Hi. I just bought HP 250 G4 notebook with 500 GB HDD that i wanted to replace with 120 GB SSD but it ?ike i will need to takie off the whole down part of my notebook. Will i loose my warranty then?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

Hello, I had a failing hard drive that was replaced in warranty just a couple of days ago. However the hard drive that was installed on my computer is not a new one - CrystalDiskInfo reports it has been turned on 450 times. Is that a normal policy to send refurbished hardware as replacements?  Also, I've noticed the hard drive does an unfamiliar clicking sound when beign used. (and since it's the same hard drive as I've had before, I assume the usual working sound should be the time, which it isn't)Check disk and CrystalDiskInfo don't show any errors though, so I'm not sure if it's a bad sign or not? I will definitely take it to the authorized repair shop that did the HDD replacement but I still thought I'd ask here. Thanks in advance.

ISSUE WAS THAT- MY LAPTOP DIDN'T On/Start suddenly. So i took it to Hp authoresed service center here in Shillong. They told that they will have to keep the laptop, Check it and inform me within 2 or 3 days. But they didn't so i contacted them after 7 days and then they told me that the Laptop's Motherboard needs to be replaced and that they already ordered one from the company. But 15 days gone still no Contact from their side. I'm worried whether they r just fooling me round and round or Do Hp take This long time for The replacement. R they going to charge me even though its still under warranty? How to keep a check and be safe? Please help .. Tired of Hp

Hi,
my battery recently reported permanent failure, it was under warranty so I contacted Dell support to request a replacement. I've provided all the necessary information and had also ran some diagnostics, the person I was in contact with was happy with all the information provided and informed me that they'll send me a replacement.
Few days later he messaged me the below. I'm not quite sure why they need my whole laptop for this, I'm not really happy to have it collected and kept by them for what I can imagine will be several days if not  weeks. Is this a normal course of action for faulty battery?
"I forgot to tell you that the warranty on the system is Collect and Return, which means we have to collect that system and have that fully diagnosed and checked through our repair team. "

A:Replacement of battery under warranty

It depends on the system you have.  If the battery isn't user-removeable (i.e., it's inside the system rather than easily removed by sliding a latch externally),it's not a user repair and you will need to return the system to the depot for service.

I guess this isn't a Yoga-specific question but wasn't sure where to put it. I'm ordering a replacement AC adapter for my Yoga 3 Pro on the lenovo.encompass.com site. But there's nowhere to enter the serial number so I can order it under warranty. I get to the purchase screen and it's going to charge me full price. I've entered my warranty info on the main support site, but when I get to the parts site it doesn't recognize that. Basically, how do I order the part under warranty without having to pay for it?

I receive a Smart Drive error of "Immanent Failure, back-up immediately"... and of course its been telling me this for close to 2yrs now. my Question is this, "Is my Hard Drive covered under its manufacturers warranty or HP's warranty?". My Laptop is no longer warranted by HP but the manufacturer has a 5yr. warranty on its internal hard drives and my hard drive isn't 5yrs old yet. The HHD I'm referring to came installed within my laptop at the time I purchased it. Anything else you need to know? Thank you.

Does hdd replacement in my S75-B7316 mean warranty lose? There is no separate cover for hdd so have to remove whole back cover to do this.

Welcome to the Community Forums. 
 
As a general rule, CRU (customer replaceable parts ) will not void the warranty as listed from the hardware manual . However most upgrades on this model shows that such are considered FRU (field replaceable unit) , meaning you would have to open up additional parts and might require skill and specific tools thus CRU ID is N. (item6 page 72 ).
 
1. Upgrading your RAM however would not void any warranty.
We had same issue discussed on this thread . 
On quotes: " Similar to this query is this case  for the Z500 replacement of optical drive which is also a CRU Id - N and this thread. 
 
 
Warranty agreement :
 
What this Warranty Does not Cover 
- failure or damage resulting from misuse, abuse, accident, modification, unsuitable physical or operating environment, natural disasters, power surges, improper maintenance, or use not in accordance with product information materials 
-damage caused by a non-authorized service provider
-failure of, or damage caused by, any third party products, including those that Lenovo may provide or integrate into the Lenovo product at your request
 
Warranty is not covered if during the process of modification , damage or accidents may incur both on the replaced parts and the original devices ." 
 
The answer would be no , upgrading  the harddrive ,RAM will not void your warranty not unless that original parts gets damage because of or during the process of upgrade. 
 
