How to change User Name in Registry

Q: How to change User Name in Registry

OK, I just clean installed Win 8.1 on a new motherboard and CPU, I left the internet turned off so that I only have a local Admin account.
The issue is I screwed up with my user name Clinton J. Wright I put an extra space between j. Wright
I have change this using control panel/ user
But I still can't log on to the rest of my Peer to Peer network, as I have that set up to use" Authorized Users" with my user info on all units.
So I'm thinking there must be a register entry that I'm going to have to edit to correct this issue, Anyone have any ideas

Preferred Solution: How to change User Name in Registry

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: How to change User Name in Registry

You would have to rename your user I think. See Renaming user account folder

It would probably be easier to set up a new user and delete the old one though.

Hi! I did an new install of windows 7 (home first then upgraded to pro)
I want to hide a user by doing this on the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows NT \CurrentVersion \Winlogon \SpecialAccounts\ UserList ..then add dword32 by my username value to 0
I did this on my old laptop and it worked perfectly.

Now I've done the same thing on my new laptop. It works but stangely, the folder still appears in c\users.

The user is not visible in the panel control\users or at the start of the PC

I'm sure i've done the right thing, what is causing this? Could it be a bad install of windows? Please let me know if you have a idea!

Thank you very much for your help!

In order to get rid of the *.zip folder view in WinExplorer on a64bit WIn7 system I tried to delete (according to some tutorials) the Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID\{E88DCCE0-B7B3-11d1-A9F0-00AA0060FA31}

Unfortuantely this is NOT possible immediately.
When I try to delete it then I got a popup

Cannot delete.... Error while delting key.

Ok, so I tried to get ownership of this key by right clicking-->Permissions
then selecting "Users" and enabling "Full control" the "apply" button but I got here:

Unable to save permission changes on ....
Access denied"

Why?

This last error comes for all Owners: SYSTEM, Administrators, trusted Installers.

I have Admin rights. So what more do I need to get ownership?

Even worse: Every change in owner is rejected as well.

Peter

Having just learned from an OLD post here that renaming a user account apparently doesn't change the order in which the corresponding logon icons appear at startup -- due to the order being apparently determined by when each folder was originally created, which was when this computer was first opened back in 2011 -- I want to be able, after creating a new user account, to migrate data from the account whose name I changed. I'd been previously suggested to try User Profile Wizard from Forensit.com... would this be a good idea, or can you suggest something different?

I have been system deleting by Problem what's registry different registry, profiles and user via properties? deleting the deleting profiles using the method documented here for over the last years kb This has never been an issue as it was an effective way to remove corrupted local profiles Recently I've noticed changes in the environment where deleting the profile by going to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion ProfileList To remove all profiles remove the ProfileList key nbsp and going toMy Computer or Windows Explorer to remove the appropriate Windows Profiles lt var class quot sbody-var quot gt User name lt var gt folders To remove all profiles remove the Windows Profiles folder Is now causing an issue where end users are not able to access the registry enabling screensaver configurations and defaulting the nbsp MSN homepage These settings are usually locked down and greyed out nbsp by group policy and the home page is usually our intranet Problem deleting user profiles via registry, what's the different deleting by registry and system properties? page I've found the only way to fix this is to remove the profiles via the System properties method by right clicking on My Computer gt Properties gt User Profiles gt and deleting the corrupted user profiles one by one Only this time consuming method appears to let user profiles refresh correctly and reapplies the group policies correctly by locking down components My question is what is the difference between deleting profiles via the 'System Properties' windows as opposed to the 'Registry profile list and C users' method

When a new user is created in Windows, either the first user when Windows is installed or any user later on, and the new user has signed in to Windows first time, the user profile is created and named. Any later username change does not change the name of the user profile.

An example, if my ex-wife had created a user account for me on a Windows computer she had most probably named it as "Idiot". If I then later on changed my username on that computer from "Idiot" to "Kari", my profile had remained as "Idiot".

Basically, the easiest way to change this is to create a new user account and profile with the preferred name, copy the personal files and folders from C:\Users\Wrong_Username folder to C:\Users\New_Username, and delete the user Wrong_Username completely.

