Z510 battery will not charge - plugged in not char...

Q: Z510 battery will not charge - plugged in not char...

My z510 shows that plugged in, not charging.I tried to reinstall energy manger and to update the battery firmware. Also tried to uninstall Microsoft APCI but with battery, for some reason my notebook doesn't boot without battery. The only way it can charge is when I change to conservation mode and then back. But also works for some time and then stops charging. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Dell has been acting up pretty recently (6 months old and still under warranty), and the battery does not charge past 80%. Once it get's near the 80% charge, it immediately fills up to 100%.

I've remembered using the laptop for more than 6 hours under moderate use but now it barely lasts 2 hours.

Please give me some advice because I'm really dependent on this laptop.

Hi, everyone - I have a dell e4300 - actually I have three. On one, when it is plugged in to charge, the blue light that indicates that it is plugged in and charging, which normally would be blue continuously, is blinking, or oscillatiing, off and on.

I bent the pin on the inside of the cord slightly in order to maybe get a better contact, and bent the barrel slightly for same reason - the blinking is the same.

So, it does not quite seem like this is a weak, variable connection. Also, I get the same thing with another charger cable. Does this mean something?

A:Dell e4300 blue light charge indicator blinking

Well ,the more I look at this, the less regular it seems, but it does come on momentarily every several seconds. It sure is not charged up, despite being plugged in for over 24 hours.

I've been having an issue which started this morning. The previous night, I forgot to plug in my Dell Inspiron N5050 after using it. I woke up to find that my battery had died (obviously). I plugged in the laptop, running Windows 7 HE 64 bit, and turned it on. It booted normally and I was able to do all of my tasks as needed. Then I noticed my problem. The battery icon down on the taskbar showed that the device was plugged in, but was not charging. It has stayed at a constant 2% charge for more than 24 hours now. The Battery Meter stated that my battery is performing normally, so I ruled the battery out as the cause. The adapter I am using is the default one that came with the laptop when I bought it, and it appears to be functioning normally as well. What could be the cause of this incident, and what can I do to fix it?

A:Battery Stated as "Plugged in, Not Charging"

Most likely you have a bad battery. Dell has had whole series of batteries that they shipped out in a not fully functional state. I have an HP laptop (about 8 years old now) that the battery took a "steamy one" and it will no longer charge properly. You can try this trick (it may not work, but worth a try because did work for me a couple times): power down laptop and take the battery out for 30 minutes; replace battery and plug in charger but do not power on; wait 4 hours of charge and power on. I had it work a couple times that it gave a full 100% charge. Again, if it doesn't work then sorry, but at least you tried.

I'm a new Plusnet customer and I cannot connect to the internet using wifi I just get a page saying the broadband is down. So I tried using an ethernet cable and after manually setting this up I can use the internet. I accidentally disconnected the cable yesterday but the internet didn't fault, it's now working wirelessly. I can connect to the wifi using my mobile and iPad but I cannot connect to the internet. A new router has been sent and the problem still persists, a bt engineer has also visited but cannot find a solution.

Can anybody please help me?

A:I can't connect to wifi but connect with an Ethernet cable works, even when it isn't plugged in

It gets confusing as to which device is being used so as a guideline
disable one or the other (wifi vs wired) and don't allow both to be active at the same time. Technically, which ever device gets an IP address from your router will become the gateway to your ISP - - ignoring the connectivity of the second device to access your router.

With a laptop, we just toggle the keyboard to enable/disable wifi and the wired is easy - - just pull the cable out.

create a desktop shortcut to \windows\system32\devmgmt.msc
to control the devices (needs admin access)
expand [+] network adapters and you'll see the list
mine are

Dell Wireless 1502 ....
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
Just right-click->disable and you can always right-click->enable

The png posted shows both are enabled and the wired has the gateway.
If the cable is disconnected, this is quite impossible.

SO, first control which device is to be used and then make the connection.

Hi you all!

I have an Asus Laptop, last generation i7, 8gb... almost nice. Code: N550LF

Problem: I have to work all day with my laptop, with graphic software and so on.
Almost 10/12 hours or more per day. In my old Dell (I had it for 5 years) I changed for this reason the battery every year.
It is extremely important for my work, even if not everyone cares about battery.

Requested solution: what can I do to preserve (as much as possible) the battery?