For best measure , you may give Lenovo Tech a call so that they would be able to note it on your account for the pc that you have plan for upgrades .
 
2. Changing the original operating system would not void the hardware warranty , but support for the software such as the new or original Operating System (example to restore it back/ drivers issue etc.) would be users responsibility and functionality thereof.

I just had my toshiba satellite pentium xp-sp mobile processor RAM gigs into the authorize warranty depot for a replacement of the mouse pad as the warranty was almost up It is now over this was May I had called a week and a half earlier however they said toshiba notebook? can't bios after warranty password replace mouse pad replacement of the parts were delayed and did not arrive until the day before my warranty was up I can't replace bios password after warranty replacement of mouse pad toshiba notebook? had to go in for medical surgery directly after and did not use the computer until this past week and noticed when I took can't replace bios password after warranty replacement of mouse pad toshiba notebook? the notebook down to my software techie who was removing Norton Systemworks for me as I don t how to do it cleanly that my BIOS password was not in place He tried to replace it however it would not set I phoned the warranty depot and I am not a tech oriented person and know little about BIOS and I should say that my software techie called them as can't replace bios password after warranty replacement of mouse pad toshiba notebook? well I should say that I have used this software techie since I have owned the computer and he knew that I had a BIOS password and so he discussed the issue with the warranty depot tech who replaced my mouse pad The tech replied that he did not touch my main board and thus it was not his fault and he told my software techie to have me call him which I did I told him that I noticed that he did not boot my computer in front of me when he had me test the mousepad that he brought out my notebook from the back room repair station and had me check out the mouse pads which worked fine and then he also mentioned that he had looked at my PCMCIA slot pins visually and used the air duster on it but could see no issues I mention this as I advised him via phone before I went to have the mouse pads replaced that I had just recently had a problem with the PC card not recognizing my hardware and so I asked him to check it as the warranty was nearing its end I should also comment that the PC card was working when I took it into the shop and so we discussed the fact that I may not have seated the card in the slot so that there was a good contact and that was the end of the discussion Since I did not use my notebook due to my health until last week I had no realization that the BIOS password was not working On the phone he said I must have possibly had the computer near moisture which I definitely did not He admitted that he had not seen a notebook so free of dust in the openings and in overall such good shape as he indicated he sees so many with food etc on them and my computer was in excellent condition as he put it I told him I am an accountant and don t eat around my computer etc and I also use the air duster compressed air on it weekly into all the openings and have for the past years that I have owned it Now the warranty depot says that my main board likely has an issue with the BIOS chip and that they charge hr and that the board will cost - I had to pull teeth to get documentation on the work that was done under warranty and noted that the mouse pad part was quot Used quot and the area where quot Condition quot was categorized was quot blank quot But that was after I got the computer back to work as I was in a hurry when I left I never thought that I should have had him boot the computer when I was there He says there is no quot jumper quot on this notebook whatever that is and that he did not disconnect anything that my main board coincidentally must have given out right after I left his shop He claims that there was no BIOS password on the unit and I told him it was working when I booted my notebook an hour before I brought it to this Toshiba authorized depot There are no updates for the BIOS on this notebook as my software techie checked for this on Toshiba s Support site and he tried again to put in m... This is an fyi about the final resolution of this issue.  After a lot of arguing dell sent me what was supposed to be the touchpad but what I got was only the plastic palmrest no touchpad. Then because it's a "daughter card" I got more argument about the touchpad.  I got hot enough that I opened up the back, lifted out the battery, took out the two funky looking screws and the whole pad just fell right out of the machine.  The buttons seemed fine so I screwed it back down, put the battery back in and closed it up.  It's now great, the button was indeed hung up on the edge of the plastic palmrest.  This is a very well designed inside machine, it all screws down and all connections are with plugs or ribbon cables.  I wrote back to dell and told them they need to fire their tech manual writers because they're idiots, a monkey could have done this.  Apparently it is not easy to find only the mouse pad it's generally sold with the palmrest from what I can tell.  This whole machine is so well designed I scratch my head why the cpu isn't socketed unless they decided there was no room for a socket etc, which I can see that argument.  So if your mouse pad quits try popping it out first it may just be hung up.

sir service engineer told me that your ram socket burns due to heat or power fluctuation  and so we have to change your motherboard for that and this is not covered in your warranty. i have adp warranty .So can i arugu with them in these conditions  ?Is warranty doesnot cover issue due to power fluctuation , which cover accidental protection, too ?

