I need to add another standard user. I have one admin account and one standard user.
After adding the second standard account name and password on Control Panel
I get the confirmation that the new user can now sign in.
However,I get this famous message that the profile service cannot open.
I looked into C:users and find
First standard user
But not the newly created user account. Nor can I find it in the Registry ProfileService.
Why does Window lye to me saying the new user account is available but it did not create it?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Did you sign out of your account and then try to sign in to the new one?
The new user folder won't be created until you sign in and set up the account.
User Account - Add a New User in Windows 8
Upgraded from Windows to Windows some months ago Original profile did not require password to log in and was not associated with a Google email or Microsoft account that I know of I added a user a couple of days ago added a personal account of mine with my own password from my laptop because software problem said try another user and this laptop computer didn't have any other users So I added one That was a mistake After I quot added a user quot I could ONLY log on the computer with the NEW user The old one the profile all the Added original User, user profile & / disappeared settings settings the playlists everything was gone Like it never existed There was and is no option to log on as the original The computer became an extension of my laptop with zero other option I had to add a third user and give it admin capabilities just to remove my laptop profile which I didn't really want on this computer I was just adding a user to quot try another user quot with a software problem But all my original settings seem gone I can see additional users in Windows Media Player for instance but it says I need permission to access those Since it is impossible to log on as any other user except this latest and third user I can't give myself permission to access those old playlists Adding a user should come with a warning If anyone has any ideas where I can recover the old settings I'd be grateful The threads I've seen around the web and here have directed to Windows workarounds which do not work for my machine
Hello and welcome to the TenForums
It might be worth finding out all the users that are associated with your PC. To do this open a command prompt (right click on the Start button) and then type in the following command wmic useraccount list full
This will display all users on your system (including hidden ones) and if you paste the results here we can determine which accounts are still present. If you want to see more details of this process look in the tutorial: User Account Details - View in Windows 10
Hi All this is my first post here...
So of course I am desperate and g00gle has not been my freind.
Rather than repost it all here, I'll link to original post (If that is not against the rules?)
operating systems - Windows 7 won't create Administrator account - Super User
So far the PPL at "superuser" havent come up with anything that isn't obvious.
I bet y'all can do better
I would do a backup of all data to an external drive.
use GSmartControl to ascertain SMART status of drive and to execute Long test.
Do a SFC /scannow
run "tweaking.com" to restore registry, services and filesystem permissions to default.
I am trying to create a new user profile in Vista to do this. However, when I try to log on I get the: "The User Profile service failed the log on. User Profile cannot be loaded" error message.
Having looked in the C:/Users/ folder, it does not appear to have actually created a profile.folder. Similarly, when I go to security permission settings, it does not appear. It also appears to be missing from the Registry. But when I log on to Windows, it does appear on the log on screen.
Is this issue solved or NOT?
As of today in our domain environment consisting of Windows and Windows Enterprise machines we are experiencing the quot User Profile service failed the sign-in - User profile cannot be loaded quot error message whenever a user tries to login This only affects users new to the particular machine If they have signed on before and already have Default service 8 User Profile loaded. be Profile Profile sign-in Win Environment Domain in Corrupt The failed User 7 the User Win cannot and - a cached account the computer logs them in with no issue This is occurring on both Win and Win machines We are an academic institution so this is becoming a huge problem in our labs Students generally use different computers so this is popping up very frequently I have a solution for the issue It appears that on the non-working machines that the quot Default quot user profile is corrupt I have discovered that if I find a machine Win or Win doesn't matter that is allowing first time users to logon I can copy the quot Default quot user profile and replace the corrupt one I must first permanently delete the corrupt profile before copying over the new one Corrupt Default User Profile in Domain Environment - The User Profile service failed the sign-in User Profile cannot be loaded. Win 8 and Win 7 I am doing this over the network by navigating the C users folder Even this way is becoming cumbersome though as we have over computer in labs I have googled and googled and I keep seeing the same answers offering various solutions none which are any more practical than my method I cannot find information on a cause or a reason of why this would just crop up out of nowhere I suspect maybe a Windows update but I cannot verify that yet If anyone can offer any advice share a possible patch it would be much appreciated Thanks nbsphttps://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/5a617fa3-ddbe-49a2-af23-e68fd6b015a3/corrupt-default-user-profile-in-domain-environment-the-user-profile-service-failed-the-signin?forum=w8itprogeneral
Hi I set up a lot of pc's and I've had this problem before with windows I set up a single user account with Microsoft account email and password Then I want the pc to never ask for password so I run userpasswords and uncheck so password is second windows 10 added sort of a account user never asked for and we go right to desktop windows 10 added a second user account sort of on startup I'm setting up laptops right now and works fine On the second laptop windows created a quasi-user in addition to the user account quasi has same name same email and it doesn't exist in control panels user It has a shorter version of the user name when I sign in i e name is Rancho and it auto displays ranch as the user name on log in screen so I know Windows did this somehow When I turn on laptop or restart instead of going straight to desktop it shows log in screen it says it cannot connect connection is wi-fi no other pc's have connect problem it says there is a problem and I have to sign in it has accounts in lower left corner both have the same account name and email if I click on the top it is the ms account it supplies the email and logs in with just a password If I click on the ranch account it puts ranch in the user name logs in with same password I'm guessing I have to add administrator account delete the messed up account and recreate it then delete trying to avoid that fun if possible and it didn't work on windows when this happened any ideas on how this silliness happens Is there a fix thanks tomhttp://www.tenforums.com/user-accounts-family-safety/46040-windows-10-added-second-user-account-sort.html
Please help me.
It started when I updated my graphics driver (AMD Radeon R6). Well it is not installed well, it turns into black screen with cursor. I repair my laptop using the windows repair. The one that pops-up when I turn off and on forcefully 3 times.
At first, I tried system restore, it says not completed. And then I do it again using reset but with files remain. So after resetting my PC I notice there is an additional user account named Administrator. When I open that account, I cannot do anything on it. Like Anything. Every time I open something like Microsoft Edge it says, "Microsoft Edge can't be open with the built-in administrator account. Please use another user account".
I want to remove that account, or else just hide. But I cannot and I don't know.
Please help, thanks!
Very much appreciated.