In your case now you can try the method told in this tutorial: User Profile Folder - Change User Account Folder Name

Hi,
I have a Windows 8.1 system on a lap top that was used by a former employee. Her name was still on user name and I couldn't change it without Admin privileges (otherwise was asking for a smart card). Found out how to get in to admin in safe mode with Net
User Admin yes- then discovered that the old log in and information / desk top is no longer available. The docs are under Users (old employee's name) in C drive, but the docs and settings no longer show up and the admin log in is the only one available - no
option to change users.
When I went in and said Net User Admin no - thinking if I disabled admin user it would go back to the old log in -  there was no log in available at all.

Help?

I'm thinking I'm not the first nor the last to have MS trick me into changing my User Name from Local to (in my case) an outlook.com email account. Now I'm forced to sign in every time I log on. And FWIW, I prefer to be fully in charge of my devices.

I surely would appreciate some guidance on the proper way to switch back to a Local User and disassociate my computer from outlook.com. Many thanks in advance for reading this and all replies.

I have Windows XP home w/SP2 and I am buffaloed. I thought I was a knowledgable user, but I have been trying to stop a program from autorunning. I have deleted the value in the registry under the "RUN" key of H_KEY LOCAL_MACHINE, and CURRENT-USER, then I exit, and as soon as I open regedit again, the values are back like they were, ignoring my deletion. How do I save the changes I make to text strings in the XP registry?

I have administrator priveleges.

I miss Windows 3.1, where you only had sys.ini and win.ini to fool with, and when you changed something it stayed changed. Hahahaha.

I followed the advice in another forum today (Aquarium and Da Vinci media enhancements mistakenly uninstalled via Add/Remove Windows Components in The Elder Geek) and ran a link suggested to me, http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm; now however I need to undo this registry change; my Windows XP style is now grayed out in Properties, and I'm stuck with some old modified theme with tiny font and Outlook looks like a really old version. One was "desktoptab.reg" and the other was "restorethemes.reg".Please help.jackiemariePavilion dv6135nr laptopMedia Center EditionIntel Centrino Duo Core 2 T55002048MB DDR2 System

Hello guys...
Well...i managed to ruin my windows 7...now i don't know how bad....the idea is that i can use my laptop but i am logged in with a temporary account...
Yesterday night i was changing my user name in the registry...and i think i change quite a few registrys...and i can't use the system restore to go back ...
Is there any way how can i fix this?
How about if i try to modify registry back to my previous user?
In not....shame to me )
but hey...this is how we learn right?
Now actually i am planing to install a fresh windows 7...any way i was planing to change to 64 bit...
Best regards guys!

A:How can i change back my registry?

Yep, system restore would have saved your bacon if you had created a restore point before doing that.

You might see if starting over using the tutorial below may be able to help you fix your user account by changing everything back to what it was originally.User Profile Folder - Change User Account Folder Name
If not, then you might see if you may be able to create a new administrator account to use instead, and copy what you want from the old account.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I use a d program called Blender There are different ways to render in their GPU registry change TdrDelay cycles render engine One of those ways is within the viewport This allows you change materials and lighting on the fly and visually see the changes occuring on the fly The other way is just a standard render that uses tiling and progressively builds the render until it is complete OK what is occuring is I am having my GPU crash when doing GPU TdrDelay registry change the viewport rendering only I can render the identical scene without crashing doing a non-viewport render It is important to note that these crashes ONLY occur when using Blender GPU TdrDelay registry change I use many other graphic programs without any issue On a Blender forum it was mentioned that the reason it is occuring is too short of a TdrDelay default is sec they recommended a registry GPU TdrDelay registry change change to sec This is probably more of a workaround to whatever code problems are occuring in the render engine I just wanted to get a quot second opinion quot from some windows GPU gurus to see if I could possibly cause any big harm by doing this

In order to speed up my start menu, I changed my "MenuShowDelay" value in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop" from 400 to 200. It stayed there until recently when I installed an NVidia card using the NVidia reference drivers, and after that the value was set back to the default 400. I have tried repeatedly to change it back to 200, but after logging out and back in, or after restarting, the value has reverted to 400. I suspect it has something to do with NVidia's "nView" desktop manager, but I still have the same problem when it is disabled. Any ideas how to get around this?

