Windows 10 Recovery media won't work on 3020MT Tower

Q: Windows 10 Recovery media won't work on 3020MT Tower

I ve got a number of systems that have Windows 3020MT media Recovery Tower on won't 10 Windows work downgrade installed by default So I ve switched the firmware to UEFI as Windows 10 Recovery media won't work on 3020MT Tower per Windows 10 Recovery media won't work on 3020MT Tower I then booted the DVD from the UEFI boot dvd option and then try to install the OS but didn t get the option I also checked the following article but I don t get the option to Install as per step instead I get options for recovery repair same as you d get when running a recovery disc I ve tried the firmware with or without Secure Boot enabled that doesn t make a difference I ve also tried creating a UEFI USB stick from the DVD and using that same result Finally if I go through the advanced options I can select the built in option for Recovering the OS from disk the problem with this is that it installed a clean Windows install no drivers no Dell specific tweaks no Office trial installed which I simply want to activate Thought I d try the forums before calling Dell support on Monday Any ideas

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'd say skip the Dell media and use the installer from Microsoft ...

No drivers, but those few that are likely to be installed are easy enough to install.
No Dell-specific tweaks - other than Dell branding (which I doubt there is anyone that would 'want' that specifically), I'm not sure what you are referring to.
Office trial is just the free version apps with the Click-to-Run app installed - when you "activate" Office through the Click-to-Run with an existing key, the files for the version you activate are downloaded from the web anyway, so there is really no reason to let that deter you.

Almost 2 years ago I got this PC at Costco.  I made the media recovery on HP DVD-Rs back then. Now I had a bug and it was necessary to wipe everything out.I tried using those DVD's but it didn't work (now I know I was doing it wrong) so I did the download version from the HP site.It does not include the Office that came with the computer. So now I'm ready to do it over again with the recovery DVD's but they don't work.  Followed the instructions from HP and tried all the options.Buying recovery CD's from HP is no longer available. What are my other options to get Office back now, and for the future if I have to do a recovery again?Thank you for anyone who can reply.

Can someone help me with this issue?
I just purchased a dell XPS890 and have attempted (twice on 2 different 32 GB USB drives) to create Recovery Media (in accordance w/ instructions provided in Dell Quick Start Guide).  Every time I attempted to perform recovery to USB, i got the same error, which is "We can't create the recovery drive , A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive." This happens after the initial copying begins (and appears to be working but within a few minutes, the error pops up).
Please note: I was able to utilize these same USB drives with another computer (Dell 720H2C) to create a recovery disk with no problem.  Please help me understand how to deal with this problem.  Thank you - Trudy

i m not sure ..i have Hp media center PC and for some reason i have lost everything from it ...and i formatted its hard drive ...i had 3 recovery dvd from this but unfortunately i cud load only one of them ..so i tried another desktop's recovery dvd ..but i m not sure would it work in this PC too ...this one is from compaq ..if it works would it be genuine window XP again ..is it possible for me to use it again if anytime there would be any trouble in my compaq desktop .....
thanks in advance

A:I have tried compaq system recovery on HP media center ?? would it work ???

Sorry for the late reply -- but no, a Recovery disk can only be used on the computer it shipped with. The license key is tied to the hardware (often to the motherboard's Bios).

That could be the source of the trouble in your other thread, if it is the Compaq's disk you are trying to install into the Hp Media Center PC.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[P.S. on your HP, there should be a sticker with your model # & a sticker with your XP license # on it: for most Hp PCs, you can order replacement Recovery CDs for a modest fee (I think the going rate is around $30 USD). The Recovery Disk would come complete with the Windows XP operating system, and all the bundled software.]

Hi Spamcop01,
I would suggest you to try booting the system with the recovery discs again so that this time it will boot using the disc. If you’re still facing the same issue the recovery disc may be corrupt. It appears that during a storm, my tower was damaged, affected, whatever. The tower will not turn on. However, the green light on the back below the electrical plug flashes when plugged up. I have tried making sure that the on off swich is making contact, and I plan to unplug all the electrical plugs that could have been affected and then seeing if it works, and plugging them back in one by one to see if one of them were damaged. I have been told that there is a fuse that could have been blown but I cannot find a mention of one nor placement of one on the mother board. Is there a fuse?

I have also made sure that the surge protector has been reset, the outlet is fine, etc.

A:My tower Power button will not work

You could have a defective power switch on the PC case. Test this by using the reset switch as a temporary power switch. The power switch and the reset switch are the same for practical purposes except, of course, the size of the button (on most cases). If the reset switch works and is able to start the PC, then you know the power switch is defective.

