Two different BSOD's, unpredictable timing

Q: Two different BSOD's, unpredictable timing

Hey guys,

First time poster here, I've always managed to fix everything myself with a little Googling, but this one's got me beaten.

I've got two different BSODs, one of which is the "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA", and the other always reboots so quickly that I don't have time to even read the error code.

I've attached the logs below, help would be much appreciated

Thanks!

EDIT - Added another set of logs from the "dm log collector.exe" tool

Preferred Solution: Two different BSOD's, unpredictable timing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Two different BSOD's, unpredictable timing

Hi Gapper100 & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-
First of all, let's check out the Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area which means that a driver referenced invalid system memory. Let's first check the stack -

Code:
1: kd> k
Child-SP RetAddr Call Site
ffffd000`21e06188 fffff800`ce984a7f nt!KeBugCheckEx
ffffd000`21e06190 fffff800`ce854869 nt! ?? ::FNODOBFM::`string'+0x1c8cf
ffffd000`21e06230 fffff800`ce961f2f nt!MmAccessFault+0x7a9
ffffd000`21e06370 fffff800`ce964525 nt!KiPageFault+0x12f

ffffd000`21e06620 fffff800`268736c9 nt!IopfCompleteRequest+0x7fc
ffffd000`21e06730 00000000`00000156 copperhd+0x16c9
ffffd000`21e06738 00000000`00000000 0x156

Hmm, so what is "copperhd.sys"? It is your Razer DiamondBack's Driver. Now, Razer devices are very famous to cause BSOD's especially the drivers from 2009. Let's check the driver date of this one -

Code:
1: kd> lmvm copperhd
start end module name
fffff800`26872000 fffff800`26875800 copperhd T (no symbols)
Loaded symbol image file: copperhd.sys

ImageSize: 00003800
Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4

And there we have it.
Now, let us have a look at the other dump file which is the KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED which means that a Kernel Mode Exception was generated which could not be handled or caught by the Exception Handler. Let us take a look at the stack of this dump file -

Code:
2: kd> k
Child-SP RetAddr Call Site

ffffd001`3c3739a0 00000000`00000000 0x2000

So, in this case there is the presence of your Intel Gigabit Adapter which caused a Page Fault.

Code:
2: kd> lmvm e1i63x64
start end module name
fffff801`0c653000 fffff801`0c6c7000 e1i63x64 T (no symbols)

So, according to the above analysis :-

Please either remove your Razer DiamondBack (Physically Detach it from the system) or find an updated version of the driver which is compatible with the Windows 8.1. You can visit **THIS** link for more information. Please find an updated version for your Intel Gigabit Adapter. You can visit **THIS** link for more information.
Let me know how it goes ^_^

Hi guys Recently I have been experiencing BSOD a couple of times it started a few months back maybe once or twice a month i tried to isolate the hardware to find out what is causing the BSOD but to no avail It was hard to do troubleshooting as it does not always happen However when it is and random unpredictable BSOD that does after the BSOD the computer will attempt to reboot again but it will keep booting up and then shutdown again repeating a few times before successfully booting it back to the user log in The phase where it boots up and shutdown repeatedly to put in more details it's like when you turn on your computer you will hear the fans running LEDs coming on etc etc then it will immediately shut back down and repeat again Since yesterday i have already experience BSOD about times and now my computer has been restarting on it's own no BSOD nothing no warning as well To add on the BSOD happens as and when it likes sometimes gaming web browsing etc etc even when it's just idling I'm not sure what is causing it as I do not have much knowledge on problems like these Will appreciate all help below is the log generated Thanks in advance Update I have run the memtest and have consecutive passes guess we can eliminate the suspect of the RAM Update The BSOD is very random everytime it happens the error is completely different sometime services sometime some initialisation isssues Therefore I decided to do a reformat to eliminate the software suspect and it is still happening but far lesser than before reformat I seem to notice the frequency tends to increase if I'm using anything that has got to do with Java

Test your RAM modules for possible errors. How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

If it does not show any error, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers. Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

** EDIT: Before enabling Driver Verifier, Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Otherwise windows will refuse to go to the desktop with DV enabled.

Also since many of your blue screens are related to system files, recommend running SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You also had problems with DirectX at one point.. look at: Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX

DirectX issues can be due to display card driver problems, do the following:

1. Download and install Driver Sweeper
2. Download the latest driver for your display card
3. Click Start Menu
4. Right Click My Computer

Hi guys,

I'm having this on and off problem with my Dell XPS M1330 running Vista home premium. I've updated my drivers to all the latest drivers and had dell replace all my whole motherboard with video card and my touch sensitive LED buttons, but i am still having BSOD problems. Sometimes the problem is with tcpip.sys, sometimes its not.

can any kind soul help? Thanks in advance

A:Persistant Unpredictable BSOD on VISTA

My Brand new D630 came with Vista Ultimate and got a lot of BSODs. I ran every possible diagnostic software with 0 errors, so I thought it was no a hardware problem. Called Microsoft and they gave me a Downgrade key for Windows XP Pro Sp2. I had only two BSOD with Xp and I think the cause is the Video driver I downloaded form Intel. Now turned back to Dell Video driver and no more BSODs. Im not pretending to return to Vista soon.

