I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I shut down my laptop today and went shopping. When I came home, it wouldn't turn on. This has happened a couple of times before and I've tried giving it a hard reset. I tried turning it on without the battery and just the power cord and nothing. The light where the power cord goes in is on when it is plugged in. I tried everything and still won't start. My warranty for this laptop is gone and don't know what else to try. Please help!
Hi @krakaholyknight, Thank you for your query. I am happy to lend a helping hand. To confirm that I have the correct product, yours is a HP Stream Notebook-11-d007na? I understand that your notebook was working when you shut it down. When you tried turning it on again it would not start. This has occurred a couple of times before and a hard reset resolved the issue. You tried removing the battery but that did not help. You do see a light on the power port when connected to AC power. Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10). Please let me know the outcome. If this has helped you to resolve the issue, please click on "Accept as Solution" on said post. To show that you 'like', or are thankful for my post, kindly click the ?Thumbs Up? below. I used the media profile to download Windows 10 to a USB and everything worked fine but now there's another problem. My laptop was working after reinstalling Windows, but then I shut my laptop over and went away for ten minutes or so and I've came back to a black screen with no display at all. The white LED is on so my laptop is on. It has around 40% charge in it as of typing this. The screen is unresponsive. Please help again but thank you for helping me fix the first issue.
Hi @kirsty_mcq17, Thanks for the update on your situation. I understand that you are now having issues with the display being blank and the system unresponsive. Have you tried doing a hard reset since the system stopped responding? If the system will not boot into Windows normally, let me know if you get any errors. You can also try using Safe mode. Once you are able to log back in, please make sure you download the latest HP drivers and Windows Updates. From what you described, it sounds like the system may have gone into sleep or hibernate mode. This document will take you through troubleshooting possible issues with those features. If you feel this post has answered your question, take a moment to click Accept as Solution. My laptop was running slow so I thought I would do a hard reset since I didn't have any important files on it. So I reset it and I got a blue screen error, then a listing screen with a popup box saying there was an error or my computer restarted and I should press OK to install. I found a solution online to get past the popup box, I don't remember what it was though, but now my laptop is stuck in a state of constant reboot. It goes like this:Blue HP Logo with loading circle,Black screen,Blue HP Logo,Installing and configuring Windows install screen that doesn't move past 64%,And then black screen. This process constantly repeats. Please help.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/I-hard-reset-my-laptop-error-occurred-and-now-my-laptop-is/td-p/5671630
Last night I was using hard Won't / 12 up power Dell - after start XPS reset my XPS w in laptop mode on battery and it finally got down to of capacity nbsp At that point it shut off the screen and I moved to my office to connect the AC adapter thinking that it would simply turn the screen on when there was sufficient power nbsp The screen never came back I waited - minutes but the battery was charging nbsp At that point I attempted a hard reset by holding the power button in the on position for - seconds nbsp When I tried to power up nothing happened nbsp No backlit keyboard no screen nothing but the fan nbsp The light never came on in the switch either So I tried another hard reset with the same results nbsp I even tried powering up with the quot D quot key held down for on board diagnostics and got nothing but the fan startup I thought it might be an overheat issue so I let it set for an hour and tried again - nothing but the fan It appears that the laptop doesn t pass Dell XPS 12 - Won't start / power up after hard reset the initial diagnostics and won t even get to the point where the bios starts to load nbsp nbsp I truly thought my laptop was dead and ready for service nbsp I took it into the office the next day so I could call Dell Pro Support Just nbsp for giggles I plugged it in with the AC adapter and tried to turn it on - viola nbsp it started working again I had this problem once before and it started working after - hard resets I was working on a proposal when the laptop went down I tried hard resets over a hour period with no results It baffles me why it would start OK the next morning I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem nbsp I m running the A BIOS the most current and my XPS is configured with GB of memory and GB SSD with an i processor and Intel wireless card Any suggestions on diagnosing this The hard part is when if fails the failure is total - you can t get to the diagnostics When it comes back everything is fine and there are no events in the event log that relate to the failure
OK - I've narrowed it down to the following:
When the laptop is "asleep" it eventually goes into power down mode. It appears that connecting a power adapter to the laptop at this point will cause it to go into a confused state where, when the power button is pushed, the laptop fan comes on but no light on the power button or on the keyboard - the screen stays blank. The laptop fan runs (it's very quiet - you have to hold the laptop up to your ear to hear it.)
I don't know if the cause is a low battery or if the problem is simply with the state of the CPU at power down. I just know that when it happens, it if I disconnect the power adapter and hold the power button until the laptop fan shuts off, the hard reset allows it to come back normally. If you leave the power adapter attached, it will charge the battery but will not allow the laptop to start.
I've repeated this experiment several times with the same result every time. I'm guessing there's a bug in the BIOS that sets an error state that won't clear with the power adapter attached. Doing the hard reset without the adapter appears to clear the problem reliably.