One of the first things I did when I had my new PC last year was to make a set of recovery discs. Now having used the free upgrade to Windows 8.1 I would like to make a set of backup discs for this version, however, my pc say that a set has already been made and I can only make the one set.

If things stay like this, when I want to do a recovery using either the hdd partition or the discs I made, it installs Windows 8 and then I have to install what seems like a million updates before I then have to go back to the store and do the upgrade to 8.1.

Is there a way I can make a recovery dvd's for the 8.1 version ?

A:Recovery media for Windows 8.1

Instead of a recovery DVD, do an image back to an external hard drive or a large flash drive. Acronis True Image (not free) or Macrium Reflect Free are good choices to do this.\

Or ---

see here if you upgraded vis the App store:

See here: How to Create a Recovery USB Flash Drive in Windows 8 and 8.1

Hello one and all,

I am having a slight issue with setting up a users computer.

The issue is relating to creating recovery media.

Ideally I'd like to create a recovery disk however I've noticed there
isn't an option for creating recovery disks (only USB flash drive option).

I've read on the internet that the option for this was removed in Windows 8,
why? I have no idea anyway I've gone through a few tutorials and got stuck at the same place.

Product Key!

This laptop is OEM and came with Windows 8 Pre-installed therefore has an OEM license key, the issue is: It will not accept the OEM key when attempting to run the Windows 8.1 setup file in order to gain access to the options necessary for creating a recovery DVD.

Any advice?

I'd rather not have to use USB flash drives if possible hence why I am asking here.

Kind regards,
Silverj2k7.

whats themake of the PC
ACER will send out for free windows 8 / 8.1 recovery media, if you are having issues

When the Windows 8 PC was upgraded to W8.1 the recovery partition is nolonger usuable and you cannot create a recovery set of DVDs now

You will have to create the USB drive , 16GB / 32GB flash drive will be needed
HP recommend 32GB and NOT to use SANDISK, as they have a compatibility issue

A:Windows Recovery Media not recognized

Be very careful, a reset will put your system back to a factory condition and remove all your files.

You might try running the Performance troubleshooter to see if it finds anything related to the video problem. Could it be related to sound for the video?

Is this video media a file on your system, a special type of file, on something from online and streaming?

and welcome to the Forum

Sounds like you had some bad sectors on the hard drive . . If this is all you have, it's no big deal, but if you continue to have bad sectors it could mean that the drive is going bad.

Depending on the brand of the drive, you can download and run diagnostics to test the drive:

Samsung http://www.samsung.com/global/busine...ort_HUTIL.html
Seagate/Maxtor/Quantum http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/sup...oads/seatools/
Western Digital http://support.wdc.com/download/
IBM/Hitachi http://www.hgst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
fujitsu/Seimens http://www.fcpa.fujitsu.com/download...es/#diagnostic
IBM/Hitachi http://www.hgst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT

Your question on NOrton may be answered by Norton . . If you registered it when you installed, they should have a record.

Norton is not a very good AntiVirus . . You could try AVG or Avast ( both have free versions athat are good )

Just under a year ago I bought a Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows I was prompted by Dell Backup and Recovery to create Factory Backup Reinstall disks which I did Recently I think Windows must have registered a click on something that wasn rsquo t visible on screen because as I was trying to shut my laptop down it began installing Windows I am now getting prompts that I should create Windows recovery media but my options aren rsquo t clear I found http www dell com support Article us en SLN EN which states ldquo This Article Provides Information on how to Create a Recovery Drive media and recovery for Windows 10 Options or Disc for Your Dell Factory Image rdquo but I can only find instructions for creating a recovery GB USB Flash Drive Options and media for Windows 10 recovery This would be much more expensive than using DVDs less convenient to label and store and at risk of carelessly overwriting the data I have also read ldquo If you want to recover your current version of Windows hellip please update to the Premium Edition of Dell Backup and Recovery rdquo But when I tried to search for more information about Dell Backup and Recovery Premium Edition it seemed I would have to pay for it I don rsquo t want to do that I rsquo ve already paid once for a copy of Windows and I will back up other files by other means Can I create a recovery disk for Windows on my laptop with a free edition of Dell Backup and Recovery and if so can I create it on DVDs rather than a USB drive Are my Windows recovery disks still likely to work now my laptop has upgraded itself to Windows If Windows fails and I am able to recover my laptop to Windows is it likely that the option of upgrading free to Windows will remain indefinitely nbsp With thanks for any advice Chris Newman

A:Options and media for Windows 10 recovery

The Dell Backup and Recovery software has issues with Windows 10 from what I've read so I wouldn't use it.  As a matter of opinion I wouldn't have upgraded to Windows 10 in the first place but that's just me.  If DBAR does work for you, you can make a new set of Windows Recovery discs but it will take the information from the restore partition which will be Windows 8.1.  You will have to use Windows 10 backup in order to backup Windows 10 information.

