Wifi connects but will not connect to internet - pavilion g7...

Q: Wifi connects but will not connect to internet - pavilion g7...

So my pavilion g7 windows 10 laptop, connects to the Internet, I can use it momentarily, about an hour or so and then it shuts off, the Internet does. Then it'll sit there for quite a bit (a couple hours) and then turn back on, but it goes on and off and at the same time that my phone and tablet and my mother's windows 7 computer that still uses the internet. No problems.. I have tried almost everything and I am unsure of what to do.. I need help. I have turned off the router and restarted my computer and used cmd as administrator and all of these processess do not work. It's very frustrating.

Preferred Solution: Wifi connects but will not connect to internet - pavilion g7...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Pavilion g7-2010 running Win7, will connect to router but has a yellow exclamation point.  All other computer in the house connect fine.  Have tried releasing the ip, reinstalling the lan and wifi adaptor drivers, and system recovery.  This is a new computer purchased today.  Please help.

A:Wifi connects but will not connect to internet - pavilion g7...

I understand your new system is having some Internet issues. When it is connected to the wifi, is it obtaining DHCP information from the router? This can be obtained by going to the command prompt and entering ipconfig. You mentioned other PCs work fine. Are any of them also running Windows 7? Has the router's firmware been updated? A router firmware issue can cause some devices not to work properly while others do work fine.

Hello! So I bought the HP Pavilion x360, model number m3-u003xd, a few days ago and it just got shipped to my house. Right out of the box it has not been able to keep a stable WiFi connection to my home router. Sometimes it won't even be able to connect and when it does it constantly fluctuates on strength and after a few minutes it will just disconnect. Please help!

Hi. Thanks in advance to anyone who tries to help!

I'm in a rental condo. There's secure Wifi. My iPod will connect (we have the password) but my Dell Latitude laptop running Windows XP won't. (Only message is that it is waiting for the network, which eventually times out.) My laptop does connect to an unsecured wifi signal I can pick up in the same unit (from somewhere else).

I have tried unplugging/replugging the router, but since it's not mine, I don't have reconfiguration capability or anything like that.

Any ideas?

A:Wifi connects, but no Internet

So when its on the wired connection it works?
1st off I see a few things..
1 the wired connection has a manuel IP address setup.
2 The Gateway that the wireless is getting has got to be wrong. 1.1.1.0 would be a network not a node.

Try setting a static IP address for the wireless card and see if that helps.

I've been dealing with this issue for a couple years and it's driving me crazy. Everything in my house connects to my main wifi signal without issues. My laptop however connects to the signal but I cannot get internet or see any devices. I always have to be on my guest network with my laptop. I've tried resetting my router, updating the firmware in the router, renaming the main wifi signal, resetting my wireless network adapter on my laptop, updating the the network adapter firmware in my laptop, and reinstalling the network adapter. I have no idea what else to try but I'm fed up not being able to use my laptop to simply print to my wireless printer or setup various electronics with my laptop. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

I have a brand new ASUS X54 C laptop. It detects the wireless network, and will connect to the network, but it shows "no internet access." When I ran the troubleshooter it said "default gateway not available." I updated Windows and my drivers, and that did not help. I had Comcast check the new router, and they said it was okay. My cell phone connects to the internet perfectly through the same wifi...I'm out of ideas. I can connect to the internet by ethernet, but that's all.

At home everythgin works fine. WIFI connects every time. In hotels I locate the WIFI, connect no problem and immediately Skype clicks in, showing that the connection was successful. I can then Sykpe normally. But when I try to open a website, any website, I get the same message that the site in unavailable. Every hotel the same. I have gone through the settigns, tried everythgin, tried the troubleshooter, not luck. When I open my work pc in the same hotels (XP) no problems. Please help me before I throw the pc out of the window.

I am running a netbook on Windows 7 Starter.

Thank you!!

A:WIFI connects but unable to open Internet

When the connection appears to be good but you can't get the browser to go anywhere it usually has to do with winsock being messed up or the TCP/ip stack isn't right.

Try running this batch file which will reset winsock, reset the TCP/IP stack and release renew your IP.

If the connection works at home but not on the road it could be a DNS problem or your A/V software or firewall is somehow blocking the connection.