A:W2K undoes my change to the registry

I would suspect that it is doing something myself. The first cuplrit to check is the transparancy settings. The documentation talks about how it can be applied throughout the system menus.

Some programs even though they are disabled, still load up parts of themselves. I wonder if this is what is happening.

You could always download Startup Control Panel and truly disable something from loading on reboot http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

You can always re-enable a program later.

I would also run Adaware from www.lavasoftusa.com to see if any spyware or anything has gotten into your system. This never hurts to get rid of some of the junk that otherwise useful programs also install.

I looked around in TC Monitor and found an entry that lets me double-click to see what's in win.ini. I looked at it, and I do see something in there about WINFAX. But it is what I approved and changed, not what was there before I screwed things up. If seeing that will be useful to you I could paste it back here.

My computer has been locking up after it sits dormant for any length of time. A restart brings it back to reality. I had reloaded Windows XP months ago, & had failed to re-download Skybot S&D. I did that this morning & after a successful download, I ran it. It came up with some entries that were mostly tracking bots. But it also came up with a registry change in the Windows Security Center. My question is should I let Skybot S&D try to fix it (if it can), or as was suggested to me, was to download & run ComboFix. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Never mind....not sure how I did it but I was able to clear ACROVBUS (last Acronis 2011 entry) from the CurrentControlSet and after restarting...it's gone from 1,2,3 sets also

Seems I had to find the very 'lowest' entry that I could change permissions on first toward the end of the entries...then just go up the ladder to ACROVBUS itself...

And the .reg in C:\ is gone and in regedit, the entry seems normal:

But the problem now is that the computer runs very slow, and after a while, it has no responds.

Hello all.

I have just reinstalled Windows XP Pro on my PC and need to find a way to get my programs from a user that is no longer recognized by windows to work with my new user. The first thing I thought to do was copy the registry from the old user and replace the new one's with it, but I'm not sure if that would work, or how to do it.

Any ideas?

A:Swap user registry?

The tried and true and only way is to reinstall the programs involved.

I'm getting ready to give a family member our old laptop. I created a new admin account, then deleted the old one from the Users area in Control Panel. It didn't do a clean delete, as the old userid comes up with a signon window before Windows comes completely up. There is an error message that displays in front of the window that says "Make sure your userid and domain are correct". There is no domain field.

The documents, etc. are gone for the old user, but the userid appears 5 or 6 times in the Registry.

A:Delete old user from registry

I'd do a clean format and reinstall Windows XP rather than risk leaving some old files (you might not have gotten all of them) on the computer.

We tried to correct a problem - Access 2003 would not start on two workstations. We found a "fix" on Mircosoft support that suggested exporting a registry key from a computer where Access was working. The fix corrected the problem with Access but we may have accidentally over corrected the problem. The users are unable to log with their old user name and passwords. Is it possible to undo what we did??

I got my new PC with Win XP preinstalled.
Under C: Documents & Settings it shows All users, Default user & user.
I am the only user. I have changed my Login name via Control panel. I am not able to change 'user' as it says it is used by system32 & cannot be changed.
Is there any method?
Thanks.. this is my 1st question.

Create a new account with the name that you want. Copy over the profile from the other one if you want and then delete the first account.

Hello

i discovered, using Regseeker clean up function
lot of keys can not be deleted cause rights are of older user that has been deleted from my PC

i've found the way to solve it manually changing rights to key and subkeys
but it's a long way to do manually on all them
there's a way to spread full controll for current user to all keys on registry ?

My PC Win XP SP3 Media center 2002

Thanks

A:Registry rights - old user

1) To answer your question, yes. Using a very powerful utility (subinacl) you can do a system-wide permission change (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/739820.aspx). Be careful to follow all instructions and to let the script finish completely before doing anything else.

2) Registry cleaners NEVER do any good and some, like Regseeker can be very dangerous and harmful to your system. There is NEVER a need or reason to use any registry cleaner.

