Edge 15 won't boot in Win10 after upgrade

Q: Edge 15 won't boot in Win10 after upgrade

Upgraded Edge 15 from Win8.1 to Win10 today. Everything was fine, then an installation file got stuck so I held power button for a forced shutdown. When I power up again, I get nothing, just a blank screen. (I didn't even see Lenovo logo) After another power cycles I saw a "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen, then it went away and I am still stuck at a blank screen, from the sound of hard drive it's not reading.I also tried booting to "Windows boot manager" and hard-drive, both got blank screen. Any help?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I have gone through all the usual hoops I can find on the upgrade issues mostly based off the one error I have managed to get spit back xC - x This is partition prevents boot my or upgrade 7 win10 windows Something on usually found to be a driver error but after removing everything possible to no avail I said screw it and went for the clean install The install media would get stuck at the spinning dots even after booting directly to it that is until I removed the older hard drives namely the one with my win install I now have a clean win sitting pretty on an SSD but here goes my issue if I plug the win drive back in with computer off I get stuck on spinning dots again After restart I can get a repair screen which only leads to a black screen with a mouse Take out the Something on my windows 7 partition prevents win10 upgrade or boot one drive again and I can get in Fun stuff so far What is most curious I dropped in the drive when win was up yay sata hotswap and it read the other two partitions great But the win partition isn't read leading me to believe something is corrupted there Ultimately and ideally I would like to do an upgrade to Something on my windows 7 partition prevents win10 upgrade or boot keep my files around and not deal with restoring everything less ideally would be getting the win install to see the win install partition but I would bet these issues are one in the same I have run chkdsk and sfc scannow no errors on either For record is what I have in win and when I hotswap this drive in on C will not show up TIA

Just got my Z10T and decided to upgrade to Win10. Problem is the Win10 upgrade hung and now I can't fix Win10.

Nor can I restore Win 8.1 from SSD recovery partition or from USB recovery image I made before trying Win10 upgrade.

So, I am hoping that someone can throw me a lifeline, otherwise I have a very expensive ultrabook that I can't use at all.

Cheers

Is it for a site you have set as the Home page? If so, make sure you don't have Edge set to delete cookies on exit.

I received an attached PDF in my 2016 outlook. It has the Edge logo on it and when I open it it appears as an opened link not a stand alone PDF. I have changed my default browser from edge to IE but that does not help.
I cannot export or convert the file to PDF - Edge has no capabilities. Is it possible to receive an adobe file in Edge because I cannot remove this app/program.

I prefer to use IE 11 as my default browser in Windows 10 but have added Firefox and Chrome to the Open With menus of .url and .html file types for when I want to open those particular file types in those browsers. I've been trying to figure out how to add MS Edge to the Open With menu as well but am stumped. The usual method (the way I added Firefox and Chrome) doesn't appear to work for Edge. The Microsoft Edge caption and its icon appear in the Open With menu but it doesn't open.

Any ideas?

A:How to add MS Edge to Open With menu in Win10?

Edge should be pinned to the task bar upon delivery of the OS to your machine.but as in many cases it can be easily moved, without realising.

try going into Start menu/screen, find Microsoft Edge icon, right-click, select "Pin to Taskbar," and done. Edge should be pinned back at the end of the taskbar.

other ways may help, too:
Don't click on the Microsoft edge icon on the start list. Go to the list of programs (all app.) after you click on the start button and search for the Microsoft edge program (or app) and then right click it. You will see "pin to taskbar" there.

Lengthy, but interesting article on Edge from ZDNet.

Can these tests really determine best browser for everyday use ? My personal experience running 8.1 with an i3, 4GB, laptop is that IE 11 actually performs the best for my needs.

? (link)

With just over six weeks before Windows 10's launch, we can start benchmarking programs on it to see what to expect. True, all these web browsers' performance will improve once Windows 10 has rolled out, but the operating system is mature enough that we can start to see just how fast web browsers will run on it.