As the title suggests - my invoice specifically says 3yrs warranty was purchased with my M3800 in November 2014. I'm now showing as out of warranty after 2yrs
I'm having issues with a screen that was replaced in May/June 2016 and would like a replacement as I believe the unit is faulty. Please can you get in touch to resolve.

Help please. HP Support Assistant changed overnight and now shows Warranty Expired and date Dec 2015 when I bought the PC. Expiry date should be 3 December 2016.Have sent HP Warranty Dispute form and evidence of purchase (twice). No response. Have used Assistant Agent twice and was very pleased with excellent service. Because warranty is out of date, according to HP, contact with them is limited and try as I can I have been unable to get a phone call through to customer service (its always busy!). I have even contacted HP  Head Office who gave me the same phone number and a complaints e- mail address which turned out to be in South America! Message on HP Support Assistant  received today asks me to continue  warranty by paying for 2 year cover. Have paid for this today and hope this will sort situation. Meanwhile who can I e mail at HP in the UK to resolve this?

I have just bought a HP larpto and the speakers are faulty. I know this because when I plug in earphones the sound is good but with just speakers it is no good. how do i report this to HP ?? If this is the same system you asked about in your other threads, it was purchased outside Dell's sales channel in a country where Dell has no corporate presence --  all service, support and information comes from your seller.  
From the sound of it, the system either has a bogus service tag or was purchased as greymarket goods.

How can I update my graphis card without voiding my warranty

If the battery is original to the system, it's between 4 and 5 years old - and likely well past its design life.  A "refurbished" system of that model is not the same as a "refurbished" new system - was it purchased direct from Dell, or elsewhere?

Hi I bought a display unit of AiO at the Singapore COMEX 2016 1 week ago. Sales rep told me there's on site 3 years warranty given by HP but when I set up the unit and there was a pop up warranty indicating the warranty period only covers 1 year.And the registration was done by the retailer when the pc was put on display in the event. Please advise what I can do to obtain the 3 years revised status? So, my HP Envy x360 has a screen problem that I described in an earlier post, but the situation that I am in currently is that around February, I contacted HP to get a box to send my laptop back and get it repaired in. Now, I couldn't send it back at the time because I needed it every day for classes. So, I decided to wait until the end of the school year, not thinking that my warranty expires in April . System is a dell studio xps 435mt/ os 7 premium/ I7 CPU/ 8 gigs of ram/ ati video card just replaced 3 months ago/ hitachi deskstar 500g hd/power supply delta 360w.

Had no error messages. Was running fine, it had a few glitches but nothing serious. I attempted to power up the system but nothing , it has power the green light is on for the power supply.. I get one amber light when i press the power button on front panel, and one flicker of the red light on the video card.

This system is only 2 years old. The warranty expired on it's second birthday, which was the day after the warranty ran out.

Hi! I have a quick question, my laptop came with a mechanical hard disk which i would like to replace with a solid state.The problem is that there is a sticker saying "Warranty void if label tampered with or removed" covering one of the screws. The end date of warranty is until Jul 2017. What i should do? Why HP is doing this really? I never owned a laptop which was impossible to upgrade the ram or the hdd...

Hello Seven Forum,
Had a PC built last year and is still under warranty. Need to take back as their is Hardware problems. Found this out doing a Memory Diagnostic Test. The question I wish to ask is that I have 2 internal hardrives and 1 external drive. 1xSSD & 1X mechanical HD inside. I have backedup all my documents,music and photos on the external HD but what else do I need to do as I am not comfortable handing over my PC with other stuff such as personal contacts and emails. Hope someone can help.

Are you worried about actually losing something or are you worried about someone snooping into your contacts and emails when you'd rather they didn't?

Your email and contacts are likely on your C drive. You could back them up as well. Also bookmarks. Where that stuff is depends on what browser and email you use.

You could actually remove any non-operating system drives if necessary---unless that might somehow cause a warranty issue.

I can understand your reluctance. I'd probably remove hard drives when possible, even if I had the stuff backed up.

