windows installer rogue window issue

Q: windows installer rogue window issue

When Vista starts for me, after it loads everything, it also bring up a window for Windows Installer that starts to load something (doesn't say what, just says "preparing to install"), then closes after 3 or 4 seconds.
How do I stop that window from opening each time I start Vista ? I am assuming its something left over in registry perhaps, but haven't a clue how to find it and remove it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm trying to install windows using an original installer issue 7 Window cd When i boot up it says loading files and then opens up command prompt On the title it says quot Administrator X windows system cmd exe quot and within the window it says quot Microsoft windows version X windows system gt quot When I type a letter it appears like so quot F quot and nothing happens when i press enter A few days ago i went to watch quot the interview quot on one of those file hosting websites I got several random pop ups My keyboard went haywire It basically went into some sort of shortcut mode I couldn't type anything So if I pressed the letter quot N quot while chrome was open it'd Window 7 installer issue open up new window If I pressed quot W quot it'd close the window Other letter Window 7 installer issue than don't normally have any shortcuts wouldn't do anything After searching the web the only temporary fix that I found was Window 7 installer issue going into control panel and enabling and disabling sticky keys and opening on screen keyboard and minimizing it That would allow normal functionality for an hour or so and then it'd go back into yolo mode Out of frustration I used DBAN to wipe the entire hard drive clean and now i'm trying to re-install windows with a legit CD and it's being all slutty I'm on a Dell Laptop I tried using external keyboards but that didn't work either I did scan for viruses malware and adware using kaspersky malwarebyte and another adware removal program that i don't remember

Every time I right click on a icon Window Installer will Pop-Up? And it will say:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
Click OK to try again, or enter an altemate path to a folder containing the installation package
'nero.express.msi' in the box below.

I don't have nero? and this does this for every icon I click on ! I can not even install any programs with out having a error or failure installation.

Hello inkslinger,

Sounds like you may have bad installation media. If you like you could download an official ISO file at the link below, and be able to create a installation DVD or USB from the ISO.

Microsoft: Windows 7 Direct Download Links

Hope this helps,
Shawn

The stupid thing is back and can't get rid of it by closing or ending task. It just won't let me. The only way for me to get rid of it is to turn off certain things on the start up. But I don't know why they are causing the problem.

The start up things I disabled are:

hp digital imaging all in one files
HpqSRmon application
hp quick play

I haven't pinpointed which particular file (s) are causing the problem yet. but did manage to narrow it down alittle.

What do I do? I am not familiar with this computer.

I am having trouble with this little window popping up.
It says windows installer.
I hit cancel and it comes right back and I hit cancel like two more times and then it lets me do a couple things and then it pops up again.
Our computer was getting slower and slower so I figured I would go thru the remove programs and clean some of the stuff out that we do not ever use.
I am thinking I must of removed something I should'nt have.
Any one have any tips on repairing the windows installer problem.

Thanks for any help.Doug

Hi,

I keep getting a windows installer popup window whenever I open ANY program. It says that “The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the disk and click OK. There is nothing listed in “Use Source”. I can’t tie it to anything I have done recently.

I have Windows XP SP2

Can anyone help?

Thank you,

A:Windows Installer Window Keeps Popping Up

Hi grandmagail

Do you have Microsoft Office installed?

If so, insert the Office disk and direct the Windows Installer to the disk, for the source.
If it is not the source, you should see a message to that effect.

Let us know what happens.

In today's world the cyber crime has come to an enormous dimension and any means is used to infect personal computers to make use of their stored data or machine power for further propagation of the malware files. A popular means is the use of file-sharing tools as a tremendous amount of prospective victims can be reached through it.It is therefore possible to be infected by downloading manipulated files via peer-to-peer tools and thus suggested to be used with intense care. Some further readings on this subject, along the included links, are as follows: "File-Sharing, otherwise known as Peer To Peer" and "Risks of File-Sharing Technology."Removal InstructionsI do not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't. 2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and keep either AVG or Spyware Doctor Or Zone Alarm and uninstall the other two. Please run DDS and post both the fresh DDS.txt to your reply.