Set another readable up profile account have two standard user accounts -- User A that is a general user of the system whose data will be backed up And BackupUser that will be doing the backing up I want to set up permissions on the User A's profile folder C Users User A to be readable by BackupUser So I start a cmd as administrator and run the following icacls command icacls quot C Users User A quot t c l q grant DESKTOP- Set up user account profile to be readable by another user? AQNQQ BackupUser RX But it fails with errors of access denied to some folders OK So I downloaded PSEXEC and first run my cmd as SYSTEM hoping to prevent access denied errors PSEXEC -i -s -d CMD and then run the same command from it But it still gives me the same errors So as a result when I try to copy the C Users User A folder from a process running under BackupUser user account it fails with you guessed it quot access denied quot error So what am I doing wrong here PS I'm doing these tests on Windows Prohttp://www.tenforums.com/user-accounts-family-safety/61446-set-up-user-account-profile-readable-another-user.html

I tried copying the cmd.exe, using Fix It Program, login through Safe Mode but all didn't work.
Would anyone help pls?
Occasionally, Windows might not read your user profile correctly, such as if your antivirus software is scanning your computer while you try to log on.
Please try restarting your computer and logging on with your user account again.
If the issue still persists, please restart in safe mode to log on with the built-in administrator account:
1. Restart your computer and hit F8 multiples times until you see a menu-like screen, if you see the Windows splash screen then repeat this step
2. Highlight and hit enter on Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Try logging in there.
3. If you are able to login, once a command prompt pops up, type: net user administrator password /active:yes (you can specify whatever password you want for the administrator
4. If you get a message saying "The command completed successfully", then restart your computer by typing: shutdown -r
5. Boot up again pressing F8, but this time choose just Safe Mode.
6. You will be able to login as Administrator with the password you set in Step 3.
Then try the following methods:
Method 1: Fix these user account profile on these computer
Method 2: Log on to Windows and copy your data to a new account
Method 3: Delete the error SID and create a new profile

howdy all i'd much appreciate special re-create 7??? Windows of in How User Profile the object to any kind advice regarding this very small but not-easy-to-solve tech issue as follows well there is a number of similar objects of every User Profile of Win like Recent PrintHood NetHood SendTo etc - always living in 'C Users user name ' folder all these objects look like folders but with shortcut mark on their icons so those are neither the standard Windows folders nor the standard Windows shortcuts well it's like a folder with shortcut i e link function actually which always links to the same name full size folder located in another place of User Profile so now I'm keen interested on how to create back such How to re-create the special object in User Profile of Windows 7??? special object named 'Recent' that was first damaged by a not good cleaning software and then manually deleted by mistake Note of course i know that the full size folder connected to this special object has a default location as C Users user name AppData Roaming Microsoft Windows Recent and there is no any problem with this folder in my case it's alive and ok Note also I keep an understanding that it's not so difficult to repair my current User Profile by a creation of a new user profile and this special shell object will be likely created along with other default components of this new profile and then copy my curent profile files into the new profile and finally delete the old one well although i believe the technique of Note as pretty complicated for such small and not critical issue and hope that IT pros will kindly advise me a better way to solve this because i like the function of this particular shell object or maybe it's better say Windows shell link and wanna get it back i hope to hearing something soon thank you kind regards p s i happened to partly restore this object by copying the 'Recent' object from Default User Profile but in this case after copying this object becomes the full size Windows folder which comes out to be a full copy of its genuine alter ego C Users user name AppData Roaming Microsoft Windows Recent but only for the moment of its creation i e without self-updating only my recent items listed in genuine folder at the moment of creation of this new Recent folder are listed there plus along with all useless contents of this genuine folder as 'AutomaticDestinations' and 'CustomDestinations' system service folders and this is surely very inconvenient and absolutely not same as it was with my original 'Recent' object which was showing all recent items including all recent files amp folders with real time updaing of their list but without system service folders p p s btw does anybody know what's the official MS name for such object in-between folder and shortcut lnk p p p s please help i've posted the same question at MS TechNet yesterday How to re-create the special object in User Profile of Windows but there is no any comment yet
Actual your Recent folder should be named Recent Items instead.
For this Recent Items folder, you might see if the blue Note box at the top of the tutorial below may be able to help with this.

Tech-Spotters I have a tricky problem transfering user accounts between Windows Problem Transfer Windows Tricky XP Account/Profile User XP machines I have a friend who needs two employees to swap their computers This requires me to swap their user accounts between the machines Naturally I used Windows File amp Settings Transfer Wizard FAST I d tranfer the accounts then delete the old ones Well FAST overlayed the existing account on both machines Oops I think I figured out why Since both machines only had the one user account the default name was quot owner quot for Tricky Windows XP User Account/Profile Transfer Problem both So FAST just added to the existing quot owner Tricky Windows XP User Account/Profile Transfer Problem quot account rather than create a new one Thankfully I imaged both machines before trying it and restored them to their original state Now I m looking for a SEAMLESS method for swapping the user accounts on both machines I know I could just create new quot dummy quot accounts and copy the files and settings in it from the other machine manually but there s the chance I could mess it up I was just wondering if someone has a clever seamless method for doing this TIA -- Andy nbsp
You can't modify an existing account that way. When using "FAST", you need to create the account you need first, then the files/settings will be transferred to that.
Start over, don't creat any dummy accounts, create the accounts required (I assume they have different names?). RUn the "FAST" in the newly created accounts.

