AMD HD 7950 vs Nvidia GTX 760

Q: AMD HD 7950 vs Nvidia GTX 760

So I got these two cards to choose. I will play in a single-monitor and looking forward to play Battlefield 4.

I have actually already bought my CPU, which is a i5-4670K, Motherboard, Gigabyte GA-Z87 HD3 and SSD, Samsung EVO 120GB.
Monday, it will arrive my other components, but I am with no worries and If I order today the GPU, tomorrow it will be here, so that's why I am asking you: which one will perform better?

Alot of you will say for me to wait till prices are released from new AMD cards, but I don't want to wait like 2 weeks xD

As far as I know, I can get the Sapphire HD 7950 3GB (boost edition) for 226,99Eur. And the Asus GTX 760 DCII OC 2GB for 231,99Eur.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The 7950 will be better IMO for BF4 since it has 3GB of GDDR5 and AMD is the official partner of DICE and EA.

I have been thinking its about time for a upgrade, but I cant choose between the 2 cards, they costs the same but the 760 is better than the 7950, many people recommend me getting a AMD.

I just had a chat with another Member the 7950 and 7970 will mop the floor with the 760 Overclock it or even flash the 7950 to 7970 ghz bios and you will be full on tearing it up

Upon my Windows 7 (64bit) installation, windows installed a driver for this device? Is that correct? It's working fine. I would like to have the software that monitors the temp of the card, I really don't need to install a different driver for it, unless that is recomended, or unless the differnet driver and softwarwe to monitor the temp is all packaged together. One of you guys know the link for me. Thanks. Also is there other software you would recomend for monitoring cpu temp and/or videocard/mb temps.

I had gotten a graphics card from a friend and I installed it just fine. The only thing that I am having a problem with is every time my computer restarts it gives me this message.

Problem Report:

The NVIDIA System Sentinel is reporting that the NVIDI-powered graphics card is not receiving sufficient power.:

To protect your hardware from potential damage or causing a potential system lockup, the graphics processor has lowered its performance to a level that allows continued safe operations.

I don't know why it is saying this. My friend was SLIing two of them with a 520 power supply and mine is 720. I play games just fine. There is no lag(unless the server is bad) and everything runs smoothly. Does anyone know why this message is coming up? If so, then could someone inform me how to fix it? I would be greatly appreciated.

i recently installed a 64 bit version of xp onto my laptop and downloaded the drivers to make everything compatible but when i tried to install the video card driver it said that it cannot find the video card, i then checked my device manager to find it was not there but in my bios it was there so a bit stuck about what to do, any suggestions?

A:xp 64 bit not working with nvidia geforce go 7950 gtx

Did you get the 64bit video drivers?

nVidia GeForce 7950 WinXP 64bit driver, see Products Supported tab. Download and SAVE (do not run).

IMPORTANT - Follow nVidia's advice and use Driver Cleaner Pro to fully uninstall all old drivers. This is especially critical in your case because of going from 32bit to 64bit.

You remove your old nVidia drivers via Add/Remove Programs, DO NOT REBOOT, then run Driver Cleaner Pro and select to remove nVidia drivers. NOW reboot, and run saved 64bit driver installer.

I already have the latest nVidia diver with "Quad SLI" activated.

A:Windows 7 crashing with nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX card

Try the link below then click on the one that says "Graphics drivers", let it install the software that checks for which card you are running then it will show you the best driver for your 7950GTX.

This should get you up an running with the right resolution with aero, you may need to go into the Nvidia control panel to adjust the resolution but you can do it in Windows by just right clicking on the desktop and choose adjust resolution.

You should also rerun the Windows Experience Index after the driver install and reboot which should get aero going for you again.

I have no clue why my Nvidia 7950gx2 doesn't work properly, I mean I have a lot of lags in games (such as Battlefield 2). Simple 7950 should have no problems with it and I have gx2. Sometimes in display settings I can choose 2 resolutions, bigger than 1920x1200, (1920x1440 and 2048x1536) and when I choose them my screen turns off. As I said I have only sometimes chance to choose them.
I've installed the latest Nvidia drivers (I've tried beta version too) and nothing helps.

