No more admin rights in win8

Q: No more admin rights in win8

Since yesterday it seems that I don't have any control over my windows(8).
When I want to open a certain program Windows gives me the following error message:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

When I press Windows button + 'X' - Command Prompt (admin) I get an 'Unspecified Error'.

I'm also unable to install new programs and to access the task manager.
My UAC is(was) already set to 'Admin'.

Any suggestions?
Thx!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: No more admin rights in win8

Do you have Windows 8 Installation disk ? Or did you create a recovery disk ?
If the answer is NO to the above then download: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...3/Recovery.rar
then:
unzip/unrar it to a USB stickChange the BIOS or BOOT menu to boot up your PC from the USBSelect US Keyboard->Trouble Shooting->Advanced->Command PromptFrom command prompt Run: diskpart->List Volume and take a note of what Drive letter is your Windows OS then type ExitNow run: sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows
replace d: with the drive letter in step 4.

Hi I m having a problem that I gather is fairly common with Windows machines but I haven t been able to find the same case in other threads nor a workable solution among similar cases I have two Windows computers the main laptop on Win and a hybrid tablet on Win I would like drive Win8.1 Trying connect to network to a for both devices to be able to access each other via my home network So for both devices I ve set the network settings to home private I turned on file sharing and discovery and even joined both devices to the same homegroup The end result is that my Win tablet can access my Win laptop both through the homegroup and through direct network access The problem is that my Win laptop cannot do either of those with regard to the tablet in all Trying to connect to a Win8.1 network drive cases I get the network error message that I cannot access the location and should check it for spelling To try to solve this issue I have attempted -Turning off the Windows firewall on my Win tablet -Looking around to see if I could find my Win tablet to unwittingly belong to some sort of domain have not been able to figure that out The odd thing is that I also tried to test out the network by setting up iTunes on both devices and setting them to share their music libraries via home share and sure enough both devices could access each other s libraries Similarly I was able to access my tablet from my Win laptop through a Remote Assistance invitation Would very much appreciate any advice I can get here Thanks in advance nbsp

A:Trying to connect to a Win8.1 network drive

Which Windows 8.1 tablet is this Pro or RT? RT your can't not x86 or x64. Pro you can. Disable Homegroup. Use Workgroup and call it something other than Workgroup like: DANET for example
So do this on laptop and tablet. On laptop make sure the folder is shared out to you the admin or your name example Dan.

So you should have local account on your system called Dan with admin rights. Back on the tablet side you need to create a local account. Did you setup Microsoft account so your login with that account only. You need to create a local account and start using that. It can be done to access the Microsoft account while being on local account while your at home.

If away from home then sign on to Microsoft account to access the cloud features. Or still use the local account and have Microsoft account to access store and skydrive (aka onedrive).

Hi Friends ... I have this laptop that has been given to me by my company and the USB ports have been blocked in manner such that I can copy stuff from my USB drive on to the machine but cannot copy in the reverse direction, ie. from the hard drive to the USB. Obviously it is to safeguard against theft of data. However, I do not deal with any confidential data and like to back up things every few days. Please tell me a shortcut to unlock my USB entirely even though I do not have administrator rights on the machine.

A:How to unlock USB ports without admin password?

Sorry, we will not assist in circumventing such security features, especially when the machine belongs to someone else.

I have an hp mini 1000 netbook with the admin passwords in the bios and win xp. It was my cousins who is no longer with us, so my aunt gave it to me. Noone knows the passwords. How can I bypass them or override them? I can get in as a guest but it is too limited. What are my best options?

A:HP Mini admin password unknown

You need to talk to HP, after changing the registered ownership, and may need a document about the fate of the previous owner. You may have to send it to a certified HP service center with a formal notice of change of ownership included.
As for TechSpot, there is a policy to not provide assistance with passwords.
What you want to do is usually very difficult in the best of circumstances.

I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

OK, my subject line might sound cryptic! Here is my set up: first router (main) is connected to the cable modem and provides std addresses as 192.168.1.2 (base is 192.168.1.1) etc. I have a second router (same brand) as a gateway connected to my main. This second router base address is 10.10.10.1 and all that are connected to this one have manually provided IP addresses (such as 10.10.0.2, etc). The main one provides WIFI access as for the second one do not.

Now my question: from my laptop who uses the WIFI network, how can I reach or connect to the other network (the one that is managed with the router with the 10.10.10.1 address? The purpose? I would like to access the computer connected to it as if they were part of the WIFIed network. And be able to access the router management page. Any clue?

A:Cascading routers - how to access admin features from one to the other?

first some basics;

examine the router (the box itself). everything attached to a LAN slot will default to
routing upwards using the WAN slot -- that's a big clue as to what the routing tables looks like.

second; to manage the configuration of a specific router:
a) WIRE a system directly to it
b) login to the router config page using the current router's ip-address

if your network is
modem---router#1----router#2---router#3

then a system attached to routerX will route upward to router(X-1) and NOT downward to router(X+1)

if you wish to have ALL systems (wired and wireless) see and share with each other, then you have too many distinct address.
Leave router#1 as is. disconnect router#2 from #1 and wire router#1 to a LAN port on router#2, leaving its WAN port empty. Log into router#2 and disable DHCP.

