My client told me this was a touch screen, so that is what I ordered. HP 749970-001 touch screen display assembly. It is installed, but not recognized. In order to use it as a touch screen, would I have to replace the motherboard too?Is there a driver available? The display works, it is just not working as a touch screen.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I have G41 M/B + Core 2 Duo .2.40G E4600 & 2Gb GSkill RAM (F3-10600CL9S-2GBNT, DDR3-1333 PC3-10600)
Now I want to Add More 4GB + current 2gb.
Which RAM will compatible with my above configuration.
If you are planning on using the current RAM also than you should stick with same RAM manufacture. You will have less issues that way. Without knowing exactly what your motherboard make and model is (G41 does not supply enough information about whom the manufacture is and what model), I am unsure how many RAM slots you have total and how many are in use). Try this link (Newegg - GSkill RAM) and you can choose which one fits your budget.
I recently decided I'm going to start using my old laptop again. I swapped the hard drive for an SSD and I'm quite pleased with the performance boost that got me. I am now looking for a ram upgrade from 2gb to 8gb.
I have a Dell inspiron n4010.
I went to crucial's website and did the system scan. The scan said that this would fit my needs.
Unfortunately, crucial doesn't ship to me. I'm forced to look elsewhere. I looked for something similar on another store's website. My question to all the experts out there is: will 2 of these work with my laptop and get me the 8gb of ram I need?
thanks for the help!
Yes. The specs are exactly the same. Over the years I have used both Kingston and Crucial many times for memory upgrades and both are excellent.
You can also do a memory scan at Dell's own website. Just don't buy what they offer because they'll tell you to only buy genuine Dell memory blah, blah, blah. The Kingston will do you quite fine.

I have an older eMachines Desktop PC model EL1360G which has a 200 watt power supply.
I would like to upgrade it to at least a 400 watt power supply.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to where or what I should buy? I watched a few videos on youtube on how to do the replacement but how do I know all the plugs on the new unit are the same and will fit? Because if they don't, I'll be more confused than I already am.
Check and make sure all the connectors are the same as the ones you have
I'm not certain if the image above is what you have but I'm thinking it is.
Image above looks to have:

1x 4pin (P4)
2x SATA power
Does your power supply have these and only these?

Hey, im planning on upgrading either my cpu or my gpu, and I need to know what would give me a more
noticeable increase in performance in gaming.
The gpu I currently have is a gtx 760, and my cpu is an i5 - 4430 3ghz
the cpu I'd upgrade to is an i7 - 4790k 4ghz, and the gpu I'd get is a gtx 970.
So which one should I upgrade?
The i5 is considered the so-called sweetspot for gaming and since games are gpu intensive I would upgrade the gpu first.
A few questions for you:
1. How much RAM do you run?
2. Are you getting any lag in gaming? What is your current average FPS?
3. What do you hope to gain that would make your gaming experience noticeably increased?
, Make and wattage output of your power supply?
I've got a Dell Inspiron 9400.
For a few years now the left half of the screen is really dark, with the other side normal brightness and a noticeable divide between the two. This only happens when the power supply is plugged in, the screen is fine when running off the battery.
I remember at the time doing a quick search and reading that it was likely to be a faulty battery, so that was replaced but didn't make a difference. Very few searches come back with an exact match of my situation, but keep seeing to detach the LCD cables and make sure they're in good condition yet haven't seen any success stories.
Does anyone know the problem?
Does attaching an external monitor show the same problem?
I don't really know a lot about upgrading my computer. Any help would be great. Thanks.
I forgot to mention I am trying to make it run games like CS:GO and DayZ at a reasonable level.

2. What parts you would advise me to get
3. Where can I find some that will fit

Hey guys. Please forgive my ignorance, but I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to computers. I would like to upgrade my video card and I'm not sure which card to choose. I have an HP Pavilion Elite m9452p. I'm not exactly sure what specs you need, so please let me know if you need more info.
processor model: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200
memory: 8 GB
processor speed: 2.33 GHz
memory speed : PC2-6400

power suppy: Cooler Master 550w
Any info you can provide will be very much appreciated.
I own a custom laptop on an MSI 16F2 platform. Few weeks ago my GTX 670M card died.
Out of better options, I bought an used GTX 660M from an acquaintance.
I had it installed, started Windows and everything looked OK. Then I installed the Nvidia drivers and after reboot, right after the loading screen, I got a black screen (with the screen still lit).
I went into Safe mode and uninstalled the driver. Then installed again and got the same result. Went into Bios, change settings, tried resetting CMOS, nothing worked. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate again, then Windows 8, same thing. I also tried the driver modding instructions on this forum, still nothing.
I have no clue what is wrong. If you have any idea, please help me with this.
I have connected the laptop to an external monitor and it works with the Nvidia driver installed. The laptop screen works just fine without the drivers. I would really appreciate any form of help. Is it maybe the BIOS?
I am looking to upgrade the GPU on this PC but I am unsure if the PSU will be able to support it. I am not looking to install a high end GPU only a low end card such as ASUS 2 GB AMD Radeon R7 240-2GD3-L PCIe. I am aware that the PSU has a max of 220w but I am unsure of the current load. Based on the basic system with no current upgrades are you able to advise me on this?
Basic specs are:
Windows 7 64 Bit
Intel Core i3 2120
Intel HD Integrated Graphics
2 HD (1 SATA 1GB)
1 Optical Drive
Realtek HD Audio
If necessary I am able to disconnect 1 HD and the optical drive as they are not necessary, also to disable the onboard graphics if possible if this will help.

I have an Emachines D525 laptop. I have the specs listed below. I need help because feel that it could run faster if it was given a better processor to run on. I would like to know what processors I could upgrade to. Thank you!
Processor: Intel Celeron CPU 900 @2.20 GHZ, 2194 Mhz
RAM: 3.00 GB
OS: Windows 7
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies LTD V1.16
Anything else needed, please let me know!
You can change your hd for ssd at least 100 GB . Buy a case for external HD, and use the original hd of her machine, as the same external hd . replace the memory of 1 GB for a 2 GB . Your D525 will be very fast.
Hi my daughter tried to adjust the resolution and now the screen is Black and stuck on Out Of Range. I cannot even get it safe mode or anything. Just a black screen with the writting. It's a windows xp 32. My son is so sad if anyone knows what to do please help. Thank you.
Repeatedly press F8 while the system is booting.. The very first stuff you see on screen will either be your motherboard splash screen or some text. When you get to the menu where you can make a selection, choose VGA mode NOT Safe Mode. That will boot your computer at 640x480, but it will boot with full driver support, just as if things were normal. Change the resolution to what you want after that.
Remember if you change it to something that goes 'out of range' DO NOT touch anything for 15 seconds. It will revert back to what it was after that time and you can try again.