Download Renew IP + Reset Winsock Batch File

My laptop connects to all wifi networks and connects to them, but then stays set as local and doesn't actually go to internet and allow me to go online as normal.

I've tried many different wifi networks, the laptop connects to the local library's wifi and goes to internet (usually) but on every other network I try (tried about 5 others around town and home) it stays set to local, meaning it doesn't go to internet.

I have tried to Google the problem but it doesn't really make much sense to me.

Any ideas on how to fix this so my laptop can go on the internet on other wifi networks?

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Try refreshing your wireless network profiles by removing all of them then just add your own SSID (wireless network).
Wireless Network - Remove

If that didn't help, you may changing your wireless security (WEP, WPA or WPA2), make sure that you are on WPA2, it's the safest and most secured.

Hi, My notebook connects to the wifi (BT hub) just fine, but after some time (could be anywhere between 2 mins and a couple of hours) the yellow warning triangle appears over the wifi connection icon in the bottom right which states "no internet access". When this happens, the other devices in the house are still connected with internet access. the only way to fix it is to restart my notebook, sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't in which case I restart it again until it works. If I connect by ethernet, it is fine. I have updated wireless card driver, and tried all of the broadcast channels auto, 1, 6 & 11 but the same thing happens. Any ideas??? Thanks Andy

Hi ,Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I understand you are having an issue with the WiFi discconecting. I will be glad to help you. The following pages are helpful when troubleshooting wireless connectivity issues.Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 10)Also, you can look at the power management for your wireless adapter:Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)2. Expand the Network adapters.3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.4. Click the Power Management tab.5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.6. Click OK.7. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.6. Restart your PC and test.Test another connection:Many people rule out their home network as an issue if another device is working on the same network. Networking is not that simple. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to rule out settings in that device until the notebook has been tested on another network. Please keep me informed of how things went. If you require further assistance, let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help you. Please let me know if this resolves the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution".To simply say thanks, click the Thumbs up below!  Thanks.

Hi,

Bought a new laptop (SAMSUNG N150 plus) tonight, go to connect it to my wireless network...which it does. But it's not connected to the internet, what's up with that? The windows diagnostic mentioned something about my configuration was fine, but the device couldn't connect to www.microsoft.com

I've looked in device manager but nothing is flagged up so I dunno why it's not connecting, the Ethernet adapter thing is a 'Marvell Yukon 88e8040' but I can't find drivers or anything for it, to update the drivers so i'm stuck?

I've had 2 other laptops that just connect fine, why wouldn't this connect?

No idea what to do.......

I've googled some and some people are saying go into the TCP options and ****, but this should be out the box connecting. I doubt Berbera, 55 who's bought a new laptop for jim isn't going to be diving into device manager looking at her ethernet options.

What gives, why not net?!

A:Macbook connects to Wifi fine, PC connects but won't browse web

Hi.May we see:
Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 8.8.8.8

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Am running a Netgear wired router using a Netgear PCI network card GA311 on a desktop PC. It used to work fine but have not been using the desktop on line for several months (using it standalone for music recording etc. without connecting to the web at all). Needed to get online yesterday and found it just wont connect to the internet. It has always been protected with Webroot Spysweeper and Window Washer and Zone alarm comprehensive package (until April 2009 when I was last online).

The same router works perfectly wired to a Toshiba laptop and a Dell laptop (and both run happily concurrently). I am on the Toshiba now.

SO really puzzled about the desktop. Have switched off Windows Firewall, uninstalled anything which might be blocking access (zonealarm) and I will reinstall latest protection once its working again.

Any suggestions please?

thanks

My PC with windows 7 is the only computer with issues in the house. Ethernet works perfectly but wifi doesn't even when I don't have the ethernet hooked up. The wifi says it is connected but browsers, steam, and Itunes don't work. I have Bitdefender A/V and already tried uninstalling it, no change. I also uninstalled steam and Itunes with still no change. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the wireless adapter. I tried looking and I don't recall downloading or installing anything around the time the problem started. It seemed started from the automatic Microsoft update about Qualcomm Atheros, everytime when connect to any WIFi, shared internet, my portege R830 shows blue screen and the error message as followed:
system_thread_exception not handled (athwb.sys)

I found that I am not the isolated case on website. I tried to remove and stop the updates. However, once I connect to internet, the blue screen comes again.

