What is this network device?

Q: What is this network device?

I woke my desktop PC from sleep this morning, clicked on Network and immediately spotted a Phone in the device list that doesn't belong to anyone here (a Blu brand phone which is unusual enough that I would know about it).

I clicked on the device and was able to view the MAC address, but nothing else useful. A couple minutes later it disappeared from the network list.

Then a few minutes later I went and looked at another PC on the same home network and saw the same phone in its Network list. It also disappeared a couple minutes after I clicked open 'Network'.

Scanned both PCs with various anti-malware programs including Malwarebytes - they look clean.

Any suggestions on what I was seeing, and if it's malicious how to deal with it?

Preferred Solution: What is this network device?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi

Might be a stoopid question ...

My XBox360 is wired by ethernet into my home network (via Devolo homeplug behind TV).

My music server (Win7 netbook) is not wired, but on the wireless network.

Can I get the XBox to "see" the media folders on the netbook (to play music etc.) using this setup or do I have to have both clients on the same wireless network ?

The Xbox automatically disconnects from the wireless network when ethernet is used.

thanks

Hi
I have a LAN with two computers with Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise, a NAS and a network printer multifunction.
This network is managed by a hardware firewall. The two computers do not have any firewall and antivirus and all network devices have the same workgroup.
On the network window of a computer, all network devices are displayed immediately. While, on the other computer, the computer with Windows 7 immediately appears; however, the other network devices were displayed after a long wait.
Since yesterday, on this computer, only this network devices are no more displayed; while the other computer displays all regularly.

Hi, I'm currently located in a college dorm room. The internet system here registers computers mac addresses to determine if the machine has access or not. I've heard talk that you can set up a network device to split the connection across multiple devices, in my case computer and xbox, so both can be used at the same time. What device would I have to get that allows me to set the mac address and allow me to connect both devices?

My DNS does not respond on every device. I have tried using commands like these on my laptop:
netsh int ip reset (This worked but only for a short amount of time)
ipconfig /flush dns

I have also tried disabling my antivirus but that didn't resolve the issue.
I even tried resetting my whole router but that also only worked for about short amount of time.

A:DNS does not respond on every device that is using my network

Can you ping router when this happens?

Try: netsh winsock reset

How are you checking DNS when it fails?
When it happens try in cmd: nslookup
enter a website i.e., www.sevenforums.com
and see if you get an IP address in return
if it fails, enter server 8.8.8.8
enter the same website, see if an IP returns

Can a NAS act as a backup device for on the fly saves? Like a Mirra server.
I need a network storage device that will keep the files that are saved on the file server and also copy them to the NAS. This is just in case the server goes down the network users can redirect there access from the file server to the NAS.

What ideas do you have?

A:Network storage device

Use NAS entirely and create BCV or snapshot volumes.

Or:

Use NAS/iSCSI head and product like Topio or Replistor to async write data to NAS.

Since i got sky broadband it's always been running super slow, the amount of times i have called them is ridiculous.
So i have just been looking around on the sky address to see if i can fix it and in my Attached devices i have, the pc, an ipod touch and an unknown device. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the slow speeds and maybe it's somehow 'stealing' my broadband.
I've read a previous post of the same type but that wasnt for sky.
i ran the ipconfig/all into CMD so if you think you might be able to help ill show the results.

When i boot to winpe CMD ( X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe)
i run the command ipconfig /renew
i get an error that says "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissable for this operation"

When i boot the computer regularly i can get an ipconfig /all through CMD as well as netowrk and it recognizes our domain.
I have boot w/ PXE enabled
I have network pulling through the connection
I am ssuming this is because i do not have the network drivers added to the boot.wim file on the usb device ???

Hello,

I have about 35-40 computers to be networked in my office. All the computers are with an ethernet jack and all the ethernet cables from their respective computers meet in a single room. I need this computers to be networked so that I can effectively share files, printer and internet connection. However I also need mechanisms to restrict access of internet to some computers and the same with files.

I need to know what kind of a network device should be used so that I can use in the way above ? Will a managed switch be sufficient to acompilish the task ? If no, what device is required ?

Thanks for your inputs

A managed switch work as long as that switch will allow you to create vlans on your network, segmenting the different user groups.

Hello all.

Hello. I am using a Siemens 6520 router and a DSL connection. The ISP is BigPond in Australia. It was installed 3 months ago by a technician who at the time added 2 computers to the home network.

I have just bought a new laptop and would like to add it to the network.

I have the MAC address of the new laptop and the WEP key and IP address of the wireless connection, but- even after reading the manual- I cannot find how to add a new device. I am logged into the router management interface as admin, but simply cannot find the sectin which will allow me to enter the new laptop's details to grant access.

