I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I have just been asked an interesting question, and I could not answer for sure.
Suppose you are running 8.1, then upgrade, and rollback in the free period.
We all know that establishes a digital licence.
We also know we can clean install at any time in the future.
Also, we know we can upgrade aa second time in the free period.
BUT can we upgrade again (keeping all files - forget wisdom of doing this) after the free period ends?
My gut feel is we must be able to do so, as you can already upgrade an unactivated version of windows 8.1 but the upgraded version would remain unactivated assuming no prior digital licence.
I assume the upgrade would check for a digital licence anyway. In worst case, you might need to use tbe Redstone Activation Troubleshooter.
I suspect an upgrade after the free period will require an upgrade license, and so, a clean install to grab the digital entitlement will be necessary. But if you upgrade, why not make an image before falling back?http://www.tenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/56757-reupgrading-after-free-period-ends.html
Im curious if the system tray icon and nagging Windows disappeared. Anyone still on 7 or 8 who turned off gwx control panel and can confirm that those are gone?
I'm also curious about the install files they downloaded to your PC. Are those removed automatically?
who and why is anyone going for the free Win10 upgrade ? I do online stuff and gaming.... I do not have a tablet.... at current our computer run Win 8.1. I signed up a while back for the free Win10 upgrade.... is there a thread for this discussion already?
Lots of Windows 10 news here ... Windows 10 News - Windows 10 Forumshttp://www.eightforums.com/general-support/68757-who-why-anyone-going-free-win10-upgrade.html
I know someone with a Vista (Business) PC and he received a free upgrade notice to Win10. Is this correct and if so does it just mean that the OS will be installed without saving apps and files?

The free upgrade applies to qualified computers that are running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8/8.1.
It does NOT apply to computers that are running Windows Vista.
I'm still on Win7, I noticed that their pop up window to install Win10 has changed, there is no option to select another date for the install, it were only ever 3 days ahead anyhow.
I'm wondering, is the free offer coming to an end then?
Looking through some of the past threads on here, I see that some have reverted back to their old OS after dabbling with Win10, I'm wondering if I should even bother/risk trying it to be honest?.....Although I dare say that I'll be forced to in the end.
The offer is for a year - July 2016 (it was released on 29th July 2015)
My laptop was victim of a virus that destroyed some register files and even System Restore could not fix it. My only choice is to format the hdd and reset to the OS in the chip which is Win 8, but I had already upgraded to Win 10. How can I recover my Win 10 Key so I can reinstall and activate Win 10?
Thanks / Arturo
There is no free key. If your computer came with Windows 8.x, the key is in the bios. If you wish to install from the iso, do the install without activation, then once you get into the GUI, then do the activation and it will go through.http://www.tenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/62231-how-recover-win10-key-free-upgrade-8-1-a.html
i have a couple laptops that both came with windows 8.1 that im going to be selling. both were upgraded to win10 during the free upgrade period and both are currently on anniversary edition. when i look at the activation page, it says "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your microsoft account". naturally, i will reset windows before sale so does this mean the new owner will not be able to activate windows 10 since it wont be done with my acct? do i need to track down restore media for each and put win8 back on?
That's actually very interesting because historically and even when I had my stint on Windows 10, the license is tied to the machine, not the user. What I would do is reset those laptops and set them up with a local account and see if the activation status is an issue.http://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-10/445645-free-win10-upgrade-transferable-another-owner.html
Hello i bought Pc from 1 guy.
its care who is that guys...
but my question is
if i can upgrade to windows 10 without purchasing them, or buying key
i started PC and microsoft quested me if i want to upgrade because my win7 is old
Hi Welcome to Windows Central! Give this a look. I have no experience with this, so you're on your own! http://forums.windowscentral.com/e?l...token=tEsdeZOrhttp://forums.windowscentral.com/ask-question/442605-can-i-upgrade-win7-win10-free.html
my friend is unsure if he wants Windows 10 or not...he currently has XP. It has passed the Windows 8 compatability test, so will accept Windows 10. If I install Windows 7 pro as a clean install, then upgrade to Windows 10....but after the 30 days, decide to reinstall Windows 7, will Ithen be able to reinstall Windows 10 at some time in the future, without cost. I hope that once windows 10 is installed, that a key is generated for his PC which will allow him to reinstall Windows 10 to the same PC at any time in the future....
Am I correct in these assumptions ???
thank you in advance...
I have a new OEM Vista Home Premium computer that qualifies for a free upgrade to 7. I registered in August and am expecting a CD to arrive in the next month, hopefully.
I know a clean install usually works better than an upgrade, but I don't know if it can be done with the CD they will be shipping. I'm hoping so.
I was just wondering if anyone here knows what to expect from our friends at Microsoft. Is it going to be a full version, or are we going to end up with a patchwork kludge of an OS?
Nobody really knows because Microsoft likes to keep this information secret until what seems like release day.
At this point most of us assume you will be able to clean install the full version using the upgrade media. Simply because of the fact that Windows 2000 or XP could not be upgraded to 7 by doing an in-place upgrade. Also you cannot upgrade a 32-bit version to 64-bit version (or vice versa) without doing a clean install.
Microsoft has stated that you can do a clean install using the upgrade media. What is not clear is the procedure for doing so.
So far it seems that:
A) a previous version of 2000, XP or Vista must be installed and genuine in order for the upgrade to work (but 2000 cannot be activated, so that's also unclear)
B) you might be required to install Windows 7 on the same partition that the previous OS was installed to (although I think this is unlikely)

