M92p - DisplayPort to HDMI not working

Q: M92p - DisplayPort to HDMI not working

On my ThinkCentre M92p which has Windows 7 pro installed I am using a standard monitor from the onboard VGA.
But now I want to run a 2nd display to my LCD TV. So I have a new cable into the onboard displayport and the other end is HDMI into my TV. Nothing showed on the TV (no signal). So I went to the display settings and click on Detect but (Another display not detected) came up. Then I went into BIOS and set up the video to Multiple Displays. Still No Signal.
As far as I know I have the correct drivers for this model from the support downloads. Driver (b2vdo41us14.exe)
I am hope now someone can guide me through what I am doing wrong. And be thankful for any input.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What is your BIOS version ? And exactly what cable are you using for DP to HDMI ?

I'm trying to run audio to a stereo receiver over an HDMI cable attached to my computer (T420s) through a DP to HDMI adapter. I have the DisplayPort++ symbol on my computer, so a passive adapter should work. The only playback device listed though is Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD. I've tried installing the Intel Graphics Driver listed on Lenovo's site, hoping it might install the Intel Display Audio driver. It did not seem to. I still have to Intel audio in the device manager. Any ideas on what to do to get audio to my stereo receiver?

Are there any adapters to do this or ways to do this? I can't seem to find any.

I am buying new monitors, the dell u2414h. Now, while this does have hdmi, I will be connecting multiple monitors together to extend the display from the laptop to give me multiple screens. The problem with this is that it only works if you use displayport and not hdmi, so I need a way to convert the hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

I will primarily be using these monitors with my laptop that has displayport, so that is why I am getting these monitors and that won't be a problem. I will most likely hook up other laptops to the monitors and hdmi is way more common from what I have seen on laptops than displayport and is why I need a way to go from hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

Any ideas? Thanks.

A:Hdmi to Displayport/Mini Displayport

You can't, HDMI does not support daisy chaining in the manner that DisplayPort does and you can't use a simply adapter to go from HDMI to DisplayPort and get the features of DisplayPort.

So I have a Thinkpad T with NVIDIA Quadro NVS M with a VGA out and Displayport out Windows Pro -bit For the past few months I have simply just used a VGA cord from the VGA out to the tv and used external speakers for my tv setup I to LCD TV Displayport/HDMI 1080p recently bought a Displayport to HDMI adapter so I can pass both video and sound to my tv digitally Video and sound passthrough works just fine my laptop picks Displayport/HDMI to 1080p LCD TV the tv as a secondary display But I can t get it to run at p Over VGA it automatically set itself to x and never had an issue Now over HDMI it picks up at Displayport/HDMI to 1080p LCD TV x Hz NVIDIA control panel recognizes x as native but when I set it to that setting the screen edges are cut off top bottom left right they are off the screen I ve read this is what is called quot overscan quot but I m no television expert I tried resizing the screen but then another issue became apperent green dots all over the green like snow in different positions as time passes I have ruled out the new DP to HDMI adapter by pluggging my laptop with the same adapter and hdmi cord to my ASUS VH H monitor through its own HDMI input automatically runs at p with sound with none of the above issues I have spent a few hours Displayport/HDMI to 1080p LCD TV reading through similar topics on this forum and others but most conclude with driver update Unforunately since Lenovo opted out of Nvidia s driver program Im stuck with Lenovo s driver which is quite old Sept so thats off the table I ve read too this seems to be common with Windows and not Vista and XP Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it It would be nice to run my tv at p from my laptop and not x

Hello & welcome to sevenforums,

What's about duplicate the laptop screen over the Hdmi cable in the Windows 7 display settings, not your video card drivers?
So the laptop will be overscan, but not the digital TV that will have the full screen without any black borders or cutted edges.

But looks the duplicate display will stay at 1366x768 / 60hertz, 32bits colors.

I replaced my monitor with a Dell that has VGA, DVI and DisplayPort. My PC outputs VGA or HDMI, so I'm using an HDMI to DVI cable(previous monitor is VGA and DVI only). My only gripe with this cable is that the DVI end is hard to attach/remove. I can get HDMI-DisplayPort cables or adapters, this would be so much easier to deal with than trying to screw that DVI cable in place, but I need to know if outputting HDMI into the DisplayPort is going to cause any issues with picture quality.

I see either dedicated cables or converter boxes on eBay, converter box would be cheaper and I can use whatever HDMI cable I have on hand.

