Hi there to any of you network Gurus -- I'm testing a Virtual version of Windows Server What I'd like to do is to set up a VPN so I can access it from another computer Windows in the LAN while testing but using a VPN rather than RDP A FREE VPN server and client is what I would like at this stage Eventually I would like to login from a mobile phone too - but later The VPN should just present a LOGIN screen to the user and then show a basic desktop with just say Office and IE installed on it I'm totally VPN and VPN AND Create (Server client) Free software good new to this sort of stuff - so SIMPLE to start with - I don't want to get into quot Remote Roaming quot Domains or any other quot Geeky stuff quot at this stage -- just the simple basics - LOGON etc Any links greatfully appreciated -- there's so many to choose from so I don't know where to start The network connectivity to the server works fine --at least with RDP so I don't have to worry at least about that bit of the system Cheers jimbo
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
First off, a vpn in just a virtual network connection, so it won't natively present you with a desktop or applications. It will get you remotely connected to the network, from there you will launch something else to connect to a desktop, either rdp, terminal services, etc.
Doing a VPN is natively built into sever 2012, so you won't need any software, free or otherwise to setup a.basic VPN.
I thought it would be a good idea in keeping with the overall secure free try free/free source software? and sites & Good movies legal to for goal of this site to Good source sites for secure & legal free movies and free/free to try software? start a thread to give people a list of legal and secure sites for downloading free or dirt-cheap movies music and software games I believe this would helpful in terms of not just telling people not to visit support pirating websites but to also give them other alternatives so that there wouldn't be a temptation to go there anyway And also for people like me that Don't want to steal but also don't want to pay more than I have to Master list of sites for free dirt cheap movies music and free free to try software Music Open Music Archive LEGAL NOTICE Contains music with expired copyright according Good source sites for secure & legal free movies and free/free to try software? to UK copyright law which states that the copyright expires years after the author's death As such some of the music may be considered pirated in countries with longer copyright periods For example The longest copyright period I know of is Mexico years after the author's death INCOMPETECH This guy composes his own music and gives it away for free Movies and or TV Hulu Movies and tv free with ads or for cost of membership watchable without ads http www epixhd com Free for Dishnetwork users Netflix Not completely free but VERY low price Software WARNING As stated by Quietman Many free Software Sites contain ads or link to sites containing ads with misleading download links to potentially dangerous software Be sure to click the correct download link which is usually smaller than the false link and it's usually a good Idea to avoid clicking on links with the words Reccomended or Important next to the link Even if the correct download link is selected Potentially unwanted programs PUPs May be installed if you click through without opting out Bleeping Computer Cnet Download Wide variety of software including games Game demos video and audio players editors etc Cnet installs PUPS practically as a rule unless you opt out MajorGeeks SnapFiles FileHippo Also has a utility for keeping programs up to date A list of unsafe legally questionable for free sites would probably be helpful as well
That is a good question.
When I think about it Hulu does have movies.
I use Netflix.
I can use http://www.epixhd.com/ as I have Dishnetwork and can use that to be able to watch. Yup, just tested works good.
Many of the Movies channels can be watched that way.
I need something really easy to setup and use. I need something that I will be able to access my files when I'm not at home but VERY easy to setup, nothing that complicated. Also I want to make sure that other users can also acess the file but only people I let have the permission to.
Hi there For anybody running Centos as a VM or even Native - but as this is a Windows Forum I'll assume it's on a VM this is about the easiest and most foolproof method of getting OPENVPN to work and how to manage those pesky certificates How to install OpenVPN Server and Client on CentOS It's easier than you think but not for the faint hearted Running in a VM is good because if you Hose it up then just start again with a new VM Hint - when you first install the Virtual OS save a few copies of the VM For a small test system you don't need much space That way if you need to restart or it all goes pearshaped then just delete old VM and power on new Client / (?) SIMPLE !! method OPENVPN CENTOS Create server 7 on one Ensure though you have at least ONE spare one It also helps to have more than one NIC although you can do it with One - in any case on a VM you can presumably add a second virtual NIC and a switch if necessary You'll have to create a Network Bridge --explained in the documentation Have fun BTW UBUNTU is also another decent distro with documentation for running a VPN too but I'm used to CENTOS Test on Local LAN first Helps if you have another computer such as Create OPENVPN server / Client on CENTOS 7 SIMPLE (?) method !! a Laptop to test connection with - although you CAN do it from the HOST OS On the HOST OS of course you'll have to install the CLIENT OS if you do it that way Otherwise install the Client OS on the laptop OPENVPN Client is available for Windows For Windows -- Client How to install the Desktop Client on Windows If you have dynamic IP from ISP you'll need to find out the IP address of your server -- the easiest way is to use CRONTAB to run every so often and pipe the output of ifconfig to a small file and email it to yourself so if the dynamic IP changes you can logon with the new IP address - Cheaper than paying for a Domain or using something HIDEOUS like Teamviewer You can FIX the local LAN address of your server so that any port routings from the outside are directed to the correct machine A VM behaves exactly as a physical machine in this regard Cheers jimbohttp://www.tenforums.com/virtualization/67246-create-openvpn-server-client-centos-7-simple-method.html
My eset 1 year key just expired, thinking of installing Avast free av for my home pc.,is it a good choice ?
Avast free antivirus is an excellent choice in hardened mode! just make sure you deselect all the crap that you do not need during install ( secureline - browsercleaner - avast cleaner - software updater and so on. )
Any free software which does the trick - create an ISO files from the files on a CD? Basically, reverse of burning.
I'm on Windows 8
You might see if either of these may work for you.
Can't find the option to burn an ISO disk
Do you know of any server-client type of program/software (shareware/licensed) that allows users (intranet/internet) to view add, edit, delete files/folders? The server application must also accommodate dynamic IP while the client side must involve minimum configurations.
It would also be great if it includes a discussion interface - chat, boards, etc.
Thank you very much!