It can happen instantly when I load up minecraft or not at all after playing arkham city for 2 hours. Ive ran memtest for 9 passes with no error. Ive made sure all my drivers are updated. Im on my second video card, because I thought that was the issue initially and gave me an excuse to order a newer one. I flashed the bios to the newest version I found and the errors stopped for about a month or so, long enough for me to throw away my boxes. I dont know what else to do. I appreciate any help. The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Hello tenforums users! I've been getting a lot of random BSODs since last week but I couldn't tell what was the issue. I've read about the error on the Internet and from what I understand from those, Machine Check Exception will occur to drivers issue, hardware issues (CPU or RAM). I've checked the RAM sticks in my PC (booting with only 1 stick and switching slots every time BSOD happens), changing the thermal compound in case of bad conduction, but still no luck. I've also reformatted the Windows partition and the BSOD occurred not long after it booted up. Windows ran fine in Safe Mode for about an hour. Any help would be appreciated! This is my first time using tenforums so I will try my best to follow the rules of posting. Cheers. DESKTOP-VUK87C3-Mon_10_10_2016_223559_98.zip

Hi guys,

I've had 2 distinct BSOD error messages so far -

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (which is the most common, at least once today)
page fault in nonpaged area (which has happened twice so far - both times yesterday)

I ran memtest86 today on boot and no errors were found.

All hardware in the system is brand new -

A:BSOD when using music software and other unpredictable occasions

How long did you run Memtest? Make sure to run at least 7 consecutive passes, not just one. This means all tests done 7 times.

So you can invoke a system crash from running your music software consistently? Is there any particular activity in the software that has the highest chance of triggering it?

Anyways, I don't think these minidumps will be sufficient just by themselves. You'll want to turn on Driver Verifier checks and send us the crashdumps created by them. Make sure to read the whole article.

Hi,

I have been suffering from random and unpredictable 0x44 BSODs for a few weeks now and I'm finally stuck. I cannot trigger the crashes and there's no obvious pattern to when they occur - sometimes while the PC is idle and sometimes when it's in use.
I have made no significant changes to my computer that I'm aware of, certainly no hardware upgrades or changes. The most recent was a new mouse but that happened over a month before the issues began.

I have run dskchk, memory diagnostics, updated every driver I could and clean installed the nvidia display driver without luck.

I had a cursory glance at the memory dump myself and it's just a system driver being implicated each time and I can't read into it any more than that. Any hints or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

A:BSOD: Unpredictable Multiple IRP Complete Requests

Hi Jpross.

Stop 0x44 BSODs are complicated. Often it is caused by two different drivers. But we are able to find one. Let us fix it first and see how the situation goes.

Update the network driver from Realtek .... get the first one from the list: Win7 and WinServer 2008 R2 Driver. Install it by following Driver Install - Device Manager.

Let us know the results. Will decide our next course of actions depending on the situation.

Hello I am for some time now experiencing a weird kind of BSOD sometimes without freezes, Desktop sound BSOD loop. in unpredictable intervals, actual BlueScreen but windows still tells me it was indeed a BlueScreen after the ReBoot It happens in all kinds of Situations While i play a game that taxes my PC to the limit while watching Videos listening to music or while completely Idle The sound loop which appears to be the last sound played before the error occurs lasts about seconds before the PC reboots automatically Usually i reset it before that because the sound is very annoying When the PC is Idle while it BSOD in unpredictable intervals, Desktop freezes, sound loop. crashes there is no sound at all obviously I have switched several pieces of Hardware in the last few Months CPU GPU Motherboard but that didn't seem to affect the Issue at all I tried finding help with this issue before but from what i could find which wasn't very much since i had almost nothing to go on i assumed it was a GPU driver issue and there was nothing i could do about it Now it's getting really annoying since it's completely random Sometimes i use my PC for a week without crash and the next day it crashes times in one hour There seems to be no real pattern None that i can recognize anyway I use the following Hardware in my PC AMD FX Ghz GB Dual-Channel DDR MHz - - - Gigabyte GA- LMT-USB Socket M MB ATI AMD Radeon HD Series Sapphire PCPartner GB Samsung SSD EVO GB ATA Device SSD GB Seagate ST DM - ER ATA Device SATA Also i attached the File created with the tool mentioned in the How-To Post in this Forum The Event Viewer shows some Critical errors but they all seem to be a response to the unexpected shut down due to the crash and not the reason for the Crash in itself Quote from the Error description quot The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first This error could be caused if the system stopped responding crashed or lost power unexpectedly quot I'd really appreciate any help with this issue Edit I forgot to mention that i am using SP and have all the updates installed that are avaiable via the Windows Updater I also have the driver verifier enabled right now and i will run memtest tommorrow since i currently don't have a free USB stick or empty CDs lying around

A:BSOD in unpredictable intervals, Desktop freezes, sound loop.

So, about 20 minutes after i enabled the Driver Verifier my System froze again. This time without any sound and a different screen. It looked like a partially restored image from a formatted drive where nothing remains of the original image. It's difficult to describe.

The Event log doesn't show anything that seems related, but that could very well be because i have no idea what to look for. Is there anything i can do to add something that could help someone else see the problem?

