Windows Won't Update and Browsers Crash

Q: Windows Won't Update and Browsers Crash

I know you guys are busy, but I cannot locate a fix for this.  Windows Update will not update.  It reads"0 of XXXKb" downloading, but never gets beyond that. I use three browsers because I hate Interent Explorer, but each crashes.  Comodo Dragon and Ice Dragon, Mozilla Firefox.  They simply crash.  Internet Explorer needs to be updated, but it took over ten minutes and still did not install. Windows Security Essentials stop working on their own. One more thing: my system is slow.  I've upgraded to a new motherboard and installed 16GB or RAM, but it is actually slower than the previous build. Any help would be appreciated. Cass

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm using Windows 7. Firefox, I.E. and Google Chrome keeps crashing. I've had malware removed several times by my internet providers techs however, it still crashes. I'm told maybe it could be dust in the computer or that I need to not leave it on all day and night. Please give simple instructions. Thank you

A:All browsers crash on Windows 7 32bit only

According to Google, you're running out of memory.
https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/1270364?hl=en

32-bit machines have a limit of 4GB or in reality, around 3.7GB or some such usable. (No matter how much you have installed.) I suspect there's too much running in the background. Post an image of the Startup Tab on one of the affected machines. Don't change anything yet--Just look.

Use this tutorial: Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

One of my PC's has over the last week started to crash whenever a browser is called up (IE + Chrome). This has developed until it crashes every time I go to Google Chrome especially
Have done all the usual checks (I think) to no avail - which included TCP/IP stack repair options for Win7.

Two other Pc's 1x XP - 1x Win7 on the same network are unaffected. It seems that the 'rogue' pc runs normally in every other respect
AV and malware checks done - dll re registered the list goes on, but no success to date

Your valued suggestions would be very welcome.
Cheers

Hi there I m new to this forum and it was brought to my attention via searching for help Looks like a great source for answers Back in January a member by the name of sundavis helped out zigzag I believe i have the same problem with malware I thought i had Windows after is are update. update redirected connect, google to MALWARE..... to unable browsers trying to gotten rid of my malware problems earlier but i don t think i removed it all As soon as i tried to update i was unable to connect to the website or i was redirected to Google search engine While reading this Windows update is unable to connect, browsers are redirected to google after trying to update. A:Windows update is unable to connect, browsers are redirected to google after trying to update. MALWARE.....

Comparing your problems to someone else's is not the right thing to doIt is highly unlikely that you have the same hardware and software setup, for startersIf you are unable to connect to the internet, try safe mode w/networkingIf that doesn't work and you have access to another computer, you can burn these applications to a CD or download to a flash driveThe process of cleaning your computer may require you to temporarily disable some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. To disable these programs, please view this topic: How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

CnsMin has an uninstaller which removes most components, but leaves the machine with no network or Internet connection. I suggest you post your log in the Hijackthis forum.

It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy. Please be patient as they are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have not been replied as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, a team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

A:Browsers crash and stop working until reboot, random programs crash... trojan warning

You know what? Nevermind. It turns out a RAM chip I recently installed had gone bad.

I downloaded memtest86 and some other RAM checking program and burned the ISO files to a CD and booted my computer from them, and it failed a few tests.

I swapped out the RAM and I haven't had a problem since.

So feel free to lock this thread :D

So I am having a very weird issue with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit..

If I open Safari 4 or Internet Explorer, the taskbar crashes (if I leave the window open or minimize it, however it doesn't crash if I close it completely).. and then I hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE and the taskmanager also crashes and I have to log off then back on or restart completely.

However, if I use the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer, this doesn't happen. It is ONLY happening with Internet browsers as I have checked with other applications.

I have't installed anything I believe to cause this.. And I have no system restore points to restore too

What shall I do? I can't reinstall, unless 100% necessary as it will take me days to get all this working like it used too..

Thanks for any possible help,
Matthew.

Hello, my name is Elise and I'll assist you with this issue.