I have been given a PC with Windows Home of 2011 client software Removal Windows Server Home Premium bit This was a client PC from a small old Windows Home Server system which has now been dismantled as the server PC failed My unit works fine but I cannot remove the irritating Server client items from it - Launchpad and Alert Services etc etc Have looked everywhere on the disk but cannot find any uninstall file anywhere All the relevant files seem to be in the Program Files Windows Server Bin folder but nothing found there No separate uninstalling prog will work either Have considered starting up the PC in Safe Mode physically removing the Windows Server folder and contents then running a registry cleaner to tidy up the loose ends Am concerned that this might make the PC unstable so ask if anyone has any useful suggestions For now I have worked through the Start Up process and inhibited the ones considered relevant Also CCleaner has stopped the Launchpad This has worked but would like to permanently remove Removal of Windows Home Server 2011 client software the unwanted items Ted
No one has supplied any suggestions as to my programme removal so decided to risk it and do it myself as described.
Backed up whole HD plus registry, restarted in basic Safe Mode then physically removed all traces of WHS 2011 in file system.
Emptied Recycle Bin then restarted as normal.
No disasters occurred so used CCleaner and Advanced Uninstaller PRO. They mopped up the loose ends and everything seems to be fine now. Job done!
I suppose the same process could be used for most difficult to remove items.
If anyone can suggest a good free burner I'd be stoked.
No trialware please.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Here's a link to DeepBurn which has worked well for me. Let us know what you think.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/21210/need-good-free-cd-burning-software/

What is a good free cd/dvd burning software,
that lets you burn extracted iso's and autorun works after you burn it.
Please give me links to that.
The isos are just disk images, so they essentially are exactly the same as the dvd, just in a file form. Any application that will burn an iso image (not the iso file itself) will do, and if the disk the iso was made of had an autorun then so will the burned disk.
This is the free one I'd recommend: http://cdburnerxp.se/
I'm a noob to this kind of thing, so i'm a bit clueless...
What is the best free partition software for NTFS. I tried Partition Magic, but it's a huge hassle to use. I'm hoping for a non-destructive partitioning software.
Note: I'm going to install Fedora Core 1 on the new partition, so I just need to resize my NTFS partition.
Ranish is good & I do believe it's one of the tools included in the UltimeBootCD