Edit: Ran the data collection tool again after the "new" verifier provoked crash. Added the zip file as attachment.

For some time now I've been getting BSODs. Usually this occurs when I'm gaming (League of Legends, Dark Souls II) but sometimes it has happened on start-up after a BSOD or just randomly. No single event seems to trigger these but again it happens more often when gaming. I do not remember all of the error codes given. I recently updated my video card driver in response to this happening which didn't seem to change anything.

Edit: Also, upon restarting my computer, my internet will not connect unless I unplug my wireless adapter and plug it back in. Not sure if relevant, thought I'd share anyhow.

First
Run a complete antivirus scan
Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes. Be sure to update the software before the scan.

Welcome

Problematic software:

Code:
Start Menu\Programs\AVG Public:Start Menu\Programs\AVG Public
AVG contributes in BSODs. Please uninstall it with the Removal Tool and replace with free MSE at least to test.

Recommended antivirus program for Windows 7 based on stability compared to others:- Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows
Malwarebytes - The Free version
Good and Free system security combination.
Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

Hi James R 909.

Disabling hibernate will be good for you. And hibernate is not a must for a desktop.

Also Install Service pack 1 and all other windows updates. Otherwise the system will remain vulnerable to threats.

Hi,

My name is brandon.
My Asus U46e has been BSOD on me lately.
When it first started, i replaced my ram. it worked, but then it happened again a few weeks ago.
My harddrive was not even a 1/4 of the way full, and it keeps dumping when i search in it. (it seems)
I have defragged my computer, and i have completely restored back to factory settings, but still happens.
i get Memory_manager error
i get nonpage fault error
and i another one i cant think of at the moment.

I want to know, if there is software to fix the problem, or if i need to buy a new hard drive, or something else.
Please help.

thank you for your time.
brandon.

Only 35 updates since SP1 - most systems have 75 to 80 (or more). Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates.

Android Phone USB device may not be working properly. Please uninstall it to see if that helps. Leave it uninstalled until the system is stable again.

There's a fair presence of Symantec in your memory dumps. I'd suggest testing to see if that's the problem. To do that, please try this:
- download a free antivirus for testing purposes: Free AntiVirus
- uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection
- install the free antivirus and immediately update it
- monitor for further BSOD's

It looks like there's a USB Video device, but we don't have a record of the drivers for it in the DRT (Driver Reference Table located here: Driver Reference Table (DRT) ) I'll have to look them up (and add them to the table) in order to see what device it actually belongs to (I think it's from Magic Control).

Meanwhile I'd check to see if the device that you're using is here: USB Display Adapter-Magic Control Technology Corp.
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...edictable.html
If so, uninstall the current drivers for it on the system and then download a fresh copy from that website and install them. Ensure that the driver is Win7 compatible BEFORE installing it!!!

If all of this doesn't fix the problem, then we have to start looking at hardware issues. Please try the free diagnostics here: http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

Recently, after installing an extra 8GB of ram (I made sure it was the same freq and CAS timings before I got it) and a new SSD to use for boot/system files, I've been getting random BSODs (the latest was "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT", unsure about the earlier ones). I first ran memtest86+ fully twice, and it reported no errors, so I set my old HDD back to the boot drive and disabled the SSD via device manager, but the BSODs still happen. Not sure where to go from here.

Full system info in the system specs profile page thing, if they're not in either of the reports.

Hello Somebody please help me Recently my computer has been unpredictably crashing When it crashes an error message on a blue screen appears but I cannot read it because it reboots its self to quickly I have read some information on blue screen errors and it suggests that it is due to Crashes Unpredictable a problem with drivers and suggests trying to remove the last program that was installed and re-installing it Well I cant remember the last programme that was installed but it wasn t recently The only thing I can think of is a recent removal of quarantined viruses I have recovered my system from a previous system restore from before the problem was occurring then I noticed that the viruses were still there so again I removed these viruses and again the Unpredictable Crashes blue screen problem occurred I don t know if this is a coincidence or if it the root of the problem but if it is then ow do I get rid of the viruses without Unpredictable Crashes causing this problem Is there some piece of software I can run that will check to see what programme or driver is at fault If you need a hyjack this file then I can provide but I didn t think it would be useful Many thanks and best regards Tarzan

You can stop your machine from rebooting automatically by:

Right click "My Computer" and choose Properties.
Click on the "Advanced" tab
Click on the "Settings" button listed under "Startup and Recovery"
In the middle of this box under "System failure" there is a check box next to "Automatically restart". Uncheck this box.
Now OK out of "Startup and Recovery" and "System Properties"

Next time it crashes copy the exact error message (with all the numbers) and post it back here.

My 12 yr old desktop is a trusty friend. I expect it to crash any day, but I much prefer it to my shiny, new laptop. The desktop keyboard has been acting up lately. It works fine when I boot up, but if the desktop sleeps or hibernates, then the keyboard won't work. The only time it will work is if I totally turn off the computer and restart it. (it is not a usb connection, but the other kind that's round with little prongs.) I'll gladly buy a new keyboard if that may be the problem. Or is this the kiss of death for my old friend? Thanks, geniuses, in advance for your help.