What others said: A friend of mine told me to always plug in the computer, because the computer doesn't charge the battery when it is full. In this way I can preserve the battery.
The Asus website doesn't give any advice about it.
The official support by mail told me to not plug the battery when it is 100% charged. This could be dangerous. So, no way to preserve it.

And in your opinion?

Thank you in advance

A:Battery advice

Batteries these days like to stay between 20% and 90% charge.
Leaving the laptop/device plugged in when it reaches 100% does no damage, as most devices have an automatic charge cut-off. So you won't over-charge your batteries.
The problem is, that you're keeping the battery between 98-100% charge all the time, when this is not a sweet spot for the battery at all. It will degrade very slightly faster.
Therefore, in order to keep maximum battery life, keep battery between 20-90% charge.

Well, my HP laptop charger is not working so I tried to charge with a Dell charger I had and it worked.

Now reading in the internet, I read that it might be dangerous especially since I am using less amps than specified. The specs of the 2 chargers are as follows:

HP Charger: 19 V, 4.74 A
Dell Charger: 19.5 V, 4.62 A

I read that the voltage difference should not cause a problem but using a lower Amp capacity charger than the original might. Will this small difference matter or can I still use the charger?

Thanks

Hi,

I have been trying to find a replacement battery for my HP G70 laptop. On the old battery it says to replace with battery 485041-003 but there doesn't seem to be any HP batteries and the names on the batteries and, indeed, the companies who are selling them, are companies that I have never heard of. I have looked at the reviews for most of them and there are mixed renews but a lot saying the batteries do not last as long as the old one. Given that anyone can set up a ficticious company and call it co.uk, which company in the UK do you recommend?

I just installed a GTX 760 into my computer which previously had an AMD card. After I installed the card, my Realtek HD Audio Manager decided to stop working.

When I plug audio devices in, it no longer has a window pop up alerting me that I've plugged something in. After opening Realtek HD I saw that nothing plugged in was being detected, except for DIGITAL. Picture below is what I see.

In Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound, it says nothing is plugged in in both Playback and Recording except Realtek Digital Output. I can't set anything as default because it is greyed out.

I've tried restarting, reinstalling the drivers(via Device Manager), a system restore to when it was working, nothing has worked so far.
I'm running Windows 7.

Wondering what is wrong? Sound was working fine before I installed the card.

I have an Acer laptop I bought last January Wear? A:Minimize Battery Wear?

If your laptop allows you to, some laptops have an option to confine the battery to between 20% and 85% or something. That'll reduce wear if you can enable that. It'll also help if you manually do that as well.

Li-Ion/LiPo "wear" is well documented and the causes are well known for consumer chemistries.
Storing at high temperatures will increase degradation.
Storing at 4.2v/cell (fully charged) will increase degradation.
Keeping it below ~3.0v/cell (discharged) will degrade it.

So, in general, spend as little time as possible depleted or fully charged. If you fully charge it before leaving for the day, then start using it within a few hours, the wear is very minimal so you shouldn't worry about fully charging it if you're planning on using it soon, just don't store it for long periods fully charged.
Likewise if you leave it fully depleted for a long while, that will also accelerate wear.

If you need to store it, 40% charge (3.85v/cell) is commonly recommended but there is very little difference between storing it between 20% and 80% charge. Again the only times that storage can heavily degrade the battery is if it's fully charged (4.2v) or fully discharged (<3.3v resting)

A:Looking for "techie" ways to extend battery life

Removing the HDD and booting from a flash drive is probably the worst decision you can make. Flash drives have very slow speeds (even though they are flash memory, they arent fast) and very little capacity. Keep the HDD.

There are only a few more ways to improve battery life other than dimming your screen and adjusting the power usage settings. Under-clocking the CPU is really done by the "power saving" mode.

Try these suggestions:
1) Run this tool: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_battery_power_settings
2) Turn of your network adapter. There is usually a switch on the side of the PC that toggles the network adapter on and off. That will save you a ton of power. Also make sure bluetooth is off. I dont think your older PC will have it, but just make sure.
3) Use this tool to remove any unnecessary processes from start up. This will speed up your computer while also reducing the amount of processes that run (thus reducing CPU and RAM usage).

I can suggest other options, I just need your OS. If it is Windows 7, it is easy too, if it is XP, I cant really help there since I forgot the OS.