Stupid me. I built a new computer and installed an Asus Blu Ray drive, but I have no software that supports Blu Ray viewing. Is there any good free software that I can use on a Windows 8.1 machine that will enable Blu Ray playback? Thanks in advance.
XBMC (now Kodi.tv) has a nice, configurable interface. As a more basic option, you may want VLC media player.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/567409/i-need-good-free-software-for-blu-ray-playback/
Looking for a good free antivirus software to run. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I have used the avg antivirus for about 3 yrs now on my own computers and have had several friends/family members install it and are happy with it. www.grisoft.com. you can also download it on a link from www.download.com.
Planned on getting Genie Backup Manager, but need to wait until the new year. However, I don't want to wait until then to backup my C-drive.
Was looking at using Back2zip until then. This is for a home computer needing the usual data backed up. Pictures, email addresses, data files, etc. No locked files. No encrypted files. Will this suffice?
This link is a mini-tutorial (guess you would call it that) that suggests putting everything in My Documents first after creating a new file. Apparently I will need to do this myself before running the backup software.
I am running Windows XP Home, and Thunderbird for my email. Any other information I should include?
Also remember that I am computer illiterate, so please take it easy on me.
Anyone know of any free virus protection software, something with real time protection would be good. Any advice would be really nice
I have turned (windows defender) off and am now using (Avast)

I am thinking of installing a good reliable spyware software. There are so many available. I am confused which one to try. I will be grateful if someone could recommend an easy to use free spyware software. I am using Windows 98.
Hey everybody... OK this might be a weird question but still - I was wondering if any of you could recommend a decent stopwatch software? I need a timer that would do this for example: 30sec countdown - beep - 15sec countdown - beep - 30sec countdown - and so on. It's for working out indoors now that's it's too cold outside, if anybody's wants to know (Lost my wristwatch).
Thanks in advance!

I'm looking for a good free email notifier for pop3 accounts that allows you to view headers and delete selected items on the server.
It's been awhile since I used one of these. The programs I used in the past aren't likely to support Vista and Windows Seven.
Just looking for something simple with those functions, that can handle multiple pop3 accounts.
Try POP Peeper.

Any one know of good free anti virus software that will search and DELETE all the virus, worms it finds etc?
guyzzz could u give me some anti virus that doesnt free trial??????pc tool or anything good for my lappy......
Sure, my favorite is Microsoft Security Essentials.
MSE is very good for laptops, because it doesn't use much resources.
There is no need to pay for anti-virus products these days.
Another good one is Avast.
hi,,,, im not a big fan of optomizers,,,,, they promice a lot and give what you alredy have,,,,, just keep your pc clean,,,ie,, close all uneeded programs on start up,, thats all of them APART FROM YOUR SECURITY PROGRAMS,, ,,,, if your worried about some of them look in the startup list on this site,,, than go to a site called The Black Viper and follow his guied on which services you can shut down safely,,, if in doubt leave it as it is,,,, than use firefox for your browsing as it lets you clear files cookies etc when you close it,,, and its better than ie7,,, also give a cleaner like ccleaner a go but read up on how to use it befor you do,,,, and when using the reg cleaner part always use the built in back up and acctualy take a look at how its configured,,, like uncheck the clear recycle bin part,, as this is your last line of defence for the ,, "damn i did'nt want to delete that" screem,,,,,, also vista has an auto defrag but its always good to do a defrag with another one aswell like auslogics disc defrag,,,,, also delete all programs you dont want or use,,, this will keep your HDD clear,,, you can always download them again or get a free version of something simalar,,,,, then start looking at your hardware,,, the knollagable view is that vista sweet spot for RAM is 2gig,,, if you have 1gig go buy another 1gig of the same stuff,,, its cheep enough now and this will help the most,,,, these programs can be found on a site called cnet,,, and if you still want an optomizer there's loads of them on cnet too with user's and editors comments which will tell you there crap,,,,lol ,,,,, good luckhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/139630/any-good-free-optomization-software-for-vista/

Since Nero Burning ROM 220.127.116.11 doesn't support Win7, I'm looking for an alternative. Anyone having any experience with BurnAware Free? The interface is OK, and it doesn't seems to be a bloatware / adware but is it any good? Is it reliable?
You can try other utilities also; eventually pick the one you enjoy working with the most. Googling burning software for Windows 7 returns many free and pay-for choices.http://www.sevenforums.com/software/396008-burnaware-free-good-reliable-software.html

Any GOOD free ftp backup software for windows?

I'm looking for good software that I can quickly scan a network to get info -

hiya, im looking for a good DVD burning software for free... not a trial or anything just something good and free, im not looking for like a program to make menus and stuff just something to burn the movie files to the dvd and so it runs automatically when i put it in the DVD player
I have a D-Link firewall router and am presently using the Xp SP2 firewall but will turn it off when I install a 3rd party item. The Zone Alarm 5.5 used to lock up, drop the connection, crash and all kinds of other bad things. I ditched it. Does the 6.0 version do the same ?
I have heard good things about Sygate, Kerio and a few others.
What are your recommendations, experiences ?
By the way, Please just give me your take and no links to sites or threads, I have read a lot of them already and no review mentioned the ubiquitous and often-mentioned zone alarm bugs. So I am really looking for your opinions from using a firewall for a while.
I went through the sticky's and was surprised to not find any suggestions for good and reputable security software that's available for purchase or for free.

