Windows 8 Release Preview - language pack

Q: Windows 8 Release Preview - language pack

Just installed Win 8 Release Preview to my VMware.
All appear to be fine except..... Language pack.

When I had the Win 8 Consumer Preview , language pack included Chinese Simplified but not Chinese Traditional.
Now with the Release, Chinese Simplified is not available either.
What gives ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Oh, I get it.
Do I have to create a new VM machine and install the Chinese Simplified or Traditional Windows 8 iso ?

I currently have Windows 8 Release Preview, it is my main OS. I have many programs, files, settings, etc.

My question is when the final version of Windows 8 comes out will I be able to upgrade to that version from my current version (Windows 8 Release Preview). What I mean by upgrade is not doing a clean install and having everything put into the windows.old folder.

Thank You.

Unfortunately that is the case. When you upgrade Windows it upgrades and replaces the existing components and there is no way to revert it back to the previous release. You will need your Windows installation disc to do a complete reinstall.

I am playing with Win 8 in Virtualbox inside Ubuntu. Win 7 works fine in VB and boots in about 30 seconds. Win 8 is taking around 10 minutes.

So far the little bit I have been able to use 8 hasn't excited me much. The first screen has me looking for the desktop and start button, but I'll give it more time if I can get it to boot somewhat properly.

Edit : I just did a restart and it took 15 minutes, over 14 was booting.

A:Windows 8 Release preview.

To get to the desktop click the Desktop Tile, or press the Windows key and D, or even just pressing the Windows may do it. Pressing the Windows key will bring up the metro start screen. There is no Start orb or traditional start menu. Can't help you with the long boot times, I'm running mine directly from my hard drive in a dual boot with Windows 7.

What's the difference between RTM and release preview? is RTM consider as the full version? Am i missing anything by choosing Release Preview?

A:RTM Vs. Release Preview. Windows 8?

Hello Imeem, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes, that's correct. RTM (Release To Market) is the final (full/upgrade) retail version. The release preview was the previous build for testing purposes before the RTM.

The release preview is much faster and more responsive. Metro works so well in this release. That back/forth buttons in Windows Explorer are more like the buttons in Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10.

May I know which processor you're using?

If you're with Intel, try:

Enter the BIOS setting and enable the XD bit (execution disable bit) of your Intel CPU. See if that works

I installed Windows release preview a few days 8 release My Windows preview impressions of ago and here are my impressions First the good I like some of the Metro apps like Internet Explorer and msnbc news Windows is slightly faster than Windows Now the bad Metro IE and Desktop IE are independent they don't share your last viewed pages It takes steps to shut down a Move the mouse to the top-left or top-right corner b Click on Settings c Click on Power d Click on Shut down Compare this to Windows where you can just click Start Shut down It My impressions of Windows 8 release preview is difficult to stay in metro when you click on a pdf document for example it goes to the desktop Likewise it is difficult to stay on the desktop to search for something you have to go back to metro They should never have removed the start button The metro screen is ugly Due to these negatives I won't be upgrading to Windows when it's released What about you

A:My impressions of Windows 8 release preview

Yes, Metro IE is basically just a Metro app. It's not the desktop IE, and therefore won't share data.

Shutting down is very simple. Press the power button on your computer. 1 step. Windows has, for 10+ years, allowed you to shutdown by simply pressing the power button. It does a graceful shutdown. It's easy.

Metro has a PDF viewer, so i'm not sure why clicking on a PDF brings you to the desktop. I'm also not sure why this is bad.. who cares if you stay in metro or not? Seems like a made-up grumble to me.

After release, the start screen will be pretty customizable. expect stardock and what not to come out with start menu designers and the like.

Remember, Windows 8 is targeted at Tablets and such. Tablets have physical buttons for things like start, shutting down, volume control, etc...

I started downloading Windows 8 Release Preview but killed it when I read some of the documentation which is quite ambiguous. This leaves me with a few questions.

