I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to Eight Forums,

This could be a network card driver issue and depending on the chipsets of your computer. Some Users have encountered disconnection issue after upgrading from 8 to 8.1, possible solution is to try downloading the latest driver for your network card from the manufacturer's site. Also, please check out this Thread.

For Broadcom NIC drivers try downloading the Windows 7 driver, check out this Thread.

Hi All,
After patching the updates of an existing Windows 8.1pro Client, I'm unable to connect to shared folder of Windows 2003 Server...But, you can connect by typing the IP of the Server....Eg: \\ but not by the Server \\Tac-Server...
Please note that the Windows update went smoothly without any error and now it's showing no more windows update but directly upgrade to Windows 10.
Can you please help me to sort out this issue.

Hello Guys,

Is there a way via scipting to force a pc to refresh their local printer
settings from the print server ? We have enabled Duplexing as the default for
printing ( conserve that paper ! ) for our HP Laserjet printers on the
Print Server, but if a user goes on their local printer settings and unchecks
duplexing, it will not re-pull that device setting from the print server
unless you delete and then re-add the printer on the local machine. Is there
a way to have the printer settings pulled from the server without have to
delete and then readd the locally installed network printer ?

Hi all I m not sure if this is in the correct section but to me this seems to be a connection issue rather than a hardware issue We have an Epson XP- wireless all in one printer which has been printing fine for the last few days and will successfully print with all of the laptops in the house except for one This issue Unable print connect communicate server with (-2) Epson error, to wirelessly cannot has began today and printing previously has been fine Unable to communicate with Epson connect server (-2) error, cannot wirelessly print When attempting to print for example a webpage using the normal methods of printing an error dialogue will show on the computer screen printer remains in its normal state stating Unable to communicate with the EPSON connect server - I have tried printing on another laptop in Unable to communicate with Epson connect server (-2) error, cannot wirelessly print the house and it works perfectly fine so it is identifiable as a problem with this specific computer - not the network connection for the whole house etc I have gone through our McAfee firewall settings and all services that are to do with the printer seem to have full access and if they hadn t I changed it so they did but still nothing Unable to communicate with Epson connect server (-2) error, cannot wirelessly print If it helps at all there seems to be some form of communication with the printer and the computer itself as when I ping the printer s IP address it comes back with normal replies The network connection status sheet appears normal apart from the Epson Connect Status being disconnected However when I try to load the Epson Connect set up program it says the service is unavailable and the connection failed Anyone have any ideas Thanks Computer details Sony Vaio PCG- M OS Windows nbsp

Hello all

Recently I installed a new router that gives me DLNA capabilities with a HD.

To do this it has a Media Server in it.

Oddly once this is enabled in the router, the stand alone print server device I have had for a long time (that lets me print from anything on the network) that is plugged into it the router suddenly shows up in my Network of explorer and other pages showing items on the Network.

Kinda not a really big deal but just one more thing I would not like to show there, so was just wondering if there is anyway to make it back hidden again.

Note, I do not want to remove it, or effect the server device, or any of its printer capabilities, just don't want to see it.

Thanks for any help.

A:Hide print server in Network?

If you have enabled DNLA in your router, I don't think that there's a work around to disable it.

If the print server is connected to a Server (Windows 2003, 2008 Server and higher versions), there's a way to disable this by modifying the registry from the Server where the print server is configured.

Our home has a mixed-platform network composed of three Windows 7 machines, two Vista machines, and (hopefully) one Windows XP print server. I would love to upgrade the print server to Windows 7, but it doesn't have enough RAM.

How can I connect the Windows XP print server to my home network? I don't need the ability to share files over the network. I simply need to be able to print directly to the laserjet from any of my networked machines.

I've poked around the forums and elsewhere on the Internet, and have come across variants of this question but haven't found any clear-cut instructions that explain how to do this.

The few Windows 95 and Windows 98 computers we have left are all getting the same failure to print due to unknown network error type message. I'm having sporadic issues with many users connected over the network to a print server. If the printer is their default printer the application used to print will freeze/lockup until they log out / restart their machine. The only way to fix this (from my experience) is to set their default printer to something else (like Adobe PDF) or bypass the print server completely and do it by direct TCP/IP.

Has anyone ever heard of this issue and know of a fix? Think it is a driver related problem?

