Wifi Auto-Connect to two-wifi APs, problem

Q: Wifi Auto-Connect to two-wifi APs, problem

Hi All,

Win8:
I have two wifi APs in the home and I have it all set up so that one is the Internet by cell phone tether and the other is the cabled network via the router wifi.

Works just fine - except.

On wifi 1, Internet I have it set for "Connect automatically" which at boot up it does.

On wifi 2, Network I also have it set for "Connect automatically" which at boot up it does NOT do. I have to go in and connect manually even though the "Connect automatically" is checked.

It seems win8 sees "Connect automatically"and does it but then stops checking other connections. Probably a "feature."

Is there some way to force both "Connect automatically" to happen?

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There is a group policy setting for this, but even if both are connected you will only be using one of those connections at a time.

Hi all.

Have just installed a fresh copy of Win7 Home.

It's a thing of beauty and no doubt, but I have one query that I couldn't find help with from 'Help and Support'.

When I boot up my laptop I would like it to auto connect to my Wifi router and then auto launch Firefox.

I can just about figure out how to auto-run firefox from the help files but I can't find out how to auto-connect to my router as the laptop starts up.

Can anyone give me the steps to set this up?

If you could I'd be really grateful.

Thanks in advance, Ste.

A:Wifi Auto Connect?

just add a shortcut to firefox in the startup folder in your start menu.
It should then start with windows.

During the day, my laptop is connected to the internet via my phone hotspot. When I get home, I often forget to connect to my home wifi and this kills my phone's internet package very early in the month. Is it possible to make my laptop connect to my home's network when possible?

A:How to auto-Connect to a certain WIFI when possible

Probably, but it may not disconnect from one in order to connect to another.

EDIT: I should say "maybe" instead of "probably." I was thinking this was in Networking and the OS unknown. Microsoft has removed a lot of functionality from Windows 10.

A:Auto Connect to Wifi - Won't work! Any Ideas Please?

Hello Gail, welcome to SF!

It sounds a bit strange... so a question first before we try stuff..

When you say it works fine if you manually connect.... what exactly do you do?
Please don't leave out any info that you might find superfluous...

Hi all,

I am not sure what the problem is...new HP dv7-7300 windows 8 and an  i7  and the wifi connects most of the time if I let it set for about 10 seconds after shutdown, then restart. The troubleshooting part of the wifi does not come up with anything.
If I select restart and it reboots right away I see a little star or something on my signal icon which I am thinking is limited connectivity, not sure. I have to connect manually even though it is set to auto. If it sits for 5-10 minutes it will eventually connect. Router seems fine, another machine always works fine using it.
I installed an SSD right away and the machine works flawlessly aside from this issue. I didn't notice this problem with the original HD but only used it for a few hours and didn't do any quick restarts.
Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks.

A:New dv7..wifi won't auto connect half the time

Did you reinstall Windows 8 on the new ssd or cloned the drives? If you reinstalled, its possible you missed a driver or are using an outdated one. In my experience, most of the connectivity issues in Windows 8 are due to drivers.

Hi all.

Can you help me configure my Win10 to automatically connect to multiple wifi networks?

I have wifi at home so when I get to the office I have to configure the "manage wifi settings" on my laptop, click "forget" my home wifi, and manually enter the office wifi password. I repeat the same process when I get home from the office or use the wifi in my brother's house. I had this on my Windows 7 but can't figure out how to in Win10.