Now do the same for the wire from #2-->#3 and disable#3 DHCP.

All systems (wired or WiFi) will get ip-assignments from router#1 and will be able to
ping and share files.

Hi all having successfully cleansed said laptop from various nasties thanks in part to Kimsland and Bobbye i have an issue with the admin login Ok when booting up xp is set to fast user switching and the welcome screen login screen with user accounts Administrator is not included in the list So i hit ctrl alt del twice which then brings up the secure login dialog box So i key in Administrator and the Pavilion DV1000 login? HP admin password that i set and it comes up with quot Unable to log you on HP Pavilion DV1000 admin login? because of an account restriction quot WTF is that The only way i can log in as admin is to reboot into safe mode when it presents itself as another user in the welcome screen list giving in total which quite frankly is ridiculous The main reason the lappy was infected was due to uneducated users installing all kinds of crap as their accounts had admin rights I need to restrict them to limited accounts whilst having full access to the admin account without the need to reboot into safe mode I ve google searched for answers but couldn t find any I m looking for a way to solve this issue so with respect please don t come back with workarounds like quot press shift right-click run as kind of suggestions because i m after full access to admin account without rebooting So any help you can offer would be most appreciated thanks nbsp

Cannot Login to Netgear DG834G router wirelessly from Dell Laptop

Hi heres hoping you can help me.

I have a wireless connection through a Netgear DG834G from a Dell M6300 running Windows XP which is working fine with respect to accessing the internet..

I also have a desktop (wired to the router) which is also running fine.

The problem is that I cannot log into the router wirelessly as Admin on 192.168.0.1
I can login to the router as Admin from the wired PC, but not the laptop !!
I get to the login screen to input password but when pressing enter the login box just re-appears with the password field blank again.
I know the password entered is correct and accurate as it works from the wired desktop

(note: I have changed my laptop recently from HP to Dell, I was able to access the router wirelessly as Admin to perform maintenance with the HP model)

Any ideas ?

A:Cannot connect to wireless router as admin wirelessly

Are all the settings correct for the wireless laptop.
encryption method WEP, WPA, WPA2
passwords

Does the router even see this new laptop?
Do you still have the older laptop?
Check to see if the DELL firewall is disabled under Windows, make sure it off.
Try opening up a session: ping 192.168.0.1
Does the laptop get IP by DHCP,

ipconfig /release wait.... ipconfig /renew wait... try it again does work then
try static IP then do ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns

If all still doesn't work try..
re-joining the wireless router
disconnect using the wireless in range method on the laptop
reconnect but remove the password then re-do it then click on connect see if the wireless laptop can connect.
If it does reboot the laptop and login with your login ID password
Now open the browser and see if you can get into your router
Make sure you do not have any spyware or popup blocker active..

Greetings,

Computer- Dell Inspiron 8100
Problem- Admin Bios Password

I have tried numoerous things, and in the end seems eeprom is only way to reset this.

I looked and looked, it says under motherboard, yet I never found a "24OC" 4 legged chip on the board to reset.

This cpu is 7 yrs old.

So far no luck fixing this one or my Toshiba and have both been reduced to eeprom reset as only viable option.

A:Lost Admin Password in IRAQ help Dell6400 Inspiron

I'm assuming this is a windows password we're talking about here, and that you're running XP. If it is asking you for a BIOS password (black screen, white text), then you're probably screwed, unless there is a BIOS reset jumper within easy reach. If not, have fun opening the entire laptop to find it.

If it gets to windows and wants a password, try this:

grab either active password changer (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Active-Password-Changer.shtml)

or

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor (http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/)

Follow the instructions closely and there's a good chance one of the two will work.

Go to My Network Places, and on the left theres a thing that says "show all UPnP devices" or similar. Click on it, then go to your LAN settings and set your IP address to auto, or 192.168.2.3 vice versa. Plug in/turn your router back on and it should come up as a network place. From that doubleclick it and enter admin etc..

I have an older HP900 laptop which is a nice size to take in our motor home. However, it overheats after running for about 15 minutes. I understand there is a bios update that turns the cooling fan on sooner but I can't get into the bios because of password protection. Any ideas on how to crack the password or any pins to short to reset it?

The laptop will run fine if I rais it off the table and have a fan blowing on it from behind. Cooling fan in laptop runs, but it only comes on shortly before a shutdown if I am not running an additional fan blowing under it.

thanks for any ideas or help

Yes. Ask the admin using e-mail for example

No one will be able to give a sensible answer to such a vague question.

And no, no one is going to tell you how to steal peoples passwords and do other illegal or unethical stuff.