Hi jgb99 -I have just been through a severe similar case, that also included Microsoft Security Essentials Antivirus. The following steps listed by a M/soft helper fixed my problem and then 4 updates also appeared also. This issue can occur due to one of the following reasons:1. Incorrect System Date and Time settings.2. Incorrect Browser Settings.3. Corruption of Windows Update Components4. Corruption of browser settings or older updatesTo fix MSE installation and General update issues due to the above mentioned causes follow the steps below. Please note down any error messages or notable changes you find as you try the steps. :NOTE:- Before we start with the troubleshooting steps, I would like to inform you that I have added Result for each step. Please make sure that you fill up the results for the respective troubleshooting steps so that we can isolate the issue based on the results. Your co-operation is highly appreciated.Firstly please perform this general step:General step: Remove the other (secondary) security software (running multiple security software simultaneously will decrease the performance of the computer and the programs may conflict with each other)Please open the link http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_start/list-of-anti-malware-program-cleanupuninstall/407bf6da-c05d-4546-8788-0aa4c25a1f91 and remove the other security software using appropriate link and restart the computer.Step 1: Changing System Date and Time Settingsa. Click Start-> run, type Timedate.cpl, and then press Enterb. You will get the Time and Date settings window.c. If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.Result: Step 2: Synchronize the time with an internet time servera. Follow the sub-steps a and b in step 1b. In the internet Time tab check the option Automatically synchronize with an internet time serverc. In the option for Server enter time.windows.com and update now and Apply and OK.Result: If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.Step 3: Reset Windows update componentsRun the fixit from the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 and restart the computer.Result: If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.Step 4: Perform IE OptimizationWhen you perform IE optimization, all temporary internet files, add-ons and customizations are deleted, and you basically start with a fresh version of Internet Explorer. Please copy and paste the link mentioned below in the address bar of the Internet explorer page and hit enter.http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9646978If you are unable to open the link, then please copy and paste the address in address bar. When it prompts please click on Run and follow the on screen instructions.Result: Now let us know if this has in any way solved any of the problems --Thank You -

Hi and welcome to the HijackThis Logs and Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal forum,I am and I am here to help you!I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those I suggest to you while I am cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so I know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process. Please perform all steps in the order received and do not proceed if you need clarification. Please copy and paste al logs into your post unless directed otherwise. Please do not re-run any programs I suggest. If you encounter problems please stop and tell me about it. When your computer is clean I will alert you of such. I will also provide you with detailed suggestions for prevention. In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine. After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.I would also like to inform you that most of us here at Bleeping Computer offer our expert assistance out of the goodness of our hearts. Please be courteous and appreciative for the assistance provided!Again I would like to remind you to make no further changes to your computer unless I direct you to do so. Any changes might delay my ability to help you.==========Click "start" on the taskbar and then click on the "Control Panel" icon. Please doubleclick the "Add or Remove Programs" iconA list of programs installed will be "populated" this may take a bit of time.If they exist, uninstall the following by clicking on the following entries and selecting "remove":ViewpointSpybot(Will interfere with our fix.)Additional instructions can be found here if needed.==========RKill by GrinlerLink #1Link #2Link #3Link #4Before we begin, you should disable your anti-malware softwares you have installed so they do not interfere RKill running as some anti-malware softwares detect RKill as malicious. So I don't know what I did, but now when I run a .msi file or a setup.exe file, the window I get is either way bigger than my screen or the text is, like, 2pt. Any suggestions?
pictures:
either HUGE

or really small...

A:Windows Installer Window is HUGE/text is super small

Run a full scan with Malwarebytes

Then run SFC -SCANNOW Command

Do you remember when this started? If so try to System Restore to a point before the problem began. The programs which were installed since then might be causing the problem.