Whenever I boot up my laptop I only see a black screen with a white dash flashing on the screen (no sounds beside the fan). I know it's the hard drive so I'm trying to reinstall the recovery media. I pressed C on the keyboard to being up the menu, which gives me two options: Windows 7 or memory diagnostic. When I click on windows 7, the screen just remains black, nothing happens. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem? (I tried plugging it into a different monitor just in case). Thank you.

I own a Toshiba Satellite A665 laptop.

In a nutshell: Hard drive failed.Bought new Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB SSD to replace it.Ordered appropriate recovery media based on my serial number. Disk 1, 2, and the supplement disk with the drivers all loaded fine. It restarted the multiple times, and I was getting a typical Windows loading screen when that was happening. Then it goes back to the grey recovery media wizard background and I get a popup that says, "The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons: Save log, Details, Retry. Tried retry, but I still get the same failure. The Details button produces the whole song and dance that there was some error during PININST_BBV, and to check the BurnBootWarn.log or BurnBootMerge.log. Has anybody successfully tackled this and come out the winner with a working computer once again? Why is this such a flippin' common problem!?!

A:Solved: Windows 7 Toshiba A505 Windows Boot Manager and Recovery Media failed

Wow! 180 views and so much assistance. Thank you, all.

Sorry, not meaning to sound sarcastic, I just expected a bit of help; even if it was to tell me I had been idiotic screwed it up myself and may as well throw the laptop away!

Regardless, I am only replying today to say that I believe the problem has resolved itself. I was able to use an image of Windows XP to place drivers and an OS on the hard drive. From there I was able to use the Recovery Discs afforementioned, which have now worked and I have Win7 back up and running. It wasn't as simple as I just made it sound because I don't really understand how I have fixed it, but fixed it I have.

A:Windows 8 - Windows 7 file recovery - System Repair Media

I have tried out the most popular programs, such as Acronis, and Paragon, which are reported as being compatible with Windows 8; but have found that they do not work, with Secure Boot enabled!

Paragon 12 has support for Windows 8 uEFI, GPT & Secure Boot enabled.

PARAGON Software Group - partition manager, drive backup, hard disk partitioning

Having created a "System Image", and a "System Repair Disc", using this facility, I have discovered that my Ultrabook will not boot from the "System Repair Disc"! NOT even with "Secure Boot" disabled!

That sounds like a bad burn, as the System Repair Disc will boot with Secure Boot enabled.

Create a new bootable usb flash drive using the media creation tool here. I would not use the flash drive dell gave you. You may need to install drivers after the installing 8.1 as this is not a dell specific install disk. Did the computer come pre-installed with Windows 8?

I would first pull your Windows key using produkey and write it down in case it's required during the install.  Preinstalled Windows 8 has the key embedded in firmware. You can verify this by downloading FirmwareTablesView. Look under the MSDM table and compare it to the key you obtained using produkey. Do they match?

Hi, I have a laptop with windows 8.1 enterprise, which was given to me by my school and has a ton of crapware on it.

I have now since graduated and fully paid for the computer (so it is 100% mine), however my school has not reset it.

I am the administrator, however if I want to change the lock screen background or some other misc settings I get the message "some settings are managed by your system administrator"

I also do know my product key thanks to a keyfinder program I installed.

Knowing all of the above, Is there a way I can completely reset my computer to factory windows 8.1 enterprise (or better yet, windows 8.1 professional)? I do not care about anything on the machine, I just want a clean install.

Thanks in advanced for all the help!

Hello, as soon as I received a new E31-80 laptop for work I toniced it was equipped with Windows 7. I then requested the Windows 10 USB Recovery Media the same day (it was on Monday a couple weeks ago). Next Monday it will be 2 exact weeks since I've placed the order, and the Recovery Media hasn't even been shipped yet ! This is just ridiculous. Wouldn't it be easier to allow the electronic distribution via download of the Recovery Media to avoid such a ridiculous wait ?

I ran two more scans tonight with Malwarebytes, and both showed no infections. Yet the black background and Windows Recovery virus screens all remain. This was all done in Safe Mode, of course.

In my previous post, I mentioned that Malwarebytes found one infection the first time I ran it. I found it in Quarantine, and it's called *PUM.Hijack.Taskmanager* I removed the infected file.