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook, well out of warranty. I keep getting the pop-up to buy an extended warranty (which I do not want), and when I click 'next', it refers to inability of IE to respond. I purchased an Inspiron 7359 2-in-1 from Amazon on Sept 30, 2016.  When I registered the product the Service Assistant showed that it was purchased on Feb 1, 2016 and that my warranty would expire on May 2, 2017.  How do I get my warranty extended to the correct 1 year coverage as stated on the Dell web site?  I have tried to contact support in several ways and have had no luck.  example:  when trying to email, the form keeps telling me to input my phone number in phone number format but will not accept any format I tried and, therefore, I cannot complete the email and submit it.  I'm hoping someone from Dell monitors the forums and will offer some help.  Or if anyone else has had this issue, how was it resolved.  Thanks.

If the system was purchased direct from Amazon itself, all you need to do is register the date you purchased the system with Dell (see link):

There are however, many vendors with storefronts on Amazon -- if you purchased from a reseller with an Amazon storefront, you may need to go back to the seller so that vendor can initiate a transfer of warranty.  There are many sellers out there that provide "grey market" goods that are not sold through authorized channels.  Hopefully yours isn't one of them, since it's not uncommon for Dell to deny warranty on non-authorized sources.

Desktop purchased with 3yr warranty; back 3 times for repair. On 4th occasion it is returned unrepaired with a note that warranty does not cover it.  There should be a replacement machine of serviceable quality or a refund for both the machine and the warranty fee.  What sort of customer service is HP providing?  I will not be purchasing HP again if this what is on offer, and advising anybody else I speak to that they should avoid this company.

My 15" Acer Chromebook CB5-571 just died a couple of weeks past the warranty deadline. It was wonky when I first got it from the Play Store but the updates seemed to help. Now it just died and won't start. Where can we go for recompense on these defective machines? I'm not willing to shell out around 1/3 of the purchase price for a battery when I'm not sure that's the issue. Google Play is nice, but not when the machines they're selling are crap and nobody can own up to the issues.

I'm having issues doing a clean install on this PC. It seems it comes with Windows 8 installed and another tech downgraded it to windows 7. I was then told to do a clean install on it and pulled the cd key with a program and installed Windows 7 Pro with a ISO I have. Now it won't activate the key saying it is invalid. I have the CDs coming from HP that I guess might help but I need this PC working today really. Is the key it pulled really a windows 8 key and just said 7 since that what was installed when I used the program to pull it? What are my options to get an active key?

Because the computer came pre-installed with Windows 8 the key is embedded in firmware. You can download the media creation tool here. You will need to download it using a Windows 7 or 8 computer.
 
Follow the clean install steps here. If you need data off the drive you can pull it using a live linux disk like FatDog64 or Hirens CD. You may need to disable SecureBoot in BIOS but I believe it has already been disabled if you are booting Windows 7. When you get to the Window asking for the Windows 8.1 key do not input anything and click Next. Windows 8.1 will self activate when online. 
 
If you cannot click next then use one of these generic keys depending on what version of 8 was on the computer.

The key you pulled may be for Windows 7. You can verify it using this utility. When you input the key what is listed under Edition Type?

I just bought it a week ago and I still haven't registered it for mafucaturer's warranty coverage because I have to wait until the store warranty is over (otherwise they won't accept the item for return or exchange if it is registered to Manufacturer).
Anyways, it has 4 RAM slots (16GB max RAM) and only 2 so far are used (4+4GBs). If I added 2 more RAM cards to it (upgrade RAM myself), would it void the manufacturers 1 year warranty?

I ordered my Laptop from Paytm on 28th may 2016 and after installing and checking the warranty details through HP Support Assistant, I have received only a 8 month Warranty instead of getting 1 Year On-Site warranty. Please let me know what can I do for getting it extended for 4 more months.

My 15" Acer Chromebook CB5-571 just died a couple of weeks past the warranty deadline. It was wonky when I first got it from the Play Store but the updates seemed to help. Now it just died and won't start. Where can we go for recompense on these defective machines? I'm not willing to shell out around 1/3 of the purchase price for a battery when I'm not sure that's the issue. Google Play is nice, but not when the machines they're selling are crap and nobody can own up to the issues.

I extended my warranty but warranty was tagged with another serial no of laptop and my laptop is out of warranty. For more details, I have marked a mail also and locked a case [Personal Information Removed] in customer care. Its a fraud by HP/partners. Please check and suggest on priority.