Hi,

my laptop is a packard bell dot (same as the acer aspire one zg5) equipped with a hannstar j mv-4 94v, I disassembled it to fix a wireless module problem, then when I assembled it back and put on the battery the power and charge leds flash for a second and nothing happens when I try to power it on.
same reaction happens when I plug on the power supply or put on the battery.
even the battery doesn't seem to charge anymore (its indicator just flashes for a second as I said)

here's a video:

any help or suggestion?

Thanks,

A:Dead netbook except leds flash once when power supply plugged

One of the ribbon cables may not be securely connected. Them things are a pain to deal with.

If you hadn't previously worked on it, I was going to suggest the power supply may have gone bad. Since you worked on it and that is when the problem started, its been my experience the problem is nearly always workers error.

Hi;
I have a 11yr old Dell Inspiron 8100 Notebook computer. It started shutting down mysteriously while working, and sometimes shuts down a second or two after powering on.
I was planning to scrap the thing, maybe try to sell it for parts on Ebay, but decided to take one more look.
Today I found that the CMOS battery (reserve battery) is bad. It is leaking but has not damaged anything.
Could the fact that this battery is bad (maybe shorted) cause the computer to shut down as I described?
Since I have the whole thing dis-assembled I can replace the battery easily. I found them on Ebay but not sure I should buy one there, since it could be an old battery that is no good.
Any ideas?

Thanks

FW

The CPU cooling fan may be worn out and the thermal pads and paste may be seriously burned and dried out. I doubt if the laptop parts would be worth much because of the age...

How old is the HP? If its been a few years since you bought it, you might try re calibrating the battery from the BIOS, most HP and Gateway computers have a utility inside the BIOS for calibrating the battery. If not, let me know and I'll see if I can find one.

Hi friends

Mine PC is running on a AMD quardracore, Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H, 4 GB DDR III 1600 Mhz Corsair Ram & Power supply along with 8400 GT nvidia . This PC has been OC to 3.2 ghz and is currently working at 3.2 ghz.

Recently I was getting BIOS notification to change the battery as everytime the BIOS had to be reset.

I changed the battery 3 days back but again after a day I again started getting the same notification of changing the battery.

Pls tell where could be the problem.

Regards

A:CMOS battery problem

Was the battery you replaced the bad one with brand new? Also make sure it is a 3V battery and to be safe, make sure it has the markings 'CR2032" on it (that is what mine has). Other batteries of the same size and voltage MAY be fine, but I can't really vouch for them. Also, if you have one, it might pay to check the batteries voltage with a multimeter.

Also, if you buy a new one, it might pay to make sure that it is meant for a computers motherboard, as some may or may not be, just to be on the safe side. I don't really know a great deal about these batteries.

I recently purchased an Asus N56V Series laptop. The laptop has impressive specs, including an i7 Core and a Nvidia GT 635M graphics adaptor, so I can understand it having a below average battery life. However, I am only getting 1 to 2 hours of battery life on it, even when I am not running processor and graphic intensive programs. Product review indicate that will battery life for this laptop is below average, the battery should still last 4 hours under normal conditions.

Is there any reason why my battery life is so limited? Has anyone else had similar problems with this model of laptop?

Thanks for the help.

I can then put the battery back in but it makes no difference after that. The battery is completely dead. Does anyone know if this is a common problem with a bad battery or what. Weird problem that I can't seem to find any info on despite being resourceful with Google.

For awhile now, my PC wants to be plugged in. It will work on battery for browsing or light app work, but if I'm doing something CPU intensive it lets me know right away that just being on battery will not do, and performance breaks down to the point that sometimes it crashes my prog.

I've looked at my performance settings, and as far as I can tell I don't have anything selected that sacrifices power to save battery life. Any help is appreciated.

Also, it's an HP dv7 laptop, a 2010 model (4183cl, I think). i5 processor, 8gb ram... etc etc

Tbh mate I play league of legends on my brothers laptop and I see the same difference I belive its because the laptop is drawing more power then it was actually using I see the difference of 35-42 fps flucuating to a constant 60 fps because of v-sync when it is plugged in so I doubt it is rly any rly problem from your laptop just the power that it uses

To continue with that its the same thing as happens when u have a weak psu in a computer .The pc wont draw its full potential or wont work at all

I've been battling this one for a while as well, and what happens is when you plug in the power cord, the wireless device is disabled. If you pull up Device Manager, you can reenable the device there.