Q: Hd 7950

Hi all,

I've had this problem on and off for a month or two but i've now had it for 3 days in a row.

I get small "red" pixels where they shouldn't be (i haven't got any pics atm as i'm at work) Now i'm pretty sure it's not a driver issue, i've uninstalled the driver, then windows installs a "microsoft vga adapter" but i still get the same problem.

A:Hd 7950

Do you get these red pixels as soon as you turn the machine on, i.e. at the BIOS / boot screens before Windows starts?

It could a problem caused by the GPU overheating if they start appearing when Windows is up and running, if that is the case install HWMonitor (free software) and see what temps the GPU is at.

If you get the red pixels as soon as you turn the PC on then the most likely problem is physical damage to the graphics card / GPU. The only fix for that is a new graphics card.

Hey guys I have decided that I'm going to buy a second 7950 and I am wondering what I have to do to install it correctly when I already have one installed

A:Putting in a second 7950

Check your power supply to make sure it can handle the additional 7950. For a system using two Radeon HD 7950 graphics cards in 2-way CrossFireX mode, AMD specifies a minimum of an 700 Watt or greater power supply. The power supply should also have a combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 46 Amps or greater and have at least four 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

1)I am planning to buy 7950.a tech frnd told me that if I buy it will give me tearing performace cause I have 1366*768 RES. with 60 fps or the gpu will send more fps than needed that will destroy gaming it true?he advice me to get 7850 2gb.
2)what if I set it 75hz?will still do prob?
3)Does powerful gpu more future proof?for example if 7850 protects 3 years of playing game smoothly than 7950 will protect 5 yrs,7990 will protects 7-8 years.M I right?
N:B: Sorry 4 my BAD ENGLISH.

A:Will the HD 7950 have tearing with this rig?

If your minimum framerates are above 60fps you can turn on V-sync and that will resolve tearing issues. At your resolution you'd easily get above 60fps minimum on pretty much all games. In fact I'd recommend you upgrading your monitor for a better gaming experience. Even if you do get tearing it depends on how much you notice it, if any. I would definitely not call it a "game destroying experience".

No card will future proof you for 7-8 years. Just buy the best value for money card now and upgrade when you need more power. The 7950 is very good value now so I would recommend getting that.

A:which is better - GeForce GT 620 or 7950?

The GT620 should be perfect, the older 7950GT is a terrible choice since it's pretty much obsolete by modern standards. Moreover the 7 series GPUs was discontinued and moved to legacy status so there won't be any newer driver releases. The integrated HD4000 graphics is fine for general use but it's not gonna provide enough horsepower to drive modern games, you'll mostly likely experience lags and low fps.

A:What do you think about X2-7950's vs getting X2-7970's

According to Sapphire:

Sapphire Technology Web Site#

An 850W PSU is the recommend minimum for two overclocked 7970s. Unfortunately, they don't list a PSU for dual 7950s.

A 7950 uses two 6 pin PCI-E power connectors rather than the one 6 and one 8 pin for the 7970. That means that the 7950 draws less than 225W; the 7970, 300W.

850W should be adequate.

A 7950 has 7/8 of the stream processors of the 7950, but it's a better deal.

I haven't tried Crossfire since an unpleasant experience with two 4870s a few years ago. I hope that AMD has gotten their driver act together since then.

That card in not technically a 1GB card. It is rather 2 TWO Geforce 7900s running is SLI but they are build into one card. Each card has 512mb of RAM so it should only say that the card has 512 because thats what each single card has.

I am been running an overclocked 7950gx2 for quite sometime now.

Currently i am running the 3d clock frequency at 610 Mhz and the memory at 1650 Mhz.

But today it just occurred to me that perhaps I have violated some key ratio so perhaps I can squeeze even more out of the card.

As you can increase 3d clock and the memory frequency independently, is there a ratio I should keep in mind.

I mean if I can increase the 3clock by 10%, should I always try to increase the memory of the same amount, or doesn't that matter?

