HDMI to Displayport video issue

Q: HDMI to Displayport video issue

I am trying to connect the HDMI port on my nVidia GeForce GT 640 video card to the DisplayPort input on my HP Compaq L2206tm monitor. This is the reverse of what is expected by cable fabricators who have lots of cables and adapters for the opposite configuration, i.e., DP on the videocard and HDMI input on the monitor. There seems to be a uni-directional vs bi-directional issue involved with DP, but I don't quite understand it. Anyway, the uni-directional choices I am seeing are in the wrong direction. Anybody dealt with this and what is your advice for me?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are there any adapters to do this or ways to do this? I can't seem to find any.

I am buying new monitors, the dell u2414h. Now, while this does have hdmi, I will be connecting multiple monitors together to extend the display from the laptop to give me multiple screens. The problem with this is that it only works if you use displayport and not hdmi, so I need a way to convert the hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

I will primarily be using these monitors with my laptop that has displayport, so that is why I am getting these monitors and that won't be a problem. I will most likely hook up other laptops to the monitors and hdmi is way more common from what I have seen on laptops than displayport and is why I need a way to go from hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

Any ideas? Thanks.

You can't, HDMI does not support daisy chaining in the manner that DisplayPort does and you can't use a simply adapter to go from HDMI to DisplayPort and get the features of DisplayPort.

I replaced my monitor with a Dell that has VGA, DVI and DisplayPort. My PC outputs VGA or HDMI, so I'm using an HDMI to DVI cable(previous monitor is VGA and DVI only). My only gripe with this cable is that the DVI end is hard to attach/remove. I can get HDMI-DisplayPort cables or adapters, this would be so much easier to deal with than trying to screw that DVI cable in place, but I need to know if outputting HDMI into the DisplayPort is going to cause any issues with picture quality.

I see either dedicated cables or converter boxes on eBay, converter box would be cheaper and I can use whatever HDMI cable I have on hand.

Hello & welcome to sevenforums,

What's about duplicate the laptop screen over the Hdmi cable in the Windows 7 display settings, not your video card drivers?
So the laptop will be overscan, but not the digital TV that will have the full screen without any black borders or cutted edges.

But looks the duplicate display will stay at 1366x768 / 60hertz, 32bits colors.

Hi, I just installed my windows 7 (64x) again (after formatting the hard-drive) but now I have a problem with the audio from displayport to hdmi. I can't transfer the voice from laptop to TV anymore. I checked almost everything. Disabled the video and audio cards, set the AMD HDMI output as a default device or even disabled the rest but nothing worked so far. My display: AMD mobility radeon HD 5000 Any suggestions?

Hi @sasan79, Thank you for your inquiry. I grasp that you have formatted the drive and reinstalled Windows 7, but now you do not have audio on the TV.  Previously it was working fine. Have you done all your Windows updates?  Have you run the HP Support Assistant?  Have you run the Windows troubleshooter? Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting HDMI Display and Sound Issues that may also help. Please let me know the results. Please let me know if this resolves the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution".  To simply say thanks, click the ?Thumbs Up? below!    If you require further assistance let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help.

On my ThinkCentre M92p which has Windows 7 pro installed I am using a standard monitor from the onboard VGA.
But now I want to run a 2nd display to my LCD TV. So I have a new cable into the onboard displayport and the other end is HDMI into my TV. Nothing showed on the TV (no signal). So I went to the display settings and click on Detect but (Another display not detected) came up. Then I went into BIOS and set up the video to Multiple Displays. Still No Signal.
As far as I know I have the correct drivers for this model from the support downloads. Driver (b2vdo41us14.exe)
I am hope now someone can guide me through what I am doing wrong. And be thankful for any input.

I'm trying to run audio to a stereo receiver over an HDMI cable attached to my computer (T420s) through a DP to HDMI adapter. I've tried installing the Intel Graphics Driver listed on Lenovo's site, hoping it might install the Intel Display Audio driver. It did not seem to. I still have to Intel audio in the device manager. Hi gang,

I have a asus z87pro mobo. i currently have a dsub monitor and dvi monitor plugged into the appropriate ports and both monitors display independent desktops under win7 64bit quite nicely.

My specific question is:

which adapters would allow me to connect 2 additional dsub 1900*1200 monitors to both the hdmi socket and the displayport socket, so that i run a total of four monitors.

I have seen this :
PC HDMI to VGA SVGA RGB HDTV Video Cable Converter Adapter PS3 XBOX 360 Apple TV | eBay

and this
Display Port Male to SVGA/ VGA Female Adapter Convertor Changer Cable Lead Wire | eBay

But i am unsure whether they would both allow me to run a further 3rd and 4th connected pair of dsub monitors.