A:Application locks up when printing over the network via print server

right off the bat, it sounds like a driver issue or MAJOR dns issue. Are the default printer drivers PostScript by any chance? Are you offering both 64 and 32 bit drivers?

Hi I am trying to use the FTP client integrated into windows 7 to connect to a local server all the other machines on this network can connect to. All the settings seem the same. The server allows 50 concurrent connections. I am not sure why this one machine (LAN over Gigabit Switch) can't connect with the same credentials as all other machines on the network. I've looked at the firewall settings and allowed port 21 for the negotiation of the connection and listing the directory.

I am going to make a new user and password and see if that solves it.

Nothing really comes to mind, but if you're using Window's Wireless Zero Configuration maybe you need to reconfigure your wireless connection; especially if your network is protected with encryption.

I use the utilities from my wireless cards' manufacturers to connect to my WPA protectecd network and had no trouble today after the same reboot (two notebooks). Well, same reboot if you're talking about the critical update released yesterday.

Hello. I am a complete newbie to server administration. At my current job, I have been tasked with setting up a deployment server. The server is a Windows 2008 server and is not connected to the Internet. The server is a domain controller on its own domain (different from the main domain my job uses). How would I connect this server to the Internet without disrupting other users on the network? By disrupting, I mean connecting to my server instead of the main server for DNS and DHCP. The server has Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, DHCP, and WDS roles set-up.

A:Print Server won't print on new printer

Did you install the drivers for your new printer? (Obvious, sorry, but I have to ask) Best bet would be to uninstall all printers and printer software you have and start over from scratch.

The print server doesn't have to support your printer - all it does is take the data sent by your computer and forward it to the USB port. Your printer however has to support the print server. Some printers require a bidirectional connection with the computer and that cannot work over the network.

Does your print server suppirt several types of connection? It could be any combination of LPR, SMB, JetDirect and any proprietary protocols. Try something else than you are using right now.

A:"Could not connect all network drives" upon login after new server

I do not know why this happens after moving to 2012 server, but we see it too :-(

You can:
1) live with it
2) suppress the message (your link)
3) delay the appearance of the desktop
4) find another solution

The solution that you pick should depend on the problems (if any) that are caused by not having a network connection to a mapped drive. For us, the network drive connection is not re-established until the user clicks on the drive letter via Windows (file) Explorer. This created a problem for an application that we use. Embedded in that app are paths to files on the mapped drive. If there is no network connection to the mapped drive, the app would throw an error - stating that the files do not exist. This confused those using the app. The work around is to open Windows (file) Explorer and click on the mapped drive to re-establish the network connection - then retry the app.

We also had some things that ran at start up and needed that network connection to the mapped drive.

Because of those issues, we oped for solution #3 from the list above. However, that "solution" added so much delay to some of the computers during boot time, that we removed it and we are back to option #1. Those using the app still get confused, but they eventually figure out why the app cannot find the file. For the start up items, we moved files to each computer so as to not depend on the server.

This is just one of the many stupid things that Microsoft does...
...making us waste hours and hours chasing solutions.

Hi all. We have a number of NT 4 servers, one of which is PRINTSVR, a print server for our NT Workstation network. We have approximately 58 printers setup on this server and for the most part they work great. Something weird is happening, though, on an irregular basis.

On occasion the server will not print Excel spreadsheets and the only way to get it to print them is to reboot. It's not a specific printer problem because once this starts it affects all the printers. The print jobs run through their respective queues indicating that they're spooling, printing, and then they disappear and nothing comes out of the printer(s).

One of our employees has mentioned that she has noticed that the problem occurs after she has attempted to cancel a job. The next time she attempts to print from Excel nothing happens.

Any ideas? Anything would help.

A:Non Admin not able to connect OPC server in Windows Server 2003

From what I've read on this thread, you'll need to set computer-wide DCOM security permissions. You'll want to peruse that thread.

On another note, this isn't really the best spot for this question. An error message isn't a crash, hang or bsod, and the situation is more relevant to specifically the Windows Server section (even though OPC servers can and often do exist in many client versions of Windows). You'll be able to receive more help there, as it's pertinent to your needs.

I have an HP Deskjet 5440 hooked up via USB to my Dell Windows XP machine. I set the printer as "shared", installed the software on my other Windows 98SE computer, and choose that printer as the default on the 98.