Would love to hear from you more experienced overclockers

Edit: By the way, the factory settings for my card was 520 MHz for the 3d core and 1300 MHz for the memory

Hello guys I will buy i5 4670k and 2 of these followings:

Asrock Z87 Extreme 4 Extreme4/
Asrock Z87 Killer
MSI Z87-G45

Sapphire HD7950 GDDR5 3GB 384Bit
Asus GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5

Can you help me on which combination of those mobo+graphics card gives me better performance? I be happy if u help on

A:GTX 760/ HD 7950 + mobo advice

Either combination would offer pretty much the same performance.
Of the motherboards, I'd go with an AsRock over the MSI. My personal experience with MSI boards is rather mixed to say the least. Of the two AsRock boards, they are similarly appointed, and should be similarly priced.
If you're looking at the overclocking ability, that is more down to the silicon lottery that is CPU fabrication rather than board ability. Both AsRock boards should feature the same OC headroom.

As for the graphics cards, assuming price isn't the main consideration and cryptocurrency minng hasn't sent AMD cards higher than they should be, both the GTX 760 and HD 7950 are well matched and capable cards. How they fare will depend upon which games you plan playing.

If it comes down to a reference HD 7950 and a vendor overclocked GTX 760, I'd go with the latter, and the MSI Gaming version over the Asus DC2. The MSI card will be quieter and likely have more overclock headroom.

Yeah, for the last while I've been using a piece-of-shit Radeon HD 4350. I was on work experience today at my local IT shop, and there was a graphic card sitting there for months that I never asked about. Then me and my boss were discussing my rig and he asked if I liked gaming - of course I said yes, and he talked to me about the previously mentioned graphic card - the Gigabyte Geforce 7950 GX2, a dual GPU monster of a thing! He said I could have it and he'd take the money out of my wages.

My question is - is this card good enough for modern games?

A:Geforce 7950 GX2 - Is it good?

I don't think that I would do it. I play some modern games with my 9800GTX+....but I've thought about upgrading numerous times. Unless you get it for a steal, I don't think I would go for it.

I can not decide between these two cards. The Evga is just barely faster than the PNY and I know Evga's a really good company for video cards, but so is PNY, and right now I have a PNY 7800GT. I just don't know which one to buy. I've read some reviews of people saying that the Evga is loud and uses a lot of power. As of right now I'm leaning toward the PNY.

A:GeForce 7950, PNY or Evga?

Well, I'd get EVGA. They offer a great warranty, and should make great, quality cards.

And an EVGA card will use the same power as a PNY card. I don't know what is that people talking about :unch:

Plug the non working screen into the card that has the working screen.

If you have 2 dvi cables and your cards are like my brothers, you have to use the hdmi to dvi adapter that came with the card.

When you run crossfire, all the monitors plug into the primary card, top one I believe, and the second card is used only for extra horsepower.

Is your new PSU included in the budget of $500?

Can anyone explain the difference between the same GPU but different manufacturer (Asus card costing more than the MSI one)?Click to expand...

Usually the difference between cards are small. Some will have better cooling or one may be OC'd while the other isn't. Or some may have dual bios capabilities. I remember my old HD 6950's from sapphire had the ability to be unlocked to 6970's. All in all, it really just depends on what you want. The cards are all going to perform generally the same. If it was me, id go for the cheaper one.

Here is a article about the diffirent HD 7950's available. Maybe it will add a little more clarity to what I was explaining.,3207-14.html

If I remember correctly, the GTX 670 out performed the 7950 in most cases. But, then again. The 7950 can OC quite a deal to make it perform much like a 7970. See what others have to say, I hope I was able to help a bit.

A:Replace 512MB GeForce 7950 GT

As long as the power supply is up to it as the 550 Ti uses more power than the 7950, it's as easy as,

1. Uninstall the current driver and power down.

2. Remove the old card and put in the new.

3. Boot up and install the driver for the new card (latest from Nvidia and not what is on the disk).

If the power supply isn't up to it ( a good quality 500W or higher), then you will also have to get a new power supply.

When I'm in the display properties ----> Settings ---> Advanced ---> Adapter

Under the Adapter tab it reads GeForce 7950GX2 but "memory size" only reads 512MB, when it is a 1GB GPU. Is this because it is only reading the side of the card that is actually plugged in to the PCI-Exp slot? Or am I only running at 512MB when it should be 1GB? This seems like a stupid question to me, but I couldn't figure it out otherwise.

