Error getting properties of drives

Q: Error getting properties of drives

Hi,

From yesterday I am facing a strange problem : I am getting a error whenever taking "Properties" of any drive. Right Click to any drive -> properties.

It's showing "The properties for this item are not available".

Please advise.

Preferred Solution: Error getting properties of drives

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Error getting properties of drives

Did you do anything significant just before this happened (downloaded Win Updates, updated drivers, etc)?
Is your system running normally otherwise?
Have you tried running a full malware scan just to make sure you are clean?

We recently got a new Dell desktop with Windows 7 and I discovered today there's no Policies tab in the hardware properties dialog for any of the drives, local or removable. In XP and Vista the path is, Right-click a drive>Properties>Hardware>Properties>Policies. Should it be there or does 7 have a different way of handling it? I'm logged in as administrator and have ownership of one of the removable drives I've been working on. Thanks.

A:I don't see a Policies tab in hardware properties for any drives

I don't see that tab in Windows 8 either, if that helps.

Hey.

When I start up my PC everything goes very slowly, things "chops" or lagged as most say.

It comes up a menu that says:

Detecting drives; Done, No Drives Found.

-

Have tried most but I find no solutions to this problem, if there is anyone who knows anything about this or can help me, please comment on what I should do.

Thank you!

When I get into the desktop, everything quickly, and I have no problems there ..

What could it be?

A:Detecting drives; Done, No Drives Found - Error and Slow startup

That message would indicate that you have an add on card installed inside your desktop PC that adds SATA ports.

Do you?

Mind you, without your System Specs I am just stabbing in the dark.

when i open my display properties, i don't see any tabs at the top..how could this be?

A:Display Properties Error

Run this program:

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_securityconsole.htm

Look under the display options and uncheck all the things that are checked. If they are not checked, "toggle" them (that is, check them, close the program, open the program, uncheck them, and then close the program).

If this happened out of the blue without your changing any security settings deliberately, you probably have malware. Post a HijackThis log in the Security forum.

Ok here's something that I just noticed on my Win7 Professional machine that I hope someone can explain:My 32-bit machine has a hard drive partitioned into two partitions, one for the OS (73,2GB) and the other for files (159GB).If I view the properties for my OS partition it says that I have 57.2GB used and 15.9GB free. The issue is that when I open that partition and add up all contents from all the folders, I only have a total of 18GB.Why does it state that I have used 57.2GB?I have run Disk Cleanup for both partitions, checked the fragmentation (OK) and have run various spyware, malware & antivirus software and come up clean.Anyone have any ideas why I am getting what seems to be erroneous info on the properties of the OS partition?

I have a problem with opening the Display properties (DP) panel in any way, be that from right click and desktop or control panel etc.

When i select to open the DP panel all i get is the loading sand timer thing for a split second, then it dissappears and leaves me back where i started, nothing loading at all.

I don't think it's a problem with my graphics card because i cannot open the DP panel from a button within the card's setting management software either. (i have a Nivida GeForce FX 5200)

Hi I have a folder of home videos that I 6.41Gb says says folder 2.67Gb, properties properties *.* back up to a USB key with Syncback The key is nearly full and I'm trying to reduce the size of that folder But here's the thing If I folder properties says 2.67Gb, *.* properties says 6.41Gb right-click on my 'Home videos' folder and select 'Properties' it tells me I have files in folders taking Gb However if I open the folder and search for to show all the files then select all right-click 'Properties' it tells me I have files in folders taking Gb Still at the bottom of the Windows Explorer window it says items selected This is the case on both the folder in My Documents on the PC and also the matching folder on the USB key Treesize also shows Gb for both folders In fact as far as I can figure what with everything else on the same USB key there wouldn't even be room for a Gb folder I've tried showing both hidden and system files and folders but there's nothing extra to see Can anyone please explain this anomaly I must be doing something wrong but I can't figure it out

I am using an ASUS G1 laptop with a clean install of Vista Home Premium (now SP1 v.668). I get this error as well. I believe this may be related to a whole slew of other problems I am having, such as the attempt at an installation of SQL Server 2005 Express and configuring IIS7.

I have run around in cirles looking for any sort of resolution for this and have seen no success online for these issues. Other than manually configuring every application I create in InterDev 2003 and 2008, there seems to be no fix for this other than upgrading to Vista Ultimate. Even then, I have not seen 100% resolution in these issues.

