I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you patched the game? if so, was it with the autopatcher or stand alone installation?

Have you tried setting it to run in compatibility mode? Try setting it to run in compatibility mode for XP SP2, and Run as Administrator. Just a guess, but worth a shot

Hi Guys This is my very first post on Windows Vista Forums and Ultimate 64-bit Gaming Windows Vista and Gaming Compatibility I am eager to get into this thread First off Windows Vista Ultimate is the very best you can buy for gaming This features the bit OS version which can process GB of RAM at top speeds you can find in a new OS I would definitely recommend this OS for gaming and none other Now on to the main part of my thread Compatibility Gaming This is the most discussed issue for gamers across the US The problem is how do you get games to work specifically older games on Windows Vista Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Gaming and Compatibility Gaming Ultimate Well there are solutions You could wait until the company of the game makes a OS patch for the game although that could take a while You could go into the game files and put the game into compatibility mode for your OS And You could revert back to an older OS that works for your game Which one would you choose I would choose They are always going to make games work on a newer OS Lets take the game Lord of The Rings Battle for Middle Earth amp Electronic Arts EA has already made a patch for those two that will have more chance of running on Vista If doesn't work then it's the type of computer hardware you are using The hardware would guarantee be outdated In that case just get more recent hardware It's not that difficult With a bit of research common sense and problem solving skills you can get gaming compatibility issues out of your hair I hope this thread has helped a couple of you out there Sincerely alienware Think I helped you out Click the scales Give me some rep Thanks

I am not sure if this is the game itself or just trying to run it on dial up but here it goes anyways.
I try playing MMO's on my lap top from a dial-up modem and everytime i open any of them i immediately lose internet connection; but, if i am somewhere where wireless is compatible they all work fine. Right now the problem occurs with Ragnarok online, and im wondering if its just that dial-up isnt really made for MMO's or if its just issues with the laptop itself.

So recently i have just bought a gaming PC for almost 950$   Specs: i7 3770GTX 660 2GB8GB RAMASUS MotherboardWindows 7 32 bitAnyway any game that I play has run super slow and with low FPS   Games I have tried:GTAIVMetro:Last Light Farcry3When i start the games, my PC puts the settings to the fullest by default. All drivers have been downloaded and installed prior. But this is very frustrating and I dont know what to do. I am going to try to install 64 bit but still that shouldn't have to be done ultimately. Someone needed to help me out because i would like to get some entertainment out of almost $1000

A 32-bit Windows operating system will recognize up to 4GB of RAM, but will not be able to utilize the total amount because the address space is only 4GB in size, the draw from critical functions such as the system BIOS, motherboard resources, memory mapped I/O, AGP, PCI, PCI-E, and other memory allocations for PCI devices use this space as well.

Hi

I recently but a Dell without a gaming graphics card, and I'm trying to play red alert 3. I'm using a Toshiba Tv as a monitor, and when the game is launched the screen goes black, and get an error that says "no signal or unsupported video signal". Is there anyway to adjust the settings to make the game compatible? The game's requirements for a video card says 256 MB. Any advice?

A:gaming issues due to ICS under xp

It is one of the "features" of Windows firewall/ICS to let you forward only single ports. Also, many games do not use static ports to do their stuff.

You either need some better ICS software (Linux ) (a hardware router would be an overkill) or just connect the laptop directly to the LAN.

Are you sure you have your monitor set to the right port? If so, test using another cable and/or port before moving on to problems with the machine.

Hey it's been a while since i've posted anything, but as of late i've been having issues with my soundblaster X-fi card i bought a few months ago. It always seemed to work fine, but just this week when i launch BF2 or BF2142 and go to the audio settings, it is always (seems to default every time) is set to "software" rendering, and when i click on the creative x-fi setting, it gives me a message saying i dont have the hardware to support that setting. I can run hardware rendering with EAX turned on, and that is fine and seems to stay. But i used to be able to run X-Fi mode perfectly, that is what bothers me. Suggestions/tips/advice more than welcome! Thanks!!