The white led light starts out white while plugged in, then turns amber, then turns white after a few minutes and starts blinking. If I attempt to power on the laptop while it's plugged in, the led light turns off and does not turn back on until I take the battery out, put it back in and plug the ac adapter in again. Hi, As long as the previous installation of Windows 10 had activated Ok after the upgrade from 7, you can just create your own Windows 10 installation media and perform a clean installation as detailed in the guide on the following link. Note: At the activation screen, select 'I don't have a Product key' - Windows will activate automatically once the installation has completed. http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/ Regards, DP-Khttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Hard-reset-laptop-OS-deleted/td-p/5679362
My laptop won't start. I have read through this blog, and did a hard reset (twice) and it still won't start. I've had this issue in the past and have been able to solve it with a hard reset, but not this time. What else can I do? The battery still had some "juice" in it as recently as last week, as I was able to use it without power for a few hours with no problems. Thanks.
Hi there @PaulaEmde,Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that your notebook is not powering up. I am happy to help with this. When it is plugged in do you see a charging LED lit? When you try to power it on, is there any sound of the unit starting, like the fans spinning or the sound of the hard drive spinning up?Do you have another power adapter available that you can try?Have you tried a different electrical outlet?Do you have a direct power connection, or are you using a power bar, or UPS? For now give these a try, and let me know the results and the answers to my questions. Hopefully one of these will resolve the issue, but if not, the answers may help to localize the cause.Using and Testing the AC Power AdapterHP Notebook PCs - Computer does not start (Windows 8)Improving Battery Performance (Windows 8, 7, Vista)http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Laptop-still-won-t-turn-on-after-hard-reset/td-p/4982739
My Laptop was very slow and very often it was showing BSOD. Using recovery disk, I reset the laptop and reinstalled. I am having Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS. However after installation the laptop restarted and then it is showing Starting Windows and then the screen goes blank. No idea how to get this box up and running. Any help will be much appreciated. I have the recovery disk and tried it twice but its still the smae thing always. I tried to install fresh Win 7 ISO using USB but after loading the files the Win 7 welcome screen comes and then the configuration window starts and then immediately the laptop restarts.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Unable-to-start-the-laptop-after-doing-factory-reset-and/td-p/5811209
Yesterday my laptop suddenly stopped responding. I followed the tutorial and removed the battery and tried booting up the laptop using the charger. It doesn't work. I can see the charger port going from white to orange and then blank in quick succession. Then I tried keeping the battery and the charger plugged in for a long time without turning on the laptop. The charger remains orange for more than an hour before turning white. I tried running the laptop after couple of hours and it boots up fine. But on the other hand, charger starts to act up again cycling through nothing, orange and white. So when the battery charge falls below 15%, it goes through low battery and then showing a bit of charge then again warning.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Laptop-doesn-t-boot-up-even-with-hard-reset/td-p/5701676

Hello,Basically my laptop starts, shows the lenovo screen, screen goed away and nothing else happens.Story: My laptop was being sluggish and I figured resetting it would solve allot of problems. So I did, it went to reset nothing unusual, but then, it said the reset had failed, and it gave me a couple of options, which I dont all recall, but i pressed continue. After that, blank screen nothingness.I can barely tell as my screen is semi broken, from when I was cleaning it, I guess some liquid got inside and ruined the screen somehow, but still did semi work. Conclusion: wont go past the lenovo screen when starting up because of reset that failed. I hope someone can help.Greetings, Mehttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-100-305-500-Edge/laptop-wont-properly-start-after-reset-failed/td-p/3347178

Dear HP, My laptop will not turn on anymore. Nothing happens. I tried the hard reset, by unplugging everything. Also battery and power cord. pressed on/off button for 30 seconds. When I put in the power cord. The led next to it, is not burning. Dear HP, do you have a suggestion what I can do to fix this problem? With kind regards,Richard
If the power jack LED is not on we can figure it may be the power supply. It might not be putting out power. Just about any electronics shop can test its power output. How old is the unit? Still under warranty?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Laptop-wil-not-turn-on-anymore-Hard-reset-is-not-working/td-p/5629650
Hello, I was hoping maybe somebody could help me with this laptop. The issue I'm having is most of the time when I walk away from it and leave it on, upon returning the screen is just black, the computer is running but there is no response on the keyboard or mouse, which requires a hard shutdown and a restart. It then says it was not shut down properly, I start it up, and it runs fine until the next time I walk away and it does this freeze thing. I also want to note that it does not always do this, sometimes it sleeps like it should, but the problem is increasing in frequency.
No I have had this before its the drivers, the video card is going out, anything? Nobody on this forum has seen a laptop that would keep running but freeze on a black screen after going idle?
Take a guess!
I have a Windows 8 tablet Acer Iconia W700(I5 Core) and i am trying to factory reset to the default settings again because of the stupid problems i am having on the tablet.
Here is the problem i am trying to get into the BIOS which is the 1 step on the Acer website but for some bizarre reason when it is completely off i press the Windows button and the power button to get in to the BIOS as it says on the Acer Website but it keeps going to the start menu/desktop now instead of going to the BIOS. :/
I have factory reset/hard reset on my Acer Iconia W700 a couple times and i never had this problem before, i gone in to the BIOS no problem!!!
Can someone help me please?? Thanks!!!
Is it still under warranty? You should try contacting Acer.http://forums.windowscentral.com/general-tablet-laptop-discussion/397817-windows-8-tablet-factory-reset-hard-reset-problem-help.html
hi,i wanted to know if hard reset and factory reset are the same things?my laptop won't turn on and i found out that i can hard reset that, but i do not want any of my data on hard disk to be erased. is it possible?(i've shut it down before so there is no data on RAM)thanks in advance.
Hi, No, factory reset will bring your machine back to facory status (the time opening the box) byt hard reset won't. Regards.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/are-hard-reset-and-factory-reset-the-same-thing/td-p/5676772
My laptop was frozen and I couldn't get to my start menu to restart it so I did a hard reboot. Now when I try to start the blue windows icon comes up for a few seconds with the rotating dots then the screen goes black. Eventually I hear the windows start up sound, but nothing on the screen.
The screen has a slight amount of light on it. If I hit the power button for a second it will go to sleep when I push it again you can hear the disks turn back on but the smell dim screen. You cannot see the desktop, etc.http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/21843-laptop-wont-start-after-hard-reboot.html
My internal hard disk has been crashed can I use external harddisk drive to boot the laptop or use it as all purpose as we do with internal hard drive?
Hey there Kashyapgm Welcome to the community! Some OSs can boot from external drives and can even be fully installed on them but not all of them. What External drive do you have? What OS would you like to use? the USB connection is somewhat unstable so you can't really install all OSs on USB drives. It may be possible on a eSATA drives but again, that depend on the specific OS that you have in mind. I would simply recommend to replace your failed drive on the laptop and use a new internal one. If you need help with suggestions for new drives or troubleshooting your old drive feel free to ask. Hi I am using a Dell Inspiron laptop A few days ago I noticed that my laptop has become incredibly slow the system will hang sometimes and continue as per normal after a while and this coincided with my laptop beginning to make this weird sharp beeping sound At first I did not pay much attention to it but later this was joined by several BSODs and my laptop became even slower games that usually did not lag was now hanging halfway through and continuing as per normal after a lengthy period of drive start laptop up hard beeping Internal noise, making won't minute or so I tried to find the origin of the noise and I think it came from my Internal hard drive sector and thus decided to open the sector up in hindsight I probably should not have After I replaced it without doing much just doing the usual IT-amateur stuff wiping it and blowing it a few times my situation has now worsened to the point that startup takes a much longer time and finally now it hangs at the quot Starting Windows quot screen but without the Windows logo showing and my screen later turns black Any help is appreciated
Install a new drive. Use the recovery discs you created when you first bought the computer to restore it to factory new state. If you didn't create the discs then you can order a recovery disc from Dell, just go to their support site at http:/support.dell.com.
You can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here: Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River.
Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available.
I recommend using ImgBurn at 4X speed (or the slowest available) to create the DVD from the downloaded .iso file.
You can do this on any computer capable of burning a DVD.
For techies or folks who work on computers: Create Windows 7 Universal ISO With All Editions Selection On Install with ei.cfg Removal Utility.
This will fit on a 6GB flash drive or can be burned to a DVD.