I would also want a Clean Boot and to scan logs and utilize System Resources given in these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

My wife's system, inherited from her former job, is/was running extremely slow...slow to load, slow to download web pages. Additionally, an alert window "Windows Installer" is popping up everytime a new window opens (new IE window, etc). She had been using the system's programs at work, but doesn't need them any more: Dame Ware Mini Remote Control Server, OfficeScan, Hotsync, Gotomypc.

System Info: Dell Optiplex GX270, Pent. 4 CPU 2.8 GHz, 1GB/RAM, Windows XP (recently installed SP3)

Any and all assistance would be appreciated.

I use Sony Vaio.. the problem is that a Vaio Analysis manager / Windows Installer window keeps popping up and it suddenly exit without me even knowing what it is doing or installing.

A:Vaio Analysis manager / Windows Installer window keeps popping up

Hello zolboo and a warm welcome to the Forum
I found this on the Sony website. If you follow the instructions it should solve your problem

Quote:
This is the Vaio Personalisation Manager which keeps track of your favorite music, programs etc. As far as I can work out it is designed to make personalised recommendations of music or other things you may be interested in when using Vaio Media Gallery. Rather like Amazon's Personal Recommendations.
If you don't want this service then just disable it. Go to VAIO Analysis Manager and you will find an option something like ' Preference Learning' - just uncheck it and reboot.

Hello to the fine people at BC,
I have been having similar problems, that a lot of others have come to you with, concerning Vundo and a few of it's cronies. I have been able to follow your advice to the point where Malwarebytes identifies and deletes the four different problems mentioned in my topic title, but as soon as I open my web browser, my system slows down to a crawl, google searches get redirected, and I get the urge to go to the garage and get the sledge hammer. So I think it's time for someone to have a look at my HIJack log.

Just so you know, I'm running windows XP SP2. I have ran Vundofix, and I already have HIjack This, Combofix, and CCleaner. I'll wait for a reply before I post the hijack log, your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Zlob.Trojan, Rogue.VirusTrigger, Rogue.Errorsmart, Rogue.System Antivirus 2008

I think i got more malware on. I believe it started when my sister inserted her flash disk on my pc.

What do i do?

A:Zlob.Trojan, Rogue.VirusTrigger, Rogue.Errorsmart, Rogue.System Antivirus 2008

Hello please run an MBAM scan on this PC. DO NOT put that Flash drive into any other PC's it is infected. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes. For the Flash Drive...Please follow quietman7's instructions for Flash disinfector here in post #2.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...ash+disinfectorLet us know how it goes.

Thanks

A:Windows Installer Issue

Hi, When trying to install/repair/uninstall programs with Microsoft installer it manages to go to the "updating component registration" part of installation but then gives me an error saying "there was an error creating a temporary file that is needed to complete this installation." So far i have attempted to reset Microsoft installer, Clean booting the system didn't work either, I have made sure windows installer is set to automatic and started in services and i have tried deleting all the files in my temp folder and running the instaaller again but none of this has worked. I have Vista x Ultimate Issue The highest level problem I'm trying to resolve I'm trying to install AutoCAD and the install dialog box has the software grayed out on the nd step and the Next button is grayed out That looks kind of like the software is already installed but it isn't This is after uninstalling the demo version with the OS uninstall tools in the Control Panel The demo version has something going on that prevents a nd installation so that someone won't continuiously uninstall and reinstall and never buy it I manually scrubbed out all the directories as recommended by Autodesk and I still can't install I tried a quot safe mode quot install and Vista reports a problem with the installer Is that normal Should I attempt to reinstall the Windows installer I'm having trouble locating the best location and version to download that from the Microsoft website Is there a recommended registry cleaner I suspect that Autodesk Installer issue Windows has embedded some setting deep in the registry and that might be a way to scrub them out Their manual uninstall routine did not mention the registry Any Windows Installer issue other input is appreciated

Hello, I am having a problem that just started out of the blue this morning. When starting Internet Explorer, I keep getting and error message telling me that Windows Installer cannot be accessed. Now I cannot open Outlook, Word, iTunes etc. When I do try to open these programs, I get a message saying "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office Small Business 2007", but it doesnt seem to do anything. I've run a diagnostic (F12) and was alerted of the following error :Error Code 0142, Msg Error Code 2000-0142, Status 79. The system is extremely slow and I can only stay logged onto an IE page for a few minutes before it has to shut down. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell Studio. Any advice would be so helpful to me. Many thanks.

