Toughbook 12V power adapter

Q: Toughbook 12V power adapter

I recently purchased a Del Latitude 7202 Toughbook.
At same time purchased 12V power adapter.
The adapter was shipped separately. SKU 469-4546. The power plug did not fit computer.
It is too fat. Spent 4 hours with tech support and they told me the wrong part was shipped.
They said they would send a replacement. 10 days later I get a package with an HDMI cable in it.
Call support back, was told they would just issue me a credit and I can purchase one online.
I was told I needed part. 450-AAYR. Web page for that part lists the 7202 as compatible.
It arrived yesterday. Still doesn't fit. I am returning it as well.
What is required to get the correct part?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The tips I got with this Kensington 33197 power adapter have numbers stenciled on them like N3, N5, N19, etc. The tips sold on their web site make no mention of the "N" numbers and have numbers like K20059, K20050, etc. and there is no cross reference.

You can also see a complete reference for "N" numbers to all the laptops they support at the above link. Again, no mention of the numbers Kensington uses on their site.

I need a cross reference for these kinds of numbers.

Kensington referred me to their telephone tech support; but, there is a language or cultural barrier that prevents their understanding what I need.

Does anyone know of such a reference?

My laptop will no longer turn on.  When the AC adapter is plugged in, the LED light is white indicating power is arriving at the laptop. However, nothing happens when I push the power button. Troubleshooting steps I have completed already include: Hard reset (several times including after each step below)Tried starting without the batteryRemoved all removable components and reseated themRemoved all removable components as well as bottom cover. Cleaned with compressed air. Put everything back.Nothing appears wrong and nothing happened between the last time it turned on and this time that I am aware of. The laptop is out of warranty, and I am pretty handy with computers. Is there anything that can be suggested short of a hardware replacement that would help get this resolved? TIA

A:Envy 15-j100 receives power from adapter but power button do...

@jthayne Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out  As I understand the computer receives power from adapter but power button does not work,Don't worry, please perform the below steps to resolve the issue: If the computer does not start, the LED lights do not glow, and the display is black, you can perform one or more of the following actions to resolve the no power issue:  1. Examine the adapter and power cord for physical damage2. Test the power from the AC wall outlet to the notebook connector3. Start computer using the battery only4. Check that the lid switch moves freely5. When you have completed the troubleshooting steps covered in this document, there should be power available to the computer. When you press the power button, the LEDs should glow, and you should hear the sounds of the fan and the hard drive spinning. * If the battery does not accept the charge or the notebook does not turn on without the AC adapter, contact HP to order a replacement battery. * If the LEDs do not glow, and there are no other indicators of power being available to the computer, contact HP for technical assistance in troubleshooting a potential problem with the AC power connection or the system board.* If the LEDs blink or the computer beeps, but it does not start, go to HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting LED Blink Codes or Beep Codes During Startup or Boot. * If the LEDs glow but the computer does not start on either battery or AC power, go to Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot. Eager to help, I hope you have a good day ahead, And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.Regards,

For the last two weeks every time I start my Dell INSPIRON E while using the power supply I am greeted with the following message quot The AC power adapter type cannot be determined Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge Please cannot Supply power - AC type be determined....." "The adapter Power connect a Dell W AC adapter or higher for best system operation quot I press the F Key and everything works fine I ve read about this on other websites and most say it s a design Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....." flaw in the power supply after the cord has been properly wound around the supply as designed Apparently a few of the cords internal wire strands Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....." become broken and cause this message My computer is from June and shouldn t be having this issue so early or ever This seems like a flaw that should have created some type of manufacturers recall since so many people are having this issue I m of course out of warranty will Dell replace this free of charge nbsp

A:Power Supply - "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined....."

You are correct, the failure is due toloss of the power supply ID signal. Sometimes this happens because of strain on the plug, which breaks the signal wire. Some even are so severe that the insulation breaks away from the plug; this is due to rough handling. The other cause is one or more of the power socket solder connections to the system board become broken. This also is related to severe handling. I have seen one case where all three power connections and three of four mechanical connections were disconnected. If the power supply is bad, a replacement will cure the problem. If not, then the socket is bad, and this will require a system board replacement. If you are experienced, you can try to resolder the connections. I am experienced and was not able to get my daughter's E6000 to work by resoldered. More recent Dells are using a replacable power connection board which is a much cheaper repair.