First of all, can you tell me what makes you think this is malware related?
Have you tried to uninstall/reinstall Video Card drivers?
Can you test if you have the same problems in Safe Mode with Networking?

Hello,
I have 3 accounts on my pc, 2 administrators and 1 limited. I am an administrator and the "problem user" is the other administrator. I am using Windows XP. The problem is: Whenever the "problem user" tries to open windows media player, an internet browser, or even an IM service, the "XXXX Has encountered a problem and needs to close." error pops up. The program opens for about 5 seconds and then the error comes. But when I log onto my account, everything works fine, as well as the limited account. I've tried google and even microsoft help and support and haven't found anything about this. This has just started today. I ran a System Restore, and that still didn't fix the problem. If anybody could help that would be great. Thanks in Advance.

A:Get Modern Browsers for Windows XP. Update

Firefox 46 works fine on my XP system. I have my "era appropriate" Lexmark Z816 Printer connected to that system. If the browser can't print it is probably better to copy paste to a word document and print that way, which is better in general since you can print only specifically what you want. On an older system that is no longer receiving security updates it is likely a good idea to keep the browser as up to date as possible.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so. Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so! Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work. Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix. Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix. Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.Thanks.

I have had a number of Windows updates and each time the PC has crashed when they have tried to be installed.

Today I tried again and allowed one installation KB 979306. This failed to install and I got an error code 8024200D. The update that caused the crash was KB 979099. These are both classed as important.

Any ideas what I should do or what the problem may be?

A:Windows Update Causes PC To Crash

Make sure you have already installed Application Compatbility Updates from both sites:
1)The Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update

There was an old post about this nobody replied to it but I have the same thing after running Hensence Mediabox It ran beautifully of all crash, them. Browsers the first time then at the next boot Browsers crash, all of them. no browsers would run in fact anything that tried to access the internet would crash The trouble is caused by this registry key HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services WinSock Parameters Protocol Catalog Catalog Entries Mediabox modifies some entries here which is how it does its sniffing But it screws up the whole TCP IP Browsers crash, all of them. stack Maybe it worked ok on XP but not on or it seems What I would suggest is to export this whole registry key before you install Mediabox Then when disaster strikes later on you can import it and all should be well If it s too late for that you can export the key from an uncontaminated machine and import it into your broken one Regedit does this easily On Windows I had simultaneously had failure of the USB mouse it being not recognized no matter which port I plugged it into I don t know if that is related to Mediabox or just a coincidence This is a real shame because Mediabox is the only media sniffer I have found that really works But only once I hope the developer knows this and is working on a fix nbsp

Can't figure out what's happening here. Firefox, my usual, is particularly crash prone and I don't understand why. Other browsers are no better. I've done the driver update thing and also defragged my hard drive but I'm still having problems of unknown origin.

A related thing, apparently, is that my Office 2003 is now demanding that I use the original bootup disk before it will come on without a lot of hassle. Well, we've moved since we bought this computer and the bootup disks must be in some box in the garage which would take HOURS to find. Why did my office programs suddenly need reauthorization? Is this Microsoft trying to get me to buy Office 2007?

As subject says any browsers i use keep crashing on me and it's becoming increasingly frustrating. I mainly use google chrome or firefox but IE crashes too. I checked the add-ons for firefox and they are only avg add-ons(safe search and security toolbar)
In the add on list is also microsoft .net framework assistant which is greyed out because it's not compatible with firefox 3.5.4 that's been there only in the last few days, my browsers have always crashed.
Firefox gets so bad that every week or so it crashes before it even opens and i have to uninstall and reinstall it
I have 2 gig of ram, a gforce 9600 graphics card and am running xp if any of that helps?

have you scanned your system for malware, and viruses.

Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Once you have malwarebytes installed, restart your computer then boot into Safe Mode with Networking by pressing the F8 key during the reboot.

