BSOD 116 faulty graphics card or faulty drivers?

Q: BSOD 116 faulty graphics card or faulty drivers?

I believe drivers? faulty BSOD 116 card or graphics faulty the initial crash was caused by overheating Based on the fact that I have gotten it to work for a short amount of time more on that later Booting up with the drivers for my graphics card enabled causes BSOD to appear but when it is disabled everything is fine I can boot into safe mode and I have already reinstalled windows My motherboard is Asus B M-e and my graphics card is Nvidia EV A GTX How I got it to work for a short amount of time I reinstalled windows and then installed my integrated Ethernet driver After that was out of the way I installed and used driver booster to install the rest of my drivers I then noticed there was a missing driver that the program could not install that was named Simple PCI Controller So I thought I should install that driver using my motherboard's driver installation disk It then worked up until I decided to change the settings in Nvidia Control panel I also do not know how faulty graphics cards behave so it might be my graphics card The game I was playing when this started was Life is Strange if that is needed

Preferred Solution: BSOD 116 faulty graphics card or faulty drivers?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sorry card? Solved: Faulty graphics Or motherboard? faulty that this is quite long but I want to give complete details as to the problem rather than just giving a vague problem Nvidia GT card has been overclocked for the last year Original Stable OC Before Solved: Faulty graphics card? Or faulty motherboard? you panic Solved: Faulty graphics card? Or faulty motherboard? it s been stable and temps have been fine lt My motherboard is a Asus P N-E SLI board The computer is dual boot to Vista for general use and XP x for games ONLY XP IS OVERCLOCKED Vista is not overclocked at all Only the GPU is overclocked in the computer Now the problems started when I moved the computer All the games on x crashed unless I underclocked the machine except UT ancient game which garbled the graphics weapon textures on walls etc I found out it was because somehow the card wasn t plugged in properly - so I pushed it back and I was able to play again Since then sometimes the card is alright and other times it isn t The other day I was playing fallout graphics intensive game for around hours without any problems But right now I boot to vista and within a minute it crashes Other times I was programming not even using graphics and the mouse suddenly has a flickering box around it - then the computer crashes When it crashes the screen goes weird colours like its rendered the screen as bit colours rather than bit and shortly after I get a blue screen with it complaining about a graphics DLL At first giving the card a wiggle in the PCI-E slot fixed it Now I ve discovered that when the garbled graphics come up if I physically push the card upwards in the PCI-E slot whilst the PC is still on they go away by this time the computer has crashed amp so I have to reboot anyway It s nothing to do with the drivers I ve reinstalled them on XP and besides the problem happens on both of the OS on the computer Vista seems to be considerably worse though - XP only crashes once in a while whereas Vista seems to be more unstable If you push the card up quickly sometimes Vista quot recovers quot It says quot the display ddriver stopped responding and has recovered quot or something like that You can then use the computer normally If I push the card down when the computer is working fine the computer crashes Any suggestions whether it s the card or the motherboard I removed the card blew dust off it etc put it back into the machine and the problem still happens although it initially solved it I don t want to spend on a new card to find that it s the MB that s the problem I m wondering if the card is fine since it doesn t have an issue with hours of gaming on a good day If it s a lose connection what can I do about it it s fully pushed into the motherboard If you ve read this far thanks nbsp

Hi there For a few weeks now i have had a few BSOD's One being irql_not_less_or_equal_too

But that i have tracked down to a faulty graphics card which the manufacture has now replaced (Ati 5870 Hd)

The machine seemed to be running fine and then last night i got
" A driver has overrun a stacked based buffer "

I am running an I7, with Gigabyte 333 Mobo and 6gb Of tripple channel ram

The machine is overclocked to 4.0ghz (Not done by myself done by overclockers)

This new Bsod has come after installing the new graphics card and happened while i was playing blackops.

I have attached the latest MiniDump file. and the Last minidump file before the new graphics card.

I have run Memtest for 17 passes and 0 Failures.

I am probably going to run a benchmark for a while see if i can replicate.

Any ideas ?????

Thanks

A:Faulty Graphics card replaced and Still Getting BSOD

Please provide this information: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

Next, please stop the overclock and return the system to default values. Test to see if this stops the BSOD's. If the BSOD's continue, we'll suggest some other tests. The overclock is very radical (2.800 to 3.822 gHz) and is (IMO) most likely the issue here. Since you passed MemTest I'd have to suspect that some overclocked component of the motherboard is causing the BSOD's.

Although limited to only 2 memory dumps, here's what I've found:
2 different BSOD error codes blaming the kernel (core of the OS). If this was the case, I'd expect more errors than just the occasional BSOD - so something else must be to blame.