I've downloaded the Win10 ISO to upgrade my Win 7, but I don't want to perform the upgrade at this time. Does anyone know if the "free upgrade" is keyed to the download of the ISO, meaning I can install after the deadline without cost? Or when I install, if after the deadline, is the registration process going to require me to pay?

That one. Downloading the ISO file by itself does nothing. Microsoft gave you a whole year to prepare for the free upgrade if you wanted to wait that long.
Am going away for extended period.
When does the free offer terminate please?
currently it is end of julyhttp://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/37004-free-install-period.html

I have some older computers running xp pro. Now i know these computers cant handle win7 because i tried. But also i have software that I use that wont work on win7. My question is when support ends in 2014 and I need to re-install the OS will the latest SP3 have or most of the updates i need? Or is there software that is simple to use to create an image? Or can i download the updates manually so that i can put them in myself. Please advise. Thanking you in advance
I need to get update to end, so I can install an new update.
Welcome to the SevenForums raymm.
If necessary go into "Task Manager" and force an "End Process." If that doesn't work then attempt a "Restart", and finally if that won't fix the problem, then do a "Force Shutdown" by holding your computers "Power Button" for at least five seconds. From there do a restart and see what happens. Please let us know the out come.
At Paragon Software, we believe that system and data protection is underrated by many users. Unfortunately, this subset of users only think about safeguarding their PCs after disaster has already struck. For a limited period, we're therefore offering the software for absolutely no cost.
To take advantage of this offer, click the download button below, then download the software, install it and activate it. Note: during the installation process you will be asked to register the product using a valid email address, in order to receive a free serial number.

We have five Dell precision t7400s. Three of them in use, one is a spare, the fifth is off site, and needs to be put to use.
I took an image of one of the PCs that was in use, imaged it on to the spare 7400, and it worked fine. I then did a sysprep, oobe, and generalization. I then took an image.
I put the syspreped image on the off site PC, and it has been taking several hours to get through the "setup is installing devices".. when it finishes, it encounters an error with the unattended xml... and I'm stuck with a fudged windows install.
Does anyone have an idea what is going on here?
Not sure exactly what is happening there, but I and others ran across an issue where booting the machine with the sysprepped image stalls during configuration.
The solution that has worked for me and some others is:
1. reboot into safe mode and run until that stalls.
2. reboot into normal mode.
Hopefully that will lead to a successful configuration.
Might work for you.
I received the free win 10 upgrade from an invitation to reserve the upgrade. The other day, a Ransomware hit me, and though I believe I may have immediately tracked & deleted all affected files I could find, I hardly believe I could be so skilled as to be successful.
I had this happen last year, and ended up formatting the unit, and reloading Win 7. I don't want to have to go back to 7, but how do I get another Win 10? Is there a key I need to find & save? A free site that I can get a copy on a flash drive to load from? Any help would be appreciated. I have no clue how to proceed since it's an online download, and once formatted, the unit won't be able to get online without the OS
you can download the newest build of windows 10 > http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10
boot from the setup media - remove every partition (wipe) the HDD
and clean install widows 10
since you already had win7 and windows 10 on that PC - if asked for product key - just skip that screen
If you've been using the 30-day version of Microsoft Office 2010, here's a nice tip for you: the testing period can be extended for up to six months. Much like Windows, the popular productivity suite contains a so called rearm function that gives you 30 extra days to activate the program. The command can be used up to five times, and if used at the end of each 30-day grace period, you can run Office 2010 for up to 180 days without entering an activation key.