Hello, first off I'm new. Second and the reason for this post is that I work on PC. I do system reloads, rebuilds, and build new custom systems. I would like to know if any body knows how to delete all accounts and start the account wizard that runs when Windows starts for the first time. The reason for this is that I have to make an account to install drivers, programs, etc.. before the end user receives the final product. I would like a way to delete all accounts and start the account wizard, like it does for the first time run of Windows, for the end user. Any help would be great. Also, if this is in the wrong place, please direct me to the correct category. THANKS!!!
Why not just create a new admin account in the owner's name, delete the one you made, then let the customer add others as required.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/193099-reset-all-accounts-start-account-wizard-next-start.html
I did a system reset where I chose to erase all mt files and apps. Now it gets stuck with the spinning thing and won't start. I can get to bios info with F2 key and updated and then rolled back the bios and nothing.
well I figured it out myself by hitting the F11 key repeatedly and following the menu there. Thanks for putting that online HPhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/did-a-reset-and-now-it-won-t-start/td-p/5822597
How do I do a hard reset on my hp lap top
Hi: Here is a link with information for how to do a hard reset... http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768/http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/How-do-I-do-a-hard-reset-on-my-hp-lap-top/td-p/5743314
I need to run a hard reset on an Pavillion notebook as it won't start up at all/slowly. If I do this will it delete any saved files on the notebook as my daughter has all her exam work on it.Thx
A reset will delete all of the files on the notebook. It is not a hard reset. that is something different. Have you tried booting to the usb recovery media that you should have created by now?If you do that, you can use Windows system restore to resolve the issue. Do you see it below the Precautions heading in the image? Hi I'm giving up my malware fight by resetting I have recently obtained the Recovery kit for my Hp Pavilion b- w All-in-One Reset Instructions After Do Over & 100% Do What Start I and I ready to do my reset But I'm unsure that everything will be erased like file history and skydrive things of that nature that can allow malware to store it's self and be reloaded or reinstalled after I wipe my computer with a reset How do I make sure everything gets wiped Then after I'm done reinstalling I'm confused as to what I should do next to minimize my risk of reinfection while removing Norton Studio I have the link written down to go straight to the page and download the removal tool and that will be the only time I'm connected to the internet because I will be unplugged throughout the whole process of reset and reinstall So how should I set my computer's security and Internet Explorer's security to make my quick extraction of the Norton removal tool safe I know after Norton has been removed I then allow Windows Defender to update by opening the app and of course clicking on update I know at the same time Windows automatic update will probably detect the connection as soon as I connect for 100% Start Over Reset & What Do I Do After Instructions the Norton removal tool so should I turn that off first before reconnecting the internet And who should I update first HP and get the latest Bios and other drivers and software installed or should I update Windows first I upgraded previously to windows and want it back I don't have it know because I thought I could get rid of some of the malware with a quick reset and then run some scans to remove the rest that didn't work lol trust me I know I was dreaming So my question is how do I incorporate the Windows upgrade into all of this I'm asking all of this because I want to make sure I do this right and minimize my risk of reinfection Thank you for your time and if any further info is needed please let me know
What OS is the upgrade kit? It is 8 or 8.1?http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/602034/100-start-over-reset-what-do-i-do-after-instructions/