Minor issues, I know, but still a pain. TIA

We just got an Asus EEE netbook that has Windows Starter edition on it An annoying problem with it is that even after setting our home wifi as the Home wifi connection and I seem to auto-connect 7 doesn't Starter: startup Wifi at Windows remember also specifying that Windows 7 Starter: Wifi doesn't auto-connect at startup it should connect automatically in some dialog box during first-time setup it defaults to needing to be manually connected every time And there is no option anywhere to be found to set it for Auto So I can not reset it to auto There is no option available to do it anywhere that I can find To vent just a little how could such a really obvious flaw like this go out to market OK that's a rhetorical question Of course a NETbook ought to be able to have its wifi set to connect automatically It looks to me like some overzealous programmer has written in a non-overrideable default setting of 'manual connect' on this Thanks guy I searched online for a solution to this and could not find anything There was one set of instructions I did find that supposedly pertained to both Vista and Win but I hit a dead end because a folder it told me to go to WLANServices did not exist in this Win Starter version I have Also if anyone has the name and address of the programmer that would be good too I have a bag of something I want to mail to him thanks for any help

I have a new windows 7 laptop (home premuim x86). I can connect to my wifi as normal and set the connection to Auto connect when network is in range.

The problem is soon as i reboot the laptop it looses the setting so i have to go back into the settings for the wifi connection and re-tick the option to connect to the wifi automatically again. this happens everytime i restart the computer.

Any ideas greatly appreciated?

A:Win7 looses tick to auto-connect to wifi on bootup

Hi David201, and welcome to SF. Please fill out your system specs in more detail (e.g., what model Lenovo).

Do you have a third party firewall? Do you have any third party apps that might interfere with the wireless nic? See if the wireless adapter has management tools / applications and, if so, disable them.

About a week ago, our cable internet connection went out. Before I had a chance to reboot the modem & router, my 11 year old decided to completely reset the router to factory settings! Ugh! This caused several issues: my home network is now gone, only a unsecured factory network is available. When I try to plug my laptop into the router via ethernet cord (in order to login to router and setup secure network) my computer will not recognize the router and won't connect to internet. I tried troubleshooting with my cable provider and they say it's in my computer (IP address will not reset) and he recommended I replace my network card. However, today when I brought my laptop to work, it will instantly recognize the wifi at work. So is it really my network card that is causing issues? Please help, I'm desperate and not tech too tech savvy!

A:Possible to connect iPhone's wifi to computer that is connected by wifi to the net?

Doesn't hurt (except maybe your time) to try. Get an ad-hoc wireless network working between computer and iPhone (using dynamic addressing). Then in Network Connections bridge the two wireless connections.

If it doesn't work, show the following for the computer before you bridge and when you have the bridge.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

A:Can't connect to wifi - 'wifi doesn't have a valid IP config...

Hi there @Dee85 Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having troubles with connecting to your home network; I am happy to help. Have you tried connecting to a different network with this notebook?Does the wifi (available connections) show up on your notebook at all?Have you tried resetting your wireless router? The error you are getting sounds like the router is not passing on a local IP address to your notebook. The problem could be on either side of that. Try working through these.Troubleshooting wireless network and Internet (Windows 8)Also, you can look at the power management for your wireless adapter:Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)2. Expand the Network adapters.3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.4. Click the Power Management tab.5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.6. Click OK.7. Test. Forget the network: (Windows 8)1. Press Windows Key + C2. Click Settings.3. Click Change PC settings.4. Click Network on the left.5. Click Manage known networks.6. Click the network name.7. Click Forget.Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.Reinstall the network adapter drivers:1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.3. Expand Network adapters.4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.6. Restart your PC and test.Test an ethernet connection:Self explanatory. Test if the issue persists on a wired connection to rule out the wireless adapter hardware so troubleshooting can be directed towards the right areas.Test another connection:Many people rule out their home network as an issue if another device is working on the same network. Networking is not that simple. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to rule out settings in that device until the notebook has been tested on another network.

Wifi doesn't connect when i move away from wifi router. I have a wifi router installed in my drawing room where i get good browsing speed on phones and laptops. But the problem starts when i take my laptop from drawing room to my bedroom which is not more than 5 mtrs from router. Wifi signal drops to zero on laptop whereas it remains decent on phones. Earlier my laptop used to connect in bedroom as well..This is happening lately. Is there any solution?