I am looking for some sort of FTP Server Software that is free. Basically, I just need something that I can set up on my Win XP Pro machine where I can have people transfer files to me without having to email them. Especially since some files are too large to email and get bounced. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions. Thanks.
Another thing to note, preferably I'd like some way where people sending me files do not have to install any type of software for themselves. Where they could just go to maybe some sort of GUI and can just log in and dump files.

I don't know of any GOOD free FTP clients. When I used to do a lot of FTP transfers I found Cute FTP to be a very user friendly program.
A friend of mine tried Smart FTP and said he liked it but he wasn't a power user. It was just a one time use.
Try googling CuteFTP and/or Smart FTP and/or 'free FTP client'. Tons of crap will come up.
Hello guys, I need a good diary software that has the ability to take backups and restore them, lets say when I want to reinstall windows. Ive come across some diary softwares but none of them provide the ability to take backups. Thanks
Now I am a bit confused as to what you want to do virajk - why don't you just back up to an external or an extra internal drive vis an image or even a clone??http://www.sevenforums.com/software/279540-good-free-diary-software-ability-tale-backups.html
Hello, i've got Windows Defender on my W7 laptop here. I'm having some weird goings on recently with redirects and now some strange chinese text appearing when i click on links. The redirects have stopped but i still got the text appearing yesterday, but today it has stopped since i disabled my Comodo CIS av and firewall (i'm now using Toolwiz Timefreeze).
First question is Windows Defender on W7 the same as Microsoft Security Essentials?
Is w7 Windows Defender and firewall as good as these commercial Anti virus software?
Is there a malware removal tool built into W7 and is it common to need online support?
Billy personally I would not rely on that and if you want a fairly good real time AV then pick one out from this listing Free Windows Desktop Software Security List - Realtime Protection | Gizmo's Freeware personally I would not recommend the AVG, Norton 360, or McAfee.
PS I meant to mention there are a plethora of other security tips in this site.
tried to down load the free version of adaware with firefox and google pack but it dousnt seem to have given me the adaware. I am working on my mother in laws p.c and this spyware is causing problems on start up so need to get rid of it. I am trying to get rid of a sipspi32.dll file. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking for free webdav server software that will run in windows XP or if there isn't any then I'll even be ok with some pay software so long as it runs in XP. I do have XP professional if that matters. I know that windows server 2003 allows for this... but I really just don't want to bother with that.
There's loads of free ftp server software out there to say nothing of XP being able to do it native... but I'm not seeing anything for webdav.
I need it for calender stuff.
Apache with the DAV module?
i currently use 'iDrive' which does a daily backup of my computer. This is all good but i have got my own web server which has a 1 TB hard disk inside and is always connected to my home network and the internet.
I am looking for a piece of software (preferably free) that family and friends can use on their computers and connect to my server and backup their important documents automatically.
Without sounding horrid, a lot of my friends and family are not very experienced with computers and so i am needing a piece of software that once setup it will backup their documents and pictures etc with out them having to do anything or only having to press a few buttons.
Not sure if this type of software exists but if anybody knows of software that does this i would be very grateful.
Check out Syncback.
There is a free version.
Here is a comparison chart between their commercial and free versions >
I am looking for recommendations for good AV spftware that is administered from a single system to multiple workstations. We have a small windows XP/W2k network running in domain model.
I came across this on the net and thought I would share it. Has anyone tried it? It looks robust. The features on it blows away Openvpn. SoftEther VPN Project.... https://www.softether.org/ I will spin up a box and definitely be trying this out.
I was just thinking doing downloading AVG free, Adaware SE, Spybot, and Spyblaster for protection for my clients. Why don't I store these install files this time? Then I thought why not just get WMI files of them if possible. Then I realized I'm a total noob to pushing out things and should probably ask how is the preferred method before doing it. Now I know that MS Server 2003 can push out things but I am unclear about 2 things.
1. Where should you store those WMI files you want to push out to select later?
2. If I can't get a WMI file is there a converter or should I get a third party product that can push out?
Anyone that can help would be great, right now I'm just storing the .exe files in a folder on the server. I know in theory you can do it, I just haven't done it yet with anything.
Nevermind got it but it gives an option in the form of a box instead of just installing is there a switch to auto run?
A free Windows multimedia and home automation application is released, called the Digital Home Server (DHS). Thanks to the nice graphical interface, DHS looks great in your living room, where it can act as a media player.
DHS is a hobby project that has grown wildly in size, and started as a graphical interface for 7" USB monitors. The current version can handle any monitor size from 7" up to whatever, and the screen design will be adapted accordingly. Moreover, the layout is touchscreen compatible, so even on small monitors you can still easily control all functions.
It's been a while since I release the Digital Home Server, so I though I give a little update on the modules that have been released in the meantime :
DVD Player : play DVD from optical disk or local hard disk
Scribble Pad : a little drawing application
Wakeup module : set alarm time, and wake up with music
Picasa slideshow : photo slideshow with Picasa Web Albums
Notify My Android : send free notifications to your Android smartphone
I hope you like DHS as much as I do !
I was tasked to create an answer file for an unattended install using SIM. In a virtual lab, i had the install.wim file on a server and put it on a share to push it through to the client machine. Just for the purpose of making it easy, we could apply full
control permissions in ntfs to the file to everyone and gave read write permissions to everyone in the share. By giving the path in SIM i could pull the file from the client station, but then was asked for credentials. Any idea why it is asking for credentials?
I thought that i made it available to everyone. I even made a separate folder and copied the file to the folder then changed the permissions. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Hello Rawkfist, and welcome to Vista Forums.
If you like, Avast is a good free option.