Hello All

Basically long story short, tried to install the new Pro Evo, it gets past the point of selecting language, and then errors saying there is a problem with windows installer. Same problem also occured installing some other software.

I managed to get AVG installed and cleared a load of malware i had, then tried to reinstall Windows Installer (by this point the service isnt even listed), which says it installs, but it takes like 3 seconds so cant be doing anything. Then tried system restore, still the same problem. Now after getting desperate i did a repair windows install, the service was back, but diabled, as soon as i tried to start it it errored saying some registry key was access denied, and the service is gone again. Tried re-registering msiexec aswell, again nothing.

Any ideas guys?

Hi

I have tried lots of recommended fixes to the windows installer issue i have when trying to download Itunes and also when using a cdrom to install greetings card factory with no success, you are my last hope before i send my 3 month old pc back to dell.

I'm running windows 7 home 64 bit and get the following message

The Windows installer service could not be accessed, this can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, of if the windows installer is not correctly installed, contact your support personnel for assistance.

Like I said I have tried lots of so called fixes with no luck, i've tried installing system mechanic (which installed ?) and it found hundreds of registry errors and fixed them but still no luck installing these programs ?

Please help or I will either return the pc to dell or throw it out of the window depending on my mood at the time !!

Thanks a million

Brou

A:Windows Installer issue???!!!

Try this:

Quote:
Windows Installer issues

The Windows Installer Engine could be corrupted, installed incorrectly, or disabled. This may cause installation issues.

Note The Windows Installer Engine manages the installation of software, manages the additions and deletions of software components, monitors file resiliency, and maintains basic failure recovery by using rollbacks.

Use these methods to identify any Microsoft Installer issues that may be causing problems when you install, uninstall, or update programs. Start with method 1, follow the steps in that method, and then go to the next method if your issue is not resolved.

Method 1: Determine whether the Windows Installer engine is functioning

Click Start
, type cmd in the Search box or click Run then type cmd in the dialog (Windows XP or Windows Server 2003), and then press Enter to open a Command Prompt window.
At the command prompt, type MSIExec, and then press Enter.
If the MSI engine is working, there should be no error messages. If you receive an error message, note the error. If you are proficient in how to use search engines, you can use the error message to help locate additional content to troubleshoot the issue.
Try to install or to uninstall again.

If the problem persists, go to method 2.
Method 2: Make sure that the Windows Installer service is not set to Disabled

Click Start
, type services.msc in the Search box or click Run then type services.msc in the dialog (Windows XP or Windows Server 2003), and then press Enter to open Services.
Right-click the Windows Installer service, and then click Properties.
If the Startup type box is set to Disabled, change it to Manual.
Click OK to close the Properties window.
Right-click the Windows Installer service, and then click Start. The service should start without errors.
Try to install or to uninstall again.

Hello Harry, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you mean while trying to merge a .reg file, then you could use the tutorial below to set .reg files to open with Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit) by default. Afterwards, see if you may be able to merge it.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

I am trying to install Pervasive SQL 10.10 (x64) on a machine at work and I am getting an error saying something like that "Please make sure the file xxx.cab is available and that you have sufficient permissions on the file". I do see that the file is there and I do have permissions. Actually a few days earlier I did install the exact same program.

What I noticed is that all .msi files that contain .cab files in the installation folder fail to install. I keeps throwing the same error.

What could be the problem?! I have Windows Installer v5.xxx and the OS is Windows 7 Pro X64.