Can you advise?

I own an HP 8440p with the NVS3100 graphics card. I have tried all suggestions regarding getting the DisplayPort to pass audio through a DP-to-HDMI adapter with no success. I have even tried purchasing multiple adapters in the hopes of findingone that worked, even HP's own pricey adapter.  Can I conclude that it is now settled that the HP 8440p with the discreet NVS3100 (not the integraed Intel Graphics) simply cannot be made to pass audio from the DisplayPort to to an HDMI adpter? If the answer is that it cannot then I will start shopping for a new laptop with a native HDMI and not the troublesome DisplayPort. Thanx, Redlyne

Hello. We have connected a HP 8200 Elite to our Samsung TV with a displayport to hdmi converter 1 year ago, and it worked well. A week ago we bought a new TV table and after reconnecting the HP 8200 to our Samsung TV we get no signal to the TV.Yesterday I tested to connect a HP monitor with displayport to the HP 8200 with a displayport cable, and it did work.Today I was and switched the displayport to hdmi converter at the Kjell & CO reseller, BUT WE STILL GET NO SIGNAL TO THE SAMSUNG TV. I have connected a monitor with the RGB contact / cable, and have tested to change the display settings to make it work, BUT WITH NO SUCCESS. Could a straight displayport to hdmi cable solve the problem? Regards Roger

right click on the mouse and go to the Nvidia control panel. have it set up with the HDMI, and try to make sure all settings are right. you can also set the overall graphics to be set to performance, Quality. or balance. With Vista, I ran the video with a DVI cable and audio with an SPDIF optical cable to a converter box that changed it to HDMI then ran it into my amp (Onkyo TX-NA906X) into my HDTV (Pioneer Kuro PDP-6010HD). Originally, I had to add a 1920x0180 res but it did work. Once I updated to Win7, it will not display any video beyond the initial startup screen (no HDCP???) so I can't see the login screen. Any ideas would be appreciated.

For reference: the DVI/SPDIF -> HDMI converter: DVI + Audio (SPDIF & Toslink) to HDMI Converter Adapter: Electronics

Contrary to what the review says, I did get it to display 1920x1080 in Vista.

A:Having issues w/ Triple Monitor Setup (DisplayPort issue?)

I run a triple monitor setup on my desktop PC. 2 DVI and one HDMI on my GT 640. The one using HDMI goes as follows Mini HDMI on video card to normal HDMI to HDMI to DVI adapter. What I notice is regardless of which monitor is set as primary my BIOS POST screen and the initial Windows Boot screen always shows on the same monitor on one of the DVI ports. The video card determines what monitor the POST screen shows on. For me it depends on how many monitors I have plugged in and what ports they use. I have never seen it where it didn't show. The logon screen then shows on my Primary monitor. I don't use sleep or hibernate so I can't help you with that. Why you don't see your POST screen I don't know, I have seen other people report the same thing though. I don't remember if they found out why though.

I have a hp-g60-235dx running 32bit vista, the video card is the intel express 4 family chipset. The problem I am having is I had signal going from my laptop to my tv. but there was no picture. I looked up the problem and tried several solutions 1 at a time, and the last solution I tried (updating the video card driver) somehow turned off the hdmi port. I do not have the option of rolling back the driver, what suggestions do you have to get me back to where I atleast have signal from lap top to tv. any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. I want to use our 4 year old Sony TV as a monitor for our computer.
2. we have a newer computer that has a HDMI slot.
3. our Sony TV is older and only has a S video slot (no HDMI slot).
4. Can you get a cable to go from HDMI to S video?
5. I heard HDMI is digital and Svideo is analog, but our TV is not analog as far as I know It's digital.
6. any help is appreciated!!!

A:Going from HDMI to S Video ???

They are very different formats and would need a converter. Though I haven't seen HDMI to S-Video, I have seen them in the other direction, S-Video to HDMI, and they cost around $200. You'd be better off with a new TV. Most TV's make very poor monitors, anyway, and resolution is not good. But, depends on the TV.

What other outputs on the computer?

Have you thought of the fact that the GFX card cant do 3 things at once.

Have you tried this way,

1, Plug in the monitor 1st.
2, Plug in the HDMI
3, Set the sound too HDMI.

Funny I know but it might just work.