Recently I found that hacker keeps creating user account and login to my Windows 2003 server, I deleted it however it come back again very soon. At this moment I couldn't find and virus or trojan in my system, only I found that two log files "wmsetup.log" and "OEWABLog.txt" under C:\Windows recorded some unusual activities at exactly same time when the hacker got access right to the system.
Very appreciate to see any help for my problem.

Yesterday, I shut down my computer. A few hours later when trying to log back in, I get logged onto a blank profile, which I assume is a temporary profile.
Curiously the ProfileImagePath string under key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-21-842173820-3506557639-1618326103-1004 is pointing to C:\Users\Mike_2.Mike-PC instead of C:\Users\Mike_2, which I assume is a temporary/alternate profile. (which I didn't create)
This has happened before, but usually a few restarts fixed the problem, however, that doesn't seem to be working now.
My question is, is there a way to reassociate the profile with the correct user folder? Or do I have to transfer everything over to a clean profile?
Its not an association issue, the user profile is corrupt, and is replaced by a temporary one.
Best thing to do is create a new user account, and migrate to that.
I currently have 5 user accounts on my windows vista 32-bit computer and I needed to create a new account. So, I logged onto the administrator account and created a new user account. Then, I logged off the administrator account and tried to log onto the new account. However, I received the following message
The user profile service failed the log on.
User profile can not be loaded.
After receiving the message I restarted the computer and attempted to log onto the new account but I received the same message.
Please help me.
Thank you in advance.

I need help badly! While working with NeonFx in the "Malware, Trojan, Virus" Forums. The OTS.exe tool deleted key vista files. I am unable to boot up normally! I am writing this request for help after booting up in safe mode. All of my vista settings are either gone or serverely imparied! I need help restoring my vista settings, user profile, recovering files, drivers, applications, etc. I have attached NeonFx's last post describing how my machine got to this state. Someone please help ASAP!
When I login to windows (7, Ultimate x64) on most profiles (created a new one, affected, logged into my admin account, 1 of 2 user accounts, a clean one for lightweight surfing with no load time for all 3rd party s/w) and my monitor goes from extended (blank) (1920x1080) to ... looking like it has a FAT black border (on secondary monitor).
Also some issues with network adapter connecting and mounted volumes attaching (instead of being instantaneous they take minutes) event viewer doesn't mention anything significant... any ideas?
Interestingly, I can't open Intel's CPanel (desktop context > Graphics Properties) (gfxui.exe) on other profiles.. will get details
Sounds to me like something in one or more of the user profiles has gotten corrupted. you might have to delete one or more user accounts and then re create those accounts which should hopefully fix the corruption issue. I know u might not want to do that; but at this point i dont see any other choice to fix the problem.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/325836-user-profile-corruption-regissues-how-monitor-windows-user-login.html

Hello tytlyf, and welcome to Seven Forums.
Let's start to see if you disabled or deleted your "HybridPC" by using the tutorial below to get details about all accounts on your computer while you are logged in to your "Admin" account, then post back with them. Afterwards, we can go from there.

It is an HP computer that my brother brought over because it wouldn t boot It was giving me a quot bootmgr is compressed quot message So I got my Vista repair disc and uncompressed his drive That got rid of that message but then it was giving me winload exe errors So I fixed that and FINALLY it booted up but when I clicked on his user account to log on I get this error message I have searched for answers I came across a fix where you edit the registry if there is a duplicate entry in the profiles a loaded" profile cannot the service Getting message be logon. "user profile user failed section but there isn t an extra one I can boot into safe mode but I get no administrative tools no ability to see the event viewer or manage users idk if this is normal I did a command I found to make the default administrator account active or something like that and now when it boots up there is his user account Getting a "user profile service failed the logon. user profile cannot be loaded" message and an admin user If I click his user to log on I get the error message If I click the admin account it loads but it loads telling me the Vista copy is not genuine Anyone have any idea how to fix this Why is the admin account telling me Vista is not genuine Thank you

When I tried to log on to administrator account on vista laptop this morning I got the following error massage "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." I did some research and found a potential solution: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
However the problem is that the solution needs a working administrartor account and the only account I'm able to log in is a standard one with no power to change account type or boot into admin safe mode/ do a command prompt whatsoever.
Would anyone happen to have an alternative solution that doesn't require an admin account to fix this?
Was able to log on in safe mode and follow the registry edit procedure. Thanks anywayhttp://www.vistax64.com/crashes-debugging/281202-vista-user-profile-service-failed-logon-user-profile-cannot-loaded.html
Admin account worked fine on Monday. The kid used her (non-admin) account in the meantime. Now it won't log into the admin account - "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." I've read a few other boards on this issue, so I am now doing a thorough virus scan and will include results as soon as they're available. But I am not confident about moving forward with any of the paths I've seen laid out, and some of them don't apply if you can't access the admin account anyway, so I wanted to start a thread here (I've gotten fabulous help here several times before). It's running Vista Home Premium SP2. AVG 2013 Internet Security. Can't think what other specs may be relevant, but am happy to provide whatever would be of use. Thanks!!
I got the same message when attempting to login on Windows 7, after no previous problems or changes before shutdown the night before. It continued to loop back to the logon screen even after rebooting. I ended up having to log on in Safe Mode, then do a system restore to restore back to the last restore point, which was a system checkpoint a couple of days earlier. That fixed it, and I've had no problems since. I hope that helps.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/515804/user-profile-svc-failed-logon-user-profile-cant-be-loaded-on-admin-acct/

Personally, I would format/reinstall, simply because it seems that you're saying your current install is about 2 years old. No telling what kind of corruptions you have with the operating system.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/unable-to-create-new-user-profile-287290.html
i had a couple of backdoor trojans on my computer that ad-aware found and destroyed for me. there was one called win32.backdoor.bedienks that didn't go at first, even after ad-aware quarantined it. i removed it again and it seems to be gone now. however i'm left with a computer that can't run its own printer spooler or rpc server (that problem is posted on a different thread) and it has a new user account thats been created without my knowledge. its called itself 'ASP.NET Machine A...'s' . is it possible that this has been created by the virus/malware or it is perfectly normal for a computer to create its own user accounts?!?