Could you please help?

Many thanks

Paul

A:Unknown Network Device

Hello and welcome to Bleepingcomputer.

You did not specify if this computer is a desktop or laptop computer.

If you could also post the make and model number of this computer that would also be helpful.

How are you connecting to the Internet? Are you using an Ethernet cable, or wireless?

If you have a laptop, there is a chance someone connected to the Internet by connecting through a wireless router and those settings were saved to the home group.

Once you post back the information I requested, it will be a little easier to answer your questions.

Thanks in advance.

Bruce.

Hello, I have a difficult situation. My hacker once lived in my home and I think they had something wired to my cables for internet access. They can connect to my network without a password and can even take over my computer if it wasn't for the fact that I have McAfee and lists it as an intruder. The only way I can see the hackers device if I have my computer wired in. But, I think they are using a phony IP and MAC addresses because I've gone onto my wireless router and set access for this MAC address under deny but she continues to have access. Is there something I can do on my computer or wireless router to turn off something to block her. Or, is there a way for me to locate her true MAC address? Please help.

Welcome to Seven Forums.
Go here: MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Motherboard, Graphics and more 32 and get the Realtek LAN driver and install it. you will have to find out which WLAN card you system has by looking in Device manger. Connect to the net with Ethernet. Then run Windows Update to see if it will find the WLAN driver.

Does your wireless access point support any kind of filtering to block connections by MAC address? This should work for stopping someone who is unknowingly connecting to your network.

Are you using any kind of encryption protection for your wireless access point(s)?

I am pretty new to networking, so this is probably a stupid question, but I keep getting this error when I try to access a shared folder from another system.

My network is crazy. Some systems can see some other systems SOMEtimes, but other times they can't, and the systems that CAN see each other don't necessarily see the same other systems. This is driving me mad. I'm so sad!

Hi everyone,

I have a problem. One of the computers here at work can't log into the network. When I click O:\ Drive it gives me an error saying "Local device in use". This has happend before in the past. The problem was one of the tech guys hooked up a laptop and put a IP address that someone already using, so they put a different IP Address for the laptop. But the computer still could not get into the network drive. Eventually the problem was resolved but I was not here to see it done.

I already checked the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties and everything looks ok.

Does anyone has a resolution for this?

I recently had to do a fresh install of my windows xp on a dimension 8250. The last time i did this i had to go download Ethernet drivers and it worked right away . This time I tried to download and install the chip-set and drivers but they are not working. When i go to the device manager the is not even a network category. Last time I at least had yellow ? marks. I have service pack 1 installed but i can't manage to get service pack 2 installed with dial up. I'm considering doing another reformat with hopes that it will fix it. Any ideas would be quite helpful.

A:Network device configuration disappears

Do you have that option ticked in a seperate Power Plan, so that it's not enabled on boot? I.E. have it marked in the Power Saving plan but not the normal Balanced plan, or the plan for running off battery power if you're in a laptop (which wouldn't be applicable in a desktop but sometimes shows up for the hell of it for some reason).

Hello,

After using system restore my internet connection has a red x. I have seen this before so I went into device manager so see what's up. There is no network adapter listed. I did a scan for hardware changed and nothing. I have an Atheros network driver folder on my desktop so I ran the setup.exe and it appeared to install the driver. After a reboot nothing happens.

The windows 7 troubleshooter tells me, "Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver."

The LAN connection is on my Asus p5ql-pro motherboard and I have downloaded the most recent driver from the website.

please help.$

Was the driver you installed a win 7 driver? If not you need to install it in compatibility mode. To do that right click the installer>properties>compatibility>choose OS.

Dell XPS M140 laptop with Windows XP and Intel (R) Pro/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection:

My laptop connects at home to my wireless network and has worked in other places where view available wireless networks has popped up with the list. Yesterday, I arrived at my parent's house, wireless network list popped up, choose the one from this house, entered the password. It said password was wrong, then the network list would not come up anymore. It says "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection". The small icon in the toolbar is gone. Under Network Connections, my Intel device says "not connected". How do I connect this? It is enabled, it says this device is working properly, but I went through the troubleshooter anyway to no avail.

A:Wireless network device says not connected

Remove the stored wireless profile for that network and try again. If it still fails, I'm going to guess that they either have MAC filtering enabled or you don't actually have the correct password.

What kind of encryption are they running?

So I had enabled the Administrator account for a bit, then went back in and Disabled it after I created a second account that had administrator privileges. Now under Network I still see 2 Media servers, listed under media Devices, for this computer.

1. Computer Name: Administrator
2 Computer Name: My E-mail account, the active account I am using

Any idea how to remove the listed Administrator Account since it is not needed, and no longer active?