1. Does the Windows 8 Release Preview installation completely replace Windows 7?

2. Can the Windows 8 Release Preview be installed and run from a flash drive without affecting the existing Windows 7?

3. Can Windows 8 Release Preview be installed on an existing Windows XP system or a blank drive?

4. How can I download the Windows 8 Release Preview .iso to a flash drive without touching my existing Windows 7 system?

A:Questions about Windows 8 Release Preview

Hi richierein To answer your questions:1. Yes. It keeps your documents and settings, but upgrades Windows 7 to Windows 8.2. I'm not sure on the Preview Release, but I think the final release has been reported that it will allow booting from flash drives.3. Yes to all, but being installed on existing xp. You will have to erase xp completely to install Windows 8 as there is no upgrade possibility due to xp being several releases outdated.I recommend installing VirtualBox to test it in a virtual machine. You can also download the iso directly here. Hi there I am a sound engineer I own a device called Focusrite Liquidmix which worked fine 8 Legacy Windows (release preview) drivers in Windows bit BUT only if it was installed in a firewire device which had LEGACY drivers Something that you could easilly do in win with manual choice of the legacy Windows 8 (release preview) Legacy drivers drivers for the specific firewire card in device manager In windows the option is gone No legacy drivers alternative What I did is use the win legacy drivers and I manually choose them but it didn't let Windows 8 (release preview) Legacy drivers me install them unsigned drivers What I did next was some cmd commands with test signing and stuff known commands to disable this thing which also hasn't worked Final stop was to do the windows restart in advance settings option where you can choose with F to disable signed drivers check This finally worked The problem is that EVERY time I restart the driver again doesn't work and has a yellow signal in device manager So I have to restart again in advanced settings start with F and it works once again So everytime I need to work on songs with this device which needs legacy drivers I have to do time consuming restarts Any thoughts on how can I permanently have drivers signed check disabled in Windows Thanks in advance This thing with legacy drivers mode is a problem for many many devices and people

A:Windows 8 (release preview) Legacy drivers

I understand that issue clearly because I encountered it before.

It depends how old the device is and if it still has support then the manufacturers need to make new signed versions for win8.
Some drivers were hard to find or not available at all.
Some time ago someone told me to look for drivers on and search the device name or the hardware ID's found in the detail section of the driver (device manager). Works with most of devices.

If you're lucky enough, you can find some signed drivers there.
Besides this link, there's the manufacturer's website but you're not finding much for Win8 or new OSes in general if the hardware is older.

Good luck

Im not 100% sure but could it be the PC it-self? Windows 7 also refuses to install, XP is the only one that works for me.

I am still disappointed that there is still no Start Menu in the "Desktop App"
Anyone know if MS is going to put it in in final?

A:Ok Still no Start Menu in Windows Release Preview

Hi Robin.
There are sticklers out there that insist Microsoft must provide the familiar start button and menu.
Microsoft has stated that the metro start page is the new start menu.
It can be annoying at times, however,

the familiar start button and menu for the desktop is available to install.
Users can do their own research online for something they might like to install or set up.
There are free programs and programs to buy that do the same thing as the familiar start menu.

Also try right clicking the bottom left of the desktop.

I have a problem with my notebook. It's an Acer Aspire 7530.

Windows 8 Consumer Preview ran without any problems; the drivers needed (especially for the graphics card) were downloaded automatically.

Now I installed Windows 8 Release Preview, but Windows Update does not install the graphics card driver, thus it runs really slowly and is unusable :/ Installing the drivers manually won't do a thing (even if the installer exits without problems). Even re-installing the whole OS (means formatting the partition and perform a clean install) didn't work.

Maybe some of you can help me!

The graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 9600 M GS.

One more information: It says, the driver used for the screen is the standard "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter", although the driver for the graphics card is installed.

Thank you very much in advance!

A:Windows 8 Release Preview crashing upon waking from sleep

Please provide this info:

A couple of problems were noted when I ran the memory dump:

You have the 2005 version of ASACPI.sys installed - it is a known cause of BSOD's in Win7 systems. I suspect that it'll do the same thing for Win8 systems. Please go to the Asus website and download/install the ATK0110 ACPI Utility driver for your system/motherboard. If you can't locate the driver, please provide the exact make and model of your motherboard.

Your optical mouse drivers date from 2009. Please uninstall them and use the default Windows mouse drivers to see if that helps.
If you need the functionality that these drivers offer - please ensure that you get an updated version of the driver that's dated from after the release of Win7 (at a minimum).

The BSOD blames your ATI drivers. Please:
- uninstall your current ATI drivers
- use this procedure to install the DRIVERS ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure

Welcome to the forum!