I only have one user profile with admin priviledges. I can not login to it, I get the "user profile cannot be opened..." msg. I can boot into all Safe Modes. After reading some online support messages, I booted in safe mode and logged into "admin" profile and it says "loading default profile" and then logs me in. I then attempt to go to User Accounts and "Add a new User" to add a new user with Admin priviledges, but this option is Not Shown to me. If I try to click on "manage user accounts" it does nothing. It shows a microsoft "shield" on left side of this option. I know I can access my documents in safe mode still, but need to create a new user to move them to. HELP!
my advise to you would be backup your data (in safe mode) and reinstall, or try a repair install.. something in the registry is corrupt. have you used a registry cleaner/optimizer ??

Did you run accross this thread?
Hi guys, just the title of the thread pretty much says it all.
want to create a really limited user account for the kids of the house. I already have a user account, and have tried to set up a limited one through control panel. But that asks me to first create an Administer Account, which i already have. So it would be pointless if i had two Administer Accounts showing up on the welcome screen.
Also i'm kind of a novice at this, but i am keen to learn. so help with privacy and parental control would be appreciated.
log off your user account and login as administrator,to get admin acc. ctrl_alt_del do it twice, if the admin one is not seen then login create the user account and edit the permissions

You can try to fix with Safe Mode - repeatedly tap F8 as you boot up.It may take two or three tries to start the safe mode.Continue with Safe mode and user the Administrator login. Are you able to get into the computer with Safe mode as the Administrator? **** In this context administrator is the name of a hidden account used in safe mode. Normally you would not have to use this account. It can be used to repair or create user accounts.http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,158181.0.html
I have a very bad problem with my PC. It started yesterday and the vista system repair came up and scanned my computer. When it finished I clicked finish and my PC restarted then it did it again..and again...and again.
Then I went into safe mode and virus scanned everything but came up with nothing. So I restarted my PC and it said The user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. So I clicked ok then my user account came up somehow. I clicked it and it took me to desktop except that half of my programs were gone and like nothing worked, all my documents, downloads, pictures were all gone. I can't do anything on that computer, can anyone help please??(I have googled it but none of the solutions work so I want to find an answer specific to my problem)
Most likely it is loading a temporary profile.
First try a system restore to see if can recover the user profile.
If system restore fails to load while in windows or you get errors, try it from the recovery environment http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial142.html
Here is another solution to try if SR fails to work for you, it shows you how to create a new user account, then log into the new account and copy your old profile over to the new account. This article is for XP but the process is the same for Vista. See "Moving to a new user profile"
Im trying to create a new user account on my computer but every time i do that Im unable to login to that name Only the administrator account is accessible All new accounts createdwill give me this message quot The User Profile Service failed the logon User profile cannot be loaded quot This applies to the guest account as well If this helps when you go to C Users only the main account s folder and a folder called quot Public quot is present Im pretty sure it should have showed the folder of the newly created account Because of this im unable Profile logon. The the failed loaded cannot User profile be Service User to copy files from my main account to the new account as the folder for it does not exist This is frustrating as im trying to create an account for my brother with parental controls But we cant even access it without it saying that the user profile cannot be loaded How can I fix this I ve been following these instructions from Microsoft The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded com kb I went to the registry editor and went to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows NT CurrentVersion ProfileList It seems that there isn t even any folder associated with the new account I was only able to find a folder associated with the main account But none for the new accounts
Back to the beginning...what steps did you actually take...to create a new profile?

You'd need to ask your IT Adminstrator.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/351792-user-profile-service-failed-logon-user-profile-cannot-loaded.html
Hi, at windows start i get the message "The User Profile Service failed to logon. User profile cannot be loaded". There was no known activity last time system was up and running and it was shut down normal.
The desctop(HP) was delivered some years ago with V7 installed, ONE personal userID with admin auth. was created. Then a System repair disc was created.
What is the safest and simplest way(if any) to fix this problem and maintain the user data?(I did see support strings about this problem but they seem very complicated and confusing to me)
1. Shoud I restart system some functional key to get into safe mode or use the System repair disc and then what option?
2. Should I then logon to the default accountID(not known to me), and restore system to older backup point or shoud I try to repair the personal UserId?
Hej Stene, v?lkommen till Seven Forums .
See this tutorial for fix: User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
On my daughters W7 x86 PC the above message is happening when she tries to logon, the PC was set up with two users, I do noyt know if the other user can logon as she is away and we do not know the password.
What can I do to fix this error, all the fixes I can find require the user to logon, which is not happening.
Any ideas on how I can proceed.
Hello Daniel, and welcome to Seven Forums.
The tutorial below can help with fixing this error. The "In Preparation" section at the top will help to get logged into an administrator account to be able to do the rest of the tutorial. If you have any questions, then please feel free to ask.
User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
Hope this helps,
I've searched for about a week now and have not found a solution. I followed the suggestions about the corrupt Profile and the .BAK SID, but neither are my situation.
My SID is fine - I did manage to find a temporary fix. If I delete and recreate the user in Active Directory on the server it fixes the problem. The problem is, I have 300 computers and every morning there are at least 10 - 15 users I must do this to. Not an ideal solution.
We bypassed Vista, so we had no idea that this Microsoft bug existed until last week.
Hello ! Welcome to SF !
Check this article from Microsoft run the Fixit and see if that help Error message when you log on to a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7-based computer by using a temporary profile: "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"
Hey Guys so this happened to my laptop the other day and I have only got round to fixing it now, I tried a few options like editing the .bak files etc with no luck so I recovered what I could and just deleted the user profile an that seemed to of fixed the issue.
I was just wondering if their is anyway to delete the data off the old user user profile without having to format the hard drive. As its still taking up space on my hard drive even though the profile is deleted.
Many thanks in advance
Hello Damian, and welcome to Vista Forums.
Since you have already deleted the user account through the Control Panel, you should be able to just delete C:\Users\(user-name) folder for the old user account while logged in the new account.
Hope this helps,
I have a Dell laptop that has Windows Vista. Received the below message after I typed in my password for the adminstrator account
The User Profile Service failed the logon. User Profile cannot be loaded
I went into Safe Mode and was able to get to the desktop of the laptop. I attempted to go to administrative tools to try and add a new user account but I don't see an option for that.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the Microsoft support article for that.
Restart F8 brings up F2 Set Up or F12 Boot Menu. Can't find advanced boot options to start in safe mode.