Guys,
I installed Win 8 Preview on my two PCs and laptop months ago. Recently, all of them started having shutting down problem. when shutting down there were notice that windows isn't properly shut down, need to restart, then restarted. Sometimes it just restarted when shut down without any notice. It is now getting tricky to shut down, I did some step like disconnecting the internet, terminating all working program (usually I don't). It works once, but not at the next. Is it due to some updates, or something else?
Please share if you have the same problem.

A:Unpredictable shut down behavior

It sounds to me like something is maybe running in the background, I would suggest checking your start up programs (msconfig) firstly unchecking all that you do not need and if that doesn't help unchecking the rest, restarting each time until you find the culprit.
As it has recently started I would concentrate on the last installed programs.

I have a problem where sometimes videos play in lower pixel, higher contrast on my PC no matter what the programme, Windows Media Player, DivX Player or Winamp, but sometimes in a darker contrast, better quality for reasons I can't figure out, and not as a result of me changing any settings, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Unpredictable video quality

Are you talking about different videos or the same one playing in different quality at different times? If different videos, maybe its the quality of the video itself????

I use standby a lot...but lately, it seems to have a mind of its own at times. There will be times that I do not go on the desktop for maybe 3 hours and it stays on standby, and at other times, I can hear the power coming on after an hour or so, when I am not ready to use it. Any ideas why this happens?

Hi,
I don't know what is going on - maybe someone here can help.

If the PC is inactive for a few minutes it goes into hibernation and then when I try to resuscitate it - it shuts down. This has been followed by my monitor not turning on - then turning on only when I press another button on the panel (not the power on button). Then it takes a few tries before it settles down again.

In Power Options - I checked *NEVER* in all the boxes - i.e. not to go to standby or to shutdown.

As a side note - I changed the CPU 2 days after this started, thinking that it was the CPU - and it worked without problems for 2 days - till now - now it's starting up again.

What's happening here?

TIA
blue

Hey all I've got a few questions for you Basically I just built a new rig I'm using a P NGM Mobo an e dualcore gb of xm RAM radeon and an LG GH NP Dvd writer reader I threw in my old Restarts+CDROM working. isn't Unpredictable hard drive with XP SP on it to use since I have all my personal info on it already Right Unpredictable Restarts+CDROM isn't working. away the machine booted fine but for some reason my DVD drive wont work It appears as drive G in My Computer but won't let me eject it through right clicking nor does it read the cd dvd that's put in I tried another drive I KNOW works with the same cable connecting it to the mobo and got the same result nothing Now my computer also has been restarting for NO reason unexpectedly There's no warning at all My drivers for everything are the latest I can get and it all works perfectly except the OS I am going to buy a new hard drive tomorrow so I can install the OS clean but i don't know how I'm going to do it Is there a chance the OS is preventing the dvd drive from working correctly If so a new HD should fix that But if it doesn't how can I install windows to the new hard drive Eek Help

A:Unpredictable Restarts+CDROM isn't working.

Most problems like the one you are facing are caused by bad or flaky PSU's. Check the output voltages on the PSU and make sure that it has sufficient wattage.

I was just playing a game Drop Sudden, Throughput Unpredictable of Team Fortress last night when suddenly and I have no better way to describe this my Internet connection slowed to Sudden, Unpredictable Throughput Drop a screeching halt I d like to be able to say that in a more technical way but I ve found it impossible to diagnose Now it s not universal Certain servers in games have pings that are just jimdandy and others are through the roof Certain websites and webpages take minutes to load on a kbps connection Unusually torrenting speeds have remained very steady although low all throughout the incident Most applications I use are superfluously portforwarded anyways A quick scan with HijackThis reveals no overtly suspicious entries AVG turns up zilch and both Spybot S D and Ad-Aware SE are both completely baffled I combed through the thirty processes I had running and not a one looked malicious or harmful to connection speed I even went to the other computer that shares this router and shut it down so there was no way it could sap bandwidth Any ideas mates nbsp

A:Sudden, Unpredictable Throughput Drop

Is this a once off error?

If so, I'd say your server had a 1 second issue, that caused your game to fault.

Also it's always wise to clean your system temp files, I use CCleaner (works well)

And, sometimes you should reset your modem / router , most leave them on forever; but a reset often helps (that's why they always say Have you tried resetting, bla bla bla)

Hi all
I'm going round the TWIST with Outlook 2010

Now on Outlook 2010 when I delete stuff - NOTHING shows in the DELETED ITEMS folder on the Server after I've clicked delete items (I've got a Leave on server until purged however).

On a Laptop I've logged on to Outlook 2007 -- Guess what -- I can see all the deleted mail items with a line through them on the server going back to 29 Dec 2009.

When I purge (on 2007) these are GONE. CORRECT.

So what on EARTH is outlook 2010 doing with the deleted items on the server -- I can't see them anywhere anymore.

Where can I see pending items before they are finally purged.

This behavious is NOT good as I could fill up the mail box with deleted items without knowing that a single item is still on the server.

So that's it

NO MORE OUTLOOK 2010.