Hi everybody, I just bought a wonderful notebook Lenovo M30-70, I live in Italy. I would like to remove the original hard drive and replace it with a SSD, which I carefully checked the compatibility. A:Notebook M30-70 - SSD and warranty

Technically opening the back of the laptop can void the warranty since there are no consumer replaceable parts (CRUs) inside your model.  Fortunately most Lenovo Service Centers understand that owners will upgrade the memory and change hard drives so they tend to over look the fact that the laptop has been previously opened.  If you use care in opening the laptop and center your activities on just replacing the hard drive I don't think you will have a problem, but keep in mind the Service Center makes that final determination.   Also keep in mind if the system ever needs to be sent in the warranty won't cover the new SSD drive.  That warranty is provided by the SSD drive's manufacturer. 
 
For your reference I have included a link below to your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual that explain how to remove the exisiting hardware.  Please follow any advice or pre-cautions the manual has to offer.

Hi guys as lenovo y50 user i got some problems with overheatin, temperature i think are the same for all about 77/78, i already got a cooling pad and it's help me but it keep the temperature 1 or 2 degree less, the problem is the dust inside fan so i think i will open it. The question is if i open the back of my pc warranty will void?PS->  i already used  the cleaning dust tool and seems quite useless if u need to clean the mess, i think it just help hold the fan clean.

How can I have my PC fixed when the item was bought in the USA and now used in the Philippines. It is still under warranty but the HP service Center here in Cebu Philippines can not help because they do not have parts for this unit because they do not sell this unit here in the Philippines.

Hello every one i just bought  a new hp laptop in pakistan from a local. he gave me one year warranty <invoice>while when i connected the laptop to internet a message popped up showing that my laptop warranty will expore in the next month in july and laptop warrantty was started in july 15. so tell me how the warranty thing work in pakistan .or is this a Fruad or somthing . and he did't even give me the warranty card so please help me .if someone have had experince in buying hp laptop. my laptop model is hp pavilion notebook 15 ab057.

Hello everyone, yesterday I brought a new HP laptop and I wish to install a SSD with a caddy, replacing the DVD reader.  My question is, if I do this replacement, the warranty will be invalidate? There is only one screw to remove to dislodge the DVD reader, so I don't need to diassemble the whole laptop. Thank you!

It will not void warranty if you download the update and update the Unit form Win8.1 to Win10. You may create the USB recovery media before making any changes on your computer. Install all the updates for windows 8.1 and wait for the windows update 10 icon to be displayed in taskbar.

Hello, my company has resold nearly 100 Acer laptops in the last year. All have worked great except one. It will not charge a battery. We have verified this by swapping batteries from identical units.
 
The real issue is that we cannot get this unit replaced. It was purchased from Newegg Business and when calling the support number and entering the SNID [edited for privacy]the automated system says it's out of warranty and sends us to the 3rd party.
 
So then we communicate with Newegg who says Acer has verified the warranty and for us to call back. This has been going on for over 7 months! Meaning in less than 5 months the real warranty will expire though this thing has never been used.
 
Please help!

A:No Warranty Support

Thanks, we tried that many times. The Newegg rep just found that by using the chat support and entering the full Serial Number it finally worked. The phone support nor chat would accept the SNID. So this was the root of the  problem.

I am really unhappy with hp warranty services i have recently bought a hp pavillion notebook due to some reason my windows got corrupted and now service center is asking me to order a recovery disk py paying money even though it is not a hardware issueI have to pay extra 1000 rs bucks to order the recovery disc even though my laptop is underwarranty . I am really pissed with hp servicesAnd me and my family have been hp customers for a while. If there is anything you guys can do to improveMy warranty status let me know.

Sorry i didnt know where else to put this in lol Ok so im Warranty Computer on the pay weekly thing with the computer i have which is a Scaleo P Computer Warranty Fujitsu Siemens and i have been on the for years now and still currently on it until August this year Now when i want the computer serviced i get it free because im on a plan now im currently collecting info and prices of components for this computer to upgrade it but because im still on the plan and the Computer Warranty computer is years old not to mention it keeps restarting without warning and the computer and its components are out-dated can i have them upgrade it my computer for free cause im not really sure such as new graphics card processor RAM and PSU This was what i was planning to do myself but if i can get it done for free that would be great I know im on the plan but i dont Computer Warranty know if i can upgrade it for free as im paying for a year old computer that isnt worth what im going to pay for it in the end and would like up to date components Thanks in advance

I doubt very seriously they will up date it for free, but you have to read the contract to be sure.

It is getting old, in computer years, but a lot of it depends on what you use it for.

Also plan on replacing the hard drive down the road. Hard drives will die after a period of time.

The restarting could be as simple problem as it is dirty/dusty inside, i.e.heat!