I'm stumped here I have a client who has a Dell Optiplex running XP Pro She received an error when trying to print about the Print Spooler service not running I checked services and it was even stopped started and rebooted Nothing So then I searched around and found a suggested fix by going to System gt Advanced gt (windows wuauclt.exe XP crash update) on Performance Settings and setting the Data Execution Prevention to the spooler service exe under the Windows directory I rebooted and upon logging in received a wuauclt exe had a problem and had to close error Past that the desktop wall paper would load but no task bar and no icons Does the same thing under safe mode except no wallpaper just a black screen with the safe mode notification and build info at the screen edges I understand wuauclt exe has something to do with Windows Update So then I did a Windows Repair It ran fine but on reboot received a BSOD referencing a stop at C I can occasionally still get XP crash on wuauclt.exe (windows update) to the login but still get the wuauclt exe crash and then it stops at loading the wallpaper or black in safemode My user says the only thing she did this morning prior to the problem was downloaded and installed the Adobe Acrobat Reader update that popped up As much as I'd like to blame that I think it had something to do with setting the DEP but now I can't even get in to change it Any ideas

Have you tried Windows "System Restore"? You should see the Update restore point to take it back prior to the updates.
Also, you could try installing the .net framework here..

My Lenovo is running on Windows 8, and it freezes randomly with the times being every month or two. I looked up this problem and it said that it was something to do with after BIOS and all other drivers are updated, the HDD is defective (link here). The person giving the report also said that the problem occurred when she was running Windows 7.
My question is: Would the same effect happen in Windows 8?

I just had a blue screen crash during the latest Windows Update install. It was an update of the Bit Defender definitions. Windows downloaded the update, created a restore point and then crashed during the installation.

I used BlueScreenView and took screen caps of the information pertaining to this particular crash. I was previously plagued with blue screen crashes, but haven't had one in a month after disabling Teredo Tunneling and uninstalling Zone Alarm, using the built-in firewall instead. I can post the mini-dump if my bluescreenview screen caps don't contain enough of the information. (I didn't include them now because most of it is from previous issues that I think were resolved a month ago.)

It may just be an issue with the automatic restart after the Update was installed. I think that may have happened once before.

Should I be concerned about this?

I'm happy that it appears that plugging in a flash drive doesn't cause it to crash. Can anyone recommend a route for me to take to hopefully correct this? I tried different mice and each crashes the system with the repeated reboot. thanks for any help.

A:mouse crash after windows update

Welcome back to TSF

Lets make sure its the update that is causing this. Recently Microsoft has urgently pushed out a remote-code exploit that could spread rapidly like the 2003 MSBlaster worm. Read below:

Quote:

A remote-code exploit that could spread rapidly like the 2003 MSBlaster worm is putting all versions of Windows at risk.
Rare out-of-cycle patch emphasizes the risk

With little warning, Microsoft released yesterday an unscheduled or "out-of-cycle" patch for a highly critical vulnerability that affects all versions of Windows. Security bulletin MS08-067 (patch 958644) was posted to warn of a remote-code attack that could spread wildly across the Internet.

Microsoft says it found evidence two weeks ago of an RPC (remote procedure call) attack that can potentially infect Windows machines across the Net with no user action required.

Windows Server 2003, 2000, and XP (even with Service Pack 2 or 3 installed) are particularly vulnerable. Vista and Server 2008 gain some protection via User Account Control, data-execution protection, and other safeguards, as explained in an article by Dan Goodin in the Register.

While firewalls are a first line of defense against this attack, don't think you're secure just because you have a firewall. Malware and viruses use many different techniques to wiggle their way into our systems.

For example, my office's networks are protected by firewalls on the outside, but inside the network, PCs have file and printer sharing enabled. If a worm got loose inside the office network (and the patch hadn't been installed), the attack would spread like wildfire.

Many antivirus vendors have already issued definition updates that protect against this attack. Your antivirus program, however, may not protect you completely even if your AV definitions are up-to-date. Early reports indicate that there are already nine different strains of viruses trying to take advantage of this vulnerability. We can expect more to come, so even the best AV application may not be able to update fast enough.

I've tested this patch and have had no problems applying it. I strongly urge you to download and install this patch manually. Restart your PC before installing any patch to verify that your machine is bootable. Then be sure to reboot again after installing the patch, so the patched binaries completely replace the vulnerable components.