Thanks for the help.

A:Windows Installer Issue?!

I would contact your IT personnel. We can not help you install anything on a work environment system.

Perhaps the program was uninstalled from the IT administrator from within the Server, and the IT personnel denied installing it again via curtain permissions in your user account.

It could be a registry entry trying to run a file that no longer exists. I'm not sure what the file is that you are being alerted to so I have added the possible names into the search below. If you have another filename then add it to the script below. Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.Download Mirror #1Download Mirror #2Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:

Hello,
When using MS Outlook or firing up IE, the "Windows Installer" window briefly pops up, sometimes flickering (as if multiple closings and openings are occuring), stating "Preparing to install ... ". Then the box goes away.

From what I can tell, nothing has installed.

In MS Outlook, this behavior always occurs when I am opening an email. In IE it only happens when I fire up Internet Explorer.

The only thing that has changed on my system prior to noticing this behavior is that I have installed the most recent versions of BlackBerry Desktop Manager and BlackBerry Device Mananger.

Thank You In Advance

A:Window Installer window briefly pops up

Hi Machine13705

It's possible that the blackberry installations tweaked a Registry setting, or didn't complete their installations elegantly.

I'd probably try the blackberry installation again as a first try. Then try running a Registry Cleaner such as CCleaner (in case loose ends are causing trouble --- http://www.download.com/CCleaner/300...ml?tag=lst-0-1 --- the "Issues" section of CCleaner is the one that helps clear up Registry oddballs).

If that doesn't help, for the Outlook behavior you can try Microsoft's suggested repair (in case it's the tweaked-Office Registry setting --- their quick-fix is a "Language version tool" that you can download and try, and they have two other possible repairs as well) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/265194

And, since you are running Windows XP -- you can always try the System Restore tool, using a restore point from just before you first installed the blackberry updates & the trouble started. You might have to reinstall the blackberry update again after this (but you might not! - it depends on where the settings are that were changed).

Last -- anytime you have unusual behavior from your system, it's a good idea to run some malware scans. Use the "thorough" or "High" settings.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

A:Start Up issue with Windows Installer

I think it is directly related to the HP software that got loaded to run the Deskjet F380 attached to that machine. Of course, I cannot find the original disc for the HP printer, but I am trying to track it down online or buy a new one.

So, given the above - feel free to remove this thread or lock it or whatever. I don't think there is anything to be done unless there is a way to stop the Windoze Installer from attempting to do this every start up?

Hi, I'm new here. Came across the forum while looking for a solution to my problem. Hope someone can help.

My girlfriend got an iPod nano for Christmas and it requires that you use iTunes 7.4 or higher. I had a previous version I was already using strictly as a player. While trying to uninstall my old version of iTunes I get an error that reads:

The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the installer is not correctly installed.

I don't have any problem uninstalling any other programs and I'm NOT running in safe mode. Also it was suggested to me to run msicuu2.exe and that didn't work either. I get the same message as above. If anyone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

BTW: I'm running windows xp sp2

When trying to install WordPerfect Office X5 on a Windows 7 SP1 64-bit computer, the installation hangs, rolls back and the following message appears:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed."

An event in the application event log shows that the faulty application is msiexec.exe v5. I've got admin rights, tried to install in Safe Mode, created a new profile so I've ruled out profile issues. I have tried every workaround I can think of along with other suggestions I have found online and haven't had any luck.

Any ideas?

Ok I'm stumped here,

This is happening to more then VMWare but VMWare is what I need to work correctly now.
I goto install (Setup.exe) it tells me windows installer is not installed or im running in safe mode.

I reinstalled Windows Installer 3.1 from microsofts website, and made sure the windows installer service is running (it is set to automatic now) and its started, rebooted, and I still get the same error message.

I just tried an another application and it gave me this same error.

Hi,

For the past week I have noticed that when I start Windows Live Messenger, the windows installer box comes up and says installing, then the messenger finally opens.

