I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Might pay to see what AMD's big announcement is on the 25th September. Best case scenario is AMD bite the bullet and opt for a big die to put some pressure on the GTX 780/ Titan, although I'm picking that what they end up with might split the difference between the 7970GE and the GTX 780 performance wise.
Either way, unless it is strictly a PPS presentation, AMD should be announcing some kind of timetable. If that launch is close at hand you could see a nice realignment pricewise if the products look compelling and present sales start to stall out, with the added bonus that AMD would again drop prices to clear inventory.

If you're set on getting a card before then, I'd check the pricing on GTX 670's as well as 760's. You'll get a little more performance with the 670 especially if its an overclocked card (basically a GTX 680 once you hit that cards clock). If not, then the 7950 is, likewise, a solid option in the £180-200 range.

Hi all.

I am currently saving to build a new computer. Originally i was planning on getting two Radeon 5770's using the Corsair HX650W power supply. But now i am thinking about getting just one 5850 for now, and then getting another 5850 and running 2 in crossfire in the future.

My question is very simple. Will the Corsair HX650W Power Supply be enough to power 2 radeon 5850's?

I am also planning on getting an AMD Phenom II x4 955 CPU, 4GB of DDR3 1600 memory and 1, 1TB hard drive.

So thats pretty much it really. Should the HX650W be sufficient for this setup?

Cheers.

A:Corsair HX650W PSU enough for Radeon HD5850's in Crossfire?

You should be fine. AMD's recommendation is a 600w PSU for that setup. That recommendation is based on the fact that not all PSU's are created equal, so they err on the side of caution just in case some people use an "off-brand" <70% efficency unit.
Dual HD 5850's will generally use a maximum of 300w, so unless you are planning on a very substantial overclock of both cards and CPU, you should be fine as the Corsair is a very good quality PSU.

Corsair TX 850

AMD HD5850 and now HD6970(NEW)
Intel i5
Windows 7 x64 Home
4gb mem
Pc is 2 and a half year old now, the HD6970 i recieved today.
When using MSI afterburner idle temp is 55c (NEW), 49(OLD).

I'm getting bsod with error message in the lines of "could not restart display driver etc" both cards. Sometimes the screen freezes up and the bsod doesn't arrive only a remark bubble by the clock about restarting display driver.
Have used different drivers with the old one, and reinstalled windows during that time as well.
I am planning on buying an upgrade pack with mobo, mem and cpu. But i was wondering if the problem might lie with the psu? And how do i check that?

A:BSOD Restart Display Driver (For Hd5850 and HD 6970, no crossfire)

Quote:
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

I'd get a more powerful psu like this one

Just built this rig and took the 7850 with me into the new setup. Its not a dire need to have a bettter graphics card since my system seems to have no problems with most games on max settings. Planetside2, Path of Exile, being the two that have i have struggled with.

So do i crossfire and if so with what, or do i start OC the graphics card, or do i purchase another one.
My budget is around 250.

A:Crossfire or Upgrade 7850

If you want to go crossfire it has to be the same series card.

Personally, with an i5, I would upgrade to an nvidia card, a 960 or a 970.

EVGA - Products - Graphics - GeForce 900 Series Family - GTX 970

EVGA - Products - Graphics - GeForce 900 Series Family - GTX 960

Then start saving to get another

Hi, my computer recently started telling me that the C:/windows/temp file was corrupt and I should run "chkdsk". I've done that, but it's corrupted some of my files. I've ran Webroot Security and RegCure Registry, but they don't solve the issue. Please let me know what to do to remove this virus! One clue: WRconsumerservice.exe takes up 98% CPU Processes when the computer is sluggish.

Thanks!
Preston

A:I've got the itch: Is it a virus?

Hi and Welcome to BleepingComputer, I would start out by doing a scan with Malwarebytes...It can be downloaded from any of these places...http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.phpalternate download link 1 (easiest way)http://malwarebytes.gt500.org/mbam-setup.exealternate download link 2http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Ant...ware_d5756.htmlDouble-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. (If it will not download, install, or open after installation, change the name of it to whatever you want and change the .exe extension to .bat or .com or .pif or scr and then double click on it to run.)When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found". Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process. After running that scan, post the complete log of the results here and then download, install, update and run a quick scan with SuperAntiSpyware and post the complete log of the results here. This scan may take some time to complete so please be patient. That can be downloaded from SuperAntiSpyware.comIf it will not download, install, or open after installation, change the name of it to whatever you want and change the .exe extension to .bat or .com or .pif or scr and then double click on it to run.If possible, both programs should be run in regular Windows, not safe mode. Allow both programs to remove whatever they find and if they tell you that you need to reboot your computer to complete the removal process, reboot into normal Windows.

