Recent Windows 8 App Store updates failing to update

Q: Recent Windows 8 App Store updates failing to update

My Windows 8 Pro Store lists 4 available App updates: music, video, games and mail. When I select STORE and chose to update, the apps attempt to download and install the updates. They have failed to update for 4 days now. The error codes are either 0x80070002 OR 0x80246007.

I have previously downloaded and followed the instructions for apps.diagcab, rebooted. Nothing seems to resolve my inability to update these recently released App updates.

I have not installed any new software. My other Apps, including Bing, News and Finance continue to list current updates without any exceptions.

Whenever I attempt to open music, games, video and mail, they fail to open and revert back to START.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is Microsoft aware of this issue and attempting to resolve it? Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Recent Windows 8 App Store updates failing to update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello ABsfone, and welcome to Eight Forums.

See if clearing the Store cache may be able to help.

Windows Update is showing that I need two "Important" updates. These are KB2656356 and KB2656351. No other updates are shown. Usually "Important" updates such as these are already check by windows update but these show up as unchecked updates. This is a little confusing. Does anyone know why these are not checked?
Windows 7 64bit Pro.

A:Recent updates are unchecked in Windows Update. Why?

Those updates seem to be problematic on some machines. They may have tried to install and failed.

Try checking them and updating and see if they work. If they fail, look here:

My Win 7 Ultimate Windows Update KB2656356 continues to fail - Microsoft Answers

I had to manually install those on my work machine but not on my home machines. I didn't have to do anything too fancy, just DLed the stand alone installer and installed it fine.

If it's still under warranty I'd sure try to get this resolved by using the warranty. Here's some of the information I found by searching for your error messages.

Hello

Frustrated with trying to fix this myself and thought I would turn to the forum for some help. I have been unable to install KB 2929437, KB 2871997, or KB 2830477 either as a group or individually. The error codes are all different and are below:

KB 2929437: error 8007054F
KB 2871997: error 80070490
KB 2830477: error 80070BC9

Since this started, Windows Update was able to install several other updates but not these three for some reason. I have run the System Update Readiness Tool and the SFC scan without change in the errors. The SFC scan continues to show corrupt files but is unable to fix them.

Problem #2 - I also appear to be unable to upload the zipped CBS log and continue to get internal server errors from the website when I try to attach the file. I would be happy to do so if anyone knows a way around this.

Thanks in advance!

A:slow downloads from windows update and app store updates

Hi,
I am having the same problem. I went to download some apps and hit the update button on the existing apps. That was 3 hours ago and nothing has changed. All the apps still say downloading.....

Any idea why they are not downloading? I have a fairly quick download speed. Hour long episodes download in around 10 minutes.

Hello all,

I installed the Anniversary Windows 10 update from scratch on my Surface Book. After installing all the Surface Book drivers, I ran Windows Update and it downloaded and wanted to install more device drivers.

Most of those drivers failed to install and it won't let me re-install them.

Can anyone please tell me why this is happening?

Hi

After your great help with my last problem i'm back with another (the price of success!)

Windows 7 ultimate - some updates are installing OK, some are being repeated after a successful installation & the IE10 update repeatedly fails with error code 9C59.

I've tried MS Fixit. I've done a repair install of Win7 ultimate, which improved things a little (before that, updates KB2667402 & KB982018 would continually fail).

CBS.zip & windowsupdate.log are attached.

Here's some background which may be relevant:
I started with Win 7 pro, which turned out to be non-genuine (ebay!). Windows updates stopped working because it was non-genuine. Microsoft supplied a new copy of Win7 ultimate, which I installed via a custom installation. I didn't do a clean install because I used a 3rd party product call PCmover to include all applications & settings in the upgrade to Win7 ultimate. All has been OK with Win7 ultimate except the updates.

THanks

Hi,
My AVG Internet Security suite popped up 2 alerts during the last batch of W7 updates today :-
One said that Window Malicious software removal tool needed access to the internet,
and there was another similar AVG alert during those W7 updates that I've now forgotten,
Any idea if this is this just a change in the behaviour of AVG, or is Washington and MS planting stuff in my PC that I should have refused ?
Trusting old me said "yes" and "allow" to everything !!!
regards, Richard

A:AVG alerts during recent Windows Updates ?