I went to test out if it would print over the network, so I choose to print out a small picture. I then went to see if it was printing, which it was, so that meant that it does see the printer and can print to it. However, it was not printing out the picture, but instead about 3 pages of gibberish what looks to be programming language or a huge error.

What could this be and how can I fix it? Thanks.

One domain user recently can't see network drives and use printer. When you join a domain it automatically maps those drives and ads that printer, and it did, but now it is all gone. You can't even see disconnected drives in My computer. I am able to ping
those drives, but that's it. And this occurs only on one computer on one user. If log in to different user on that computer everything is fine and if I log in with that user on different computer it also works. Tried looking for disabled services, but couldn't

Following some suspected software errors with Win I decided to upgrade from Win to Win Pro My PC is relatively new a Haswell processor G RAM nVidia etc The install was smooth without flagged errors A bunch of quot popular quot software was installed such as Office Abby Finereader Adobe Acrobat all latest versions I have HDDs one of which is a SSD that I again called c followed by D E F with D E and F being mechanical HDDs Within days I realised that I was seeing unexplained anomalies First Files Win8.1Pro after Install Missing using File Explorer when I Missing Files after Win8.1Pro Install right clicked on a SSD or HDD eg C and then clicked Properties no usage properties were displayed And then I saw that any search on any SSD and HDD for any file or string began the progress bar moving very slowly towards the end but the progress bar never got to the end and no match was ever found for my search Then the third and worst problem became obvious I am not sure of the jargon but here goes Each C D E and F have a list of folders AND ALSO each have a few say files attached directly to the root eg C D E and F Not good practice I am told Here's the rub all of these directly attached files are no longer there The folders and their contents are but not the root-attached files I generally have good backups but these missing files were put under root till I decided on their importance Using cmd exe the files are still not visible I used to be a well informed PC and UNIX user but since retirement my skills are decreasing Does the above ring any bells any ideas please Regards Doug

A:Missing Files after Win8.1Pro Install

If you look in Disk Management does it say that you have GPT volumes? I don't know what happens when you update Windows 7 to Windows 8.x. But if it shows in Disk Management as GPT then the install converted your volumes to GPT(as opposed to MBR type.)

If it saved and restored folders I don't know why it wouldn't do the same with files directly under root.

Perhaps someone who does a lot of upgrades can tell us.

How can I get around a print server?

I have a cheap usb Lexmark X1150 printer. In past I installed this printer to my server pc. Sharing the printer with the network.

I would like to share the printer with the network without using the server pc or a print server.

What I would like to do is use a USB to ethernet adapter, attaching my printer to my Dlink DI-624 router.

I don't have a the adapter yet...

Will this work?

Any help or other ideas would be great.

A:How can I get around a print server?

Highly unlikely unless this is some peripheral from Lexmark. You'll either have to have something connected to the printer (a computer with an OS) or a print server. Something has to actually "share" the printer out and know how to handle your print jobs.

I recent received a netbook. I installed a Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router (very nice btw). I am running Vista on my PC and XP on my netbook. My Printer is an old LaserJet 6p.
Okay, so I have the router set up just fine, but here is the rub. I set-up a linksys router for my sister-in-law and was able to send docs to the printer without any trouble. My netgear is not as forthcoming with this ability... I assumed all routers assisted with the capacity unequivically...
Am I missing something.
I set my printer up on my PC to be shared. But my netbook can't seem to find it...
What do I need to do?
Any and all help, tips, and links would be appreciated!
I've browsed (googled) but I am not sure if I need to create a print server on my PC or if I am missing something very obvious...

A:Print server?

if you wire it like this

then systems attached to router#2 can reach anything on router#1
BUT not the converse.

remove the cable from the WAN side of router#2 and move it to the LAN side.
login to router #2 and disable the DHCP server.

Router#1 will then control all IP address assignments and all systems will have the same
first three portions of the IP address, eg 192.168.0.x

My Print server MAC address is : 00-05-5d-5a-04-54

I want to assign the printer server IP address and I tried the following DOS command from my XP

ARP -s 00-05-5d-5a-04-54

The command works successful, but I can not ping from my PC to Print Server.

I assume that I need to assign teh subnet also? If it is then how can I assign a subnet using ARP command?

There are Hardware Print Servers that basicaly control the flow of data from pc's to printers. Then there are Software Servers that will control the flow, drivers and anything else you configure them to do from pc to printer...