A:The dreaded long slow road itch...darn it.

Hi...me again. I did the long, drawn out HiJackThis/ComboFix/Dr.Web tango and got rid of the dang thing, but then I found a message on another site from a woman named Shari, who says all you have to do is visit http://cidhelp.com to get the folks at the source to help you remove it. Sheesh.

Her comments are here:

http://www.proteacher.net/discussions/showthread.php?t=41862

I started to go to the site, but my Zonealarm software warned me not to go there as it is "a site that is high risk and known to distribute spyware". No kidding. So I didn't go there.

Now, I don't know if I was doing battle with more than one spyware problem, so maybe I needed the long procedure I followed anyway.

But it's another resource for those who are tearing their hair out trying to get rid of the d*mn thing.

Good luck!

Q: HD5850

Hi guys So I got my boss that HD as referred to in one of my previous posts thanks pizzaman It works phenonomally well There is a problem though In Modern warfare COD it lags in one of the scenes goes down to FPS where the air strike is placed on that town in the middle east in Act and the dust cloud comes up This is quite strange - latest Catalyst drivers my Nvidia GTX 's dont have a problem with this scene not dropping below FPS whereas this new is hitting FPS where it normally has an average of - for all the other scenes Is this something to do with the PhysX GPU acceleration that Nvidia has or is it that ATI needs to update and optimise their drivers - This shouldnt be HD5850 the case as the renders better than a GTX any ideas Both systems have all the graphics details maxed out - with both enabling V-sync HD5850 or sync every frame - have tried both without System Specs Intel Q stock Ghz GB DDR Mhz Windows x bit Asus motherboard - cant remember which one mid HD5850 range Asus ATI HD TB Western Digital HDD watt Corsair PSU

A:HD5850

hm.... did he enable the stuff in the 3d section of the ccc? i discovered that if you do that then it adds to the graphics on top of what the game does and it will drastically cause the fps to drop because of the extra eye candy

Hei.
My question is if an ATI xfx hd5850 black edition and ATI radeon hd5850 can be in cross-fire with each other?
Both are 1gb memory.

Also will cross-fire with those two cards increase performance noticeably or is it possible to add a larger gpu to cross-fire with ati radeon hd5850?
If so any recommendations for what card to add for up to $100?

Thanks for any advice

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P

A:SLI with different hd5850 gpu cards

It's usually difficult to say whether 2 cards will crossfire unless they are exactly the same cards. If it did work then your PSU would be OK to run them. If it was me then I'd aim to sell your existing card and then look for a better card with this money + $100. If you made $50 on the old card then you could buy an R9 270 which would be a step up. Going 2nd hand then you might be able to score an R9 280. Both these cards would run fine with your PSU. Going for a better card than this probably wouldn't be worth it as your CPU would become the weak link.

Rumored pictures have popped up of ATI's DX11 Radeon HD 5850, or at least a variant of it. From what we can see, there's an incredibly long PCB for a single-GPU accelerator, an elaborate monolithic cooler, and a single 6-pin power connector.

A:HD5850 - 15 BSODs in 2 days!

Hi Welcome to TSF and thank you

As for your current situation there are few things I can recommend

First and for most Update Windows
Update Drivers

Now once that said.. you mentioned that after you removed your GPU everything seems to be smooth so that makes me think that your power supply is at fault here

You have a very underpowered and low quality power supply
I would def replace it

Hello, I was wondering if my current power supply would power my card I am ordering in a few days?

The card is a Sapphire HD5850 and it's PSU requirements are 500 watt power supply, but my current PSU is only 450 watt.

My PSU has 80-85% efficiency and the brand is BFG if that makes any difference.

I'm finding that now that I've got two of them running in crossfire the XFX card I have with the reference ATI cooler is running hot. After last gaming session MSI Afterburner reported 87C max temp. So I've been playing with the idea of selling it and getting another MSI card which comes with a very good cooler, or just buying a cooler (which would probably cost around the same as selling the XFX card and putting money toward a new MSI one).

Anyone got any experience? Any recommended coolers? Tips for installation?

Thanks.

A:Anyone tried replacement cooler for HD5850?