Product # N9T28AV (X360 15 inch convertibles)How do you do a "Hard Power Reset" as the battery is not accessible?...on older HP laptops with access to the battery, you would remove power plug, remove battery, hold the power button in for 30 seconds. Reassemble.I can find other reset references to different types of convertible devices but not the N9T28AVIf this is posted in the wrong section, please move to the correct locationIn anticipationThank you
I asked HP about this earlier today. There is no current documentation that describes how to hard reset an x360 notebook. Well, for starters your disk is dynamic - no good. If you want that many primary partitions, initialize it in GPT.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/367494-reset-hard-drive.html
If I make a hard reset to my phone, will be deleted also the content of the memory card?
If you initiate from the settings menu you will be asked whether or not to erase the SD card. If you initiate using the key combination from a phone that will not start, I don't know what the default behavior is. I suggest you remove the card before using the key combination just to be safe.http://forums.windowscentral.com/ask-question/438052-hard-reset-wm10.html

Hi,I seem to have corrupt bios. I was setting up the system with Xubuntu 16.04 so I went into the bios settings to change it from "Legacy" to "UEFI with CMS" after I saved it and rebooted it went to a blank screen with the backlight on. Since then I've gone through the hard reset proceedures posted here using the external method with both of the bios versions posted. So far nothing has worked but it is accessing the usb drive and the screen backlight does come on and off but only in the early stages of the process. After that, nothing! I've tried holding the "win" key and "b" for several minutes so I'm fairly sure I'm not letting go too early. No flashing lights or beeps! So is this the right proceedure? Any suggestions?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Hard-reset-on-a-14-d004au/td-p/5714711

Wow, sounds like you've essentially swapped in a brand new computer.
You didn't put jumpers on the hard drive, did you? I've heard of that messing up SATA drives. Poke around the BIOS and mess with the drive settings, including raid configs that might not exist. it definately sounds like a BIOS problem related to your hard drive.
That does seem like a royal pain though.
Hi, I've been working on a computer that has had a lot of recent issues with its hard drive, and I'm getting tired of trying to fix it with the computer utilities. Could I have a link to instructions on how to completely reset my hard drive, erasing everything on it? The computer is a Dimension 8250 and doesn't have a warrantee any longer, nor does it have anything valuable on it, although I could easily transfer the few remaining files that I would like to keep onto another computer. I also have the XP boot disc, so I should be ready to do this. Thks.
If "reset" means delete everything...
You can just use the XP CD...to delete everything on any drive, before creating a new partition/formatting/installing XP.
Is there any way to disable a hard reset of a laptop (i.e. holding the power button down for five seconds)? Could one use C sharp or something like this to achieve this goal? Any help would be appreciated.
There's usually a setting in the BIOS to control this behavior. In XP and Vista you can adjust the settings for the Power button in the Control Panel...Power Options applet.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/157338/disable-hard-reset/
I did a factory reset on my Windows 7, Dell Inspiron N5030. During the reset, something happened, and it shut off. I think the battery died or something, just.
When I turned it back on, it wouldn't start. It brings up the first loading bar with the Inspiron & dell symbol, and the f2 for setup, f12 for boot options in the corner, if you click boot options none of them work, they all just respond as it does of you just let the bar load, and dont click anything. It says;
"BOOTMNGR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"
If you do this, it simply repeats.
I need it fixed. It's not even a year old. I want to preferably not have to give it to a shop to fix, as I have a lot of stuff I can't lose/don't want others accessing.
Someone please help! I'd be so grateful!
Repeat the installation of Windows process again. The Installation got interrupted in which means there is no Boot manager install or it is corrupted, including perhaps other Windows System files.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/factory-reset-shut-off-during-it-wont-start-right-657142.html
Hi, i went to restart my computer the other morning and it reset all my windows settings and a temp user file. It also takes a very long time to restart i mean about 15 minutes. What can i do to get all my settings back? I am not that computer illiterate but i do have time to try and fix the problem myself and am willing to do so.
Thanks in advance

You can backup your files to a USB HDD with an booting from an Ubuntu Live CD.
After you are safely backed up you will probably need to the the Factory Reset.
Hi everyone at TSF,
I think my processor has been damaged by the heat it produced (60+idle, need to verify this). But anyways, I was ocing the thing to 2.5ghz (which it could do before i noticed all this heat crap). But yesterday, I put the thing at 220fsb, and it locked up. I reset the CMOS jumper, and tried to turn it on. Nothing happened.
Left it overnight, came back in the morning, nothing. It's happened before. I don't know what to do. Any help?
Proc is an Athlon 64 3700 btw.
So you don't get any response at all from powering up? No bleeps or error messages or any kind?
Just a tip ...
I had some malware that reset my IExplorer start page.
Here's a .reg file that you can use to restore the start page to a picture on your PC.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]
Change the last line to the path of the image you want. Copy/Paste the above text
to a text editor and save as startpage.reg
Use regedit to merge the registry keys.