AVG lost favor amongst techies years ago when it bloated up and never trimmed back down. Most here recommend http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/. For those who get chronically infected adding Malwarebytes Real Time protection (instead of just the free scanner) usually prevents it happening agian.

When I turned on my computer this AM the update balloon popped up saying there were 8 important updates. I clicked install and at the same time Acrobat Reader popped up with an update. So I installed that at the same time, then rebooted. When my desktop reappeared there was no mention of the recent Windows updates and the Acrobat Reader is v. 9.4.6. I checked and the latest version seems to be v. 10. How can I check to make sure the Windows updates installed? I entered "Windows Updates" in search box and nothing came up RE windows. I just need to know how I can access the list of the latest installed updates. Thanks.

all was fine this weekend up until saturday when i installed the most recent updates I cannot let them auto install as i have to be near wifi and have to have a chance to save my work first ok so now here is my problem the install goes perfect everything else was fine windows needs to restart so I told it most login updates. windows not recent 8.1 will after to restart later so i could finish my other work that i was doing online after all of that I shut down normally and take my machine home to discover upon reboot that it goes to a black screen windows 8.1 will not login after most recent updates. my first thought of course is to troubleshoot it with the install disk I load the install disk go into troubleshooting tools and browse files at this point i discover my c drive mounted as e and the system reserved that windows makes for the boot manager and things is mounted as c after changing this in the registry settings windows 8.1 will not login after most recent updates. through the same boot disk I am able to boot but instead of loading my account it shows my name with a missing profile pic no matter what password i give it either sits stuck on the word welcome or preparing windows but never logs in if it logs in then i get a black screen with only my mouse displayed and am able to move it but never get anything else I am able to use linux on another hardrive to go in and backup my files if needed but is there any other option besides complete reinstall of windows I do not have time to sit at burgerking for an entire day just to reupdate windows especially if it is indeed the update that caused this to further complicate things I have to download my graphics driver through linux and install manually because the builtin screen is crack making it very difficult to read anything which means I absolutely have to use an external screen in order to do this i used legacy win d rivers as those were the only ones to work before i upgraded to from might this cause the issue if so what options besides pray win legacy drivers work on my graphics card is there

A:windows 8.1 will not login after most recent updates.

Let's start with a couple of bootrec commands
Open up the repair tools and select the Command Prompt option.

Type these 3 commands exactly, pressing Enter after each one:

bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /rebuildbcd

The last one asks a question about installations to select - select "All" by pressing A and then press Enter

Let us know if that works and we'll move on from there.

I have my update set to download but choose what and when to update.

Since the update my laptop has gone nuts.

It first started not allowing me to get on internet, then its now allowing me. A message appeared "execution faled" or something like that.

My Avast has disappeared like a whipped dog.....cant get into "uninstall programs" to see if its there?

Control panel is off the planet and takes ages to load, then wont load diagnostic files - just shuts down.

System restore said it could not do the action required when I restored it to the point before the updates......

Am scared to touch anything as I have internet access but dont know if I am protected.......

Thanks if you know what this is????

If I run Windows Update pretty much all installs fail. If I run them manually and individually some updates will succeed. Windows 7 SP1 fails either way - typically with either a transactional conflict or a "used a name reserved for something else" error message. I've run SURT several times and have followed the posting instructions.

Adding CBS log and screen shots here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are some rare errors in the CBS log - and no SFC results. I had to dig into the archived logs to find the following summary report...

It's been doing the updates or whatever when the computer shuts down. Then when I go to boot up the computer it does the second part of the update, it gets to 15% then says failure to configure windows updates reverting changes, reboots and then I can log in to the computer. Every time I shuts down and boots up.

The updates that fail are,

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2705219)
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2706045)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2647753)

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2732487)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2732500)

I can also go into the event viewer if you need to me link the details XML view.
They also all show up as system error
Event ID: 20
Task Category: Windows Update Agent

If can help me get these updates to work that will be great.

A:2 windows 7 updates keep failing

Hello

Have you tried to manually install the two updates (KB .... on Google)?

Otherwise you must first disable Windows Update.