Cheers
jimbo

Setup Athlon x XP Pro Gig RAM GIG HD gig free Asus A n SLI - video card Recently system has become rather unstable and unpredictable It will just freeze up for no reason You can't even get task manager Today I had tremendous difficulty rebooting Can't even get into safe mode At first I thought maybe HD was failing When I get into setup menu it was only showing HD I have The one w OS wasn't coming up at all If I reboot repeatedly sometimes drives show sometimes only - but if only HD is showing it's always the slave and not the master Unstable, unpredictable freeze system I think this makes the boot order all messed Unstable, unpredictable system freeze up If it doesn't see the master drive it moves the slave up to in boot order Then on subsequent reboots even if it sees the master it doesn't put it back in boot order So I have to F to select the master drive After hours of trying for some reason I got booted into XP normal THe first time it didn't really freeze but cursor changed to hourglass if you hovered over taskbar and the anti-virus didn't load into the tray I rebooted again and system seems to be running OK I had already run virus scans but decided to try again It scanned a large windows directory and HD seemed to be hustling along w no problem It didn't find any virus but it found some cab files that were corrupted in windows softwaredistribution Any idea what to do about these I tried Chkdsk - kind of weird It says it can't do f because some process has hold of the disk and won't let go Even in safe mode w only about - processes still no f I tried turning off Explorer still f won't go When I do chkdsk wo f it shows no bad sectors and no other errors warnings just disk space tallies etc I do not seem to have scandisk or memtest anywhere on disk Can they be downloaded I don't believe it's power supply Don't remember what it is but I got the nd one down from top of line offered by CyberPower Also It's been running fine for years or so and running fine for to years w HD's So if it was deficient why problems only now all of a sudden I haven't added too much software but MS Adobe etc are always updating stuff on my computer But that's been going on for years so I don't know why it should be a problem all of a sudden I don't OC I don't play games too much the ones I have haven't been used recently This is so weird it is running quite well right now but I wouldn't be surprised if it goes into a funk again But I can't afford to have the computer just go off for indeterminate periods like this I'm in the middle of a big job search right now Don't know if it's worth mentioning but I've always been plagued by the BSD However it didn't occur often enough to be be much of a problem and it always rebooted fine It doesn't seem related to this recent malaise Any help would be appreciated thank in advance

This computer (XP Pro SP2, on SBS2003 network) has been having problems for a while, but they're becoming more severe and starting to really hinder the work of the user. They're getting DEP messages on explorer.exe, as well as other general problems with the system locking up, slow response, various memory conflict errors, etc. I've run the standard logs (Defogger, DDS, RKU), they're in the attached zip.

Please Help! Thank you!!

I find that Norton changes the prices of its products frequently.
For example, the regular price of norton security with backup (NSBU) is $89.99.
However, sometimes Norton will give a discount such that you can buy NSBU with $49.99.
I hear that sometimes the price of NSBU is adjusted to $39.99.

The problem is that I cannot find any announcement of discount in the official site or any third-party site.
It seems that the discount is just ... a random event?
Could anyone predict that when the price of NSBU goes down to $39.99 again?

A:The price of NSBU is predictable or unpredictable?

Have you installed the trial? Some days before the expiration you will get a pop-up from Norton asking you to purchase it with a huge discount. 2 years ago I got a 3 user NIS license for 29,99 this way.

A:Unpredictable BSODs on Vista, different errors every time

Hello Jay, Thank you for posting your system specs.
We would like to help, but we need a little more from you.

You told us that nothing you tried had worked.
What exactly has been tried?
Have you followed the preliminary suggestions offered by Julio, here?
You have not provided any minidumps for us to look at.
A zip of your most recent five would be helpful.

Having offered this much...
Having erratic / unpredictable errors sometimes is a symptom that sometimes shows up with malware.
Also, sometimes this kind of symptom will show up with bad, or improperly configured RAM.

I would suggest that you pay close attention to the suggestions in the link above.
Then focus on the suggestions that relate to memory and system configuration.
Specifically,

Make sure your ram is on the HCL for your mb.
make sure that your ram settings are properly entered in BIOS.
If you are overclocking, reset this as well.
Then run Memtest, per the guide we offer here
Please note that (unless you start getting errors reported) you will need to let this run a long time.
A good way of doing this is to let it run over night. In each 'pass" there are a series of eight memory tests that are run, each more complicated than the previous. You need to let it run a minimum of 7 passes, unless you start getting errors. If you have errors reported, you may want to re-run the test with only one stick of ram installed, checked each stick until you isolate those that are faulty. That way you can limit your replacement to those that actually need it.

Let us know the results. If your memory comes up without errors, then we can check other things.
HTH.

I recently built a new computer from scratch and put a fresh install of 7 home premium 64 bit (full retail).
I've done a couple of memtest passes with nothing found.
I'm out of ideas and would appreciate any help. I think it is an ssd problem, but am not sure.

A:Unpredictable BSODs Various error codes New Build

Hello,

It seems the first crash (September 5) was video-related, either hardware or software. Since then, you changed out your nVidia card for the 5770, outruling the possibility of both. The rest of the crashes are unrelated.