I am trying to connect the HDMI port on my nVidia GeForce GT 640 video card to the DisplayPort input on my HP Compaq L2206tm monitor. This is the reverse of what is expected by cable fabricators who have lots of cables and adapters for the opposite configuration, i.e., DP on the videocard and HDMI input on the monitor. There seems to be a uni-directional vs bi-directional issue involved with DP, but I don't quite understand it. Anyway, the uni-directional choices I am seeing are in the wrong direction. Anybody dealt with this and what is your advice for me?

Hi, I just installed my windows 7 (64x) again (after formatting the hard-drive) but now I have a problem with the audio from displayport to hdmi. I can't transfer the voice from laptop to TV anymore. I checked almost everything. Disabled the video and audio cards, set the AMD HDMI output as a default device or even disabled the rest but nothing worked so far. My display: AMD mobility radeon HD 5000 Any suggestions?

Hi @sasan79, Thank you for your inquiry. I grasp that you have formatted the drive and reinstalled Windows 7, but now you do not have audio on the TV.  Previously it was working fine. Have you done all your Windows updates?  Have you run the HP Support Assistant?  Have you run the Windows troubleshooter? Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting HDMI Display and Sound Issues that may also help. Please let me know the results. Please let me know if this resolves the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution".  To simply say thanks, click the ?Thumbs Up? below!    If you require further assistance let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help.

I own an HP 8440p with the NVS3100 graphics card. I have tried all suggestions regarding getting the DisplayPort to pass audio through a DP-to-HDMI adapter with no success. I have even tried purchasing multiple adapters in the hopes of findingone that worked, even HP's own pricey adapter.  Can I conclude that it is now settled that the HP 8440p with the discreet NVS3100 (not the integraed Intel Graphics) simply cannot be made to pass audio from the DisplayPort to to an HDMI adpter? If the answer is that it cannot then I will start shopping for a new laptop with a native HDMI and not the troublesome DisplayPort. Thanx, Redlyne

Hi gang,

I have a asus z87pro mobo. i currently have a dsub monitor and dvi monitor plugged into the appropriate ports and both monitors display independent desktops under win7 64bit quite nicely.

My specific question is:

which adapters would allow me to connect 2 additional dsub 1900*1200 monitors to both the hdmi socket and the displayport socket, so that i run a total of four monitors.

I have seen this :
PC HDMI to VGA SVGA RGB HDTV Video Cable Converter Adapter PS3 XBOX 360 Apple TV | eBay

and this
Display Port Male to SVGA/ VGA Female Adapter Convertor Changer Cable Lead Wire | eBay

But i am unsure whether they would both allow me to run a further 3rd and 4th connected pair of dsub monitors.

Can you advise?

Hello. We have connected a HP 8200 Elite to our Samsung TV with a displayport to hdmi converter 1 year ago, and it worked well. A week ago we bought a new TV table and after reconnecting the HP 8200 to our Samsung TV we get no signal to the TV.Yesterday I tested to connect a HP monitor with displayport to the HP 8200 with a displayport cable, and it did work.Today I was and switched the displayport to hdmi converter at the Kjell & CO reseller, BUT WE STILL GET NO SIGNAL TO THE SAMSUNG TV. I have connected a monitor with the RGB contact / cable, and have tested to change the display settings to make it work, BUT WITH NO SUCCESS. Could a straight displayport to hdmi cable solve the problem? Regards Roger

I am plugging a HDMI cable into the HDMI port on a Dell E5440 laptop and the other end of the cable, which is Display Port, into a Dell P1914S monitor.
Nothing shows on the external monitor no matter what I do or try on either the laptop or monitor?  I have tried this on a Dell E7000 series laptop also with no result on that one either?
Does the HDMI port on Dell laptops support video or do I need to utilise some other means of connecting a second monitor.  Bear in mind there is no VGA output on these laptops.
Thanks in advance

Display port is NOT bidirectional. You can go from DISPLAY PORT OUT to HDMI IN but you CANNOT GO HDMI OUT to DIsplay port in.
I would suggest an HDMI to VGA adapter.

Hi BenZion,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with Display port on your ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

Have you checked with updating Graphic drivers and BIOS update?
If you have any difficulty in finding the drivers, please share the MTM number & OS (Operating System) of your device so that I can assist you with the drivers.

Hope this helps!