Hello Here is a quick summary for those who don t want the whole shebang I need suggestions for a good ATX motherboard and CPU that will handle simple games like Roblox and p movie streaming I have a nearly year old desktop computer nothing special at all It is the family desktop so it will not be used for anything other than super light gaming my nephew plays Roblox CPU/Mobo upgrade non for gaming on it surfing and watching movies I bought a BenQ p monitor for my own gaming PC and connected it to both that and this desktop to give the rest of the family a bit of an upgrade I noticed right away that the computer CPU/Mobo upgrade for non gaming already performed slower with this higher resolution It is also running a -bit processor and I have a copy of windows pro bit that I want to put on that machine so I need suggestions for a CPU and mobo that will run me less than buying a new computer from scratch The parts are all good and well maintained I just want to upgrade to bit so that we can take advantage of the free upgrade to windows and possibly even adding more memory in the future if my nephew starts playing higher quality games as he gets older EDIT my only requirement is that the motherboard must be full ATX since I do not want to replace the case Any suggestions are welcome Thank you nbsp

If you do indeed have a full ATX case, it will fit mATX as well as miniITX motherboards.

Newegg has kits anywhere from $100 to $800. - http://www.newegg.com/DIY-PC-Combos/PromotionStore/ID-33/Page-6
These are nice kits for around $300
I know you said you didn't want to replace the case but for around 300 this is not a bad deal
You can find lower prices at Tigerdirect with smaller bundles. - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=14
In my opinion don't get a kit with Celeron or Pentium, unless you are planing an upgrade in the future to i5 or i7. Bewarned though that Intel pricing doesn't fall as quickly as one would hope.
As for AMD suggestions, you'll need to speak with someone else. I'm not an AMD follower. I will admit that for the best savings AMD is the way to go. But then performance wise they struggle to compare to Intel, when you match prices. Which is the very reason I advised not to get Celeron or Pentium. The i3 or comparable AMD is the perfect performance level to be. Anyone needing more power will know they need more.
Alrighty so I ve been wanting to CPU Upgrade upgrade my CPU lately I ve been looking at the AMD FX- but that runs at about I ve also been looking at the FX- which is about cheaper I mainly use my computer for gaming rarely do I render videos or use photoshop So basically what I m wanting is a good cpu that will give me higher fps performance faster loading blah blah Is the really worth the extra bucks for current CPU Upgrade games I ve read a few reviews and comparisons on people saying current games don t even use the cores the provides So would it be a better decision to go with the With my current motherboard I know I would have to upgrade it as well to be able to run the If they re any other cpu s below that you guys think would be a better buy then let me know Here are my specs I m running a Windows Home Premium -bit SP CPU AMD FX- GRAPHICS AMD RADEON HD MOTHERBOARD Gigabyte GA- LMT-USB RAM GB Single-Channel DDR MHz STORAGE GB Western Digital WDC WD AAKX- ERMA ATA Device SATA Hopefully that s everything you need to give me a good idea I d rather not spend the money on a new motherboard but if it s worth it I will Also if you guys have any suggestions on other upgrades like my ram or hd let me know Thank you nbsp
Also, I'm open to other cpu suggestions, even tempted to swtich to intel if it'll make my games smoother.
The Samsung rv510 laptop I have has a rubber plug blocking the HDMI port.
I assume it's because they use the "Case/Shell" for multiple models and this one does not come with it.
My questions:.... Are these built into the mobo or is there a Video card I could replace inside?
I'm assuming it's onboard in which case I will need to get a VGA+3.5mm audio to HDMI adapter in order to make this work?
My newest task is centered around an HP Pavilion 15-p033ca laptop with a broken screen. Replacing the screen is actually super simple but my issue lies elsewhere.
Normally I would hook the laptop up to a monitor via VGA cable. This newer laptop only has an HDMI hook-up, so I hooked it up to my TV with that cable. The HP logo upon start up is semi-visible as the picture is distorted. So, before I spend money and order the screen my question is...
Does an HDMI relay the Broken screens picture to the TV and that's why is messed up? or should the TV picture still be clear? Like when a broken screen laptop is hooked to an external monitor with a VGA and the external monitor works fine.
I'm worried there may be an internal GPU or Mobo issue aside from the screen being broke.... Finally is there a better way I can test this instead?
Thanks for any info or Ideas in advance!
I am having an intermittent issue with my screen not waking up. It goes to sleep after 10 minutes normally but just occasionally it doesn't come back on. usually I have to reboot the pc. I tried a different monitor which worked fine, when I reconnected my normal monitor it also worked fine. The monitor power light flashes to indicate its in sleep mode but doesn't want to wake despite moving mouse or pressing keyboard. The graphics card is only a couple of months old and the screen is over 5 years old.
This problem only happens maybe once a month, the rest of the time it works as normal. Any suggestions gratefully received.
First, are you doing anything specific when this occurs, I.e. a particular game, video rendering, etc.? Second, is there dust build-up in your system? Check especially your video card fan.