Do I have to go back to XP Pro to develop or what? I have UAC turned off, I run everything as administrator and in various compatability modes.

A major issue is one with WebResource.axd which always comes back with the declaration of "not registered". What information can I give that could help other investigate this more thoroughly than I have?

Hi there,

I was trying to change a mp3 file properties > details, but it won't let me. There is nothing listed.

When looking in explorer, it shows no album information or title.

It does it with video files as well, so I am assuming all properties.

When I do change something from the bottom, it gives me error 0x80004005: Unspecified error.

'An unexpected error is keeping you from applying properties to the file'

I used to be able to, so not sure what happened!

MediaMonkey can see the details, but every file on the computer, I can't see the details in explorer?

Do I have to register some .dll? Regserv32 of some sort?

A:Can't change any file properties, error 0x80004005

I believe I know what is causing the issue, but not sure how to proceed.

I did a system restore back a week or so and it fixed it (but I reversed the restore), but Explorer.exe is giving me a 'No such interface supported error' when I right clicked on desktop and selected anything other than gadgets.

To fix that error I ran this in CMD: FOR /R C:\ %G IN (*.dll) DO "%systemroot%\system32\regsvr32.exe" /s "%G

So I believe that command did something to the properties attributes.

Is there anyway of fixing the Explorer.exe error without running that command? Or is there a way to get both things functioning without one failing?

HI all am trying to change the ip address manually. to unbrick my router. so I go to my network and click properties to change the tcp ect. and the famous Unexpected error accured pops up. I try all the regsvr32 ect. stuff and nothing works. I have windows 8 pro. those anyone know how to fix this?

A:An Unexpected error accured Network properties

Is it really bricked or is it in limbo? I had one I thought was bricked, turns out i just had to wait it out to finish the firmware upgrade.

What model router is it?

Were you trying to install DD-WRT?

if you think that its just a configuration problem, then go to device manager and uninstall your network driver, then click on the action tab on top and click scan for hardware changes, and let windows reinstall them in their default settings. Now try your custom IP.

Did you do the 30-30-30 reset? (press and hold the reset button for 30 secs, unplug router, wait 30 secs, plug router in while still holding the reset, then after 30 more secs, release the reset.) Do not release the reset at any time, til the end.

If it has not completed the firmware upgrade then do not do the 30-30-30 reset until its done..

I get this error as well when I try to edit metadata via the windows explorer toolbar. It only affects some (not all) songs, and the ones affected are missing all of their metadata. Strangely enough though, my music programs like winamp and songbird recognize all metadata for these files--the problem arises when I try to move these song files to my mp3 player, as it cannot find any artist or album information with which to organize the files.

As far as I know, all metadata was intact pre-windows 7.

I have aquired a HP Laptop that the Ethernet appears to be defective. It shows up as This Device Cannot Start (Code 10). I did a complete reinstall because it was using Windows 7 (was purchased by the owner) and I figured it was a driver issue. The original (and now current) OS is Windows Vista and the same thing shows.

I was looking in the properties of the Ethernet card for the vendor ID to make sure I got the correct driver (website has different make drivers) and saw there was a listing that says Problem Code with a value of 000000A -- I was wondering if this is the same like a STOP code or if there is a website with these codes? I have a screenshot of an example.

I'm pretty sure the Ethernet card is toast, I just wanted to make sure.

A:Error code listed in hardware properties

pretty sure that the problem code 00000016 represents some driver issue, but that's going of a total of three instances, so consider that......

starting to agree that the card is cooked, however.

A:Cant Open Printer Properties Error Messages Please help

ON the surface, it sounds to me as if you have a corruption of system files. The problem may be more extended than that, especially with some of the viruses around today.

A few things you can try:

Trend Micro's Housecall- http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

An online virus scanner. Takes a while to load, esp. over dialup, but is good for a quick check.

System Restore:

Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore. In the program that pops up, chose "Restore my computer to an earlier time." Click next. Then on the calendar that pops up, chose a date that has a bold number and is a day before the problems started happening. Click next, follow directions. You will have to reboot.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/plan/faqsrwxp.mspx has more info.

System File checker...
Start->Run->Command

In the box that pops up put in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. Press enter. When it finishes, reboot the machine.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=310747 For more info.

Also be sure to run a scandisk on your harddrive and to check for bad sectors just in case.

Let us know what you try and what results you get.

Hope this helps! BTW- Welcome to Techspot!