Good day, We have a CF28 PTJAZDM-B It was working fine when we bought it and has been in storage for several months. Now when I turn the power on the power light comes on; the MP light comes on (there are two on this unit one in a left pointing arrow and one in square) and the keyboard lights up.... and sometimes there is a crackling sound. The unit then issues a series of beeps. 1 beep; 3 beeps; 3 beeps; 1 beep I checked the service manual and this series of beeps doesn't appear. The screen remains dead and nothing else happens. Please can anyone help? Thanks Graham

Have you checked in device mngr to see if their is a little yellow triangle in your sound? If so try update driver. How to find device mngr. I use my computer start menu, right click then click manage. Then you'll see device mngr. clcik on it and check your sound devices . If you know how to use the snipping tool do a snip then use the paperclip icon on the post to attach a snip of your device mngr.

I have a Panasonic CF-19CDBAXVM Toughbook, I created a bootable ghost boot disk with an image on it and booted from the USB CD/DVD drive into ghost no problem but when I went to select the image it no longer sees the CD drive???? I can boot from ghost boot disk, I have also tried XP and it will boot from that as well but as soon as I go to find the CD drive it is not there?

It's a Intel Core Duo 1.6, 1.5GB RAM and 80GB SATA HD.

A:CF-19 Toughbook won't see CD/DVD drive

Try going into the controll panel, select systems, then hardware and Device manager. Is the drive listed there or have a yellow exclamation on it? If it does, right click on it select remove. then reboot your system and let windows reinstall it automatically. This should work. let us know if you have/or don't have success.

There is no mention in the specs that it actually has a mini PCI expansion slot.

I would suspect that the WLAN cound be integrated on-board in the Centrino chipset.

Or do you have some reason to think that's not the case?

A:Toughbook won't turn on sometimes

When you shut it off, do you close the lid?

If you do, next time don't and see =over a period of several days if it starts ok.

If it does, then a sticky micro-switch on the close-lid circuit is likely.

Can I use 45 Watt adapter for dell inspiron 15 5559?? I got the adapter along with the laptop when I bought it. But a warning is displayed on screen prompting me to use 65 Watt adapter... If so why 65 Watt adapter wasn't given with the laptop instead of 45 Watt?

A:Power adapter

Hi SUSMI,
The system is designed to support both 45W and 65W adapters - see the specifications here - http://dell.to/2fhPLIf
When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655D that needs a replacement ac power adapter, when I look it up it says I need:

or

Laptop AC Adapter: 19 Volts, 65 Watts, 3.42 Amps, 5.5mm x 2.5mm Connector

Someone gave me a new, in the box AC Adapter with USB port, made by Insignia.
The documentation says "converts 120v AC to 3-12v with 1300mA max output."

I recently bought a replacement power adapter for my dell e1505. The computer works but it won't charge the battery and tells me that since the computer does not recognize the charger, I need to reseat the power adapter... What does that mean?

A:Power Adapter

Hello aaronbaron,

Reseat the power adapter just means make sure the power adapter is plugged in good on the laptop and the wall outlet. I would try powering off the laptop, unplug the power cord, take the new battery out. Reinstall the new battery only and try to power on the computer. If that does not work plug in the power cord and power up with the new battery installed.

I bought a Dynex USB 2.0 4-Port Hub last week and have decided to add an external power supply to power the hub. The short and terse User Manual notes on the final page that a 5Volt / 2.5 Amp Power Adapter may be connected. I called their customer support number and talked to a lady, but her best advice was return to the store and ask there. My experience with this store over the years has been fat chance for this kind of request. Has anyone got a suggestion as to where I can purchase such a USB Power Adapter?

A:USB Hub Power Adapter

Radio Shack would be a good place to start although you might have to get one of their adjustable models. A Google search should also turn up something. Actually I just replaced my D-Link powered USB1 hub with a USB2 model. The old one is just sitting around and it has a 5V 2.4A adapter. If you want it so you can use the adapter just PM me and I'll send it to you.