I'm on a Dell Latitude E6520 with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wifi device. This happens every time I plug in power, either on the laptop or when docking. I've gone through all power settings and driver settings for the wifi device, tried three different driver versions from Intel and Dell, to no avail. If anyone has solved this, tips would be appreciated.

A:Follow up on Dell that loses Wi-Fi when power plugged in

Oh geez... And I take one more pass through, and in the default Dell power plan (right click on the battery icon and pull up power options, then "Change Plan Settings", then "Change Advanced Power Settings". Expand "Wireless Adapter Settings", "Power Saving Mode", and change the Plugged In setting from "Disabled" to "Maximum Performance".

Sigh... Bad default from Dell. Looks like they're expecting you're using a landline connected docking station, but even then, why would you want to lose bluetooth and any standing wifi connections just because you plugged in. Dumb.

Hopefully one of you guys can explain something for me. I have fitted a new battery to my Toshiba laptop and since fitting it the keyboard and mousepad refuse to work. If I plug in a USB mouse that works OK but still no keyboard. If I boot into safe mode everything runs OK.
I took out the battery and ran just on mains and everything runs fine and cpu is back to normal, putting the old battery in also enables the laptop to run OK.
Thinking the high cpu usage might be malware I ran Malwarebytes and Combofix but they found nothing.
Has anyone any suggestions as to why the new battery is giving these issues, never had any problems with other batteries I have fitted to laptops.

There are LOTS of problems with new laptop batteries... one study reports anywhere from 6% to 11% of China batteries are unreliable or defective. you have no idea how long it has been sitting on the shelf or in a warehouse box in some shipping point.
First, clean you contact points with an eraser, and look for loose connection points, then consider returning to the seller for for an exchange.

I currently have a Lenovo laptop and have had it for 2 and a half years. The battery has always been pretty bad and last about 3 minutes unplugged. The hard drive is a temperamental one from an old laptop as the original broke for no apparent reason, probably didn't help I was constantly having to rebuild it too. I know it is stupid but when I got this laptop I was young and naive and didn't realise how essential recovery disks are.
I realise to replace all of these would be quite expensive so am wondering whether it is worth just buying a new laptop?

A:Worth replacing the hard drive, battery and buying recovery disks?

We need more information to comment.
There are at least 7 levels of Lenovo laptop... Is this a T-series... or just what is it? model and type.
In general, Lenovo laptops are among the most reliable...
This is not a good time to buy hard drives, due to the market over-adjusting to the hard drive factories under water in Thailand.
Batteries, good ones, can be found for $35 to $45
But you can get a 90 GB SATA hard drive for $90 or less.
Tell us the hard drive brand and size, the amount of memory installed.
All in all, we can rebuild a decent Lenovo for $140... and that is a lot less expensive than a new laptop. But a shop would have to charge you $205 or more.
A cheap laptop might cost you $500 to $600, but a good laptop could cost you $1200 to $1800. For long term reliability, I would want to invest at least $1000 to $1500

Tell us more so we can best advise you.

A:How to prolong your battery's life

Where did you get this information? Some of it I'd agree with, others I don't. It also reads like a post you copy pasted into lots of places around the internet - however a quick googling didn't return anything.

1.Store battery :
Put your batteries in a cool and dry place when you store it.
Yes, that is generally good practice for lots of things.

Do not charge your lithum batteries too full before storage.
Ok, no prob here either, although saying that doing so can decrease overall capacity of the battery would have made it a better statement.

After using the laptop battery ,please clean up the metal terminals with a soft dry clean cloth.
So, I should take the battery out of my laptop every time I've used the laptop while not plugged in. This is not practical on some laptops and ultrabooks, nor does it seem necessary since I have never seen a corroded laptop battery.

Before storage, you should confirm your is not fully depleted. If empty, charge for about 30 minutes . Usually a lithium-ion battery should be stored at about 40% state-of-charge.
I've seen 50% thrown around, but I'll accept 40%.

The suitable storage temperature for batteries is around 15C
Ok. Haven't heard this, but I suppose it makes sense.

Please notice this: weak batteries charge faster and remain on 'ready' indicator longer than strong ones. Also it only be used for a short time.So do not buy a used battery even if it is very cheap because used battery usually means weak battery.
This is confusing. Should define "weak". What does "remain on 'ready' indicator longer than strong ones" mean? Why would this happen? There are programs like BatteryCare for Windows and Coconut Battery for OS X that you could use to get information on a used battery before purchasing. Its possible with those tools to make an informed decision on whether or not the battery is worth the price. Simply dismissing the possibility of purchasing a used battery is lazy.