This may be the start of a pattern indicating a hardware problem, so I suggest starting with these free diagnostics (skip MemTest as you've already run it):

Quote:
I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

Quote:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
http://www.carrona.org/memdiag.html (read the details at the link)
http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: http://www.carrona.org/malware.html (read the details at the link)

I am particularly concerned about the age of your USB 3.0 controller drivers. Please disable the device and remove the drivers to test and see if that's the cause.

Beyond that, the problem can also be caused by incompatible or corrupted drivers. Please do the following:
OLDER DRIVERS PRESENT IN THE DUMP FILES
- Please update these drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall/remove them from your system. Reference links are included below.
- DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.
- Please feel free to post back about any drivers that you are having difficulty locating.
- Windows Update exceptions may be noted below for Windows drivers:

A:BSOD after playing Skyrim - faulty graphics card?

To check the graphics card and your hardware:If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Run Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.

Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

   Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!
For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.
Also, STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

And make sure the system has good airflow and the graphics card does not have dust built up in the fans. Also check that no power cables are blocking the graphics card fan from spinning.

Two times in the last week my monitor (a KDS visual sensations CRT) has come on with the image looking like an hourglass (wide at the top and bottom, pinched in the center). This happened imediately upon boot up and both times rebooting has returned the monitor to normal, leaving the computer running does not bring the problem back. Which is more likely, that my monitor is beginning to fail or maybe my graphics card (a saphire, ATI radeon 7000) is failing? Is there some way (other than swaping my monitor out and trying another as this seems so far to be an intermitent problem and may not arise when a new monitor is conected) to check and see which it may be?

Hi there

A friend appears to have a problem with certain fonts in MS Office where certain letters appear to be out of focus (all other applications appear to be ok).

He has a XFX Geforce 6500 graphics card in his machine (which I've uninstalled, removed, re-seated & re-installed) & we were wondering if anyone has encountered this type of problem in the past?

My gut feeling is that the card isn't faulty but I'm not sure - anyone able to give me a steer?

Cheers for any advice

Hi, i have started to have display issues with my pc, the display screen changes itself from full screen to restore down screen, it originally only happened when i logged onto the internet but now it has started doing it when i open folders on my pc & i was wondering if i needed to get a new graphics card. A:Is my graphics card faulty

Hello~

I do not believe your graphics card is in need of a change. That is just an operating system thing. When a window or folder screen is opened- It usually opens the same way it was closed. The graphics card is not an issue- unless your seeing things that are not supposed to be there like black lines or such.

Is there any way of checking the health of my graphics card. I have a Radeon 4870 that is less than a year old. About 2 weeks ago it was working fine for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (COD:MW2), however having not played since then I tried it again today and game play is extremely stuttery, even offline.

My testing has been off-line, I have even taken the resolution down to 800 x 600 and put the GFX on lowest settings, I still get lag. Online is even worse.

The only PC changes I can think of making is changing the system virtual memory (I was testing video editing settings) however I have since changed this back to System managed and this still hasn't fixed the problem .

I have only COD:MW2 to test the GFX card witha t the moment since no other games are installed.

Hey,

I think my newly bought NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS graphics card is faulty. Is there any signs or ways to test whether it is or not.

The reason I think it's faulty is because I had a pretty messed up PC about two weeks after installing it. I eventually had to reinstall the old card (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200) and do a full system recovery (reverting back to the factory setup). Without the 7600 everything seems to be working as it should.

Any ideas?

Please help,
One day when I was playing a game, the text-
"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"
-came up in the corner of my screen, freezing my screen. From here, I uninstalled the NIVIDIA 960m graphics and the computer worked just like before. I tried reinstalling the drivers from the dell website and the NIVIDIA website, but halfway through the installer, it would crash. Forcing my laptop into some torment that could only be solved by deleting the NIVIDIA driver I had just installed.
Dell help, I am an engineering that usually knows how to solve these problems, but when I ask for your help you want to charge me 160$ for you to do it. Please help, please.
Anyone with similar issues please leave a comment saying you do so we can better grab the attention of a dell associate.

Hi all, after searching Google I came upon this site and it seems wonderful especially for fixing computer issues. Anyway, about a day ago and several times after my computer has blue screened. It happened too fast the first few times for me to understand what was happening, but I read a bit of it before it restarted and it said it had to do with faulty drivers. What program, or what should I do to eliminate or restore these drivers so my computer doesn't blue screen? I checked the event log but I couldn't understand it, I'm relatively not that good at understanding computers. I can provide you guys with the event logs if you'd like, just let me know how. (also the blue screen happens seemingly randomly)

Hi,
I recently bought a new, 3rd party power cord for my Toshiba Satellite L300 from eBay.
Recently I've noticed that my battery stops charging earlier and earlier. At first it stopped at 87%, then 83%, then 80% all in one week. I've had the computer for about a year which seems a bit early for it to start degrading so fast, so could it be the power cord?