My ISP is offering free access to a McAfee. "$120 value".
Is this going to be as good as if I actually went to the store and bought it? Is it really the same thing?
It should be the very same as if you paid for it. But your ISP is who paid for it and if you change ISP's then the software will not update. Otherwise it's as good as if you paid for it.
Hi all, I have Win Vista and am looking for a good free (if any) fax software to use..thanks in advance....

I've seen the complaints about this problem but with no clear resolution. There are some hot fixes listed that may help, updating to Windows 7 SP1 is supposed to help in some cases but nothing seems for certain.

There is a process running on my computer called csrss.exe
I went to http://www.processlibrary.com and looked it up and came up with 2 different things. One says it is a Trojan and needs to be removed. The same exact process name also says it is Microsoft client server runtime server and SHOULD NOT be removed.
How I am supposed to tell the difference so I do not make a mistake by either leaving it alone or removing it???

Hi I'm working on a client/server with the Java programming language and trying to figure out how to protect my server. With my current Virus/Firewall protection suite theres nothing I can do to keep out unwanted Java applications on the port I choose to allow the Java SE Binary through for clients accessing the server application. ESET Smart Security 4 is what I am using. Does anybody know of a security suite that would allow only a specific Java application to get through the firewall? I'm not to sure on this subject because my firewall is identifying any Java application as only the "Java SE Binary" and not I'm sure if you can even really name your Java application like you would something you would write in C++. Any information would be appreciated, thank you.
was trying to network my computer to the server but keep getting the message 'server not responding from client computer' can anyone help please.
A friend is moving his business and the new business park that he's setting up shop in internet. network LAN server/client server only, for for USB hotspot does not have anyway to get any wired internet to his building excluding a T line which he can't justify the cost of One windows machine acts as the server primarily for Quickbooks database and there are two other windows machines that are clients reading off said database He's getting one of those usb dongles for wireless internet service for the server only the other two computers will be tethered to a smartphone for internet for QB and windows updates periodically They do NOT want to share the servers wireless connection to the other machines My only concern was if the server LAN network for server/client only, USB hotspot for server internet. will continue to try to check the LAN for internet connectivity or will it check both network connections when one fails or is there a setting I can tell them to change to ensure it knows to go to the wireless dongle for internet all the time without interfering with the workstations talking to the server over the LAN to get to the database The setup at the old office LAN network for server/client only, USB hotspot for server internet. was business class DSL they are using a relatively new Linksys router which had the DSL authentication information Thank you
I managed to find a solution this morning, for anyone that's interested, the whole article is here: Multiple Network Connections at the Same Time on Windows | Ivan Zlatev
But the short answer is, under the advanced properties of TCP/IP v4, uncheck automatic metric, set your internet to a value of 1, and the LAN to a value of 9999.
I'm looking at setting up windows 2003 terminal servers all over the place to replace the awful thing people are currently doing here - vncing servers with one small shared password among everyone <holding my hands over my ears for the backlash>. Don't blame me, it's another awful legacy I have to get rid of...
1. I've got to set up a Terminal Server Licensing server and was thinking about putting this on my second domain controller. I was wondering what would happen in this server dies, though. Is there some way of having resilience in this scenario? Perhaps a second Licensing server or something, the way you have 2 or more Domain Controllers?
2. Also, I know that Windows XP has an RDP client, I've used before on many occasions, but what about all the Windows 2000 clients that I still have out there. What should I do for them to access the new Terminal Servers?
I'm not 100% sure on #1, but I believe that the TS licensing becomes integrated into the AD, so if one DC goes down, the other one will be able to check licensing. On another note, if you are using the TS for administration only, I don't believe you needs the TS Licensing to be installed.
For #2, you can download the latest version of the RDP client from MS's website. It should also be available through Windows Updates, although I think Win2K isn't supported any longer, other than Critical Updates.