Hi Arris,
This cooler is very good if you want to go the replacement route. I Don't know about prices in Scotland, but here the prices on the 58xx series are very good, and as good as they are probably going to get. as far as installation tips. more GPU's get damaged because people pull straight up when they remove the heat-sink. When you are ready to remove it, gently twist it back and forth keeping it on center until you break the (now very set) thermal compound loose. Be very sparing on the thermal compound as well. it does not take much to cover the small chip.
hope that helps some.

I am trying to install a new ATI HD5850 into my wife's computer to upgrade to win10. She has a x1950 in there right now. Abit AN9 32x board with 4gb ram and a AM2 Athalon 64 CPU and a 500w power supply. I installed the new card and every time I try to boot, it gets stuck at the C1 post and won't go any further. If I unplug the power cords from video card, the same thing happens. Plug the old card in, with power plugs off, the computer will go past the C1 post until it gets to the video check and gives the beeps, so I know it's not the power supply. Is this motherboard not compatible with this new video card? Is there a work around? Just trying to upgrade to 10 right now, then about 6 months to a year, will build a new rig for her.

Any help appreciated.

A:Help! ASRock N68C-S UCC & Radeon HD5850

Yes it is compatible with your mobo. I did some googling and it seems your mobo has a PCI E x16 and that's what the Graphics card needs. Just a side note, you would need a 500W power supply or greater to be able to use this Graphics card.

Just wanted to share this as anybody with the same card might want to try it. Got bored of manually overclocking my XFX HD 5850, wanted a permanent stable overclock. I flashed to the XFX HD5870 bios and it works perfect! Low temps and a massive jump in performance! Crysis runs about 10 fps faster than before and in benchmarks I am scoring alongside the genuine HD 5870's

My HD 5850 now gets 7.8 in windows 7 wei

Very happy with this new bios my card is running much better than before lol, Highly recommend any HD 5850 user to flash as your basically getting HD 5870 performance without having to pay the extra...

These are my specs for my gaming rig right now Gigabyte GAEP -DS L S L motherboard EVGA Geforce GB Corsair DDR GB Ram Intel Core Duo Raidmax RX- SS Quantum W PSU modular Netgear PCI network adapter After seeing the requirements for a few more modern games I m thinking that it might be time for an upgrade If I were Upgrade? A:Time for an Upgrade?

I would go with #3.

I have a quad-core Q9650 with a NVIDIA GTX 250 and 6GB of DDR2-1066, and I cant play a lot of games at the resolutions I want.

Get a i7-2600k! I just recently built one for a customer:

-Core i72600K Processor
-12GB DOMINATOR 2000MHz C9 DDR3
-LG 12x Blu-Ray Writer SATA Black
-Geforce GTX550TI 1GB PCIe2
-Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
-ASUS P8P67 Deluxe Motherboard

-(2) 1.5TB SATA 6/Gb/s 7200RPM 64MB
-Velociraptor 600GB SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" HD

It is soooo freaking fast! The only thing, I should have put a GTX580!

Hello. I am new to the forum. I am having conflicting information on this so please help try to steer me in the proper direction. I am presently running Windows 7 as my main OS. I have a Windows 8 Pro disk I had bought a few months ago. I am told it is always better to do a clean install instead of a in place upgrade. Although I did a compatibility check with all of my applications and hardware, and they came out ok for Windows 8, I am still a little skiddish about doing a in place upgrade over Windows 7. Do you think I would have driver issues or other problems doing this our should I even bother doing a upgrade? Thanks in advance for any replies. Michael

A:Upgrade Time?

Hello Michael

Welcome to windows Eight Forums ...
Be sure to back up your data before you proceed either with an in-place upgrade or clean install.

Be sure to thank Shawn for the work done on the following tutorials:

I am thinking that a new cpu (one that is compatible with my Mobo) is a good idea can anyone tell what I should get. My Socket is an 775 socket I believe correct me if I am wrong though.

A:Time to upgrade?

Unfortunately, you have a similar problem to what I had when I wanted to upgrade my motherboard. Your motherboard only supports the older Core 2 CPUs, which you can't easily find for sale new anymore or at decent prices. Your best bet would be looking on eBay and getting either a Core 2 Duo E6700 or Core 2 Quad Q6600 but if you can find these new, then you've got it made. Also ensure you update your BIOS before upgrading.

It is strictly a matter of money. How much is in your budget, and where you are willing to make compromises. Ten of the 86 motherboard manufacturers make excellent stuff.
Read the reviews, particularly those at www.tomshardware.com and www.anandtech.com.
Be wary of ASUS unless you are an experienced user, as their tech support has changed... but be wary of all, as there seem to be a lot of problems these days with any new board... Don't get something that is just out, but rather something that has been out six months or more and has good postings.
Look at graphics cards posts here, as there is incredible knowledge on techspot for such info.
There are also excellent magzines on the racks at supermarkets and book stores regarding building a PC... by CPU, MaximumPC, and others that are very helpful.
Then come back here with your top three choices and let us pick on you.