A:Windows 7 Gaming Issues

you may need to talk to your manufacturer if it's a namebrand PC/laptop, or your motherboard producer if it's custom-built as there can be problems with Windows 7 which can be solved by upgrading your BIOS(apparently)
note: based on what I've read, you can cause serious problems by installing the wrong BIOS i.e. making your system unusable,
only install a BIOS "if your manufacturer tells you to" only.
I have Windows 7 which I had problems with (freezing applications and games not installing) hence I checked this up with my manufacturer, I have not received a reply yet so I'm not entirely sure if this is necessary.

I noticed a few days ago that my fps during gaming has dropped quite a bit. It's been about two or three days. Before then I would get around 60 fps in all of my games with no problem. Now I'm getting around 20-30 and it stutters a lot. I've tried googling this issue and I've tried everything that has been recommended from those threads. I've made sure my drivers were up to date, I've defragmented my hard drives, I've cleaned out my pc, I've scanned for viruses several times. My temps are fine. I've tried just about everything I could think of. Any sort of help would be appreciated.

Hello, I'll start off with my specs then move onto my issue

Windows XP pro SP2
Intel P4 3.2gig
2gigs DDR2 ram
nvidia GeForce 7900 ko

Its a working installation and the only real issue is that when gaming there are random green pixels generated over the black or dark-colored things, also some models have a...random similar colored line leading off into the sky (generally first person shooters)
I thought this might be my drivers so I reinstalled them but this has not fixed the issue. Does anyone have some light to shine of the situation before I have to go off and reformat?

I posted about this problem a few weeks ago. Someone recommended I try getting a beefier power supply. I've tried that and it didn't work. The problem is I get massive screen issues when I try to play a game with certain settings. This is what it will normally look like: Imgur . From experimentation I've been found out that one of the big problems causing this is Multisampling AA in high fidelity games another is if I try to run certain games at 1920 by 1080 (in these games I can put the graphics up really high but the resolution causes issues). Does anyone know why this might be happening and if there is anyway to solve it without turning down AA? Here is the parts list in case it turns out to be a hardware issue: Intel Core i3-4150, Sapphire Radeon R9 280, Corsair 300R - System Build - PCPartPicker

A:Need help! Having visual issues while gaming

Hi JanJonDijon,

Do you have the power supply that is in your PCPartPicker list ? Because 450W might not be enough for a R9 280.

Hello,

I believe my computer is over-heating when I play games. I'll use Mass Effect 2 as an example. When i'm not playing ME2 the temps look fine being around 50-60ish. When I load up the game, alt-tab and wait about 5 min the temps jump to 90-100 easy. From what I've read this is probably a fan problem. My computer model apparently has had many problems with the graphics card over-heating. So I guess I'm asking what I should do from here.

Gateway FX: P-7811FX

Graphics card: Nvidia geForce 9800M GTS

Also, i forgot to mention that my CPU is at 90-100 when I play games. Didn't know if that would make a difference or not, thanks!

Thanks in advance for the help.

hey i was wondering if you could help me with a small problem ive been having. i use a 8600gt on vista ultimate and have been using it for 1 year, but ive experienced a much slower gaming experience on games like cod 5 and gta 4 with vista ultimate and windows aero, yet when i reverted to using xp my problems were solved, but since windows vista basic doesnt use aero, would the gaming experience be any different on vista basic than it is on windows xp? thanks a bunch , raiyan =)

A:Vista gaming vs Xp gaming

Well i read that only the vista can use the all power of the new directx, so it should be better for games, anyway Windows Vista is heavier than the XP, even if you disable the Aero. How many RAM do u have?

I no longer believe it is graphics related at this point, because even lowering all setting on the game to the lowest does not improve how it handles.Hopefully someone will know more about fixing this issue than me.

What sort of games are you trying to play?  The 9800 GTX+ is an 8 year old card, not really up to the job of running modern games.

So i installed this software in the hopes that once the trial 30 days was up i would buy it , But i have had nothing but problems with it .
I activated "Gamemode" but after every match on Battlefield 4 it goes back to normal mode causing Lag and horrible hit detection in game , I know this software was to blame as now i have uninstalled it my Lag has gone and my Hit detection back to normal .
I need a AntiVirus suite but i need one that does not interfere with my online gaming as that is what my machine is primarily for and its no slouch either.