Hello everyone I've been having this problem with my computer since I had it built a while back When I'm doing anything on my computer it will sometimes completely freeze up and I will have to do a hard reset to fix it After I do a hard reset my mouse and wireless network adapter It's a USB one will have to be replugged for them to work again I've tried getting a new HDD and graphics card both of those replacements failed in remedying the problem I'm completely unsure of what could be causing the problem now I'm not sure if this is related or not but I originally had another motherboard of the same type in it but it failed then later I had to remove one RAM stick I originally had GB of RAM in the computer but now I've had to remove all of the sticks except the one Also Speccy shows that my RAM is at MHz while I have it set to MHz in the BIOS Here's my Needed Reset Crashing Hard & specs Operating System Microsoft Windows Professional -bit SP CPU Intel Core i K GHz RAM GB Single-Channel DDR Motherboard ASRock X Extreme Graphics AMD Radeon HD Series HDD GB Western Digital Any help would be really appreciated thanks so much in advance
Thank you for supplying your specs, but you forgot the most important one, the Power Supply Unit.
Freezing is usually caused by overheating or an underpowered or failing PSU. Remove the side clean out all dust, blow out all fans with a can of compressed air. Look at the label and post the Make, Model # and Wattage of the PSU. If it is under 500Watts it is underpowered for your setup Get a PSU of 550Watts or better. .
Boot into Setup (Bios) and set it to Failsafe Defaults (F5). This should set the proper speed for your RAM.
I have had a problem, for the last two months or so, that consists of my laptop freezing and requiring a hard shutdown to fix it. I have a Dell XPS15, 6gb ram, i5-2450M dual core, and a 1gb NVIDIA GeForce GT 525m graphics card with the newest drivers.
Basically, I will play any game, from the original Mass Effect to WoW to Kerbal Space Program, and my computer will freeze, and occasionally make static noise until I hold down the power button for a hard shutdown. I've done stress tests and monitored the heat, and I don't ever seem to reach the heat threshold. Additionally, I've dusted out the fans and such. One or two times I have been able to alt-tab to fix the problem, and it pops up with an error stating that the display driver has failed.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

i have an On-Q router, model# P/N 364772-01.
I'm trying to re-establish the home network, but I cant get anything to connect to the router. IP config shows no gateway, and I cant ping the router. I dont think I've ever had to do a hard reset on this router, but nothing blinks or flashes to indicate a reset took. This is a wired network, nothing is wi-fi.
Is there anything I can do??? Or is the router a brick now?
Edit: Im googling like mad, but it doesnt help when i have such an obscure router model. Would i be able to access anything if i connected my computer to the WAN port?
My computer used to have the "blue screen." Then my computer completely crashed (when I hit the power button, the light on the desktop blinks a little and shuts off)...It does not turn on the screen either...
I think it might be the hard drive. Is there a way to reset the hard drive without having to turn on? (Is there a button you can push to reset it somewhere? etc.)
Even if it is not the hard drive I would still like to completely reset it...
Thanks for any advice
No. There isn't a reset for the HDD.
If the PC won't even power up properly, there is likely a hardware failure or at a minimum, something inside the PC is not properly connected/installed.
This has been occurring for months now hard crashing, PC reset. requiring It is EXTREMELY PC crashing, requiring hard reset. annoying especially if I am in the middle of something very important The mouse cursor will lock everything will freeze and this will usually be followed by any sound repeating buzzing freezing From here it is a complete freeze The only way to get out of this is to restart my computer Now another surprising thing is that usually I need to push my reset button in PC crashing, requiring hard reset. all the way for my PC to reset I suppose this is so you don't bump the button When the crash occurs I only have to slightly touch the reset button for my PC to completely shut down Strange Upon first glance I suspected this to be my power supply however now I am not sure it could really be any other component I am fairly confident that this is hardware related but not sure what is causing these crashes Nothing seems to quot trigger quot the crashes It can happen whilst watching videos playing games browsing the web or simply idling Any help would be appreciated thanks
Please provide full specs of your PC including PSU make/model/wattage so we know what we're looking at. Could quite possibly be a PSU problem, but we need all your other hardware info too (CPU, Motherboard, RAM etc).
Is the PC pre-built or custom built?

Somebody can tell how can i make a hard reset to my lenovo flex 2 15" i dont have the one key restore key i need help my laptops always is loading
You might not have to totally reset your computer. Try these options first 1) Check to see if you have any memory cards, usb flash drives, or disks connected to the computer. ANYTHING. No wireless mouses. No USB headsets. No CDs in the optical drive. NOTHING that is not the power cable should be pluged into or in your pc. 2) Boot up in Safe ModeHold down F8 on your keyboard before you turn the computer on and hold it. You should be able to use the advanced recovery options. More info on this here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17419/windows-7-advanced-startup-options-safe-mode. Uninstall all of your recent programs or ones that should not be there (i.e, you dont remeber downloading it, or its not nessesary for you). 3) Recovery PartitionHolding F11 on start up supposedly gives the option of a recovery partition, yet I've never used it before, or know if it'll fix everything. Might be worth a shot. 4) An actual reset. To answer your origional question, here's all the possible ways at: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options Hope this helps!https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-100-305-500-Edge/Lenovo-flex-2-hard-reset/td-p/3442142
This happened EVERY DAY. I have my PC set to turn off automatically at 1 AM. If I leave it on all day then the next morning I'll come to it and it'll just have the desktop there and none of the icons or ctrl alt del or even pressing the power button will work. I have to hard reset. It's screwing up my drives!
Now, I have a lot of money riding on the stuff on my storage drives and this is really messing me up. I am thinking I need to build a whole new system because the stuff on my drives is not anything to mess around with. I have them all backed up on several clouds and NASes just in case. I don't have a crash report or BSOD to report.
I did have problems with blue screening a few months ago but that since stopped. Should I just build a new system?