Hi everyone .

I'm currently running the Asus DirectCU GTX460 TOP, don't get me wrong I love this card,
but it's starting to show its age when it comes to 1200p performance.
I'm currently looking into an nVidia based GPU with the main feature in mind being low noise levels,
I can't stress how important it is to me.
I was looking around and I though that if I'm already buying a new GPU I might as well look at the top tier
I was thinking about the difference between the GTX780 & GTX780Ti do you guys have any thoughts
about it (the price premium is significant)?

My main two brands I was looking for are Asus and Gigabyte as the heatsinks of those two
suppose to be the quietest.

I'm not entirely against considering an AMD by no means but might need a little bit of convincing .
Any thoughts will be appreciated .

A:GPU upgrade time!

if you are going AMD, i say the R9 290. i would say the 780Ti if budget allows.

And upping the RAM to 3GB, since you're using XP.

Hi all

At the moment i have:

Motherboard: Asus A8N SLI Premium

Graphics: Gainward 7900GT 512mb (2 of them in SLI)

Sound: Creative Sound Balster

Ram: 2 gig Kingston HyperX (although i have 4 gig and want to use it all)

Running XP Pro (although i have Vista Premium 64bit)

All in a lovely black Antec P180 case.

Now here is my dilema.

I tried running Vist with 4 gig of ram but SLI would not work and the sound was awfull. So i went back to XP.

I just fried my HDD so its time to upgrade.

I want to keep the motherboard and ram.

Replace the graphics and sound and it has to run Vista 64bit.

My question is:

What graphics and sound cards should i put in?

I have about £400

Or should i just sell all and buy a computer that has all i want?

Thanks all

Here's something I need help with. I'm gonna be upgrading the RAM on my laptop, but i need some help.
1. Does anyone use memorygiant.com and is it a good, relaible site.
2. Does anyone use newegg.com and is it a good, reliable site
3. On memory giant, it says that the memory for my computer (Compaq Presario 3000), has a specific ram stick designed for it, all other won't work. Newegg has RAM sticks designed by companies like corsair. Is that warning real, or will RAM like corsair's work on my laptop.
4. How many RAM pins does my laptop have
5. Is RAM resistant to fire?
6. If so, how much fire?
7. I wasn't serious about 5 and 6.

Anyone's help would be appreciated greatly.

A:Time to upgrade the ol' RAM

Before going to a site that sells RAM i would first spend some time at the laptop manuf. site and find out as much as you can about your machine in regards to RAM. There's lots of info to consider: how much will it support: what type, speed, etc.
A lot of manuf. also have forums so search for those as well you can find out alot from others who might have the same model etc.
Then after that it's time to go shopping. I've had good experiences with newegg, i think you will find they are one of the higher rated vendors on the web.

patio.

I have a failing CPU fan so it?s time for an upgrade, existing is:

Asus M2N-SLI motherboard with AM2 socket
Processor AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 5800+ 3.00 Ghz
4.00 GB memory
64-Bit Windows 7

I wish to change the CPU and memory while I have the case open.

A:Upgrade time - I have...

Hello Enddoc, Welcome to SF

This is the only board i could find ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe
That board only supports DDR2 memory so think your gonna find more memory quite expensive compared to newer DDR3 and it only supports 8GB max although for general computing 4GB is usualy adequate
That mobo supports socket AM2+ so you have options it all depends on your budget, have you considered a new mobo & chip

What are your man uses for the machine and where do you feel it is lacking ?

I bought a Gateway Computer a little over a year ago just after the Intel Dual Core and AMD X2 processors hit the market and I got a SWEET deal on this computer but now I am looking around to put a new Motherboard and CPU into the computer.

My question is this: how upgrade friendly are the newer Gateway computers? Can I install a new MB and CPU without a huge headache? Please see below for configuration.

Gateway GT4010.
AMD Athalon 3500+ Processor.
1 Meg of PC 400 RAM running in Dual Channel configuration.
200 Gig PIO Mode 4 7200 RPM EIDE Hard Drive.
NVidia OnBoard, Shared Graphics 128 Meg
OnBoard 5.1 Sound.
OS: Windows XP Pro Media Center.

Thanks!