Was particularly disappointing as this software states it is very good for gamers .

A:Major issues with Nod32 & Gaming

Hi the geekfreak It's a known fact that the "Gaming Mode" of Antivirus programs usually cause a lot of issues in-game: lag, delays, FPS drops, etc. I personally never used the Gaming Mode in Kaspersky Internet Security, and everyone I know disable that mode when they play online games on their own Antivirus. So I would suggest you to do the same. Since the Gaming Mode of ESET doesn't do much when enabled (security wise), I suggest you to just leave it disabled, then play Battlefield and see if the performance is better that way.

I am having gaming, when issues and Processor Streaming? trouble with my Processor when I am gaming Processor issues when gaming, and Streaming? Black Ops and streaming with OBS My processor is Intel Core i -MQ Ghz Turbo up to Ghz I got Gbs of Ram and Nvidia Geforce GT M gb This is what my problem is Usually when I play Black Ops I can have almost high graphics I cap at Frames and its stable But over time or the higher I try to go My frames stay at but go down to mid s sometimes The thing is that my audio kinda cuts out and glitches out and stutters when that happens Thats how i know its my processor Well when I stream I use FPS and superfast for my CPU Processor issues when gaming, and Streaming? Black Ops is with everything turned down and I also have Itunes playing Over a short time it starts doing the frame drops and audio glitches etc Is there something wrong with my processor Cause my processor Graphics and Ram are more then capable to stream and play black ops with higher graphics without doubt My GPU tempature stays at around because I took off the base under neath to keep it cooler but thats when I stream Without it it stays at Taking the bottom off put the temparture down by at least I really wanna fix this problem cause I love streaming Thank you

A:Processor issues when gaming, and Streaming?

Frames/sec dropping from 60 > 55 is nothing, perfectly normal in any game. No problem at all.
A re-install your sound driver is an obvious thing to try.

Running another sound Application like Itunes whilst running a game is not a good idea. It may not be up to job of so many sound channels at the same time.

I don't know Itunes, but if there is a means of lowering it's priority, resource usage you may gain something. The thing is, is the game sound OK when you are not running Itunes ?

I don't see your CPU processor as anything to do with this at all.

Ran Quantum Break with both Integrated GPU (Intel 520) & ATI R5 M335. ATI is giving very poor performance even in the Lowest settings possible (around 15-25 fps). I know it's not a fancy GPU but should atleast be able to handle at Low settings. When on integrated GPU, game runs with similar fps or a bit better (in my opinion). ***??. Dedicated GPU should be better than iGPU!!! Ran MGS V:Phantom Pain, current ATI R5 M335 gave lower fps(~20-25) with similar settings compared to my old notebook GPU ATI Radeon HD 7670M 2GB(~30fps).
What's wrong? Am I doing something wrong? Any solution??

Today I started up my Plaid and gaming issues squares green Asus laptop and lo and behold there are green squares everywhere To make matters worse none of my games are working anymore right when I wanted to start a weekend-long TF gaming session To clarify when I say they don t work I mean to say that they are incredibly slow I tested World of Goo and while the loading screens work fine as soon as I get to the menu all I see is a black screen with intro music If I wait long enough seconds the picture changes but the game has worked perfectly so far As for TF All my Valve games load up but when they are about to show Plaid green squares and gaming issues the menu they shut down So I ve scoured the internet and can t find the first mention of this or my games anomoly I really wouldn t mind it so much if my games only worked What I ve tried so far Uninstalling and reinstalling my ATI drivers When uninstalled there are no green boxes Updated the drivers Doesn t do anything and since I have the x there is no point as ATI isn t cover the x s anymore Reinstalled Directx Nothing Gone to my original drivers that came with the laptop Doesn t remove the green and the game problem is still there I m convinced it s not a driver problem but I m not sure exactly what I haven t done Plaid green squares and gaming issues anything out of the ordinary graphics wise so this problem coming out of the blue like this is worrying Thanks in advance for everyones help I ll provide as much info as I can nbsp

Hello,

I just purchased a Fatal1ty Gaming Headset (jacks, not USB) from newegg.com and for some reason i cant get the mic to work. I've browsed these forums for a few hours now looking for an answer but I cant seem to find anything that works for me. I've feel like I've tried everything. The computer only recognizes the mic build into my computer, which is just picking up white noise from my fan (hence the mic)

My computer is a Macbook Pro 17" (Bootcamped Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)

Attached is an image of the recording devices pane.

A:Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset - Mic Issues

The Stereo Mix should be set as the default recording device (then whatever is plugged in you should hear). When you plug in the headset, does it show the microphone as connected? (or whatever yours states for an active device).

You can click on a device and get another panel which has a volume control for the device.

Hello!

I have been having trouble off and on with sound and video stutter in games and video playback (mostly through flash players but can be seen sometimes with video players like MPC).

I believe it is something eating up my CPU but am not positive. Gaming-wise it doesn't matter if I have it on high or low settings. I mainly play online games but I'm confident my internet connection would not be the problem (don't exactly see how it could be in this case anyways). My system does not have the best specs but should be able to play the games I'm running and shouldn't have problems with video playback.

My temps are fine from what I can see (using CPUID HWMonitor for that).

Basic system specs are in my profile and I've attached my dxdiag for a bit more info.

If you need any other detailed info please ask.

Some other games, even 3D intensive ones either run without issues or I haven't run into them yet.

It started with a few "KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR" (0x7a with Parameter 1 as 20)... I only got one of those dumps, the very first because for some reason it didn't (and still doesn't) save all dumps to disk as they happen, but seems to freeze with that typical audio-stutter before it can manage to do that sometimes.
- I let memtest86 run for 2 passes and didn't find any errors. (I can probably let it run for a lot of passes some night while I'm sleeping)
- I changed the pagefile to different disks
- I moved the system disk (WD Caviar Black 1TB) from a SATA3 6GBps slot to another one in the belief it might be a controller issue.
- I did a Bootup CHKDSK (and the system did it by itself several times after BSODs and fixed some corrupt entries)
- I regurarly check the Harddrives Statuses with HDTune and they all seem fine/healthy.

Afterwards I've had a lot of "CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION" (0xf4 with Parameter1 as 03)
- I checked the temperature of both CPU/GPU and it seems to stay "normal".
- I updated the BIOS, chipset drivers, video drivers (also tried reverting video drivers)
- I checked my system with Avira and MSE and took a look at usual Run/RunOnce registry entries + HiJackThis logs
- I tried underclocking my graphics card
- I probably also did several other things I can basically not remember and I have totally run out of ideas...

System:
CPU: Intel Core i7 950
MoBo: ASUS Sabertooth x58
RAM: 6GB (3x2GB of Corsair XMS3)
GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce GTX460 (1GB Model)
PSU: Enermax Liberty 500W

Two causes

1-Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads

when you're done you can use this Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) in its place.
2-csrss.exe. Csrss.exe can either be a system file or malware. If located in system 32 is probably a system file., IF not probably malware.

If in system 32 I would run a system file check

In any case I would download malwarebytes or super anti spyware and run it

So I followed the instructions and had uninstalled everything i installed with the disc it came with. I then downloaded the drivers from the creative website for windows 32bit and restarted.

Still no mic i checked the settings in the sound and nothing is muted and all bars are at high. I can hear everyone but no one can hear me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello BIGGD,
Have you configured the mic in the control panel ?.
Go to control panel and open Sound, there you will see a panel that looks like this, highlight the mic you are using and configure.

Also if you are using the mic in a game, you may need to configure the mic in the game sound options, make sure you dont need to press a key to transmit.
Hope some of this helps, Good luck and post your results.

