I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi mirjam,

Might be worth doing a scan with the free

Also run the SFC tool and see if that can fix any file system errors.

A:!! 0XC0190036!! Issues with SP1--- Need Help !!

Did you get it when it was offered through Windows Update, or did you download manually from M/S site.?

If offered through update then your PC has been passed as compatible, a manual download does not check your system so its not forced to work correctly.

A couple of days ago I accepted a Windows Vista upgrade on my Satellite U300 laptop and since then my computer cannot operate. It tried to self-diagnose itself, it tells me to shut down the computer and restart. I do this and then the !! 0xc0190036 !! 4099/69249 (Security-Licensing-SLC-Component-SKU-Home...) appears with a black background. I tried to run the Product Recovery disk but the computer would not run it.

Can anyone offer me any useful tips?

Hi This is my first post here I have been trying to use the helpful advice shared by members to fix my problem but have been unsuccessful So I thought I should be specific and see if anyone here has an idea I haven't tried Thanks in advance First off I use Vista for a laptop computer and I do not have any restore discs which is my own fault for never burning one I had been having some issues installing the security update for Explorer KB Each time I attempted to install it during Error !!0xc0190036!! Update the restart it would read quot configuring updates of quot and have a percentage reader but each time I would get an error message saying that it wasn't able to configure properly and then would go to a black screen with white numbers at the top left that would countdown and the system would then load I tried to fix this through various small troubleshooting options that I saw online but none worked So I saw a suggestion to disable firewall I use Norton while doing the install I disabled it Then in the Windows Update Center I selected the automatic updates and instead of showing the Explorer security update it showed a Update Error !!0xc0190036!! service pack I believe it was two I didn't write it down I selected to update it and everything went smoothly at first Then when restarting it went to the same black screen with white letters Now the computer won't start normally at all The white letters get to a countdown which reads quot xc security-Licensing-SLC-Component-SKU-Home quot I have attempted starting in safe mode quot Startup Repair quot This takes me to a scan to diagnose and repair the problem I have run the scan three times and each time it has been unsuccessful in repairing the issue I really don't know what to do to fix this Any suggestions will be most appreciated Thanks again Corinna

I have a computer that had Trojans, Worms, etc. I tried all sorts of Spyware and AV programs to determine IF the computer was clean. Each Pgm seemed to find different problems, but cleaned them (I hope).

Now, I have a problem with AcGenral.DLL messages - not correct image etc.
This occurs on booting to Win XP SP2 Pro. But it boots. It shows up when I try to access "Add/Delete Programs" in Control Panel - denying access to the tool.
Recently, I have seen CABINET.DLL messages too (incorrect image).

I have checked both DLLs and they are correct.
I have scanned the Net and cannot find help, so I resort to you - an expert.

Can you help? Shall I dump a HiJackThis File?

I totally screwed up my friend's 0xc0190036 rep.dll fault !! SP2 Install Error - 1343/87277 !! bit Vista Home Premium tower We were over there socially and she mentioned SP2 Install Error - !! 0xc0190036 !! 1343/87277 fault rep.dll that she was having some computer problems They were minor issues and after I was finished I very stupidly mentioned that she likes internet explorer she should really update her browser to IE Next thing I knew I'm up to my elbows in problems She only had SP and IE wouldn't install unless she had SP so I download and installed it After it completed the computer rebooted itself and we saw it go through the 'installing updates' screen with it finally hitting After that a series of little one line items displayed on the now black screen It looked pretty normal and I told my friend it'd be done soon Finally it hit the item SP2 Install Error - !! 0xc0190036 !! 1343/87277 fault rep.dll displayed in the title of this thread - xc faultrep dll And it just stayed there As minute after embarrassing minute went by I could feel her glaring at me behind my back After minutes I mercifully held in the power button and told her it would certainly boot normally I knew I was lying through my teeth It looked okay at first but then began the series of one line displays stopping again at the title item I had to take her tower home but assumed that a quick 'Repair your computer' would do the trick It never went beyond the splash screen Then to my amazement I discovered that with all the computers we have in our house I do not have a single disk of bit Vista Every bit Vista CD gave me an 'incompatibility' error when I would attempt repairs Ditto for my Spotmau Bootsuite disk I'm going through the steps in this link Vista ISO - Download and Create Installation DVD or USB but I've got a bad feeling about it I've already been downloading the install wim component for hours and my laptop says that I've still got hours and minutes to go Or so it says - when I started downloading that item it said it would take hours and minutes Does not leave me with a good feeling She desperately needs this computer and the software on it to connect to her job It won't boot in safe mode or last good config At this point I'd be thrilled if I could just somehow get to a system restore screen every time I look at the downloads page the time remaining for install wim has risen - it's now up to for this GB file No now it's This sucker will never finish Update Well the sucker DID finish and I was able to follow the slightly convoluted instructions and actually got a Vista bit SP iso image installed on a GB flash drive And when I used it to boot I got no compatibility errors That's the good news The bad is that it initiated a startup repair which has now been running for just under hours And of course it can't be canceled And of course I can't get to the command prompt or system restore options until this completes Do you think Bill Gates' favorite book is Catch Another Update It's now been chugging away on the Startup Repair screen for days It's tough to know what will happen first Somebody will actually respond to the topic and give a helpful suggestion The Repair screen will finally end and I'll be presented with the Advanced Repair options My former friend will sue me for the price of a new computer I'm leaning toward door number