Ok firstly I should mention that one solution to this problem would be to plug the HD into my machine and use fsutil to reset the dirty flag However and pwd set unbootable to No dirty Need xp - flag admin I m a stubborn person and know that there must be a way of doing this easily without taking my machine to bits If I do it in what is for this occasion the hard way I will be able to save a little time in the future should the situation arise again I ve been asked to fix an unbootable computer I had intended to boot into the recovery console to issue chkdsk r fixboot and fixmbr commands Unfortunately I the admin password for the installation isn t available it s been forgotten rolleyes and so I can t log into it I used the offline NT password amp registry editor utility but because the drive is flagged dirty improper shutdown no doubt It won t change or blank the password So I got out my trusty NTFS DOS CD and booted into DOS taking a copy of FSUTIL with me which as expected doesn t work under DOS Hoping that the password was something simple ish I grabbed a copy of the SAM and Systemf files from system config and tried cracking the administrator password It seems that the password is at least characters and so will take an age to crack This leaves me with the option of resetting the dirty bit on the volume so that I can reset the admin password to blank boot into the recovery console and repair windows but I see no fsutil equivelant for DOS probably because NTFS was never meant Need to set dirty flag - No admin pwd and xp unbootable for DOS lol It occurs to me though that there must be some utility or other that ll do it or failing that various linux flavours Need to set dirty flag - No admin pwd and xp unbootable have NTFS support and should be able to do it - or possibly some sort of live recovery cd for windows Any ideas anybody All this for the sake of a single BIT of info on the hard drive A simple or It s outrageous lol nbsp Need to set dirty flag - No admin pwd and xp unbootable

Auditor Security cd from remote-exploit.org is what you need my friend very handy for cracking admin passwords. just boot to it and you are gold. don't know if you are familiar with this collection cd and if not they have the instruction pdf on the site for download as well. it will crack a 8 letter and asterick password in probably ten to twenty minutes..my admin pass is 15 unprintables and asterick characters and it cracked it with the incremental option on the sam file. took alot longer than it should for your current issue..just an idea mate

I have a Dell 700 Inspirion Laptop that is company issue. My rights are limited to user and as such can not download anything when logged into the company domain. However there is a local laptop domain, not associated with the network that I would like to change my user rights to admin or some level that will allow downloads, etc. Anyone have insight into how this is done if I don't have admin rights on either account right now. Is there a program that I could purchase that would do this?

anyways... i have about 5 thousand system and application records in the event viewer......... everything from service control manager to save dump to DCOM and workstation errors.......................................................................................................all of which i'm clueless

is that many errors normal...........

oh and they all range within a few days.......... usually only mere seconds apart

A:admin tools/ event viewer???

Fortunately, not all errors in the Event Viewer (EV) are real problems. Actually, many are not problems at all. You can adjust the size of the records that are being held in the EV by right-clicking either Application, Security or System and selecting Properties. You can set the size of each file to keep or clear.

Hello I have a friend who used his computer yesterday and today when he attempted to logon to his computer as himself (admin) it tells him "user profile cannot be loaded". I attempted to help him boot into safe mode and change his password. He changed it and it still brings up the same error message. He does have another profile account that his daughter uses but no admin actions can be taken from her account. What can I do to help my friend? This is a challenge I have never encountered during my learning of how to troubleshoot pc's.

A:Can't logon to admin windows vista profile

Ouch. Sounds like a corrupted %USERPROFILE% and the fix requires the Admin-Id.

Have you tried running a System Restore? I will prompt for the admin password.
Issue is, not entirely sure the user's profiles are saved in the restore points.

Hi all So the situation is this I had to setup an existing PC in Admin Privileges Lost the office for a new starter and decided to be lazy and simply change the user account name Lost Admin Privileges I know that was a schoolboy error Since doing this the computer allows me to login fine with the new username password but keeps asking for the Admin login details whenever I try to make system changes update software etc The user account I changed was the admin account so not sure why this is happening I ve tried using every username password that has ever been assigned to that PC but nothing works Is there any workaround to get Admin privileges back so I can fix this FYI - The PC is a member of our work domain so figure this has further complicated things Really hoping this isn t going to need a full re-installation of windows fingers crossed someone out there can give me some good news Thanks in advance nbsp

A:Lost Admin Privileges

The prompt for Admin during installs is actually a good thing (that is the UAC and you REALLY want it to prompt) BUT you can almost always use any log in the Administrators Group

use CP->User Accounts
add user
set type = Admin
*must* add password to it

save and close

runas /user:$whatever$you$just$created cmd
give that password

it will then create the %profile% for that new user

From then on, you can reply with $whatever$you$just$created and its password

Hi!

I have an old Acer Aspire One
A150X netbook with the following specs:

1.6 Mhz Atom chip
1GB RAM
160 GB hdd
8.9 inch screen (1024600)
Windows XP
Does anyone know if it would be possible to run Windows 8 on this computer? I don't expect it to be lightning fast, I'd probably use it for internet browsing, Word, Excel, and to watch some movies...
There is also a recovery partition, would I be able to us this after a clean Windows 8 installation, if it turns out to be too slow?
Thanks.

Hello,

My computer worked as a charm until two days ago. Win 8.1 Toshiba Satellite S50-B. A lot of apps (IE, firfox, chrome) keep crashing on me. When they crash, there is nothing I can do, CTRL ALT DEL does not work. A button appears to stop the application, it doesn't work either. Have to reboot each time. It is getting annoying. Computer is also slower all of a sudden. Scans (virus, MBAM, etc...) don't seem to finish, they just hang at some point. Just ruled out malware in another section of this forum. Any idea?

Whilst logged in as admin is there any way i can access the users email and export to a .pst so i can then re-import it onto a working laptop? If i log in to the user in safe mode, then try opening outlook it comes up with an error, asking me to restart the program or reinstall.
Using Outlook 2003 on XP Pro SP2 laptop.