I'm not sure what I should do now to get rid of this thing. It's got to be hiding someplace.

I have an HP 15-AB521TX and as usual with all laptops , it comes with single C: drive. I used a third party partion manager to create 3 more partitions by removing the space from C drive , so now I have C,D(recovery) , E , F and G, But somehow now , I want to reinstall windows (using the backup recovery media (flash drive)) and I wanted to know whether it will remove all the extra partition I have created and reset to a single C drive ? Since I have data on other drives , I dont want this to happen. Thanks a lot.

Hi all After seeing a post from around a year ago about recovering Windows XP Media Center Edition I feel compelled to ask a question related to that media center recovery disc XP creating windows As you can see from my profile I bought an creating windows XP media center recovery disc HP Media Center Edition PC Now it came with a recovery partition yes What I want to know is how to create XP recovery discs from my current PC in case something fails This is not to be differentiated from the HP Recovery Discs that I made after getting the computer - those do not have the XP operating system ONLY they only give you the option to reformat your computer and restore it to quot factory condition quot - which is not what I want to do What I want to do is to create operating system recovery discs which I can use to repair reinstall Windows XP Media Center I tried calling up HP to ask them for it however they said that they no longer give out OS discs only quot recovery quot discs Thank you for your help nbsp

I have upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 and have since made a USB recovery disk using the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator; my question is will it recover to Windows 10 or the original Windows 8.1?

Also are all the drivers and software recovered?

Thanks for your patience - I'm fairly new to this!

A:Satellite P50-C-128 - Windows 10 upgraded - recovery media question

Did you create a recovery USB flash memory stick before the Windows 10 upgrade?

Usually the Toshiba recovery medium would set the notebook back to factory settings… to the same system which was preinstalled at the beginning.

I have a custom built PC, and had to buy Windows 8 on disc.

When using recovery options, the option to completely wipe the PC and reinstall Windows requires my DVD in the drive.

However, my laptop that came with Windows 8 (An Asus r500a) has the option to fully wipe the machine, and start from scratch without recovery media. No prompts other than 'are you sure?'

Is there a way for me to partition my Desktop SSD so that I could do the same thing? Or is there an image I can create using some software? I don't mind the price for the convenience.

Thanks in advance.

A:How to partition Windows 8 so it can be fully recovered without recovery media?

if you want to install windows again and wipe the system completely so there is no recovery partition available then all you need to do is boot from the dvd (you may need to select boot from cd from the BIOS), delete the partition, format the drive, reinstall windows.

There are several imaging software choices. I have used Acronis True Image in the past.

During my normal boot sequence for an XP Media Center PC the boot will pause for more than 30 seconds asking me to select Windows Media Center Edition or Microsoft Windows Recovery Console. When the Recovery Console was installed , several months ago, the boot sequence would only pause for maybe 1 second and go right into booting XP Media Center. Now it has a 30 second count down and then boots into XP Media Center. 30 seconds seems like an eternity when waiting for a computer to reboot. What changed to make it pause for 30 seconds and how can I change it back to pausing a short 1 second or so?

Here is my problem. I was just doing normal browsing the other day and the computer instantly shut down and rebooted. Only when it rebooted it flashed a bsod stating the line, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I have tried safe mode, it takes me to the log in screen, but has the same result as a normal boot up, it takes me to that bsod.

Is there anything I can do to get this thing back into windows? If I put in a Vista cd, it asks for a driver for the dvd drive, but it asks this once it is already in the windows recovery mode, so it must be reading the cd.

Any ideas folks?

hi, I am going to upgrade my graphic card to ATI 5770 so I need a new power supply which has power about 550--600 watt. But the most frustrating problem is that I failed to find a proper power supply with the correct dimension.
I have an HP pavilion e9300 which uses a very wired power supply tower-150mm(W) 86(H) 140(D). But so far all the PSUs I found is the standard size --150mm(W) 86(H) 150(D) which cannot fit in my setup.

So could any PC God give me some suggestion, please??
Is any PSU with the size of my tower or can I just simply install a bigger PSU which can still successfully power up the comptuer?

Thx in adance.

If the power supply will physically fit your case, it should work fine with your computer. Will the extra 10mm interfere internally with anything inside the PC?

Hello, I've used the recovery media creator to create a USB flash drive recovery media.

If i then use that to restore the Windows 7 installation onto a new hard drive (as SSD) will that drive itself have the recovery media partition on it?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

Or does it recover the Windows partition and nothing more?

Thank you

I have the Windows Recovery Virus. I have followed several different instructions on how to fix it but it is not working.