I had the power cord replaced last year. But now I find the power box cord is not working. My battery died completely and even with the power cord plugged in, my laptop will not work. The box, even after replacing the power cord, still got extremely hot. Now I can't use my laptop at all! What do I do andhow much is it going to cost? Why is this not on a recall?

I am planning on making this project myself but first I have one question. Here is the project I will be making:
http://siliconrepublic.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/arduino-based-pc-ambient-lighting.html

It says I need a 12V DC supply for powering the breadboard. When searching up for 12V DC supplies, I only get power supply's that plug into the wrong wall socket (I live in Australia).
Do I need to get something like the article suggests:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-AC-Veh...1KZ6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1297231222&sr=8-2

Or can I get something such as this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-12V-1...?pt=AU_Laptop_Accessories&hash=item336678ae52
If the first option is the only possibility, how do I get the plug to go into my wall socket?
Also, how do I get the other end plugged into the breadboard when the product just has a single plug on the end?

A:What type of power adapter do I need?

You can use the Ebay adaptor, the easiest way to get 2 wires is to get a socket that fits the plug, like this one :- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-5-x-2-...05?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4167b5b34d and solder 2 wires to that socket.

The circuit at your link uses a 2 wire plug into the breadboard, you would have to get a similar plug OR you could push bare wires into the breadboard.

OR you could cut the plug off to reveal the 2 wires but they will probably be quite thin and may not connect well if pushed into the breadboard holes.

I have a Inspiron 15 3541 touch screen and "misplaced" my power cord and adapter. I'm using a Dell adapter from a different computer, but when I turned on my laptop, I get a message requiring a system or admin password even before it boots up. Is this because of the different adapter? How many pins did my adapter have? What problems does a different adapter create?

A:Power adapter pins

The password that is showing up before your computer boots sounds like there is a BIOS password set on the computer.  Unfortunately if you don't remember that password then you are probably stuck.  You can probably go online and search and see if there is a way to reset BIOS on the laptop and get it to default and remove the password that is set on it.  If there is a hard drive password though then the only way to remove that if you forgot it is to install a new hard drive as the password will follow the drive, not the computer.
Your power supply should have only 1 pin.  Dell used the same adapter for their computers for a while, they come in different wattage though and if you use an adapter that is too low then it may not be able to charge the battery while you use it or at all.  If the plug fits and it is a Dell charger you should be okay to at least get the computer up and running.  If it is a low wattage charger and the setting is set in BIOS (usually is by default) you'll get a message from your computer telling you that the charger isn't powerful enough to charge the battery while in use.

I have a w power adapter from an older notebook that will work with my nbsp HP DV - nr I transport my notebook between home and office I'd like to nbsp utilize the older power brick so that I won't need to transport a power brick back and forth The tips on both adapters of course are of a different diameter nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp My multi-tester identifies that the tip is hot for both adapters The problem I have is that the older power brick has two wires nbsp core wire and shield - and nbsp the nbsp newer power adapter has three wires shield that is connected to the nbsp core of tip black that is connected to outer part of cylindrical shaft that Power adapter? Wiring for must be the ground and nbsp white connected to inner part of cylindrical shaft also negative nbsp So do nbsp the black and white wires on the newer adapter need to be soldered nbsp to the shield on the older one nbsp nbsp nbsp

A:Wiring for Power adapter?

Just a guess, since it is 90watt, they may have run the extra wire to carry the load, shield is always much larger than center tip wire. Did you measure voltage and ploarity of all three connections with the brick plugged in? Tip is always + and ouside is always - on a HP, not sure what the third is, see if there is any voltage on it, It could also be some sort of sensor wire for the charging system on the mobo. Better to buy another adapter than smoke the motherboard on the lappy taking a chance. If you want to chance it just connect the two wires that are on the center and outside. Leave the 3rd odd one unconnected. probably can be found used for cheap.

I have an hp pavillion dv 6000 that I lost the power adapter to. My friend has an adapter for an hp pavillion dv9000 that he does not need anymore and he wants to sell it to me. I want to know if it will work with my computer. The adapter puts out 19volts 4.74 amps 90 wants max. The replacement adapters for my model (dv6000) list the power output as 18.5 volts 3.5 amps 65 watts.