Accessibility and the Windows 10 Free Upgrade
I am not sure if I have win 8.1 pro or win 8.1Says 8.1 pro in mscinfo but doesnt allow me to install win 8.1 pro features. Anyway that is not the issue I am writing about. Issue is , I had my laptop crashed 1 month after I installed Win 10. it required HD replacement by HP, at which stage I was told not to ugrade to win 10 as my laptop will not handle it. My Question is:free upgrade to wn 10 ends soon.what happens when my OS will no longer be supported by MSWhat is actually the problem that causes HP notebooks to crash? Is there a feature in win 10 that can be turned off to avoid causing the crash?Atleast we can keep up with the updates!! Need some help to understand what the actual issue is and if there has been some workaround found by now.SDhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Win10-upgrade-deadline-arrived-cannot-upgrade-what-next/td-p/5688369
Anyone know if there is a 'best' one?
I'm currently using Avast on my Win7 PC, wife bought a laptop almost a month ago that came with Win10 pre installed and McAfee, the 30 day free trial is almost up.
Windows 10 includes a built-in AV program, good article about it and some other things you can do here :- http://www.howtogeek.com/225385/what?s-the-best-antivirus-for-windows-10-is-windows-defender-good-enough/
I have a Win 7 Pro 64 bit PC (desktop) and have been offered Win 10 Free
I also have Win 7 Pro 32 bit (laptop) but haven't been offered Win 10 Free for that. Why?
Hi Graphicool I suggest you to bring this issue in the thread I created since there's quite a few users that have it and it'll be better to have it all in one thread.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/579044/support-thread-for-the-get-windows-10-app-not-working/Also, it contains a link to all the solutions you should try first.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/580751/why-havent-i-been-offered-win10-free/
Is it still possible to upgrade to Windows 10 for free ?
hi the free period is over so no not that I know ofhttp://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/401838-upgrading-win7-win10-free.html
Looks like the only way you can get free MBAM is to install a 14 day trial of the Premium version. Should I disable Win 10 Defender during this period or disable MBAM or can they run together? I ask because my SIL's new PC seems to be restarting for no apparent reason. I have disabled MBAM (I think) but maybe I missed a setting that is causing an issue. Thanks.
Keep Defender in place...MBAM is a different tool altogether...Only 1 scan should be ran at a time however...http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,155661.0.html

Wondershare Filmora is a very affordable and easy to use video editor. I've been using it for some time on my laptop with Windows 7 and have had no problems. It has some excellent features and might be worth considering for Windows 10. Link here for information:
I already know about the trick where you update then revert, and the computer you updated on will be able to upgrade again for free after July 29th, but what if I won't have the computer I want to upgrade until after this date?
I'm getting a MacBook Air in August. I like how any programs made for Macs will work (for the most part) because each Mac has set specs, but I'm not a huge fan of the Mac OS. But then I learned about dual booting on Mac, and so I thought that if I dual booted Mac and Windows I'd get the best of both worlds. But then I learned that Windows 10 will only be free until July 29th, so is there a way I can 'reserve' the copy until then? Or will I just have to pay the $119 if I really want to do it?
Someone else might think of a way but the answer is no. You can't get a free upgrade after 7/29.http://www.tenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/51762-can-i-get-win10-free-after-july-29th-year.html
Anyone grabbed the latest version WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe on GOTD here? I missed this giveaway since my laptop is sent to our downtown repair store a few days ago by my Mom, who thought Windows 10 upgrade notification on my laptop was a kinda fishy virus...
I've searched on google, bravo there is another official giveaway of WinX HD Video Converter Delxue V5.6.0! On top of all that, I noticed this giveaway code is valid to activate till July 31.
You betcha, it means I can reinstall the program on Window 10 by activating the code that time.

My wife's computer could not upgrade to win 10 cause it had an old video card. I upgrade motherboard and video card. Win 7 is registered, but can not upgrade. The free upgrade tool still shows the other video card. Tried the media creation tool and still goes back to the upgrade box with the old card. Is there anyway to erase that upgrade box and redue it?
Check for any left over files or drivers from your old video card. Windows is still finding it somewhere. Check your device manager 1st just to see if its listing 2 video cards, then check your program folders for any left overs. Also just for backup reasons, download a program on this forum called Showkey which will give you the information on your currant Windows Key, incase you need it to upgrade to Windows 10.
When Win10 was released, I was offline.
Now I can't upgrade! I've reserved an upgrade, but it won't ask me to upgrade!
Welcome to the forum,
It hasn't asked me yet either, but that doesn't mean you can't upgrade.
You can do it manually, starting at step three here,

When I upgrade my 32 bit win 7 computer to win 10 can I choose to upgrade to 64 bit win 10?
You cannot do an in place upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. Going from 32-bit to 64-bit requires a clean install.http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/56098-upgrade-32-bit-win-7-64-bit-win10.html