My mother has Computer sometimes hard boot reset without won't an HP that runs Windows Vista Premium Home Its about - yrs old Two weeks ago the power went off for a few minutes when it was on Computer won't boot sometimes without hard reset or in sleep mode When she tried to turn it back on she could see the quot cd light quot blink once or twice the fans came on but no power I found the directions to unplug all the cords and hold the power button down to reset it Well it worked I then ran Malwarebytes and it did find one or two things but they were removed Today she called me to tell me the same thing happened But the power never went out She had it on and it must have gone into a sleep mode and Computer won't boot sometimes without hard reset nothing worked to bring it out She had to reset it again Does anyone know what would be causing this to happen I m wondering if its something I could easily fix myself or if we need to bring it to someone to be repaired
Hello kat91119,Some people have been able to awaken the monitor when the computer is in "sleep" mode by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL (not holding them) and then clicking cancel. You could try going through this troubleshooting guide: How to Troubleshoot a Vista or Windows 7 Sleep Mode Problem. You will note that they recommend updating the display drivers and the system bios, first. I wouldn't worry about the bios at this point but would check the computer manufacturer's web site to see if they have an "updated" display driver. How to determine the dispaly adapter name and version then go to manufacturer's website:First, click "Start" (the globe) and right mouse click on "Computer" and click "Properties."Select "Device Manager" then click on the (+) next to "Display Adapters." Write down the make and model number.Next, right mouse click on the Display Adapter and click "Properties," "Driver" tab, and write down driver date and driver version. Now you can go the computer manufacturer's web site (i.e. Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), look for "Download Drivers and Software" (may have to click on Support, first). Enter either "Tag number" or exact "make and model number." Select the computer operating system (Vista 32 or Vista 64).Look for your exact display adapter, note date and driver version. If newer, download and install. Finally, proceed with the troubleshooting guide.I hope it helps.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/433786/computer-wont-boot-sometimes-without-hard-reset/
After working fine (well mostly) for the last couple of years, my network has been crashing for the last week or so. While connected to the internet, minding their own business, suddenly all 3 of my computers will lose internet access. I've tried everything, including following the instructions received on the D-Link help line (model DI-624), and I can get the system back up for a while, but inevitably it will crash again almost immediately. The only thing that has worked so far is doing a a hard reset (is that what it's called?) where you stick a paper clip into the reset hole and hold for 20 or so seconds.
Question 1: Does this mean my router must be replaced?
Question 2: Could the problem possibly be an adapter card in one of the clients? Would that cause the whole shebang to crash?
Thanks in advance for any assistance. I am so frustrated!
'Could the problem possibly be an adapter card in one of the clients?'
The obvious test is to run only 1, and if it happens, keep alternating one out and another in. If all 3 get the router failure 1 at a time, then the router is toast. If single comp causes the fail, then the comp NIC is bad.
New HP envy x360 Model No. 15-x107ne has a problem of black screen. As I understand this problem can be solve by hard reset. So can anybody tell me the button combinatin to be pressed to get the screen back
Hard reset instructions: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 Not guaranteed to work for you but worth a shot.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/hard-reset-for-black-screen/td-p/5577888
How do you reset it? I bought it one day at FRYS and I put a password and now I forgot that password. Is there anyway to reset it?
I know I'm an idiot and fail at like for forgetting it. ;_;
It's a MAXTOR by the way
Hi pride and Welcome to Vista Forums.
Did you right click the Hard drive and then format it?
The issue started a few weeks ago when it seemed my HDD failed sent it to a shop to be tested and repaired Went through HDDs before the rd actually worked that's the HDD i'm currently using ST DM - CH SCSI Disk Drive It hard reset only locks from and a up responds Pc worked fine up until a few days ago when random screen freezes started to occur mainly when playing online games such as World of Warcraft Each day the game would freeze to the point that the entire system locked up and only a hard reset would work it went from a couple of freezes a day to - a day Pc locks up and only responds from a hard reset The HDD itself showed no signs of failing Pc locks up and only responds from a hard reset or struggling and all drivers are up to date I then ran Memtest on both Rams then each while in the primary slot a combined total of tests all of which passed Then booted up the PC with Ram at a time and it worked fine my next step was to run HDDScan but for some reason it would not allow me to hit the S M A R T button even though it recognised my HDD I must also say that at times the boot up has been extremely slow to the point I thought it froze it seems hit and miss whether it reaches the desktop screen With both RAM in it struggles to fully boot up too Linked the DXDiag file which gives a run down of everything EDIT Finally on the pc with only Ram installed running HDDScan right now and will post a screenshot of the outcome shortly It's just strange that it's able to boot up with each RAM but when both are installed it struggles thing to add is that I contacted World of Warcraft Tech Support as the crashes happened more frequent when playing the game they stated that my network drives were out of date from and my BIOS drivers from yet when I tried to update both I got a quot not compatible quot pop up that was from the manufacturers website Hope this helps
This is the outcome of my HDDScan, I really can't tell whether there's issues or not. Some help appreciated. I'm really starting to think my PSU may be at fault, Atrix 650t 12v but I'm finding very little on reviews or complaints about the product.http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/313881-pc-locks-up-only-responds-hard-reset.html
Greetings on hard reset Accidental router- Help! we recently got a new desktop and Accidental hard reset on router- Help! my nephew configured the wireless DLink router for the desktop and two laptops It was all working fine with our home network connecting with all the computers Then my laptop stopped being connected to the home network I tried rebooting didn t help I read online that I should reset the router- so I pushed on the reset button and reset it Then I learned that was the worst thing I could Accidental hard reset on router- Help! have done-my home network disappeared I think it deleted all the configurations on the router My question now is- can I get it all back Accidental hard reset on router- Help! I am very computer illiterate I do have the CD that came with the router- can I just reinstall it with the CD I see that the home network is still on the computer but it will not show up on the internet access The only way I can connect to the internet is using the DLink internet access but I understand that is not safe So- is there any way to recover all the configurations my nephew put in or must I start from scratch Thank you in advance nbsp
ask your nephew if he saved the settings for you, or try searching your computer for a file named something like this
not sure if DLink save as .conf files but worth a try
I have a pocket pc that I have had for about 7 years now worked great up until about a month ago glitches out everytime I turn it on and use I have taken the battery out and let it set for a few days I have pressed the small pencil tip reset button nothing works I am hoping someone knows how to do like a hard reset I realize I could lose all my stored info thats ok I just need to put in new information with the programs it came with basically I need to set it back to factory default thanks for your help!!
To hard-reset your Pocket PC, hold down the power button and press the reset button at the same time. You will loose any data, backup before attempting.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/hp-ipaq-pocket-pc-hard-reset-588516.html
Sometimes after a power failure, the computer wont reboot from the hard disk. Instead we get a statement which says, and I loosely quote: Boot hardware not found. Insert disc and press F1 or press F2 for setup.