Hi,

I have had the issue in the past of people changing my computers passwords and I simply boot from my usb or cd and reset the password. However somehow the password was changed on my LG Flatron N1941w and it has neither a usb port or a cd drive. The only thing I can think of at this point is converting the mouse/keyboard port to usb and booting from that...but there must be a simpler way? any input appreciated

A:Changing admin password without usb/cd capabilities

Did you attempt to boot into Safe Mode?

IF/once you get there,

change the pwd for the admin account(s)
use a better method of picking passwords - -
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Password_strength
https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32040?hl=en

Also understand that multiple accounts with Admin rights allows any of them to change all passwords - - obviously just not going to work.

In addition, allowing multiple persons to share the same account has the same problem.

I bought a Dell 660s from Best Buy, and after getting it up and running, I decided that I did not like Win 8. Bought Win 7 and am currently using. With the release of Win 8.1, I think Id like to try 8 again. I think I can download from the net, but I do not know where or how to obtain the security key for my original Win 8. Posted on the Dell message board, but there seems to be very little traffic anymore.

A:Where is Win8 Security Key on a 660s?

The Win8 key should be on the Dell computer you bought.

The old Windows 7 sticker placed on OEM PCs like Dells looks like this:

It contains the key associated with it.

The new Windows 8 sticker looks like this:

As you can see, it does not have the key on it anymore.

I am not really sure what to do here, but that is a synopsis on why that is the case.

I have a HTCP running Win8 Pro x64. The power settings are set to never sleep, allow wake timers.

If I leave computer running, I don't believe it goes to sleep (could be wrong...).

If I set computer to sleep (S3), it'll wake up for the scheduled event, then go back to sleep. Kernel-Power: The system is entering sleep.Sleep Reason: System Idle

Any idea why this is?

A:Win8 sleep

I'm not sure exactly what your complaint is. It's not supposed to sleep in normal use (and doesn't). It can be put to sleep manually with scheduled wake at specific events (and it does). It then goes back to sleep. I would think that a scheduled wake for an event would imply 'resume previous status' after event. Which it does. So ?

My friend recently bought a new Windows 8 laptop which she set up in her name and therefore has a passworded Admin account. I also partitioned the HD so that the smaller portion (C) contains the OS and the larger portion (D) is for all her files.

Since I am only using the laptop temporarily my passworded 'standard' user account is located in (C) and cannot be viewed by anybody else, however, I can view my friend's files which are now being stored in 'D'.

Is there a way to protect the files in the 'D' partition in the same manner as if all accounts were on one drive and password protected?

I'm desperate for a solution because I have exhausted all more likely resources for solutions to my problem. My problem is that the option to burn factory reinstall discs have been removed. In the windows 7 version of this laptop, One Key Recovery provided this option. For win 7 laptops, this allowed people to reinstall the OEM OS on their msata SSD. Now that option is not there. I've burned a system image disc set, I burned a bootable system repair disc. I created a recovery flash drive on a usb stick. Neither of these windows 8 options allowed me to recover to a new drive on the same laptop. I really really hope someone can help me. This is ridiculous.

Toshiba (Satellite C50-B-14D) isn't starting properly, and keeps bringing up a blue troubleshooting page. There are options I'd like to try (refresh the PC, system restore etc.) however, every time I choose one of them, it says there's no admin account on the laptop. Each restart just brings it back to the same page. Stuck in a circle. The laptop didn't come with a disc (it doesn't have a disc drive) so that's not an option. I'd also like to keep the files on the laptop if that's possible.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Laptop not loading - 'no admin account'

To start with, either remove the hard drive and slave it to another computer to copy the data off of it
or, use a bootable drive to boot into another OS and then copy the data to an external drive (may require disabling SecureBoot and enabling legacy/CSM).

Once that's done, start with these free, bootable diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html
Again, you may have to disable SecureBoot and enable legacy/CSM in order to boot from the disks
For the hard drive diagnostics you'll have to either work on finding a bootable diagnostic for a USB drive - or test the drive when you slave it to a working computer.