I play games on an Asus laptop with only an NVIDIA 960M graphics card. I play some games at lower resolutions to keep up frames while gaming. Prior to the update I could alt+tab out of the game and the desktop screen would return to 1920x1080 and tabbing back in would keep lower resolution I have set for the game. Now, when alt tabbing out of of lower resolution screen, Windows desktop reverts to the lower resolution I have set for the game (in-game resolution is 1280x720, as exclusive fullscreen). And when tabbing back into the game there are some video settings being used that are used for 'borderless window' instead of my setting of exclusive fullscreen.

Hey guys I harddrive gaming, issue? Computer Restarting/crashes issues.. during ve been trying to help my friend get her computer issues worked out for a while now She s quite a few states away from me so I can t be there physically to look at the hardware and test stuff to get a verdict The problems have been this During gaming MMORPGS specifically Neverwinter Nights City of Heroes World of Warcraft there has been something that has caused either the application itself to close generate a crash Computer issues.. Restarting/crashes during gaming, harddrive issue? error or the computer gets a BSOD error message and automatically restarts First I tried getting her drivers updated DirectX video card etc in hopes that it wasn t a hardware issue Turns out none of that helped For a little bit I had the same problem and it ended up being overheating Caused my computer to restart but errors weren t generated Nothing in BIOS suggested overclocking so I m assuming that isn t the issue Next thing I thought could be the problem was bad RAM Computer issues.. Restarting/crashes during gaming, harddrive issue? RAM was interchanged two different MB sticks both high quality pieces no difference shown So now it s down to what The motherboard or the harddrive I wouldn t expect the CPU or video card to be the problem with these sorts of errors Power supply is also more than adequate for the PC so that s not it either Through a little exploring I found out about quot Eventvwr msc quot and had her run that and take a look at the errors The system errors were all quot The device Device Harddisk D has a bad block quot Computer issues.. Restarting/crashes during gaming, harddrive issue? So does that point at the harddrive being the problem I ve been thinking of every possible way to fix it and so far I ve been absolutely no help Can t stand to see the problems continue so I m hoping someone on here could give me some help Thanks in advance - kasel nbsp

A:Computer issues.. Restarting/crashes during gaming, harddrive issue?

You could try a chkdsk /f to be run at the next boot. Find this option in Disk Management.
There is also a program called HDD Regenerator, which does just that, regenerate the HD without destroying anything on it. www.dposoft.net
Works like a charm.
Do not underestimate the importance of a GOOD powersupply. Some 500w PSUs crap out at relatively small loads, other 350w PSUs happily drive a AMD64, latest ATIcard and 10 drives etc. without batting an eyelid.

Welcome to the forums ptERR and thanks for the information you have provided, let's begin with the analysis:

Code:
BugCheck D1, {e0000000, 2, 1, fffff88002c54a5b}

Probably caused by : hardware ( afd!AfdBFillPendingIrps+1b )
Stop 0xD1 is usually caused by drivers referencing invalid memory addresses and causing interrupts at IRQL levels which are too high. However, from the excellent information you have already provided, and the information from the Minidump, the first parameter tells us the memory address being referenced, and it appears to be within one of the CPU caches.

The CPU register being read from, is the memory address which was referenced, therefore I believe it is most likely a CPU issue.

The driver referencing the address seems to be your Realtek network driver (Realtek RTL8168D/8111D), I suggest you update this driver from here: Realtek

A:Vista & Gaming

Having run VistaU32 for an extended period and then moving to VistaU64 I'd say that 32bit is the safe bet for now, if you want the largest possible percentage of you legacy games to run. As far as what people "say" about Vista, I've long since given up on entertaining the thoughts of people who don't even have Vista loaded, which is where the vast majority of negative comments come from.

Can games that are tried and tested to work perfectly on Windows XP work just as well if not better on Vista OS'?
I've been thinking of getting a laptop to play a few low end games on (hightest is probably command and conquer or Dawn of war) and to use MSN and such on.

Vista or XP?

A:Gaming on Vista

I've heard a lot of hard-core gamers say that Vista is equal or slightly less fast as XP. If this is not a serious endeavor, and your hardware supports it, I'd go with Vista.