The Toshiba cord says Model: PA-1750-29, Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 1.5A, Output: 19V[solid line above a dotted line]3.95A
The 3rd party cord says Model: PA-34671ACA, Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 19V[solid over dotted]3.95A

If the new cord is harmful to my battery, I can just solder its input plug onto the Toshiba charger (that's the only bit that was broken) but I'd rather not risk breaking two power cords if I don't need to.

---------------------------------------
Thanks,
Marlon

I've been having some problems with my computer recently (blue screens). I'm not 100% sure what's causing it but I have a strong feeling that it may be a faulty graphics card. The reasons why I think it might be the graphics card is because:

the screen flickers,
I once got a shock when attaching the monitor cable to the back of the graphics card (is this even safe?), and
Windows attributes the error to a 'device driver'.

Now back to my main question, can a faulty graphics card cause a monitor to "break"? Just today, my monitor is displaying all the colours wrong (a massive red tint). I've tried it on another computer and it's definitely the monitor displaying incorrect colours.

A:Can a faulty graphics card "destroy" a monitor?

Well, not destroy. Fry some circuitry, yes - VGA signals are 0.7V and shorting 12V to it is not a good idea

As for the shock you got.. Are you using grounded outlets and/or the same outlet for the PC and the monitor?

For no apparent reason, parts of the text on my display have disappeared. Sometimes several words, or the bottom half of the words are missing. I presume this is a fault with the graphics software perhaps having been corrupted. I have tried rolling back the driver and then rolling it forward again but it makes no difference. Can anyone please offer an explanation and a cure? I use Windows Xp Sp3 with a Radeon 9600 Series software version 8.573.0.0.

Hi peeps,

My question is: are there any (affordable) ways of repairing faulty graphics cards and if so, is it worth me trying to sell my 2 faulty AGP graphics cards (one is XFX 6600GT 256MB, the other Powercolor ATI X1650 Pro 512MB) on Ebay or Techspot trade/sell area or is it just best for me to recycle them at the local recycle yard? If people are able to repair them, then maybe a re-sell as faulty could rekindle some of my losses?

Many thanks for any responses.

A:Can faulty graphics cards be repaired?

No, as cost wise it's better to replace them. Don't bother selling those on ebay.

Hi,I have been suggested to post my problem here - please see the last message on this thread http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/255287/slow-pc-with-occasional-blue-screen-crashings/Basically the blue screen I get is currently linked to the driver uze1nzk0.sys which says its AVZ monitoring device driver but I can't find AVZ on my PC. This happened when I run verifier.exe from Run and after reboot it identified this file mentioned above. I couldn't log in to Windows normally so i had to delete all verifier settings in Safe mode and boot to Windows usual mode as always. Some of the earlier blue screen shot:Blue screens information:BCCode : 10000050 BCP1 : E25C0000 BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : 805BC7B9BCP4 : 00000001 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1BCCode : c2 BCP1 : 00000007 BCP2 : 00000CD4 BCP3 : 04040202BCP4 : E1CCC4A8 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1 Followed later by: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or something.Cheers, replica

I think there might be a conflict with the driver for my wireless adapter and something else on this computer. Everything runs fine when in safe mode, computer doesn't freeze. But in normal mode, as soon as I launch Firefox/IE, the computer freezes.

The drivers for my wireless adapter was automatically downloaded from windows update. Since the freezing occurred I decided to download the drivers from the manufacturers website directly. But the drivers aren't digitally signed by windows so it won't let me use the manufacturer's drivers. I don't wanna use F8 all the time to bypass signed drivers.

Or I could be wrong and it could be something else entirely.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit
Wireless adapter is Airlink AWLH6080 300N Wireless PCI Adapter

Thanks for any input.

I bought what was supposed to be a GF8440 GS card from an ebay seller which was identified by my W7 PC as a GF8300 GS card.

The card seems faulty as it can only provided 640 x 480 resolution on both VGA and DVI.

Probably a chip fault but is it worth taking the heatsink off an reapplying paste ?

Hi,Just a quick question.I just purchased a new Radeon R7 360 as an upgrade to my Radeon HD 6670 and placed it in the same PCIe slot on my board and it doesn't seem to work. The fans come on, windows boots (hear logon sound) but there is no display. When I switch my old GFX card in it works fine. Any ideas as to why this might be happening would be helpful. Many thanks.