A:Win10 Edge Browser Test

Nice article, torre, interesting. IE 11 not a slow browser by any means, will will know for sure once Edge comes, i just do not like some of the things about IE 11 functions and add on abilities compared to others. Chrome yes was not far behind in a lot of test, but can be resource hog. I tend to favor Firefox.

HI, I have the latest win10 update and am trying to use MS Edge. Everytime i open it it comes up with a new tab with the error message
Hmm, we can?t reach this page.
Try this
⦁ Make sure that you?ve got the right web address: .. its msn but I can't do the link as the forum sees that as spam
I have set the Settings in Edge to
Open Microsoft Edge with a New Tab Page
and
Open new tabs with A blank page
but I still get a new tab grinding away trying to open something before finally settling on that error
Any ideas how to fix this so that Edge just open to a blank page or even just to a pinned page of my choosing
thanks

Microsoft has announced that (the embedded) Flash for IE11/ActiveX & Edge on Win10 was finally updated to 20.0.0.272

https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/2755801
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3133431

Remark:   Based on the change in wording in the above document... as well as "confirmed" on my Win8.1 tablet... there has NOT (yet?) been a corresponding update for Win8.x

A:Updates 1/5/16 - Flash for IE11/ActiveX & Edge on Win10

So to summarize the Flash confusion at present:
the current Flash plug-in version (non-IE browsers) is 20.0.0.267
The current IE/ActiveX version for Win 7 and earlier is 20.0.0.270
The temporary [?] version for IE10/11 on Windows 8.x is also 20.0.0.267 ; an update was expected, but has not been released as of this writing (6 January 2016, 12:40pm EST).
The current IE11/ActiveX and Edge version for Win 10 is [allegedly] 20.0.0.272

Hello,

I received the free win 10 upgrade from an invitation to reserve the upgrade. The other day, a Ransomware hit me, and though I believe I may have immediately tracked & deleted all affected files I could find, I hardly believe I could be so skilled as to be successful.

I had this happen last year, and ended up formatting the unit, and reloading Win 7. I don't want to have to go back to 7, but how do I get another Win 10? Is there a key I need to find & save? A free site that I can get a copy on a flash drive to load from? Any help would be appreciated. I have no clue how to proceed since it's an online download, and once formatted, the unit won't be able to get online without the OS

Thanks

you can download the newest build of windows 10 > http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10

boot from the setup media - remove every partition (wipe) the HDD

and clean install widows 10

since you already had win7 and windows 10 on that PC - if asked for product key - just skip that screen

Because you may find that you need to install the Windows 10 driver for it after upgrading. With most notebooks there are two or three different adapters that could be installed. It helps to what is installed in yours.  Use the search functiion in the forum and search for windows 10 wifi driver. You will notice that many members did not take the time to either locate the driver or know what is installed.

I have an older laptop (probably 6-7 years old, Dell Inspiron running Windows 7) and its been running fairly slow lately. I saw a notice that today is the last day to upgrade to Win10 for free. Just looking for some good advice on whether or not I should even consider upgrading.

My first thought is that, with an older machine, I probably have a lot of junk on my hard drive causing the slowness so I need to clean it up (which means I'll miss the "today is the last day" bit...but do I really care?). I also think maybe my processor won't be able to handle the new version, but not sure if that's really a concern or not.

Can I ask for some advice? Thanks

it not - July 2016 is
whats the exact model and also the service tag number
make sure there are windows 10 drivers available for the PC

you could always make a recovery set of DVDs (if you havent already , and i would advise you make them anyway) and do a windows 7 clean install

you may have a lot of startups or even malware on the PC slowing it down

My wife's computer could not upgrade to win 10 cause it had an old video card. I upgrade motherboard and video card. Win 7 is registered, but can not upgrade. The free upgrade tool still shows the other video card. Tried the media creation tool and still goes back to the upgrade box with the old card. Is there anyway to erase that upgrade box and redue it?