Some possible info surfacing at OBR (He of the supposed-fake-but-actually-on-the-money-Bulldozer-leaks).
The graphs look off from what I've seen on the intertubes, but the 15% improvement over GTX 580 in 3DMark11 seems on the money, which should translate to ~22-25% better performance than the HD 6970 in gaming. This would tend to add weight to the decision to allow board partners to have custom HD 7950 designs at launch, since it would seem that the 7950 isn't going to be the performance equal of GTX 580/ overclocked 570. Custom SKU's would allow overclocked performance to better match the Nvidia cards -much the same strategy as Nvidia employed with the GTX 560Ti.

PCGH are reporting that the 7970 will hit retail at a ?539-549 price point.

Hi guys,

I will say before i start i have never used dual graphics cards in my system before.

I recently bought a second XFX 7950 graphics card for my system as it was on sale

I have installed the second card and plugged it in, and its recognized by my system that it is there.

In CCC, and GPU-Z it is saying that crossfire is enabled, but in speccy it is saying it isn't. and when I played Battlefield 3 for not even 5 minutes on ultra using Eyefinity it made my primary GPU to go up to 87 degrees C.

So i would say that it isn't enabled.

Any help would be appreciated

A:7950 Crossfire Enabled but not (if that makes sense)

Quote: Originally Posted by Apprentrice5

I'd trust CCC/GPU-Z over speccy.
To verify, Open GPU-Z and select the second card from the dropdown menu.

Under sensors, look for GPU Load. In the dropdown menu select "Show Highest Reading"

Run the game and either quit or alt-Tab and see what the GPU Load is for the 2nd card. If crossfire is not enabled then there will little to no usage shown. If it is enabled then it will show load usage.

To compare, you can run two instances of GPU-Z - one for each card. If the Load is the same or close to for both cards, then it's definitely working.

Or you can also use Afterburner to monitor both cards simultaneously. Once out of the game you can compare the gpu load for each card. Again, if there is little to zero load on the 2nd card - it's not enabled. If it's the same as the primary - it's enabled.

and when I played Battlefield 3 for not even 5 minutes on ultra using Eyefinity it made my primary GPU to go up to 87 degrees C.

Simply adding the second card is enough to make the primary card run hotter as the bottom card disturbs the airflow.

Jumps of 10-20c is not uncommon for dual cards.
Unfortunately one downside to multi cards is the extra heat and noise. You can either manually crank your fans up in CCC or use Afterburner to create a custom fan profile to help keep temps down.

I'd wager it is enabled.

A:GeForce 7950 GX2 Problems Loading Drivers

no offence mate but that card was a dog , everybody had issues with it and the tech support coming out of NVidia for it was shocking , all the new driver releases never contained any fixes for that it , is was just like NV gave up on it , so thats why XFX aint really trying.

you could try a full uninstall of your drivers just to see if it helps

download and install the free version of driver cleaner

Driver Cleaner Professional download from

uninstall your drivers through control panel when prompted to reboot boot into safemode

run driver cleaner and select "multiple cleaning options"

browse the list and select Nvidia GPU and NVidia control panel (obviously ignore the nvidia chipset entry)

select the "clean" option then wait till its done

reboot then install your drivers , this is ust a suggestion to see if it helps , it may be an issue from old drivers , this will sort that out

if it works try and remember to do this everytime you install new drivers , it helps prevent problems from conflicting reg entries (which are rare but can happen especially when updating to mch newer drivers)

Since yesterday, my graphics card has been starting to go to black screens and emit loud fan noises. I suspect it may be due to a recent update regarding something about WDDM 1.3 since that too was installed yesterday.

What do you think is causing all of this?

I would go into the updates and remove that particular WDDM 1.3 update and see if that fixes it.

I've got the latest Catalyst Drivers (13.4) from the AMD website, along with a Radeon HD 7950 from Sapphire.

As of right now, what happens is that if I launch into a game or anything graphically intensive, it will work initially. However, shortly thereafter, the screen starts to glitch/bug out, eventually crashing to either a screen with blue/brown vertical stripes, or a blank screen (that's been either brown or blue or white).