Has anyone upgraded to Windows 10 on the hp 110-414 have you got any problems or bugs with it and is it running well on it and do you think I should upgrade
Because you may find that you need to install the Windows 10 driver for it after upgrading. With most notebooks there are two or three different adapters that could be installed. It helps to what is installed in yours. Use the search functiion in the forum and search for windows 10 wifi driver. You will notice that many members did not take the time to either locate the driver or know what is installed.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Hp-110-414-Win10-Upgrade/td-p/5579588
I have an older laptop (probably 6-7 years old, Dell Inspiron running Windows 7) and its been running fairly slow lately. I saw a notice that today is the last day to upgrade to Win10 for free. Just looking for some good advice on whether or not I should even consider upgrading.
My first thought is that, with an older machine, I probably have a lot of junk on my hard drive causing the slowness so I need to clean it up (which means I'll miss the "today is the last day" bit...but do I really care?). I also think maybe my processor won't be able to handle the new version, but not sure if that's really a concern or not.
Can I ask for some advice? Thanks

it not - July 2016 is
whats the exact model and also the service tag number
make sure there are windows 10 drivers available for the PC
you could always make a recovery set of DVDs (if you havent already , and i would advise you make them anyway) and do a windows 7 clean install
you may have a lot of startups or even malware on the PC slowing it down
Windows 10 Home Premium is currently installed on my desktop PC (1 GB HDD, 4GB RAM).
There's been quite a few problems with the Gigabyte motherboard, and I'd like to change to a new motherboard, while keeping the Intel Processor, RAM, HDD and DVD drive unchanged. Even the case and the power unit would remain unchanged.
I plan to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium, and then upgrade to Windows 10 using the Win10 .iso.
But would that be OK by Microsoft's system and rules ? Am asking because apparently Windows 10 when installed and activated gets tied with the specific hardware. Have heard that one can't activate again with different hardware.
I am on a Dell Pentium Win home sb I decided to install Win but when I click upgrade it will look like it is downloading but then goes to the Win quot update quot menu I ran what updates it had but when it finished there was no Win After a reboot I clicked quot UPGRADE'' again and the same thing went to Win quot update quot menu and showed a whole bunch of new win7 installing over win10 ones available that didn't show before downloaded them and same thing no Win anywhere so thought it was time to ask the experts A few months ago I downloaded Win with no problems I did not like it installing win10 over win7 so brought win back with no problems now see they have made the start page like win that was the thing I did not installing win10 over win7 like so know they will stop supporting Win soon thought it was time to upgrade Any help with this will be greatly appreciated Hefshttp://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-10-a/129934-installing-win10-over-win7.html
I have now decided to bite the bullet and go for the Win10 upgrade. Before I do I would like to know more about the procedure, Can anyone direct me to a good source of information on the subject.

Make a back up of all your data

Hi everyone, this is my first visit and post and I hope you can assist
where others have failed. I have tried to install Win 10
on two machines and neither of them would work, both telling me that the CPU was not
good enough or words to that effect.
PC1 has Intel Pent G3220 3.00 GHz Haswell chip.
PC2 has Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHz.
Both of these are way over the required
minimum spec so I cannot understand why Win10 will not install.
Welcome to the forum. Its likely either your cpu cant handle PAE, NX and SSE2 or its not set in the bios
To test for PAE, NX, and SSE2, download a program called "CPU-Z" and run it. On the main window, look under the "Instructions" heading for SSE2, EM64T (which also indicates the processor supports PAE) and either VT-d or VT-x, which is required for NX support. If you have all 3, then you are good to go.
The WIN10 free upgrade deadline is here, and I cannot seem to upgrade my Split X2 easily... at least by using SETUP. Is there a known way to do so?http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/I-would-like-to-upgrade-my-HP-Split-X2-to-win10-but-cannot/td-p/5703508
My current computer has a retail copy of Win8. I'm building a new PC this weekend and I want to utilize the free upgrade to Win10 from my current retail version of 8, but I understand the free upgrade is tied to hardware.
Would my best option be to migrate Win8 to the new PC and upgrade from there? Alternatively, would I be better to just upgrade to 10 now and then migrate to the new PC afterwards? I imagine I can just discover the product key using something like Belarc Advisor, but then I don't know if the key will be accepted for activation on the new hardware... Thoughts?
Been a long time 5+ years since I reloaded windows. Is it better to reload it and go to Win10 or
Just go to Win 10 and hope for the best.... Only problem is the browsers are running a little slow
and have to be restarted
Going straight to Windows 7 and using Windows 7 key to activate it is generally more reliable than upgrading.http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/45754-win-7-scratch-before-win10-upgrade.html
Hi all, i have a Precision M4700 with windows 7 SP1 OEM, i'm confused, can i install windows 10 pro for free or do i have to purchase an upgrade license (if i do it now, before the 29th July) ?
Consider i work in an Enterprise environment but the license applied to my PC is the OEM, not the one under Corporate agreement.
Thanks for a clarification/confirmation.
Yes, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. You will also need to update the drivers to Windows 10 as well. Click the link below to download the drivers for your M4700.