Hi there,

I have a new problem that has just cropped up today. I am no longer able to connect to public wifi or my phone's wireless hotspot. My laptop either will not connect or connect with limited access. It has connected without issue in the past and as soon as I returned home it connected to my wifi here.

What I did notice is I am connected to an unidentified network with no internet access in addition to my home wireless network:
Specs:
Acer Aspire S7 392
Windows 8.1 64 bit
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260 (driver updated)
Disabled my firewall and antivirus

I just connected to my phone's hotspot again and here is what I am coming up with:
Attachment 57082

And when I run ipconfig/renew
Attachment 57083

Any ideas what could be causing this?

I have a HP Notebook 15. I restarted my laptop this morning and when it came back on, all options for connecting to the internet via WiFi were gone. I am able to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, and everything works this way. There are no options whatsoever to connect to WiFi or reset the connection or anything, however the WiFi itself is working because other devices in the house are connected to it. I followed a HP technical support online page, which provided step-by-step instructions of various ways to reconnect to WiFi but nothing worked. I tried restarting the computer, updating the driver software, making sure it wasn't in airplane mode, and troubleshooting. Nothing worked. What should I try next?

I really regret why I purchased Asus at first place. The experience has been so much frustrating and waste of money, time and energy.

Setting connections as 'metered' is used as a fudge to inhibit updates by people with the Home edition as they don't have an option to defer updates.

I recently updated my Inspiron 14" 5459 to the Windows 10 anniversary update, i noticed that when my wifi access point changes or wifi signal drops or turning off wifi, my laptop semi-freezes, you could still scroll with the mouse or track pad and select open tabs but that's all, clicking other icons and even the windows start menu does not work, if you wait for more than 5 minutes, everything goes back to normal. Waiting around for about 5 minutes is annoying so what I do is press ctrl alt delete and from there restart the laptop. my wifi adapter is updated to the most recent version and also both graphics card (intel hd 520 and amd radeon m335) is also updated to the latest version.  Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue?

A:after Windows 10 anniversary update, Inspiron 5459 freezes if wifi is turned off or wifi access point is changed, is there a solution to this problem?

Please confirm the wireless card from the device manger or the network control panel. Also please update the BIOS firmware to the latest version. The BIOS update should ideally be version v1.2.2. Also please try system out with  a LAN cable as well to confirm if is indeed caused by the wireless. Though this may not run a complete diagnostics on the network you can run a hardware diagnostics on the computer using the following steps

Shutdown the computer
Hold the 'Fn' key and turn on the computer
Let go of the 'Fn' key after 2 seconds

This is will initiate the H/w diagnostics. Please let us know if it completes or if  you run into any errors. If  you do run into any errors.

Hi there

At home we have 2 routers, our flat is big so in ourder to get better signals I use second wifi router connected directly to 1. So we can use No1 but not able to use second router. Problems is No 2 router shows that it has network from N1 but doesnt send SSID. So all laptops in flat can't detect second Wif router. I disconnected both, waited for 1 min, plugged everythin then connected but same no SSDI is sent by router 2, what could be a problem?

A:Solved: Problem to connect to my wifi router

Hi koshak1981, and welcome to TSG.

Have you confirmed that WiFi is enabled on the second router and on a different channel that the first router and different channel from any channel that may be used by nearby neighbors with routers?

A:WiFi Problem Can't connect to secured networks

Does your Wireless adapter use a different utility to monitor wireless networks other then the Windows Utility? There may be another icon in the System Tray in the lower right hand corner that is disabled. Usually right clicking this icon and enabling it should work. Or you may need to find it in the All Programs list to start it. There should be a section where you can edit the saved password for your wireless adapter and once that is removed, you can retype the password for the secured wireless network you are trying to connect to.

A:auto start for wifi

Hi have you checked in control panel then device manager go to the network devices click on the little triangle on the left to expand the view, then choose the wifi device driver. Right click on it, and choose properties, then power management and check if the computer is allowed to turn of the device to save power.

