Preferred Solution: Can't enable Boot Option in my laptop.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you highlight that option then press Enter, does not an options dialog box appear?

Re: Samsung 365E5C-S05. In the Aptio Setup Utility, under Boot Option Priority under the Boot tab, the Boot Option #1l is Windows Boot Manager (PO. . . . .) When I highlight it and click on, it says it is disabled and I feel that I have to enable it. Can anybody tell me how to effect that? There are no boxes to check, it jujst says disabled. Thank You.

So I just received my Clevo w110er and excitedly unboxed it, bootable Win 7 SD card in hand, only to find that the bios contains no SD card or USB boot option. There's the SSD the laptop came with and a Realtek PXE boot option, which I can't use any time soon. I don't have an optical drive on this laptop.

Is there a way to unlock or force the boot option for the usb or SD card? Or another way to magically imprint windows onto this machine? I've attached a picture of said lack of options below.

Hi ? I want to have my Acer laptop (running Win7 Home Premium) boot automatically at a specific time of day but there is no option in the BIOS to allow auto start or timed wake up or any such. Any suggestions?

A:How do I set laptop to auto boot without the BIOS option

Welcome to the Forums JoeBela

We have people here with problems with their pc coming on by itself, so there is a way.

I know you can set allow wake timers to "enable" in power options/sleep. How you set the time, I have no idea. I will research and maybe someone else will be along with instructions.

Hey All,

I'm purchasing a new SSD next week. I've been reading up on it and it looks like I need to enable AHCI in my BIOS. I can't find any option for AHCI though.

I currently have my System setup as RAID0. This was how it was set up in the factory and I haven't changed it.

The only option I have is under SATA operation and I can either set it to "RAID Autodetect/ATA" or "RAID ON".

Is there anyway I can check to see whether AHCI is already enabled? If not will one of the above options enable it?

A:How to Enable AHCI - No option in BIOS.

Some motherboards incorporate AHCI SATA automatically. In the early days of SATA there was a lot of confusion in terminology. "RAID" - "AHCI" - all the same thing.

For your motherboard it looks like you want to choose "RAID Autodetect/ATA" to use a non-RAID setup with AHCI.

Hello, guys.I have a LAN (cable) internet connection. Two days ago my computer slowed down, but the only obvious error seemed to be the disability to control enable/disable property of the internet connection.Apparently, though the connection was enabled and I could access internet,it's icon showed disabled. The only time when the connection icon showed proper status was immediately after starting up the PC.Since I have Kaspersky Internet security,I ran the complete system scan.Kaspersky detected two trojans and removed them. The successive scan showed no infections.I ran Ewido anti-malware with the same result.Still,I can't control the internet connection enable/disable option.I'm wandering wether it has something to do with the previously detected trojans.I would appreciate some help with this. Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I seem to be having a frustrating issue. I was attempting to enable my system protection in order to allow me to restore individual files to a previous state. Unfortunately when I go to do so the option is not available at all. I did some research and have not been able to find a solution for this issue. I attached a screen shot of what i'm seeing and what should be available below (found the second one on sevenforums). Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as I have been searching for a solution for this problem for a little over two hours now .

Hey all,

If I disable the windows firewall, I am able to turn on file sharing and network discovery. However, if I turn the firewall on, every time I try to enable file sharing and network discovery, they wont turn on..

I tried to go into the firewall settings and enable file sharing but it's not an option that's available?

If network discovery isn't staying on then you have a bigger problem than just enabling sharing which is done through the Advanced Network Settings at the Network and Sharing Center.

This problem has come up many times and is typically fixable by repairing the base filtering engine which is the actual cause of the problem with network discovery not staying on.

The following link shows you how to fix this problem.

Am I going blind or what? I need to use the shuffle as a USB stick but I can't do that w/o enabling disk use... which isn't anywhere to be found. Here's a picture:

A:No option to enable disk use for ipod shuffle...