Hello i have a L50-B-1P1 laptop and i`m experiencing a few problems after windows 10 upgrade
1 R7 video driver missing so no catalyst present therefore i have low frames and frezess in games
2 Microphone producing garbeld voice when recording
I know that the series is discontinued but there should be some kind of fix for the problems i`m experiencing atm.
I don`t want to downgrade to wind 8.1/7
What are your exact spec, Processor, RAM and OS type 32 bit / 64 bit
Depending on what it is you may be able to use the new AMD Crimson drivers instead. I have a L50D-C-13G and I abandoned the catalyst drivers for Crimson drivers and my machine is running great. I have an A10-8700P Carrizo R6 with windows 8.1 and it works great for me. The driver lists compatible hardware, read through it and see if your machine is supported.

however l do have a list of the updates l dont want to install.. yet the win 10 upgrade is back l removed the program dir manually because l couldnt find an associated update.
just wondered if anyone knew if there was a newly labelled one.
How long generally does it take to upgrade to Win10 from Win7. Does it depend on HD & Processor?
I have an SSD and AMD Triple core 3.10GHz.
Win7 is pretty new clean install about 1&1/2 weeks old.
Roughly 1 hour maybe 1.5.http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/40961-time-upgrade-win10.html

i am runing a toshiba satelite using windows 7. the laptop originally came with windows 8, i couldnt bear the change so i switched back to 7 and today i want to get a legit copy of windows 10 -- that will last for over 1 year -- installed after reinstalling windows 8 (my win 7 isn't licensed). after running "ProduKey" i found a "windows BIOS OEM key" that apparently belongs to the OEM win 8.
can i install 8.1 with my win 8 OEM product key?
can i upgrade directly from windows 8 to 10 or do i need to update from 8 to 8.1 and from there upgrade to 10?
can i use the retail win 8 istallation files with an OEM product key or do i need the toshiba OEM installation files?
thank you very much for any help!
No need to install windows 8 - just install windows 8.1 via ISO and then upgrade to windows 10 via ISO
windows 10 just needs to see the activation of windows 7 or windows 8.1 to activate itself..
Hi all trying to upgrade my desktop self-built from Win to Win but it keeps getting stuck at configuring settings Since at that point there is no task manager or anything and my system has Win10 at upgrade keeps stuck 86% getting no hdd activity light it's hard to tell if anything is still happening The system has an ssd so should not be slow I've updated several laptops also crappy Win10 upgrade keeps getting stuck at 86% ones with slow hdd and it worked for all of them never taking longer than couple of hours Now the upgrade on my desktop has been running for hrs mostly stuck at that point I tried to upgrade it once already last fall and then I did not have this issue But system was very unstable and hence unusable with win and hence reverted back to So what are my options to troubleshoot I only have keyboard and mouse attached both USB and no other USB devices There are lots of applications installed and configured dev environment for my personal projects so I would really really like to avoid a clean install If it matters it it win professional and there is enough free space on c drive Should I unplug mouse and keyboard or even display dvi-dhttp://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/57202-win10-upgrade-keeps-getting-stuck-86-a.html
I am having issues with USB devices dropping since I upgraded to windows 10. I have tried updating device and use drivers, reinstalling devices and changing power settings for devices. This is a pain as I need to regularly make skype business calls and can't now via headset. Any help greatly appreciated.
i just bought myself a new HP slim line I5 desktop that came with windows 10 installed
i want to put a 250gb ssd in place of the mechanical 1TB hdd...how will the machine react to license activation?
can i just run a clean install of 10 and it will activate automatically (or rather skip license key ask...then activate when im online.
any advice appreciated
What's the exact product number(P/N) on that HP Slimline desktop?
What's the model number of that desktop?
I don't believe a Windows 10 computer comes with a sticker that has the 25-character product key like Windows 7 and earlier does.
Do you have that product key for activation purposes?
(Do not post it here!)
Several issues here. Firstly, when I attempt to download Skype it downloads the installation file just fine. Opening that exe file everything seems good. Uncheck the bing and ie browser crap, accept the license and away we go...and go....and go....and... It never seems to end. It states that Skype is installing and may take a few minutes. Well those minutes roll on for most of the evening.
Secondly, attempting to install using the Skypesetupfull program: Win 10 won't even allow that to happen. I get a message about incompatibility or something.
I have read on various forums that a good many people have had Skype vs Win10 issues, but a clear, concise work around eludes me.
Hi where did you download Skype from?
Have you tried uninstalling it and clearing it from all folders
Even the one on your C DRIVE under all users/ programs and programs 86
Then do a restart
Then go to the store and search
It will come up
That is the way I had to do it on my friends laptop who was having trouble with it
Once installed you can sign in one of 2 ways
Either your Microsoft Account or get a new Skype Account
I have a new PC on order that should be here next week. The machine will come with Win10 Pro loaded, before starting to install programmes on the machine I wonder if there are settings it is recommended I change or things I should look out for?
Reading some sites, they often mention Windows 10 has privacy issues but no one ever lets you know what to do about it, if anything.
Any help or advice would be most welcome.
i would remove all the trial ware that comes with the machines
check for windows 10 updates - but switch OFF the driver update option, you dont want generic windows drivers being installed
create a recovery USB drive (probably only need a 16GB drive) and you can keep that safe if ever needed
Then install all the programs you would like to use
I have used this guide to setup the settings on first setup
and remove all the notifications to Microsoft that are unnecessary
They are selling Win10 Home - Full Version (32 & 64-bit) / on a USB Flash Drive, is this the prefers way now these days ? Installing from CD seems a little 2010 am I wrong here ?
By the way is installing from USB painless ? also it will have a bare HDD, so basically build PC put together insert USB thumb drive then turn on PC for the first time then quickly press whatever key to get into the bios and then set boot from USB ? What about when the PC needs to reboot during install will it automatically know to keep reading from the UBS stick ? Sorry if that last part sounds like a dumb.
I haven't used a CD for anything in years
Was looking for solution for my problem everywhere but couldn't find a solution for my problem. So i hope someone here could help me.
So let me describe what is the problem.
Touchpad on my laptop is acting up. It is working, it is turned on and enabled and its drivers have been updated.
Problem is whenever I unplug my laptop from charging as in switching it to battery mode touchpad stops working. When laptop is plugged in and charging touchpad is working perfectly.
If any questions about the problem please do ask I'll let you know as much as i can