I have windows XP Pro SP systems quot A quot is connected to the net through a router to a switch to the cable modem quot B quot is connected via a crossover cable to quot A quot and connects out to the internet via ICS in quot A quot just fine I need to be able to RDC to both of them because they client Client SP3 bad. RDC Pro out in good, to ICS XP are going to Client ICS out good, RDC in to client bad. XP Pro SP3 another house where there is only the cable modem no hub no router just the cable modem and I don t want to spend any more of their money then Client ICS out good, RDC in to client bad. XP Pro SP3 I have to Now here is the strange part I have two static IP s two separate Internet connections so I can easily test across the net I can RDC into quot A quot just fine but not to quot B quot through the ICS connection I can RDC to quot A quot and in quot A quot start another RDC to quot B quot from within quot A quot and voila I have connection across the net to quot B quot but only by running one remote desktop connection from within another one That works OK but it is inelegant and I know I should be able to RDC directly to quot B quot through the ICS connection in quot A quot I changed the listening port for RDC in quot A quot and quot B quot and believe I have the router and NAT set correctly Both of my IP s come out of my cable modem to a switch and I can t make this work even when I connect quot A quot to the switch and let it get a dynamic address and just bypass the router entirely I also believe that I have the firewalls set properly also but even when I turn them off I can only RDC to quot A and then RDC again in quot A quot to quot B quot I can get to quot B quot for future needs on the part of my friends The quot B quot machine is for their year old who destroyed the quot A quot machine by using P P software and getting many viruses I had to wipe and reload from scratch This is driving me nuts There is an ICS bug in XP Pro SP that there is a hot-fix for and I installed that on quot A quot but supposedly do not need to on quot B quot Can anyone tell me if I am wrong there I do not want to do anything to destroy the connections I have managed to achieve I would appreciate anyone who could tell me how to RDC directly to the quot B quot machine without having to nest RDP connections even though that works Thank you very much and I apologize for the long post but this is pretty complicated Thank you in advance MeadMaker nbsp
Has anyone ever tried to change from XP to Vista, and create a new network connection to an FTP client? the "My Network" menu option has disapeared in both Vista and Win 7. The most logical choice therefore would be to look under Network for a menu option to do this. Nope.... Not there either.
I found out how to do it. It may be easy, but not if you cannot find it. Users should not have to search that hard to find an answer.
To help users, is there any plan to restore a menu option to do that under Networking?
How about putting Networking back under the Start Menu?
I mentioned this in another thread, but I think this is a better thread to post under.
It's been a couple of days since I have posted. I was wondering if my last post has been read by anyone who might be able to comment on weather my suggestion(s) might have merit; what chance it/they might have of being incorparated; or if a "fix" is being considered already.http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/16197-create-new-network-connection-ftp-client.html
Be careful where your get your free software or free software updates from. Some programs on certain download sites can get malware, viruses, or have pups even if the program provided was originally clean. One site I recommend is MajorGeeks they do a really good job.
Ninite is another very clean site. Plus it is a very handy site. https://ninite.com/http://www.sevenforums.com/software/364299-careful-where-you-get-your-free-software-free-software-updates.html
I have a client that for some reason AVG will not update except manually going to the grisoft site and downloading the update. I have tried every thing including installing from a CD, Installing from the Grisoft website, updating manually, and for some reason the AVG update manager will not work. Can someone recommend another Free Antivirus that is as easy to use and as automatic as AVG is, that I can install on her computer. This is an elderly woman that needs things as simple as possible. She can be taught to follow prompts but I would like to keep things as easy as possible. for example I send her emails regularly to remind her to run Adaware and Spybot, Any suggestions?
What is a good free Anti-Virus program to replace the now dead (Internal Virus Database is out-of-date) AVG Free 7.5.557 version 270.12.11/2089? The AVG icon in my task tray is black and gray.AVG Free 8.5 will not work on Windows ME! It must be an Anti-Virus program that will operate on Windows ME. I can not afford to buy a new computer. This computer does not have enough memory to upgrade the operating system, we already tried that for other reasons.