This is no big issue, just an annoyance I'd rather not have. When I open my DPs, before they appear I get this error:

"What's This Help Composer
? The Help file C:\WINDOWS\HELP\3dfxv2PS.HLP could not be found. What's This? Help (Help with dialogs) will not be available without this help file. Would you like to search for this file now?" YES NO

The file is not on my machine. I select NO and all works fine. I suspect it's from the VooDoo2 accelerator I had on my machine at one point (but don't now). How can I get it to stop asking for that file / get rid of the error message?

I noticed that i'm missing nearly all tabs on properties, only general and summary tabs are visible. So at least security and compatibility tabs are missing and i need them. Running Vista Home Basic SP1

When trying to open Control panel from the Start, Programs Menu, or right click on Computer to go to System Properties, I get the following message in a small window:

Control.exe

shdocvw.dll not found - reinstalling may fix the problem

Any ideas on whether to try replacing the dll file or should I try using Start Up Repair from the Advanced Boot Options Menu?

The system is clean otherwise. I have run a complete Avast Antivirus scan, Malwarebytes scan, Hijackthis, and Windows Defender scan.

A:Local security policy error and missing tabs on properties

You can restore missing tabs on properties go to Start>Run, type regedit. In the Registry Editor go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
you should have a DWORD key "NoDispSettingsPage" change the value to "0".
If you don't see "NoDispSettingsPage" create the key give it a value of "1" then go back and change the value to "0".

**ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES**

If you're not comfortable messing with the registry wait for someone else with another suggestion. Good Luck!!!

Hi all,

I'm trying to follow the notes I used ages ago to setup RDP across the internet (eg: access home from work), however, I now get an error in one of my configuration steps.

(1) Manually open ports in ICF
(Select NetworkConnections / InternetConnection / Properties / Settings / Add).
• Add "My RDP Port" with <Local_Computer> IP address and port set to above.
• Add "My IIS Port" with <Local_Computer> IP address and port set to above.

(2) However, I get the following error message, when I:
"Select NetworkConnections / InternetConnection / Properties / Settings"

Network Connections Error Window:
"The Internet Connection Sharing computer is not configured to let network users control or disable the shared Internet connection. This setting can be changed in the Advanced Properties of the shared connection on the Internet Connection Sharing computer."

Thanks in advance

What should happen is that another tab, left hand side of main window shouls pop out with other options, it still does, but is just a white "pop out" (kind of hangs) I can just click away and click on the other tabs all ok, just wondering if anybody knows what
this is all about???

If you downloaded the Nero software, perhaps you got it from a bogus website or you may have corrupted version. My Nero came on a CD and I've never had a problem. You may have some malicious software that redirects you to bogus sites.

Help!!! My cd drives are not working properly. I had to do a full system restore on my emachine because Windows xp died. I'm having to reload everything. Small files are ok. Large files (Sims expansion packs, etc. reach about 95% installation then say "i/o device error". I have contacted the "BigFix" people with emachines, and the best they can do is direct me to Microsoft. Their necessary repairs (managing IDE controllers, etc.) does not work. I suspect that it has to do with the SIZE of the installation as smaller programs work OK. PLEASE, I have lost too many hours of my life with this (in addition to all sorts of data)... if you have any suggestions, let me know! Incidentally, I tried both drives which suggests it's purely a software issue. THANKS!!!

I have two drives E (DVD/ROM) and F(DVD/CD R-RW functions). I used to be able to do a simple copy from a system folder and paste onto a CD-R (non-formated) in either drive. Now when I attempt to do so I get "Please insert a disk in drive E" even though a disk is already in it. Using drive F with a disk in it, results in the following when I right click on it and attempt Paste: "F is not accessible. Incorrect function."
The Copy/Paste function will work with a formated disk. I much prefer to use a CD-R. Formating is too time consuming. Any suggestions?
Many Thanks

When I try to add new hardware it gives me an error saying there's a problem with hidci.dll. I've also tried to install my CD-ROM drive with no success. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

For some reason my two CD/DVD drives are not being recognised by my computer. When I troubleshoot the drives I get the following response:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I've uninstalled the device and reinstalled, but it just finds the drive and then says a problem occurred during installation and the device may not be working properly (which of course it isn't).

I've also tried updating the drivers but it says that the ones found are the most up to date.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I find it very suspicious that both drives have "disappeared" together.