I have two wifi APs (let's say AP-1 and AP-2) and I sometimes have to switch from one to the other. The AP-1 is my main AP so it is always set with "Connect Automatically" for boot up. But, a lot of the time it does not connect to either AP on boot.

When I need to use AP-2, I select AP-1 and click "Disconnect."

I select AP-2 and Click "Connect" leaving "Connect Automatically" un-checked.

After using AP-2, I again select it and click "Disconnect."

Then select AP-1 and make sure the "Connect automatically" is checked, then Connect.

At the next reboot, about 40% of the times it connects to AP-1 but the rest of the time it connects to neither even though "Connect Automatically" is still checked..

Anyone have some thoughts on how to force this so that it always connects to AP-1 on booting up?

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

A user guide is available here
http://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/xirruswifiinspectorguide1-2-0

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)
Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

This is the idea, I have DVR for CCTV and I need to configure it for port forwarding, and since it has only LAN connection it is not possible to connect in pocket wifi, so i used to have a wireless router since it has a LAN connection. But I do not know how to do this connection as the wireless router to be a bridge in my pocket wifi to DVR, Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

A:How to connect pocket wifi to wireless router, to connect the dvr for cctv?

I'm not at all sure I understand. Are you trying to use the wireless router as a Wireless Bridge (to connect to the pocket wifi via wireless and the DVR via ethernet)? If so, does the router have wireless bridge (or AP Client) mode?

I'm a new Plusnet customer and I cannot connect to the internet using wifi I just get a page saying the broadband is down. So I tried using an ethernet cable and after manually setting this up I can use the internet. I accidentally disconnected the cable yesterday but the internet didn't fault, it's now working wirelessly. I can connect to the wifi using my mobile and iPad but I cannot connect to the internet. A new router has been sent and the problem still persists, a bt engineer has also visited but cannot find a solution.

Can anybody please help me?

A:I can't connect to wifi but connect with an Ethernet cable works, even when it isn't plugged in

It gets confusing as to which device is being used so as a guideline
disable one or the other (wifi vs wired) and don't allow both to be active at the same time. Technically, which ever device gets an IP address from your router will become the gateway to your ISP - - ignoring the connectivity of the second device to access your router.

With a laptop, we just toggle the keyboard to enable/disable wifi and the wired is easy - - just pull the cable out.

create a desktop shortcut to \windows\system32\devmgmt.msc
to control the devices (needs admin access)
expand [+] network adapters and you'll see the list
mine are

Dell Wireless 1502 ....
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
Just right-click->disable and you can always right-click->enable

The png posted shows both are enabled and the wired has the gateway.
If the cable is disconnected, this is quite impossible.

SO, first control which device is to be used and then make the connection.

A:Wifi adapter not working after auto-update on 3/30/16

Well, I've been trying the standard help route - I have an HP trouble ticket 302-717-3415.  I?ve been trying to get a callback since last Tuesday. HP Support (Floor Supervisor Rhim) says they can?t move without the approval of the case manager (Amanda), the case manager line has gone to voicemail for 6 days.  Meanwhile, my wireless adapter driver is still not working.  I believe there is a mismatch among driver files and \inf files and I need an expert to help sort this out.  Can someone please help. Did anyone in else in the community receive this auto-update on 3/30/2016? Thank you,Rich

how to access device manager for different windows versions

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm

Hold the Windows key and press Pause key, should now open to allow device manager to be seen, see the menu on the left hand side

on a laptop you may need to use Hold the Windows key and press FN key + the pause key

If the above does not work then

For Windows 7 or Vista

Click on the Start Orb > In the Start Search box type > device manager and then press enter
or
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

For Windows 8 , 8.1 or Windows 10

If you happen to be using a keyboard with Windows 8, the quickest way to open Device Manager is via its shortcut on the Power User Menu, accessible by pressing the WINDOW key and the X key together.
If on a touch screen - have a read here http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/device-manager-windows-8.htm

Once you are in device manager then navigate to:

network adapters, click on the + > post back the devices that are listed under network adapters
are there any yellow ! ? or a X

I've been trying to find a way for the follwoing to happen;

My mum and dad have a static caravan and have paid for the sites wifi for the year, which works fine. When you open a browser it autoredirects you to a login page which needs your username and password.