A:Help with win10 upgrade

Check for any left over files or drivers from your old video card. Windows is still finding it somewhere. Check your device manager 1st just to see if its listing 2 video cards, then check your program folders for any left overs. Also just for backup reasons, download a program on this forum called Showkey which will give you the information on your currant Windows Key, incase you need it to upgrade to Windows 10.

So I finally got tired of the slow access times of my Edge 2 and decided to install the Crucial MX200 I had in my last ASUS laptop into it, except that I can't. Anytime that I try to boot the laptop with the MX200 attached it hangs. Normal boot hangs on the Lenovo logo, using the Novo button and selecting any of the four options does the same thing. Tried messing in the BIOS, which I can do once I pull the MX200, and disabled SecureBoot and tried using the Legacy option, no go. Didn't try changing the Intel Protected whatever it was, not sure what all that does. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Didn't realize this was going to be more difficult then every other time I have changed out a hard drive.

Hello everyone, I have a Dell Optiplex 760 SFF that has both win 7 and win 10 installed on a 1TB hard drive in the following partition order:
500 mb system reserve, 100gb win 7, 750gb data, 80gb win 10
I've also disabled the metro bootloader, as it wastes times when booting to win 7.

Whenever I reboot to Win 7 after booting into Win 10 before, the system requires a chkdsk of the Win 10 and data partition. I looked around the forums here and the win 10 forums, and have disabled fast boot in Win 10 as mentioned throughout, but it still results in chkdsk being required.

I've tried to do this on other computers such as an MSI laptops with Win7, with similar results.

Is there something else I need to do so that Win 7 doesn't do disk check?

Thanks for all the help in advance.

I have a dual-boot setup on a Dell XPS that I've had since Feb March The dual boot setup has been working fine with zero issues since then then this week I just booted into Win a couple days ago and it ran chkdsk automatically erased some files restarted and booted into Win fine I used my OS with no issues and shutdown But this morning I tried to boot into Win and my system can't boot wont Dual-Boot - HDD's Both on detected, seprt HDD's Win7/Win10 7 find the operating system I bought the computer from Dell with Win installed on their standard TB HDD and added a WDC TB HDD and installed Win in Legacy I can still boot into Win with Dual-Boot Win7/Win10 on seprt HDD's - Both HDD's detected, 7 wont boot no problem in UEFI and while using the OS I can see my other Win HDD all the files are still there and I can access them My system can even detect Win in UEFI mode and will begin to boot to that OS but of course freezes at the logo screen because Win won't run on UEFI The BIOS detects both HDD's and diagnostics says that everything's fine with both but when I try to boot into Win in Legacy mode I get a no boot device error I've run the Windows install CD to try to run diagnostics and repair startup files but all the diagnostics including chkdsk come back with zero issues except x f and x which only says that something was changed but nothing specific I can't tell if the problem is with my startup files MBR or BIOS I've already backed up my Win HDD but I'd rather not have to reinstall Windows cuz all my gaming stuff is on that HDD Can anyone help

A:Dual-Boot Win7/Win10 on seprt HDD's - Both HDD's detected, 7 wont boot

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Dual booting with all hdd's connected can be problematic
I personally use one of these to simplify the task after many mishaps dual booting on the same disk.... I never found a better/ more reliable way other than this,
Amazon.com: Vantec 2.5-Inch Dual Bay Trayless SATA III - 6G Mobile Rack (MRK-225S6-BK): Computers & Accessories

Installing each os you'd want to remove the other disk completely so each os would have it's own boot loader.
Even though 10 can access win-7 I would not do it this will often trigger check disk to run in win-7.
Not to mention Fast start in win-10 will trigger it too
Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

So yes disable fast start in win-10 is a must do.
Also for good measure disable fast or quick start in your bios too.
I would not share data disks either.