My Mobo is a Gigabyte GA-F2A85X-UP4 and PSU is a Corsair CX600 by the way.My old card had HDMI, VGA, and DVI ports, I always used the HDMI port. The new card has dual DVI, HDMI, and Display Port. I've only been able to try it through the HDMI as that's the only cable I have available at the moment.I tried disabling integrated graphics in BIOS and also tried resetting BIOS to no avail. Really not sure what is going on.

Hello, i've been having problems in the last few days, i recently upgraded the videocard and psu of my system to a 650w unit and a geforce 560 gtx card.It worked fine for about a week then suddenly im hit with lag everywhere i turn.I am now unable to watch videos/play games because of this. But before i go out and send my card back i would like to know for sure anyone got any ideas?

I have a geforce 6100 that seems to be faulty. I got a new motherboard about 6 months ago and ever since it hasn't worked the same. When i play videos, there is something funny about them. It plays sometimes but then i go to minimize it and re open it and its only in one small corner of the screen. I have all the codecs plus driver updates. The only way it works well is wehn i turn the acceleration down to none. ALthough the screen is very blurry when it is full screen. I have also brought it to the shop and they "couldnt find anything".

The only thing i can think is faulty card and they do not wanna play for a new one. It is integrated int he motherboard.
ANy other options, ideas?

Thanks Josh

Hi,

I encountered the following problems which I couldn't get where it goes wrong. The problem is:
1) Internet is able to work fine and sometimes may get lagging.
2) Unable to print though pinging the network printer via IP address is successful
3) Printer displays authentication error and is Ricoh MPC 2500 model

Does the above problems describes that my integrated network card is faulty?

Got this corruption in my display after about 2-3 hours of MW2 last night. This is the worst it's been so far, started as missing or incorrectly colored textures, started getting video lag during that session last night and then what you see in the picture.

This seems to have started when I built my new system but I think that may be because the old one wasn't PCIe 2.0 so it never really stressed the card...

A:Does this look like a faulty video card?

Looks like it is overheating might want to check the fan on the card and cooling on your system

Hi I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on this - I bought a second hand ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb vga card. Various artifacts appear onscreen from the moment the system posts, which makes it pretty much unusable. ONE TIME I booted up and it was completely without problems with perfect display. My question is, could this problem be caused by an inadequate power supply - It's only 235watts, or have I definitely got a fried card (my old card sitll works fine). I have tried unplugging all drives except the hard drive to see if it reduced drain on the psu, but same problems sitll occur. The rest of my system is old and therefore I presumed wouldn't need too much power, so I thought the psu might be enough. if it is the card, is there anything that can be fiddled about with to repair graphics cards? thanks

A:Faulty vga card or psu too weak?

Your PS is under powered. That could be the problem. But since it did seem to work fine once make sure it is firmly seated in it's slot. Of course no way to know about second hand products. Was it definitely working before?

Hi,

I have tried every single solution to fix my AMD R7 M260 video card, but it seems that it does not work. I have tried to install win 8.1 , because I saw a lot of complains about this video card drivers on Win 10, but this did not help. Now I have left with only one option. My video card is faulty.

Maybe you have some advice how I could prove that this video card is faulty or it does has bad drivers?

A:Faulty Laptop Video Card

The low level functions of the video card use a vga vesa driver
that does not activate the hardware accelleration.
The problems you ar e having when the driver loads indicates
bad hardware and not a driver problem.
Being as it is a 6800 go card,it is probably replacable.
It would need to be replaced with the exact same type of card,
but not necessarily the same model.
If you want to try a newer driver, you would need to uninstall the old
one from start/control panel/add remove programs.
Download a driver here.

Oh specialized support!

I believe it's your video card itself
I have a 512Meg that even has issues sometimes

I think you're best to uninstall it fully
Turn off
Detach the card gain
If you have onboard video, start with that
Turn on
Then use Driver Sweeper to remove any leftovers
Actually even run CCleaner
Turn off
Install your (clean) Addon video card
Re-install the latest drivers again
Test

hiya,

putting this way, half a year ago when i took my cpu back to the shop for servicing - they claimed that there was something wrong with my mobo and have to sent back to factory for warrenty (repairing) and till today i m doubt something wrong with it after getting back from them....

is there any software or programe to check the mobo or graphic card's condition?

thanks

edit: i think i put in a wrong section and if it is, i m really sorry coz i m just new to here

A:how to check faulty mobo & graphic card?

You can test RAM with memtest 86+
A motherboard is difficult to diagnose at home. If something isn't working and you suspect hardware, you swap parts until you isolate the broken item.
What did they say was wrong?