This is fine for their laptop but they have a Media Centre which I would like to have a internet connection at boot up at least to chekc for updates/tv guide etc. The only way this can happen is if they get the keyboard and mouse out, drop MediaCentre, open IE and login in. Obviously this isn't going to happen, at least not often.

So is it possible to get a script that;

1, Run's at start up or as a task that somehow logs you onto the internet automatically?

Afraid not, it is this way by design.

The only way you maybe able to do it is by getting the administrators to allow your MAC address. I doubt that they will do this though.

I am almost positve that I have a virus

when i go to the wireless network properties and click the security tab, on the dropdown menu security type option, it will auto scrool down to 802.1X option. I cant select the the correct one. The setting is saved as the correct one but open the tab and click save it will save it as the wrong type (802.1X) and I will no longer be able to connect to the network.

a couple of other things:
-when in firefox, if i hit the ctrl button and only that button, it will zoom out the window. As if I am also using the mouse scrool while hitting the ctrl botton
-sometime in firefox the tab im on will auto go back to the prior screen as if i hit the back button

See first bullet point. Second, leave it alone for what the ISP pre-set it to be.

Just to start off I am COMPLETELY clueless and have no tech savvy whatsoever so simple language would be appreciated I ve owned this laptop for a little over a year and all this time I ve been able to connect to Wifi without a problem This morning the icon at the bottom left of but Laptop with Ethernet will Wifi, won't cord an to My connect connect the screen told me there was no Internet connection available when I troubleshot it it suggested using the Ethernet cord to connect The Ethernet cord connects them fine and the internet connection becomes available but I m still unable to use the Wifi This is an issue with my laptop because all the other devices My Laptop won't connect to Wifi, but will connect with an Ethernet cord in my house are able to connect to the Wifi and the modem is showing all the appropriate lights and such I ve tried turning it off and on again but alas this once that method has failed I ve also tried resetting the modem and it made no difference Last night I was uninstalling various programs that I didn t need and that s the only thing I ve done differently to my usual computing habits I don t think I removed anything unless I knew what it was but it s possible I accidently removed something important I don t know if that has any relevance or not but it s all I can think of as the reason for this My laptop is a Toshiba Qosmio and the system I use is Windows My modem is Telstra Bigpond Please help D nbsp

A:My Laptop won't connect to Wifi, but will connect with an Ethernet cord

How far from the router are you? I experience the same thing occasionally on my laptop.
I usually have to switch the wifi switch off on the laptop & on then I reboot & I'm back online. My laptop & tower are both about 50' away & on the lower floor where the router is. Good luck.

I've looked absolutely everywhere I can think of and I can't find a way to disable auto-joining unknown networks. There has to be a way to do it, otherwise that would be a huge security flaw. When in range of my own router or any other access point I have saved, it's fine. However, When I take my laptop elsewhere, it automatically joins unprotected networks, which I don't want to happen. How can you stop Windows 7 from automatically joining unknown wireless networks?

