is why I went for a ThinkPad to replace my 2012 Macbook Pro Retina Display.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/x1-Carbon-won-t-start-up/td-p/3419242