It appears you have a portable device that likely doesn't have upgrade options. If your device maker doesn't list upgrade options on their website, you can likely scratch this idea.
Portables (Phones, Tablets, Netbooks, and Notebooks) are not designed with upgrading in mind. They are small and very limited with cooling capabilities. And most of the time everything is integrated in small form factors and can not be replaced.
I recently upgraded my system by installing a new motherboard, MSI Z87 Gaming, my old mobo was a MSI K9A2GM-FIH; a new CPU, Intel Core i5-4590, LGA1150, the old one was an AMD 64 Dual core. Also, installed compatible RAM. Everything is working fine, but I'm not sure I'm using the Intel Chipset. When I run diagnostic programs, it's still showing my system as being AMD64 build. I'm not sure what I have missed, but I need to know how to change my system to recognize my new chipset.
Did u do a fresh install of windows? It is advised to do so!
Hi guys, while playing DOTA 2 (on lowest settings), I am experiencing the problem that my FPS is down to 30 almost all of the time. This started about a month ago and is really annoying to me, which is why I decided to updgrade my hardware in order to fix this problem. Now I am facing the problem though that I have no idea which parts of my hardware cause the low performance and thus need to be exchanged, some help would be very much appreciated.
I have the Medion Erazer X6817 with the following hardware:
CPU: Intel Core i7-2670QM @ 2.20 GHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M
RAM: 4GB DDR3
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit
Some Additional Facts:
I use a LG 24MPHQ Monitor to display the game at 1920x1080 resolution
When playing RAM usage is constantly at about 3,2 GB, CPU Usage pending between 15 and 45
So what part of my notebook do I have to upgrade to improve my FPS?
If you can upgrade your RAM to 8 gigs that might help; it seems to be the sweet spot for gaming. Otherwise Dota 2 is not that demanding on hardware.
As one who is experiencing League of Legends disconnects I have found through the help of jobeard and Rage_3K_Moiz that it probably has to do with my internet connection. Here are 2 that I ran (both are safe) to check for Packet Loss:
Hi, am prepared to be labelled "thick as mince" however I wonder if anyone can advise how to proceed with the following: Replaced cracked laptop screen on a TM99, on first start up after replacement, the screen worked.....woohoo!, however.....on next startup, there was nothing, no lights, no start up screen...nada. Replaced new with original screen, which although cracked had worked, and it too now failed. Any ideas? The cable for the screen was seated properly and securely, nothing else was moved so am struggling to establish a reason for this non conformance. Could it possibly be a jammed "lid closed" switch? If this is potentially the culprit, anyone know whereabouts it is? Thanks
I am planning on upgrading my computer eventually so that I can play Star Wars Battlefront 3 when it is released at ultra super eye candy settings with extra bling bling with 60 FPS when it is released.
I am currently running the following setup :
i5 4570. Never goes over 40c under load.
GTX 780ti HoF
8 GB RAM Corsair vengeance
So I can play most games today without any issues, but I had some issues with Farcry 4 on ultra settings (runs fine on High most times ) so now I am worried if I can run Battlefront 3 when it comes.
So my thoughts are if I should only upgrade my CPU and it might be enough?
OR if I should get another 780ti Hof to run SLI? This worries me though since I have had my current 780ti for about 1 year and it would suck if it would break in a year and I would be stuck with 1 card and the whole investment would be for nothing (Or very expensive atleast)
First, before investing anymore $ what are the publisher's recommended specs for Battlefront 3?
Second, there is some spirited debate whether or not the performance increase using SLI or Crossfire is really worth the cash layout. Personally, IMO, the cost compared to actual performance increase isn't worth it.
Third, the i5 is the sweet-spot for gaming.
* So find out first what the recommended specs are and take it from there...
So I've been thinking about upgrading my GPU from a GTX 760 2gb to a GTX 980 but I'm not sure if I have to buy a new Power Supply aswell. I'm using a 650W power supply.

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660 with a blank screen. The laptop starts up and goes through its boot cycle fine, but nothing is displayed on the screen.
I've read through tons of forums, but nothing seems to work.
I did the whole removal of battery, power supply and holding the power button for 60 secs... still blank...
When plugging in an external monitor it works perfectly fine, so this eliminates any issues with the CPU / GPU / RAM / HDD, etc.
I re-installed windows 7, which would hopefully eliminate any software issues.
Next logical step was to check the LCD backlight, inverter and ribbon cable... So I replaced the screen, but still blank screen. Just as a side note, the backlight lights up with both old and new display, but no picture.
This leaves me to think that it might be something in the BIOS?
Any suggestions / ideas?

Hi there, have you tried hooking up to an external monitor? This will help you determine if it's a problem with the screen or logic board.
Hello, I was recently given a Dell Dimension 2400 from a friend. It had absolutely no upgrades, however I had old parts sitting around and I gave it a bit of an upgrade. I put in 4gb of ram (however found out it had only supported up to 2gb, so I had to remove a card) and added a Visiontek Radeon 9200 graphics card in. Now, I have two processors here that look like the might fit, but I wasn't sure. So, I was hoping to get a second opinion from someone who has a bit more experience with this than I do. I have two spare processors
one of them is a Pentium 4 3.00Ghz (http://ark.intel.com/products/27479...g-HT-Technology-2M-Cache-3_00-GHz-800-MHz-FSB)
the other is a Pentium 4 1.6Ghz (http://ark.intel.com/products/27424/Intel-Pentium-4-Processor-1_60-GHz-256K-Cache-400-MHz-FSB)
Would either of them work? Also, would upgrading to windows 7/vista increase the support for ram? Thank you.
Pentium 4 3.00Ghz is LGA775
Pentium 4 1.6Ghz is PPGA478
That is two different architectures.
Specs for Dell Dimension 2400
Intel Pentium 4 that runs at 2.2 or 2.4 GHz
internally and 400 MHz externally, or 2.266, 2.4,
2.53, 2.66, 2.8, or 3.06 GHz internally and 533 MHz
Intel Celeron that runs at 2.0, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5,
2.6, or 2.7 GHz internally and 400 MHz externally.Click to expand...
Please note this would be PPGA478 architecture not LGA775.

I have a Packard Bell Easynote TE69KB laptop and the screen is either black or very dark, sometimes at the right angle you can just see the graphics, This started after the 18mth old son hit the top of the screen yesterday. I have tried adjusting brightness without change, with an external monitor plugged in it works fine, which is OK if I'm working at home but no good when I'm out. I am thinking I'm going to have to change he screen or can you make any other suggestions?
Your son has probably damaged or loosened the screen inverter. That is what lights up the screen and is a separate part. It can be found under the screen bezel. I don't think that this will cost much to fix. If you DIY read up about the job first because removing the bezel (frame) needs to be done carefully.

Your options for this HP Laptop is: upgrading your RAM to 8GB (or more depending on how much max RAM the laptop allows) & changing the Hard Drive from the 5400 rpm to either a 7200 rpm or better yet a SSD. Laptops are not component swappable like the Desktop computers are. Most laptops have parts soldered in on the motherboard. You might be able to eliminate some "Lag" with the RAM and Hard Drive changes, but if you are looking for a drastic improvement, I would suggest a laptop more suited for gaming.

As far as I can tell, Nvidia doesn't support Surround (three monitors) via daisy-chaining (the card in the video was AMD Radeon). You might be able to get two monitors to work like that - some sort of DisplayPort MST support was added a while ago because of tiled 4k displays - but to get them all working they need to be plugged to the card directly.
As GTX750 doesn't have proper connectors, you might need to change your graphics card to something that has three DP outputs or 2xDP + HDMI.
I run two displays. When I got up this morning, one of them is on but black. When trying to adjust my display settings, it comes on briefly (maybe 3 seconds) and goes right back off again.
System specs are as follows:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