I prefer to keep my home WiFi network from public view by disabling the SSID broadcast i e quot hiding quot the network With two modem routers a Belkin Play Max F D ADSL modem router and now a Cisco EPC DOCSIS modem router on two computers home-built desktop and Acer TM with SSID network auto-reconnect Cannot to hidden WiFi T notebook after the initial connection Win Pro would not reconnect without tediously re-entering the SSID name and password Once it does connect it displays the original SSID name with a new one with an incrementally increasing appended number like I was manually deleting them all except the original using netsh until I realized you can lt right-click gt on an entry in the screen above Cannot auto-reconnect to WiFi network with hidden SSID and choose quot Forget this network quot This is the process I go through each time to re-connect Is there something I'm missing I read that if Win saves too many WiFi connections it cannot quot remember quot them to automatically reconnect to them so on the notebook I deleted all but wpcTrue the original and it now automatically reconnects although occasionally it will add a new connection with an incrementally increased number -- currently the notebook shows both wpcTrue and wpcTrue I had used the notebook on the road so had about five WiFi connections saved On the Desktop my home network is the only WiFi connection I've ever made However no matter what I do on the desktop it NEVER remembers to automatically log on when the SSID is not broadcast I even tried manually setting up a connection via Network and Sharing Center gt Set up a new connection or network to no avail -- the desktop computer will not automatically reconnect I doubt that this is relevant but the Belkin modem router the Belkin USB adapter I use on my desktop computer and the notebook's Broadcom internal modem are all b g n The Cisco modem router is b g If I quot unhide quot the SSID i e broadcast the SSID all is well in the world Both computers automatically reconnect to the modem router If I hide the SSID and then disconnect or reboot the desktop computer will not automatically reconnect Any ideas PS I just noticed that the pop up WiFi connection column shows quot WiFi- Off quot -- what does the quot Off quot mean And why is it quot - quot My notebook just shows quot WiFi' period The first image with quot WiFi Off quot was from a previous Win installation on the desktop computer I decided to change from EFI-boot to non-EFI so reinstalled Win I simply used the old image as a quick way to show how the connection name assignment runs away

A:Cannot auto-reconnect to WiFi network with hidden SSID

Same problem here.

Microsoft's support says this is not a technical issue and refuses to assist.

By not best workaround is to delete all profile, do a 1st connection to hidden network then disable automatic connection to the network; hidden network will be listed and it will be possible to manually click on connect button.

Imagine that. On another board, it was a neighbor, and I closed that because you are violating the terms of service for the ISP. Now you're here, and suddenly it's a new story.

In any case, I'm closing this one too, since I really doubt the second story!

You may want to read the TSG Rules, we don't assist in illegal activities here either.

My HP Envy m6 laptop cannot connect to our wifi connection and only connects using the cable connection, ethernet. It was still fine when I downloaded windows 8.1 but all of a sudden displays limited/no connectivity. I tried everything I can including resetting tcp ip settings thru command prompt, finding other drivers till someone suggested me to put my laptop back to windows 8. Still didn't fix the problem. Now, my laptop does not access wifi nor detect any wireless connection whether our home wifi, or others. Please do help me. I really need to fix this. I'm a student and I badly need wifi connection since its the only available connection in our school. I am not knowledgable about this issue and it would be really great if someone could help. Thank you so much!

Hello I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card Ralink rt turbo and have plugged in and installed drivers Initially the drivers the company I bought it from 7 any Ralink WiFi not windows RT61 card, signals wifi Lan receiving told me to install didn't work but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website However these didn't work either When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected however in device manage it is both connect Ralink RT61 WiFi Lan card, windows 7 not receiving any wifi signals and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true This case however I get nothing Windows says that the Ralink RT61 WiFi Lan card, windows 7 not receiving any wifi signals wireless card is experiencing problems it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers Ralink RT61 WiFi Lan card, windows 7 not receiving any wifi signals that should have worked and they haven't I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows it works perfectly fine without any hassle so the card is definitely working Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome Thanks Aieden

Hi there

This USB Wifi adapter seems to be a MEGA performer --Lovely finally to be able to THINK of getting rid of LAN cables all over the place.

I've no probs with decent HD Movie streaming from a SERVER with one of these (I unplugged the LAN and inserted the USB Wifi adapter into a USB3 slot --note this needs genuine USB3 to work at proper speed). My Home router can deliver 802.11ac so no probs there.

Brilliant piece of kit and NO MORE CABLES !!!!!!. Wifi will soon be able to deliver comparable speeds to LAN especially for HOME networks. !!!