Is the problem because of the network adaptor? The model is Qualcomm Atheros AR9002WB
Can the problem be solved if I download new driver from Qualcomm Atheros website?? Or if I replace a new adaptor??

I have a free wifi connection provided by my property management it is unsecured and password free I've been connecting to it with no problems on my laptop running vista for weeks. I bought a tenda 11n wireless usb device so I could get my desktop connected to it also, I set up and installed the card I connect to the wireless network like it was nothing but it will not connect to the internet please try and help me out thanks

A:Free wifi in my apy will connect but won't connect w/ internet

Imagine that. On another board, it was a neighbor, and I closed that because you are violating the terms of service for the ISP. Now you're here, and suddenly it's a new story.

In any case, I'm closing this one too, since I really doubt the second story!

You may want to read the TSG Rules, we don't assist in illegal activities here either.

I am at my wits end here I bought a HP Pavilion dv - nr weeks ago for college As such I am definitely in the market for reliable wifi I try to connect to the wireless network at my home and either of the Pavilion :( the HP won't connect to Internet... New wifi networks at my university and I can t make either one work reliably I have been on the online chat support with HP at least times and the problem is still unresolved and I am sooooo frustrated I have made new network profiles uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers on the laptop reinstalled them from the laptop all that jazz No dice This problem has been occurring since I bought it it is not a virus causing this problem When I make a new network profile for whatever network it shows that the network exists that I receive a signal that my password if necessary is correct but more often than not the laptop tells me quot cannot connect to the network quot a lot of times when I DO connect I eventually lose connectivity or it claims New HP Pavilion won't connect to the Internet... :( it is still connected but the New HP Pavilion won't connect to the Internet... :( connection is so slow that no pages load anymore By eventually I mean within a few minutes of connecting for the first time I can only connect to the Internet on this laptop through an Ethernet cable but I can move files to the laptop via USB Suggestions nbsp

My old (5 years) HP Pavilion desktop with Windows XP still boots and can print items that are on the computer but will not connect to the Internet.... When I check the programs on the HP the modem shows as being installed but will not connect ..... Any suggestions? Is a new modem difficult to install? Or too expensive to install on an old computer??

A:Old HP Pavilion desktop will not connect to Internet

Built in modems are usually for dial up over the phone line.
Are you using dialup internet service?
If not, your computer needs to be connected to your current
cable or DSL connection with a network cable to your router
or external modem.
If you connect that modem by USB you will probably have to install the driver software.

Hello! Really hoping to find some help here. I've been trying to fix the internet connection on my laptop for 3 hours now. OK, so my laptop has been connected to the internet fine for months. Today, it stopped working. I have several other devices in the house that are connected fine. So it is a laptop issue I think? I tried contacting my ISP (Verizon FiOS) and they couldn't help me. Directed me to HP & since my laptop is out of warranty they were trying to charge me $$$$ to help me. :/

Anyway best I can tell it's a settings/DNS configuration issue. I took some screen shots on my phone. Sorry for the bleep quality. Please helppppp.

Hi,

I have an HP Pavilion TX-1000 Entertainment PC that is really frustrating me. It will not connect to my wireless router. I have had this laptop for at least 3 years and it connects to any other wireless connection I've ever tried ( at my sons with Cox, every airport, overseas, and with my previous Qwest
routers ). Since I moved and now have a Qwest PK5000Z router this laptop will not connect. The error message I get is " The network security key is incorrect ", but it's not of course. All other laptops I've used here connect successfully, Dell, Mac, Toshiba, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

take the wireless security off the router and see if it now connects
then put the security back on and try again
what type of security are you using

also have a look at removing the wireless profiles

my friend's computer crashed a while ago, and i offered to reload it with XP. well i did and have gotten everything to work except the ethernet connection. it wont connect at all, and i even tried to install a lan driver for it and turn off the firewall, but i still cant get it to work. any advice?

A:hp pavilion 533w wont connect to the internet

It sound like the driver for the ethernet is not installed. Go to the device manager and see if there are any yellow or red exclamation points. Also if he is using the onboard lan be sure it is enabled in the BIOS. According to the specs of this PC you have an option of two different MoBo. Both take a realtek 8100 driver, Here is a link to try:

Let us know if this helps.