If you can find it in Device Manager check to see that it is not allowed to disable itself to save power. It's possible that you could find this setting in the current power plan also. Not sure if this will help but this might be a good starting point.http://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/59965-problems-touchpad-since-installing-win10.html
As an experiment I'm trying to install Win on an old Compaq laptop that originally ran XP but over the years I have upgraded it to Vista and an laptop Compaq Win10 old on Installing then Installing Win10 on an old Compaq laptop to Win and it still works OK It won't boot from USB so I made a DVD Installing Win10 on an old Compaq laptop of Win and while it starts to boot from that and puts up the little blue quot window quot logo hours later that's still there and there's no sign of activity -- other than when I remove the DVD Windows complains about being interrupted So since I have removed the OS partition to make room for Win it only has an GB drive I though that maybe the following could work Boot from a WinPE disk to get access to a file manager Copy the contents of the Win DVD to Installing Win10 on an old Compaq laptop a partition on the drive Right-click setup exe in the Win folder and run it -- to start the actual installation Anyone know for a fact this will NOT work -- and save me the time trying it I've also read that you can do much the same by mounting the ISO file but that would mean I would have to restore Win to the PC and install an ISO mounting app which I have -- and the problem with that is that there is then very little room left in the quot C quot partition and I want to do a clean-install anyway Comments anyone -- other than I'm quot crazy quot to even try this Oh and BTW it's a Compaq Presario US laptop -- has a P I believehttp://www.tenforums.com/installation-setup/44835-installing-win10-old-compaq-laptop.html
I'm going to have to buy a new computer. It already has Win10 installed. I have the purchased Win7 install disk. Can I install Win7 on the new one and use it (Win7) as the primary boot program? And if so, how should I go about it?
Hello Robert mate you need to let us know what that new machineis because there was a post just recent where a fellow had a 10 installed Lenovo machine which would not support 7. I myself bought an Asus ROG laptop a while back and luckily the downgrade 7 I had them put on worked but only after I had to update the BIOS to enable 7 drivers to be installed.
So lets know what the machine is and we can have a look .
You could possibly Google it yourself for that matter something along the lines of will my ******** abd1123 machine support 7. But it is becoming increasingly difficult to install 7 on 10 machines because of driver issues for example.
I am having an interesting yet frustrating experience upgrading to Windows Both my laptop and desktop have Windows Professional OEM installed Notification for my reserved upgrade was received for my laptop The installation was swift easy and immediately successful Notification for my reserved upgrade for the desktop has not yet been received So I downloaded Media Creation Toolx exe from Microsoft and attempted to install Windows directly onto my C SSD It failed Got this message Code X Y has been interesting Installing Win10 and frustrating - X D The installation failed in the SAFE-OS phase with an error during MIGRATE DATA Installing Win10 has been interesting and frustrating operation I attempted to install in the same way three Installing Win10 has been interesting and frustrating additional times and failed each Installing Win10 has been interesting and frustrating time I then took the Media Creation onto a flash drive and attempted to install that way When asked for the Windows Product Key it rejected both the key that came with the desktop and the one I obtained when I changed from HDD to SSD FYI I attempted all installs with the anti-virus disabled I also disabled both various apps and devices with each additional attempt I have checked many websites and Microsoft for a solution and have come up empty So I will simply have to wait with frustration for Microsoft to inform me that my reserved copy of the upgrade is available to me to execute
Either way, apparently you can only do an upgrade first (click here). There isn't supposed to be a key prompt for upgrade, as the OS you've got installed already, has it embedded somewhere. The key prompt is for the Win10 key, which doesn't exist, until after the update. So you cannot do a clean install until after upgrading.
In short, MSFT's own wording is terrible, as usual. They force you to update from your existing system in order to verify your existing system is valid. Merely typing in a key, is no longer acceptable to paranoid MSFT. That's why installation is now so much worse. How they think people will put up with it, I can't fathom. There's a limit to how much abuse, people are willing to take.
Here, you need the Win10 usb/iso, in order to rescue your Win10 installation in the future, so you're abused yet again, by the poor explanation that you must accept the UPGRADE (through the system tray or tool) in order to install Win10 at all. This is a departure, for you always used to be allowed dual-booting. Maybe still are, but he instructions don't make that plain.
I don't want to update to W10 yet and I have read that I cannot keep my current W7 installation along with a free upgraded a W10 from the same W7 key.
So, if I do the free upgrade from W7 to W10 and then go back to W7, will I keep the free upgrade on this PC if I install W10 after the summer 2016 deadline? Or going back to W7 will disable the free upgrade to W10?
Technically, your license has been converted to Windows 10 license and thus you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free past the deadline.
I saw many questions regarding this on Microsoft Answers too but this remains a mystery as of now.
I have been trying every fix possible or either the fixes I find are not compatible w/ my system. My burner is a Toshiba CDDVDW TS-L633N,http://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/36776-my-dvd-rom-does-has-not-worked-since-win8-1-upgrade-i-now-have-win10.html
I've a A70 ThinkCentre initialy with W7.
Since the update (almost compulsory) towards Windows 10, my explorer of files closes alone, approximately every 53 seconds... To describe a little more my "breakdown" after my tries of this evening: it is the process " explorer Windows " that is reset doubt approximately the 50 seconds. So closes the explorer, the configuration panel, etc. Everything closes at the same time. The desk becomes black some milliseconds then re-appears.It occurs permanently, even if the explorer is not opened, the desk resets...As if something made the " end of spot "...What's to be done?
Is the A70 compatible with W10?
Mod: edited title to add system type and clarify problem
Go to Solution.
The A70 is not on the list of Lenovo Win 10 supported systems. Your Intel processor is several generations before official Win 10 starts.
There are ways to prevent Win 10 reminders and unwanted automatic downloads, Google for them.
I downloaded the upgrade as instructed and when it reached the 100% mark, everything stopped. The download took me 5 hours! (I don't have a very good ISP speed in my area). The problem is, where is the download now? I've searched the 'downloads' file and I cannot seem to find it. Maybe it has been placed in a separate file of its own. Could you please tell me what the name of the file might be and where I may be able to find it.