FurMark seems to bring it down fastest, and it seems to conk out @ ~52-54 degrees Celsius.

I'm not a gamer, but rather an enthusiastic net surfer and would like my present graphics card to be as fast as easily possible. To do this, it has been suggested that I update my card's driver with downloading/installing Nvidia's latest driver (285.62 WHQL, Win7 64-bit...4G RAM, Firefox 9). Would this be the the right thing to do?

Mermiatwd, welcome to the forum. I suggest that you try Revo Uninstaller free version to see if it solves you problem.  I use the Advanced option.  It removes the program from the HDD and the remnants from the BIOS.  I have used it for years with great success with removing those difficult to remove programs. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Okay, in my Windows Update, this 'optional' update is forever on there, waiting for me to install it. Well, when I do try to install it, it just ends up failing with error code 80070103 (Unknown error). Is this update necessary for regular use or do I need it, despite it being labeled optional. Oh, and why does it fail continually?

Hi Kazuto
I usually go with the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' theory when downloading optional updates. If all is working well, I usually find that optional updates are more trouble than help..

Hello Overson, welcome to the forum

Windows update does not necessarily install the newest drivers . If you are having no problems with the driver 266.58 then I would stay with that one

So I just bought this laptop, and I installed windows 7, and it should have Intel HD Graphics 5500 + nVidia Geforce 920M 1GB. However, I cant find nVidia Geforce, and when I try to install driver, it says that driver cant find the hardware. Also, when I open device manager, I do not have nVidia under Display adapters section, only Intel HD Graphics 5500. Anyone knows whats up here? I have seen many solutions that involve changing .inf files but I cant even see the nVidia so that does not work for me.

I've searched the Net from top to bottom to find some UniVBE drivers that support the nVidia Vanta chipset and I've turned out blank. Does such a thing exist? Like, I can't play Contructor, that's why I'm asking

Alright, here's the deal.
? Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, with SP2 RC.
? nVidia Gforce 9600 GT

Never had problems updating the drivers to their latest versions (downloaded from until I de-installed Spybot (that crappy anti-spyware thing).

After that, everytime I try to install (after a deinstallation) or update the current drivers nothing happens. Install runs fine, copies files, reboots and voila... same drivers as before.

The only drivers that actually I was able to install were the 178.13 via the internal Windows Update. That's it. If I don't install them, the VGA card is shown as "vgasave" in the Device Manager.

I'm quite fed up with this and planning to reinstall Vista, but backuping everything up is going to be a real hassle, that's why I'm trying to find out a possible solution to this beforehand.

Any suggestions?.
Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I just got my 2nd monitor which is 27" instead of my old 24".
When I hooked my new monitor up via HDMI it had the same resolution as my other 24", with black borders around the screen.
Any way to make the 27" inch have higher resolution? I just looked it up, and I know that HDMI can have up to 2560x1600, and the same with my GPU which also can have up to 2560x1600.
So why cant I make my new monitor (27") have higher resolution than my older monitor (24") while using both screens? D:

Other info;
Older monitor 24" Asus w/ VGA, DVI, and HDMI.
New monitor 27" Samsung w/ VGA, HDMI.

Any help here?

A:AMD 7950 GPU - Dual monitor - 27" and 24" same resolution?

Can you provide us with the exact model number for the new monitor? Some monitors and TVs have a feature that must be turned off when using HDMI. The resolution might actually be the same but this feature (cant recall the name) is making it appear incorrectly. To change the actual resolution, right-click the desktop and select "Screen resolution."

I've read Quadro's are stable and highly recommended for CAD, etc workstations (not for gaming) and gaming cards are obviously better for gaming. I am looking to setup two separate dual output video cards in a new machine. It will be used primarily for streaming real time financial info/web surfing (no CAD nor any 3D modeling) with a secondary use of gaming (not important for me to run top games at top resolutions-average is fine). Should I look at getting Quadros or game cards. I am leaning toward the game cards like Nvidia 8600GT, etc as they are lower price and seems like if they can run games fast/no problem-why wouldn't they easily be able to handle business applications? Quadros seem to cost more and can mainly only be used for business apps?