Please don't apologize when posting - it's annoying.

Hey guys I'll try to explain my problem the best way I can I've having trouble running games for quite sometime now Games like BFBC Mafia II Dead Space - mostly modern games that take up more CPU GPU usage When I my crashes) it Is something or card (game else? faulty, video run these games they either crash windows says they stopped working the AMD Is my video card faulty, or it something else? (game crashes) driver Is my video card faulty, or it something else? (game crashes) stops working or in some rare cases the system freezes I've pretty much tried everything reinstalled drivers reformatted etc The only time I can really get any stable game play is if I don't OC my CPU which is strange because I'm not OCing my CPU like hardcore - the max I OCed is GHz v I de-clocked to GHz v since I had the same problem months ago but this week I've been getting the same problems I had before and I didn't change ANYTHING at all so now I'm running standard clocks on my CPU GHz Raising the voltage on the CPU didn't help at all when OCing I went all the way up to v- v and nothing still crashes etc The reason I'm asking if either something is wrong with my GPU is because when games crash on my system my entire computer starts acting up the graphics pictures in games become distorted kinda like artifacts on defected GPU and the sound becomes all static like feedback I can't explain it - it's weird I have to reboot my PC in order to fix it Also I get the quot Display driver has stopped working quot in some occasions usually when I play dead space My CPU nor my video card are overheating - the max temp my CPU has gone is - c and my video card is - c This pic shows pretty much what happens after a game crashes and try to play it again http img imageshack us img jpg So should I RMA my card or could it be something else click on my system specs below my name

Memory Testing (including bootable CD's and floppies):

Memtest86
MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Roadkil's RAM Test
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)

If you have enough memory sticks, you can test them by removing one at a time and see if the problem disappears.

If you are running Vista or 7, tap F8 on boot and choose the memory diagnostic, or if you can boot up, go to Start > Search and type:

mdsched.exe

Choose to run a memory diagnostic on next boot. Or, you can boot from the DVD and run it from there.

i tried an old game (midtown madness 2) and figured something out.
if i set it to run on hardware only i have no trouble, but if i set the game to run with hardware and software thats when it crashes, ive downloaded the latest drives for the graphics card, forceware version 78.01. at the moment my cpu temp is 35C so maybe it isnt overheating.

any help would be great as im out of ideas

I am getting frequent BSODs lately and my computer restarts randomly. I suspect its the net adapter, cause when I remove it, it doesn't happen. I bought a new one, replaced it, but the old one is still listed in Devices. I can't uninstall it, so I disabled it.
Here is the dump file I got from the BSOD. I need help to determine if its really a problem with the net adapter, not with something else. Thank You.

A:Can a faulty net adapter cause BSOD?

The crash dump does not point towards the net adapter or its driver but the D1 error code usually relates to a faulty/corrupt driver.

What is the problem with uninstalling the old driver, that is usually fairly straightforward.

Are you still getting BSOD's with the new adapter installed?

Hi Lujan -

Did you run the suggested scans? Adaware and Spybot S&D? I can see evidence of Housecall's ActiveX control...did it find anything?

There is no malware showing in your HJT log. From your other posts, it seems like you have windows issues. That said, we can use another scanner to see if there is any malware present. Please do the following:

Please download Ad-aware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/...2cleaner.shtml to download the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware at http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D http://security.kolla.de/. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available.

Now click Mode menu and choose 'Advanced Mode'. Next click on Immunize to your left. Click the Immunize button (green cross) on top to Immunize your computer - you should do this each time there is an update. Now go to Tools->Resident and make sure that TeaTimer is checked. What this will do is monitor any system/registry changes and will ask you for permission to change any of these settings.

Now click on the 'Spybot-S&D' option on the top left to go back to the main screen. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the 'Fix Selected Problems' button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix http://majorgeeks.com/download4392.html and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Please empty any Quarantine folder in your antivirus program and purge all recovery items in the Spybot program (if you use it) before running this tool.

Download the Mwav virus checker at http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/mwav.asp (Use Link 3)

1. Save it to a folder.
2. Reboot into Safe Mode.
3. Double click the Mwav.exe file. This is a stand alone tool and NOT just a virus checker......so it won't install anything.
4. Select all local drives, scan all files, and press SCAN. When it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
5. In the Virus Log Information Pane......
Left click and highlight all the information in the Lower pane --- Use &CTRL C &on your keyboard to copy everything found in the lower pane and save it to a notepad file
*Note* If prompted that a virus was found and you need to purchase the product to remove the malware, just close out the prompt and let it continue scanning. We are not going to use this to remove anything...but to ID the bad files.