2.Charge battery :
Most battery can be fully charged in about 3 hours so do not leave a battery in a charger for a long time.
Are we still talking about laptop lithium batteries? They are intelligently charged based on circuitry in the battery pack to charge without overcharging, leaving in longer will not damage. A majority of battery chargers for NiCD, NiMH, and NiZn sold in the last 5+ years are also smart chargers and would stop charging once they sense a (typically) 0.01V decrease. Basically overcharging isn't a problem today.

When you prepare to charge your battery ,make sure the temperature is around the room temperature.
Makes sense.

Especially need to pay attention is avoid over-charging and over-discharging.
See above.

Do not charged to higher voltages than its threshold voltage ,as it would become unsafe.
As I said above, things are charged on smart chargers now, this isn't going to happen. It seems that starting with your #2 section you are mixing up laptop batteries and regular rechargable batteries like you use in a flashlight.

Prepare a new battery for replacement if your battery get weak over time.
Ok. Or you could just continue to use it, laptop batteries are expensive. If someone needed to get 5+ hours and now they can't, then of course they'll buy a replacement, don't think they need to be told to do so.

Please notice this: It is not very distinct to reduce the charge time by increasing the charge current .
What? Again, possibly talking about other types of batteries than lithium laptop batteries, but even at that I think you used a wrong word or two.

3.Maintain battery :
Rechargeable batteries do not break suddenly but slowly get powerless over time.
All? NiZn batteries have been known to "break" suddenly and not be able to be recharged. Lead Acid batteries in cars often start a car just fine, then the next attempt at... Read more

So basically like the title says, I can't charge the laptop, I know the charger works though because I tried it another laptop that's the exact same as mine and it works on the other laptop but not mine, is there any inexpensive way I can fix it?

If not then can someone guide me through how to transfer the data over to another laptop?

Thanks!

A:Can't charge laptop, how do I fix or how do I transfer data over to a new laptop?

To transfer data, remove the disk and connect it to the other laptop using an adapter such as this or put it in an enclosure.

Once connected, the laptop will see the HDD as a removable storage and you can click and drag files from one to the other.

I have a acer tarvelmate 2480 and recently i left it charging all night, woke up and found out the adapter(power) light was blinking and when pulled out of the laptop it stopped and now it won't turn on nor charge any suggestions.

Ive already checked out this Laptop won't power on? in one of the forums but none of the advise complies.

A:My laptop won't charge nor turn on

Try another outlet.
Take out the battery and try it with the ac adapter\power cord plugged in.
Try another AC Adapter or Power Cord.

One of the two is probably faulty.

The other day my PSU stopped working. I took a PSU from another computer and hooked it up and it worked fine, it just didn't fit inside my case. So I called a friend who had extra PSUs. He brought them down and we hooked them up. None of them seemed to work. When I hooked the PSU that didn't fit into the case back up, this time it didn't work. I looked on line and found a way to test the PSUs to make sure they were working by attaching a 18ga wire into the green and black 20 pin. Then I tested each component separately. The PSU stay on until I got to the ATX12V 4-pin power connector. That's when it shut off. Does this mean the motherboard is now fried? Help me please.

So, my mom brought home this computer and I started it up, and it was brand new, like, operating system still not installed. So, I popped in the cd that was in a case that came with it [everything matching the system settings, etc.] and installed the operating system. So, I'm thinking: Huh, what luck! ...Wrong. I plugged in the Ethernet chord to connect it to the internet, and it's not even pulling up an LAN Icon. So, I go into Device Managers, and the Network Adapter is missing. So, I'm lost. Any of you smart people got any advice?

I have a new 12 cell battery for my acer 5535. Computer beeps a warning and shuts back down on start-up. Incorrect battery message. battery is a 12 cell, 10400mAh, AS09A41. A user brought me her laptop (an Acer Aspire 4520) for start up speed issues. While dealing with that I noticed that after shut down, I couldn't power the machine back up by pressing the power button. I have to unplug the power chord and then I can power the machine up. Also, if the machine is in sleep mode the power button doesn't wake it whether it's plugged in or not. You have to unplug it AND pull the battery to bring it back to a state where it will power up.