I have checked all drivers and windows shows they are up to date. Both displays were fine as of about 1 AM this morning, and to my knowledge no updates or downloads were done during this time.
Any help would be appreciated; I work from home and having dual monitors is almost critical.
Try changing cables first, by some chance the cable has gone bad.
Sounds like it could be a lighting issue within the monitor. If it is a backlight issue, the monitor will still be displaying an image. You will not be able to see the image without some kind of lighting. If you can use a flashlight to expose the image, you would at least know it is a backlighting issue. I've been able to use this technique on phones as well as monitors.
Hello hello After having a problem with my cd dvd drive I rebooted my computer and did a clean install of Windows from my Vista So right now I m running Windows Windows not install (Touch/slider) FN - 7 Clean Keys working I have a VAIO - VGN-CS J Windows looks and feels great so far The only problem is my little sliding touch pad at the top doesn t work I don t know if it s FN keys but on top of my keyboard there s a little sliding touch pad for volume along with a fast forward rewind key I used to be able to slide the volume up from there but now it s not working I looked it up and I know this has to do with my clean install of windows I tried installing a bunch of drivers like everyone said online Sony Shared Libraries Vaio Event Notebook Control Device And a bunch of other drivers that people talked about I don t know what s wrong but it s still not working so I did a system restore to before I installed everything so that I can have a clean slate Can someone please help me fix my volume control slider please Thank you so much nbsp
Laptops have extras over and above Windows and if you reinstall the OS or upgrade it you lose these. I've been there and done that with the FZ. It was broken when I bought it and the hard drive had been removed. Fixing the computer was very hard, installing Windows 7 was easy. Afterwards, like yourself I found that the function keys didn't work. Trawling forums and looking for drivers then sorting it out took ages and that was the most challenging part of the whole exercise. Everything necessary was on the Sony support sites but these were not user friendly and I needed to use several Sony sites. Needless to say Sony support were clueless. In the end I got everything functioning but if you can manage with things as they are I'd not bother. One tip, although it might not work with your particular Vaio model is that stuff has to be installed in a particular order otherwise some keys don't work.
That'll teach you to mess with Windows when a cd/dvd plays up.
I've been looking at this GPU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...93&cm_re=graphics_card-_-14-127-793-_-Product) and I was wondering will this work with my motherboard XFX nForce 680i LT SLI motherboard? If not, what is the best graphics card to get for my motherboard because what I have is a little outdated?
Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+
RAM: 8GB DDR2 400MHz
OS: Win 7 64
Power Supply: Corsair TX750W
Sure, it will work fine. You have plenty of PSU power for the card. If you wanted you could even go with the 660 or 760.
I was looking to upgrade my Dell Insprion 2330 all-in-one PC to a solid state drive, to improve the performance. Firstly, is this possible? If so, is it practical?
Currently I have the factory 2TB hard disk installed and it seems a shame to loose all that storage space. From what I have seen it may be possible to replace the blu-ray drive with a SSD instead? Primarily I would be looking to run my operating system of the SSD and then use the existing drive for the bulk of my storage. That being said I am not sure if I would want to loose my blu-ray player either. I don't use it all that much, but it is still nice to have it there. I understand I may need to make some compromises to make the upgrade, so hopefully someone will be able to point me in the best direction and tell me whether it is really worth it. My PC doesn't run slow my any stretch, but from what I have seen it can make a big difference!
Thanks in advance,
Technically speaking, yes you could replace the hard drive with an SSD. I have never changed anything (hardware wise) with an All-In-One unit, but it must be possible. If you are looking to keep the extra storage space, you could take the 2TB hard drive and put it in an external hard drive case and connect it to one of your two USB 3.0 ports. That way you still have storage space to use while keeping your Blu-ray drive and having a SSD for your Operating System and Programs. It wont be as fast as leaving it inside connected with a SATA cable, but it will be better then connecting it USB 2.0 or not using it at all. If you do go through with this "venture", take photos and document what you did each step and then post them up here. May come in handy for someone else in the future.
A friend of mine can't run Skyrim on minimum settings, but doesn't have a lot of income right now. (low hours)
Unfortunately, I'm not sure she'll be able to support an updated GPU.
Her motherboard is a Pegatron Benecia with a Core 2 Quad Q8300 and an GeForce 7600 GS.
Before jumping to a new card, I was wondering if this motherboard would support one, or if she'd need to update the motherboard, and CPU with the GPU.
Sorry if this is the wrong spot to post, and thanks for any help!
I would say yes it will support any PCIe x16 graphics card. Just make sure the power supply is large enough to support your purchase. I personally wouldn't spend over $150, on a graphics card for a Intel Core2 (LGA775) machine.
Fortunately I think the Core2 8300 still has a little life left. Especially for those that are on a tight budget.
Here is a site that will help you compare graphics cards if you need it. As you can see the GT 640 would be a worthy upgrade.

My laptop goes into sleep mode even on slightest jerk applied on screen to rotate it,what possibly could be wrong, and on repairing how much could it cost
Sounds like a fault somewhere in the wiring (or a "switch" that is located inside the hinges for the laptop screen. Not 100% sure but without knowing make and model of your laptop, it is my best guess.
What you can do is the following:
Select "Power Options" in the "Control Panel" list.
Click the plus sign next to "Power buttons and lid" to expand its sub-list.
Click the plus sign next to "Lid close action" to expand its sub-list.
Click the word "Sleep" to open a drop-down menu next to the power plan you wish to adjust (e.g. Plugged In). Select "Do Nothing" from the drop-down menu.
Click "OK" to save your settings and exit the window.
This should disable the sleep option, then you wont have to worry about it until you can get it fixed properly.
I recently bought a HP Pavilion 500-319a pc which has a 64 bit graphic card. I've also just bought a flight sim game that says it needs 128 bit.
Have I wasted my money or will the game still work on my PC?

Your motherboard is designed for the socket LGA 1155 series of Intel processors. The i7 4790k that you ordered is the newest Intel 4th generation of cpus called Haswell. It is a socket LGA 1150 processor and will not work in your current board as per ASRock specs.
Also, 8 gigs is more than enough for gaming. Unless you are doing video rendering and graphics intensive applications you don't need 12 or 16 gigs of RAM

I had an EVGA 780TI working great. My 980 arrived so I swapped. All I got was a black screen. After taking the card out and putting it back in a few times nothing changed. Giving up I put my 780ti back in and now that just gives me a black screen too.
Edit: My mobo gives the code A0 which is normal so I don't think it detected anything was wrong.
If your not getting an error code its probably booting up normally. It maybe defaulting to the integrated card for some reason so I would try plugging onto the on board video when booting to see what happens.
If that is the case you will just have to go into the bios and change your default video card to the PCIE.
A few days ago my laptop started doing something weird - I would watch a video on YouTube or browsing the internet when my screen would glitch out and then I am not able to do anything. Most of the times the laptop will keep on running but the screen is frozen. Yesterday I even got blue screen after that happening.
Those are the specifications. I am using Windows 7 Proffesional. My GPU is Nvidia Geforce 525M 2GB + The the graphics card that comes with the processor
What antivirus program are you running?
I'm really new to the tech/ computer world, and know next to nothing about graphics cards. I was wondering if someone could help me figure out what graphics card I can upgrade my computer to (if I can upgrade at all) I was wanting to buy the new Sims 4 game, but after having played a very slow and choppy Sims 3 for years on this computer, I'm ready to actually play a game smoothly without it freezing all the time.
Here's what computer I have:
Compaq Presario PC SR5601P
Processor: AMD Athlon X2 4400
Memory: 1 GB
Hard drive: 250 GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE Graphics
Windows Vista SP 1
Sims 4 System Requirements & your PC system results
For Sims 4 according to the link above, your CPU GPU and memory is lacking for even the minimum system specs. We can recommend a GPU, but that's not all you need if you plan on playing Sims 4. And if you get a stronger GPU, chances are you will also need a stronger PSU. If 300W's is all you have for power, you are limited to sub $100 graphic cards. Which would be fine for Sims 4, but then you also have a CPU and memory that needs upgrading.