Cheers,

Keith

This is one post I remember reading about missing optical drives with the device manager error, "CD-ROM Windows cannot load the device for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

here

I also remember hearing that these issues may be related to Sony's DRM rootkit issues, may be worth looking into this

Have they reviewed the nic card stats for errors or breaks in service. Sounds like the nic is dropping long enough to lose the drive mapping. Review the nics power settings. It should be set to never sleep.

A:Error 39 disappearing cd.drives

Righty, I had a problem similar to this when my sis' pc's dvd drive broke.
We phoned up the fujitsu techs and this is what they told us to do:
1) Click on start -> run. type in REGEDIT and click ok
2) Click the + sign on each of the following, in logical order:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) Once you have done this, you should see one or more of the following filters:
UpperFilters
LowerFilters
UpperFilters.bak
LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above are showing, right click on them and click delete
6) Close regedit and reboot your pc

This should work. Deleting the filters will not harm your pc- the pc will replace them when it boots up

Hello,
I recently bought a Seagate multimedia drive and had to return it because of bad sectors. I just got the replacement and the first time i connected it to the pc the "Scan and Fix" error message appeared. This also happened with the one i returned AND an Iomega multimedia drive (which i also had to return due to bad sectors).

Thats 3 drives all with the same error message and 2 with bad sectors. Could it be vista that is causing this? I have other removable hard drives (not multimedia) and the error message never comes up with them.

The common denominator in all this is my pc and windows vista. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

i have recently tried to install vista home premium OEM on my home machine and i m having some problems!

i load up the wizard to begin install, it finds my drives, i select the drive i want the install on and then it says "copying files" so far so good. machine then does a restart to continue installation, then i get an error saying "windows could not find information on the disks on this machine." i click ok as it is the only option, so vista cannot install. i have the OEM version and i have successfully installed vista on my machine and i have not changed any hardware. i know that the OEM is locked to your motherboard. i am using xp now.

First time to post here, so any help would be appreciated. HP 4520s crashes at windows boot after I factory reset and installed updates. It booted prior to updates. Ran HP test and it showed short dst failed. I read that is a hard drive failure. I installed a new Kingston ssd last night of installed a non hp copy of Windows 7 and all the drivers. Worked great after most updates. Installed another important update (not sure which one) and the same thing happened. The crash happens before windows logo. Hp tools show short dst again.

I find it odd that 2 hdd and 2 different copy's of windows load fine until updates.

Thanks again.

I have tried a third hard drive and a third copy of windows 7, same result. Start up repair can not fix short dst error. Could it be the windows update or a hardware issue other than hard drive?

Ever since early yesterday, I have been having an issue of right click Runtime errors that show up and end up closing the window. It only happens in the Computer window and only when right clicking on a hard drive, not any disc drives or anything else. I am not sure what caused the issue but have already tried System Restore with no avail . I can left click or press enter without any issues and can still click on the drive and then go to the menu bar to get what I need.

Any ideas what could be causing the error in such a particular spot?

Now on boot finds:

Windows Vista Home Primium 228128 MB (D: OS

Do have original system CDs.

Have attempted startup Repair on either drive - repair fails
Repair on D: drive attempts Bfsp(CopyFile) thou fails on up to 60 line attempts
Repair on C: drive (fails)

Found a 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\MountedDevices suggestion on MS site to rename the \DosDevices\C: pointer. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947288

I have a 500gb Network drive on my home network, lets say the home network is named "MyHome" and the network drive is called Bigboy. I have 3 'computers' total on MyHome. My desktop, my wifes notebook and BigBoy. Here's where you can see it.

I can actually see all 3 devices but I keep getting \\Bigboy is inaccessible you might not have permission to use this network resource, contact your administrator blah blah blah error 1208.

Now, this was working great 2 hours ago when I was running windowsXP. My wife's notebook (pinky) can access and browse Bigboy without a problem. From MY computer, I can ping Bigboy by name and IP address.

Can someone explain to me why windows decided I can't access my own computers?

A:Windows 7, network drives, error 1208

This worked for me in Windows 7 and I've seen the same issue connecting XP to Win2000 shares.

If you can browse your network and see your NAS drive, which if you are getting 1208 should be the case, one work around you can use is to map the drive to a drive letter.
Click on the file explorer.
Click on computer.
Click on "Map network drive".
Select the drive letter you want to assign to the drive.
Key in the exact address, e.g., \\myNAS\folders

I hope it works for you!