Hi, I have a new HP laptop, dv7-6175, about 2 months old and a new Rocketfish HDMI cable, about 1 month old. The cable just stopped working, won't stream Netflix to my Samsung HD tv. I hooked up the cable to my older laptop and it works- streams Netflix to my tv. It had been working previously on my new laptop, but then the picture on the laptop began to flicker off and come back on periodically when we were watching Netflix. Yesterday the computer shut down, and when it was re-booted no more streaming at all! I don't know if the cable is bad or if it's the port on the computer. I am able to do everything else on the computer, internet, etc. Thanks! Any help would be appreciated.

its unlikely to be the cable

have you downloaded the latest video driver from the HP support site
if you goto desktop area and right click - personalise - display
you may have some control there for HDMI under advance setting - depends on the video adapter you have on the PC

Device Manager
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

Display adapter click on the + > post back the devices listed there

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here

check the system volume and the volume in the media player you have chosen,

I'd suggest updating your drivers. It's possible that there's an update that might help you. It doesn't sound like a huge issue so explore drivers, and update the motherboard BIOS. Make sure that you research it prevalently first because BIOS upgrades are dangerous.

AMD 64 3700+ with ATI Radeon HD 4670
A HDTV Samsung 40" LE40A656 as my computer display
The TV connected to my PCs using XP or Vista work fine (1920x1080) through the VGA cable but via HDMI the text is fringing and image quality is poor. No big deal, I just use the VGA cable.

ISSUE: Since I updated my HP from Vista to Windows 7 RC the TV can't display the PC at all - "mode not supported". It works with the HDMI cable though but the quality is as poor (I can barely work on it) as it is on XP or Vista.

Is there a fix? Should I wait for an update of 7 RC or do I need to reinstall Vista?

A:HDMI issue on Qosmio F60-111

Not quite sure what?s wrong here but I think you should firstly go to BIOS and should set it to default (F9). Save the changes and reboot the unit.

Additionally you can remove the battery and Ac adaptor for a while and should press and hold the power button 30 sec long. Then connect both parts and power up the unit.

I think notebook?s HDMI port is OK because the Qosmio splash screen was visible on the TV. So possibly its just an system (Windows) issue.

You are right, the FN + F5 switches between the internal and external display so the usage of this key combination should enable the screen on LG TV.

Try also to set the sound to HDMI as default. To set the audio device for using HDMI, follow the steps bellow:
1. Click Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Hardware and Sound
5. Sound /Digital Output Device (HDMI)
6. Click the Set Default Button

If you will not be able to enable the HDMI, i recommend system recovery

Well, now this is interesting. I bought a hp g62 laptop and the screen started to flicker after about two months. What some of the forums said was that it was a cable issue and the screws needed to be tightened.

But if what you're saying is true, it's a video card issue or a driver issue.

A:No sound using HDMI video.

If you're running straight from the PC and not using HDMI on the PC side or the HDMI is not integrated with the sound on the PC side, you want to be using analog audio out to the HD tv. Also if you're using Vista, its really particular about audio so you may have to fuss with it and then fuss with it some more (there may be more than one audio layer to set correctly) to get it to work.

The best bet is to use the speaker line out to get it working and then move to line out or whatever.

A:No sound, no video via HDMI

The system (Video) is not seeing the HDMI cable plugged in. That could be a fault on the motherboard, a fault in the CPU's video section or reinstalling the Intel video drivers may fix it.

I had a problem with onboard video on a Gigabyte motherboard. It had DVI and VGA connectors for on-board video from the Intel CPU. The DVI port died on the motherboard and I had to use a separate Video card (which wasn't a bad thing as I got much better video from a separate video card - my Windows video experience jumped from 3.2 to 7).

I am planning to gradually integrate video-out from several devices (BluRay, DirecTV audio/video, Blockbuster set top box) on one A/V monitor, and feel that HDMI is part of the solution. Am I thinking right?

If i use Windows Vista Media Center, and if i can accomplish this A/V integration via HDMI, how would I assign an A/V feed to different windows so that i can toggle among them?

A:which computer uses HDMI for video

Many newer computers have HDMI.
Most machines with a Blu-ray drive will have HDMI - I have two Sony VAIO laptops with HDMI.

Several video cards also have HDMI now and can be used on existing machines for Blu-ray if they meet the minimum requirements.

Dunno if I even have this in the right secction but here it goes I just purchased a PS and a LG quot LCD P TV Right now I am just using the standard A V cables Sony provided with the system and the picture just looks amazing I was wondering if I will see a difference if I upgrade to HDMI Cable which would replace my standard A V Is t worth it Yes I am the kind of person that does appreciate and like to S-Video?? A/V, Component HDMI, squeeze out even the smallest improvement but is it worth the - dollars HDMI, Component A/V, S-Video?? going by Best Buy s prices Also can someone clear this up for me It s to my understanding that HDMI is the best connection Then comes Component A V then S-Video then standard A V Am I correct in thinking this or do I jsut have it all mixed up Is there even a noticeable difference between them say between the Component A V and the HDMI Thanks in advance nbsp

A:HDMI video, no audio

After fiddling around for several more hours, I found a solution.