A:Nvidia Quadro vs Nvidia gaming cards

Quadros are for Digital Content Creation and CAD purposes mainly. For you, a pair of 8600GTs would be fine.

I have a Geforce 8200 installed in my computer but everytime i try to update my drivers to the newest 8200 drivers. it installed Geforce 9200 drivers...
i call nvidia and they said that 9200 is the same as 8200 and the drivers will work flawless with my 8200...
well they are totally wrong. with the 9200 installed, my HDMI screen flickers all the time then if i had the 8200 drivers in....
but here is the catch...since i updated i can't remember that driver i had installed that worked...
whenever i got to the nvidia site to get a 8200 driver
they send me to the 9200 driver page.
just want to know where i can get reliable 8200 drivers and if anyone knows a good 8200 driver that was the best out of the batch of them
i know i have have high hopes
but got to ask somewhere.

A:Nvidia 8200 Drivers /Nvidia 9200

If you go to the File Hippo site you will find lots of past version Nvidia drivers but you might be up against it if you can't remember the driver version you want. Trial and error maybe the only way to go.
If you do decide to try different versions I'd be using driver sweeper between installing.

Okay I hooked my old Nvidia MX440SE Nvidia = 6600GT??? computer again since it s a decent machine and I don t want it to waste away in the closet anymore It s a P with mb ram Windows XP CDRW GB HD GB HD SB Live sound card D-Link ethernet card Floppy drive and a W PSU Nvidia MX440SE = Nvidia 6600GT??? It was running a crappy old Nvidia MX AGP Well I wanted to upgrade the video card cheap be able to play RtCW with higher fps and actually be able to run Doom nothing Nvidia MX440SE = Nvidia 6600GT??? special Wasn t looking to run anything new so I got a GT which I looked around and saw was decent for what I wanted So first time I booted it up I had vertical black white bars lines on the screen I thought great faulty card Then I realized it required a w power supply and I only had a w So I disconnected the CDRW to see Nvidia MX440SE = Nvidia 6600GT??? if power was the issue and sure enough the bars dissapeared Just to make sure it got all it needed that I could give I also disconnected the gb hd and the floppy drive pretty much put the machine on just what it needed to run I run a fx se that requires a w on another w system and it s fine so I figure the shortage is okay with all the extras gone Anyway so now with it installed and working fine I loaded up RtCW to test it out see how much it improved Well the fps is the same with both cards apparently as low as in some locations of the game and as high as in others Averaging around - throughout I noticed no change at all in game play between the two either I looked at benchmarks for these cards before I bought the GT and well there should be a difference So could the w shortage cause this or is my old machine killing the card Could the card be bad even though it doesn t seem to be causing problems I mean if this is how it s going to stay I m just going to return it as my old card did just as good and didn t suck all my power nbsp

I am thinking of getting a new graphics card for x-mas. I currently have a Geforce 8600 GT and i was looking at this GT 220.

Which is better? i think the 220 is but i just wanted some expert confirmation.

GT 220: (scroll down past the 210)

8600 GT: (The right Column)

A:NVIDIA GT 220 VS Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT

Why bother? If you want to upgrade from an 8600GT - you need to buy a card that has a noticable difference.

For example... the 9500/9400GTs are also pretty much re-badged 8600s. Think of the 220 as a smaller and cheaper to make version of the 8600GT with blu-ray decoding abilities. Its more like a bit better version of the 8600GTs.... that costs $65~95.

An ATI 4670 is about $60~95. Heres a nice one at $80:

But for real big speed bumps - look at ATI 4800s/5700s or at least a GTX 260... or even the GT250 (which is a 9800GT which is a 8800GT - UGH! )
These cards are about $ 120~200.

Your power supply will also be important too. Do you know your brand and model number?

Also your computers own performance.

Can someone explain to me what the difference between the Nvidia 7600gt CO and the Nvidia 7600gt KO is? Which is better? Thanks.

A:What is the difference between the Nvidia 7600gt and the Nvidia 7600gt KO?

Nvidia doesn't make cards, they make chips. Shoot a link to the cards you are thinking about and I will decipher them.

KO most likely means factory overclocked but I ain't into googling right now.