The other crashes all mention that McAfee was the running process at the time of the crash. While this does not prove its guilt, it does suggest a couple of things. Most likely, there is a network issue present, though it could also be a problem with McAfee. Start with the easy solution, updating the Intel ethernet driver: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...=%0ADrivers%0A
Code:
e1c62x64.sys Tue Sep 21 17:34:15 2010 (4C9924D7)
Install the ATK0110 driver from the utilities section here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P5KPL-CM

Your motherboard is a different version, but the driver is the same. The version installed is known to cause problems in Windows 7.
Code:
ASACPI.sys Thu Aug 12 22:52:52 2004 (411C2D04)
If the problem persists, run driver verifier: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Hello really wasnt sure if I should put this under BSOD or not but anyways I have an odd problem Since the beginning of April at random times too) and stops mouse up lighting Unpredictable (keyboard BlackSOD something happens to my computer that causes not only a black screen but my keyboard and mouse to not light up as well and my CPU fans are at full speed And its not the Unpredictable BlackSOD (keyboard and mouse stops lighting up too) type of black screen that people normally get with the white mouse cursor on the screen Its a complete loss of signal between my graphics card and my monitor This has happened a lot and amazingly every single time when I was away from my computer so I cant pin point exactly what causes it The only thing I can say is that I am Unpredictable BlackSOD (keyboard and mouse stops lighting up too) usually running problems when it happens VMware Web browser w Sandboxie I am Unpredictable BlackSOD (keyboard and mouse stops lighting up too) sure I have a lot of other conflicting software as well but I didn't install anything new other than Microsoft updates and these programs worked before in the past without any problems My graphics driver was up to date when this happened so I downgraded and it still happens I ran stress tests though maybe not long enough I feel like this is a driver issue software conflict more than anything unless my graphics card is going but it is pretty new It wouldnt be the HDMI cable because then why would my keyboard and mouse stop lighting up and my fans race I am extremely well informed in the malware area so I highly doubt its that I uploaded the log information The only error that happens in quot Event Viewer quot is this 'Faulting application name csrss exe version time stamp x a bc Faulting module name sxs dll version time stamp x ce c cc Exception code xc Fault offset x b f Faulting process id x c Faulting application start time x d e f f Faulting application path C Windows system csrss exe Faulting module path C Windows system sxs dll Report Id eaebf-ee - e -a - c ' I also get a lot of side by side errors if that has anything to do with it and this quot Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services The file will be unloaded now The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards quot Other than that this is really hard to diagnose This happens like once every day or so doing a clean boot would take forever If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it a lot

Hello Zero Access mate if you have not done so already I would try these first
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
if you have or they do nothing for the problem then lets get to the very basic stuff and try my ditty

Using HW Info
PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic. In my pic the section (Nuvoton) with VBATT is a dead give away you are in the section for the rail voltages. There are other section titles and one that pops up often is ITE
Now the voltage on the different rails have to be within 5% =+/- of what is required or the machine will not work properly if at all.
See this for the rail voltage info
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-specifications-atx-reference,3061.html (Section 2.)
The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel
FOR OTHER COMPONENTS
PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.

PS should have said use PART A:

Hi
I have a server that I has a shared drive I would like to access on my PC. I have my server and my PC connected to the same router by Ethernet, but this router does not have internet access. My PC is also connected to a router with internet access via a WiFi adapter.
In order to access the shared drive on my server and access the internet at the same time, I had to bridge the Ethernet connection to my router without internet, and the WiFi connection to the router with internet. However, occasionally I will not be able to access the internet through any program, and my web browser will display errors such as "dns_probe_finished_no_internet".
I am unsure what causes this problem, but it usually happens when I am accessing or transferring large amounts of data on the network drive.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks.

This is one of those problems that is difficult to search for, though I tried pretty hard.
Facts:

When multiple programs are running, if I click an icon on the taskbar to switch to that program, the icon just blinks. Sometimes when I have the problem, if I quickly click it 4 or 5 times it will switch. Other times, that doesn't help. I have to use ALT+TAB to switch programs.
Restarting the computer or logging off/on corrects the problem. Shutting down all running programs and opening them again doesn't help.
Has been happening for a long time, but I'm fed up with it today
Happens only sometimes, but I can't find a common variable between the occurrences and I can't reproduce it on demand
WinXP Home (multiple accounts, but only one person needs logged in when problem occurs)
Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Noticed some site hanging while loading in FF Long story short ran a trace to multiple sites tracert from command prompt and HOP 1 ON TIMING OUT discovered a quot time out quot at the st hop If I have my router connected the time out is after the router on the nd hop I always get to my destination url though So I had the ISP come amp change modem and that didn't solve the time out problem ISP tech connected TIMING OUT ON HOP 1 to neighbors computer connection amp received the same time out on hop So the problem seems to be a result of something other than my computer modem etc I have a family member with the same ISP in a different town and I ran the same trace from their computer amp did not receive a time out at all I just began noticing some site loading hangs last week which is what caused me to start digging Not sure if TIMING OUT ON HOP 1 the intermittent quot transferring data quot hangs are related to this quot timing out quot issue BTW TIMING OUT ON HOP 1 I seem to notice the hanging from FF not IE Maybe that's just because I use FF more Anyway the cable company has no idea at this point as to why this timing out is occurring amp I don't have a lot of faith that they ever will The tech that was here told me that the problem was not related to the ISP amp that it was not his problem Only after I kept him here continuing to attempt to solve the problem did he learn that the problem was not only being experienced by me amp that it does in fact seem to be ISP related Can anyone shed some light on this for me as I do not fully understand what's happening either Thanks

I had a matched pair of 2 1gb sticks of Corsair XMS DDR2 6400 RAM, running at 5-5-5-12 timing. One of them died last week, and I've found that Corsair doesn't sell the exact model I have in 1gb sticks. I've found 1gb sticks of DDR2-6400, but most often the timing is different. Does the timing have to be the same? Or is that something that modern motherboards automatically fix or something I can fix in BIOS?