I've tried every configuration provided to me be Vista to configure the power button behavior in the CP but no luck...

This is a Dell Latitude laptop with Windows XP
I let the battery die on it and when i plugged it in the next morning to turn it on I get that error message. I tried taking out the hard drive and putting it back in. The BIOS is not seeing any hard drive. It reads "<none>"
I am not sure if the battery discharging has anything to do with it or not.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

A:Internal hard disk drive not found after battery discharge

Faulty HDD Controller but I would have that laptop check out if you can. Most likely it's the MOBO that is to blame. MOBO = Motherboard. See if that was XP not seeing the HDD then you could re-install XP. But you said your BIOS is not seeing the HDD. It could also be your HDD as failed. Normally DELL has a tool that you run to test your system out. This tool is use by DELL Certified Techs to see where your issue is. HDD, MOBO, Battery. Most of the time the MOBO is replaced. Then HDD then the Battery to solve your issue.

A:Lenovo G560 battery charges but laptop won't run on it

The battery contacts could be corroded by the spilled water. It takes time for this corrosion to develop so that's why the time that the laptop worked. The water could have affected other internal circuits too over time. The laptop needs to be opened up and inspected

My sister quot inherited quot a used Acer Aspire z from a friend of hers It was not at all well maintained so I decided the best thing to do would be to wipe it clean and install Windows XP I had a copy of XP already I had a few hang ups finding drivers but after some work I got everything functioning correctly When on, not turn Aspire will in Acer when 5610z plugged even I Acer Aspire 5610z will not turn on, even when plugged in finally got it working the battery would not hold a charge for more than about ten minutes it worked fine while plugged in but once unplugged the battery drained quickly I charged it for an entire night after I finished the downgrade and it still would not hold a charge so I m assuming the battery is shot And now today the laptop will not turn on at all even when plugged into a power source It worked fine as recently as last night but now the power indicator comes on for about a second and then turns back off A few things I m pretty sure the previous owner of this laptop did not maintain it very well at all and hardly ever used it so the battery was hardly ever charged I don t know if this makes a difference When he gave it to her he did not have the original charger so I had to buy one online The power supply I bought gets very hot when it s connected Again I don t know if this makes a difference but I found it odd I read somewhere that I should remove the battery and the power supply hold the power button for seconds re-insert the main power power on the computer and insert the battery I followed those steps but they did not work I suspect the battery is just shot But before I go and drop on a new battery I would like to make sure there is nothing else I can do I apologize for the lengthy post but I wanted to be as thorough as possible Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks nbsp

A:Laptop battery issuie

The first quick fix that I would recommend, as to see if we can get your battery to charge is this. Take your battery in your hand, carefully inspect the gold tipped connector points, where the battery makes it's electrical connection to the lap top. Inspect those ends, see if they have any dirt, dust, film or build up on them, if they don't shine as bright as a new penny, you then might want to clean of the end connectors. Take some rubbing alcohol, a couple q-tips, and carefully clean the tips off, allow 10-15 minutes to dry and then hook the battery back up to the lap top and see if it starts charging.

There's a couple more quick fixes up my sleeve, but I just want to see if this first one will do the trick.

Please let us know if this works or not!

Good luck.................

I built a new pc and about ten hours after running fine i plugged a flask drive into the usb slot and the computer just turned off, everything is running correctly from what i can see inside, fans, hard drive, graphics card and power supply was tested to see if it was enough power, through all the tests I have only come to the conclusion that the Motherboard might be a dud because it was the only piece i was not able to test in my friends computer swapping parts though the lights are still turning on in the motherboard if that matters or not, not sure what to do as far as fixing the problem or why the computer would just suddenly turn off right when i put the flash drive in the usb any ideas what to do?

I have an Acer Aspire 3680 laptop.

Problem is, it won't charge. This just started a bit ago but I want to possibly nip the problem now before it gets worse. I have it running off of the power cord now but as soon as I unplug that it says you have 4% remaining.

I've restarted the computer and all that trying to get it to charge but it just won't.

Any suggestions? I've looked into updating the driver but I am kind of leery about that and don't know where I would find the proper driver.

A:Laptop won't charge

Question(s):

1. How old is this laptop (approximately)?
2. How often do (did) you run it with both battery attached and power-cord plugged into the computer?
3. Which OS are you running on the laptop?