Now I notice that I can't uninstall or install any new programs, and when I do, windows installer says "The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed."

I'm not in safe mode. I've ran spyware scans and virus scans and nothing has came up.. So, I really have no idea what to do. I read to install something called windows installer cleanup, but I can't install any programs whatsoever..

Help is much appreciated:)

It's also service pack 2, not sure if that has anything to do with it, doubt it.. SP3 never would download.

I haven t been able to use msi files because my Windows Installer keeps generating the error about the package not being a valid Windows Installer package Steam and essential drivers and programs Well I decided after dealing with this for a year or so its time to stop I went Installer Issue Hardware Based Windows to install Windows Professional bit and trash Vista I keep getting the same error and I went as far as trying XP Darik s Boot and Nuke couldn t complete due to bad sectors on my hard drive Well I just installed a new hard drive and received a new copy of Windows Home Premium bit and I am still Windows Installer Hardware Based Issue receiving the same error I have registered unregistered re-installed and edited the reg files to the msiexec and msi dll and related files I just ran my memory through memtest and it just finished passes My new hard drive is Windows Installer Hardware Based Issue completely fine and all of the sectors are intact Where do I go from here The countless versions of Windows and Windows Installer versions makes me think this isn t a software error but this is definitely some sort of hardware problem I m going to switch out my memory for GB of old stuff and retry the install of Steam and some driver if that doesn t work then I m going to reformat and reinstall Windows with the GB of my old memory and see if that makes a difference I m really lost at this point and this everything in a nutshell If I had more time this would be a lot more detailed Now Re-Installing Windows with Older Memory nbsp

A:Windows Installer Hardware Based Issue

First, a bit more detail is needed including: Computer make and model

It's possible that your motherboard could have problems (corrupt BIOS, updated BIOS needed, failing motherboard)

It's also possible that you need the newest chipset drivers for your motherboard but without more detail it's not possible to narrow down the culprit(s)

During the Customer Preview (CP for short) I ran Windows 8 in a Virtual Machine on a Windows 7 system. When the preview was over I simply deleted the image of the Win8 system.

Now that I have Windows 8 Pro, I've joined my Homegroup and now the CP install I had been running on the homegroup as well shows up.

It looks like this:

HomeGroup
-User1 (removing user names)
-User2 (removing user names)
----> Serena (computer name)
----> Infinitas (computer name)
Infinitas was the name I gave the Windows 8 CP image.

How do I remove this 'rogue' computer. It doesn't show up in my Microsoft Account, I removed it as a trusted PC after deleting the image.

A:[Issue] Windows 8 "rogue" computer in Homegroup

The only way is to leave the Homegroup from all machines in the Homegroup, reboot them all after leaving, this will clear out the credential cache.

After that create a new Homegroup and rejoin from all machines.

A:Window Installer Pop-up

Hi and welcome,

Sorry for delay.

What is windows installer wanting to install? It should say something about what it is "configuring"..

If you still need assistance, please post a fresh hijackthis log here.

I'd like to see an uninstall list too please.
Open Hijackthis
click "config"
Click "misc tools"
Click "open uninstall manager"
Click "save list..."
Save the list & post it here.

Question....(s)
Since you installed McAfee have you uninstalled Trend Micro Office scan?
I see both running and this might be part of the issue especially if it was a partial uninstall.

Did you install WinPCap? (mabye along side network monitor tools such as Wireshark?)
O23 - Service: Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0 (experimental) (rpcapd) - CACE Technologies - C:\Program Files\WinPcap\rpcapd.exe

I see that being installed by both legit and malware. is why I ask.
Thanks

Did you do this?

Click Start, type services.msc... scroll down when the window opens.
Click on "Windows Installer" > Properties, then (in the drop down box) set it to either manual or automatic?

Also make sure that your Antivirus and Firewall are allowed to update your applications.

I am new here and hopefully someone can help me w/annoying problem.