Here's the UK Link but is available in US and Europe. In any case it's delivered (in my case) by Amazon S.A.R.L (Luxembourg) so no tax !!!. even though I ordered from UK web site --they will ship outside UK tax free.

hello.

i have cable internet that is connected to a belkin wireless router. one computer gets slow internet access when connected to this. multiple other computers get better speed. the one affected computer gets fast speeds when accessing the internet at other locations, like a friend's house. also, the affected computer gets fast speeds when connected to the router by a cable.

so the problem seems to be very specific to the connection between these specific devices.

the laptop in question is a thinkpad e420 running windows 7.

thank you in advance for any solutions or suggestions you might have.

Hi Cromsy,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as that. You are connected to the router fine with your computer, but that tells us nothing about the ipod because wireless is off (but that's not the whole story either - you need something extra to do what you want). The following article should tell you what you need and how to do it: How to Connect iPod Touch to Windows 7 Ad-hoc Wireless Network. Although it says Windows 7, there are procedures for Vista as well (and the software will work with Vista).

I hope this helps.

I am currently stationed in Germany, and live in a village that has horrible internet. I cannot stream netflix, hulu, and downloads take several hours.

Is there a way to combine the internet that my cell phone receives and the wifi router I have at home to increase speed?

I have the ability to create a wifi hotspot from my cell phone if this helps.

Just something I thought up in my head, and wanted to find out if it is possible. Thanks in advance.

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)

I was at a home today and connected to their private home network on a Surface Pro 4. This showed their network as Connected. However, the internet kept going to a local open BT network instead! I couldn't select this open network anywhere to exclude it. Thinking about it now, I should have disabled/reenabled Wifi first, and then tried a reboot after that. But otherwise, is there any hidden setting to ignore certain networks?

A:Using 'open' access Wifi point instead of connected private wifi.

Hello and welcome to the TenForums

If the home where you were had a BT hub then it most probably was offering both an open connection also known as BT Wifi or BT Fon and also a secured wifi connection which would have an SSID number with a BThub name with some random numbers and letters. It is possible that you connected to the open one and were then automatically directed to a BT broadband page on the internet to pay for use of the BT hotspot service that they provide via customers routers. See this article for more info: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/d...fi-with-fon%3F

The reason why I signed up in this forum is s I can seek help fron those that might know more about computer than me, in order to solve my problem

A few days ago, my laptop was working perfectly fine. But then, I turned my computer off, the next day, everything started up as normal, with Windows 7 Home Premium still in the backgrounds when I am logging in but then, the network connecter won't automatically start. So I was left without internet for a bit. Whats more, I noticed that the taskbar, which was always semi-transparent before, is now white. As well as all the title bars of the programs that I open, turned into blue!

Is computer has always ran Windows 7 as far as I am aware, but e way the taskbar, and the title bars, are behaving, reminds me of windows xp.

I first tried to look up how to solve my wifi problem. I manually opened the network connecter in the control panel, and tried to "Connect to a network". But it didn't detect any wifi servers! Which is odd since I had always used the one my family used, and I am using wifi on that server at this moment!

When I tried to use troubleshoot on my "internet connections", it first showed me that the issue was "The Diagnostic Policy Service is not running" but then every other time I tried to troubleshoot again, it doesn't show any problems detected

And with the problem of the taskbar, I tried to search solutions, and found some. I right-clicked while on the desktop and clicked on "personalize". And my sources tol me to select an aero theme. However, all ofthe aero themes are greyed-out, and I am unable to select any of them. The only theme that I am able to select is my "unsaved theme", which has a square with a blue pirtion on the top that has a white bar in it, and the bottom, which is the white portion, and has a black bar across it. All the themes with the roundish edges and clear squares are unselectable...

I have no idea whats wrong with my computer now, would somebody please help me? Alnost all other programs are functioning fine, but the wifi is not connecting(Oh, and I am unable to adjust my screen brightness)

All help are thanked!

BTW, I wrote this on my iPad mini

No idea what the problem might be but it doesn't sound good.