Type msconfig and go into services by removing the checkmark to its entry, then you have to restart the pc.

After reboot:

Go to C/Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download and delete the folder content.

Resume Windows Update (msconfig check back)
Restart your pc again and see if you can install updates.

I am working on an Acer 5334-2598 for a friend. It's her kids' computer and she has been running several years without any kind of antivirus. I installed AVG Free, ran Malware Bytes on it, as well as Adware and autoruns. I've removed quite a bit of junk and viruses, but it will not install any updates to the OS from Microsoft. The computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. When I try to install updates, it gives me the unknown error code. Right now, everytime you turn off the computer, it tries to install 89 updates, which it never can do, because they always fail. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

A:Windows 7 updates failing

In case I wasn't clear, I did run a whole computer scan with AVG. It found nearly 300 trojans, viruses and other malware, and successfully removed or contained them. Malware Bytes found several more PUPs (they were removed) and Adware found some annoying popups (also removed). I saved logs from Malware Bytes and Adware.

I have a several year old HP Laptop. A few months ago windows updates started to fail when computer restarted and tried to reconfigure itself with the updates. I would get a message saying it was reverting to old configuration.

I used system recovery to restore system to factory configuration. It was successful. It later tried to install over 100 windows updates. It then failed as stated above.

The only anomaly is a message about primary battery needs to be replaced. I have attempted all the updates with the power supply plugged into the computer.

Any suggestions for successfully installing windows updates?

A:Windows 7 Updates Failing

Hello baron100, Welcome to TSF.

It would help us greatly if you could give us the model, and perhaps an accurate age, of your HP Laptop.
I found have numerous occasions where Windows Updates fail. (I am using a HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop 9 that's months old with Windows? 7 Home Premium.)
My personal solution was to continue persistently with checking for Updates, until they eventually succeed. (I did them through "Windows Updates" via the Control Panel).

If you can't get the updates this way, could you please give us the 'Error Code' associated with the failure/s.
Did you install a completely new version of Windows?7, or was it an Upgrade?

Post back with the details.

Kind Regards,

Hello all,

Having some issues with my Win 7 updating. I am getting error Code 8024200D from the Windows Update manager. Thus far, I have followed Microsoft's troubleshooting steps utilizing the IfixIt client, System Readiness Tool (This just wants to install the same Hotfix over and over), Checksum and the Automatic Troubleshooter. The Automatic troubleshooter indicates there are 2 errors it can't fix. With that said, none of the other "Microsoft Approved Scanners or Suggestions" find anything.

Thoughts?

Edit, it seems some updates will install, but some updates with net framework and updates for win 7 fail.

1. When updating Windows, I get "Some Updates not installed". Errors found: CODE 800B0100.
When I view update history when trying to install KB982536, I get the information - Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1, Windows Vista SP2 Failed.

2. I also get on Startup - "Error loading C:\users\.......\CNMSS" Specified module could not be found.
The ribbon at base of screen states "Run DLL"

Are these two problems connected?

Any help in curing these problems would be much appreciated.

Thankyou

Hi to all,

Yet another windows update problem. There are 6 updates that will just not complete. Others have been succesful. I have ran the SURT both in February and the latest version from the MS site. This latest KB947821 version installed, it says with no problems. Last months version had problems and would not install. Ran SFC as administrator and although producing CBS.log says that it found no configuration problems. This has been bugging me for a couple of months now and these few updates just do not want to know. Attached are some sniping tool shots and the CBS.log file. Any forthcoming help much appreciated.

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

I've been trying to download windows updates and all I get is "Downloading Updates" with 0 kb, 0% downloading forever. There is no error message. What could be blocking this? I realize there are probably a million different answers, but if you could point me in a general direction, I'd be grateful.

Hello everyone. Today I had the windows updates problem - BSOD after installing windows updates, and had to remove one of the security files (like 100s of other people). However, at some point in this process I lost my audio driver, and cannot get it reinstalled. Realtech HD Audio cannot start code 10. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 with XP Pro SP3. I have removed and reinstalled the driver, and tried updating it, several times from device manager and from the add hardware wizard. I think the required files are in my computer, but I cannot get it to start. Error message is always the same
- The software for this device is now installed, but it may not work correctly. The device cannot start. (Code 10)
Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this?
Oh, all my audio codecs are ok. There is no audio listed in System devices in device manager - should there be?