Hi, I'm having a problem with my Dell Latitude E6400. When I'm not using it for a while the screen goes black (like into a sleeping mode) like all computers and laptops do. But if it stays black for a little while, and when I go to get back on it and move the mouse around or press the keys the screen won't turn back on but the computer is running because the light on the keyboard are lit up and I can hear the fan running. The only way I can get the screen back on is if I shut it down by pressing the power button on my keyboard and turning it back on.
Can anyone please tell me what to do or what is wrong with it. That would be much appreciated. Thank you
Being thirteen doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about.
I am running Windows 8.1. After restarts, the laptop screen would be blank, yet the computer would load. If I hooked up a 2nd monitor, it would show the desktop on that screen but laptop screen blank.
Now when I try to type on that computer (I'm currently on a different computer) the typing of the keys is all off (none of the letters actually type what they are supposed to and some open up random windows and command prompts)
I am wondering if this is a virus. Currently running Malwarebytes. I did a system restore earlier and the problem wasn't solved.
Could be a virus, but could also mean the motherboard is faulty. If still in warranty, RTM.
Does the laptop have a bootable CD reader? If so, then download and make a bootdisk of a small linux (e.g. puppy linux). Booting off that will virtually prove if the motherboard is faulty or not.
Hi, hope I've put enough specs in profile for you to help. I have a Compaq Presario 6735s I bought around 2008. CPU quite slow but graphics card not bad so made decision to upgrade. Looked up the laptop manual here to find compatible CPUs for motherboard, socket type etc. Went through 3 different (*****ic) buys before I found one that actually fitted.
Now with everything reassembled, screen will flash up once upon powering on, then nothing. All usual lights come on, even my wireless connects, makes usual start up noises, fan, dvd drive etc ....
Proceeded to take everything apart again, re-connected everything I tampered with. Even RAM, which I didn't have to remove before.
Still same reaction starting up.
Really frustrated with myself as thought this would be the right one. Could honestly cry, haha.
I read the tutorial on here called 'No POST' to no avail either. I really hope it can come back from this.
One last thing I can think of (before pulling new CPU out) is upgrading BIOS to support new CPU but with no screen I am stuck.
Can someone please give me a little direction?
Did you re-install the old CPU to see if the laptop booted normally again? Upgrading CPU's on laptop motherboards can be a very difficult thing to do. What is supposed to be compatible in reality is not
A few days ago I bought some screenwipes to clean my monitor screen & iPhone screen. They worked great on my iPhone & laptop but when I did my W7 tower I felt bumps which are from un expected sneezes & would like to know if there is another way to clean that off or if I'll just have to use more than one wipe.
You just have to put some muscle into it! I had the same sneeze marks on my screen from over the years and a bit of elbow grease was the key.
I need new mother board so im going to upgrade my CPU at the same time .its a hp laptop G62-460TX.mother board 637584-001 with CPU socket type 989 .at the moment it cpu is intel twin core m370 2.4ghz.I want to replace it with a quad core 2.5 ghz but cant find out on the net what to replace it ith or should I say I dont know how to intep.it all can some on pleas help wazza
Not trying to discourage you, but have you ever replaced a motherboard in a laptop before? I have and it certainly was a pain to get done correctly. Honestly, if you do not have much experience doing these types of things, your best bet is to buy a newer laptop. Laptops and Desktops are almost two different worlds when it comes to hardware. Changing hardware out on a desktop is easier because you have more room, whereas laptops are compact and compressed down and much more difficult to swap out parts (especially Motherboards and CPUs because they have to be compatible with the laptop casing so that you do not have spacing or heating issues). You also might run into the problem that the hardware might not connect properly to the new motherboard (ie. Laptop Monitor wires not able to connect). Again, I'm not trying to discourage you, but if you want the change to be as easy as possible, you should look for a replacement motherboard that will work as a direct swap out to the old one.