Hi everyone, this is my first visit and post and I hope you can assist
where others have failed. I have tried to install Win 10
on two machines and neither of them would work, both telling me that the CPU was not
good enough or words to that effect.

PC1 has Intel Pent G3220 3.00 GHz Haswell chip.

PC2 has Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHz.

Both of these are way over the required
minimum spec so I cannot understand why Win10 will not install.

A:Unable to upgrade to Win10 or even try it out.

Welcome to the forum. Its likely either your cpu cant handle PAE, NX and SSE2 or its not set in the bios

To test for PAE, NX, and SSE2, download a program called "CPU-Z" and run it. On the main window, look under the "Instructions" heading for SSE2, EM64T (which also indicates the processor supports PAE) and either VT-d or VT-x, which is required for NX support. If you have all 3, then you are good to go.

Hello i have a L50-B-1P1 laptop and i`m experiencing a few problems after windows 10 upgrade
1 R7 video driver missing so no catalyst present therefore i have low frames and frezess in games
2 Microphone producing garbeld voice when recording

I know that the series is discontinued but there should be some kind of fix for the problems i`m experiencing atm.

I don`t want to downgrade to wind 8.1/7

A:Sattelite L50-B-1P1 after win10 upgrade

What are your exact spec, Processor, RAM and OS type 32 bit / 64 bit

Depending on what it is you may be able to use the new AMD Crimson drivers instead. I have a L50D-C-13G and I abandoned the catalyst drivers for Crimson drivers and my machine is running great. I have an A10-8700P Carrizo R6 with windows 8.1 and it works great for me. The driver lists compatible hardware, read through it and see if your machine is supported.

Consider i work in an Enterprise environment but the license applied to my PC is the OEM, not the one under Corporate agreement.
Thanks for a clarification/confirmation.

Yes, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. You will also need to update the drivers to Windows 10 as well. Click the link below to download the drivers for your M4700.

The free upgrade applies to qualified computers that are running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8/8.1.

It does NOT apply to computers that are running Windows Vista.

My current computer has a retail copy of Win8. I'm building a new PC this weekend and I want to utilize the free upgrade to Win10 from my current retail version of 8, but I understand the free upgrade is tied to hardware.

Would my best option be to migrate Win8 to the new PC and upgrade from there? Alternatively, would I be better to just upgrade to 10 now and then migrate to the new PC afterwards? I imagine I can just discover the product key using something like Belarc Advisor, but then I don't know if the key will be accepted for activation on the new hardware... Thoughts?

hi everyone!
i am runing a toshiba satelite using windows 7. the laptop originally came with windows 8, i couldnt bear the change so i switched back to 7 and today i want to get a legit copy of windows 10 -- that will last for over 1 year -- installed after reinstalling windows 8 (my win 7 isn't licensed). after running "ProduKey" i found a "windows BIOS OEM key" that apparently belongs to the OEM win 8.

can i install 8.1 with my win 8 OEM product key?
can i upgrade directly from windows 8 to 10 or do i need to update from 8 to 8.1 and from there upgrade to 10?
can i use the retail win 8 istallation files with an OEM product key or do i need the toshiba OEM installation files?
thank you very much for any help!

No need to install windows 8 - just install windows 8.1 via ISO and then upgrade to windows 10 via ISO
windows 10 just needs to see the activation of windows 7 or windows 8.1 to activate itself..

A:Lenovo EDGE E440 RAM upgrade

Hi -- I just bought this kind of RAM for my E540, and it has worked just fine. The set I bought was G.Skil F3-1600C9D-16GRSL (which I believe is the same you specified; sorry if I misread it).  To be absolutely certain I was ordering a compatible set, I went through the vendor's Memory Selector or Memory Finder tool. That way, if it recommends something that DOESN'T work I figure their customer support has a moral obligation to make it right. Most of the online vendors have a selector to help you find upgrades -- the one I used was at newegg.com but your favorite vendor (even in a retail store) probably has one too.