Open up the nvidia control panel, and go to resolutions.

For my TV, it listed two sets of resolutions for my Samsung: HDTV and monitor. It was using a monitor resolution, so I set it to one of the HDTV ones, and the audio started coming through.

Glad I figured that one out. Hope anyone with the same problem finds this.

To enable issue of ATI Detection HDMI Hardware movie viewing on quot LCD TV This is a pain in the rear for me but it is the only way to get the HDMI audio recognized as a valid option in Audio Playback devices Video always works but the audio is says not connected To get the HDMI Audio detected I have to First - On my TV I ATI HDMI Detection of Hardware issue have to select the HDMI channel that is connected to my PC Second - I have to un-plug and plug-in the HDMI cable I can hear the Windows found hardware sound Third - Now I can select HDMI as my default audio device everything works great I usually have to repeat this process any time the PC or TV gets shut off I am worried about wearing out the HDMI port ATI HDMI Detection of Hardware issue by plugging and un lugging so often This can't possibly be the way it is supposed to work This is not an intermittant issue - it is a matter of the ATI HDMI detecting ATI HDMI Detection of Hardware issue the audio connection and is very repeatable and consistant All drivers ATI and VIA audio are the latest to date as of today Maybe it is the Plug amp Play component - TV has to be on when turning on the PC or I have to manually force the detection process as above Video ATI MOBO ASUS P P D-E LX

A:ATI HDMI Detection of Hardware issue

I have read many post on this issue and First of all yes the TV must be on at all times on the HDMI signal if you don't want the signal broken don't turn the tv off use you're power saving feature

Let windows turn the monitor off for you that way simple mouse movement will bring back the screen also you should be able to right click and disable onboard then enable the HDMI sound by right clicking

I might add using power saving feature is the only way to keep from breaking the HDMI connection also i don't advise any heibernation or sleep mode because that will just break the signal the best thing to do is let windows turn the monitor off but do not put your machine in sleep mode or any other power save featurn just treat your tv as a monitor

I find this the only and best way to work the ati cards and yes you keep unplugging and plugging the HDMI cable something is bound to go wrong eventually

Hi Everyone,

I recently bought a new laptop 'advent roma 3001' and have came across the issue of when connected via hdmi to my tv it doesnt show full screen, after searching I have realised this is an under/overscan issue however the graphics card is intergrated so im not sure how to access these settings?

Does anyone know how I would fix this?

Any help would be great, thanks.

A:HDMI Full screen issue.

Is this an intel integrated graphics card? If so, this is the guide I used.
Custom Resolutions on Intel Graphics - Intel® Software Network

After I figured out the DTD, I just changed it in the registry instead of in the driver, as that method might not work anyway. You need to read the majority of that article to understand what its asking you to do. Good luck.

I recently bought a 720p Sony Bravia TV. My laptop is a ASUS M50Sseries with HD capabilities. I wanted to watch a movie from my laptop on my TV So I plugged the HDMI cord in from the laptop to the TV and it adjusted the resolution and the brightness of my laptop. (On a separate note, I couldn't get the sound to work on the TV either) So, once I got done I un plugged my laptop and it adjusted my resolution but my brightness didn't change back. I have tried to adjust both software brightness and hardware brightness. The software actually does change but not enough to matter and the hardware adjustment does nothing, up or down. HELP PLEASE!

Hi guys,
I recently decided to buy a new graphic card and go with Gigabyte Radeon HD 5850, but as I was going to purchase it, I stumbled accros the very same graphic card that was like 20 dollars more expensive but was called: GIGABYTE HD5850 1GB (256) aktiv 2xDVI HDMI DDR5 (instead of simply: GIGABYTE VGA ATI Radeon HD5850 1GB DDR5).
Now, I don't understand the difference really here. The first one has aditional DVI port right ? but there shouldnt be a difference in performance.. ? Since I'm no expert, I don't know what if I should buy the more expensive one since I dont know what would I use it for (I mean the advantage)...
thanks for any help !