Does your current system not support SLI?
And does you PSU provide enough power for the two 660Ti?
So I managed to drop my laptop Satellite C870 - 15K to the floor. It cracked my screen (see attached) so I'm thinking of replacing the screen myself. However before I purchase the screen I wanted to make sure the laptop is still working.
When I try to connect it to my TV through HDMI to verify if the laptop is still function I get no image. I thought maybe it's in standby mode or something so I removed the battery and tried again without luck. When I start up the laptop it sounds normal but I don't hear any windows sound or anything. Any advice on how to continue?
Pull off the bottom access panel(s) and make sure the memory and hard drive are seated properly by removing them and re-installing them. It is also possible that the broken screen is shorting out the motherboards video. Try connecting the TV after you remove the LCD panel. One more thought... you have pressed the proper F key to activate the external video port?
I'm wondering whether I can overclock my ASUS R500VD notebook it has an INTEL sandy bridge core I5 3210M 2.50 GHz processor 4GB (max 8) of ram running puppy linux and windows xp home edition SP2 32 bit I have benchmarked it and ill email the results to anyone who replys and gives me their email and if you're wondering why I'm running windows xp read my article in the Alternative OS section of the forums called "If all else is too hard try puppy linux" bye
Nope sorry, the I5 3210M isn't OC enabled.
I turn-on the power on my laptop and all I see is a cycle of Red, Green, Blue, White, & Black of color on my screen. Computer was working the night before. I do not know much about troubleshooting a computer. Can anyone please give me an advice or guide if this is something I would be able to tinker to work or bring the laptop over for service.
I have a Dell XPS1730 (5 years old) with Nvidia IUPGA5D G84. Recently, upgraded to Windows 7
I appreciate your assistance.
The internal video has died. To verify this you can attach an external monitor and see if the display is normal
Can anyone help,
I have a compaq presaio cq61
the other day the screen went dark, could just see the screen in the background, scrolled through forums and decided that it could be the inverter.
Purchased and fitted a new one screen lights up fine but now is continuously pulsating. Does anyone have an idea on this, could it be the wrong inverter? or other problems.
Your help in this would be extremely appreciated.
The LCD panel could be bad...
Replaced the mobo (Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3), CPU (AMD FX-4300 Vishera), and RAM (G-Skill RipJaws 4MBx2) in an older system running WinXP (planning to upgrade to Win7 ASAP). Everything booted up just fine, but the HP keyboard and the Logitech mouse, both of which which work fine on another computer, aren't being recognized at all by the computer. No error messages, just not working. Not even lighting up. We've tried every USB port on the system, and even used a USB-PS/2 adapter to try it that way, to no avail. I'm out of things to try. My only thoughts:
1. Could USB be disabled in BIOS by default? If so, how do I change that without a keyboard and mouse, when I can't even access the BIOS?
2, Could the USB system on the new motherboard be defective? How do I test that?
3. Is there any possibility at all that it's related to the Antec 500W PSU--perhaps not enough wattage for this system? (Hard drives are all pretty old.)
Create and boot from a Knoppix Live CD (just google to find and download the ISO). If USB still doesn't work when you boot from knoppix, you know it must be either hardware or BIOS issue.
I finally got a new gaming PC on January 2013. It's an Acer Predator G3620 (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Intel Core i7 Processor 3770, Nvidia GeForce GT640 3GB, 16GB DDR3 Memory, 2TB Hard Drive, DVD-Super Multi-Drive, Wireless LAN, Multi-in-1 Media Card Reader) When I first got it, it was amazing. My settings were on Ultra and the FPS was 60. I couldn't ask for more. But it's been a year, my FPS dropped to 20-30fps on medium settings. I tried reading all these topics on how to increase fps but it did not work. So I was thinking on upgrading my computer, but the problems is, I don't know what to upgrade. So can you please tell me what to upgrade or what to do to get better performance on my computer? (Oh, and the games I play are DayZ, ArmA, Battlefield, Call Of Duty, Need For Speed, Minecraft, KSP, Assassin Creed, F1, Medal Of Honor, DCS, Flight Sim, X-Planes, War Thunder, World of Planes/Tank, etc...)
BTW, I'm a noob at computers..
I can't help you with your problem, but to get the correct help you need fast, it would help if you made your titles pertaining to your question. Rather than just "helpp", for future reference.
I have a Dell Latitude D that I dropped while in its carrying bag so even backlight Dell screen Latitude replacement no after it wasn t a real hard landing Now the backlight won t come on I swapped an entire screen assembly from an identical D and it still won t turn the backlight on I swapped the screens again and the borrowed D still works fine and mine won Dell Latitude no backlight even after screen replacement t work I didn t bother to test my screen in the borrowed D I can run an external CRT with mine and I can see the LCD display if I shine a light on it so I know the display is working and not cracked The laptop won t drive the CRT Dell Latitude no backlight even after screen replacement unless it thinks the lid is down so to use the keyboard I removed the sense magnet from the lid and taped it to the place where it would be with the lid closed I ve noticed in the past that this D often stayed fully on including the display it seemed when I closed the lid and walked away for hours Note When I tested the borrowed screen I had the sense magnet removed When the magnet is taped in place simulating lid down both the backlight and the display are off I can t see the display even when a light is shined on it but when the magnet is removed simulating lid up I get the display with no backlight It seems like the display knows whether the lid is up or down but the backlight seems to act like the lid is always down Is this possible What should I look for nbsp
Did you replace the backlight inverter?
I'm considering the upgrade above. The problem is all the reviews on both coolers were made with different cpus at different overclocking settings. I even tried to narrow the comparisons to a common denominator, like the intel stock cooler, which is sometimes present in most reviews, but even then, different cpus were used, making the info not that reliable. After some reading, I understood that the H60 is more silent and, obviously, occupies much less space, win-win situation. But regarding the performance, the info is rather cloudy.
Does anyone know anything on the subject?