My only choice is to format the hdd and reset to the OS in the chip which is Win 8, but I had already upgraded to Win 10. How can I recover my Win 10 Key so I can reinstall and activate Win 10?

Thanks / Arturo

A:How to recover Win10 Key (free upgrade from 8.1) ?

There is no free key. If your computer came with Windows 8.x, the key is in the bios. If you wish to install from the iso, do the install without activation, then once you get into the GUI, then do the activation and it will go through.

I've been hesitant to upgrade any of my PCs from 7 to 10, because it is not a clean install.
I want to be able to upgrade, but from a clean install, so that I have the ability to revert back to a windows 7 capture of my system if I find 10 to be unsavory.

Is there a way to register my hardware or obtain a windows 10 license key, via an upgrade without having to go through the process of having 10 installed on top of my 7 system?

I have a friend with WIN7 64 bit just like me. He received a message about upgrading to WIN10. He clicked on the X at the top right. It downloaded the update but he did not install it. It keeps asking about installing the upgrade.
What can he do to remove the WIN10 upgrade download?

What can we do to permanently remove any request to upgrade. Neither of us are computer gurus. We need a step by step simple procedure to stop any updates or requests for WIN10.

We have no desire for WIN10. Thanks, Bob.

A:Disabling WIN10 Upgrade for WIN7 64 bit

The simplest way is to use a tool that automates the change of settings required to prevent the forced downgrade to Windows 10. Download the Never10 utility and it will disable the Win10 download. Extensive documentation and explanations are on its site.

I downloaded the upgrade as instructed and when it reached the 100% mark, everything stopped. The download took me 5 hours! (I don't have a very good ISP speed in my area). The problem is, where is the download now? I've searched the 'downloads' file and I cannot seem to find it. Maybe it has been placed in a separate file of its own. Could you please tell me what the name of the file might be and where I may be able to find it.

A:MS says I can't upgrade my laptop as HP has not tested win10 on it.

I'll take a stab at this one..
From my experience with HP they do drop support for some of the products and you get stuck with the last OS that was installed on it.,. for example I had a nice desktop and it only would support Win7. When I tried to run Win8 on it .. well it would work fine but when I went to shut it down for the night and restart it that's when it would fail. Seems HP will not provide the updates to support new OS's. And this also applies to other OEM's.

Now having said all of that here is one option you have. Make sure you can make a system backup and backup your personal data. When that's done make sure you can restore the system and you're comfortable with the process.

At this point you could perform a clean instillation of 10 and see what happens. IF it fails to work properly just restore your PC to the previous settings with the backup you made.

... yes.. complicated but that's the best advice I can offer at the moment
And welcome to the forums

Hello,
I've a A70 ThinkCentre initialy with W7.
Since the update (almost compulsory) towards Windows 10, my explorer of files closes alone, approximately every 53 seconds... To describe a little more my "breakdown" after my tries of this evening: it is the process " explorer Windows " that is reset doubt approximately the 50 seconds. So closes the explorer, the configuration panel, etc. Everything closes at the same time. The desk becomes black some milliseconds then re-appears.It occurs permanently, even if the explorer is not opened, the desk resets...As if something made the " end of spot "...What's to be done?
Is the A70 compatible with W10?

The A70 is not on the list of Lenovo Win 10 supported systems.    Your Intel processor is several generations before official Win 10 starts.

Like in the topic. Please help; after upgrading to Win 10 there is no keys-backlight after using the FN + Z combination. in bios (after upgrading) everything is fine; so when I turn backlight ON or OFF backlight runs out, but there is problem with Toshiba Funcktion Key driver I think.
I did the reinstalation of this driver, have others toshiba drivers for Win 10 installed (Eco, system driver etc.). Toshiba Funckction key runs for several seconds after system bots up, and is blocked (?) by something after jus several seconds. Weird and very annoying. The fun is that combination for screen brightness (FN + F6 or F7) and for volume up/down (FN + 3 / 4) runs perfectly vell. Backlight
I think the problem is connected with Toshiba Funcktion Key program.