A:Upgrade Time

Hey Dave,

The only show stopper on an OEM pc upgrade is the case - especially with Dells. I have little experience with Gateway PC's since there aren't many over here. But I'll have a look around for the cases layout if you like.

When upgrading it's well worth doing some serious research first.

Don't buy a cheap motherboard. They sound great but you get what you pay for. I've known instances where an expensive graphics card won't even the slot because it clashes with (old) electronic components on the board.

What are you upgrading for? Let us know and I'm sure we can throw some suggestions you way.

Happy holiday's!

Time For the Crucial scan says I have PC - and Crucial recommends I purchase PC - Can someone explain what all this means to me I am into photography and my main application is Lightroom with Photoshop CS for more advanced edits I would prefer to upgrade my entire system to something built around a Intel Core i processor and GB of DDR ram Maybe next year but not now cost is Time For A Upgrade? just out of reach I can purchase the Crucial recommended ram two sets for a total of GB at Amazon for How can I be sure I am spending my money wisely How can I test to see if my computer is slow because of a lack of ram Any advice would be appreciated Floyd

A:Time For A Upgrade?

Would you buy oats for a dead horse?

I'm guessing no.

Similarly, I wouldn't upgrade that PC if I could help it.

As you see, the old DDR2 RAM is more expensive than current DDR3 RAM. You can't use DDR2 RAM in a Core i7 or i5 or anything similar.

You can buy 16 GB of high quality DDR3 for maybe $100.

You can find out if you are using all of your RAM by looking at Resource Monitor on the memory tab. It looks like you now have 8 GB. No point in getting more if you aren't using all of the 8--even if it were cheap.

Your processor is 5 or 6 year old technology at best. A strong horse.......in its day.

In what way is the PC "slow" and is that a new development? Slow at what?

I'm not sure whether to upgrade my whole computer. or just the video card. This is what I have now, that I am interested in upgrading:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ EE
Mushkin EM PC2-6400 2X1GB
XFX NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS 256MB
Western Digital SE 250GB 16MB

Should I just upgrade my video card, and possibly buy another HDD? Or, get a whole new computer? I'm kind of on a limited budget (I owe my parents a lot of money, and I'm a student).

Hey, im lookin for a new graphics card, my ATI Radeon 9200 128mb card is kinda out of place on my;

AMD Athlon XP 3000+
512 RAM
120Gig HDD
250 Watt PSU (wel thats bad aint it)
DVD-RW/CR-RW 16X

So...im not looking for somethin that will run everythin till 2010 but somethin that will at least let my play HL2 Doom 3 and far cry failrly good looking.

I only have about £85 to spend, so i want the best £85 card i can get.

and can any one reccomend any sites that are classed as the "best" sites for buying computer stuff (especially graphics cards )

Thanks....

A:Upgrade Time

I'd say Radeon 9600 XT could fit that budget. Check TechSpot's Pricewatch, 85 pounds is about 150 US dollars now.

Hello Folks Well I'm thinking of going further into debt and doing a major upgrade Initially this thought was prompted Upgrade Please Advice Time! by the release of Lynnfield i However the more I look at it it seems that I might as well go for an i The upgrade path from i isn't Upgrade Time! Advice Please clear and I would still have to get a new mobo and RAM This works out quite expensive and for not much more I can get an OCd bundle of i at or Ghz plus Gigabyte EX UD plus a new cooler This seems a better deal to me and I believe that the Westmere chip will use LGA Anyone know if this is true So this is what I'm considering OVERCLOCKED Intel Core i D Stepping SLBEJ Ghz GHz Max Gigabyte EX -UD Intel X Motherboard Corsair XMS GB PC - C DDR Corsair H Bundle or OVERCLOCKED Intel Core i D Stepping SLBEJ Ghz GHz Max Gigabyte EX -UD Intel X Motherboard Patriot Viper GB DDR PC - C MHz DDR Bundle This second bundle comes with a Noctua NH-U P SE HSF and both bundles can be seen here Systems PCs amp Bundles Overclocked Bundles - Overclockers UK The first with the mini water cooler H is cheaper Other than that and the RAM there's not much difference I don't know much about Patriot RAM but it has a good rep So assuming I go for one or other it seems to be down to the cooler I've combed various forums and got completely different viewpoints on the H cooler It draws cool air across the radiator into the case but I'm using a Cosmos S with three mm exhausts at the top so hopefully this would draw the heat out The Noctua of course is quite well rated but some reviews put the H as better than any standard air cooler though not as good as proper water cooling So I'd welcome comments on my decision to give i a miss and any advice regarding which of these bundles to choose would be most helpful particularly regarding the two different cooling systems Thanks for your time John