Personally I have played with H60's and Hyper212's and they both offer very similar performance. I would not count that as a worth upgrade except if you want a more silent system because the Hyper212 is already such an excellent air cooler and the H60 is kinda a low end liquid cooler.
Based on my experience, the same clock on the same chip result in the H60 (The only time I tested something like this was on a Phenom II X6 1100T at 4.0ghz) being a tad bit more silent, but the overclocking headroom remains the same for the most part (Within margin of error).
If you really want to move to Liquid cooling or upgrade for better clocks and a more silent system. Either an H80 style cooler or H100i (Or a likes AIO Liquid cooler) would be the best solution to go from a Hyper212.
Hi I recently purchased a new computer and I wanna upgrade some of the parts. I would like to be able to run faster and be able to record games so what would be the best to upgrade for that?
Case - Rosewill ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Dual USB 3.0 and Four Fans
CPU - Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5 GHz
Motherboard - ASUS Z87 PRO LGA 1150
CPU Fan - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 780
RAM - Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB
SSD ? Crucial M500 120GB
HDD - Western Digital Blue 1TB
Case ? Cooler Master HAF 912
Power Supply - XFX ATX 550 Power Supply
Optical Drive - Samsung 24x SATA DVD RW
What's the problem? You should be able to record no problem.
Maybe get another dedicated HDD for it.
I am a noob at upgrading and installing parts in computers Card Upgrade Graphics I bought a gaming computer from amazon and it has been running quite well so far but I intend on upgrading the graphics card Maybe paying some-one to do it for me as I have no knowledge what so ever on how to install remove a graphics card Current PC Graphics Card Upgrade Specs that I know of Processor AMD Quad Core Graphics Card ATI HD Power Supply According to the Seller v watts As you can see I do not know much about my computer But here is a link to the product that I bought from Amazon http amzn to kaSsXv ------------------ I play games like COD Ghosts COD Modern Warfare GTA V When and IF it comes out on PC Garrys Mod WoW Portal and other high end graphics games - Overall I need a recommendation on what graphics card to buy and would it both run and fit in my computer I live in the UK and my budget is aprox Sorry if I have either posted this in the wrong thread or if I am not giving enough information Please inform me if you require more info EDIT I found some information about my computer from the amazon link here is some Product Details Processor Brand AMD Processor Type AMD BULLDOZER Quad Core Processor Speed GHz Processor Socket SocketAM Processor Count Memory RAM Size MB Computer Memory Type DDR SDRAM Hard Drive Hard Drive Size GB Hard Drive Interface Serial ATA Additional Drives DVD -RW Graphics Graphics Card Description ATI GB HDMI VGA CARD Power Supply According to the Seller v watts nbsp
With that budget and 500 watts, you should not be too limited in your purchases. One thing you need to check is if your Power Supply has a set of 6 pin connectors or 8 pin connectors because sometimes on the pre-bought machines they do not have too many.
Here is what I would recommend if you have at least 2 6 Pins available:
R9 280 £175
R9 270X £140
Those would both be excellent cards with the 280 being the best and the 270X being right below it in terms of performance. Both would be a huge step up from an HD 5450.
I have just put an asus p775 motherboard and i5 processor into my PC, reinstalled all components with no issue, PC rebooted fine back into OS (Windows 7), after anything between 10 mins and half hour the PC just switches itself off, any thought would be welcome
Is your CPU temperature running high?...Is the heatsink properly connected?...
I am fed up with my case fans being too loud despite using my NZXT Sentry fan Advice Upgrade Fan controller so I am asking for some advice from you guys as to what to upgrade them to I have a maximum budget of and plan on buying from amazon co uk I want to buy mm case fans but I really like the red LED look of my case and want to reduce the noise of my case fans but keep the red LED effect I was looking at Corsiar AF red LED series fans but the amazon reviews say they are noisy so I looked at the Fan Upgrade Advice non-LED AF series fans and from what I can tell they are quieter but I won t keep the LED look so maybe the answer is LED strips around the fans how would Fan Upgrade Advice that look would it be visible from outside the case through the grill Fan Upgrade Advice but I often do overnight downloads as my internet is painfully slow and because my PC is near my bed in my room I don t want the LEDs on otherwise I will never sleep so with the remaining fan control switch could I buy a way Y molex connector to connect the light strips I need as I will have groups of fans and only one free fan control space or will I have to fill up my last remaining quot bay on my case on a generic knob fan controller for the LEDs From my research noctua fans light strips are too expensive so does anyone have any advice on case fans that won t be heard over my stock CPU cooler and as as cheap as possible so that I can buy LED light strips too assuming I would be able to see them on the outside of the case Sorry for the rambling and the wall of text but I feel it was necessary to tell you what I am thinking Thanks again -hopgop nbsp
Try these, I own these specific fans and they are pretty quiet even under load.
They look good, and they are pretty quiet even though I have 6 running on my radiator.
Hi guys In the coming months is my to upgrade first? What th and I also start my apprenticeship in October which means I ll finally be earning a steady income I know I m definitely going to upgrade by the end of the year but I have a What to upgrade first? few questions first but first let me show you my current rig CPU AMD Phenom ii X T GHz MOBO Asus M A L microATX GPU AMD Radeon HD PSU Colors-IT W RAM Corsair Vengeance GB MHz Right so the issues I m facing here is whether I should do it all in one go and save up or do it gradually and if I do either I just want a second opinion on compatibility So I was planning on either upgrading to CPU Intel i - K GHz MOBO Gigabyte Z -HD GPU Nvidia GTX GeForce PSU Corsair CX W So I could either by the CPU MOBO and PSU together and transfer my old stuff for a few months or I could get the GPU and use that with my existing rig for a few months My questions are Would the GTX work with my current motherboard amp power supply What offers the biggest jump in gaming performance Thanks guys it s would be a great help The upgrade should cost me about in total I m not sure how much I ll get for my th and if I do whether I want to burn through it all right away so I d rather do it in or so chunks which conveniently it splits up into for CPU PSU amp MOBO and then for GPU nbsp
The GPU offers biggest jump in gaming performance, but it recommends a 600W PSU. Considering you have an old Athlon 6-core CPU that chews power, and an old no-name PSU, I wouldn't risk it.
Earlier I was surfing when the monitor went black & the laptop shut down. Simple as that/ I booted it up & no problems till a few minutes ago it happened again. Both times I had two tabs open. I'm going to save what needed in case I do a factory restore.` Vista Home Premium
Overheating..? Download Speedfan and tell us temps.
A friend complained that her pentium u5600 @ 1.33ghz 2Gb ddr3 is very sluggish. I suggested upgrading to 8Gb ddr3 ram. But after that, I found out that this particular cpu is rather slow for nowadays and I have my doubts that even with such upgrade it would get much better.
What you think?

Slow for what purpose? Basic computing or are we talking about something more?
My suggestion would be upgrade to just 4gb of ram and then go from there if the needs are just basic. You could also grab an inexpensive SSD and upgrade it with a fresh install to add some better load times.
Beyond that it would just come down to what the machine is used for.
I have a HP a1020n Pavilion I use to do audio reconditioning on, it's running WinXP. I've maxed the memory and have a terabyte drive installed already. My question is; should I bother to try to upgrade to Win7 and add a DirectX 9 video card and a better audio card to replace the onboard chip or just junk it and buy something newer with Win7 packaged with it? I've read one thread here by someone trying to install an upgraded video (Upgrading video card on HP Pavilion a1020n with ATI Radeon X1600 Pro PCI-e) and it doesn't paint a very good picture of trying to do any of this. Any thoughts/advice are appreciated.
It isn't worth the money to upgrade in exchange for the performance increase you would get.
What do you audio reconditioning with? What software? Potentially you could scrap XP, install Linux and use Audacity. Only costs you your time, no money.
I've done a fair bit of audio reconditioning of speeches recorded on cassette tapes with Audacity.
Guys I am looking for a new notebook, and I have general idea of what I want, but I am unable to find anything comparable so far (in reasonable price range, I.e. about 1,500$). Here are the specs which I've in mind:
i7 47xx Processor
8GB RAM (or higher)
GT760M (or similar range GPU)
SSD Boot drive + 1 TB HDD
15.x 1080p display
I have no preference for any brand, although, in last few years I've bought HP notebooks, generally because I have good connections there in case there is some issues
Specify dual or quad core CPU.
My dell 1905fp finally crashed after a lot of years. I'm not a gamer, but I was very happy with that monitor.
Of course they no longer make it, and I understand refurbished monitors of this type are not necessarily a good option.
I can't seem to find reviews or comparisons which point the way to other similar monitors. I'm retired and just can't afford the $600 and way up price of what I've seen so far.
I just need a basic monitor with VGA and DVI, but would like the screen performance to be decent, incl for watching movies etc.
Any recommendations, and where to get a reasonable price? Again, don't want a wide screen.
Nothing wrong with buying refurbs. They may have a few blemishes in the frame but nothing serious to keep them from functioning. I've bought a few myself and have had no issues with them. Although the monitors I bought were 20" widescreens that averaged $120 or less. For what you need/want, I wouldn't spend more than $150.
I know you said no widescreen, but movies do view better on widescreen.