Try to use what works for you. For me the vbox graphics in the additions seem to work but for some users not (and in that case you can uninstall the VBox display driver from Win 8 Device Manager)

Try first with the VBox (WDDM) Driver
1. If additions are installed try to enter fullscreen: if your host has 1366x768 then your guest should have the same resolution.
In this thread: VM Machine Trouble were talking over a similar issue (use VDDM and if i'ts not working well, uninstall it then)

If you decide to uninstall VBox Display Adapter, then you will have to manually add custom monitor resolution (see link above: in you case: <ExtraDataItem name="CustomVideoMode1" value="1366x768x32"/>) since only a few resolutions are available, but you still get shared folders and the rest of addition stuff without display drivers.

If you run metro apps in VirtualBox then it's recommended to uninstall WDDM driver since many apps crash with it.

This is a classic issue with VirtualBox since Windows 8 is not fully supported yet, and you are one of the many that has encountered this problem.

Good luck

I'm currently using the aero.msstyles file from Windows 8 Release Preview, because transparency is retained in window borders. I'm using Resource Hacker to try and edit the taskbar and scrollbar. Right now, I've found the images for the min/max/close buttons, but I haven't found the images related to the scrollbar and taskbar. I'm not sure, but are the image #s the same as Windows 8 RTM? My aero.msstyles has images numbered from 508 to 1263. Any image numbers related to the scrollbar and taskbar (especially the clock and system tray) in both Windows 8 RP and Windows 8 RTM would be greatly appreciated.

We recommend that you use an antimalware app to help protect your PC from malware and other potentially harmful software, and that you keep the app up to date. Windows Defender is a feature of Windows 8 and is enabled by default in Windows 8 Release Preview. If you prefer to use any of the antimalware apps listed on this page, Windows Defender will silently turn itself off so that the antimalware app you choose can help protect your PC.

Microsoft is actively working with antimalware app developers, including those listed on this page, to ensure the availability of high-quality antimalware apps on Windows 8.

I had no problems under Consumer Preview, but I can't get any of my GFWL titles to load at all with Release Preview! Latest version is installed (Apr '12) and Dirt 3, SSIV AE 2012, Bulletstorm all refuse to load.

Dirt 3 and Bulletstorm start loading then give up. SSIV AE 2012 gives an error message.

Removing and reinstalling GFWL hasn't helped. This is a on a clean install of W8 RP (with CP I did an upgrade from my Win 7 install).

Anyone else had any luck?

As it stands this is faintly catastrophic!

A:Dual Booting Windows 8 Release Preview and XP on two Hard Drives

Try in the reverse order , format both drives to ensure they are cleaned up.
Install XP first on the first hard drive available , which is the boot drive.
Check it boots correctly.
Then install W8 and then choose the second drive it should then overwrite the master boot record on drive 1 to allow dual booting but installs windows8 on drive 2. ( Installing xp second overwrites the MBR on the W8 type of dual boot record.)
Hope this helps.
But personally if you are using 2 completely different drives and can choose which one boots first in the bios by some means (pressing F12 key on mine), I would do so individually as per the suggestion you found on Google. Iit gives you more flexibility to install and change drives around without the sort of problems you have run into.

Microsoft has begun to rollout Build 14393.82 for Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring. On PC, the latest update is KB3176932. This is a cumulative update so, while the release notes haven?t been published yet, it?s safe to say that it contains mostly bug fixes and small improvements instead of launching any major new features.

It?s important to emphasise that this update is for those special Windows 10 andWindows 10 Mobile users who have been enrolled in the Windows Insiders program. This program consists of volunteers who offer to run preview builds of the Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile operating systems on their own devices. Microsoft uses these users as a way to test the stability and security of special features and functions before rolling them out to the general population.

I would like to clean install Windows 10 Release version (before the free upgrade perion ends) and am wondering if it will work with the Windows 8 Key stored in the HP Bios, or is that key invalidated by the Windows 8.1 upgrade? Can I retrieve my Windows 8 or 8.1 key somehow?

Just trying to clarify how to proceed and be able to activate the Windows 10 Release. (I recently installed Windows 10 on my desktop PC, and just used my Windows 8.1 key that had been installed on that desktop system during the clean install of 10, and that worked perfectly.)