Everytime I login to my acct(turn on the computer) the window installer pops-up and tries to install a program (photogallery) "I have no idea as to what or how this even got started" it starts out by trying to load the program then another pop-up states that I need to put in a disc "to which I do not have"
I have to click cancel but it will pop back up sometimes 3/4 times before finally stopping... then only thing is that this is happening everytime I turn on the comp..

Have a friends Compaq PC with Win Home/sp2 on a dialup connection. She had a bad DL with Norton and messed up the internet connection. I cleaned up mess with Norton uninstaller and reinstalled modem but everytime we try to get on internet a window pops up - windows installer. We can get on with Netscape - but the window still pops up - we can access the web. I disablelled all IE add ons but it did not help. I tried to acess event viewer but all I got was "the interface is unknown". I am use to win pro and not sure if Home has that service.

A:Window Installer

Hi

XP Home has that particular service.

Go to Start>Run>type: services.msc and hit Enter. See if you find the Event Log there and double-click it. Choose Automatic for "Startup type:" and start it from below that.

What does this Windows Installer prompt try installing?
Which program was installed before that you removed?

Hey All

I know its an old school game and all, but i loved it for N64 and now I want to relive the magic.

So I downloaded it and installed it, set compatability to windows XP SP2 and it works fine. All the menus work and all that but then when i start the first mission, the camera moves slower then the ship. In fact the camera moves at the "brakes on" ships speed.

Any help for i guy wanting some nostalgia?

When in the waypoint planning phase, the 2d map is suddenly missing some of the details, such as windows(purple), doors(green/red), and the walls look different as well. Hi
I am using Windows 7 and IE8 in my application. I am opening a new pop window using window.open(). After submit, my request will reload the same opup. While reloading the page is hiding behind the parent window. I have tried using window.focus() to bring the popup front, its not working. This problem occurs only if i use Win 7 and IE8.
Is this issue specif to Win 7? Is there any soln for this issue?

A:Windows 7 JavaScript issue window.focus()

I have the same issue - window.focus() does not work for me in IE8 in Windows7, but works fine in XP with the same exact version of IE8. Also works fine in mozilla & sarafi - have you had any update on this, or anyone else have updates?

Hi guys,

I am currently running window Xp home (x86), and i have a problem with my window installer. Whenever i try to install or uninstall something the following message pops up
"
The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running Windows in safe
mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly
installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance. "

i tried re-registering it, window installer cleanup utility is no longer avaliable so i can't use it, and even if it was still avaliable i can't install anything...

Please help me!

Oh! and there's one more problem. For some reasons ever since i got the window installer error, my computer became super slow. Especially at start up, it would stay a blank screen for 4-5 minutes until my icons and the task bar pops up. And even after its done loading, the taskbar freezes

A:Window Installer problem

Have you checked the Windows Installer service?

Click Start > Run > type services.msc

Scroll down the list to the Windows Installer service.

Double-click the service.

Make sure the Startup Type is set to Manual.
And,
Please click HERE to run HijackThis.

Select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

IMPORTANT: Do not fix anything

Where are these links located? Are they shortcuts on the desktop or on the program menu?
Right-click any of the actual links/Properties and paste the "Target" or "URL" contents here.
You may find these programs in C:|Program Files, where you can create new shortcuts.

Recently and just out of the blue, my Excel program stopped working. When I click on any Excel file, immediately flashes a "Preparing to Install" message then quickly that is followed by an error message with the file location, name and "The Windows Installer Service could not be acessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in a safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
All other Microsoft Office apps work fine. Like I stated this just started out of nowhere. I use Excel a lot.
I have Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Pentium 4.
Sorry if too wordy.

Hi guys, my problem is what I thought was fairly straight forward. I recently bought an Officejet 6500. I loaded the disc to install drivers and the window is in Portuguese! I checked my regional language settings and it is in English. I even tried other discs to see whether that was the problem, it wasn't. This is the second disc I have received from HP and am unable to use the equipment due to this. I am running XP. Please help.