To get your patch read more here
http://WindowsSecrets.com/comp/081024

There were some interesting links about this patch , some people having problems with it .Look at this:

Reboot and let me know if it resolved the issue at hand

Hello All,

When I try to access Firefox or Internet Explorer, it crashes upon startup. I know I have some infection, and I suspect some back door trojan. How do I get rid of it? I ran Maleaware Bytes and it did not fix the problem. This goes beyond the browsers as I just want to get my computer clean. I have the System Antivirus 2009 virus and I was wondering what I can do to get rid of it.

Please give me some steps to "destroy" these problems. I really appreciate it.

Thanks

Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/114351/how-to-temporarily-disable-your-anti-virus-firewall-and-anti-malware-programs/

I've tried IE, Opera and Netscape and they all crash when I try to get to certain sites.. I just try to open certain pages and, I suspect, all these pages have java on them because the last time my IE crashed was when I was trying to open a chat room. I also have two "missing ~.dll" errors poping up every time I start windows.

A:Reinstalled OS and now browsers crash

It doesn't sound to me like you did a hard drive format and fresh install of Windows XP SP2.

If you did, you should've installed the SP3 upgrade afterwards, then installed all the post-SP3 high-priority updates - including upgrading IE6 or IE7 to IE8.

You want to get the operating system completely up-to-date before you start installing programs and playing with that computer.

Download ComboFix here :

Link 1
Link 2
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Here is a guide on how to disable them

Click me
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt log in your next reply.

So I turn on my computer today and whenever I try to access the Internet via my browsers (chrome Firefox and ie) they open for like 1 second and closes. It gives me the crash alert saying a problem has caused this problem to stop working. When I try to open it after, sometimes it doesn't open up at all or if I open it it opens for a second and automatically closes. The processes never show up on task manager when they crash. And none of these programs work in safe mode either.

I tried system restoring, scanned with avast, and uninstalled my browser and reinstalled to no avail. When I reinstalled, it said it downloaded and everything but same error and crash. Sometimes it doesn't even open at all, appearing in task manager but never opening and then disappearing from there. I can access the Internet through other programs such as AIM, steam chat, etc.

A:All browsers crash on startup

Bump Any ideas would be fantastic :/===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take several days, up to two weeks perhaps less, to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable.Thank you for understanding.Orange Blossom ~ forum moderator

Hi

Just updated to Update 1 on Win 8.1 on two machines. When I open the PC Settings App from Start Screen or Taskbar all the options are ok except PC and devices. When I select this on the app menu the app crashes back to the desktop. Anyone suggest a fix I suspect it's the new Drive Manager in that menu option. Other machine works fine with this option. Any Fixes?

Tim

A:Windows 8.1 Update 1, PC Settings, PC and Devices crash

Further investigation shows that if I create a new local account the app works fine and I can access the Device Settings etc. I tried deleting my main MS account off the machine and re-creating it but got myself in a bit of a mess so restored from a system image a few days ago. Is there a troubleshooting list somewhere. I seem to have found it on this site the other day but lost it again?

Did anyone else suffer a crash after installing windows updates on 1-11-11?  I have a desktop computer and a laptop, and they both crashed after installing the updates.  They both went in to system restore mode and spent several minutes
trying to fix the problem before finally rebooting and coming out of the crash.  Both times a message came up afterward saying windows had suffered a major problem.  On both occasions the norton anti-virus and firewalls had been disabled on
reboot.  At first I thought it might be a virus on my desktop, but it was weird how the exact same thing happened on my laptop.  Any clue as to what caused it?  Is it possible to have updates do that to your system? Thanks.

A:Compiler IDE crash after update, how to clean windows

Try uninstalling it with something more powerful like Revo uninstaller.

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Select Advanced Option > Select All and Delete All (both scans)

This will help find any leftover files from the installation.