Update, although maybe no one is listening...
in dxdiag, the following: "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

There are several errors in Eventviewer, but none specific to the sound.

No attachment.  If any BSOD's, change in System Properties under the Advanced tab, click on the radio button for Settings, and change the machine to not reboot after a BSOD, and the log to "Complete Memory Dump".  Did you try a System Restore back before this all happened?  I would after you get this straightened out, use Clonezilla (download Tuxboot from Tuxboot.org to make a bootable USB Pendrive or CD), then clone the drive to either a DVD or Network drive.

Windows also has been known to pull bad updates, due to they end up finding out that they do cause issues.  The last one is for RDC, but also is for Windows 8.x Server 2012 r2, that it changes the behavior of RDC (Remote Desktop Connection.  I would just shut RDC off and use Teamviewer, if you access your computer remotely while either in the house, or away.

I don't know if this is a problem, but for the last 3 days there have been updates available on shutdown.... I know this is not unusual, but when turning on it is also doing a longer than normal configuration as it installs... so it almost seems like the same update is not taking and it keeps trying?

I just turned the computer on after having it off for a few hours, when I shut it down earlier it had updates, and now I see they are there again ?

anyone else notice this, or is it just me? Any ideas?

Not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I have had 5+ Windows 7 users with Explorer crashes today. The Explorer Window loads but only displays Favourites and Libraries. All users have similar setups so it may be some other software causing
the problem but I suspect Windows updates may be at fault here. Restarting Explorer.exe brings it back but not a permanent fix

Also these users report not being able to load thumbnails on network drives, where as Windows 10 users can view the same drives fine.
Anyone else had anything similar with Windows 7 machines?

So as of about a week ago, I've been having some issues with some applications stuck in an 'always on top mode'. For example, I may be using Pidgin IM, and I'll open up Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer will open up behind Pidgin, and even clicking on Windows Explorer won't bring it in the foreground, thereby causing me to have to minimize pidgin manually.

I thought this was a problem with just me, but one of my friends just recently complained about this too, which leads me to believe that this is affecting a lot of others.

Does anyone know anything about this problem or how to fix it? Running Windows 8.1 Pro.

What is the Microsoft thinking here? We want to build a master image, update it (including any store apps), and then have it deployed in an updated state for all users.

But as we found out the hard way, you don't update store apps before you run sysprep or you are in not going to be able to even run sysprep to capture the image;
Sysprep fails if Metro Apps have been "updated"

Then, on a machine that is used by multiple people, each has to update the store apps on a per user basis? Really??? Are Windows updates on a per user basis, no. Are service packs on a per user basis, nope. What the hell Microsoft.

Hi there

Even worse on Windows 8.1 -- No Enterprise version available and there doesn't seem to be any way once an image is deployed of avoiding the user to logon the First Time with a Microsoft ID. - Whoever thought of that one deserves to be hung drawn and quartered --IN PUBLIC. !!

Is anyone else finding the store nothing short of hopeless with regard auto app updates. The process works because some apps do update. But the amount of times they also get stuck is ridiculous. I'll often go into the store on my PC and sometimes manually do a check for updates. But as I go to the downloads and updates tab I quite often see a couple of apps stuck updating at 0.1 and nothing seems to bump the along (even exiting the store) unless I press the cross to stop it and then recheck for updates whereupon said updates will re appear and I can initiate a manual update which seems to work. I notice the actual native MS apps are the most prone. I even got offered an update for Twitter which was stuck. I don't even have that one installed! It just seems plain buggy to me. Do you think I am better off turning auto updates off

Apart from few games, just couple of days ago, I installed VLC player APP and it's pretty good although with less options than in desktop version. It's good enough for fast opening of MM files so I made it as default player.

A:IE very bizarre and windows KB Updates failing

If you want to re-install IE6 then just re-install SP2 and of course you may have to go thru all of the updates.

But first I would run a HijackThis and let our experts with the gold shield troubleshoot the log file and make sure your computer is clean.