Was browsing my 19" LCD Widescreen Acer AL1913w monitor and I came across a setting called OSD Timing, which is set at 20. My monitor is also 20ms. Are they related? I can move it all the way down to ten, and I think I notice a big difference but it might be in my head.

What does OSD timing do?

Hi,
I have recently installed a pair of ddr2 800 cl 4-4-4-15 sticks. The timing through the CPU-Z software shows that its cl 5-5-5-15. I am not able to manually change the timing through the BIOS. Is there any other way to change the timing to the right configuration?

Thanks

A:Ram timing

well, first off 5-5-5-15 is the right configuration, because that is what the RAM stick's SPD has for default timings. the RAM stick(s) may be guaranteed to run at 4-4-4-15, but that is not it's default timing.

second, if you can't change it in your BIOS then chances are you can't change it at all. there may be software programs available that can change it, but i don't know of any (I have never looked for any either ).

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. I doubt you would even notice an everyday difference between 4-4-4-15 and 5-5-5-15 anyways.

cheers

Q: Timing?

I began a topic looking for help with a virtumonde, et al. malware removal a week ago. Per the forum suggestions, I read the "posting instructions" thread, and I've not bumped my log, and have been patient.

Now I'm seeing that people who posted a log this morning are already receiving help?!? This morning vs a week ago? Hardly "resolv[ing] logs on a first come/first served basis"

Was I overlooked? Are there means to get priority treatment? Did I not follow proper protocol?

I'm not THAT miffed, but am just wondering what to do to get some help.

Thanks!

A:Timing?

All of our HJT Team helpers are volunteers but not all of them have the same skill level and expertise to deal with all types of malware. Although we try to take hijackthis logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. While We understand your frustration, in either case, you wouldn't want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it, would you? Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible.Thank you for understanding.R,K

So I'm looking at DDR2 Ram for my new PC. I've possibly settled on DDR2 800 but my question is how much difference do the timings make? Right now I'm comparing these 3 sets of ram:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820134125
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145034
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227089

The first 2 have 4-4-4-12, the last having 4-5-4-15. How much does this really matter? I've read that OCZ ram is very overclockable, so would it be worth paying a little less for the memory and overclocking it to better timings and faster speed? Also, what does ECC mean/matter? What is EPP (Enhanced Performance Profiles)? And why does ram have to be SLI certified? Or does it really? TY for input/knowledge.

A:Ram Timing

From reading the reviews about the OCZ ram I'm not going to get it. Seems like too many people have had to RMA it, and 2 people specified it doesn't work with the mobo I'm considering. Still any info to my above questions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have two pairs of ram with different timing. The first is Corsair 1600 2x2 gb with timing 9-9-9-24 and 1,65v and the second is Kingston 1600 2x2 gb 9-9-9-27 1,65v.
Can i use them together on a mobo Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 with default settings?

A:RAM two pairs with different timing?

You won't get a definitive answer to that until you try them.

On your side is the fact that both Corsair and Kingston are usually supported pretty well by Gigabyte motherboards.Another point in your favour would be that both RAM kits are standard timings.
If they do work then the timings will default to the most relaxed of the two kits.
If they do not work, then it could be indicative that the minor timings aren't in sync. That being the case you might want to download Memset and note all the timings of both kits. Clicking the " >>" button will expand to show all available memory channels.

I would advise NOT using the Memset utility to change memory timing values- use the BIOS.

Good luck.

A:Question On RAM Timing

Using ram of different timings, different voltages, etc is really asking for a problem. You might get lucky and they may work ok together however I doubt it.

If you really really must use mis-matched ram, then put the slower ram in the first slot on the mb. Now enter the bios and check the timings are set correctly ie to the slower ram speed. Set the vdimm [ram voltage] to 2.0V since that is about the middle of what each one can do.

Once done, run memtest for at least 1~2hr. If there are no errors, then you should be fine.

As to whether you would notice the slower ram timings, I highly doubt it. Do remember that if you are using a 32bit os, the most ram it can use is approx 3.25gig or so depending on hardware.

Hello Everyone. I bumped the tray on my CD/DVD drive and now it would appear the timing is off. Initially the tray was off its track. I took apart the drive and was able to get it back on but now the eye of the CD reader is bumping the tray so that it will not load into the drive all the way. Any suggestions what may have caused the timing to be off or any additional adjustments I might be able to make to correct the issue. Thanks for your help.

A:CD/DVD Tray Timing is off

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

If you have bent, or otherwise misaligned the laser arm/lense, then in all probability the cd/dvd drive is beyond repair.