HI, you can get AntiVir Personal Edition or avast! Home Edition to replace AVGhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/226481/need-good-free-av-to-replace-avg-free-75557-on-windows-me/
2 things im looking for here. does anyone know of a free antivirus program that would run on windows 2000 server? and any recommendations on a free typing program that allows you to type full paragraphs? or if maybe there is a good typing program thats worth buying?
I'm trying to send a HPDM rule task that will sync the system clock to an NTP server every day at a specific time. With the write filter off it works fine, but with it enabled the system reboots to commit the filter. I don't want it to reboot (I'm fine with the change being lost on the next reboot) but I don't see where to set that option. When sending a manual task, I can choose to send regardless of write filter status. Is there a way to do that for a rule task? Thanks, Davehttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Can-I-create-a-rule-task-that-won-t-reboot-the-thin-client/td-p/5656825
Hello, I have a question. What is a good mail client? I remember using Outlook Express what was really good
but now i watched Microsoft?s Live Essentials but no support for GMail. Does anyone know a simple mail client with a Addres Book and stuff like that?
I recommend Thunderbird and Opera. Both are very good.http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/318996-good-mail-client.html
I'm currently using OE for mail, not thrilled with it. Using it for 6 hotmail accounts, 1 ISP based email, and about 5 NG servers (text only, use forte agent & newsbin for binaries). I do like the fact that you can easily change NG identities with OE, don't like that it shows a emailer's NAME instead of ADDRESS when you receive a message (most people have 2+ addresses, how you reply to "Sue Smith" may depend on WHERE the mail originated, her work or her personal mail etc. Since it just says "Sue Smith", you have to do a bunch of right clicking to find the ADDRESS). So what clients do people recommend?
Well, I use Eudora and I like it, FWIW.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f56/looking-for-a-good-email-client-7048.html
I am looking for the best free email client. Have tried gmail, hotmail, and a couple of others even Thunderbird and can't get it to work right.I am thinking about changing from MS Office Pro 7 as I don't like the new ribbon bar, I like the older style better. Anyway to one of the free offices but they don't have an email client.
I have searched for a decent free email client for a few years now, and can't find one that suits my needs. Even paid clients don't seem to match up to my requirements. Some come close, but there's always something that breaks the deal. I currently use PocoMail, but it's no longer in development and wasn't made for anything newer than XP, though it does work fine on Win7. Eventually I will need another client, but have no idea what could replace Poco.
As for the Office 7 ribbon, I didn't like it at first but once I was basically forced to use it, it started to make sense and become easy to use. I now find it comfortable and in many ways better. Have you given it a fair chance?
Any recommendations for an email program for Windows 7? (Haven't seen a topic on this - any links?).Looking through Google, Windows Live Mail has been suggested. I understand also that it would be possible to use Outlook Express, if you have Win 7 Professional and can therefore download the Windows Virtual PC and run the program in Windows XP Mode. Not all of my accounts can be accessed through webmail, without paying further subscription fees, so I am looking for a good alternative.Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal
I personally recommend Thunderbird. It is fast, secure, and has tons of features.Windows Live Mail is nice too but with Microsoft's security history... I stay away from it.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/291259/a-good-email-client/
I have Windows 8.1 with Office 2007 installed. I therefore use office outlook for my email.
I've been having some problems with it lately and ready to try a different email client. Can anyone suggest a good one to use where I won't have to change me email address and still has a spell checker?
I use Outlook but if I didn't I would use Thunderbird. Have used it before and installed for a few clients and they like it. Mozilla Thunderbirdhttp://www.eightforums.com/browsers-mail/36504-need-good-email-client.html
Anybody can recommend a good torrent download client. I've been using BitCommet for some time but want to see if can get something faster.
You may want to read the site rules to understand why your thread gets closed.
I have vista and it came with Windows Mail... The application is less than satisfactory.
Please advise what email client you would recommend
Thunderbird - Reclaim your inbox
with Lighting installed for calendar functionality,
Lightning - Project Home
sorry if there's a better place for this. Please re-locate if so.
I'm looking for a good free ftp client. Recommendations gratefully received.