Will an adapter that was higher voltage amps and wattage work for my laptop that requires less??? This is assuming that the connector is the same which I'm not sure of.

Can anybody answer the following questions about a laptop power adapter?

Is there a maximum length for the dc cord? In other words why do they locate the adapter 1/2 way down the cord instead of closer to the outlet.

Is the small cylinder around the cord about 3" before it enters the laptop some sort of choke/filter?

Thanks.

There is no particular reason for this, either side of the power supply could be lengthened or shortened.

I have a 20 pin motherboard but the power supply I have available has a 24 pin connector. I've read that you can simply plug them together by offsetting the 24 pin one but so far I don't see that working at all (and 'never the twain shall meet', so to speak). I've found adapters but they all say something akin to

'allows you to connect your existing 20 pin power supply to your new 24-pin compatible motherboard'

You can use it the other way around, correct?

thanks

A:20 to 24 pin power supply adapter

Some mainboard connectors are 20+4 pins where the 4 pins unsnap from the 20 pins for use with boards with a 20 pin connector. If your power supply doesn't have that feature you would use an adapter such as this.

This is a recent problem - a previous adapter broke and now subsequent adapters use 100% CPU and sloooow my laptop.

It's an hp 6720s 13 months old, XP Home, HP 65W power adapter.

Laptop running fine on battery only. Laptop runs fine when battery removed and power adapter is connected. Laptop does not run fine when battery and power adapter connected - 100% CPU.

Also, the charge indicator light no longer works and the power icon does not show that the battery is charging, although it is.

I've updated the BIOS, restored factory power settings and tested the power adapter during startup and have the same prob with the CPU usage.

What could cause the power adapter to use 100% CPU? Please let me know if you need more info, cheers.

Hi everyone.

I know that this is not really entirely related to a Windows 7 computer and especially to these forums, but I really need some advice on this and it would be great if anyone who has experience in voltage, amps and safety for laptop power adapters would be perfect.

My friend has just traveled down to my house for a week but has foolishly forgot his plug for the power socket on his power adapter. He uses this for his computer. Again unrelated becuase it is an Apple 45W MagSafe2 adapter.

So I was wondering if he could simply use a cord like this one below to plug into the adapter?
The black cord is 2.5A 250V~

The adapter is 100-240V~ 1A

These are both for input.

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

A:Power Adapter Problem

That white 'thing' appears to be for an Apple Macintosh MacBook/MacBook Pro [I have a MacBook Pro] and you might not be able use the black cord due to fit, the V-shaped notch in the black plug would have to let it be inserted. But it probably won't hurt to try as it's still a 110/120Volt source.

The MacBook power adapter also came with a piece that replaced that cord and has the prongs to plug directly into a wall socket/extension cord, maybe it's in his Notebook bag.

Though I had posted this previously, but cannot find it anywhere!

Got an Altec Lansing Multimedia Computer Speaker System ACS41. Apparently they were used on a Gateway 2000 PC.
However, the power adapter was lost.
The speakers do not have any electrical specs on them regarding voltage, amps, and polarity.

Anyone have a similar set of speakers, or,
know of any way this type of info can be found out, in order to get the right power adapter for them. Do not care to fry them with an overkill. The speakers probably came with PCs running Windows 98SE, or Windows Millennium.

Prefer not to go to Radio Shack, they normally are rather expensive, and the people who own this do not want to go that route.

Thanks for the help.

However on startup I receive an error message:
"Alert! You have attached an undersized 130W power adapter to you system, which is less than the recommended 180W power adapter" ... message carries on a bit.
Now the thing is both the TB15 power adapter and 7510 power adapter are the same (identical part number) and  are shown to be 180W output.

Sounds like the Centre pin has broken away and lodged itself in the plug. I cannot tell you which is positive and which is negative with regards to the rings on the plug. Because different Manufacturers use different combinations and with that different Voltages too. Generally speaking the outside piece is the male end and the receiving plug is the female -go figure-

The Yoga 3 Pro power adapter looks like a normal USB brick, and the cord looks like USB, except with a kink in the connector at the Yoga 3 Pro end. Can I charge my phone or tablet with it?