If you go to Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, and look at the Network connection diagram, is Internet X'ed out? If so, just click on the Internet. Does that work. (I'm sorry I can't be more specific but, for some reason, I can't get there right now to be more precise. I think I need to reboot.

I can connect to my home router through ethernet with my laptop, and I can connect wirelessly to it with other computers.

My laptop can also connect wirelessly to routers other than the home router. For some reason I'm having issues connecting wirelessly specifically with this laptop through this specific router. I need help troubleshooting. Diagnose and repair said there may be a problem with the DNS configuration.

I can't ping IP addresses either even the internet connection icon on the bottom right of the screen indicates that its connected to both my LAN and internet.

I can't connect to the NAS, so the LAN isn't working either.

Sorry, the title wasn't well thought out. I would have edited it if it was an option.

Hello, lets do some cleaning up and see if that helps you out .
How to Flush DNS in Windows Using the Command Prompt

Step 1 ? Close all open web browsers and applications on your computer.

Step 2 ? Open the Windows command prompt by selecting the ?Start? menu and entering ?cmd? in the search text field box followed by clicking the ?enter? key.

Step 3 ? At the command prompt, enter ?ipconfig /flushdns? followed by pressing the ?enter? key. After a moment, Windows will display a message similar to: ?Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.? Once the message is displayed, the DNS will be flushed removing all incorrect entries.

Then , we want to get the IP reset, so, lets renew its settings and see if this also helps out :
you will type in the command box : ipconfig /release then enter, then next ipconfig /renew then enter, this will reset the IP , now restart and attempt to have it reconfigure its connections to your router. Post back results please.

Internet works perfectly on my other laptop with exactly similar settings.

My comp was infected with a virus until I finally got MBAM to work and delete all my viruses and rootkits. My Internet was working fine both ways before I installed it. But now i can connect to it, but when I access the Internet in any of my browsers (firefox, ie8, opera, or safari) I get a blank screen in firefox after going to any site, and the rest just say that it's not connected to the Internet. Even tried going into Safe Mode with Networking, no luck. Please help!

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I am using windows xp sp3 with firewall off and system restore disabled by group policy and using the admin account does not help solve the problem either.

I just dumped Windows 8 and installed a newly purchased copy of Windows 7. The devices show only Bluetooth and nothing else.
I highly suspect the software is missing the required drivers.
I load Linux Ubuntu live disk and have no problems at all. In fact, that's what I am using now.
Any help here would be appreciated.

Up until yesterday, I could connect my iPhone to the internet via my Win 7 laptop using an ad-hoc network and internet connection sharing. Now I can connect the two with the wifi ad-hoc network, and my internet connection is shared, but the iPhone just can't see the internet connection. I know it's a Win 7 problem because the iphone connects to the net fine using an ad-hoc network and connection sharing when I boot my laptop (MacBook) into OSX (snow leopard).

Both networks (3G internet and wifi ad-hoc) are classed as 'work' networks in Win 7. Can you help ? it's a real pain having to switch to OSX to update my iPhone.....

Things I changed recently - installed Boot Camp 3.1 64bit (am running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit).

A:WIFI limited connect to internet.

Check my router settings, this is a router issue. WIFI provider in Indonesia (Telkom Speedy) already change the region of TP-LINK from original United States to Indonesia and to cause Acer with Windows 10 limited connect to internet. So, after rechage to original region (United States), problem solving.  Thanks.

I try to connect to hotspot in friends phone for file transfer from WIFI.
But since my friends data connection is off, and when i try to connect , it shows me "no internet access" and wifi doesnot get connected .
After turning on-off wifi multiple times (around 15-20 times), sometimes it gets connected . But it never gets connected in 1 shot .
Is it compulsory to have internet access to connect to a hotspot?
Is it bug or feature of windows ?
I use lumia 640xl lte with latest windows 10 Anniversary update.

Hello there,

My desktop Windows 7 home premium can't connect internet even with the WIFI is on. Please help. Have been trying for last 5 days.
I tried to install Malwarebytes, it deleted 347 files but could not update due no connection. Tried to work from Safe Mode but no luck either.