Hi All,I am looking for a free FTP Client. I am using WinSCP now. It works good but I would like to see if I can find something better. Also I am getting an error sending a file using SFTP. I hope that by moving to another client the problem will go away. Thanks

Question: Is there an actual Cisco VPN Anyconnect version that works as advertised without cutting
and band aiding the code?
I am using Windows Professional 7 64 bit and having a devil of time trying to get this set up. My employers tech support teams seems to be unfamiliar with how to fix this
problem as well. I am using the internet version of Cisco VPN anyconnect-win-2.4.0202 to establish a working VPN connection.
I actually feel for Bill Gates and the disappointment he must have for his company Microsoft. How could a billion dollar world class company deliver a product
with so many problems. I am sure MSFT is doing its best to engage Cisco in partnering with them to resolve this issue quickly.
If you have any helpful recommendations for a better Operating System that works well with networks I am open to suggestions.
The version 2.4 of Cisco Anyconnect VPN Client is compatible with Windows 7 64bit, you can verify in
Windows 7 Compatibility Center and view the
Release Notes for Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client, Release 2.4.
Cisco Anyconnect Client 2.4.0202 runs on Windows 7 64bit. As I don’t have this product at my hand, I kindly recommend you to contact Cisco for guided help.

Hello friends. I have been very busy of lately, had to transfer servers from our old command center in Kyiv to our brand new office. My American friends whom I speak with on forums with, tell me I need to get onto IRC. Can you reccommend me an IRC client that doesn't suck? Something that has a smooth interface, nice looking, easy to use, and doesnp;t crash every 30 seconds. I need to chat to them ASAP, so if you can help, I would appreciate it very much.
You may use XChat for Windows for free for 30 days
You always seem to ask the strangest questions

I recently downloaded FileZilla, which was bundled with some nasty malware (Vosteran).
Now I'm trying to find a totally safe FTP Client alternative. What is user-friendly and safe to download?
I don't know where you downloaded FIleZilla, but I never found any malware in it... So tell me, where did you download it from?
If you get it from the official website, here I don't see any problem, or use the direct link.
To inform you it is safe I scanned the setup using Virustotal, see the result here.
But when you are 100% sure you want something else, you can get a look on this website.
looking for a free ftp client that easy to understand and operate.
hoping to save some searching and trial and error...any suggestions?
Hi guys What free Antivirus software for servers What free anti-malware would NOT be a good idea Info My friend has purchased a Poweredge server to act as a fileserver for a private network not connected to the internet He uses laptops at the most to access files on the server However at some points he will update Windows Server Server ? Free Antivirus e.g. for Server Windows 2008 plus odd bits by temporaily hooking up to the Internet and obviously leave himself open Free Server Antivirus ? e.g. for Windows Server 2008 to malware etc for a short time The cost Free Server Antivirus ? e.g. for Windows Server 2008 of server Antivirus is very high and usually effective for workstations upwards and obviously he would appreciate keeping costs down Questions I would appreciate thoughts on ideas for avoiding a costly solution Also if he got Malware on it e g Rootkit or Delta would current Bleeping Computer tools e g Rkill RogueKiller etc still work on the server - or does it require another approach I am asking fior advice BEFORE he gets started while options are open Thanks in advance guys
The answer is fairly simple. Just read the details on the site -
Microsoft Security Essentials is available for small businesses with up to 10 PCs.
• Microsoft Security Essentials:
Microsoft updated it’s free Anti-Virus solution at the end of 2010 to support Windows 2008/R2.
This is easily one of the better free offerings as Microsoft has updated this solution to complete directly with some of the biggest solutions, such as Mcafee and Symantec paid versions.
When downloading, simply choose Windows Vista / Windows 7, as Microsoft has yet to update the website.http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Halite is a really nice open-source torrent client with full support for Windows 7. It comes in both x86 and x64 and is really light-weight but powerful and full-featured. It's very much like uTorrent.
Halite is a BitTorrent client based on the libtorrent library from Rasterbar.com. The program is written in C++ relying on the Boost libraries and WTL. It is open sourced under the MIT and/or Boost software licence.
didn't know about this one, thankshttp://www.sevenforums.com/software/21999-halite-x86-x64-free-torrent-client.html