Once you copy that to a Notepad file...highlight the text and copy it here.

Ive been getting BSOD's for months now. every time i take it back to be looked at under warranty they say that its all fine hardware wise and theres nothing wrong with it.
It started constanly blue screening this morning so i have formatted and have a fresh install of windows 7 on with no updates and no drivers.
it then blue screened while i was out side. ive uploaded the mem dump file.
if anyone could take a look at it and let me know what they find that would be amazingly helpful.

Hi and welcome. Little doubt about what caused this crash. You were runnning winsat, and the video driver folded

I would re install the video driver
run a system file check to verify and repair your system files
dl memtestx86 and run it for several hours

Good Luck

Hey, Just bought some parts into my PC and decided to reinstall who OS to SSD. Everything is disabled, Windows is also nerfed, I have turned off things like before.
These disabled things worked on the older PC without any BSODs. With this new one I am having BSODs, I thought it was pagefile but seems It isnt.
SSD is also up to date with Windows, except pagefile. Everything is disabled to decrease the daily data usage for SSD.
I did already a couple times Memtest86, there were no errors. I just stressed RAMs for 4hours and voila:
Could it be?

A:BSOD caused by faulty RAM?

Try installing a genuine copy of Windows. The ACER PID on your retail Gigabyte motherboard means you installation is counterfeit. It's worthless trying to debug counterfeit installations such as yours due to the amount of crap modified into the code. Get a genuine installation and if you're still getting BSODs we'll be glad to help.

The driver that is causing my bsod is affiliated with the process ntoskrnl.exe. I don't really know what driver that may be, some research told me that it was a core file of the windows operating system but, I don't know for sure. I have also done the driver verifier for around roughly 24-36 hours and when it was running was when it pinpointed me to the process that is used by the driver causing the bsod errors. If anyone can look through the logs of my minidumps(I also have a program located in the %systemroot%\minidump thats called bluescreenview, don't pay attention to that in the zip), that would be great .

System Specs:

Code:
Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? Yes
- an OEM or full retail version? Full Retail Version

- What is the age of system (hardware)? Around 5 months
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 5 months, no.

Afraid the were no DMP's in the upload. You uploaded the app not the DMPs.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
OK your way out.
Reboot if changes have been made.

Hello,

I recently purchased a second 8800 gts 640mb video card to work in sli with my current one. When i connect the card in sli or by itself in the same slot my older card was in and turn on the power then computer will switch on for about a second then switch back off again. If the press the button again the computer wont even switch on at all until i take the card out.I cant understand what is causing this unless the card is faulty. I have a 700 watt power supply which should be sufficient for both cards and more than enough for the newer card by itself so i dont think the power supply is the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you connected the additional power supply connector to both cards. If the new card won't run by itself, the card is bad... Simple

Thx

A:Can a faulty power supply course BSOD?

It most certainly can. Please post your BSOD log so that our resident experts can analyze it for you.

If you can get into the BIOS you might want to check the listings for your PSU voltages and temperatures and post them here.

Failing that, check to see if the PSU is overheating. Better still, remove it and either check it with a wattmeter/ammeter if you have one or take it to your local repair shop to have it checked.

Hi all this is my first post on W forum's so give me heads up on protocol if anything is missed ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Short story Computer has been giving me BSOD's increasingly at random over the last weeks BSOD has always been (Faulty Recurring BSOD - SSD?) Memory_Management the same titled quot MEMORY MANAGEMENT Recurring BSOD - Memory_Management (Faulty SSD?) quot with one sole exception which was titled quot BAD POOL HEADER quot or something along those lines BIOS and SSD Firmware are at their latest releases Included below are the dump files for the crash ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Longer version My opinion at the moment is my crucial m SSD's are failing reads and writes causing the system to crash I've had spontaneous crashes on steam aswell which is located entirely on a separate gb M SSD game files also constantly require validation and often need to be downloaded again Plugins in chrome aswell as Skype crash repeatedly then launch and run without a hiccup seemingly at random Crashes normally occur within a few moments of startup or not for a long time BSOD's did not occur for a few days after reformatting and updating SSD Firmware to G From F BIOS for the Z was updated at the same time System is water cooled however I do not believe this is at all relevant to the crashes since the Sinks have been attached properly and heat readings on all hardware never exceed C with the exception of the GPU under load I know NAND flash is always going to be more volatile memory than magnetic platters but I'm crossing my fingers I don't have to replace any hardware to fix this Any help insights on PC health in general are greatly appreciated thanks in advance to those who reply as this issue is almost rendering the machine unusable

A:Recurring BSOD - Memory_Management (Faulty SSD?)

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Edit: Follow what marsmimar said at first.