Hey gang 4TB, to RAID? Upgrade 2TB time go to from or I'm a creative professional and music producer My current setup on Windows involves a GB SSD for C and then I have a Upgrade from 2TB to 4TB, or time to go RAID? WD Black Caviar TB which is split in two equal partitions TB for Design Arts TB for Music Studio and finally a small GB drive which I use as Adobe scratch disk The issue I'm about to face is that my TB drive now has less than GB free so I'm going to soon run out of space Currently I mirror this TB drive to an external TB WD Passport so that I always have a backup and a portable version of the projects that I can take with me This has worked beautifully up to now So my first instinct is to replace my current TB with a WD Black TB or leave the TB there in addition to the new TB This way I should be good for a while also seems like this is probably the top performing RPM drive for creative workstations at the moment However I know there is such a thing as RAID Particularly I think RAID- Would it be better for me to scrap my configuration of drive for C drive for projects and recording drive for Adobe scratch and instead setup a RAID for projects and recording If so what does it imply I wasn't looking to spend much more than the cost of the TB so if I would have to buy of those its probably off the table Also if RAID- only provides a solution in case of HD failure well I already own external drives that I can use for backups Any advice suggestions would be immensely appreciated

A:Upgrade from 2TB to 4TB, or time to go RAID?

It is important to understand what RAID is, and what it is not.
The purpose of RAID 1 is to maintain access to your data in the event of a drive failure. Drive replacement can then be deferred to a more convenient time. This is a big deal on a busy server, not so much on a workstation. Of course there are exceptions. If that is your reason for using RAID 1, then great. The downside to RAID 1 is cost. You need 2 drives to provide the storage capacity of 1.

But no form of RAID ever devised is a replacement for maintaining regular backups. It only offers protection from drive failures and even that cannot be relied on. For all other causes of data loss it offers no protection whatsoever. All files of any importance need at least one backup copy, 2 or more backup copies for files of particular importance. Having no backups is asking for trouble. Data recovery cannot be relied on.

RAID 0 is different in that it provides no redundancy at all. It's purpose is increased performance but under real world conditions this is often rather modest. The downside is that if 1 drive fails you loose all data. Maintaining regular backups is even more important.

There are other forms of RAID but they require 3 or more physical drives.

Umm a 7900GT, a SLI motherboard if you want to do SLI in the future, and a E6400 or E6500 core 2 duo.

I have a 8570W with ordiginal 4Gb 1.5V ram. I have just update my 8570w with 4Gb more ( the micron tech 4Gb 1.35V). Now may laptop is still working fine but i wonder in long time working ( future): is there any danger to my systerm when i use 2 rams with 2 different voltage like this ?Thank you for your answear Those pics show my systerm

A:[Upgrade 8570w] Run 1.5V ram and 1.35V ram at the same time ...

Since the BIOS is already set to supply 1.5v to the memory modules, you are overvolting the micron tech 4Gb 1.35V module. That is one reason to always replace the original module with a pair of identical, guaranteed compatible memory modules. Sometimes upgrading the installed memory the way you did provides frustration because either one module is not recognized as present by the OS or BIOS. In the worst case scenarion, does not allow the notebook to boot up into Windows. That is likely not to be great for the module in the long term.  I do notice that the modules are working in Dual-Channel mode, so you got lucky there.

Hi I wonder if someone can help me I have a memory (as in brain not computer) problem and am confused.

I brought a laptop with vista home but used anytime upgrade to make it ultimate. So when I do a clean install on the computer how do I make sure I install ultimate? Does the licence code now allow me to install ultimate? So do I just install ultimate from an anytime upgrade disk and out in the original licence code?

I'm confused please help :)

A:[SOLVED] Any time upgrade

You need to use the new Product Key code that you got with the Anytime Upgrade disk. It's the Product Key that determines which version gets installed.

If you're going the 2500K route, make sure you pick a gen3 Z68 board. If the ivy temps either get fixed, or turn out to be a non-issue, you can always drop in an ivy chip later on.

I've had good results with my board and others have had good luck (eventually) with boards in the same Z68 range. The Pro is a sweet spot.

A:[Upgrade] Time for some new parts.

There is no system that will run bf3 perfectly on ultra.
It runs fine on high on my own system which is terribly outdated. (minus a somewhat recently upgraded graphics card)

I have never heard of something 'requiring overclocking' such a thing would be absolutely ridiculous.