I currently have a machine with a 3.0 GHz C2D 6 MB L2, 3 GB of RAM, and a GTX 260. It has Vista Basic as of now, and I'm not sure whether I want to do a clean install of Vista or the 7 release candidate.

The games I have installed right now are COD:WAW, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Mirror's Edge, and various Steam games (L4D, HL2, etc.), and I run these at native 1080p. I looked at the thread regarding games that work, and it looks like all my games will be fine. I just don't know about the performance comparisons between Vista and 7, so whatever recommendations you all have will be greatly appreciated!

A:Vista or 7 RC for Gaming Rig?

Hello and Welcome to the Se7enforums! Spartan Erik

I have a good feeling that all those that downed Vista and raved about XP being better for gaming will be in for a big surprize. You may want to look over the article titled posted on the other thread started by another member. Windows 7 will give boost to PC hardware

For trying out one of the 7 RCs even both before 7 is released on 10/22 you have until August 20th to download either or both directly from Microsoft. That would give you the opportunity to get familiar with the next version free of charge as well as allowing you a first hand comparison.

Another option to consider if you have the drive space available would be considering a dual boot of both Vista and 7. Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and Vista

I'm sure there's been a ton of these but i want one more up to date, I'm wondering how is vista sp1 on gaming vs xp sp3?

A:Vista Sp1 v XP SP3 Gaming

Using Vista 32bit hasn't been much of a problem. Though if I were you I'd stick with XP, more reliable and has fewer problems with games, also less connection problems with online gaming (not to mention you'll be able to run all the games out ther pretty much).

If you do end up choosing Vista no matter what you do, do NOT go for 64-bit, it is an anti-game hellhole.

hello all i am new to these forums but hope that someone here can solve my problem.

i have recently purcahsed windows vista ultimate and installed it, desktop applications and such run veryy smoothly, but today i attempted to play fear, and it took 8 minutes for it to load the level straight after that i can safely say that during game play i got less then 1 fps. Could these be related to the windows vista nvidia drivers or not, does any one have a link or anyidea how to get them working properly, even My fifa games have drastically dropped Framerates.

i played all of these games on windows XP (sp2) in wich i got 40-50+ fps. these are my specs

Geforce 7600GT XXX Edition @ 650Mhz - 1.6ghz

Hi mostkritical,

Could you provide a link to your motherboard the only info I could get on the model number you have listed is a socket 754 board witch does not support a X2-4200

I was looking for info on your board because I wonder what chipset it has and if you got and installed the vista chipset drivers. Also did you get the vista drivers from nvida?

I am not big into gaming so I am not sure how much help I can be but if all the latest drivers are not installed this could be the problem. If the board happens to have a via chipset I am fairly familiar with it and vista

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L305, running Vista SP1, that locks up and freezes at random time intervals from the time the computer connects to the internet.

I have run multiple virus scans using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, in both Normal and Safe modes that have determined that the system is indeed clean of malware.

I believe the Network Adapters are the cause for the system freezing based on information found after running ipconfig /all. There are multiple Adapters that, based on internet searches, have something to do with the iP6 protocol.

Also, it is worth noting that there is an issue with the Device Manager. The Device Manager will not allow me to view Properties on any of the installed devices.
Subsequently, I can't uninstall the network devices for Windows to re-install to 'reset' the network settings.