I can't seem to find the documentation I found on a forum but the intial batch of slim docking stations WILL NOT allow 2 dp at the same time.  It is due to the architecture of the of the laptop and the docking station.  In order for two dp at the same time, you  will need to buy the 2013 one.  (I will try to find the product number for you).  Their workaround was to use VGA and DP at the same time, which you have already figured out. Update: Looks like the page is not found, however, the title says it all. "Alert: Dual display limitations of 2013 HP UltraSlim Docking Station with HP EliteBook Folio 9470m N..." Update #2:  Found it attached.    Can't upload pdf files

My 15 R2 has an AMD R9 395X discrete GPU.  When using just the laptop itself, I don't have issues with the switchable graphics, the Intel 530 works when it should and switches to the R9 when gaming.  When I connect an external monitor (Dell U2415 Ultrasharp) via a USB-C to DisplayPort (1.2) Cable to the monitor, it only uses the 530 graphics - even for games in High Performance mode.  In games where I can select the GPU I want to use - only the 530 shows up, and the AMD Settings states that there aren't any displays connected to it.  Both drivers for the respective GPUs are the current versions as posted by Dell.
Is this a known issue that is being worked on, or should I be opening a support ticket with both Dell and AMD?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

A:HDMI Sound randomly not working - test in settings gets it working?

This sounds like a problem with the video driver pack (also includes hdmi audio driver)
I would completely remove what you have now then download and reinstall the latest fresh again.
It could just be a glitch in the matrix so to speak.

Hi all,
Hours I've tried to get this to work. I'm trying to do this for my dad.......he has a Dell Inspiron laptop Window 7 and a Samsung LED TV. I'm on port HDMI2 on the TV from the PC.
I have tried everything but it says "source is not connected..." I tested the cable with the blue ray player and it works fine. I called Dell (still under warranty) an they were useless.I've checked the settings on the PC and I have it set to "extended" so I can see the monitor on luck.
Anyone have any suggestions? Is it a setting on the TV that I am missing?
Thanks in advance,

A:HDMI to HDMI PC to TV not working

I would set the monitors to duplicate each other until getting a picture. That is slightly less complicated than extended.

What resolution(s) are supported by the TV? At least once when trying to use a TV with a PC I had to set the resolution on the PC to one the TV supported before it would begin working.

A:M92p SFF - Graphics upgrade; PCIe 2.0 vs 3.0

The GTX 750 Ti could work with a SFF M92p.   Upgrade to the latest BIOS beforehand, CD ISO method is most reliable.   Check that there aren't any taller heatsinks on the motherboard that could interfere with the graphics card (refer to photos of the card.)
Since your system is older, to ensure the necessary airflow, clean the front air intake and fan with vacuum and canned compressed air, jam the fan with a cable tie or similar so it can't spin and over-speed.  Same for CPU fan and heat sink, and vac the intake and rear exhaust of the power supply.

I can confirm that this MSI brand low-profile  GTX 750 Ti 2GB  card works perfectly in my M93p SFF machine without upgrading the PSU:   MSI N750-Ti-2GD5TLP
Measuring the power draw running Prime95 (CPU benchmark) , FurMark (GPU benchmark) , charging mobile phone via USB and copying large files at the same time , it stays below 190W.   Have been running this for several hours. I have also been playing Fallout 4 (FullHD, ultra textures, 60 FPS) for 100 hours without any problems.   As the case is quite compact, I was worried about the temperature but it stays below 80C for the GPU at full power over extended periods of time (about 25C ambient temp in the room).
Installation is ok. Just mount the low profile bracket and move the PCIe 1x WiFi card (if you have one) into another slot.  Preferably leave an empty slot next to the graphics card.

I took out the HDMI cable from my PC monitor about half an hour ago and when I plug it back it and seek it gets to HDMI 1, goes to a black screen and stops seeking as if something should be displayed.

I have connected a VGA cable from my desktop to my monitor and it displays fine, but the HDMI still does not work. The HDMI cable definitely works as I have tested it with my Xbox and TV. I have a GTX560 Ti and I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, but it still does not work.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Was this a science experiment ? Why did you remove your video cable ?

Don`t start removing drivers and what not, work the problem, shut everything down, unplug everything from it`s power source. Plug both cables into the monitor then start changing the input, when it works on the hdmi setting, remove the vga cable.