Have you considered using System Restore to take your system back to when it was working correctly?

This would be by far the easiest way to fix this type of problem, the link shows you how.

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

A:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.

I am considering using a powerline system to give me additional wifi cover, but I am unclear how the available wifi connection is protected. They make a great deal of encrypting the traffic over the power circuit, but no mention is made of protecting the wifi connection. Surely, the risk with these is the same as with a wireless router?

Anyone got any experience of this?

I couldnt understand your Problem Completly.
But as per me researving IP address for your Computer in the Next router would solve your Problem.
Also please check if the router 2 has DHCP enabled in it.

Hello,

i just received my new PC with a brand new Gigabyte UD3H Wifi motherboard and a HD7950 GPU.

I installed all the drivers available from the Gigabyte website for some reason the wifi function simply does not work. Also, the screen plugged into the 7950 works fine but the other screen connected into the motherboard gets the message "no signal detected".
How can i fix this?

I am using HP 14 notebook with the window of 8.1 and 64-bit operating system, Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn wifi adapter with the driver v5.0.37.0 can't connect to wifi although it can detect the available wifi. What can I do to solve the problem? I had tried to disable the wifi adapter and enable again, format laptop but still cannot solve the problem.

A:Can't connect to wifi

Hi @Boonlee, Thank you all the information on what you have done. If the HP 14 Notebook detects Wireless that means the adapter is working. Here is a link to troubleshoot the Wireless.  I would change the Channel on the router. Routers are capable of communicating to your Notebook on several different channels. If your neighbours Wi-Fi is  on the same channel, your network speeds might have issues. Try opening Device Manager, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. In Device Manager, locate the network adapters, and then double-click the device name.Click the Driver tab, and then click uninstall Driver. Please remove all the network adapters. Restart the computer. Please let me know how this goes. You can say thanks for trying to help by clicking the Thumbs Up below!.Thanks.

A:help me connect to wifi!!

If you'd deleted something vital for network detection, your home wi-fi connection wouldn't work either so I don't think that's the issue.

Maybe there just aren't any networks in range when your laptop doesn't find any away from home?

Hi guys, I'm having trouble connecting two of my devices to the internet via WiFi. One is a laptop (Lenovo G560)-- I'm getting a "Windows was unable to connect to XXX" when trying to connect, and when I do an ipconfig /release, it says "No operation can be performed on Wireless Network Connection while it has its media disconnected." I've tried reinstalling the wireless drivers but it doesn't seem to be working.

The second is a desktop with a TP-Link USB adapter. Same problem here as well.

The weird thing is that everything else works. I suspected that it's my modem or router, but my phone can connect fine, as does my Chromebook. My primary desktop is working fine via ethernet connection.

Thanks.

A:Cannot connect to WiFi

For testing try disabling the encryption on the router and see if you can connect.
On the Lenovo G560
Press Windows flag key + R and in the open field type: cmd (press enter)
In the command prompt type: netsh wlan show all (press enter)
Copy the results and paste in your next reply.

What changes do I need to make to be able to get back on - I can't use IE or Chrome as me but IE works as guest.

If those three steps do not resolve the issue, try this document published by Microsoft for networking issues: Wired and wireless network problems. You can change the operating system with the dropdown in the upper-right corner of the document. Please let me know if this helped. Thank you for participating in the HP Forums! Hi,

So basically my machine used to me my works machine with the domain etc... Therefore internet was under the workgroup of course.

However I now use this computer at home and no longer need the domain and workgroup connection but my Personal wifi instead.

I removed the domain name and I can log in normally, however I can not connect to wifi. It restricts me to using only an Etherley connection. Displaying only an Ethernet connection with an X over it.

so how do I change it so I can use wifi as you would of this was your personal computer at home

when i click the repair bit, it gets to 'renewing your ip address' and stops and says it cannot be completed.
i have connected to other wireless networks before, but haven't used wireless for about a year or so.