A:SP2 Install Error - !! 0xc0190036 !! 1343/87277 fault rep.dll

It seems to me that the key issue for her would to recover her personal files. Is that the case?

If she has the key for Vista, you might connect a second hard drive and disconnect the first one. Then install Vista on the new hard drive. Shut down and then connect the second hard drive. Boot. It should recognize the old drive but boot to the new one (if it doesn't, hit escape during the POST and select the new drive). After that, you would be able to access the old drive and retrieve her files.

I don't know if this helps.

Try disconnecting your PC from the internet>close Windows Update>reopen windows update and see if an install (not download) button is showing and click it. Then reboot and start downloading the next batch. Sometimes Windows needs to install what it has before it can download and install the rest. You might have to do this a couple of times. Windows also (like recently) has to update Windows Update before it can further download.

Everytime i am downloading a file, if i play an audio file it will sound like the sounds keeps getting stuck and making a weird electric buzz then continues and repeats... how can I fix this? what extra info do you need?

A:audio sounds like it keeps getting stuck when downloading

free up some resources, (stop unnec. services, not needed startup programs, not too many apps running at once), add more ram, faster internet connection
sounds like your pc is using a lot of processes at one time and causing the pc to do too many things at one time for what it can handle

Hi Everyone....

I have been struggling thru this Win 7 update hassle on my two Dell PCs both running Win 7 , 64 bit, SP1, Windows firewall, and Avast Free. In the past, updates just took a while, but eventually, they went thru OK.

Suddenly, after this week's updates, one of my PCs got stuck at 0% downloading 5 selected updates since Tuesday. The other PC updated properly with no problem.

I have left the system on for hours on end, but it is still 0%.

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

My Windows 10 version 1511 is set to download and install updates automatically but this morning, the updates download got stuck at 0% for a long time. Even after a reboot, it would not budge.
Do you guys have the same problem here?

Maybe during the downloading of the updates, I had turned off my notebook, so would that have a negative effect on the way the updates are downloaded or in process of downloading?
So for example, next time if there is a Windows Update and the downloads are in progress, is it OK to turn off my machine while Windows 10 is downloading the patches or security updates?

The only way I could recover from this mess, is that I read these steps from the below link.
? ??? -updates

But overall in general, the way Win10 handles these updates is a PURE MESS, and I hope in Redstone, this will be fixed.
I never had these issues in Win7...

A:Win10 Updates stuck downloading

I had a hard time updating my 10586 (1511) Version so I let it update and download over night. DON'T !! it also downloaded the "Feature update", meaning the anniversary update and tried to install that. I interrupted the update so Windows will be forced to go back to the 1511 Version.
Whenever a new cumulative update is available, I made it a habit to download it from the catalog:
Microsoft Update Catalog

that way I do not rely on the Windows update and can do that even disconnected from the web.. Has always worked for me...

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit on my HP Pavilion a1750y.  Lately, a recurring error has been popping up with every app I open stating:[appname] -Bad Image     (X)  C:\Windows\AppPatch\AcGenral.DLL is either not designed to run on            Windows or it contains an error.  Try installing the program again using            the original installation media or contact your system adminastrator or            the software vendor for support.Considering I am my own Admin, I am at a loss for what to do.And I also don't know what program installed it.Please help.

A:AcGenral.dll issues-error occurs when opening an .exe

Read my previous message again.
When you first open the administrator command prompt, it should show:
The first command you would type is:
CD Users\xxxxxx\Desktop
You would substitute your username in place of the 'xxxxxx'.
These commands are assuming that 'C' is the drive where Vista is installed.