I am finding a problem in which after some windows updates, all attempts to play media (any music or video file) will just freeze the application (doesn't matter which player used- even the windows startup and exit won't play the WAV sounds, and my browser will crash if i try and watch an FLV file), i always manage to fix it by restoring to before the update.

I am running a DELL 17 Studio laptop about 1 year old, Windows Home premium 7, 64-bit. I am not that technical so please don't ask questions about my hardware (as it's clearly an O/S issue),

Best regards
David

Hi my name is Ken Carrier and I am new to the forums. I am currently having a problem with SVCHOST.EXE & NTDLL.DLL crashing when the computer starts. It seems that when any programs tries to update the svchost.exe crashes and the system becomes unusable. If there is anyone out there who can help me I would really appreciate it.

A:Windows Update Causes Crash SVCHOST.EXE & NTDLL.DLL

Hi .System manufacturer and model? What SP is installed?<<I am currently having a problem with SVCHOST.EXE & NTDLL.DLL crashing...>>What are the exact, full error messages, please?<<It seems that when any programs tries to update the svchost.exe crashes and the system becomes unusable.>>Seems unlikely that "any" program would trigger svchost.exe symptoms...since svchost.exe is used by various programs/functions. Have you tried using Process Explorer to get more specific details on which svchost process might be the problem? How to determine what services are running under a SVCHOST.EXE process - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/list-services-running-under-svchost.exe-process/ Louis

A:Virus causing browsers to crash?

running Windows Vista (I think it's home premium but not too sure32 or 64 bit?Since DDS won't runPlease download RSIT by random/random and save it to your Desktop.Note: You will need to run this tool while connected to the Internet so it can download HijackThis if it is not located on your system. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding Rist attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection.Close all applications and windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop.Double-click on RSIT.exe to start the program. If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator.Click Continue after reading the disclaimer screen.Leave the drop down box set to default: "List/folders created or modified in the last 1 month (30 days). When the scan is complete, a text file named log.txt will automatically open in Notepad.Save the log file to your desktop and copy/paste the contents into a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum, NOT here.Important: Be sure to mention that you tried to follow the Prep Guide but were unable to get DDS to run.If RSIT did not work, then reply back here.

Hello everyone I did not know where to post about this problem I have been having No matter what webbrowser I use they are all slow to load and crash I have tried scanning for viruses spyware spamware and malware but nothing shows up except cookies I do not know what is causing this problem with load! and to slow crash are Web-browsers all of my webbrowsers It first started on Internet Explorer a couple of years ago So I decided to change to FireFox then that started to slow down and then crash on me also but not as often as the Internet Explorer Then I tried Google Chrome Then that started to slow down and crash but not as often as the Internet Explorer It happens everytime I load up or click on a Yahoo como page or any of the Yahoo sites Yahoo Fantasy Sports Yahoo Autos etc At first I thought it was because I had too many tabs or windows open at one time But that was not the cause I tried clearing the WEbbrowsers' cauche and clearing browsing history that only helped for about a halff hour to about a hour I even tried clearing the computer's cache being careful of what files got cleared Same results I even tried cearing old files again being careful of what got cleared Only helped for a little bit I even doing a web search on this very subject but found too many differing opinions on what causes this to happen I tried some of the recommendations as I listed above but nothing has worked to prevnt this from happening The only other things that I Web-browsers crash and are slow to load! can think of are I have too many files on my Web-browsers crash and are slow to load! Desktop on load up There is some sort of Virus Spyware Malware or Spamware that my Security programs has been unable to pickup There is interference between programs installed on my computer like one of the search results had stated that there may be too many contacts in my contacts list But that would only explain the slow start up time and not the crashes at other times of the webbrowsers Sometimes or more programs or browser installs need to use the same program or dowload information at the same time and might slow down the computer and browser and then crash the browser There may be other things that I have not thought of that could be causing the problems I am experiencing If anyone can help me fix these problems and try to keep them from returning I would appreciate it

I have had Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome web browsers all installed on my HP Windows 7 laptop for at least two years.

However, since yesterday, Chrome fails to start up & keeps on crashing before even loading. I.E. also fails to open.