Hello !
I installed windows 8.1 pro preview successfully in English, and since I use French very often, I installed and changed the display language into French. I also checked two options concerning the welcome screen and account users to display them all in French and worked perfectly.

I noticed the watermark before changing the display language into French, then followed this method to remove it : How to Remove Windows 8.1 Preview Watermark | MyTechBlog
the method worked fine, but when I changed into French the watermark turned out again, then repeated the same method until I removed it.

when I finished I noticed that "My Computer" which appears as "This PC" + "Control Panel" + when I open Control Panel everything appear in English. but my display language now is French except the aforesaid.

Would you help solve this problem?

I installed Windows 8 Pro and installed an additional language(let's say it's B) pack, changed system display language to B, and system locale to B.

And I got infinite BSOD after installing some drivers(not related to language pack, just I made mistake installing old programs), so I 'refresh'ed the system.

Guess what, after the refresh, system display was set to English(united kingdom, which is default), AND system locale remained as language B.

This is the problematic part;
1.I CANNOT change system display language to B, it says it's unavailable.
2.The system regards the language pack is already installed because I can still use B as system locale.
3.I cannot reinstall or remove the language pack. LPKSETUP doesn't detect B.

SO i'm pretty much stuck, and I don't want to reinstall just to change the system display language.

Is there any solution to this(removing/reinstalling language pack)?

Hi there
Download the SWEDISH LIP from here

Download languages for Windows - Microsoft Windows

Even includes obscure languages like WELSH etc.

I used the Icelandic one -- works a treat on my systems. In some cases you need to install over a base ENGLISH version of W7 but I think for Swedish installing over ANY installed language version of W7 base should be OK -- the list contains the requirements.

Once you've installed go to control panel regional settings and you can get around 99% of the Interface switched to the alternate language(s). You can install as many as you like and note the Logon screen if you set the administrator options in control panel will also be presented in your chosen language.

You need to have W7 PRO or higher unfortunately -- it won't work with HOME PREMIUM -- which IMO is daft since corporates often use ENGLISH but home users are much more likely to want W7 in their native language.

You should find no trouble installing on W7 Enterprise whether X-86 or the 64 bit version.

You can switch back to the original English any time after install too.

Hi, I am looking to buy a laptop here in Germany where I live, but as an 'auslander' (i.e foreigner), my native language is English, so I'm wondering if its possible to change the user language to English on the low-end laptops equipped with 'Windows 8.1 with Bing.'

From what I have read online, there are supposedly no handicaps or limitations for the end user for the Bing-version Windows, however, I have noted from this article that the "About Windows" screen cap states something to the effect of it being a 'single language.'

Does this mean that I cannot switch to everything being in English with this version of Win 8.1, or is it still possible to add a language pack?

Thank you!

A:Adding Language Pack to 'Windows 8.1 with Bing'

Hi Gb33, welcome to the Eight Forums.

Myself an ex-pat living in Germany I know how important but sometimes difficult it is to find a computer here with pre-installed OS in any other language than German. Luckily Windows 8 made this a bit easier due language packs being available in all editions except single language edition.

Windows 8.1 with Bing is available in four different versions. One of them, Windows 8.1 with Bing China we can forget . Remains Windows 8.1 with Bing Single Language, Win 8.1 with Bing N and normal Windows 8.1 with Bing. You can use language packs (change display language from German to any language) in both N and normal versions, the Single Language can only be used in its original language.

Short: ask the store, check what version of Windows 8.1 with Bing the laptop has. Version N comes without Windows Media Player and other media features but these can be easily added by yourself with no cost (Download Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8.1 from Official Microsoft Download Center). You can use language packs in version N to change your display language. Windows 8.1 with Bing normal version has all media features and can also use language packs.

Be careful, check that you will not get a German Single Language version.

Hello All,

I'm new.

For those that have the Release Candidate, does it include the new Metroized menus and font's? I'm psyched and am looking forward to the release.

A:Hello from a new the new GUI in the Release Preview?

You can get it yourself and try it out if you want Anyone can download and install it, just use a spare hard drive, don't mess up anything that is currently working for you...

I don't know if this has been covered elsewhere but I'm wondering if I can upgrade my RP to 8 Pro keeping all the settings that I have now. I'm assuming that it will be just like upgrading from 7 or XP?