A:HDMI not working

Hi msc1984,
Thanks for posting.
Check to make sure you have the correct cable, and that your settings are configured to display to the television.
Here is an explanation of the cables:
Standard HDMI CableThe Standard HDMI cable is designed to handle most home applications, and is tested to reliably transmit 1080i or 720p video – the HD resolutions that are commonly associated with cable and satellite television, digital broadcast HD, and upscaling DVD players.   Standard HDMI Cable with EthernetThis cable type offers the same baseline performance as the Standard HDMI Cable shown above (720p or 1080i video resolution), plus an additional, dedicated data channel, known as the HDMI Ethernet Channel, for device networking. HDMI Ethernet Channel functionality is only available if both linked devices are HDMI Ethernet Channel-enabled.   Standard Automotive HDMI CableSupports up to 720p/1080i (does not support HDMI Ethernet Channel). Since an automotive system may be wired with one or more internal relays that can affect signal strength, the Standard Automotive HDMI Cable needs to send a stronger signal than other cables types, so it is tested to higher performance standards.   High Speed HDMI CableThe High Speed HDMI cable is designed and tested to handle video resolutions of 1080p and beyond, including advanced display technologies such as 4K, 3D, and Deep Color. If you are using any of these technologies, or if you are connecting your 1080p display to a 1080p content source, such as a Blu-ray Disc player, this is the recommended cable.   High Speed HDMI Cable with EthernetThis cable type offers the same baseline performance as the High Speed HDMI Cable shown above (1080p video resolution and beyond), plus an additional, dedicated data channel, known as the HDMI Ethernet Channel, for device networking. HDMI Ethernet Channel functionality is only available if both linked devices are HDMI Ethernet Channel-enabled.
If you need additional assistance, please post back and the experts here can answer.  Thanks.

Sometimes the laptops need to be told that an external display is connected. Others may have the ability to automatically detect it; its hard to tell one way or the other. My Dell Mini 10 auto-detects a monitor while my Dell Latitude does not.

Anyway, you should be able to press Fn+F8 to cycle between your monitor types (laptop display, external display, and laptop and external display). Try connecting your Asus laptop and pressing that key combination to see if it will show the image on your TV.

Hope this helps!

Everything is connected properly, the TV is set to the correct HDMI channel, and my laptop is otherwise fine. This happens even when I try to connect through the graphics card settings directly. Just wondering if, and how, I can troubleshoot an oddity I have. We run a number of this model Lenovo and decided they would be better with 8Gb of RAM, up from the original 4Gb. All went smoothly until one PC emitted a musical alert on booting after the upgrade, which stopped when I removed the new RAM. I checked I had the new RAM in the correct slot, blue just like the original stick. I tried the suspect stick in the next box and it is fine. Where do I start looking to find out what is going on? Regards, Granville.

A:Thinkcentre m92p memory upgrade failed

I would repace the original 4GB with upgrade memory, test to see if it boots, and then put original memory into upgrade slot and test, if it fails, that slot is probably bad.   You could use it in the other bank, won't be as fast, but you'll have 8GB.
After any memory upgrade or change, I suggest running a couple of passes of MemTest86, the free version, to ensure all is well.

I am considering buying an HDMI splitter to get around a problem I now have when streaming music only from the Internet Currently I have about a ft cable running from the HDMI output on my computer to my Samsung TV With this setup everything works fine I HDMI Can I and Outputs HDMI Non-HDMI With Use Device? Splitter can watch Youtube videos or Can I Use HDMI Splitter Outputs With HDMI and Non-HDMI Device? Netflix movies The thing that I don t like is that if I want to just stream music for several hours I have to leave the TV on since the audio connection from the TV to my receiver is not a pass thru It is only live when the TV is on I am wondering if I can use an HDMI splitter to solve this problem What I plan to do is to connect the computer HDMI output to the input on the splitter Then use one of the splitter s outputs to go to the Samsung TV and the other one to go to my receiver via an HDMI-to- Channel Stereo Y-adapter Just wondering if the connection to the non-HDMI device via the Y-adapter will upset the functioning of the splitter What about the the EDID handshaking and HDCP signal that HDMI sources and displays need in order to function Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version OS Version Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack bit Processor AMD Athlon tm II X Processor x Family Model Stepping Processor Count RAM Mb Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD Mb Hard Drives C Total - MB Free - MB D Total - MB Free - MB E Total - MB Free - MB F Total - MB Free - MB G Total - MB Free - MB H Total - MB Free - MB Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer INC M A -M Antivirus Norton Security Suite Updated Yes On-Demand Scanner Enabled nbsp

I recently unplugged my HDMI cable from my gpu (980ti), once I plugged it back in, the monitor didn't detect any signal. My computer can't find any other monitor, only my main display. Already tried to switch between HDMI cable but still nothing. the HDMI port itself still looks pristine. I don't know why it isn't detecting the second monitor anymore.