A:“No Drives Found” error for re-installing Windows 8

You can either try to remove the drive off from your laptop and connect it to another PC for you to get your files or you can try to use a bootable USB/CD to boot your laptop and copy the files you need from the hard drive. If you had no luck with both procedures then ask for a professional service and request for an RMA for your hard drive.

Never mind, I figured it out. Problem was being caused by my drives being assigned as the A: drive and B: drive (Windows 8 allows this, and my slight OCD has always tormented me at not being able to use them for hard drives previous to this, so naturally I jumped on the opportunity to assign those letters). Anyway I reassigned to J: and K: drives just for the purpose of testing and all is now well!

A:usb 3.0 drives getting device descriptor failed error

Hi there slovey  Have you, by any chance tried with another USB cable? I wouldn't make sense to change things as the device works on other systems but it wouldn't hurt to use the other My Book's cable with the problematic one just to rule this out as a potential cause. I would also check this thread and see if the offered solutions there help.  Keeping your OS, BIOS and drivers up to date is also an important part of the troubleshooting process. I'd also check if there's a new update specifically for the driver responsible for the communication between the drive and the system. Post back if you need more info! Captain_WD.

You probably get these threads all the time but I did google it first I am trying to do a fresh install of Windows on a machine with two with drives 2 on machine error Install 0x80300024 harddrives A friend just helped set me up with a new motherboard CPU RAM basically a whole new computer When we moved the harddrives however the Windows drive GB refused to boot no matter what we did so I thought it would just be easier to wipe and reinstall since all my files are on the other TB drive However I didn't realize I'd run into so many problems with a reinstall The way I had it set up last time was that my Users folder was on the TB which I call 'X' and Windows was on 'C' I also had my Programs folder on 'X' instead of installing my programs to Program Files The system worked for me without issues I followed this tutorial if it helps Move the User Folder To A Separate Drive Partition The Right Way Idealistically Caspan This is why I do not want to follow the advice I found most often when googling for this issue which is to disconnect the other drive because then I cannot install the way I need to I need both drives in the machine to work and I know it is possible because I Install error 0x80300024 on machine with 2 drives did this the last time First I just wiped the Windows partition and Install error 0x80300024 on machine with 2 drives tried reinstalling there but the error kept coming up I've now even removed the Linux partition I had on the bootable drive and the system reserve partition so the drive is unallocated space Still Windows will not install to this space and gives me the error My 'X' drive Storage is set as Disk and the Windows drive is set as Disk I thought this could be the issue but I didn't see anyone mention that when I googled it nor am I sure how to change this Would changing this help if so can I do that from BIOS How What can I do to get around this error and install Windows on the drive WITHOUT disconnecting my TB drive where I'd like to put my 'Users' folder

A:Install error 0x80300024 on machine with 2 drives

Unplug the other drive during install. It isn't needed until afterward when you again link the User Folders - Change Default Location.

Then boot the disk to follow these steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums.

Install Programs to C only. They write keys to the registry and thus should remain part of C until uninstalled. This time save a backup image of your completed install so you never need to reinstall again, just reimage the drive in 20 minutes and you're back up and running.

Take the time to look over these same steps for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which compile everything that works best in tens of thousands of installs we've directly helped with here since beta. You'll get and keep a perfect install to the exact extent you stick with those steps, tools and methods.

I need some advice here. I have gotten blue screen errors sometimes when I plug flash drives into my computer. I would like to know where the error is coming from and exactly what is causing it. I have done some searches on it, but nothing solid has come up other than having a friend say its a virus. wanted a second oppinion to make sure.

A:cannot access internal hard drives, I/O error

so after playing with it for awhile, I've found that one of my hard drives is working... just a little slower than normal.

it's the other one that isn't working. I have it partitioned, and depending on which partition I try to access, I either get the I/O error message or Not accessible, the parameter is not set.

I thought maybe a cable came loose, but then it wouldn't show up at all in my program files....

also, I have each partition named (Music / Personal / Games etc...) but the names are not showing up (save one). It just says "Local Disc" now...

any help?