Using my Toshiba Satellite C75D-B200 (Part Number: PSCLEU-006004 , Serial No.:7E090804U) Windows 8.1 laptop, I tried connecting it via an HDMI cable to my HDMI TV. The display runs through the TV perfectly, except for audio. I've checked the playback devices window in sound settings, but no HDMI output is present. Any suggestions that can allow me to have the audio come in through the TV and not my computer would be great. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. (I hope this isn't the wrong board to post in, considering my audio-related issue)

Hi all,

I got my Win10 updated from Win8.1 about 4 months ago.

Recently, to be exact about 1 months ago I've started getting the blurred font issue referred as DPI.

I can confirm the problem only persists when I connect or disconnect my external screen.

When you boot into Windows 10 there are no issues at all, however as soon as you connect your computer to the external Screen that screen would get blurred fonts in certain applications such as Excel, Viber, Word etc.

If I logout and login back with my screen still being disconnected - the problem fixes itself.

Exact same issue is observed when you disconnect the screen: it required another logout/login to fix the fonts.

I've tried XP Explorer but it would not help in my situation.

I usually have 125% zoom for my DPI setting.

I am using a Radeon 4850 with a Samsung LN32A650 HDTV @ 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz. Wind 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I have used both HDMI and VGA to connect using 9.1 CCC drivers as well as 8.9 CCC

VGA has excellent quality but does not work with 9.1 drivers

HDMI using both sets of drivers have text which has color fringing and in general, much inferior quality.

Can anybody point me to a solution for this.

I have tried the following:

Different HDMI cables
Different HDTV - Pioneer Elite 60"

I do not think this is a purely Windows 7 issue but I am hoping somebody may have a solution.

A quick Google came up with people reporting same problems with samsung TVs. Are you connecting directly to the TV using HDMI? I have a different TV and card using latest Cats but I pass-through a Yamaha HTR6230B do you have a HDMI capable receiver you could pass-through?

I will test by connecting straight to TV and check the image quality...

Hey guys! I want to connect my samsung 30 inch HDTV to my Toshiba Satellite L505. And i found two kinds of usb video display adapter: one is no brand usb to dvi hdmi vga adapter and another is SewellDirect Minideck USB to DVI Multi Display adapter. I don't know if my 30 inch tv can be compatible with FULL 1080P movies. Here is those two adapters:
USB to HDMI Adapter-USB 2.0 to DVI/VGA/HDMI Multi-Display Adapter
Sewell Minideck USB to DVI, VGA and HDMI Display Adapter - SW-22857, $99.95

Any suggestions will be appreciated! thanks

The Sewell one supports more resolutions, so get that one.
The no-name one doesn't have 1280x720 listed in its specs, which is what non-1080P TV's use.

With Windows XP SP I was able to transmit audio which was digital and sometimes multi-channel to my Denon reciever through the HDMI output Video allow Audio won't Onboard & HDMI HD on my motherboard I was also able to simultaneoulsy display my computer through that same HDMI connection through Onboard HDMI won't allow HD Audio & Video my Denon reciever and on to my my Toshibe LCD TV But when I installed Windows Ultimate bit the HDMI audio was very limited only bit -channel Hz and can only select it when the reciever is on which makes sense but it's anoying to have to go into sound properties and switch to HDMI if I started the computer before the reciever I hate technology trying to pretend it knows what I want it to do it should just be able to do what it's told Then when I turn on the TV this message comes up which I would see when I was using XP but it didn't change anything An HDMI-to-DVI display connection has been detected In order to hear audio on your HDMI based TV or display you will need to have a seperate audio conecction from you computer sound outputs to your TV or audio equipment However I'm not using the DVI Onboard HDMI won't allow HD Audio & Video at all I just want to use the HDMI into HDMI because that's the way it's supposed to work because HDMI is supposed to handle both and I shouldn't need to use another cord when I'm already using one that does both And so then my sound no longer works but my computer Onboard HDMI won't allow HD Audio & Video shows on my TV Whoopdee doo why can't I have both HDMI is supposed to support both and when computer motherboard OS manufacturers put these technologies on computers you'd think they should commit to applying them flawlessly the way they were intended to be used I understand this may be a driver issue and I've tried many combinations of the newest amp the just HDMI Realtek Driver as well as the Gigabyte mother board drivers and the appropriate ATI Catalyst driver downloads It's confusing and tiresome Any advice please Thanks

Hi Guys. I have a gateway sx2802 desktop with a HDMI out port which I am trying to utilize. However, I simply cannot get any type of response when hooking it up to my HDTV through the HDMI port. I tried updating my video driver, pressing Win+p and changing to extend, but it doesnt work, it always reverts back to PC only. The PC works fine and I dont think there is anything wrong with it. I dont seem to able to find any help on gateways site either. I know this is a low end PC but what Im trying to do should work, shouldn't it? Thanks