This issue started this past Saturday Dec Per Windows Update Posting instructions Downloaded SURT When first tried to download SURT on Saturday it would not download But when tried again yesterday Sun Dec - it was successful However although it said the installation and 0% Windows at 7 Downloading stuck Updates-Checking of was successful and it showed up in Update History it did NOT show up in Installed Updates I tried it twice SFC Scan I read about doing this on other websites as well The first time I ran it it came back with the message that it fixed errors The nd time I ran it the results were no violations and when I ran Windows 7 Updates-Checking and Downloading stuck at 0% it a rd time which the attached CBS log is from it also had no errors Windows Update Error Codes The biggest problem is the check Windows 7 Updates-Checking and Downloading stuck at 0% updates Windows 7 Updates-Checking and Downloading stuck at 0% or the downloading updates just don't go anywhere I did get an error message when I tried to download SURT as mentioned above but I was able to get it downloaded yesterday The other error code I got was when I did a System Restore Point It came back with the xc code and said it didn't restore the system But it must have because the Update information was different and reflected the date of the restore points Plus any changes I had done were gone and reflected the date of the restore points And the other error code was from the Diagnostic Tool from the help feature in Windows I think it was the error that it said it couldn't fix It did list some other issues that it said it fixed but I did not write it down or get a screenshot I could run that tool again if needed to verify Log Collection I was not able to attach the CBS log - I tried times and each time received a server error And then realized it's because of file size Even my zip file is just too big Please advise on how to get the information Start New Thread Hopefully I did that correctly I spent quite a bit of time trying various other things - such as the restore points clean disk and I also did a Checkdisk from the cmd prompt I did foray into a slight addition to the registry from a suggestion from another website but ended up deleting it because I didn't think it fixed anything at all and I don't like messing with the registry I did a system restore point after that I also did the SoftwareDistribution folder thing that is mentioned on many websites but that didn't help either I did try the start and stop services from cmd prompt as well with no change either Currently my workaround is copying the updates from the Update Catalog and installing them one by one manually Obviously that is quite time consuming and as I did get months behind will take awhile to get through them all Plus I am concerned about the order I am doing the oldest first and also worried about making a mistake and or missing some So far I've managed to get installed and have verified they are showing up in Installed Updates I also ran the Fixit and the other diagnostic tool recommended on the MS websites The Fixit tool didn't seem to do anything at all and the other tool returned the error code mentioned above I also called my AV company AVG Internet Security and had them do a disable AV with me over the phone and attempted to download updates There wasn't any change I also disabled the AV again yesterday and there was no difference I have done full computer scans for viruses with no issues reported I greatly appreciate any and all assistance to get this resolved and thank you in advance for your time Regards Hank

Hey guys,

So basically, I ran windows update on my PC (I recently made a fresh install), it started downloading very slowly ; until it reached 25% where it's been at for 30 minutes. I tried stopping the download and selecting another update, to see if it was just one update that wouldn't download, but I had the same result :

Windows update was just stuck downloading.

EDIT: screen of the updates in question :
I tried to stop the firewall in ESET Smart Security; nothing. I tried the Fixit tools (.exe and .cab versions), nothing. (except that the .cab version is just stuck too).

Has that happened to any of you guys before?

I had problems yesterday with windows update (BSOD while installing updates), and it just wrecked my computer, and I had to restore to factory settings. But that can't be related?

A:Windows Update service stuck in downloading

Update : I tried to reboot, and got stuck on "windows is preparing your computer blablabla". So I hard rebooted, logged in, and now the windows update service doesn't show up any longer, I can't run anything because the UAC prompt is gone (I can't do anything that requires admin privileges)...

I am currently restoring my computer using the windows restore option... And it's stuck on "restoring your files".

So if it doesn't work out, I'll have to factory reset my computer for the third time in two days.

This has never happened before but I can't download the latest batch of updates! I've tried downloading one at a time but it makes no difference, just stuck on downloading 0%. I've tried to go into services.msc to switch off windows updates but it says 'stopping' with the options to stop/re-start greyed out.

I've tried the windows trouble shooter which detects problems and then says resolving but again after 20 minutes or so it still says the same thing. Does it take a long time (perhaps I'm being impatient)?

I've run out of time tonight but will try the windows update system readiness tool tomorrow.

In the meantime, does anyone have ideas I could try? As I say, I've never had problems downloading updates before.