Anyway I work in a small local computer repair shop and recently we had LOADS of Vista and Windows 7 machines with the error
"The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"
We can repair the fault changing the profile from temporary profile path and swapped the .bak extension in registry.
But what the hell is causing it? We have had two machine back in within two weeks of initial repair. We figured windows update at first but its not a given.
Have you read this Microsoft Support article?
There are similar articles for Vista and XP.

lately when i try to turn on the Guest user ( its my first time to turn on it)
then when i try to log on using guest i encounter a error message?
the user profile service failed to logon user profile cannot be loaded , i already try to make another user but the message or error is still appearing ,
but my main user is working im just worried about this and i already try some solution here but its not working
im using Windows 7 , thank you in advance !
You might see if the tutorial below may be able to help fix this for you. User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
If not, then I'd recommend to turn off the Guest account, delete any 501 key below found for the C:\Users\Guest account at the same registry location in the tutorial above, delete the C:\Users\Guest folder, and restart the computer. This will give you a fresh start with the Guest account as if you never turned it on.
Hope this helps,

Today, Dec.20th, I wanted to create a standard user account for testing.
I named it Test.
When I tried to log on to Test account, I received the above message.
I used the tutorial compiled by Shawn but failed :
The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. - Vista Forums
1. I don't remember when was the last time I successfully created a new user account. Therefore, not knowing which is the good restore point for this matter.
2. The tutorial mentioned SID key with .bak at the end.
There are 3 SID keys, but none has .bak at the end.
3. name of ProfileImagePath is as follow ...........
a.1001 belongs to t-4-2
b. 500 belongs to Administrator
c. 501 belongs to Guest
I don't see the SID key for the Test account.
Therefore, I am stuck. not knowing how to proceed.
see screenshot :
P.S. Guest account was NEVER activated.
The SID key for the user profile will not be created until the first time a newly created user account is logged on to.
You might see if this part of the tutorial may be the issue you are having.

I would like to verify whether the issue only occurs on special Windows 7 computer or on all Windows 7 computers.
I suggest checking the permission of the user profile folders and Default folder. Make sure the users has full control of their profile folders.
Meanwhile, ensure the users are the owner of the C:\Users\theirname\NTUSER.dat. Also, please put NTUSER.dat in the security software exclusion
list for testing.
Please also post in Server Forum to get more assistance.

I had the following error:
The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
I googled how to fix it. I now can't get to my photos from my other user account. How can I get to them so I can burn them on a DVD and clear up some of my hard drive? I can still see they are there in my Picasa program just can't get to them on desktop now.
Use an admin account, go to the account's picture folder you had before, and answer yes if it asks if it should modify security. ( haven't done this in a while so I can't remember the exact wording )

I'm working with Windows 2000 Pro. My problem is I'm not able to copy an unknown user account to an existing user profile (both local accounts). As I'm under the user profiles tab, there's a list of the current user profiles on the computer: Unknown Account and my existing account. The unknown account contains all of the documents and programs that I want to access. When I click on the unknown account, the "copy to" button is disabled.
I want to permanently access the unknown account under my existing user profile. Any kind of help is greatly appreciated!
After having the whole family using one user account [Windows XP Home], I have set up a new account for each of my kids to keep our documents/media separate. When I set up one of my sons games, which was originally loaded on what is now the administrator profile, for him to access from his account, all of his "progress" (ie a series of time consuming completed battles) in the game is lost.
Is there a way to transfer that information to the new account? I have Microsoft article 811151 on copying profiles, but I don't really want to fully copy my profile data, just that small bit of information, almost everything else will be different.
Thanks for any help on this.
you need to copy the saved game files over to his account and grant him permission to those files.

Using the web, how do I see the public profile of a user who has a Microsoft account live.it or outlook.com or outook.it?
When I open user profile accounts under control panel, it only shows 6 accounts. When I open user profiles under My computer/system properties/advanced, it shows 7 profiles, one called account unknown. Interestingly the memory used (gigabytes) is exactly the same as one of the known user profiles. Is this normal?Moderaters, if this is in the wrong forum please move it to the correct one. Thanks, Fried OkraI'm using Microsoft Windows XP Home edition Version 2002 Service pak 1. Everytime I've tried to upgrade to service pak2 I've had (more) problems with my computer.EDIT: Moved to more appropriate forum and merged posts ~ stevealmighty
This is normal, the "unknown" account is a user account that was on your machine at one time that was deleted (from user profiles in the control panel). You can simply delete the "unknown" account from My computer/system properties/advanced and regain the space it is taking up on your HD.
Hi I'm still new with Windows I downloaded the quot Absolute uninstaller quot in Profile! Account Help! Error User here in the forum got Error in User Account Profile! The MS C++ will no doubt be used by other applications requiring those runtime files so deleting them was a bad idea
As for your Antivirus, try re-installing it to see if it'll allow uninstallation from the Windows 'Remove Program' option in Control Panel.
By 'User Profile' what are you referring to? Every computer has/needs a user profile to function. Is it a new user created?