Some things that might be useful in getting suggestions though.
What is more important for your hard drives, speed or storage space?
My honest opinion is you should just keep the ram you have for now, or just replace with 8 gigs of the same.
Your biggest hold up is you are using a 32inch display.
This is going to make graphics all the more picky.
I personally have access to a 42inch display but actually use my little 24 inch asus as it seems to render cleaner.

Hey guys

i few months back I got a ATI 4890 OC, love it. I play BC2 on it all on high setting, crysis on high settings as well and it runs smooth. since then i have seen the flood of videos cards that came out in the market, the ATI 5000 series and now I think ATI 6000 series. I've checked the reviews and see that they of course are more powerfull, but with todays game standards the 4890 works just fine, i dont mind upgrading for better graphics but to the naked eye is it really worth it upgrading right now?

I love excellent high quality graphics but i would hate to spend a few hundred dollars and get the same image quality. unless im wrong games aren't demanding stronger graphics cards right now, maybe crysis 2 but thats long times away?

I took previous advice in this forum and finally gave up on the ugrade route and did a clean install. i took the pain (despite backups) of reinstalling everything and yes, agree that it would have saved time and effort if I'd done this first off.

Which leads me to wonder, depite the tutorials and advice given here, whether anyone has managed a first time, no glitches, smooth and easy upgrade? It looks like the easy option (especially for a naive user) but it is not - at least in my reasonable years of experience dealing with operating systems.

And yes, I should have known better.

Hi, and excuse me if my english is abit scruppy.

I have a problem with my ATI card that I just can't how to fix. I've googled for God knows how many hours without results that works for me. The problem is whenever Im gaming (it's the only way the GPU gets proper load) the screen freezes, turns black and usually exits the game. I get the message that "Display driver has stopped working and has been succsessfully recovered."
It's kinda annoying because I can't play a single game for more than 10-30 minutes without problems or crashing.

My OS is Windows 7 x64.

ASUS P7P55D
Intel i5
Asus HD5850
Corsair XMS3 CL9 2x2 GB
Chieftec Super Series 650W

I've tried:
-Setting the clockspeed on my GPU 20mhz down
-Using only one memorybrick
-Different catalyst drivers from 9.something to 10.1
-Drivercleanup
-Formating

None of these has been giving me any results at all.. Please help me.

Hi CptZiggy. Welcome to SevenForums.

Have you considered the possibility that your Card may be overheating?

Here is an ATI Tool which will allow you to monitor your Temp and fan speeds.

ATITool - Overclocking utility for ATI and NVIDIA cards

You may find that inadequate cooling may be the cause of your problem.

Hope this helps.

I'd like some opinions on when to upgrade video cards. I have a Leadtek Ti500 and thought I had a keeper for at least a year but it seems the Geforce4 has really passed the Ti500 by. I'd have no problem with an upgrade now but talk has it that bigger and better is coming in the fall and I don't want to upgrade every 6 months. Any input would be welcome.

A:Correct time for vid card upgrade?

well, i would start off by reading this thread: http://www.3dspotlight.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=395

then you really have to think about spending 400.00 on something that will be replaced in September. I think your card is fine and unless you want to run your games in 4X AA at 1280x1024 all day long I wouldnt upgrade to the GF4.

I have a regular GF3 and I think Im going to wait till the fall when the updated version of the GF4 comes out. I really want a Geforce card that makes use of 3DFX's Anti Aliasing technology.

It?s Time to Upgrade to Version 6.0 of the PayPal App

For Windows Phone users, we will sunset the current version of the PayPal app on June 30. However, Windows Phone users can still access PayPal through our mobile web experience on Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge browsers. Outlook.com users can also use the PayPal add-in to send money directly from their inbox.

A:Itís Time to Upgrade to Version 6.0 of the PayPal App

I have been using PayPal 4 years ago. before the existence of Windows 8 and 10.

I supposed I am using the one I installed online.
Any practical reason I need to switch to the one from Windows Store ?

Hey folks!

I recently went through an ordeal with my AMD 8120 fx chip and have since been sent a replacement. However, the replacement is an 8350. A nice upgrade, but not currently compatible with my mobo as far as I can tell.

My components:

AMD 8350FX
Gigabyte GA970A-D3 rev.1.1
16gigs gskill ripjaw (4x4)
AMD R7 260x
700w psu
siedon 120m liquid cooler

I am getting some bad heat when playing graphics intensive games and downloading large files. After doing some research I found out that my revision does not have a MOS_HS heat sink. I have called and complained to tech support at gigabyte, but have yet to receive a reply on whether they will provide a heat sink.