A:How to Remove Media Device From Network Map

If this was on that computer, go to Device Manager and click on "Show Hidden Devices" in the View pull down. If it does not show in there, would need more information as to what these media devices are, and if they were on the network, or on that computer.

For some reason UPnP & DLNA on the computers remember them. Also the router can be the culprit and still has the IP assigned to the device, so windows still remembers it.

Try a ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns and netsh winsock reset catalog, to see if that clears the ghost devices from the system.

I recently upgraded to the BT Home hub, which after reading several forum posts about it was a bad decision.

I have now installed this and connected my PC (via USB) and XBOX360 (via ethernet) to the Home hub, l and although I have to wait for my line to be optimized, everything seems to be working well.

However, when I check on y network status, using the BT Broadband Desktop help utility, it shows I have an UNKNOWN DEVICE connected to the router along side my PC and XBOX360.

I have tried to obtain assistance from BT themselves but they simply told me to ignore the unknown device, as it will not cause any harm!!!!

Does anyone know how I might find out what this is or remove it from my network?

Thanks.

I've installed windows 7 as upgrade to vista home premium in my Toshiba Satellite P205D-7802 laptop. Most everything seems to be running fine. My big problem is my network adapters (for wired and wireless - they are different) don't show up at all in the device manager?

I understand the whole installing a driver with compatibility mode but that seem quite impossible if the system does not even find the devices?

System was bought new 1 year ago with visa home premium and everything was working fine before the install. I have the drivers to install if I need the old vista drivers but it does not good.

I can install the drivers and when it gets done it says they are no good until the device is attached?

Any and all help is appreciated.

I have a linksys wrk54g wireless router connected to my cable modem. Off the router runs my desktop, roomates wireless laptop, my wired xbox360 and my roomates wireless ps3.

My problem is that when i play online games on my desktop, i momentarily get disconnected from the internet....for a couple seconds and drop the game I'm in whenever either the xbox or ps3 are turned on. I also get disconnected from other online programs such as aim/xfire but thats not as bad cuz i just log back in right away. It is pretty annoying and i believe it is a problem with my router somehow?

I am semi competent at computers and setup the network myself. Please if any1 has ideas or has heard of this problem before id appreciate it.

A:Network disconnect when I connect w/ a new device. Plz Help

sounds like you have a duplicate IP address on one the the boxes

get a connection and make sure you can browse the Internet using google
and search for anything you like (we'll use this as a test)

Connect a device and make the browser search again (even on the same words).
If you get disconnected, then the last device connected has the conflict.

Go to that device and REMOVE any static IP address and make sure you have
Automatic DHCP for the IP and DNS addresses on that device.

I am writing on behalf of my brother in law, who is having a problem getting Internet access seemingly out of nowhere.

Have troubleshooted the hell out of it, and even gotten the ISP involved and still nothing.

IP settings are correct, Modem is working properly, and ping tests seem to indicate the NIC is ok but yet no Internet access. Other PC in the house on same drop line has no issues.

Will try hooking it up via USB or seeing if my laptop will connect therefore ruling out external factors, but until then i was curious if anyone had some ideas or thoughts.

I know I am leaving out a lot, but any help is welcomed.

A:loses connection to wireless network other device i have do ...

Hello @fairgame, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! The forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I understand that you are having an issue with the WiFi, and wanted to assist you! First, try reviewing the following steps, offered by community member @Great-Deku-Tree: First, we have a step by step guide to walk you through the troubleshooting process here: HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet A second option, is to try these steps:Powercycle the network:1. Shut down your notebook.2. Unplug the power to your router.3. Unplug the power to your modem.4. Wait at least 45 seconds.5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)2. Expand the Network adapters.3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.4. Click the Power Management tab.5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.6. Click OK.7. Test.Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.Reinstall the network adapter drivers:1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.3. Expand Network adapters.4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.6. Restart your PC and test.Test an ethernet connection:Self explanatory. Test if the issue persists on a wired connection to rule out the wireless adapter hardware so troubleshooting can be directed towards the right areas.Test another connection:Many people rule out their home network as an issue if another device is working on the same network. Networking is not that simple. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to rule out settings in that device until the notebook has been tested on another network. If those three steps do not resolve the issue, try this document published by Microsoft for networking issues: Wired and wireless network problems. You can change the operating system with the dropdown in the upper-right corner of the document. Please let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution", this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for.  Also, clicking the Thumbs up below is a great way to say thanks! Have a great day!

When going through device manager, there is no Network Adapters section. All network cards show up as unknown devices even though I've installed the drivers for them. In Control Panel -> Network Connections, there is no Local Area Connection. I've tried a new network card and that didn't fix anything either.

ipconfig / all gives me:

Windows IP COnfiguration. That's all. Nothing else shows up.