You probably have it set to automatically sync, changing to Manual mode should fix it.

When the "Manually manage songs and playlists" option is enabled, the iPod is in "manual" mode. In this mode, "Enable disk use" is always enabled or turned on. This is a feature of manual mode.Click to expand...

About Disk Mode: <<Read here!

iPod shuffle: Turn on disk mode before transferring files
When using iPod shuffle to transfer files, turn on disk mode first. If you don't, it will appear as if you have to make the target computer (the one that you're transferring files to) the owner of iPod shuffle; doing so will erase the contents on the iPod shuffle. Click to expand...

If all else fails, as they say, restore the iPod to factory defaults, I and my son just went through this on a 512MB shuffle, it works wonders....provided you have the files off the iPod, of course....

There is a Reset utility here:

Be sure you absolutely know the exact model, First Gen, 2nd, etc, as it says....

Is there an easy way for me to change the logon option setting to Ctrl-Alt-Del? In W2K there was an easy checkbox setting in users from the control panel. And upgrading to WXP kept that setting. With WinXP preinstalled in a notebook, the logon screen comes up immediately from power up. I would like to require the intermediate step of manually pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del keys before the logon screen appears. I'm willing to reinstall W2K first and then reinstalling WXP as I also want to replace the existing notebook hdd with another larger capacity drive if I cannot find an acceptable answer soon.

After power cycling my receiver, I only have the option to select stereo under speaker setup. When Irestart my PC or log off/log on, it shows the option to select 7.1 surround sound. I am looking at this by right clicking the volume systray icon and selecting playback devices, right clicking my playback device and selecting configure speakers.

My set-up: I have 2 monitors and a TV / AVR receiver combo plugged into a XFX 7870. My receiver is connected with HDMI to my PC and has 7.1 surround out.

I have tried blocking pin 19 on the PC end of my HDMI cable with electric tape but that has not fixed my issue. This happens every time I turn off my TV and receiver and then turn them back on. I shut off my reciever and TV at night but not my PC so this is a bit annoying.

Thanks in advance for the help!

So yeah, my simple issue is thaht i installed windows 7 on a hard drive, which i later replaced with a Samsung 840 SSD, which also was bootable. So now ive got 2 windows 7 options to boot from, and the only bad thing there is is that it takes 30 extra seconds to boot up, which isnt that much of an issue, but thats mainly why i bought an ssd, to get a quick bootup time, and i only use the FIRST (highlited) option of windows 7....

I need to put the Windows OS, that means Windows Boot Manager in BIOS at Boot option 2, but in this case it does not boot.
I need to put at boot position 1 PXE boot and if that fails boot from Boot option 2 (Windows). How could I do that?
My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3.

I am dual booting Win7 Ultimate x64 from a SSD and WinXP Pro x64 from a HDD. After POST, i get to a boot selection screen showing the XP 2003 Server edition (XP x64) and Win7. I could enter Win7 but the default is the setup so if I don't do anything the screen times out after 30 seconds, loads the setup, and BSOD. So whatever. I just use arrow up, select Win7 and I'm fine. BUT, I changed the timeout from 30 to 0 seconds in boot options and now I can't figure out how to get back into Win7. To enter XP, I have to press f11 and select the disk from boot options or else it enters setup and BSOD. I need help on getting settings changed so my PC will automatically boot into Win7 and booting into XP is done as it currently is.

I am not getting the screen asking me to choose which Operating system at boot up. It gives me no options and just Boots straight to the C drive where I have Windows 7 Pro.
In preparation I shrunk the Volume of the C drive and created a new partition (E) in which I made it a simple volume NTFS . I then installed Windows 8 Pro from the CD ROM and everything went fine. However when I re boot it just Boots straight into Windows 7 Pro and no mention of Windows 8.
I tried to use Easy BCD 2.2 and now I have three entries (1) Windows 7 (2) Microsoft Windows 7 (3) Microsoft Windows 8
When I select Windows 8 at boot up I then get an error telling me the boot Load EXE file is corrupt

I am really stumped, I have loaded windows 8 four times and still get the same result. My ultimate goal is to get the Windows Dual Boot Screen.