1) Uninstall the all AMD software with this AMD Uninstall tool.
2) Restart your PC.
3) Download and install the latest stable driver (13.4) from here: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx
I am not very tech savvy, so I apologise in advance for my uselessness..
I'm having serious issues with my Dell, every now and then the screen will fragment violently, sometimes just part of the screen, sometimes all of it, I can move the cursor and click and open things, if I can see the screen, which is not always possible..
I believe it may be a problem with my graphics card, my Dell does not have a tower, it is the monitor and tower in one device.
It's getting to the point where I cannot submit schools tasks on time because of my system, and I am just in need of serious assistance..
It more or less is the graphics chip. If this is the case you may need to take it to a local computer repair shop.
My current computer system is-
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
Graphics Card: Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller
Total RAM: 1015.5 MB
I am saving money to upgrade it, The games I want to play are ps2 games like devil may cry 3 or pc games like league of legends with settings on medium to low and with fluidity
My budget is - 6000-8000 rupees or (90$-130$)
What should I upgrade first ?
I'll save you a bit of time. You don't need to think of this as an upgrade. You need a whole new machine. Unless I am mistaken the following specs will be incompatible with new systems.
P4 systems nearly always will not even support Core2 CPU's.
HDD is likely IDE and is not supported without the addition of an IDE card on new systems.
Memory is likely DDR, where DDR3 will likely be needed.
You started a thread asking about online games that your machine can play. Chances are common with systems of your specs to only have a 300W PSU. That would be inadequate for anything other than on-board graphics. If you are looking at AMD's APU lineup, 300W's would be fine. If not, chances are you will need a better PSU as well as dedicated graphics.
Without knowing your full system specs, it is hard to say what all you can continue using. Long story short, I cringe when I hear someone mention upgrading their P4 system. Especially if suggest USB 3.0 ports on the front case. That would definitely dictate a new case, unless an additional drivebay is open for USB 3.0 ports. By the time you consider all the new possibilities available, you would notice hardly anything from the P4 era is still usable.
cursor goes off screen to the right and bottoom i tried the video settings with the duel monitor setting and its not that nor is it my monitor itself it happened while i was messing around with toolbars and taskbars but i tried everything and nothing helps evem n system restore dont work or adjusting my video card which is a nvida 8400 gs on my win xp sp3 dell dimension 2350, i already had my integrated video card disabled so im stumped if someone can help plz do so thanx in advanced
Most problems like this are down to having the wrong Graphic card drivers installed.
If you go to the Nvidia site, select your card from the drop down boxes.
Save the driver somewhere easy to find on your pc, (desktop)
To uninstall the current drivers, go to Control panel, system, device manager.
Click on Display adapters, right-click and choose uninstall driver.
Go back to the Desktop and run the new driver installer.
Set up the display as you want in Control panel, display.
*While you are in 'Device manager', do you have a yellow warning sign next to the 'mouse and pointing devices'?
If yes, you can right click on it and choose 'Update driver'
I have a prob,whit a geforce 8800 gts 512mb.
I got it from a secondhand site and all was alright till I started to overclock
Nothing big,oc at 16% and the temp was 60*C wich aint so high. But when I started the pc next day,I got only black screen,no bios no safe mod no nothing.
I have a
pentium D 805 2.66
gigabyte ga-8i945pl-g as mobo
500 mb ram drr II/ 4 slotsX 500=2gb
acopia dual fan it-25f2 -psu
I know the mobo aint dead cuz I tested with my other gpu,and it worked
Did a bios reset-still black screen
changed the ram position
tried with other monitor
dvi-vga adapter works(I tested on the other gpu)
I noticed that now when I start the pc,the gpu fan speed doesn't change I mean its at 100% but when I had a image on the screen at the start up,the fan speed was at 100% only for 3 sec, then it changed lets say at 50% after those 3 sec.
should I try the bake fix or its a certain dead card?
Sry for my spelling mistakes hope u can give me an answer cheers.
My Hp pavilliin g7 series laptop running windows 7 home starts up with white screen and no beeps or sounds . Started freezing on Hp logo screen last week only sometimes. Id turn off and it would work on second try. About a year and a half ago I used laptop to preview windows 8. And after I reinstalled windows 7 it has been acting funny. Ie freezing and louder fan noise. I did recently update the bios and a pci device driver that never installed. But now it has white screen this morning. I shut off and powered up and still white.
I took off battery and pressed power for 10 sec plugged back in and still white. Still no noise.
Try attaching an external monitor and notice what it displays...

Have you worked on or repaired many laptops? English is not your first language?
I have the same problem When turning on the laptop screen goes to white I can hear windows starting but cannot see anything I Laptop white starts and white stays screen up connected it to an external monitor which will only display once windows has loaded I then took the whole laptop apart and discovered the LCD cable was frayed due to a faulty laptop hinge I replaced the cable and it was the same just white The problem I think is with the motherboard Laptop screen starts up white and stays white and the intergrated video card Upon taking the whole thing apart I noticed that where the video card plugs in is right where the heat sink is and the cooling fan which gets exceptional hot I figure it has fried the board to the extend the monitor will not work where it is plugged in but the external monitor will work but only when windows boots So sad to say because of the the heat this laptop puts off and if you have it sitting on your lap or bed or anywhere else that it cannot cool properly it has over heated and you will have to get a new motherboard Moderator note Moved from this thread - http www techspot com community t up-white-and-stays-white post- nbsp
"I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded"... This is normal behavior because the video signal to the external monitor is not sent until Windows loads. If you can see normal video, the motherboard video chip is good
Hi, I'm new to this site, as to any forums in general, but I was wondering if someone would help me identify what's wrong with my laptop.
It's been used for at least two good years and 've been working better or worse, I'm currently running W8, I've cleaned it many times and it isn't overheating (as far as I can tell by checking the fan.
The problem is that after an hour or so of use, it just goes to the Shutting down... screen. Sometimes it shuts down during a game, sometimes during a video or if I wait long enough it'll shut down on the desktop without any apps running.
It's really frustrating and weird, there are no errors or any indications as to why it shuts down. Happened about 20 times for the past few days. Ideas?
The laptops thermal compound has probably gone bad and hardened... This causes the motherboard to trigger its "overheating" circuit, even though it doesn't seem that hot
Acer Aspire 2000 (Cl32) runs WinXP/Pro/Sp3 and can be set to display in its native resolution of 1280 x 800 from its ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 video card. However, when it reboots, it reverts to 640 x 480, and often blames an absent or corrupt video driver. My remedy is to UNinstall the video driver from Device Manager and reboot, but I'd like to have native resolution without going through this 'readjustment' at every reboot. On the rare occasions that I can access the ATI Control Panel, Schemes in the Display tab, is empty. If I select 'Default Single Display' from the offered options, the SAVE button is greyed out. Any suggestions as to how I can get the native resolution to 'stick' ?
Uninstall driver via the 'Add/Remove Programs'. Run Ccleaner and clean the temp files plus registry. Download a fresh copy of the latest drivers, install.