Hi,

This is my first time here but boy do I need help! When I right click Play or double-click my D and/or E drives after inserting a cd or dvd, I get the message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." I have tried several things already including running a thorough cleaning, fixes recommended on the Web including one here and NOTHING works. I cannot burn cds either. Hope someone can help me. I am pretty savvy at following the instructions, even if it includes going into the registry. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Ok, I was burning a disc and it was going really slow for some reason. So I looked at its properties and the max burnign speed was 8x...(very wrong) so I downloaded the latest firmware for it (the firmware that was on the other drive and could burn (if it worked) at 52x) and then I rebooted, but I took out the busted cd-drive too, cause there no reason to leave it in there. Now whenever I boot it doesn't load the OS. I get a disc read error, I've put hard drive in first/second/third boot up option in bios. I can boot without the drives plugged in successfully, even though it does give me the error once but then I press enter and it loads. I can't boot with 1 drive or both. Thanks, think updating the BIOS would help? System specs are below.

Update: Checked, my BIOS is up to date.

A:Boot from Disc error when adding cd-drives

Please be more descriptive of your boot problem. It doesn't really make much sense as you have it laid out. Which drives did you disconnect? I know you say CD-drive but then you say it boots with 1 drive but not the other? Are we talking about the system in your sig?

Not sure if this is the correct spot for this but I have a strange situation.

When using Computer from the start menu, I get the page that you would expect. However, if I double click on any of the drives, I get a "File does not have a program associated with it error". But, the drive links on the left hand side of that page work just fine!

Any thoughts.

Thanks for any help and best regards,
Barryzee

A:Drives in Computer give a file not associated error

Hi Barryzee it sounds like your drive associations have been messed up, a quick google found the attached reg fix for you run it then restart your computer.

I have no idea how trustworthy this is. Please backup your registry and any files you dont want to lose first just in case: Registry - Backup and Restore I would also recommend making a system restore point System Restore Point - Create

G'day,

I have just done a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64bit on my PC after doing some upgrades...... It was a nightmare to get it even to install for some reason.....

For some reason, every time i log on, i get the message "Warning! No additional hard drives available for migration"

I have no idea how to eradicate the problem! I have googled and searched for the answer to no avail. It goes as soon as i click OK, but it is just irritating!

Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?

PC Specs are:

Intel: i7 3930K
M/B: Gigabyte G1 Assassin 2
Ram: 16GB Corsair Vengence
HDD: 2 x 120GB Corsair Force 3 in RAID0 (OS and some games)
HDD: 2 x 600GB Velociraptor in RAID0 (Main program location)

Vid: Gigabyte 580GTX

A:Error on Log in: No additional hard drives available for migration

Hello,

Start your PC in safe mode and see if the error comes up then. It is probably a program starting when your PC turns on which is causing the error.

Enter Safe mode by pressing "F8" when the computer is starting up (Before Windows Starts) and select Safe Mode.

If you dont get the message then it will be a startup program or service. Let us know how you get on.

For no apparent reason, my computer (P III, 1G speed, 512 Meg RAM, W2K Pro) tells me that my optical devices (SAF CD Burner and LiteOn DVD) won't start. The error message indicates "incorrect environment." Nothing unusual has happened to the machine, which is left on 24/7. The BIOS indicates that it is willing to start the devices. W2K sees them. Their ready lights flash on POST. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling using Windows drivers. Nothing changed. The computer does a memory dump on reboot. What is going on?

Hello Last night I encountered an error invalid disk while writing to my TB drive Once the write 3TB Disk the Drives on error Regarding Question Invalid was completely there was gt TB of data written to the disk and so this error appeared when I tried to access the HDD I did a bunch of google-fu'ing and found a bunch of information and fixes like this one http Question Regarding the Invalid Disk error on 3TB Drives www neondemon com archives ho r-in-windows- However - this doesn't quite match up what happened to me The value in the hex field was EE not My first question is - does anyone know why it was EE Also From what I understand this problem began because I had the HDD set to dynamic I do not know why it was set to dynamic as it is not part of a RAID and because I did not have IRST installed at all I did not realize IRST was an integral part of a build I thought it was only for SSD caching and the like Can some one fill in the blanks here for me please When did IRST become part of the fundamental driver installs Specs are Windows bit ASUS p z -v Pro OS resides on an OCZ Vertex GB SSD quot Work quot drive is x GB Samsung SSDs in RAID Storage HDD TB TB TB Thanks in advance Cheers Logun

A:Question Regarding the Invalid Disk error on 3TB Drives

I can only answer part. the IRST also contains the Intel SATA III driver for that board, the other is Marvell, I have one too. SSDs perform MUCH better using it so I suspect HDDs will too.