To download HJTsetup.exe from SpyKiller To Download HijackThis go to the following at the File Repository
Click on the button for Download to the right of HijackThis Self Installer:

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item5

Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialog boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialog.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
A security expert with a gold shield to the right of their name should take a look at your log - please be patient.

I've just started receiving a problem with not being able to install Windows updates. They seem to download ok, but I'm getting failing errors upon trying to install them.

The error codes I'm receiving are Code 800B0100, and Code 8024200D.

I've run scan now under the command prompt and did not receive any integrity issues.

I'm trying to attach the CBS.zip file to this thread, but all I end up with is a 404 server error, so I'm not sure what that's all about. At any rate, I'll keep trying to upload the file for someone more knowledgeable than me to take a look at, and hopefully, please help me out.

A:Windows updates are failing to install

Dear photogirl,
Here is an excellent and comprehensive article by Microsoft on trouble shooting your exact problem. Ten problems are listed and ten solutions are suggested. Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2

First off (if you have not done so already) download and run the System Update Readiness Tool. Download : Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2
That itself may set right the prob. at times.

Proceed to the next step if the prob. is unsolved, as suggested in the first link.

Best wishes,
sree

I just built my new PC a few days ago, and installed Windows 7 a couple days ago through an ISO I had. Installation went great, however upon searching for updates, 182 of the 188 available updates have failed numerous times after trying to install them. Just before posting I tried to install them again and it came up with this:

I also took a screen shot of the update history in case you need to know which updates were actually successful.

Not sure how I'm supposed to upload the CBS file because even after compressing it, it is still 100MB and the max you can upload is 8. Any tips?

A:Windows updates failing to load.

Does the PC still have the factory install? If so that is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts won't even run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Everything needed is in the blue link to get and keep a perfect install just like a million others have done without a single complaint.

Got notice of impending updates, so I select all of them for installation -- and they failed.

Updates:
- KB3008923
- KB3013769
- KB2989930
- KB3008925
- KB3013816
- KB3004394
- KB3012199
- KB2994290
- KB3013410

Error codes were mixture of 800F0920 and 80071A91.

When I checked more info on each of these, I got an error message that MS had no details for either.

I've run these three times, and it's failed the same all three times.

I rebooted for the last time, went to Windows Update and NOW it says there are no new updates.

Anyone else experiencing these problems?

I'm trying to get SP1 because I know it has a bunch of bug fixes and stability improvements for Windows 7, but it along with several updates keep continuously failing.

I've had this problem for a while now, and sometimes it seems like they install fine, but after a restart they usually come back saying they need to be downloaded again. The only updates that have seemed to have completed successfully are the monthly Windows Malicious Software Removal Tools and the Definition Updates for MSE.

Any help on trying to get all my updates, including SP1, to install successfully will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have installed Windows 8 Pro (purchased last year- legal) on my laptop/notebook and tried to update. There were 145 updates, it took me hours yesterday to update. My laptop was running W7 Home Edition before. Everything seemed to go well with the actual W8 but to update to W8.1 I have to install the 145 updates first, but get a message stating 'Failure configuring updates. Reverting changes'. I have tried again today but the same thing happens.

HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC 64bit
4g Hard Drive.

I have read a post regarding the Windows update Troubleshooting. As soon as my computer finishes reversing the updates I will try it out.

Your assistance would be appreciated.

A:BSOD after recent Windows Updates, error 0x0000006b

All the dumps are showing stop 6B.

Usual causes: Hard drive, Cables, Missing boot files, Disabled driver

Do some Disc checks.
Update your SSD's Firmware (skip it, if it is not a SSD)
Re-seat the sata and power.

Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
After re-seating the cables, if the problems persist, you may try changing cables. A bad cable also may cause it.

For ensure that it is not a boot issue, run Startup Repair for three separate times, with restarts after every single run.
Startup Repair: Run three separate times.

If all failed, do a System Restore to a point earlier than that update.

Hi all! I am on my sister's computer doing my routine check on it, and its having issues checking for updates in the Windows Store. The wheel on "Check for updates" just keeps spinning and doesn't stop.

Specs: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, Version 10.0.10586 Build 10586, Acer Aspire 5749Z, 64-bit, Intel Pentium.

I hope those specs are enough information for whoever knows how to fix this issue.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