Restart the machine in the "Safe mode"
Use the "Administrator" account and password if you set one up. If you did NOT set up a password, then just use the "enter" key when in the password box.
Once up and running in the safe mode, you should be able to make a new account of the admin group.
Good evening from Graz,
i have quite a strange problem on my personal pc since the last few days. I cannot login to my useraccount(which has a transparent picture at the logon screen since a few days).
I have just one workarround: if i login with my adminaccount and logoff, the userpicture of my privateaccount appears again and the login is possible.
What could this problem be related to?
solved it. Disabled the admin account, and removed the pw of my useraccount.
Kind a strange problem indeed, but seems to be solved.
I can't turn on guest account or even the built in admin account i tried making new accounts but still won't work. when ever i try to lo in it says " the user service service failed to log in profile cannot be loaded" . i am usiny my own profile which is administrator it's the only profile i have used and am able to use.
I tried changing things through the regedit doing all three options that Microsoft recommends but they don't apply because when i create a new account it doesn't make a folder in the profile list.
can anyone help ? I've tried everything
I have a Sony vaio running windows 7 ultimate x64
Welcome to Seven Forums
I`m sure you`re doing it correctly but.......
User Account - Create
My Office suite has had a bit of a fit, and the fix I've found involves creating a new user account, then exporting that account's registry.
The kicker is that when I create a new user account, nothing happens. The profile shows up, as does the picture, but no directory is created in the Users folder, nor in the registry.
So, it shows up, but doesn't actually exist, and when I try and sign on to this new account, it says "The user profile service failed the log in. The user account can not be loaded."
Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance,

Hi, I'm not a new user but....I am unable to create a new user account. I've tried the cmd run as administrator, i've tried starting is safe mode. It says I'm the administrator but I don't have administrator rights, the error message i get when trying to create a new user account is
"The specified account name is not valid, because account names cannot contain the following characters:`~?,*+-=.
Please type a different name. " Help?/??/
last time I saw this it turned out to be the norton security suite preventing access.
...you wouldn't happen to have the norton security suite would you?
if not I would suppose just about any security software could result in a similar problem.
You could also have disabled fast user switching at some point which can affect new account creation.
I am running active directory accounts on my network so i can have the same the same user accounts on my domain but when i create a new user i get an error saying There is not enough space on disk. How can i solve this problem?
I have never seen such a thing.
Is your Domain Controller out of disk space?
I have an HP account than one user create more cannot Envy X running Windows not RT When setting up the device I created a user account for me which works fine But I cannot create any other user accounts When I quot Add a user quot the account appears to have been created and the username shows up as an option for logging in on the Start screen But I cannot log in I get the dreaded quot The User Profile Service failed to sign in quot None of the posted solutions to this problem works because there is no trace of the account in the system registry and no c users lt username gt folder has been created I have tried deleting and recreating accounts several times with different user names but nothing seems to work I tried refreshing the tablet to its quot just bought quot state and started all cannot create more than one user account over again but that didn't work either Is there some system setting I'm missing This is not RT it is regular Windows My husband and I share the tablet so this is a deal breaker if we cannot have multiple accounts
Hello motown, and welcome to Eight Forums.
How long have you had the HP Envy X2?
If not long, then you might consider taking it back for an exchange since even doing a factory recovery doesn't help.
I have Vista on Dell Inspiron laptop. When I go to Control Panel and attempt to create a new account by clicking on Add or Remove account, nothing happens. The link does not open. I am the administrator on this computer.
When you click on the "Add or remove user accounts" link, UAC should prompt you for permission to continue. That would be the first thing that you would see.
Is the permission dialog box hiding behind something? It doesn't show up on your taskbar, but your screen should dim and it should be on top, unless you've somehow managed to bring something else around.
Is UAC on or off? Control Panel->Security click on Security Center look to the bottom for "Other security settings," click on the down arrow to show the status of UAC.
Has Windows been activated? Winkey+Pause look to the bottom of the System panel to see the Windows activation status.
I have an Admin User account on windows 7. For example, C:\Users\myname\Documents. "myname" being the admin user name. I can access all of my documents here. However when I go directly to C:\Users, I only get one
folder called "Public" (for example C:\Users\Public). Then there is another file called "myname". The Type next to "myname" just says "file". It has no size either.
I just purchased a Seagate Personal Cloud. In order to connect the Personal Cloud to my computer I need to have a User account. I am afraid to create a new one and possibly delete all my existing documents.
Any advice on how to fix the issue?

Great find Flav! While I didn't resolve or have the exact issue 'Brooks-bilson's had, one of the comments on this blog entry (http://www.brooks-bilson.com/blogs/rob/index.cfm/2009/1/5/Fix-for-Vistas-The-User-Profile-Service-service-failed-the-logon-User-profile-cannot-be-loaded#c42AB7AE6-0B26-9AF4-6DB3C7B226C688B4) did have a comment that worked.First I renamed the file "\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\SqmApi\SqmData720896_00.sqm" to \Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\SqmApi\SqmData720896_00.sqm.bakInterestingly, this failed (bolded to help skimming folks). However, actually moving the file out of the directory (effectively deleting it) did work. This file was definately related to the problem, but exactly why W7 wasn't able to copy this (such as insufficient permissions or too long name error) is still unresolved.A little bit of information about the process Vista (and presumedly W7) goes through is well laid out in the referenced blog, and I recommend it for education.Unless it pops up again, I'm considering this issue closed and won't be monitoring it. I hope everyone dealing with this W7 issue finds this helpful. Thanks again, Flav, for the find.D