There are awesome tools here thank you but I'm hoping to get a bit of advance on best way to proceed in this instance Some time ago I bought an open box Samsung laptop from BB that was 'geek certified' It had Win not and from the getgo it was clear steps on pls laptop on Win8 with BSOD box' 'open Help it was Help pls with steps on BSOD on Win8 'open box' laptop not properly configured Because it was a gift I had to clean it before presenting it and due to BB handling I just purchased another one at my destination from a different source and left this one back home Periodically I try to work on it but have not made success NOTE Jump to end for question but I'm putting the other info in case it is relevant to next steps Out of the box I found personal files and IMHO a mishmash of several different OEM Windows files I got past the looping auto repair issue and the IE connects but no other browsers connect to Internet issue but repeatedly got a variety of BSOD There was also an issue with MS resetting the wireless driver with updates so worked around that My theory was that the mixed Windows files were problematic however some of the errors sounded like hardware although I did not get any hw errors located In April I spoke with Samsung who told me to update bios and download their sw update program They also ordered a win recovery disk so I could have clean Windows files The disk recently arrived and I tried all the different recovery options files amp apps files only reset everything etc Option and failed at and Option never came back with success but did not throw any errors I started using the laptop most basically experiencing most of the same issues no internet connection etc as in previous attempt Bluescreenviewer shows the same crashes and relative files as in April just different versions of some of the files Samsung advised to erase the hard disk I asked for clarification a just erase files format only c partition c format and repartition so the hidden partition is cleaned They advised b and NOT to do anything with the recovery partition QUESTIONS Before I start digging in with all the available tools which I really appreciate your sharing I'm wondering if - I already know the original files are not consistently the same version and no way to verify what is the correct list wouldn't the mishmash also be in the recovery partition thus making a c only format immaterial Would it be prudent to replace memory it's only gb now so was planning on increasing anyway before doing anything else in case there is a 'hard to locate' memory issue Should I run thru some of the tools here first or just hit the format avenue now And if format what tool or command is recommended to get the partition ready for a reinstall Should I scrub the drive and just go with Win Thank you I know I'm not providing specific files now but hope that this can be just a direction-pointing assistance request I can't see paying BB for them to do a reinstall that they nuked in the first place nor does it make sense to me to clutter up the forum with logs if I should format first anyway I'm happy to run appropriate tests and provide more data but want to get the proper groundwork done first

A:Help pls with steps on BSOD on Win8 'open box' laptop

Hi -

The very first thing that should be done when buying a system previously owned by another is to reinstall Windows.  As you found out, you never know what the prior owner left behind.

As I was reading your post, my thoughts immediately went to wiping (low-level format) the hard drive  & reinstalling Windows.

IMO, there is no better way to help figure out if your system is suffering from software issues (drivers) or hardware failure.  Assuming the Samsung media (recovery discs)  are good and that your DVD drive is good, Windows should install onto a blank hard drive without any problems if the rest of the hardware is good.

Waiting for Windows 10 RTM and then installing it onto a hardware-failure plagued system obviously will never work and is a waste of time.

I suggest you get Windows 8.1.1 up and running smoothly before even thinking about upgrading to Windows 10.

- Wipe HDD using KillDisk - http://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutorials/449-format-hdd-low-level-format-killdisk.html
- Install Windows 8 using the Samsung Recovery disc(s) -- I assume they are W8 discs - or is it W8.1?
- upgrade to Windows 8.1 (free!) - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8
- allow ALL Windows Updates to install (~150-175+), including Windows 8.1 Update 1
- check Action Center (click on Flag - lower-right screen) and install missing 3rd party (Samsung) drivers -- you can also check Device Manager for conformation.  Look for red/yellow flags

If Device Manager indicates missing device drivers, a quick trip  to Samsung Support site should take care of them - http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads

Since you have the Samsung Windows OEM Recovery media, keeping the current HDD Recovery partition is pointless.  Wipe the entire HDD, not just the c: partition.  The Recovery partition will be recreated during Windows installation onto the blank HDD.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.  That's what we're here for!

Regards. . .

Please post in the original topic so that we know what this is in reference to.

I just installed Windows on my Bootcamp drive but I'm getting constant BSODs Kernel Security Check Failure as soon as I start up I've managed to narrow hardware faults down to an external HD enclosure I use primarily in OSX as a Time Machine drive it works fine in OSX showing all partitions If I unplug the enclosure before booting Windows appears to operate fine but if I plug it in the computer hard locks and when the system is restarted with or without the device attached it blue screens and reboots If the enclosure is plugged in when Windows on BSOD fresh (Bootcamp): Enclosure? HD Win8 first boots it either goes to a neutered Recovery mode you can select all the troubleshooting items but nothing can be done because the OS drive is locked or blue screens within seconds of logging in While I can use Windows without the drive attached I really don't want to have to reach in back of the machine every time I boot to Windows Perfmon gets the refusal message I see elsewhere in the forum so it can't get a report Attached are the FileCollection and a typical Minidump As for the things I've tried before posting BSOD on fresh Win8 (Bootcamp): HD Enclosure? here the enclosure is a Sabrent EC- US enclosure and Sabrent's site BSOD on fresh Win8 (Bootcamp): HD Enclosure? claims there are no drivers required for it Guts of the system iMac GHz quad-i GB RAM TB Fusion Drive all internal hardware standard for the top-line of that time Approx GB reserved for Bootcamp drive edits to correct typos

A:BSOD on fresh Win8 (Bootcamp): HD Enclosure?

The first step is to visit Apple Software Update and get all available updates for your system.Do this first in OS X and make sure you update everything (it may take several trips to get them all). Then do it again inside of Windows (it may take several trips to get them all). Then visit Windows Update and get all available Windows Updates (it may take several trips to get them all). Please remove Classic Start Menu/Classic Shell as I have seen problems with this in Win8.  After the system is stabilized (and fully updated), feel free to reinstall a fresh copy. Only ran the last 9 memory dumps - one of the older dumps caused the app that I use to crash. The other suspicions that I have are these programs/devices:- libusb0.sys - a library that enables access for programs to USB devices- Razer Synapse drivers (a past history of BSOD problems - none recently) As you have problems with plugging/unplugging the external drive - I'd have to suspect the libusb0.sys program first. Please uninstall that and test for further BSOD's.If unable to uninstall it, please post back for suggestions on how to manually disable the driver safely (DO NOT do this yet - it may render the system unbootable). If that doesn't work, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions:  http://www.carrona.org/verifier.html  Analysis:The following is for informational purposes only.[font=lucida console]**************************Wed Jun  3 00:16:08.371 2015 (UTC - 4:00)**************************

Hey guys,
When I visited Windows Update, it said that the one download is Windows Rights Management. (I have XP Pro SP2) Is this anything like the disastrous Sony DRM software? I used to have that on my system.