When I run the TDSS killer, no infections are found.
When I run the Malwarebytes Anti Malware program the only thing that comes up is the PUM.Hijack.startmenu, which doesn't seem to be the problem.

I have tried everything in both normal mode and safe mode but nothing is locating the actual virus.

Any help would be appreciated. I am running Windows 7.

Thanks,

A:Windows Recovery virus - fixes won't work

Hello Jon,did you run RKill first... then without rebooting and then run TDSS and MBAM?Run RKill....Download and Run RKillPlease download RKill by Grinler from one of the 4 links below and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
Link 4

Before we begin, you should disable your anti-malware softwares you have installed so they do not interfere RKill running as some anti-malware softwares detect RKill as malicious. Please refer to this page if you are not sure how.
Double-click on Rkill on your desktop to run it. (If you are using Windows Vista, please right-click on it and select Run As Administrator)
A black screen will appear and then disappear. Please do not worry, that is normal. This means that the tool has been successfully executed.
If nothing happens or if the tool does not run, please let me know in your next replyDo not reboot your computer after running rkill as the malware programs will start again. Or if rebooting is required run it again. If you continue having problems running rkill.com, you can download iExplore.exe or eXplorer.exe, which are renamed copies of rkill.com, and try them instead.Post the TDSS and MBAM logs.Note: By default, the utility outputs the log into system disk (it is usually the disk with installed operating system, C:\) root folder. The Log have a name like: TDSSKiller.Version_Date_Time_log.txt.Instead... Rerun MBAM (MalwareBytes) like this:Open MBAM in normal/regular mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates, when doneclick Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan (normal mode). After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot into normal mode.

Dear all,

I have a Toshiba Ultrabook (Satellite Z30-A-1E9). It comes with pre-installed Windows 8.1 64-bit Home version. Every time after a successful recovery process the laptop starts to upgrade the OS software to Windows 10. It is very time-consuming and stressing the hardware of the ultrabook. I am looking for a recovery media with Windows 10 or Windows 7. Is there a way to find it anywhere or at least create it by myself?

Thank you very much for you time!

I am trying to enable Media Sharing with my Xbox 360 and I have already read threads here with the same problem, but mine goes one step further. I will explain the problem in full and all of the steps I've currently taken.

I have Windows Media Player 11 and Windows XP, Zune also would not work.

I go to Library and Media Sharing, the window pops up, I click enable, and it freezes for about 10 seconds. I went to run and typed in services.msc. I try to enable Windows Media Network Sharing Service and click Automatic and start but get "error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start". I then set SSDP Discovery Service to Automatic and it is running. I then go to Universal Plug and Play Device host, and attempt to do the same, but when I click start I get "error 126: The specified module could not be found". l

PLEASE HELP!!!

A:Windows Media Sharing WILL NOT WORK!!!

Go to the Windows Media Network Sharing Service, right click and go to Properties. Go to the Dependencies tab and look at the services listed. Check and ensure all of these are running and set to automatic, which it sounds like you may have already done.

You may nothave the appropriate permissions to access the item".The disk I was trying to play works fine in my other computer. I would greatly appreciate any help with this. Thanks.

Re: Can't Install Media Player 10
I too can not install WMP 10 back on my computer. I receive the following message:

This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site.

The main reason that I am not using WMP 11, is that I have not figured out how to put my music that is on my computer onto WMP 11, without having to open up each music file seperately.

any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Whenever I try to download and watch a video clip with Windows Media Player, it doesn't work. After it downloads, it begins to play but instead of hearing any sound or seeing the actual video, I just see the strange graphic effects that you sometimes see with screen savers or whatever. Can someone help me figure out why WMP is not working on my computer and get it to working again? Is there a new version or updates that I need to download? Maybe there's a better player out there I could install?

What type of disc are you putting in? Is this a commercial DVD movie, or is it a burned Disc? When you put the disc in, can you go to My Computer and double click the DVD drive and access the disc? Can you play a commercial Audio CD or Software Disc?

Is WMP a necessity? There are better media players out there than WMP. VLC is my favourite, it seems to be able to play anything you throw at it. If it is a necessity, have you tried doing a windows update? Sometimes Microsoft release little fixes for things like this.

A:Clean wipe - start over - recovery disk ran. Windows xp media. no online

You need to download and install SP3 before trying anything to get your internet back. You can download it on another computer and install using a flash drive. Microsoft does not seem to offer SP3 anymore but you can download it here. Once SP3 is downloaded and installed look for any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager. If they are present post back.

I would recommend you do not use this computer for purchasing anything or using it to access any banking accounts. XP is now unsupported with security updates and has known security flaws.