Please help ! Portege is the top class of Toshiba laptops.

Hello!

I have a strange issue where after a full shut down in Windows 10, the motherboard is still delivering power to my connected devices such as my headset, keyboard, mouse and monitors i.e. all the lights on these devices are still on, whereas previously in Win7 they would all turn off.

I did an in-place upgrade from Win7-Win10 and adjusted no motherboard BIOS settings.

I've looked through the Win10 power options and can;t see anything relating to keeping devices on after a shut down. I assume this is so USB devices like phones and tablets can charge from USB when the PC is off? However I don;t need this feature if that's the intention.

Any ideas? Is windows 10 (vs win7) sending a different command back to the MB on a shutdown?

Hardware:
MB: Asrock P67 Extreme 6
CPU: Intel 2600k

A:Motherboard Power Still On After Win10 Upgrade

Some motherboards have a USB power feature even when the computer is switched on.
This sound like your issue. This can be adjusted in the BIOS settings.

Look in the BIOS for an option called EUP Turn it off.
Or maybe ErP Ready. Turn it on.

Edit: One more thought... when you installed the motherboard chipset drivers you may have installed a small program that allows for the charging of USB devices when the PC is off.

I upgraded to win10 from win7 and started having a problem so I reverted back to win7. The problems from the upgrade followed me back with the revert to win7. The problems have to do with files and folders. I cannot create a file (doc) and save it to my documents file folder. I get a message "you don't have permission to save to this location" contact administrator. Incidentally, I'm the only user of this computer and always have been. I also get a message when trying to open an existing file " document file is locked for editing by (me or unknown user)
I'm totally confused not knowing how to get by this "file locked for editing" and "administrator privilege" needed.
Please tell me how to get around this.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Hi all,

You were all so helpful in getting me through my last Win10 experience that I decided to give it another go

I just finished upgrading my kids' PC from Win7 to Win10, and since the upgrade the system has been hard-freezing -- no responsiveness from mouse or keyboard, screen frozen in place.

I'd heard that there may be issues with USB drivers (since the motherboard is fairly old), so I reinstalled the latest from Gigabyte earlier today, but no dice.

Any advice would as always be appreciated! Thanks in advance,

A:Can I upgrade h8-1230 from Win7 to Win10?

Greetings, Win 7 upgrades to Win 10 can be problematic with no easy way back to Win 7 unless you have a good image and bootable rescue media. The safest way to upgrade is to clone your existing Win 7 install to a second HDD or SSD. Connect only the cloned HDD to your PC to do the upgrade. Carefully read this entire article by Ed Bott to learn what needs to be done, and the time invested, if you have to rebuild Windows 7.  Win 10 may have the correct WLAN driver as well as all other drivers needed to run correctly or the upgrade could choke. You still have the original Win 7 install on the first HDD and can move on with your computing life. Cheers!

I have three computers in family that were given upgrades on the win7 family plan. One was just informed it was eligible for win10 upgrade. I think I made the mistake of custom install (for a clean install) instead of an upgrade and, related to other problems with windows update, I might have lost my activation on win7. Long story short, when I got to the point where win10 was installed and asking for a key I knew I had done a no no as, if I had done it correctly, I should not have been asked for a key. Of course I have no key but the win7 key and the install just sits there with no options but to input the key, which I don't have. What's my best course of action here?
thanks in advance

OOPS -- saw you tried this already. ------------------------------------Have you tried obtaining the upgrade directly from Microsoft via their Win10 Media Creation tool? You will be able to download an entire .ISO file to burn a CD or create a bootable USB stick: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 This works better, sometimes, than the Windows upgrade pestering message.  Good luck!----------------------------------------- How are you fixed for disk space?  The upgrade needs qute a bit of extra room ~ 5 - 10 GB, at least, to store previous machine state.