I have recently upgraded my RAM from 4BG to 8 and have no been getting the BSOD for the first time ever. They are never the same... I've had the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE errors. I am not so computer-savvy that I build them, but I know enough to add RAM.

9 x out of 10 it will happen during gaming, streaming or other video-intensive applications.

I have tried to test my ram but after the test runs I never see a report giving me the status of the ram to ensure all blocks are working properly.

Hi.

I have a computer that randomly crashes during the day.
Minidumps refer to ntoskrnl.exe.
I've read a few of the threads here related to ntoskrnl, but I'm not getting any wiser.

Tried a full reinstall of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, but that didn't seem to help either

I recently changed the RAM from one single 2GB-chip to Two 2GB-chips. Could it be the chips?

A:Suspected faulty net adapter causing BSOD

NOTE: I have severe eye problems. If I do not respond to your postings, please PM another staff member for assistance.

NOTE: Please provide the following information for a more detailed response: http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ta-452654.html

There's not a whole bunch of info in the uploaded text file. It points to ntoskrnl.exe - which is unlikely to be the cause. we'll need the info requested above in order to massage a bit more info out of your system.

Bug, FWIW, if the BOSD's stop when you replace the network card - then that's most likely the problem.

To uninstall the old card, first remove the software for it from Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program. Then, if the device is still listed in Device Manager, enable it - then right click on the device and select "Uninstall". The system may ask you if you want to remove the driver software. Check the box and click OK. Then shut the system down and physically remove the device from your system.

If the device is built into your motherboard, you'll have to disable the device in the BIOS.

Also, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions:

Quote:

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Special Pool" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:

Code:
Delete these registry keys to stop Driver Verifier from loading (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel
More info on this at this link: Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Windows drivers for advanced users

Good Luck!

Hi, I'm having problems with random but frequent BSOD. It occurs randomly, sometimes when idle, sometimes when playing SC2/WC3 and sometimes during startup. I think the problem lies with the motherboard's RAM sockets and the RAM sticks themselves, but I would like a professional opinion before ordering new parts.

Welcome to the world of custom building lol, my computer has similar problems that if i have had it turned off for more than 5 minutes it will not boot and keeps bluescreen until i do a clean boot with a power drain, my solution to that is do just set the bios on the MB to use a 1W standby and leave it in sleep mode always (reboot it every so often)

Hi guys First post here as I've looked driver kernal stack on BSOD Error: the Faulty on the internet for a couple BSOD Error: Faulty driver on the kernal stack of weeks now and not found a definitive solution to my problem About a month ago I was having problems with my drivers whereby I was crashing in games and sometimes even browsing the internet with a couple of tabs The game would freeze up and then the graphics card would restore itself but crash the game This was usually followed by the blue screen error I am getting now BSOD Error: Faulty driver on the kernal stack soon afterwards I have done a fresh reinstall of Windows and it has been working fine up until two weeks ago whereby I get sporadic blue screens that occur whether I am on a game have Chrome open or if I'm literally just sitting on my desktop doing nothing So far I have tried disabling and deleting the currents settings for the Driver Verifier but has done nothing I am open to any suggestions or ways around this As a side note sometimes when I blue screen my computer will reboot but the monitor will not load up properly I am forced to manually switch off the computer unplug the cable and hold the power button down for a while before plugging it back in and booting it up again however this only happens half of the time I have no idea what causes this Thanks -As a side note if there are any files that I need to attach I should be able to provide them I have attempted to attach one of my crash dumps to this post but cannot get permission to access it even after changing the permissions under its properties Please note that I am by no means an expert with computers so if any technical jargon could be put into simplified terms that would be very much appreciated Thanks again

Faulty driver on the kernal stack must be replaced with a working version

It seems to have started around the time it did a windows update but I also reinstalled Itunes around the same sort of time

My computer was built for me last aug and the specs are:

windows 7 home premium 64bit
4gb ram
AMD Athlon II x2 260 processor 3.20ghz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 1gb
Board: ECS MCP61M-M3 7.0, Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 080015 11/03/2010
Hard drive - Hitachi HDS5C1010CLA SCSI Disk Device (1000.20 GB)
Kaspersky Internet security

I have attached the files from the minidump and system health report

I do have the problem with NVIDIA drivers where they constantly crash although I don't remember that happening since I got the BSOD problem

Hello anyone who can help me.

This week i started getting these and they are sporadic, sometimes happening frequently almost as soon as windows appears. I have used driver sweeper to clean all drivers and this helped for a while. I have now tried to use combofix but this causes the BSOD every time without fail. I have scanned with AVG and Microsoft Essentials and they come up clean, have scanned from both in safe mode and they identified and cleaned a few things but didnt stop the problem. Relevant files are attached, if anyone has some advice it would be much appreciated.