Explaination:
You see, a very common problem with laptops is that people leave the cord attached most of the time, putting unnecessary charge on the battery. Eventually, the battery gets too exhausted to recover itself (the electrons are frozen in place) - which eventually results in symptoms very similar to yours.

As for the OS-question, charging is mainly done by the ACPI-codec IF driver-related at all. There are (many) laptops which rely fully on mechanical solutions for charging the battery. Although some, especially those from Toshiba and HP, rely on ACPI for charging, shutting off, restarting and so on - properly. If you're running Linux, then this might be driver-related. If your running Windows, then this is presumably not driver-related.

Are there any more details beside the questions above?

if those aren't set in 20% it probably means your battery is out of calibration.

I need a new battery or charger for toshiba laptop A105-S2101. The battery is a PA3451U-1BRS and its a DC 14.4v 2000mah.

Well first off the battery wont hold or take a charge. Everytime I unplug it from the wall the laptop goes off too. The lights do come on the laptop showing that its charging.

2nd thing is does voltage matter on battery replacement? I cant find 14.4 replacement thats cheap. All ones I find 10.? volt with 4000-4400mah on ebay.

A:Laptop battery replacement

You need to use the same battery, and the same charger voltages. High capacity batteries usually have a higher mah figure, but I would replace them like for like.

Batteries are never cheap, and they do wear out - some faster than others, but eventually they all die and stop holding charge.

hp media center m1000 steady blinking light when plugged in. will not go on. anyone know what this means?

A:HP Media Center m1000 steady blinking light when plugged in

Sounds like a fault with the battery to me.

Have you tried removing the battery completely, and then running it off of the mains lead only?

EDIT: I see google lists this as a PC, so the above doesn't apply.

Usually on a PC the blinking light is an indication that the computer is in sleep mode. If it won't power up, try removing the power cable, and then hit the power button (to discharge electrics) and then reconnect, and try powering it up then.

USB 8 GB Flash Drive worked fine for over a year but now disconnects moments after plugged in. Tried to plug in the flash drive both XP and Vista operating systems. The PC will issue the tone indicating that it recognizes that a device has been plugged in to USB port and the light comes on indicating power to drive, but PC will instantly issue the tone indicating that the flash drive has been disconnected. Drive info does not appear in Disk Management window and the My Computer screen will briefly show 'Scanning For Object' but the disconnect tone sounds before icon can appear.

A:New video card (Radeon HD 4850) not working without the old one plugged in too

Are these video cards PCIe? Can you swap video slots with the 2 cards one at a time, and still get the video to work? Have you played with the bios and checked the video settings and allocations?

Monitor w/ built in speakers is an HP f2105.

Windows 7 32bit

I turned my computer off for a week. The first time it's ever been off in 5 years. It has an onboard Realtek soundcard. It worked perfectly before leaving for vacation. I come back and there is no sound. Headphones work and the speakers work when plugged into the front panel headphone jack.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and making Onboard Sound Card "Enabled" in BIOS. Is it likely that the onboard sound just stopped working while being shut off or is there another underlying issue?

A:Speakers only work plugged into headphone jack

Will the headphones work when plugged into the back panel (green jack)?

Hi;
I have had my iPod 20Gig 4th gen for about 5 years, and as expected the battery no longer holds a good charge. I usually have about 2 hours of listening (mostly to audio books), but when it was new, it was more like 5 or 6 hours.

I have continued to use this iPod mostly at home, charging it frequently, and sometimes leaving it connected to the charger while using it.
I have a slight concern about the Lithium battery in the unit, and whether an old battery could be more susceptible to explode while being charged.
I have been leaving the unit on charge overnight, but have never detected any heat in the unit or the charger while it is connected.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

FW

A:Old iPod, weak battery

It is completely natural for the battery life to deteriorate over time. You most likely will be able to get the battery replaced at an apple store- here is a list of prices if you are interested:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/#us

I would not worry about the battery exploding either. Although it happens on occasion, the number of cases I have heard of is in the single digits.

Hi, I have a Gateway AJ2 that is acting up. If I have the battery installed, the computer runs on the battery, regardless if the AC adapter is plugged in or not. If the battery isn't installed, the computer runs on AC with no problems.