A:What's with the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter - it's a ...

Yes the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter is a USB charger too!

How does it work?

The special "fool proof" charging cord has two extra pins on the AC adapter end and two extra pins on the Yoga 3 Pro end. The extra pins only make a connection when the fool proof cord is plugged in to the Lenovo charger and the Yoga 3 Pro. When a regular USB cord is plugged into either the charger or the Yoga 3 Pro, it makes a regular USB connection.

Can I charge the Yoga 3 Pro with any USB charger?

No. The Yoga 3 Pro requires 2A at 20V, which is what the provided 40W Lenovo AC adapter supplies.

Can I charge a USB device with the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter?

Absolutely. In addition to 2A at 20, the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter supplies 2A at 5.2V (10.4W), enough to charge a phone or tablet. Works for iPad.

Where can I buy spare AC adapters and cords?

AC adapters with cords are sold in the accessories section of the Lenovo store.

Where do I find the part numbers for the AC adapter and cord?

Look for AC Adapters In the PDF Yoga 3 Pro Hardware Maintenance Manual.

What are the USB specs of the Yoga 3 charging port?

It's a USB 2.0 port. It provides enough power to charge an iPhone, but not enough to charge an iPad. If you want to charge an iPad, try the USB 3.0 port on the right of the Yoga 3 Pro.

The Yoga 3 Pro power cable connectors compared with a regular USB connector:

My neighbour was given a second-hand computer and asked for my help setting it up.

It is a Dell Optiplex 755 running Win7.

Currently installed graphics is NVidia Quadro FX 3500.

I looked up the service tag and this is not the original card (Original was ATI HD2400XT).

The issue I have is that the FX3500 is an 80W card, with the PCI-E slot having a max of 75W. On booting I get low power warnings from the NVidia card.

The card has a 6 pin PCI-E connection available for the additional power, but the PSU has no PCI-E power cable.

The only free power cables from the PSU are a couple of 15pin SATA cables. I have seen adapter cables for 15pin SATA to 6 pin PCI-E. Are these any good for my situation?

If not, what are the alternatives? New PSU? Different GFX card?

Hello,
I recently bought a used Panasonic Toughbook CF-73. I formatted and re-installed Windows XP. I am unable to find a few drivers, mainly the audio driver. I have tried updating through Microsoft/Windows Update to no avail. I have Everest installed and I am attaching the report. Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance!

A:Missing Panasonic Toughbook Hardware

On our toughbooks, we find everything we need on the Panasonic support site. Try starting with
http://www.panasonic.com/business/toughbook/fully-rugged-computers.asp
then keep searching on Panasonic support for the drivers you need. There is nothing that is missing from that site, unless something happened in the past three days.

panasonic toughbook cf-18 laptop , windows xp pro, version 2002 sp 2

i restored the machine to factory condition after having some windows issues using the 3 product recovery panasonic discs that came with the machine.
i cannot get the wireless to work or turn on . when i open the intel proset wireless program it states that wireless is turned off , when i select wireless on, i get an indication of....the intel PRO wireless network connection is still disabled.use your hardware switch to disable it.
i thought this machine did not have a hardware switch to turn on or off the wireless, if it does please tell me where it is physically located
if not can you talk me through turning wireless on using some sort of software.
i know the machine has wireless capability , as i have used i t before, thanks paul

If someone is still having issues with wireless not turning on as mentioned here : http://forums.techguy.org/networking/998859-panasonic-toughbook-wireless-issue.html

Do the following:

Go into BIOS > Advanced > and set the "Wireless Switch" option to DISABLED.

Also, if you need, you can uninstall the Panasonic Wireless Switch software after you have disabled the BIOS option as mentioned above.

This will fix the wireless not working or unable to turn on the wireless issues.