With optical drives being so cheap these days, it might just be easier to replace the drive altogether.

Is it possible to set the time that a screen saver will display, at present mine only shows for a couple of seconds, then blank screen.?

Is it a registry setting.?

I know how to set the time limit for it to kick in.

A:Screensaver timing.

Go to control panel>power settings and click "choose when to turn off the display". I think the default value is 20 minutes, so if your screen saver is set to come on at 20 minutes as well, you will only see it for a few seconds.

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Could anyone tell me what ( CL-RCD-RP-RAS ) associated with Memory Timing stand for ? Also the numbers associated to each.
Thank you.
Rick

A:Memory Timing

RAS - Row Address Strobe or Row Address Select
CAS - Column Address Strobe or Column Address Select

tRAS - Active to precharge delay; this is the delay between the precharge and activation of a row

tRCD - RAS to CAS Delay; the time required between RAS and CAS access

tCL - (or CL) CAS Latency

tRP - RAS Precharge; the time required to switch from one row to the next row, for example, switch internal memory banks

tCLK ? ClocK; the length of a clock cycle

Command Rate - the delay between Chip Select (CS), or when an IC is selected and the time commands can be issued to the IC

tRAS
Memory architecture is like a spreadsheet with row upon row and column upon column, with each row being one bank. For the CPU to access memory, it first must determine which row or bank in the memory is to be accessed and then activate that row with the RAS signal. Once activated, the row can be accessed over and over, until the data is exhausted. This is why tRAS has little effect on overall system performance but could impact system stability if set incorrectly.

tRCD
tRCD is the delay from the time a row is activated to when the cell (or column) is activated via the CAS signal and data can be written to or read from a memory cell. When memory is accessed sequentially, the row is already active and tRCD will not have much impact. However, if memory is not accessed in a linear fashion, the current active row must be deactivated and then a new row selected/activated. In such an example, low tRCD's can improve performance. However, like any other memory timing, putting this too low for the module can cause in instability.

CAS Latency
Certainly, one of the most important timings is the CAS Latency, which is also the one most people understand. Since data is often accessed sequentially (same row), the CPU need only select the next column in the row to get the next piece of data. In other words, CAS Latency is the delay between the CAS signal and the availability of valid data on the data pins (DQ). The latency between column accesses (CAS) then plays an important role in the performance of the memory. The lower the latency, the better the performance. However, the memory modules must be able to support low-latency settings.

tRP
tRP is the time required to terminate one row access and begin the next row access. tRP might also be seen as the delay required between deactivating the current row and selecting the next row. So in conjunction with tRCD, the time required (or clock cycles required) to switch banks (or rows) and select the next cell for reading, writing, or refreshing is a combination of tRP and tRCD.

tRAS
tRAS is the time required before (or delay needed) between the active and precharge commands. In other words, how long the memory must wait before the next memory access can begin.

tCLK
This is simply the clock used for the memory. Note that because frequency is 1/t, if memory were running at 100Mhz, the timing of the memory would be 1/100Mhz, or 10nS.

Command Rate
The Command Rate is the time needed between the chip select signal and when commands can be issued to the RAM module IC. Typically, these are either 1 clock or 2.

Latency - The time from when a request is made to when it is answered; the total time required before data can be written to or read from the memory.

This problem also occurs on the iPhone which is also wireless. So I have to restart the wireless every time in order to get everything back on. I did a bit of research and figured out that its a DNS issue. I ran 'cmd' then 'nslookup google.com' when the internet stopped and I get dns timed out message. I was wondering how do I stop the DNS from timing out on my router?

PS - in order to change settings on this router does it have to be wired or can i just do it wirelessly?

A:Internet Timing Out?.......

I doubt it's the ISP.

I recommend you install TJ Ping and run a Trace to some web server on the Internet. (Do this while the Internet is working.) The first IP address will be your local router's IP address (which is your computer's default gateway) and the second will be your router's default gateway, the first point of connection to the Internet at your ISP. You should also see a series of various other IP addresses and return times after those two entries, ending eventually in the web site you ran the trace to.

Now wait until the Internet connection goes away again. While the connection has failed, run the same trace again.
If you get a timed out error on the first IP address then your router is bad or the wireless connection has problems. If the wireless connection has problems then install Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and post a screenshot of the network list.
If the time out is on the second one then it is likely the router is bad, or perhaps the modem is failing, or the ISP connection is failing. Try rebooting only the router, and if that doesn't fix it try rebooting only the modem. If rebooting the router doesn't fix it then it's either the modem or the ISP connection and you should talk to them about it.
If the time out happens at any entry after the second line then it's most likely not the router nor the modem nor the ISP connection, it's possibly something in the ISP's other equipment. I doubt this will be the case though since you've said rebooting your router and modem fixes it temporarily.

I am trying to purchase some more memory to improve gaming on my PC. In looking at 1 GB memory modules, I see something referred to as latency timing. Numbers like 3.4.4.8 and 2.3.3.6 are mentioned but I can't figure out what they mean or if they are even important to me. I am kicking my system up from its current 748 Mb of DDR and was planning on going with 2 - 1GB modules and leaving in the 512 that is part of the current configuration. So many choices.. so little knowledge.

Thanks one and all.