The battery does not charge. The computer is a little over a year old. I don't exactly recall when the problem started, but it might have been after a Windows Vista update or a bios update.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

A:Laptop runs on only battery or AC, not both

The battery is probably bad. They are consumables, just like paper is to a printer... Regardless of its age, it needs to be replaced if only to verify for a bad battery or not

what is this error when i boot my cusin portable it doest boot immediately error appears as" bad cmos battery -error date & time. it says there that i need to choose either f2 (utilities bios or press f1 .when press f2 it goes straight to bios of course! but the best option is to press f1 so it will bot normaly to the xp windows OS specs is WIN XP SP1. Do we need to replace the cmos battery now.

A:Bad CMOS battery

Does it do this on every boot up? Have you tried going F2, after your in the bios hit F10 (should prompt you to SAVE, if not, then exit and save) If it continues to do this then yes, you will need to replace the CMOS battery and hope that it is just the battery and not where it sits.

I have a Dell XPS M that turned one year last week During that week I made screenshots of the CPUID-information delivered to me I use this wonderful piece of software to monitor Battery development capacity a a over and year week, the temperature of the notoriously hot computer and after mye last harddrive-crash I found the new version contains information about the battery too I wonder How can Battery capacity development over a week, and a year the current full charge capacity swing so much on a day to day basis And is it normal that the battery has lost of its capacity during the first year Even though lithium batteries are not supposed to have a memory-effect I still cling to the quot empty first load thereafter quot -strategy and have had good success with that on cell phones But the Dell disappoints me as it does in any other respect anyway - new harddiscs new motherboard and a new battery already in week one are the results of the first year s use and maintenance need Never needed maintenance on any PC or notebook ever before PC-use since Best regards ungua nbsp

A:Battery capacity development over a week, and a year

16% loss after one year is reasonable. ok, so not all battery manufacturers have "accurate" battery wear level but i will post mine: i got 2 laptops with accurate battery so far (acer TM4000 and 5930G)

the latter, was bought in early dec 2008. so today, after about 1.5 years it has 31% wear level. now = 48988mwh. was = 71040mwh.

in my case, the level get worse if i use the laptop everyday on battery. once I kept the battery and use the laptop as a desktop replacement the level barely increase. one tip to keep it is that to "calibrate" your laptop battery as often as possible. In some cases I successfully decrease the wear level by doing that. It's clear that short discharge of battery actually worsen the age of the battery itself.

I saw few sony vaio & toshiba laptops, with battery wear level at 0% but battery dies within 5-10 minutes of usage.

Can a low bios battery cause slow computer operation? I am getting a low battery warning when booting up which probably is the reason the computer is slower than dirt. Thanks

A:Dell desktop BIOS battery question

i'd be more inclined to blame something else on poor performance, because all the BIOS battery does is keep CMOS settings. it's a small, low-voltage, button cell battery that powers the chip socket. if you are experiencing slow performance, try defragging your hard drive and scanning for viruses. if the computer is taking it's time starting up, check your startup list and disable everything that's not necessary.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that is about 3 years old. Recently, the battery will only charge to 35%. It then will stop charging though it remains plugged in. I have tried letting the battery die completely and recharging it. Again, it will charge, but only to 35%. Is this indicative of the battery being old?

A:Battery in old Dell Inspiron won't charge past 35%

Yes

My friend's laptop won't turn on. It doesn't start to boot or anything. My first thought is it's either the battery or the A/C adapter but I'm not sure how to check those without having swappable pieces (which I don't have.)
I took the battery out and tried to power on with just the A/C adapter plugged in and same as with the battery in, only thing that happens is the little light with the lightening symbol flashes 3 times. Also the little light where you plug the charger in lights up while the charger is in. Would the laptop power up with just the A/C adapter plugged in and no battery?

I have an ASUS Eee pc 904hd - it just doesn't power up at all - the lights on the charger light up - but there is no power to the laptop.

1.Should this run on mains alone ?(thus indicating a dc jack problem)

2.Or is it more likley to be the battery ?

Any ideas how I can test - or if there is a guide to replacing DC jacks ?

Cheers Guys

A:Eee pc dead battery or DC jack how to tell ?

When I was in RS I use take the multi-meter and test the AC/DC adapter to if it was reading the correctly. The jack should be soldered in the motherboard. I know my ASUS Eee PC has tiny slot of the power. Got to handle it gentle. You could fix the issue but replacing the motherboard. I

Look at these pictures of your unit inside of it. Everything is on the MOBO soldered.