Hi folks,

I was woundering if somebody here knows how to specify which users can shutdown the computer from registry.

Using the local group policy this setting would be: Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Settings -> User Rights -> Shutdown the Computer

By default Administrators, Backup Operators and Users. The problem is that I need to change this settings form a script and I don't know where to look for it in the registry. I was thinking of using the reg add command in the script but I don't know what to change.

I tryed to use a program called regshot to analyse change to registry, so I made the change on Group policy and then looked at the changes but came to no conclusion.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Ricardo,

You might see if you may be able to use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below for this. That way you could do it by running a command.

I'm hoping coming back with a new, specific post on this item will get a response. No further responses to this particular question were forthcoming on my original post. I'm about to let someone remotely connect to my computer to go through it over this problem, so I'd like to have an answer to this before I take that plunge. If anyone knows if this will help, please respond.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TimeBroker
Look for the Start entry and change its value from dword:00000003 to dword:00000004 (simply replace the 3 at the end of the value with 4).
Changing this value could have an impact on Cortana?s performance, but it appears to be closely connected to the high CPU usage in Windows 10. In case you?re not using Cortana at all, you?re on the good side. Otherwise, setting reminders won?t work.

A:Will this registry change help with high CPU usage?

I don't think Windows 10 has high CPU usage for all; however, it may be affect some (for reasons unknown). It seems to be slightly higher on my laptop than my desktop for some reason but they are both at reasonable levels. Here's my desktop when idle:

I have Xp SP2 and lately I hear the fan going a lot and system idle process is always using 98% of CPU and my system shuts down abruptly now and then. In the event viewer I get a service control manager error 7000
"The General Purpose USB Driver (adildr.sys) service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. "

I looked on the web and no one seems to have the right solution. I remember that once I "solved" a similar error by changing the error level for this service in the registry to the value, I think 4, while now it's 0. Can someone confirm or advice differently on this topic?

By default that option is set for only creating 8.3 file names for system files on the system drive (C: )

As for why you want to disable...turn it off. I have no idea why. It is not going to do anything for you.

Anyways a better solution to your current file system, should probably look into version control that way you don't need to put version information in the file name itself.

A:Persistent Message Re Registry Change

Hi P220STI read the same question on CastleCops Forum and i have copied and pasted there answer, hope it helps. You can ignore that one. It's simply alerting you that the scheduled task for an automated scan that defender will do for you has been updated. If you uncheck the option to notify you regarding changes made to your computer by software that is allowed to run it will disappear... although you may inadvertently find that many more system restore checkpoints are created as a consequence. I've learned to live with that alert in the current invocation of the product. Also here is a link if you want to visit the siteMy WebpageCheers

So I try editing the permissions for the key, but I get a "Access is Denied" error... same thing happens I try to change stuff in the advanced portion of the permissions settings. I'm even logged in as administrator, which should have "Full Control" privileges... but it's not making a difference. I also tried using Malwarebyte's RegAssassin but it said it couldn't delete the registry key.

Welcome to TSF,

I am curious to know why you are messing with your registry. Unless you are very proficient in what you are attempting to do, I would strongly advise you to leave your registry alone.

I do not recommend you run any registry cleaner either as does this forum. They can do more harm than good and rarely change anything except maybe render your computer inoperable.

kind regards,

Hi Everyone,
I am having an issue trying to change the permissions in my registry using Windows Vista Ultimate x64. When I try to give it Full access it gives me an error. "Unable to save permission changes on USB". "Access is Denied"

The key I am trying to change permissions on:
HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

Does anyone know how to get around this issue?

Thanks.

On a Win XP machine you could delete the registry keys under HKLM\Enum as the last step before removing the MB and when the new MB was installed the Plug & Play would install the your hardware drivers and properly configure the new MB.

Is there a similar process that will work with Win 7? There is no HKLM\Enum key in Win 7 registry. There is a HKLM\System\Control Set 001\Enum.

Using a batch file to logon users. Want to bea able to use DOS in my .bat file to change the registry setting for the proxy server name. I have found the path of the key I want to change, but I need help with syntax to accomplish this. If anyone could help me on this, would be very appreciative. Also, if anyone could point me to a good reference for writing batch files, that would be appreciated too. Thanks.