Firefox sometimes opens a window but the window is a blank white screen & anything I type into the address bar disappears once I press enter. Skype is completely unresponsive when attempting to start up. My internet connection is stable & is showing as such on my laptop.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Every browser I have (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer) all crash when trying to play any Netflix or YouTube video. While viewing an animated gif, a dialog box appeared telling me Shockwave had become unresponsive and asking me if I'd like to end that process. Netflix, judging by the "Silverlight has stopped working" message I received, uses Silverlight, whatever that is. (I don't know what YouTube uses.) The only clue I have is I just updated my video card software to "AMD Catalyst 12.1," I believe. (I must admit I updated it without reading anything other than "AMD.") Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a way I can fix it?

A:Shockwave/Silverlight Crash All Browsers

Netflix/FF have known issues. For testing Netflix, use IE.

For everything else, troubleshoot/test one issue at a time and post the exact errors that you are getting.

A:Chrome and Firefox browsers crash

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer. NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions. These are the programs I would like you to run next, if you have any problems with these just skip it and run the next one.-Security Check-Download Security Check by screen317 from here.Save it to your Desktop.Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.-AdwCleaner-Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Delete.Confirm each time with Ok.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer. You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.--RogueKiller-- Download & SAVE to your Desktop RogueKiller or from here
Quit all programs that you may have started. Please disconnect any USB or external drives from the computer before you run this scan! For Vista or Windows 7, right-click and select "Run as Administrator to start"For Windows XP, double-click to start. Wait until Prescan has finished ... Then Click on "Scan" button Wait until the Status box shows "Scan Finished"click on "delete" Wait until the Status box shows "Deleting Finished" Click on "Report" and copy/paste the content of the Notepad into your next reply. The log should be found in RKreport[1].txt on your DesktopExit/Close RogueKiller+Gringo

I originally posted this in the Mozilla Firefox section but I am not sure if that was the correct place as this is happening with all of my web browsers Okay so yesterday I was in Opera viewing a friend's livestream Everything was fine I went to update my flash player from adobe so I downloaded that and installed it Then went back to using Opera and Opera crashed on me as in first it would not allow me to click on anything then my mouse froze followed by a beep and then it restarted and brought me to a blue cause computer and All browsers to crash restart. web screen of which I couldn't even read because it went by too fast then my computer restarted as usual I was quite frustrated as every time I tried to use Opera it did this Okay I said I will use CHROME All web browsers cause computer to crash and restart. So I use Chrome but after trying to watch a video a friend had posted on facebook it had done the same thing The entire time I am using Firefox to speak to a friend to help me fix whatever is wrong I downloaded and installed CCleaner and did what he said to clean everything This did not work Then I tried a System Restore to last week This also did not work Opera and Chrome still made my computer crash So I just decided I would use Firefox I quit using Firefox a while back because I found it slow and painful along with the fact it wouldn't allow me to view livestreams which is why I switched to Opera So I went onto Firefox Everything was good for an hour I went about my business and then went to type something into Google and bam it happened again Perplexed and frustrated I had no idea what to do at this moment The computer tower is now unplugged and sitting on my dining room table waiting to be taken to the computer repair shop which will cost some money and probably a lot Would anyone here know any way of solving this problem I seriously can't figure out what to do Right now I am using my basement computer and it's pretty gross down here and I wouldn't like to be using it that much Also spiders all over the place and I don't think they like me So any help would be appreciated Thank you

Hello,

I have picked up some nast viruses from somewhere online. Initially I had the "Your PC is infected wallpaper" and internet security 2010 coming up every 5 secondes. I was able to get rid of those with malware bytes, eset nod32, panda antivirus, ad-aware. However I think I still have virus symptoms. Some .exe programs won't run (I think they are .net framework apps) also my browsers crash every 5 seconds. I am attaching my HJT log. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have this T5026 emachine ... it's OS is xp ... it has been through a clean install yet it continues to cause IE 6 and FireFox 3.6 browser to crash ... could it be the emachine software for a fresh install that could be causing some kind of conflict? I mean a format and clean install should clear any problem. What do you think?