A Plotter is basically a printer, set it up as you will a printer ( via the software )...

A:Print Server Help

The way the wireless print server works is it should authenticate on your existing wireless network. These can be a pain to setup as you have to get that working and then install the printer as a network printer through the print server. These almost always come with a cd that you run to help you configure them.

Firstly, W10 doesn't see the device at all - no beeps when I connect it and can't see it when doing a scan for devices - and secondly the drivers won't install from the CD. They are the latest drivers but several years old so I guess maybe not compatable with W10?

If anyone has a suggestion to get this deice working I'd be happy to hear about it. Alternatively, does anyone have a print server running under W10 that they can recommend?

1) Uninstall WinPcap normally.

If it is not in the uninstall list, then do this instead:

Delete this file:

Then open Regedit and locate its key (might take a little effort, depending on if it is named similarly, as WinPcap, or something else even) - delete the key.

Here is the location:

2) Update your Reclusa keyboard driver -OR- alternatively, use a different keyboard with the machine:

There's a nice way to connect them via ethernet. If that's the way you want to go one of us can post JohnWill's procedure for doing so.

If your wireless router with print server is one of the few that can be configured as a wireless bridge then that should work great for you. A wireless bridge connects to your Wi-Fi network and allows you to connect other devices to it via ethernet.

Did you simply try manually specifying the type of printer rather than searching?

Step 2 implicitly says de-select automatically detect plug-n-play printer.

I believe you have to manually specify your printer type, and by trying to use plug-n-play to detect the printer you're sending LPQ enquiry (which was originally meant for the good old fashioned parallel port interface)

I've lost the power adaprer for my Linksys WPS-11 wireless print server! I believe it's 12 volts, but I don't know the polarity. Can anyone help?

A:Does anyone have a Linksys WPS-11 Print Server?

replacement parts are cheap and readily avainable. the polarity should be printed/stenciled on the back of the print server when it was made. a trip to radioshack should be all that is nessesary, assuming it uses a standard size/type connector.

I have a small network w/3 XP machines sharing a printer via a Netgear PS121 print server. All 3 print fine - to an HP PSC 950. Now I am trying to add a Vista computer. It is in the network OK, but cannot "see" the print server. I have the updated Vista driver for the PS121, but during the install I get the error that it cannot find the print server. I haven't tried it, but was wondering if I needed to connect the print server directly to the Vista computer for the intallation and then try finding it on the network. Netgear has not been a help w/this.

A:Print Server Troubles

Did you download the Vista package for this device from here?
Could this be a firewall issue on the Vista computer? Disable ALL firewalls and see if that changes the situation. Can you see other computers in Network and Sharing Center on the Vista machine?

I just bought a linksys print server so i can print from my laptop. When i installed it the printer worked for two weeks and then i started having issues with it like not printing. I called Linksys and they said that my lexmark 5150 is not compatiable with their print server......which i didn't understand because it worked fine for two weeks... i have a couple of questions 1)is there anyway i can fix this program before i have to replace the printer (because linksys said replace the printer or send the print server back to them) or 2) if i buy a new printer can anyone tell me a printer that will work with it....the printer needs to be an all-in-one. thanks any help would be appreciated!!!!!!

A:Linksys Print Server

The eternal big question.. What did you change to make it go bad? Things break all by themselves only 10% of the time. All other problems are caused by the users..

How about just uninstalling and resetting everything? Uninstall printer drivers, reset the server to factory settings. Make sure the print server has the latest firmware installed.

Usually the print server documentation lists the printers that are known to work with it.

Welcome to TSG!

It would help to know the exact versions/Service Pack of each OS.

Perhaps something from this article might help.

I've installed a Hawkings USB print server and it seems to work except I can't print! Here's what I did:

Installed print server using wizard
Installed new printer (HP) using the print server port
Test Page - nothing - print manager status show printing but nothing.

Used Hawkings config software.
Print server along with printer shows up - says congratulations - would you like to print a test page - yes - nothing!!!

Tried a different printer (Lexmark) - same results.

Any suggestions as I continue to wait for a non-busy tone reply from Hawkings?

What is the exact model of the thing? How exactly did you set it up?
What printers did you test with? Try using a different type of port (if possible)?

Im trying to connect to a small 4 port print server that is connected to a dsl router/gateway. The ip address is but whenever i enter this address into the URL it goes to the web and not to the local server. So I never go to the admin logon for the print server.