I've never seen anything like this in my 6 years of tech support.

A user on a Lenovo T400s, Win XP, experiences the BSOD when he attepts to log in with no admin rights. We're currently in the process of locking down our environment and yanking away rights from about 90% of the environment.

So when logging on with my account, and then another tech's account....no issues. Of course - both of us have full rights as tech support. I have two other users (non-tech) log on....BSOD for both of them.

Restore the original user's admin rights.....he's in. No prob. It has me stumped. I want to save re-imaging the laptop as a last resort as it was done a few months ago by a different tech (and I believe it was for the same issue). Obviously it was a temp fix.

Anyone ever seen a non-admin BSOD?

A:BSOD when logging in with no admin rights

I also forgot to mention that once I log on right after this user's unsuccessful attempt, I get a prompt that "there was an issue with winlogon.exe."

I have been trying to configure SMTPBeamer for use in my office. Has anyone been able to figure out how I can leave a copy of the e-mails on the server when a POP3 connection is made to the Intenet server to download e-mail.

Suggestions will help!

A:SMTPBeamer Admin

Check the Internet Mail Options (where you enter your POP3/receiving info. Check in the Edit option for your ISP)
Most email-programs let you change the settings for when you download email. One option is: delete after download, another is: leave on server.
Another way would be to use webmail to read your email on the server and leave as is.

I have a laptop that I received that I didn t want to completely wipe I just wanted to reset the local admin Normally these computers just have the HD s cloned They all use the same various domains for access With this one there are no local admin accounts I don t just mean the name quot administrator quot I mean there are NO local accounts with local administrator privileges I can t even access the computer in safe mode I attempted to use locksmith and Sala s Password Reset tool v but I still can t login locally with any of the local accounts I attempted to upgrade one of the default accounts to admin and then renew the password Also tried to create a new admin account No changes ever show up I ve heard there are ways to kill the local admin access but I never heard of a way that totally prevents the ability to add a new admin It seems that the only way to access the laptop is via domain login admin No accounts? even though there is a local computer login option Anyone ever seen anything like this Know of a way to restore local access nbsp

A:No admin accounts?

You'd probably be better off wiping it and starting from scratch. Too much of a hassle just to get it working and you'd probably still have issues later on.

We currently have an email forwarding service to our Exchange Server. They handle the spam/virus et al protection before it hits our server. We're looking to consolidate all our connection services/web hosting etc.
My question: Is there anything we need to consider in terms of managing our email in-house via basic DNS forwarding vs a managed service? Is it a complicated process if we already have SBS 2003? Am I freaking out unnecessarily?

Thanks

Hi if you had the same irritating problem as me then read on When I bought my PC with XP preinstalled the main admin account was quot user quot R.E. username Nice little admin Tip and I was new to XP months ago so took a few days to get used to it but after a few days I renamed the admin from quot user quot to Nice little Tip R.E. admin username quot mark quot but noticed that my documents folder was still named user try renaming that folder and it won t let you I honestly nearly got to Nice little Tip R.E. admin username the point of reinstalling xp bear in my I wouldn t know how I googled for solutions and all I got where mad suggestions which seemed far beyond my knowledge but glanced through an old mag today and my prob was solved if you do it create a restore point as always open regedit then quot Hkey local machine quot then quot software quot then quot microsoft quot then quot windows NT quot then click quot currentversion quot and click the keys quot registered organisation quot and quot registered owner quot to change job done no probs for me and I hate messing with settings good luck and hope i ve helped someone nbsp

A:Nice little Tip R.E. admin username

Create a new user in User Accounts in Control Panel called Mark (Administrator privlidged)
Log off, then log on to the new user - Mark

This will fix your documents folder to:C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\My Documents

The Windows registered owner can be changed by many tweak tools, or by the manual registry editing (Warning manually changeing/editing the original installed owner name can stop some programs from working or updating, including all Security updates (that have the original installation name attached)

I see "User" commonly on newly installed Windows computers. I've always preferred "WindowsXp" (no spaces) on an Xp install; and "Vista" on a Vista install.
User sounds horrible, not sure why many companies use this as the standard install logon name.

Hello all,

I've been looking for some time for a $subject but I can't find anything so far

This f... sucker of PalmDesktop REQUIRES to run as an admin in order to do anything, with all the security problems that this implies... So, do I have a solution other than changing the ACLs on all of the PalmDesktop directory, ie a correctly written piece of software that can do the same things as PalmDesktop, but as a user?