All 8.1 updates and patches are installed. All drivers are updated. Please help!
Moderator comment: Model added to subject for clarity.
OOPS -- saw you tried this already. ------------------------------------Have you tried obtaining the upgrade directly from Microsoft via their Win10 Media Creation tool? You will be able to download an entire .ISO file to burn a CD or create a bootable USB stick: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 This works better, sometimes, than the Windows upgrade pestering message. Good luck!----------------------------------------- How are you fixed for disk space? The upgrade needs qute a bit of extra room ~ 5 - 10 GB, at least, to store previous machine state.

Is it possible to upgrade a C875-15G to Win10? Currently it's not on the list of supported laptops on the Toshiba website, but Win10 compatibility check does not encounter any issues.
Did somebody tried to upgrade such a laptop already?
I tried to upgrade in 2014 but that didnt work.
Some problems with the taskbar and cpu tied up continuously.
I had the same problems with a dell running on w7. Recently I upgraded the last one again and it runs well now.
So I am planning to upgrade the C875-15G again tot W10 again shortely.
Are there any reports from successful installation on the C875-15G?

You were all so helpful in getting me through my last Win10 experience that I decided to give it another go
I just finished upgrading my kids' PC from Win7 to Win10, and since the upgrade the system has been hard-freezing -- no responsiveness from mouse or keyboard, screen frozen in place.
I'd heard that there may be issues with USB drivers (since the motherboard is fairly old), so I reinstalled the latest from Gigabyte earlier today, but no dice.
Any advice would as always be appreciated! Thanks in advance,