A:Emachine T5026 Causes Browsers to Crash

Sorry I misunderstood the information given ... the hard drive was not formatted and a clean install done. I used the recovery disc to see if that helps ... time will tell ...

Is there any solution to constant system failure to a level where the blue screen turns up and laptop can't be even turned on, after every system update?

I've checked the drivers and everything, but since the big update pack somewhere in March every update ends up in system failure. And the restore points before the updates are useless, because system doesn't recognize them.

After the second time this has happened and I've lost all the files that has not been backed up on hard drive I really start to think is there something wrong to Lenovo and Windows 7 combination?

I almost start to regret that I have legal version with update option.

A:System crash after every attempt to update Windows 7 64 bit on Lenovo

* It would be very helpful if we had your System Specs to know what we are dealing with...
System Info - See Your System Specs

* Have you received any error messages?

* Have you a Win 7 disk?

* IF you are having Blue Screens of Death

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
Please attach the DMP files to your next post not to post one.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

While in Internet Explorer, my Windows 7 SP1 64-bit system froze.
I had to hard reboot it and tried to get into System Restore. I could not type into the command line or open Control Panel. This went on for 2 hours.

Somehow I got into System Restore and restored to before a Windows Update for:

definition update for windows defender - kb915597 (Definition 1.191.3347.0)

Seems OK now, but would like to know what happened.

Any ideas?

A:Crash After definition update for windows defender - kb915597

Try the update again. Sometimes it just fouls out, but rarely.

Make sure you have System Restore turned on and plenty of disk space apportioned to it: System Protection - Change Disk Space Usage

If necessary you can always access System Restore from System Recovery Options by the various methods shown. I'd make my System Repair Disk if you don't have the Win7 installation media to boot.

A:Windows Update fails to download updates after crash

Hello Valle, welcome to SF!

This sometimes happens when, for some reason, things are not updated in the right order. There are loads of other reasons but for me this is the most common.

Did you take a look at: Windows Update - Reset

It can help you reset the update history and put in what you want in the order advised.

Sometimes you don't want a specific update. That is when you use this: Windows Update - Uninstall an Update

I've got two problems one is about Windows Update and one is about random error reporting windows It's just a few days ago when I went to bad at about am it kept telling me that it automatically downloaded the problems Error Reporting Windows and Crash Update updates without my permission and if I wanted to quot Postpone quot or Restart Of course I just kept clicking Postpone but eventually I saw a little selectable field asking me how long I want it to wait for it Crash Error Reporting and Windows Update problems to ask me again so I clicked for it remind me in four hours But then I Crash Error Reporting and Windows Update problems decided to go to bed but when I clicked Shut Down when I clicked the little arrow next to it so it doesn't install updates I expected it not to try and update but you know what happens next I went to bed as normal but for some reason the computer didn't turn off I went to take a look and what was it doing that I specificly told it not to do It was installing updates So I wait it out then ages later I get up again to check and it was on my desktop again whilst I was expecting it to Crash Error Reporting and Windows Update problems turn off So my big problem here is Windows Updates how do I shut this mofo up Second little problem is crash error reporting I don't know why it keeps showing up When I let my computer just start up all the problems I get an added window from crash error reporting saying something about Task Manager when I never even touched it It does this when I close Firefox too It may seem like a little problem but it's actually very annoying and I think it takes tiny bits of space too on the hard drive I'd very much appreciate some help thanks in advance

Rebootedmy laptop after latest Windows 7 updates. While closing it started installing latest service pack. Next time I looked at screen it had gone to a black screen scrolling white text. Each line is 'Recovering orphaned file xxxxx into directory xxxxx' has been doinng this continuously for an hour now with 2 or 3 occasional half second pauses. Any ideas what is happening and what I should do next?

A:Windows 7 update crash now getting recovering orphaned files

DO NOT MESS WITH IT!!!

IT is running chkdsk, which means your filesystem is corrupted.