Hi everyone I got a new HP Pavilion laptop with Windows Home Premium -bit When I booted it up for the first time there was already an administrator account on it named after the company who sent me the laptop I renamed the user account and the computer to my name old but paths profile user name and account Changed keep name Unfortunately this change was not taken over by my profile folder or the profile folder paths For example if I go to the C drive and to quot Users quot then there's the Public folder and underneath it is my profile folder which has a lock icon - stuck with the previous name I can access it and see the picture music desktop etc folders Changed user account name but profile and paths keep old name with my stuff in them I wanted to save a Word Document and the username in the path was the old one so that's how I first noticed the issue I searched and asked around and found out that I'd have to create a new user account and delete the old one to fix this issue I came across two sets of instructions I found one set over here in this Microsoft document for Windows - it is about replacing a corrupted user profile and it says that one would need THREE user accounts to do it Very confusing obviously my user profile is not corrupt but it looks like I have to replace it Fix a corrupted user profile The second set of instructions I came across simply said that I'd have to do the following rename my current account back to the old unwanted name create a new administrator account with my name and log into it copy documents music pictures etc to the new account how does one do this and does this include hidden folders like the AppData folder Delete the old account I am not sure if these instructions are for Windows XP only or if they can be applied to Windows as well Can you please help me fix this issue I'm not a computer geek I cannot edit the registry I am a Windows newbie and I don't know which instructions to follow I have already installed some new programs on the laptop - Microsoft Office Firefox Thunderbird I have no idea whether and how creating a new user account and deleting the old one will affect them cause problems Thanks in advance for your time and patience -

When I booted it up for the first time, there was already an administrator account on it named after the company who sent me the laptop. I renamed the user account and the computer to my name. Unfortunately, this change was not taken over by my profile folder or the profile folder paths. For example, if I go to the C drive and to "Users", then there's the Public folder and underneath it is my profile folder (which has a lock icon) - stuck with the previous name. I can access it and see the picture, music, desktop etc. folders with my stuff in them. I wanted to save a Word Document, and the username in the path was the old one, so that's how I first noticed the issue.
I searched and asked around and found out that I'd have to create a new user account and delete the old one to fix this issue. I came across two sets of instructions. I found one set over here in this Microsoft document for Windows 7 - it is about replacing a corrupted user profile, and it says that one would need THREE user accounts to do it...Very confusing...obviously, my user profile is not corrupt, but it looks like I have to replace it:
Fix a corrupted user profile
The second set of instructions I came across simply said that I'd have to do the following:
1) rename my current account back to the old unwanted name
2) create a new administrator account with my name and log into it
3) copy documents, music, pictures etc. to the new account (how does one do this, and does this include hidden folders like the AppData folder?)
4) Delete the old account
I am not sure if these instructions are for Windows XP only or if they can be applied to Windows 7 as well.
Can you please help me fix this issue? I'm not a computer geek, I cannot edit the registry, I am a Windows 7 newbie and I don't know which instructions to follow.
I have already installed some new programs on the laptop - Microsoft Office 2010, Firefox, Thunderbird; I have no idea whether and how creating a new user account and deleting the old one will affect them/cause problems...
Thanks in advance for your time and patience :-)
The instructions above are correct, but instead of manually copying all the files, the easier way is to use Windows Easy Transfer (free download from Microsoft) and when going through its process, treat the old account as the "old computer" and the new account as the "new computer." Everything will be transferred to the new account (EVERYTHING), and then you can delete the old account.
This is one of those times where a new user will just have to suck it up and learn some new stuff. There's no simple fix to what you need to accomplish.
I attempted to form a new account user on Windows bit HP However when I went to logon with that account I got the quot User profile service failed logon User profile can't be loaded quot Did a little Google searching and came up with the registry correction approach See below Everything was going fine until I got to the Profilelist as none of the five S- files had a quot bak quot These five files were all the same except for their last - Profile New account user not logon - can't loaded numbers thus I could not figure which ones needed renaming so I didn't make any changes Here is some more detail on these files from the right side of the pane computer name ValuedCustom-PC main account user name Valued Customer Guest user account which works but i need to setup a new user account - Default value not set ProfileImagePath - C Users New user account can't logon - Profile not loaded Valued Customer Runlogonscript RefCount - State - and New user account can't logon - Profile not loaded that was all that was for this file - Default value not set ProfileImagePath - C Users Test ValuedCustom-PC RefCount - State - - Default value not set ProfileImagePath - C Users Updatususer RefCount - State - - Default value not set ProfileImagePath - C Users TEMP ValuedCustom-PC No RefCount or State was showing - Default value not set ProfileImagePath - C Users Guest RefCount - State - https www youtube com watch v vEyxD ZG-jI there are many other tutorials with the same approach
Hey there, still this problem going on?
Did you try to access a share on the laptop with your camera? If it works, then concentrate on a share on the desktop.
I really changed the default location of all my Existing, newly, public user account's profile folder to another new location.
However, there is a default user account's profile folder is still in the default location '%SystemDrive%\Users\Default'
*This user account is for what?
Besides, the most strange is that the modified date of this folder as the screenshot below shows is very old, although I have installed the windows very recently in 5/01/2013.
Also, all the files and folders inside main folder 'default' are dated as '17/03/2009' as the screenshot below. However, the one highlighted is dated recently.
Even my laptop wasn't purchased at this date '17/03/2009'; however it was purchased in about 2011.
Finally, is it recommend to change the default location of this user account to another locations then I delete this and all its content?
This is a last resort user profile if any other profile will fail to load.
Do not worry about it. Moreover, it is better not to touch it.
In case of any hardware or software failures with your newly, public user account profiles that Default profile will help you at least to login into your computer. The date is off because it was copied from the one when that particular version of Windows was created.
Recommendation: keep it and DO NOT change it's location.

Take a look at "Windows Easy Transfer", built-in to Windows 7.