A:Can't connect internet even with wifi on in my desktop

I'm assuming you mean Safe Mode with Networking. My best guess is a software blockage, some program has closed your internet access, or, drivers for the devices that connect to the internet are "disconnected." You might consider removing the ethernet card and the wifi card [if such is in the desktop] from devices within Device Manager and force Windows 7 to rediscover the drivers -- hopefully such are on the hard-drive, just needing to be reIntroduced, reinstalled, reregistered. If you can, from another computer, download Tweaking.com's Windows Repair (All in One), install on problem computer, it just might be able to shake loose the obstruction. Accept defaults, add item #26 & 27, run WR in Safe Mode with Networking.

Downloaded windows 10 about 7 weeks ago. Had no problems what so ever. Everything went smoothly. Then I was online when windows defender popped up about finding malware. When trying to fix this problem.. screen went blue and updates started. From that point on computer says I am connect to internet but the Linksey router said internet connection is lost. But computer in bedroom, cellphone, tablet and a few other devices still work using the wifi. Please help not sure what to do.

A:Windows 10. Had WiFi but now cannot connect to internet

So your computer is still running, thats good. First lets make sure that it was really Windows Defender that says malware detected. Open Windows Defender, go to the History tab, select Quaranteen and click details. It should list the malware that was detected.
Is the computer wired or wireless?
Then, you said Linksys router says connection is lost, do you mean connection between the computer and router? Some routers can show a list of the connected PCs, is that what you are referring to?

VeasnaYim,
Welcome to Seven Forums!

First off, check to see if your internet indicator light on your router is on. If it is not, then it is the router that needs to be reconfigured. Otherwise, disconnect and reconnect to the router and see if that helps.

The first thing you should try is to reboot your router by powering it off, wait 20-30 seconds, then power it back up. This is especially true if those devices that don't connect now, connected fine in the past.

Laptop got a virus and I used system restore. When the computer came back up, it would not connect to the internet. It is a wireless signal and the computer recognizes the signal is there, but it won't connect. The connection box says "Connections are available". It also says "Not connected" and "Limited access". How can I get this fixed?

A:Wifi signal is there but won't connect to the internet

and welcome to the Forum

What exactly hapens when you try to connect? . .

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

If malware was involved try running this
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also, more specific specs on your system would be helpful.

It wouldn't hurt to look for updated driver/software for your wifi device either.
Which I could point you to if I knew what kind of system we were dealing with.

Files are in TEMP folder of user starting with name SUNFLO. It's a temp file anyway. So you may delete it (as you probably did).

Start REGEDIT and start at the top (click on computer icon). Now search for: wrvetx
also search for: roron

Do you find them... if so where? Post screenshots

Hello.

I have a problem here. Everytime I connect to my WiFi, it looks like this:

It says "Internet Access", but I can't access any website. What is going on here? The only solution I find this so far is to turn off the Wi-Fi adapter then turn it on again. It makes me tired. Is there any solution available?

Oh yeah, I've tried updating the driver, but it says "Your Adapter is up to date".

Thanks.

Hi: You need these wireless and bluetooth drivers... The package contains the Broadcom wireless LAN drivers and utility that are required to enable the integrated Broadcom Wireless LAN Adapter in supported notebooks that are running a supported operating system. File name: sp70888.exe This package contains the Broadcom Bluetooth driver and software for supported models that are running a supported operating system. Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 Driver is required to enable Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 devices and is compatible with Broadcom Bluetooth 3.0 and earlier versions. File name: sp71440.exe You should be able to use the W7 x64 drivers and software from the base 15z-af000 on your model except the BIOS and firmware files. http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-15-af000-Notebook-PC-series/7771410/model/8341291 In addition to the above drivers, you will need to install the amd chipset driver from AMD for the smbus and usb controllers. You want the 1st file on the page.  Install and restart the PC. http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows%207%20-%2064

Hi Experts,
I am using Windows 7 PC, I want to connect the LAN with internet and WiFi with a Television to display the statistics of a particular process software. I could connect individually but I would like your help to connect both LAN and WiFi private network at same time. Request your kind help thank you!

A:Connect LAN to internet and WiFi with seperate device

You have two different networks configured?

My home LAN (wired and wifi) is all the same network. Devices connected by ethernet and wifi can all see each other.