Downloaded Win10 to my Win 8.1 desktop. Received following error messages upon attempted install finish:
"The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation"
Have un-installed all security and all non-essential drivers and programs.
I've been hesitant to upgrade any of my PCs from 7 to 10, because it is not a clean install.
I want to be able to upgrade, but from a clean install, so that I have the ability to revert back to a windows 7 capture of my system if I find 10 to be unsavory.
Is there a way to register my hardware or obtain a windows 10 license key, via an upgrade without having to go through the process of having 10 installed on top of my 7 system?
I bought this in Nov, 2012, Win7 SP1. I would like to update to Win10, but I'm not sure the Broadcom WLAN driver will work in Win10. The adapter version is 5.60.350.6 (3/22/2010), BCMWL664.SYS. I don't want to update only to find I have no internet or network access.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Can-I-upgrade-h8-1230-from-Win7-to-Win10/td-p/5596437
Hi Guy's I have a Win laptop and a Win desktop I like a lot of what I've read about Win although not all But I was hoping that the laptop would be offered it first It's a refurb That I only recently bought My intention was to install slide shows of my art work and use it to show potential customers Anyway I was hoping to install Win on that and put it through it's paces That way I could decide before upgrading my main PC Unfotunately it hasn't worked out that way Yesterday Win downloaded to my desktop PC It said click here to upgrade I was panicing and got a tad twitchy But was pacified when but wants I now! upgrade to 'Win10' to it time need decide, it went on to say - Expect a second prep of your device - Review the licence agreement - Choose when to upgrade Phew it was number 'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now! that made me relax Remembering I'd read you can wait for almost a year before 'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now! making up your mind So I pressed the 'OK let's continue' button Did then now I'm faced with no problem I thought but hereby lies the rub Choose a date and time when you want to install the upgrade These are the choices I get HELP
Hi Graphicool1 I'm pretty sure you can just close the window and it'll wait until you launch the process manually to upgrade.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/586656/win10-i-need-time-to-decide-but-it-wants-to-upgrade-now/
Like in the topic. Please help; after upgrading to Win 10 there is no keys-backlight after using the FN + Z combination. in bios (after upgrading) everything is fine; so when I turn backlight ON or OFF backlight runs out, but there is problem with Toshiba Funcktion Key driver I think.
I did the reinstalation of this driver, have others toshiba drivers for Win 10 installed (Eco, system driver etc.). Toshiba Funckction key runs for several seconds after system bots up, and is blocked (?) by something after jus several seconds. Weird and very annoying. The fun is that combination for screen brightness (FN + F6 or F7) and for volume up/down (FN + 3 / 4) runs perfectly vell. Backlight
I think the problem is connected with Toshiba Funcktion Key program.
Please help ! Portege is the top class of Toshiba laptops.

I have a friend with WIN7 64 bit just like me. He received a message about upgrading to WIN10. He clicked on the X at the top right. It downloaded the update but he did not install it. It keeps asking about installing the upgrade.
What can he do to remove the WIN10 upgrade download?
What can we do to permanently remove any request to upgrade. Neither of us are computer gurus. We need a step by step simple procedure to stop any updates or requests for WIN10.
We have no desire for WIN10. Thanks, Bob.
The simplest way is to use a tool that automates the change of settings required to prevent the forced downgrade to Windows 10. Download the Never10 utility and it will disable the Win10 download. Extensive documentation and explanations are on its site.http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/396921-disabling-win10-upgrade-win7-64-bit.html

I'll take a stab at this one..
From my experience with HP they do drop support for some of the products and you get stuck with the last OS that was installed on it.,. for example I had a nice desktop and it only would support Win7. When I tried to run Win8 on it .. well it would work fine but when I went to shut it down for the night and restart it that's when it would fail. Seems HP will not provide the updates to support new OS's. And this also applies to other OEM's.
Now having said all of that here is one option you have. Make sure you can make a system backup and backup your personal data. When that's done make sure you can restore the system and you're comfortable with the process.
At this point you could perform a clean instillation of 10 and see what happens. IF it fails to work properly just restore your PC to the previous settings with the backup you made.
... yes.. complicated but that's the best advice I can offer at the moment
And welcome to the forums
Upgraded Edge 15 from Win8.1 to Win10 today. Everything was fine, then an installation file got stuck so I held power button for a forced shutdown. When I power up again, I get nothing, just a blank screen. (I didn't even see Lenovo logo) After another power cycles I saw a "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen, then it went away and I am still stuck at a blank screen, from the sound of hard drive it's not reading.I also tried booting to "Windows boot manager" and hard-drive, both got blank screen. Greetings, Win 7 upgrades to Win 10 can be problematic with no easy way back to Win 7 unless you have a good image and bootable rescue media. The safest way to upgrade is to clone your existing Win 7 install to a second HDD or SSD. Connect only the cloned HDD to your PC to do the upgrade. Carefully read this entire article by Ed Bott to learn what needs to be done, and the time invested, if you have to rebuild Windows 7. Win 10 may have the correct WLAN driver as well as all other drivers needed to run correctly or the upgrade could choke. You still have the original Win 7 install on the first HDD and can move on with your computing life. I upgraded to win10 from win7 and started having a problem so I reverted back to win7. The problems from the upgrade followed me back with the revert to win7. The problems have to do with files and folders. I cannot create a file (doc) and save it to my documents file folder. I get a message "you don't have permission to save to this location" contact administrator. Incidentally, I'm the only user of this computer and always have been. I also get a message when trying to open an existing file " document file is locked for editing by (me or unknown user)
I'm totally confused not knowing how to get by this "file locked for editing" and "administrator privilege" needed.
Please tell me how to get around this.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