* sigh*

Any help anyone would have would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings I just switched my main computer from XP Pro to in a different HD Vista One of the reasons for the switch was that I had purchased the computer with GB of RAM and I wanted to see what kind of performance I could get from it These are my specs Computer Systemax Processor Intel reg Core Quad CPU GHz MHz Operating System Microsoft Windows Vista x GB of RAM when I extracted these specs - I was testing to see performance DirectX version Realtek Winfast PX GT HDMI NVIDIA GPU processor GeForce GT ForceWare version Total av graphics mem MB Dedicated video memory MB As far as the performance issue I am afraid I am not seeing a definite increase in performnce comparable to the XP - 64 Desktop Pyrotechnic Issues Vista Performance - Issues Pro Vista 64 Issues - Pyrotechnic Desktop - Performance Issues installation with just GB to Vista 64 Issues - Pyrotechnic Desktop - Performance Issues be exact due to XP utilization of memory I am starting to woonder if there is something I can do to increase the system performance otehr than the obvious Take out Aero etc It's not the the computer is slow in handling programs but some interface activities Vista 64 Issues - Pyrotechnic Desktop - Performance Issues such as opening and closing folders and windows launching programs etc Are as fast or slower than on the XP OS Most recent problem It's actually hard to explain precisely what is going on but I'll try my best With a frequency of about times a day and with no apparent cause the screen will go black Open windows and the desktop below will flash on and off and if I move the mouse arrow over the blackened screen parts of the interface show up only to disappear again The Windows taskbar including the quot Start quot button move to the top of the screen but the Vista quot Start quot button is also visible in the bottom left corner Neither the taskbar on top or the Start button on the bottom are actually functional This can go on for a while since it is hard for me to close windows and save my work If I hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete Vista switches to the regular screen without any of the issue present on the regular desktop but as soon as I click to open the task manager and I go back to the desktop it starts again Naturally I cannot be sure it is the video card but it seems a possibility I did a few Google searches and it seems to have happened to other people as well But it's hard to tell because just describing this issue is very hard Anyone having similar problems

A:Vista 64 Issues - Pyrotechnic Desktop - Performance Issues

Performance is an elusive issue in higher end computers such as yours.First tho' - Most likely your graphics drivers are a tad bit corrupted, and the following will help to update them:Download the latest forceware drivers for your OS and video card (according to what I read, these are the most current: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_169.25_whql.html )Uninstall the nVidia stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program.Uninstall the video card from Device Manager (go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter)Reboot and dismiss any "Found New Hardware" dialogs.Double click on the freshly downloaded drivers and follow the prompts. In most computers the big 3 performance issues are:- the hard drive- the RAM- the CPUSo, that's the first place to check. Luckily Vista has a number of tools to help with this. The first is Task Manger (right click on the Task Bar and select "Task Manager". Scroll through the tabs to see what's going on inside of your system.Next, go to Start and type in "compmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then start looking at this stuff (it's listed in the left hand pane):- Event Viewer...Windows Logs...both the Application and System logs- Reliability and Performance...Monitoring Tools...both the Performance and the Reliability monitors- Device Manager- Disk Management- Services and Applications...ServicesWhat are you looking for? Well, that's a bit tougher. What you're looking for is anything out of the ordinary. Scroll through them all and look for stuff that grabs your attention - then we can move on from that.

I think you need to do some Game research and find out if the versions of these game are compatible with Vista. Most of the issues with games and Vista is with the games.

You need to check things out and not JUST go and install things that you don't know if they will work or not.

A:Vista Gaming Problem

Consider yourself one lucky and special guy if your PC boots up in 40 secs or so in Vista... mine takes about 2 to 3 minutes on a good day and NO, I don't have may startup apps running on the background and YES, I already did the tweaks necessary.

Anyways, my suggestion would be, Go back to XP, perhaps it works extremely good with your rig, why ruin a good thing? What can you do with Vista/Win 7 that you Can't do with XP? What is so outdated about XP? I run Vista and Win 7 because my games run faster on Win 7. I am about to take down Vista and go back to XP for many different reasons... one being the lag of the internet with Vista compare to XP.

i recently bought C&C Tiberium Wars which is refusing to run on my Vista 64 bit OS. My configuration is way in excess of the minimum system requirements but i understand that there is some issue with the game running in 64 bit. What do i do? How does running it in XP compatibility mode work?

A:Vista 64 Bit Gaming Compatibility

If you want the quick step by step instructions to run a program in compatibility mode you can just open up the help file in windows (hit START menu>help )

It has links on how to set up compatibility mode for XP all the way down to windows 95.
It works pretty well, but one of the important things you may have to set is "run in administrator mode"
Also if you have UAC (user access controls ) enabled, you may have to click through "yes i would like to do this function" a couple times.

I can get most older games to run this way, but some games the old 16 bit ones are just not compatible with the operating system.