Last night the disc wouldnt let it boot up either. I went to F2 and tried to change the boot from the CDROM to the hard disk, the problem was HARD DISK was not in the window as a selection. Finally after doing some things that now I cant remember, I went back to the same window and low and behold Hard disk is now a part of the selection. The computer then booted from the hard disk, and is now operating fine.
Can someone explain to me what I did to get it working so that when this happens again I have the method of repair at hand. Thanks so much.
You probably clicked on Automatically detect hard drive in the Bios. You should purchase a UPS device to stop your computer corruption from power failures. In time your hardware will be damaged.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/81082/how-to-reset-boot-from-hard-disk/
What is the problem actually? I thought this is virus but when i scan with my AV nothing wrong...
Based on no other information on your computer and your problem, I would say that reset is very likely due to overheat. May be a maintenance cleaning up would help.
Good luck and post back.
New laptop May 2016, with Win 10 x 64 installed. Ran all upgrades. Since purchase, every time I restart, shut down etc, it 'resets' all of the personalized settings, especially annoying is the mouse/touch pad. I have to open settings every single time and select the disable touch pad, and also select the have touchpad icon on task bar. While I'm in this session, all is fine, but a soon as I shut down/restart it goes back to squre one, starting point ever time. It's very annoying. Especially that the icon won't stay on the task bar-I have to go to settings, advanced/more settings...etc. I've updated everything, I've run 'fixes' have tried everything I can think of. Hi all hoping for any assistance as to how to fix or even diagnose reset then fine Solved: after start-up, Freeze and after the problem here This is a bit long and Solved: Freeze after start-up, and then fine after reset I m not sure what s related and what s not My issue is that when I start up in the morning my computer Solved: Freeze after start-up, and then fine after reset will freeze after about - minutes Not BSOD but just simply freezes- and if Solved: Freeze after start-up, and then fine after reset audio happens to be playing at the time the last few seconds will continue looping I have to do a hard reset and after that everything is fine for the rest of the day The freeze occurs regardless of what I m doing I can start up and let it sit on the windows login screen or I can actually log onto my profile and let it sit at my desktop or I can log on and start browsing the internet running applications whatever It will freeze regardless after a short few minutes Then after I do a hard reset it acts totally normally I can run it for hours and regardless of what applications or how much usage vs idle time or whatever I have no problems Then I shut down for the evening and the next morning it happens all over again It only happens once very first start-up Maybe once or twice in the month since this has been happening has it frozen after that first hard reset of the day Very rare I was living with the issue while I tried to figure out what the problem was until yesterday Yesterday after the first start up and then hard reset I got a red warning balloon from Avast paid version saying that my virus definitions had not been updated I clicked the icon from bottom right and opened the program interface and tried to update them manually clicking the quot update now quot button I was not able to update the definitions or the application- it kept telling me quot the package is broken quot I restarted thinking maybe it would toss any temporary version of the broken definitions file and after restart I noticed that now a red quot x quot appeared over the avast icon on the bottom right I clicked it and it said my computer was not protected and to click to fix the problem click a button in the avast window- I guess this was in case I d actually intentionally turned off the software I clicked it and it would not start the program- windows would give me the dialog box asking if I wanted to let avast make changes and I would click yes and then it would pop up again a moment later and I d click yes again but nothing would happen I used malwarebytes and ran a scan and found two infected objects which were successfully deleted and then per avast forums did a full uninstall reinstall and everything seemed ok I then ran malwarebytes again and found nothing and let avast with updated definitions run a full thorough scan of my computer and it found nothing All was fine until this morning This morning it froze this is not quot most of the time quot this is every single day- it seems any time the computer is turned off for more than a few hours and after a hard reset I got the warning again that avast could not update my virus definitions So my big problem is that I have this freeze every single day Smaller problem s are that I think the hard resets are understandably damaging software I don t know if there is a virus or piece of malware or something that is causing the freezes I found a few posts around the web from people having the exact same problem and it was traced back to an audio driver conflict but I am not even sure how to diagnose that for myself here I am running Windows Professional x Core i GB RAM nVidia GTX I m not sure what other information I can provide I am sorry this is so long-winded and I have just made a donation to this forum because you guys have helped me in the past and are awesome and because I feel like a total schmuck not knowing enough about computers to know how to fix this myself Pre-emptive thanks for any assistance... hi.i have just installed a new cpu onto my ep-45gm8i mother board.
when boot up the blackscreen said you have changed your cpu.please go into bios reset, and dont forget to save before exit.or the words to that efect.
i went into bios and loaded optimized defaults, then rebooted.
on restart windows said installing new hardware, then please reboot.
all is fine, but i have installed ram aswell and dont know if i have to changed anything in bios for the new ram or cpu to take efect.
both is showing the update in "system" propities
It sounds as if everything is fine,go to device manager to make sure there everything is installed correctly.I would let your system run for awhile to see if there are any kinks or error messages.
My wife and daughter accidentally deleted my windows 8.1 partition along with all restore points on my hard drive. So after a long time with help from a mod on this website, it was decided a factory reset was in order. I did the factory reset, i loaded windows 8, I went ahead removing factory installed mcafee, when it came time to restart i did so. On the immediate boot up my system will not load. The screen goes between flashing light and dark black. Any ideas of what this could be? I am able to get into the BiOS screen but do not know what to select.
I have a Dell Inspiron 660 moved into a after market case. the entire system was working smooth until this all happened with the windows 8.1 being deleted. I just bought this system 6 months ago and am really hoping I dont have to buy a new one. any help is most appreciated.
Have you tried booting from the install disk and doing a startup repair?
Quote One of the changes of Windows is a new start menu that Microsoft integrated into the operating system Designed to please desktop users without dropping the idea of apps and features of the start screen completely it is a balancing act that brings the old and the new menu How start backup or reset in 10 Windows the to together in a single interface The core feature addition of the new start menu is that live tiles can be displayed in it now on the right side While the left remained nearly unchanged the right is featuring a selection of apps and their live tiles when you first boot into the system after installation or on first start It is possible to modify the selection here This ranges from removing all live tiles to remove them from the desktop completely to adding moving and removing select apps from the interface While the customization options are useful it needs to be noted that the Windows Preview does not ship with options to reset the layout or restore it The system's reset How to backup or reset the start menu in Windows 10 or refresh feature may do the trick but these options have other consequences and should not be first choice because of this How to backup or reset the start menu in Windows 10 How to backup or reset the start menu in Windows - gHacks Tech Newshttp://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f338/how-to-backup-or-reset-the-start-menu-in-windows-10-a-905362.html