I'm so lost.

Hello,

Just now I got a notice of a new unknown device connecting to my network. I have not seen the device name before, and have no idea what is going on. When I try to look up this device, it says Windows can't access name. When I try to find more details, it says "The network path was not found." It's currently 6am in the US so I doubt someone has gained access to my network unless they're morning intruders.

I don't really understand what is going on. I've never seen this notice before.

Edit: Upon viewing my network again, this device no longer shows.

A:New/unknown device connected to network - cannot access

You should be able to see it on the router and see if it's connected via wireless or cable note your normal Mac address now so you can identify it.

Hello so i use Airplay with iTunes and i was wondering if i can limit access to my AirPlay device so that others under the same wi-fi network that use iTunes can't see or access/stream to my device.

The airplay enabled device i use with iTunes is the Marantz M-CR603 audio system.

Thanks.

A:Is it possible to limit device access when using AirPlay under the same network?

Hi Star_Light,

From what I can find about upgrading the Marantz M-CR603 to support AirPlay, I do not see anything about an ability to restrict who on the network can communicate with the Marantz M-CR603. The concept of AirPlay is that you can take any device and direct audio and/or video to the AirPlay enabled device. I doubt the Marantz M-CR603 supports restricting what devices can use the AirPlay capability it offers.

It sounds like the power problem tweaked your board a bit.

Have you tried clearing the cmos on the board?

Make sure you write down all the important bios settings before you clear the cmos and put them back to how it was before. If you built your own machine this should be fairly easy for you.

Maybe take your laptop to a public library, Starbucks coffee shop, and try to connect there. If you can connect to the Internet try downloading, installing, and running a free driver program such as "Driver Booster" or something similar. See if you can update all those likely outdated drivers with yellow exclamation marks. See if it helps?

Uninstalling and reinstalling and disabling and enabling doesn't work as well. It worked in the past, but sunday after a very fast windows 10 update it doesn't work at all. Thanks in advance!

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen A friend Network Installs as Unknown Device Adapter from work brought his computer to my attention because in the past I ve been able to help a few other coworkers However this gentleman is running WIndows XP Media Center edition His Network Adapter Installs as Unknown Device label states that there is an internal card of WM abg This computer is a Gateway I Network Adapter Installs as Unknown Device know I know mx Here s what I ve been able to find so far The network card worked at some point Whether he messed with the settings and screwed something up or whatever that has changed I checked the device manager and found that both the ethernet port and the wireless were installed to unknown devices I surfed over to driver support on gateway for his model of computer I tried to update the drivers with no success I then uninstalled the original drivers restarted the computer and found that windows would try to install the driver on its own unsuccessfully every time I knew at that point windows had to be finding its own drivers somewhere on the computer and if they weren t working I needed to stop this behavior I cleared the temp files cleared the obvious cabs from previous misintallations and then manually deleted the drivers related to the network card and restarted At that point I was able to install the gateway drivers however the same behavior occurs where the network card continues to fall into unknown drivers Now I figured this morning maybe some of the unknown drivers that aren t network-related need to be installed properly in order for the network card to be functional I m losing ideas and I d hate to waste a weekend going through needless steps I ve read up on this issue and it appears that this card does have some issues installing For the records as well I Network Adapter Installs as Unknown Device have installed using the intel drivers from the intel website and that has not worked either Any ideas I ve thought about updating his service pack to three reinstalling windows etc but there s no reason this network card should not be working if it was part of the original installation on the laptop Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated I ve attached a screenshot of what I see in the device manager as well nbsp

Hey, guys. This is my first time posting on this website. I really need help. I have a Dell XPS m1210. My friend just reinstalled my Laptop because a virus messed it up and now I cant go online. I tried installing all the drivers from the Dell's website but I still cant view the network adapter under device manager. I saw many posts about this problem on this website but I still can't fix the problem. When i clicked on the device manager, there is no network adapter section. It seems to disappear. I don't know what to do especially since I'm a computer illiterate. Please help you guys and thanks in advance

A:Solved: No Network Adapter under Device Manager

This sounds unlikely but I can only suggest that the adapter must be missing in BIOS. Restart and tap Delete or Function 2 key to go into BIOS or Setup menus, seek out the network adapter and enable it. Save the changes and you should see the adapter in Device Manager and the driver at Dell's site. If you key in the Service Tag reference, you'll get the drivers for the precise equipment they installed.

One of our Surface Pros with Win 10 locked up at the "Surface" boot screen and -- after a forced restart -- had lost all networking functionality. Not sure how to restore connectivity, now...