Hi John,
The simple answer is MS doesn't want users on W7 any more.
We just have to put up with this situation.
However they say, IF you you want to believe them, that they are in the process of addressing the slow D/L and install of updates for us.

we just have to live with it

note the comp you have with 2Gb ram will allways suffer, thats the min for W7.

Must admit having looked at an awfull lot of windows update logs cant remember seeing those entries

During a busy period, aware that Windows 10 can install itself by a sneaky update and being too busy to check each update that comes my way, I had disabled Windows Update. Only now did I remember to check for updates. I know, dumb.
There are 80 important updates that need to be installed. They all seem okay.

However, they've been downloading for over 90 minutes now, and the progress bar is still stuck at 0%. "Downloading 80 Updates (0 KB Total, 0% Complete)".

I thought these updates might solve my "slow PC issue" (referred to in my other thread), but the inability to download updates, makes me think there might be something seriously wrong with my computer.

Can it still be just a visual issue if nothing has happened after waiting for 90 minutes?
Thanks in advance,
This has been posted twice (?) I don't know how that has happened. Sorry. If you can tell me how to delete it, I will.

You can Shut Down your computer and install updates.
Or you can download the Windows 7 Update Convenience rollup. Microsoft Update Catalog
As for your Slow computer, you did not paste a link to your other post, and your post history does not show anything about a slow computer.

Yesterday when I started downloading windows update, only one update could be downloaded i. KB3114431. After that may be there was some sort of problem on the network and I could not download the other updates as my network was down at that time. so I disconnected from network and cancelled the downloads and shut down the computer. It normally installed the downloaded update. after that from today morning I am unable to download any updates. The network is fine, as I can browse the internet normally. But windows update screen keeps stuck at 0%. Though now the shut down button shows the alert icon for update installation as you can see in screenshot. Is there any way to fix it? Thank you.

A:Vista Gets Stuck, and Stuck on windows 7 install

I'd suggest starting with running a memory test ( ); then following that with a bootable hard drive diagnostic:

Here's a description from my blog:

What you'll need:
- a blank CD
- a computer with an internet connection where you can download a file, install a small program, and burn a CD (doesn't have to be the computer that you'll be testing).

1. Determine the make and model of your hard drive

- In Windows XP - Go to Start...Run...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Click on the + sign next to Disk Drives and use Google to search the information listed there)

- In Windows VISTA - Go to Start...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Click on the + sign next to Disk Drives and use Google to search the information listed there

- From outside of Windows: Unplug the system from the wall, remove the battery (if it's a laptop) and crack the case open. Look inside to locate the hard drive and write down the make and model number (although the model number isn't required for the test, it will help you to identify what sort of drive to replace if the test says that the drive is bad).

If you're unable to see the hard drive info, follow the steps below for the Hitachi DFT. At the screen where it asks you if the list is correct, the model number of your drive will be there. Use Google to search for the model and that will let you know the manufacturer.

NOTE: It's strongly recommended that you use the test from the manufacturer of your hard drive. Most manufacturers build in tests that are only for their drives (in addition to the standard S.M.A.R.T. tests) - so using their test will give more accurate results.

2. Locate the support website of the hard drive manufacturer from the following list and download the appropriate file to your computer. FWIW - the first link for each drive usually contains more information/instructions about running the test.

Hitachi - Download this image for CD's:

Western Digital - Download the Diag504fCD.iso file on this page:

Seagate - Download the Seatools for DOS ISO CD-ROM Image from this link: (English version here: )

Maxtor - Seagate SeaTools has replaced the Maxtor diagnostics. Use the Seagate SeaTools links above.

Toshiba - I'm unable to locate any tools for Toshiba. I'd suggest the Hitachi DFT (Drive Fitness Test) from above.

Fujitsu - Download the DOS Diagnostic Tool Ver. 7.0 (For IDE/ATA/SATA Hard Drives from this link: You'll have to copy the file to a DOS boot CD and manually execute the FJDT.exe file once you've booted to DOS. If this is too difficult, use the Hitachi DFT (Drive Fitness Test) from above.

Samsung - Download the Hutil 210 ISO (for CD-ROM drive).zip from here: You must unzip the file before you can burn (NOT copy) the ISO image to a CD.

IBM - IBM has merged with Hitachi. Use the Hitachi DFT (Drive Fitness Test) listed above.