I have had two incidents in the past three days of a startup problem with a relatively new Win Pro SP build that uses UEFI Last Friday I did my weekly clone of C SSD to another SATA drive using True Image WD Edition and as usual checked the box that said to shut the computer down after completion When I restarted I immediately powered down the cloned drive starts Win7 reset then after start, fails to in a mobil rack I walked away briefly and came back to see the computer powered on but the two monitors black and in standby mode No mouse movement or keyboard activity would wake the monitors or produce any other response I hit the reset switch and Win7 fails to start, then starts after reset it booted to a B amp W DOS-like quot Windows Error Recovery quot Win7 fails to start, then starts after reset screen that said quot Windows failed to start A recent hardware of software change might be the cause quot which gave me two options to run the startup repair via the install CD or start Win normally I selected the latter and it booted fine and has worked well until this morning with several successful boots in the interim Today I had the same issue during my morning boot but like before I did not watch the boot process and came back to two unresponsive black monitors As before a hard reset got things working again after the same B amp W quot Windows Error Recovery quot screen I tried to duplicate the issue by doing a restart and then a shutdown with my normal restart with the power button and all worked fine for both tries I did some searching and found many reports of this issue but all that I saw were systems that would not boot at all not the intermittent problem that I have None that I saw said that doing the startup repair first option on the B amp W screen worked so I have not tried that The only updates I've gotten recently were one for Adobe Reader and three definition updates for MSE The last system update was five days prior to the first incident and there have been no other software or hardware changes recently Event Viewer shows nothing except during the second boot which produces the B amp W quot Windows did not start quot screen It is an Event quot The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first This error could be caused if the system stopped responding crashed or lost power unexpectedly quot I also see no Memory dmp file in the Windows folder I have not watched this procedure unfold which I will try to witness for future boot events Right now I'd appreciate any ideas
I would use backup imaging instead of cloning which can adversely affect Disk Mgmt settings if not closely monitored.

Hi, I have faced a problem then my laptop setting keep reset after i turned off for a night and on back. For example, the battery "conservation mode" i set to ON before i off it and somehow, when i turn on the laptop, the battery continue charging till 100% instead stop at 60%(conservation mode). So i open "lenovo setting" and check, the conservation mode is in ON position but battery still keep charging till 100%. So i need to slide to off and again slide it On to activate back the mode. Could this application error? or what?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Lenovo-Setting-keep-reset-after-every-window-start-up/td-p/3310776

Can you order recovery disks from the manufacturer ?
EDIT--- After you get it fixed, it would be a good idea to get Macrium Reflect.
Either the free or paid Standard version & make system images so you can restore your computer that way.
I bought the paid version & consider the money well spent.