It may be a setting in your laptop, but I can't be more specific not knowing what laptop you have.  I have a Toshiba Satellite L755 laptop with a HDMI port that works fine with my LG TV and a Dell Inspiron 620 with HDMI out that works fine with my Vizio TV.
Good luck.

So I bought this kind of HDMI cabel
I have a HDMI port on the backside of my case and my motherboard should support it.
So one end going into the HDMI port on the case and the other one goes into the TV, but my computer is not recognizing it.
I'm trying to dual screen, I have a normal PC monitor which is working fine, however the HDMI for the monitor looks like this and works just fine, what could the error be?

A:TV not working with HDMI cable

Are you trying to use the graphics card and onboard graphics?
You can only use one.
IE: use the DVI and the mini HDMI from the graphics card.

Please can someone help me.
I have an acer predator laptop which has windows 10 installed. My HDMI port used to connect an additional monitor stopped working and I can't figure out why. The Intel HD graphics as well as the NVIDIA graphics are all up to date but it is still not working. The HDMI port is functional as it works when booting into a Linux OS.
Can someone please advise as to what could possibly be the problem

Kindest regards

The graphics are just onboard graphics ATI Radeon 4250. I've been running this to my LCD Tv for almost a year now. Yesterday I unplugged it for a while and left it running, eventually plugging in a VGA monitor. When I went to switch back in the HDMI it doesn't recognize the TV whatsoever.

I go into properties and click detect, nothing. I went into the CCC and nothing. I've tried multiple cables and whatnot and still nothing. Seriously what the hell happened that all of a sudden my HDMI port won't work?

A:HDMI no longer working

Well if its broken its broken all you can do is RMA it. However its also possible its a driver thing, try uninstalling and reinstalling them.

Since upgrading my HP Pavilion laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 my HDMI port has not worked at all. It was working fine previously. I have been searching for a resolution for a few months now and been unable to find one. Every time I try to upgrade my Intel Graphics driver via the HP site it states "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software" Any help would be brilliant as I need my laptop for presentations at work and it is almost useless to me now! **bleep** you Windows 10!!! Spoiler (Highlight to read)

Hi: I explored the driver folder and the driver listed on the support page for your notebook seems to support the Pentium N graphics your notebook has, so I am at a loss as to why the driver doesn't work. See if this works...If you have deleted the driver folder, download and run the driver again.  Close out of any error windows. This package provides the driver that enables the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver. File name: sp72369.exe Go to the device manager and click to expand the display adapters device category. Click on the Intel display adapter listed there (or the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter if that is what you see). Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.  Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file. That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp72369. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if the driver installs that way. Then restart the PC. If that doesn't work try installing the W8.1 graphics driver. This package provides the driver that enables the IntelHigh-Definition (HD) Graphics in supported notebook models that arerunning a supported operating system. If high-definition multimediainterface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package alsoinstalls the HDMI Audio Driver. File name: sp65413.exe

Hi there guys!Im having an issue with the HDMI output of  my laptop. Model is HP 14r-003la, was purchased 10 months ago and it came with WIN8.1.I installed windows 7 Ultimate 64bits a couple weeks ago, and after the windows update process retreived all the needed packages , I verified this issue started. So, I tried to download the video driver from the HP website, but when trying to install it, says "your computer does not meet the minimum requirements". The OS has Service Pack 1 installed.I did not find any other post with the same issue. Video is working, but the HDMI output is the problem here.Would appretiate some help on it. Thanks!!

I'm a little confused here

I have two monitors, a Samsung S23B350 and a HP 2159m

I tried to connect a DVI-D to HDMI cable to both of my monitors but nothing displays. It doesn't matter what end is connected to the PC, both dont work. But in the long run the DVI end has to be connected to the PC if I want to duel screen because I only have 1 hdmi output.

HDMI-HDMI works fine though, on both monitors.

Is it because it is a DVI-D to HDMI cable? Should I just buy a DVI-D to DVI-D cable? or am I just doing something wrong?

My graphics card is a HD Radeon 6950 if that matters.

A:HDMI - DVI-D cable not working

The HP has DVI-D, HDMI, and VGA. Use a DVI-D cable for this monitor.

The Samsung has HDMI and VGA. Use an HDMI cable for this monitor.

What ports does the video card have? Have you enabled the second monitor in the AMD Catalyst Control Center?