Hello Blade, and welcome to Seven Forums.
Double check using the tutorial below to see if it may be able to help you sort this error.
User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
we had a windows server 2008 Domain network.
now we have deployed a brand new windows server 2012 R2 forest.
so we must disjoin client computers from previous domain and join them to this new domain.
when users of this new domain login to their computers, new profile folder is created for them (e.g. c:\users\u1.newdomain.lab, but this folder definitely doesn't contain their previous profile folder contents (desktop, documents, App data....)
what is the best solution to migrate user profiles from each previous user to related new user without any problem ?
i tried copying the entire profile folder of each user & replace it on the profile folder new user, but some problem arises, when this new user tries to login using this replaced profile folder.
i am not sure is it right forum to ask user profile related question?
thanks in advanced
I can create new user accounts from Windows Settings, see image.
But a review of regedit shows that no profile has been created for any of these new accounts, only for my original administrator account. See image.
When I try to sign as as any other user, I get the message saying The User Profile Service Failed the logon.
Using Windows 10 64 bit.
My brother uses my computer. But I don't trust him on it because he always messes it up so I'm trying to make him his own account. And all I want him to be able to do on it is check his email. Because that's all he really needs. But whenever those ads come up, "shoot ten ducks and win a free iPad"
He clicks them and downloads whatever it asks.
Can I get rid of the ads all together so he can't even see them? Or is restricting downloads sufficient
Suppressing ads is possible with an add-on, but it's also easy to disable any add-on with just a couple of mouse-clicks. But you may want to give it a try. One of the best is an add-on called "Adblock Plus" if you use Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...k-plus/?src=sshttp://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/trying-to-create-a-barebones-user-account-can-i-do-this-664481.html
The problem I'm having with creating an account is stupid and needs to be fixed. When I am making a new User Account, It asks for the name. So I type in a name for my account and click next or whatever. But it wont let me move on because it says I'm supposily using characters like ( *,^,%,$,#,@,!,&,=,+,-,_) When I'm not. I just want my username to simply be 'Eric Alexsander' -_-

Windows doesn't provide this ability but perhaps there's another way Let me explain the situation I'm currently configuring a new PC with Windows Home Premium for my father to replace his old XP one He is a simple user using a limited selection of software and never installing anything However when his children and grandchildren visit they often install games and software for their own use He's okay with that but he doesn't like when the result is a change in the computer's behaviour such as changed for account user who itself? install Any a way to only create can association extra bars on the Any way to create a user account who can install only for itself? screen a multitude of icons on his desktop I will try using two accounts and human engineering i e telling everyone not to install anything on his Any way to create a user account who can install only for itself? account He will have a standard user account and a quot family quot account will be administrator Problem is this is totally open to abuse because an administrator account can install anything on any account change account permissions etc This is a problem if people don't make an effort to behave So my question is is there a way via additional software is okay to enforce this division One way would be to disallow any installations on my father's account Another better would be to allow the family account to install stuff but not have that affect anything else Any ideas how to achieve this Thanks
If the children's stuff doesn't have to be permanent, I'd suggest creating an account for them and using something like Returnil to Roll Back everything they changed after they go home.
I think there are a few utilities that use shadow services to roll back the machine to the saved state. Maybe check on Gizomo's and a few other freeware sites.
I'm back. And now I don't find the message I thought I sent 8 hours ago.
Which said roughly that I'm not finding my tries at making a user account without there being the conflict between 2 instances of Webroot's firewall, etc..
Should be asking in another place, but I can't find that place.
How do I determine what each acct. is made of, what pgms what files?
I see something about "Profiles", but the help files here tell me all about what profiles do, but not how to determine the profile's character.
It's late. Sorry to bother anyone about this.
I would recommend that you only have one firewall program, same with a antivirus program, installed. Having more than one of each of these types will usually cause conflict problems like you are having. Uninstall the extra one to see if that helps.
Hope this helps,
Whenever I try to create a limited User Account I type in a name for it, but that's all I'm able to do. When I go to the next step I am unable to create a limited User Account because under "Pick an Account Type" the "limited" option is greyed-out, leaving "Computer Administrator" as my only choice.
I already have three accounts: (1) my Computer Administrator account; and (2) Guest Account (which is turned on); and (3) ASP.NET Machine (which is both limited and password-protected).
My OS is Win XP Pro, SP2.
Can someone please tell me what I must do in order to create a limited User Account?
You probably will get the option after you have first created one administrator account.

i m sending this out from my iphone so please excuse the format and lack of capital letters - i got a new hp pavilion laptop os is windows home premium -bit when i booted it up the first time there was have user paths old profile Renamed and still account, but Solved: name already an Solved: Renamed user account, but profile and paths still have old name administrator account on it bearing the name of the company who had sent me the laptop i renamed the user account and the computer to my name but the paths connected to the user profile and the user profile itself under quot users quot on the c drive still have the old name i did some reading and it seems that one has to rename the account back to the old name then create a new administrator account with the name one wants and transfer the profile from the old account to the new one then delete the old account if everything is working well however i believe that these instructions are rather for windows xp than for windows and i have no idea how to copy a profile i am not a computer geek and cannot fiddle around with the registry and i m new to windows so how can i rename the profile paths and my profile folder to MY name - or is it impossible to change and will i just have to live with it i also hope that if the situation cannot be changed then this is simply a cosmetic bug and won t cause any problems thanks in advance for your time and patience nbsp
I was told to never use the Guest user account as it was not safe to use. I was told that I should open up another standard account without a password.
What have you learned and how good do you feel about the source of this info?
Hello rfharbin, and welcome to Eight Forums.
Actually a standard account has more rights than a guest account, so creating a standard account that's not password protected is a lot more unsecure.
If you want someone to have temporary access to your computer, you can turn on the guest account. People using the guest account can't install software or hardware, change settings, or create a password unlike they could in a standard account.

Instead, I would recommend to either create a standard account with a password, or turn off the guest account when it's no longer needed say after your house guest leaves.
Hope this helps some,