Yes, you should be OK, I had NO problem.

I had hoped that the latest offering from MS might be of some interest to desktop users.
No, it is just junk the same as before.
I would think MS are about to have another failure on their hands.

A:Preview Release

I think that Windows 8 on touch, might just prove out to be revolutionary, bringing about the so-called "post-pc" era, if Microsoft ever goes that far. Without touch, however, it'll suck hard and bad. Windows 8 just isn't supposed to be used with a mouse, MS should know that(or maybe they already know?). Use it on a touchscreen(metro), it'll all start making sense.

I have desktops that were running Win preview The 8.1 VS VS Release. 8.1 preview Win one was automatically updated to Win release The Realease has destroyed my confidence in Microsoft Everything worked in Preview Now my Canon PIXMA MG printer is not compatible it gives a message Win 8.1 VS preview VS 8.1 Release. that it isn't with IE It will not work as a network printer Have to use USB Lost about of my apps or tiles Whatever Search now gives me about web choices no option that works for searching MY computer Everything is referred to a the Social networks which I don't want amp the CLOUD That I have no use for Every time I want to print I have tell it where to send the document to no defaut Many other things that I object to that I don't want I am forced to deal with with out any explanation Most of the MS Apps I can not delete The CLOUD FOR ONE I have lost control of MY COMPUTER I would go back to Win but even that is a NIGHT MARE as MS has taken control of my HD amp I can't do a factory format Win Release has ruined my computer life after a log relationship with MS since MS Dos I will be in Feb Tully

A:Win 8.1 VS preview VS 8.1 Release.

You would have lost all of your purchased tiles in the upgrade - But if you are using the same Microsoft Account that you used to buy the tiles, you can go into the Store and right click, across the top you'll see "My Apps" and you will see "Not on this machine" - You can then slot em all up for download. I';ll try to find a tutorial for you, I';ll paste it in when I get back.

Dos 1.0 eh? I remember PC Dos, Dr. Dos, I used to run AutoCAD r10 on Dos 5.0, Dos 6.2.2 was the last and best DOS, I still use it for some things.

Actually, "The Cloud" is a free area that can store your personal docs, it connects to "My Documents" - If you use a Local Account you won't have access to "Skydrive", which is MS's Cloud. Look, I hear ya, I never had a use for iCloud, but I got it, and then I got an iPhone and I found out I needed it!

You can set up 8.1 to not use Cloud services even if you are using an MS account to log in - Without the MS account, you will never get access to the Tile Apps you paid for.

It is now in Polish since I am polish and the edition I have is called Windows 7 Ingresso which is basicaly a cut down version of Win7 with some great programs preinstaled and is also really fast. I tried installing the English Language Pack through Windows Updates but it gives me an error code 800736B3

Anyone got any ideas?

Any help much appriciated thanks

A:Windows 7 SP1 - English Language Pack Installation Error : 800736B3

Hello baertekxx12,

Peruse the link below to see if it provides any useful information.

Microsoft has no publicly available information for error code 800736B3.
Other threads in Answers forums very strongly suggest that error code 800736B3 is a symptom of system corruption/damage, most often caused by, e.g., one or more Norton realtime-protection processes, an infection, and/or injudicious use of "Registry cleaners" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; Advanced SystemCare; AVG PC TuneUp; PCTools Optimiser; CCleaner).

I'm going to be building a PC very soon. Obviously I'm going to need an OS for it. Rather than shell out ?80 for Windows 7 only to upgrade to 8 when it comes out a couple of months later, could I instead install the release preview onto it and upgrade to 8 when it comes out? Link to the release preview:

Windows 8 Release Preview

My concern is that the 64-bit version is a 3.3GB download. I'm guessing that means this version is intended as an upgrade from 7? Meaning I won't be able to use it as a clean install?

So should I just settle for 7? Or could I get away with using this release preview as an OS until the full version of 8 comes out?

A:Installing "Windows 8 Release Preview" onto new build...

Hello Jack, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes, you can do a clean install with the Windows 8 Release Preview.
Clean Install - Windows 8

You could also use Windows 8 Release Preview until the final retail version of Windows 8 is released. You should be able to upgrade from the Release Preview to the full RTM, but it would recommended to do a clean install with the full RTM instead.

Hope this helps,