Hi everyone I recently built a new Windows computer with an i - k processor and a gigabyte GA-B M-D H B motherboard I purchased an ASUS PCE-N R wireless adapter to go with it Possibly internet transmit not Full data. will faulty wireless card? 54.0mpbs, but bars, but have been having a rather bizarre issue plugged into a pcie x running at x slot There are times when the speed is amazing and the connection is steady but then there are other times where I have full bars the network status indicates I have internet access and a connection speed of mbps but no data will Full bars, 54.0mpbs, but internet will not transmit data. Possibly faulty wireless card? transmit in either Full bars, 54.0mpbs, but internet will not transmit data. Possibly faulty wireless card? direction Websites will not load downloads will not work in and out of browsers I have disabled my proxies and swept for viruses I have my laptop right next to it checking internet speeds and connectivity and they all seem steady I was wondering if you guys could help me assess whether or not this sounds like a faulty wireless adapter Additional notes When I choose to diagnose a connection it tells me there was a quot Problem with the wireless adapter or access point quot and that it was fixed Problem remains

A:Full bars, 54.0mpbs, but internet will not transmit data. Possibly faulty wireless card?

Welcome Dess. Have you tried reinstalling the PCi adapter's driver or use any available USB wifi adapter to check on the difference? You mentioned virus, were you infected and softwares did you scan your PC with?

A:A range of BSOD problems coming from a faulty piece of hardware

I believe you are right in suspecting a bad cpu as a possible culprit because if memory serves correct; if and when a cpu starts failing; it will generate quite a few bsod's like the ones you have uploaded because its the processor which is the main heart of the system other than the system board. I would definitely switch out cpu's if you know how to do it carefully. And yes after that definitely test the psu.

I recently got a mint condition XFX 6950 2GB from ebay. The card looks great but apparently had many software issues. First, I couldn't install any of the AMD drivers without getting the BSOD related to atikmpag.sys. I fixed the problem by doing the whole expand the AMD files and moving them to system32. The next problem I faced is drivers and artifacting. There are white lines running down my screen. Although the BSOD is now gone, the AMD drivers don't load and say that the drivers have improperly been installed on the system. I have installed drivers atleast 6 times and installed all the WHQL versions. I have no idea what to do anymore and any help is appreciated. Also, I have the lated Direct X as well as the latest .net framework. Thanks in advance.

Here's my original thread at MS forums Lots of random BSODs trying to figure out after even reinstalling BSOD, and graphics card drivers 116 replacing what is going bad - Microsoft Community There are links to dump files and bluescreenview screenshots there and a description history of the problem Turns out my old GTX did 116 BSOD, even after replacing graphics card and reinstalling drivers have some issues which were made clear when it crashed during benchmark on my second system which 116 BSOD, even after replacing graphics card and reinstalling drivers has no issues otherwise So I bought a new reference GTX and it ran great on the second system Now after coming back to the first system it's still crashing Here's the info from the utility in the sticky in this forum https onedrive live com redir resi int file czip EDIT Attached file to this post as well Anything in July or after is with the new GTX I'm beginning to think it either really is a PSU issue as per original thread I tested the PSU with a digital voltmeter and it was fine but I did not test it under load some freak motherboard issue but it didn't crash once while using onboard intel graphics or driver issue looks like maybe directx I'm waiting to upgrade to Windows to see if the DX will end the crashes My friend had BSOD issues on his new build and upgrading to Win insider preview fixed it I'm reluctant to upgrade to the insider preview but if it keeps crashing to the point of being unusable I might try it barring better advice obtained here Thanks for any help you can provide this has driven me crazy and I've already spent trying to fix it The problem suddenly appeared in May out of nowhere system was built installed in summer of It is not overclocked anymore and to be doubly sure I reset BIOS to defaults today and it still crashed actually it just plain shut off System Maximus IV Gene-Z Micro-ATX Core i k gb ram gtx wd tb with gb sandisk ssd for intel bios caching gb set for caching Windows x corsair ax psu from summer EDIT Note the GTX has not crashed while gaming once These were all from Windows desktop Google chrome VLC whatever

A:116 BSOD, even after replacing graphics card and reinstalling drivers

Oh and I ran SFC /scannow and stuff. When I tried to do it specifically on some of those directx files (mms), it said it couldn't do it. Even in safe mode.

System is stable in Safe Mode too.

I've also tried various Nvidia drivers, using driver sweeper/uninstaller (DDU one) each time. Including before installing the latest drivers when I put in the new video card.