A:Palm PDA<->Outlook sync software that DOES NOT REQUIRE admin privileges

I have found that you only have to install it under Admin , mine all run fine After I revert the user back to normal.
eg. I add my wife " User Limitied " to the Admin group . Install the software logged on her account . Hotsync. then Remove her from Admin .
It's a small pain , but it works.

Welcome to Techspot I hope you enjoy it here.
It sounds like you did not check the 'Users must enter a user name and passwrd to use this computer ' on the user accounts page for each user including Admin.
If this doesn't work there are other things that can affect this but I would need more info.
Remember the Admin user and user #1 can't have the same name

A:Sony, Rootkits and Digital Rights Management Gone Too Far

The company that created the DRM software for Sony has issued an update:

"SonyBMG and First4Internet, the companies caught installing rootkit-like software on the computers of people who bought certain CDs, have taken their first baby steps toward addressing the problem. But they still have a long way to go; and they might even have made the situation worse.

"Yesterday, the companies released a software update that they say ?removes the cloaking technology component that has been recently discussed in a number of articles?. Reading that statement, and the press statements by company representitives, you might think that that?s all the update does. It?s not.

"The update is more than 3.5 megabytes in size, and it appears to contain new versions of almost all the files included in the initial installation of the entire DRM system, as well as creating some new files. In short, they?re not just taking away the rootkit-like function ? they?re almost certainly adding things to the system as well. And once again, they?re not disclosing what they?re doing." - http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/?p=921

A:When installing Yahoo Messenger It tells me that im not admin...

Since you did not mention which OS that you are using, I am assuming that you are running Win XP Pro.

Being able to access everything doesn't necessarily means that you have administrative permission. Maybe you should just logon as the local administrator and install these software and then log back on as your normal self.

In addition, while you are logon as the local administrator, you can also give the local admin permission to your local account by following the procedure below:

1) Right click on "My Computer" icon on your desktop
2) Select "Manage" from the popup menu to launch "Computer Management"
3) Click on "+" next to the "Local Users and Groups" to expand it
4) Next click on "Groups"
5) Double-click on "Administrators" from the Right Panel
6) Click on "Add" button
7) Type in your local username and click "OK" a few times until you return back to "Computer Management"

That's all.

Hope that helps.

Hello. This is my first post and I am in great need of help.
I have 2 hdd 1 primary and 1 slave. The slave has MS XP but is corrupt. This drive also has files I desparately want to recover. I was able to recover all files in shared documents and unprotected files but I cannot access the files in my personal account which is password protected. All ( and various ) attempts to fix the OS have failed.
Is there any hope?
Thank you.

A:deleting admin password from corrupt drive

Welcome to TechSpot

You can take ownership of these files as follows:
Boot XP into Safe Mode (Press F8 a few times when starting up) as an administrator. Now use Explorer to go to the folders etc. on your old-drives, right-click them, select Properties, click the Security tab and click OK if a security message pops up. Click Advanced, then Owner tab. In the Name list select your (administrator's) name. Mark the Replace Owner on subcontainers and objects check box. Click OK, Yes and OK.

For taking ownership of files, rightclick them, Security tab, Advanced, Owner tab. In Name list select Administrator or Admin-group and click OK. Click Add and in the "Enter the object...list" type a user or group account or Administrator. Click OK. In the group or user name list, click the account you want (e.g. Administrator), then tick the check boxes for permissions, e.g. Full Control [Allow].

I think my hardware is inadequate to the task.

"Windows Setup" - "This platform is not supported." seems to be all I can get from Microsoft.

Probably the limitation is my AMD Sempron 3000+ CPU and not the motherboard (Asus M2A-VM) or the RAM (4GB).

Where can I learn which Socket AM2 CPUs will work? Is there a truly definitive source?

Thanks in advance for all your help (and comments and cute shots about shoddy old equipment).

A:Upgrade an Old XP Box to Win8

More digging.
Coreinfo reports NX, PAE, SSE2 in place. Further it indicates PrefetchW, LAHF-SAHF and CMPXCHNG16B are all present.
Could not find any NX switch in BIOS, so consensus is NX is enabled.

Stumped.

Hi Sophia,
I saw a thread about this matter from about a year ago - (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/3b3f1ccf-ec44-43c5-a410-21be3717bdcf/win81-will-fire-unload-and-load-event-to-the-wpf-application-when-we-close-and-reconnect-to-this?forum=w8itproappcompat),
that you tried to help.
I have the same issue, my wpf application loads my view constructor every time i connect from a remote computer. since i have resources used by the old view my app crashes.
i wanted to know if a solution to this problem was found.

Thanks
Neta

Bad news is it appears to me to be a video card again, the good news it should be under warranty.

It may be worth checking the power supply voltages as often failing power can cause video card failures.

D/L and run Hardware Monitor do something intense like a virus scan or gaming for a bit, Alt+Tab back to HWM expand all the trees and use the Win7 snipping tool to grab a screen shot of the HWM window, post the screen shot using the paperclip button in the advanced message box(Go Advanced button).

I have been having serious issues with my system crashing and restarting, it started a couple of months back, but it has been more frequent in the past few days, it happens 3 to 5 times daily and am a bit frustrated, I use HP g6 system with window 8 OS X86. The system is about 2 years old and I have never re installed or upgraded the OS. Upon the BSOD, it shows IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and after series of checks I noticed the issues is from a driver ntoskrnl.exe, NT Kernel & System. I need help urgently I have attached the zip dump and test files required as stated in the posting instructions.