My brother has a Panasonic Toughbook CF-27 laptop. He put a BIOS password on it a long time ago. He now needs to get in the BIOS, but forgot the password. He's tried everything he could think of and nothing works. I know on PC's you can change some jumpter settings or take out the lithium ion battery to remove the password. Is there an easy way to get rid of the password on this laptop? I searched the Panasonic site, but didn't find anything helpfull. Will removing the motherboard battery on the laptop do the same? If so, doe anyone know where it's located? Is it easy to get to or deep down in the system?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Cory

A:Panasonic CF-27 Toughbook BIOS password...

It does just that it takes a bit longer.... I mean need to take the battery out for about 3 -4 days to drain it completly. Otherwise ( since i'm not quite famialiar with that particual model ) look inside the laptop for a "CLS CMOS" or something close to that , which will clear the BIOS and subsequently the password.
By the way what BIOS does the laptop has? Award , AMI , Phoenix....

I am using the adapter that came with laptop
anyone know how to fix

A:bios ac power adapter message

If new means less than 21 days from shipment, best would be to call Dell and have the system replaced under the 21-day satisfaction guarantee.
If it's more than 21 days since the system shipped, call Dell to start the warranty repair process.

A:B590 - Power adapter, Use in New Zealand?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

According to the specifications listed on page #8 of your model's User Guide, your power adapter is a dual voltage adapter that will handle a voltage input of 100 to 240 Volts AC.  Since New Zealand's power standard is 230 volts,  all you will need is the plug adapter for the wall socket and you are good to go.

I would like to buy an extra travel power adapter (US plugs) for my Cloudbook.  Does anyone know the part number for the adapter? Also, I would like to use an external battery to charge the Cloudbook while travelling.  The external battery has a regular USB 2.0 that's on most external battery chargers, and I would need a cord that goes to the power of the Cloudbook.  Does anyone know of a solution? Thank you.

Hi All, I am getting a very strange issue with my Lenovo SL 510. When i plug in charging while laptop is on it starts disconnecting power adapter every cople of seconds or some time is 5 second (no consistent behaviour).. i thought it could be my power adapter that is misbehaving. I removed battery and started laptop with ac adapter on. it worked fine no issues at all.  if i turn off laptop and put it under charging it get's fully charged and battery also lasts for couple of hours. so no issue in charging while laptop is turned off.. so that rules out possibility of issues with adapter. The issue is only with laptop  charging when it's turned on. it keeps disconnecting. it is really very annoying as get to hear beep sound Similar to hospital sound :-)

Hi there forum,

I just bagged an Lcd monitor for nowt but have no power supply for it.
The rear panel says 12V 3.0A DC power supply, but I can't find any of this type, I've tried Maplin, play.com etc and all they suggest is 300mA, now I thought 3.0 A was 3000mA?

Do I need to go back to electronic school basics?
Thanks

I have the nr I believe It's got the GTX m I am a tech with over yrs exp in building and overclocking I realized that the stock charger seems underpowered at least the one I received with this unit which I bought used like new on Amazon for I was somewhat let down initially upon testing the system for performance then I found it would double it's performance when on battery power This indicated to me that the unit was able to draw more current from the battery than when plugged in Having an understanding of power requirements and electronics I realized the unit may benefit from using a higher wattage power supply I bought this baby intending to run Project C A R S which is purportedly the most advanced racing sim ever made with awesome graphics blowing away upgrade Omen power adapter all current Xbox PS Omen power adapter upgrade etc platforms I found I could run it reasonably well on battery power with the system dialed in using Intel Extreme and PrecisionX for pushing the CPU amp GPU to their comfortable limits Also something I've learned over the years is it's generally best to use the true HP drivers for GPU manufacturers tend to custom tweak a given driver for their specififc model giving it the best performance even though the revision is never near the most current Now the big reveal nbsp I decided t take a chance and buy a used watt HP power supply for amazon then splice the cord so the power adapter would fit this model I went from not being able to charge while plugged in to charging while playing full power More importantly my framerates went from - fps plugged in to original watt adapter to - fps on battery to fps using this beast watt adapter I made The GPU goes from a locked right up to or more when plugged into the high powered adapter I have been using this setup for a week run many tests and really rocked this thing not one problem shutdown etc My final question is why WHY doesn't HP offer a higher powered adapter Isn't this supposedly a GAMING laptop