3. If you do not have a disk burning program that's capable of burning ISO images to your CD drive, I suggest this free tool: Select the ... Read more

Hi Guys We have a single outbox- conventional either Outlook stuck 'stuck' Not user here that has problems with stuck outbox messages in outlook Off of only one of his email accounts in his profile Off of only his computer Outlook stuck outbox- Not conventional 'stuck' either There are definitely some patterns of characteristics from the emails though which I would imagine have something to do with the problem They are They almost always include attachments they've always got multiple recipients Outlook stuck outbox- Not conventional 'stuck' either and CC's and they're almost always replies in threads of emails being sent back and forth Clearing out and recreating his profile doesn't help doing the standard quot take off some of the 'RE 's in the subject line quot throw it in drafts and then re-send it copy-and-paste it into a new message altogether some of these randomly help solve problems at total random but of the time they don't work My only workaround that works completely is using a virtual box or logging in through another PC setting up his profile and forwarding the stuck message from the outbox on the alternate computer Now obviously that means it's not our email host and it's not some strange format or character that's universally just not able to send what happens with these messages is that they aren't even looked at they don't even begin to send sometimes attachments would explain a delay as it would take time to send out a big file they're just ignored permanently on his computer I obviously see a solution would be to switch out his desktop but that's kind of like saying quot my hard drive's being slow let's just reformat quot before you even try cleaning it up a little I'm assuming it's down to an application problem within Outlook or something obviously software-based It's so intermittent though and it works normally so often that it doesn't seem like an Outlook re-install would do much good anyway because nothing is permanently broken it does work sometimes Does anyone have any idea what the root of these stuck email problems are Is there anything I can do Thank you

I have a bit of experience with Outlook and Exchange, so I have a few questions for you--
Are you running in a Microsoft Exchange environment, and if so, which version?
What antivirus are you running on the affected PC?
Do you have any special spam filtering or virus scanning on the mail server that is specifically for email?

I've seen where certain antivirus products can cause these "stuck" outbox issues. I assume you've tried the basic F9 (send/receive) to try and force the message through as well?

By far the simplest fix is to use System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when everything when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos. In almost all cases, it's just a matter of the settings not being correct, maybe the SMTP port number is incorrect or authentication needs to be turned on.

Also, if you had messages already waiting in the Outbox before changing any settings, you should delete those and try sending a new message.

Here's the AT&T settings:

You are encouraged to update your patch level to SP2 by visiting

Once SP2 is installed, you can then apply the latest hotfixes to bring your system current.

Remember to perform all updates from your admin login and to access the URL

Better to order the SP2 disc from Microsoft. It is free, except for shipping. This enables you to avoid corrupted files.

Cause I've read issues with XP and AIM+.
That everytime you try to create a new user account in XP, you have trouble opening AIM+ when logged into the new account.

Your problem is easily solved in three steps.

Go to and download Firefox 1.0. Firefox is a web browser, an alternative to MSIE.

Install Firefox 1.0.

Kick back and enjoy using Firefox 1.0. Life is good with software that actually works!

If you are hesitant, Google the word "Firefox". Then decide.

BTW, have been using Firefox for many months. It is a good browser.

Hi All!

I've got a problem. I've searched to see if I could find any answers, but nothing has helped.

Quite simply, my problem is that when I download something I cannot access the internet until the download is finished.

This happens some of the time but not always.

As an example-- in this case I'm uploading-- but it happens also when downloading, I upload a video to You Tube. My connection to the internet is lost until I finish the upload.

This happens also when downloading a torrent. When it's going to happen is hard to determine. Sometimes it happens and other times it doesn't. I haven't found a pattern.

Cable connection, using a router.

Any ideas? This kind of thing never happened with XP.

What ISP? Cable or DSL? What modem? UP and DOWN speeds?

This happens also when downloading a torrent. When it's going to happen is hard to determine. Sometimes it happens and other times it doesn't. I haven't found a pattern.

Normally when the problem is only when downloading torrents, the machine may be allowing too many simultaneous connections, what may saturate the router/modem.

Whenever I download something from I can't use Go!Zilla because of some thing that set up...instead I have to use IE to download and theres no such thing as resuming. Is there anyway, once IE has started downloading that i can get the EXACT address of the file that I'm downloading? With the exact addy I could just copy and paste into GoZilla and download that way. All I want is to know the exact addy of where I'm downloading from.

A:Downloading with IE

Just start Gozilla when your on that site and Choose File List, Leech, and it should list all the files in that site that you can download. Then, all you need to know is the name of the file you want to download.