Seems like you are doing it backwards. Set the hard drive as the primary boot device and temporarily boot the USB flash drive the first time. Then on restarting the first time during the Windows 10 install it will boot to the hard drive and ignore the USB flash drive.

Now It does not show up and I don't know how to Re-enable it. Device manager doesn't show it and tried rescan hardware. Any ideas?

The only thing I did prior was making the audio on the TV the default, this elimated having to manually switch over every time I used it.

Hi everyone.

I've got a few old computers in my basement that I want to install Linux on. The only problem is the BIOS doesn't support USB boot, as they are quite old. What I'm looking for is something I can burn to a CD that will allow USB boot from a YUMI-created flash drive.

Basically it should be like this. First I boot from the CD, then the CD finds the USB flash drive and boots from that. In the end the YUMI boot menu is shown, and I'll have access to all of the distribution installers on the USB flash drive.

Does such a program exist?

PS: I'm not really sure if this thread fits in All Other Software, so if there is a proper category for it, please move it to there.

After much hemming and hawing over whether or not I should upgrade my Lenovo Z70-80 to Windows 10, I finally made the leap, and the transition has been fairly painless. A couple of driver updates here and there, and I'm fairly happy with the results. Hopefully, I won't come across too many issues! Before the upgrade, I had my system startup with Numlock on by default, but this setting seems to have been reversed. I cannot seem to find where to set Numlock on boot. I thought it was in the BIOS, but I can't find it there? While it's only one extra keypress per startup, any help would be greatly appreciated and getting this resolved. Thanks ahead of time for any responses!

Ouch, this could be really tricky to fix (but hopefully not).

First of all, welcome, secondly give your cousin a slap (only joking), try this:

Put your windows cd into your cd drive, boot to cd, when at the operating system install stage, select your C: to install xp to, DO NOT FORMAT OR YOU WILL LOOSE ALL YOUR DATA, windows should state that it has already found a version of windows, do you want to repair, click yes.
Let this finish, your pc will reboot, see if its ok, if not let us know.

A:boot option for USB is not available

swatipandey1394 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I understand your frustration in this, but if the boot menu does not list the USB device, then there is simply NOTHING you can do.  Not all machines can boot from USB.

I recently upgraded my System from P3 to P4, also added a new 120GB SATA Hard Drive which I kept as a Primary Master.I also attached my old 40GB IDE hard drive which is the secondary master. I had installed Windows XP Pro on the IDE HDD and now have installed the same O.S. on the new drive also. In my old system which also had two hard drives (both IDE drives) I used to get a boot option. But with the SATA + IDE combination the boot option has disappeared and it boots directly from the SATA Drive. How do I get the boot option back ? How do I boot from the IDE hard drive??

Hello all,

I've got a machine that I upgraded from 2k to 2k3 server. The problem is that I have two choices for the OS now, and I only want it to boot to the 2k3 only. In fact, the 2k will not boot, but the choice to select it remains. I thought I'd have to edit the boot.ini, but it is not found on 2k3. I'm lost! Please help with any advice.

A:I don't want more than one boot option

My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery -> Settings -> System startup -> Edit

Remove Win2K.

Hope this helps.

I have been having trouble with an USB HP printer not installing correctly. So, I disabled the USB drivers based on a MS article, hoping that they would re-enable on reboot. Well, they didn't. The big problem is that I have a USB mouse and keyboardand the system does not have any PS/2 connections.

How can I get the USB drivers re-enabled so that I can continue fighting with getting the printer working.

A:Solved: usb drivers disabled- how to re-enable them at boot

I would think you can work with the printer driver by going to Device Manager>ports>Printer port Lp1>right click prop>driver.