Hi All,

I'm running windows vista on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Within the last 6 months, I can't update certain programs. I get registry errors such as: Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.m4v\OpenWithProgIds.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

While this wasn't such a huge deal when I was trying to update Adobe Acrobat, I really need to update iTunes now and can't due to this error. I can't activate my new iPhone without the new version of iTunes.

I have tried going to the specific key and right clicking to change permissions, however, it just throws up another error saying access denied.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated. I really don't want to got through wiping the hard drive and re-installing everything.

Thanks a bunch,
Tami

Question: if I was to add a user account, like "Gamer Profile" and I do some tweaks in the registry. Does this effect the whole computer? Or just this profile?
In other words, I want to tweak my comp so that when I game, I use the best performance possible. And when I just do other comp work, surf the web, I use the standard settings. If it don't work the way I want it, I just delete that profile, I also delete those tweaks?

A:user accounts/registry tweaks

I'm no registry expert, but my understanding is that some registry entries are account specific, whereas others will affect all accounts. So it really depends on which entries you're talking about.

Well, everything was working find and normal until I logged off...

When I logged off there were no longer any User Accounts to logon to.

Windows boots normally and gets to the User screen, but there are no users, buttons, or anything.

All controls become obsolete, and system must be reset.

I can boot to CD and get into the C:\Windows

Is there a way to fix this without loosing the stuff on the Harddrive?

Or is it allready too late?

Does anyone know why by default running regedit under a standard user account does not prompt the UAC for administrative credentials?

Under an admin account the UAC does prompt when running regedit, but obviously does not prompt for admin credentials.

I was successful at adding and modifying registry keys under a standard user account. It would seem like restricting access to the registry would be essential for security, any reason why its setup like this?

A:Standard user Registry does not prompt UAC

If UAC blocked access to editing registry keys, then almost all changes and all programms you run would have need UAC prompt. As almost anything now changes registry keys.

But as you said leaving it without any blocks, will be great security flaw.
So UAC only controls registry keys which it considers as Administrative.
So, user can edit and create registry keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, but it's denied to edit or create most registry enteries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and some registry enteries blocked even for reading.

Just simple examples:
1. In this picture my LUA (standart user) can't even access (read) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY as it dosen't have permissions.

2. In this example: LUA is denied access, when it tried to create new registr entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current_Version\Run (Autorun for all users)
But LUA won't be denied if he tries to create registy entry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current_Version\Run
Because it's autorun only for this user and so user should be able to create autoruns for himself...

So, as you can see it's not security flaw, but just something to make standard user's life easier without braking security setup.

Hop it will help you

Hi
I have a windows 7 pc and various users who use it. Each user that logs on creates a local profile ok. However when you logon with the admin account and open the registry editor and look under the HKEY_USERS key only the S-1-5-2xxxx entry is there for the admin account and the standard system entries but each key for every user that has logged onto the pc is not displayed.

Under windows XP you where able to see entries for all users who had logged onto that pc. Has something changed with Windows 7 by design or is there something wrong with the installation/setup of this machine.

Thanks

Hey first let me thank the members of tsf com the site has helped me with many problems over a few years normally I just search Account & User Issues Registry the forums for my problem and am able to come to some sort of resolution from there but this time I cannot seem to find anything similar here My problem started with a BSOD boot problem on my laptop because of a broken registry hive I managed User Account & Registry Issues to fix the problem by replacing the security and software hive with the copies found in windows repair That allowed me to boot but now I'm experiencing some different problems which I'm sure are a direct result Firstly when windows loads on the laptop I am as expected shown the welcome screen with the user selection Everything appears normal and the users are displayed correctly The first time I logged on to each account after I quot fixed quot my BSOD problem the small dialogue box appears that is normally shown on an accounts first run the one that says things like quot Configuring settings for Internet Explorer quot and then once the profile is loaded it appears like a new account on the machne with default settings the My Documents folder is empty default desktop background etc Shortcuts in the start menu which is populated exactly as pre-problem state do not work and the programs must be run directly from their executables When I looked at the HDD everything seems to be intact and the only problem I can see is that instead of loading the 'username' profile from Documents amp Settings it appears to have instead loaded 'username computer name' which did not exist previously the 'username' folder is what i expected with documents desktop etc correct for the username and 'username computer name' appears to be a new account Any ideas On another note when I boot I'm always given the OS choice selection menu which consists of three Windows XP options each exactly the same so I'm assuming I need to somehow fix the boot ini file but dont know exactly what to do Any help or input would be massively helpful to me as I use my laptop for college work and studying so is quite essential and although I can easily access it I would rather have my machine in its pre-problem state