It crashed on setting an event object, I assume it monitors some sort of traffic on the system?

Hi all. I've got a computer in an enterprise environment running XP Pro, off network, offline.

The software manufacturer (Metso) has locked down the computer to log into a user account that has no admin. I can't access any properties, cmd, control panel, etc - nothing but the software designed to run on start up (Metso) and shut down/restart.

I cannot log out at the ctrl, alt, del - the option is there but it just takes me back to the user desktop.

Getting in on safe mode with command prompt is possible but commands there seem locked down as well (ie. I tried to run desktop.cpl - no luck). I thought maybe there is a command I can run that will switch users but then I realized even in safe mode I am still logged in as the non-admin user.

Is there a linux distro that gives me some control over XP user accounts maybe? Ugh.

Thanx.

A:XP Pro locked down to non-admin user

In Safe Mode, log in as Administrator and leave the password blank, unless you know the local administrator password set by the company.Make sure you change the Domain to (This Computer) If it asks for a password that you don't know, there is not much you can do.
If that works, you will be logged in as the Local Administrator and not the Domain Administrator. Here you can Right click My Computer/Properties/Computer Name/Change. Here, if you are part of a Domain, click the Radio button for Workgroup to leave the domain. You will have to log out and log in as the Local Administrator again. Once that is done, you can create a new user with admin rights for yourself and add your own password if you like.
If this all fails, your only recourse is to reinstall Windows from a Windows disc.

Hello We are preparing some deploy of Windows tablets to use the native Metro Modern email Client using EAS to connect to a Lotus Domino Email Server Initially we can configure the email server connection via Exchange Active Sync without any issue and everything is working and syncing good At this time OS version was After Windows Updates the OS version is now and the focused email client stop working and don't sync Looking for Updates after Metro Mail - Work Client with Windows EAS Stop Win8.1 the account definitions when OS was on the previous version it was possible to define if the connection will use SSL or not With the Win8.1 Metro Mail Client with EAS - Stop Work after Windows Updates new OS version the same account settings show now a quot ghosted quot option to activate or deactivate SSL This could mean the newer version are forcing the SSL use From the server side the SSL is up and running and I already setup the same account that have trouble with the Windows Client in a Android Tablet using SSL and also with Windows and it work without clues on both If I decided to make the Windows Updates before setting up the email Client using EAS even knowing the settings required for the account config are absolutelly correct the email config routine insist saying quot to check the parameters quot and apparently the account is not added but but if I reboot the machine and look for the account it is there with the settings inputed and with SSL checked and ghosted but continuing not working The fields required in both versions to configure a EAS connection are - Account Email address - Email Server address - Domain - User ID - Password So no reference or field relative to SSL So it seems some buggy way how the Metro Email Client make the setup for the account using EAS Any of you found the same issue or have some suggestions to solve this Where are saved the account settings for the native Windows Metro Email Client to try to uncheck the SSL connection since before connecting to mail server I already have a secure VPN connection WindowsApp Where Thanks a Lot for you patience Cheers

While I'm listening to music through any media player and I cause a windows sound to occur the music volume is lowered substantially and then gradually increases back to normal.

I'm using an MSI Gaming Laptop, if that matters.

I've reviewed the settings in the "Communications" tab, via "mmsys.cpl", and checked the option "Do nothing", To no avail.

So, What's the fix for this?

Hi i would like to know is it possible Run a particular program without UAC, I am in a situation where a program for datacard always prompts for UAC to allow connection to internet, It works when i log into admin account. But the program always asks for UAC when run from User account,

I tried creating a schedule task for starting the program from Admin account and created a shortcut for the program.

But when i run the shortcut from user account(standard) it says access denied,

System is Windows 8.1

any help on how to disable UAC for standard user for particular program will help a lot,

Thanks,

A:Admin access from standard user for particular program

You could probably check the properties of the datacard and select it to "always run in admin mode", like you can for software.

I have a very clever young son who knows how to get around our web-filter It took me a bit of work to find out how he does this basically he goes into the control panel and disables the virtual driver associated with the filter and reboots This essentially puts the program quot to sleep quot for his viewing pleasure and then when he's finished he simply reactivates the driver and reboots once more Not only does this enable him to bypass the filter but effectively quot Admin Drivers Questions About Rights and hybernates quot the log files and web tracking files preventing them from logging any information during this period of use Now normally I would simply just set up a separate non-administrative account for him that should solve the problem of him being able to Questions About Drivers and Admin Rights access system files like that However the programs and software he needs for school require admin privs and his father and I both work so we can't be around to supervise him all the time I guess my question here is is there a way I can prevent him from disabling this driver or from accessing system files on his account without removing administrative rights Any suggestions are Questions About Drivers and Admin Rights welcome I'm at my wits end

A:Questions About Drivers and Admin Rights

My recommendation is to perhaps look at some third party software that will not allow him to disable the filter unless he has the password.

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Reinstalling Windows 10 will not affect the write permissions of your PC. You can format the hard drive and install a fresh copy of Windows 10. You can download the build previews online.