Will USB print servers return ink levels to the computer either through the normal printer monitor or through the IP address?

Will this happen in a networked printer like an Epson Workforce 40?

Anyone know how to get the Linksys wireless print server model # WPSM54G to work with 7? When the disc is inserted into my win 7 laptop... it says OS not supported

A:Print Server Question

You will need to plug in the print server to an ethernet port on the back of your router then access the print server from a web browser to configure it. You can find the IP address of the print server by going into the router config and looking at the DHCP leases. Once you find the ip address you put that into the web browser an configure your print server that way.

Not sure what the default pass and username is for your linksys print server, should be in the documentation, but usually for a linksys product it is just admin.

Please do not use all caps when posting this is considered the same as yelling and is also considered by some to be rude. What printer are you using? What are your system specs? Things such as Mobo, Processor, Ram, Video, OS, the usual. If you add your system specs to your Signature and you have other questions people can look at your system and help much easier.

I have a wireless router set up, with several laptops that network across it. I will buy a wireless print server that allows me to plug my USB printer into it, connecting it wirelessly to that network.

Here's my question: When accessing that printer wirelessly, will my laptop need to use its USB printing support drivers (which are corrupt), or will network printing replace that?

EDIT: It does, thanks for your help. Resolved

I have just moved house and am setting up my study. We have a Canon MP630 printer/scanner/copier and 2 wireless-enabled laptops. I understand that I can buy a print server which would allow me to print wirelessly from either laptop? I assume that this would need to be plugged in to the printer rather than the router? Can anyone recommend one that will allow me to scan wirelessly as well as print? I do have a second printer which I would also like to print from but I suppose that I would need a second print server for this? Am in the UK if it makes any difference.

Thanks for the help given on here - it has been really useful.

I have a DLink DP-301U print server.

The print server works great, only one minor annoyance. When the printer is turned off then on, it will not print. If you access the print server (through Internet explorer), it will say the printer is offline. I can then go and reset the print server and then it will print. Am I missing something? Is there a way to have the print server check the printer itself? I checked the DLink web site, no help.

Print server: DLInk DP-301U
Printer: HP 990Cse
Router: DLink DI-624
Operating system of computers: W2000, XP, Vista

See if you can update the firmware in the print server. Otherwise, why not just leave the printer on?

I'm trying to find a wireless USB print server that just WORKS. I tried a TRENDNet TEW-MFP1 It's a piece of junk that requires you to use their software. I want something like an old JetDirect... I can point any printer under any OS to a raw TCP/IP port, and the print jobs come out.

I've searched the archives and haven't found a solution so here I go Until a few days ago I was using a print server that connecting print to server? was connected via ethernet to my wireless router Everything worked fine and I had XP computers printing to it as well Something happened when a print job was not completed canceled at the printer- HP PSC series and now no one is able to print I've uninstalled the server and reinstalled it using the installation cd and the wizard I can quot see quot the print server in my browser and it indicates the printer is online and ready I disabled the DHCP setting and entered a static ip address However when I try to connecting to print server? connect my win computer to the printer on the server via a local printer connecting through the correct port using the IP address and connecting to print server? can't connect the troubleshooter tells me it cannot resolve the problem Furthermore when I go the next step I get a message that says the printer cannot be contacted over the network I don't know whether this is relevant or not but when I see what computers and devices are on my network using the win computer I can see the other computers but no other devices or the print server Have I missed something Thanks in advance

A:connecting to print server?

Is this a shared printer through your print server?
If you UNC to: \\printservername\
can you see the printer there? If so, can you connect to it that way?

canceled or failed job issues usually mean print spooler is frozen up. If you restart print spooler service, that generally will resolve those issues.

I have an IOGear 2-port print server (GMFPSU22W6) that works like a gem when I have an ethernet connection with my Dell XPS M1330 notebook (Vista). I have 2 USB printers attached to the PS, and the IOGear PS Control Centre shows both when I'm wired. However, as soon as I go wireless (2wire residential gateway) the Control Centre no longer sees he print server. When I'm wireless I can see it in my Network list, I can ping it, and I can get to its control console via its IP address through Inernet Explorer. But, for some reason IOGear's Control Console won't see it. The puzzle is that I had a previous unit (that I fried updating new firmware) that worked flawlessly.

Any ideas?