Referred to MS knowledge base by Event Viewer team which recommended a probable fix by downloading "User Profile Hive Cleanup Service." Although this page is given for VISTA errors on svch user logoff situations and the download is vs. 1.6d, the directions say to uninstall vs. 1.6d on a VISTA machine. I'm a little (lot) confused. I receive several errors daily re this "hang onto" situation in the registry. My computer has never had XP installed on it so do I download the UPHC fixerupper or forget it, assuming MS will provide a patch for this problem. Thanks.

I need a change script to change some registry entries for M$ Excel program (solely 2010, 2013 and 2016), to make it work along with Sandboxie.
I can't do a fixed reg file since it has some variables that changes and become unique on every installation on every different scenario.

Requirements:
1. The script needs to make a backup (reg file) of the following entries as a first function (here don't matter Office version or achitecture):
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8\shell\Open
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.SheetMacroEnabled.12\shell\Open

2. Then, the script must be able to make the following changes depicted in the image:

The image shows only Excel.Sheet.8 entry yet the script must consider Excel.Sheet.12 and Excel.SheetMacroEnabled.12 as well.

To all the scriptmasters in here, thanks in advance for you help.

A:Registry Change Denied But The Message Pops Up Again And Again

With Spybot's TeaTimer whenever there is a registry change to the system it pops up a notification to allow or deny. If you selected deny change but keep getting the alert, then something is attempting to alter the registry and the pop-up notifications will continue. From what your describing it appears your browser is set to google and is attempting to change to mysearch.myway. MySearch is an IE Toolbar and homepage/search hijacker targeted at the sites run by MyWay. However, it is pre-installed on some new Dell computers from November 2004. If your using a Dell computer, they have removal instructions here.If not, then start by doing some thorough scanning. Did you perform a scan with Spybot or any other scanning tool after these alerts started? What OS (Win XP/2000, etc) are you using? What type of anti-virus are you using and when was the last time you ran a scan? If your running Win XP/2000, download and scan with Ewido Anti-Spyware v4.0 in "SAFE MODE".Be sure to print out the Ewido Install and Scan Instructions. You can also download and scan with Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06. Setup & Configure as shown here.Other scanning/cleaning tools can be found in BC's List of Virus & Malware Resources.

Good Morning;

I ran a recent scan of TDS-3 and a warning was returned indicating that my autostart registry had changed. There doesnt seem to be a way to copy the scan or I would have posted it. Is there another program, perhaps Hijack, that would allow be to scan and copy the registry so I could post it here for someone to take a look at what it is that I'm dealing with here?

Many thanks in advance
Q

A:TDS-3 Scan indicates a change detected in autostart registry...

most times the TDS warning of a changed autostart is becaus you have changed something like a windows update or an antivirus change or similar

sometimes it is a warning of a baddie so

go to http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HijackThis.exe and download 'Hijack This!'.
make sure it is placed into it's own folder, not a temporary folder. Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

By default Windows 7 has desktop icon view set to Medium. I want to change the default user NTuser.dat hive as part of SCCM build so that each new user has small size by default, but can change if they wish (hence can't do it as a GPO)
Does anyone know the registry key(s) to change?

A:Registry key to change desktop icon size

Hi,
This view size is controlled by HKU specific user registry. Thus it can't be mapping to another user account.
If you insist, there is a complex workaround(However I wouldn't like to recommend you use this method):
Copy the following registry value to place another user's registry.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU
Note: It can't be imported, just copy its value.