Is it worth trying to fix? Should I just get a mobo with a 990 chipset? what brand?
I would truly appreciate any responses, thank you.

Right now i have integrated graphics from ATI. Now that was fine for older games but it just isnt cutting it for counter-strike and F.E.A.R. I have a Pci-express slot and my budget is around 100 bucks. Also, does my integrated graphics being ATi mean that i can only upgrade to an ATI based card? or can i get nvidia? thanks for the help...

A:time for a video card upgrade...

Do you know if you have a pci-e x1 or a pci-e x 16 slot? X16 is used for graphics and x1 is used for add in cards, but some systems only have x1 slots, and can't have upgraded graphics. Assuming you do have a x16 slot, a nvidia 6600, or ati x800gt or x1300pro, should all suit you pretty well.

You can use ati or nvidia cards.

I use Windows Office 2002. Is there any reason to upgrade to the newest version? Any advantage at all? Thanks.

A:Office 2002. Time To Upgrade?

Unless you plan to do a lot of collaborative effort at work, there is very little value-added functionality in any of the versions past 2002.
Cheers,

Neither card is worth getting. Get a Radeon HD 5750. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102859 Supports DX11, greater performance than the 9800 GTX+, same price. For greater warranty: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150448 2 years is still a long time for PC hardware though. It's totally up to you. 10 $ isn't that much though.

After that, you'll need to post exact specs. Motherboard model, model of the RAM you currently have, as well as if it's 2x1 or 1x2 GB, model of power supply...

Hi Guy's I have a Win laptop and a Win desktop I like a lot of what I've read about Win although not all But I was hoping that the laptop would be offered it first It's a refurb That I only recently bought My intention was to install slide shows of my art work and use it to show potential customers Anyway I was hoping to install Win on that and put it through it's paces That way I could decide before upgrading my main PC Unfotunately it hasn't worked out that way Yesterday Win downloaded to my desktop PC It said click here to upgrade I was panicing and got a tad twitchy But was pacified when but wants I now! upgrade to 'Win10' to it time need decide, it went on to say - Expect a second prep of your device - Review the licence agreement - Choose when to upgrade Phew it was number 'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now! that made me relax Remembering I'd read you can wait for almost a year before 'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now! making up your mind So I pressed the 'OK let's continue' button Did then now I'm faced with no problem I thought but hereby lies the rub Choose a date and time when you want to install the upgrade These are the choices I get HELP

A:'Win10' I need time to decide, but it wants to upgrade now!

Hi Graphicool1 I'm pretty sure you can just close the window and it'll wait until you launch the process manually to upgrade.

Can anyone tell me what the average load temps should be on current gen GPUs I have a brand new computer with an ATI HD stock speed non-OC'ed and while playing Crysis demo on max settings it gets up to about - C which I feel "High"? HD5850 What ATI Is Considered Temperatures? is normal However after playing the Sniper Ghost Warrior demo for awhile earlier at x and maxed settings I exited out after about minutes of play and noticed once exited my GPUs temp was at C and the fan speed was only at never seemed to go any higher than that Is C too hot I've never had a GPU in the past get THAT hot but ATI HD5850 Temperatures? Also, the average room temperature stays around 25C (give/take a few degrees).

I purchased my husband's laptop just before Win 7 was released and received a Win 7 upgrade disk a few months later but decided he was happy and I did not want to "rock the boat" and have to teach him the new system. However, now it is sooo slow, I must do something. I am ready to reformat, but I need to determine if the hardware is adequate. Can you advise me of how to proceed?

A:Upgrade to windows 8, or do a bunch of harware too at same time.

Before upgrading to Windows 8, it is recommend that you run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. It scans your PC to see if it is ready for Windows 8 and then provides a compatibility report and optional steps to buy, download, and install Windows 8. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8

The title pretty much explains it all. I upgraded from Vista to 7 and I noticed my boot up time is very slow. I went ahead and tried the "time your windows 7 boot up" and apparently takes 194 seconds for my computer to boot.

I was thinking maybe if I did a clean install instead of just an upgrade that 7 would work faster but I wanted to know if that would actually be the case before reformatting.

A:Vista to 7 Upgrade--Slow Boot up Time

trust me, do a clean install. i had those problems (even check out my topics i posted in the past about slow boot up times)
here are the reasons to cause boot up times

-antivirus programs (i recomment MSE free and doesnt eat up boot up time)
-upgrading from vista takes all files from vista to 7
-soooo many start up files

so doing a clean install really helps. it helped me.
lucky i paid $90+tax for OEM (which is also a FULL version of windows 7)
