I currently have a pc that was windows 2000 that is now not working. I recently put a new hard drive into the pc and it currently store all my music (itunes) and document flies. I would like to if it is possible to take the hard drive out and connect it to my other computer externally. The only other issue is the other computer is running on vista. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yes, you can take that hard drive out of the 2k machine and read it just fine in Vista. What you can't do is take your OS drive from 2k and boot another machine with it, but I don't think that is what you were asking.

I have gaming laptop from Msi that lasted less than a year. I believe that my hard drive is badly made due to the laptops being mas produced. I also have two other built in hard drives that are not being used,I'm wondering how I can deactivate the faulty hard drive and run win 7 on one of the other hard drives. please help me!

A:How can I change which internal hard drive runs windows 7?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums.

I'm not sure I understand. These two internal hard disks are in another computer? What operating system is running on this other computer?

Be aware that you can't transfer the MSI Windows installation to another computer for two reasons:

1. It probably won't run.
2. Microsoft does not allow transfer of OEM licenses between computers.

Also, please fill out your system specs completely, so that we can help you better.

Hey people,

So here's my issue, recently took out my laptop HDD and formatted it, NTFS format, and stored stuff on it. Now when I place that in an enclosure and want to use it as an external HDD drive, it doesnt pick up the device.

Through Diskpart I am able to give the drive a letter and access it, but when I "Safely" remove device, the Drive letters remain....

1St problem, Do I need to do anything special to make the Device a Plug and Play ?
2nd Question, am currently consulting google on the matter, HOW do I remove the Drive Letters that I assigned through Diskpart from "My Computer"

A:Make Internal HDD to External

Diskpart isn't the easiest way to do so, and I hope that didn't do anything to the drive. The easiest is to assign the drive a letter in Disk Management. But, to back up a bit, is it recognized in Disk Management, first.

I have a failing seagate 3TB HDD (am getting cycle redundancy errors) I would like to put in the PC as an internal WITHOUT losing any files. How would I go about that, as when I have done it before it has asked me to format drive.

Ending up fixing it, it got to 73% on chkdsk with a errors and stopped but I then did a /f and it fixed the problem.

That drive does not sound good. I would not trust it.

I have been wanting to get an external hard drive to back up data for both my desktop and my wife's laptop, but they're just so doggone expensive. A friend told me that I can buy an internal hard drive with some sort of a case, get a PCI card with an external SATA hookup, and I'm good. I figure this would be cheaper (and a smaller profile to boot). I've already got Acronis True Image so I don't need any backup software. What do I need to look for when I'm shopping for stuff? I'm looking for at least 300 GB

A:Can I make an INTERNAL hard drive EXTERNAL?

Yeah just buy an external HD enclosure and bingo instant portable HD. Most of them use PATA IDE HDs and USB to connect to a PC.

A:Make your laptop internal & external speakers play together

Props to OP - I've found a somewhat related hassle-free solution for desktops with Realtek Audio.

In the settings, you can 'disable front jack detection'. Therefore, speakers connected to the rear panel won't stop when you plug something else in the front.

Hi,
I apologize if this is not the right section, this seemed to be the most suitable.

Windows Metro idea is not so bad it s just need improvements If Microsoft makes the Start Page floating it will be a totally different experience By floating I means something detachable something you can resize move on another monitor or even in a tablet keyboard What I mean by can more make productive and enjoyable change Microsoft What W8 to a tablet keyboard What Microsoft can change to make W8 more productive and enjoyable it s a tablet with a touchscreen but without processor it will be only link to the computer as an input device so you can use it in your family room as remote for your HTPC or at the side of your keyboard or simply replace your keyboard For a power user with multi monitors it will change everything the users will be able to move the start pages where he wants But the metro apps also as to me capable of runing in a Windows too the side by side is not sufficient for a PC So finally the question is not is Windows is better and worse than Windows

A:What Microsoft can change to make W8 more productive and enjoyable

IMO, they should reinstate the old desktop functions (start menu/button) but keep Metro as optional interactive screensaver.

That way they can keep both without having the schitzophrenic OS behaviour that we have now.

I've got a document about 41 pages, broke into multiple sections. Track changes have been on, I've been able to edit the file for a while up until an hour. Now, when i make any changes this document just closes, this has been tried and same phenomenon occurs on 3 other computers, so it must be something with the file? Any idea would be appreciated.

Some interesting characteristics:
when change is made word shuts down.
but when you use auto recover and word opens back up, the change that caused word to close is actually made.

A:Microsoft Word 2003 closes in error when I make a change with track changes

do you have the remove hidden data feature installed and turned on?
Otherwise, I would suspect a corrupt Normal.dot file - close Word, find and rename or delete it (Word will rebuild it when you open it again).

Has anyone ever had the problem when opening a Microsoft Office word 2007 file on the desktop or elsewhere and then receive the message: "Windows cannot find C: (doc)Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." Seems to be a compatibility issue with Vista and Microsoft office 2007. I have tried several ways and searched the web and found a few techniques. I have minimized the problem, but it still persists. Odd, because I just double-click on the file which is right in front of my nose. How can it not find the file?I need a solid solution. Thanks for your help!

i'm about to purchase a new hard drive for my computer and i'm trying to decide if i should get a large internal HD (500gb) or if i should get a smaler capacity harddrive 250gb with an external drive. I use my computer mostly for music/video and was thinking of using the external drive to store those exclusively and use the internal drive for the OS, hence the wanting a smaller capacity drive as i can't find a use for a 500gb HD just for an os/ a few programs. I'm not a big gammer at all, but i do enjoy playing simulation games like The Sims 2and Startopia, which don't take up much space either. Currently i have 2x80GB drives, one with vista and my music and the other with videos. Guidance much appreciated.

Hello,
I recently purchased a Studio 1558 laptop. The specs are below:
Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 CPU   Q 720 @ 1.60 GHZRAM: 6 GBSystem type: 64-bit operating systemATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470Sound - ATI High Definition Audio Device, IDT High Definition Audio CODECI have plugged in older Dell speakers that I used with my desktop. The sound works fine until I load a webpage, or load a folder etc and then sound will temporarily switch from my external speakers to my internal laptop speakers. This is quite annoying as it happens frequently and sometimes I blare my externals which can't be good if it keeps switching to my internals.
Can anyone recommend a fix? It would be greatly appreciated.

My room mate and I want to play a game which uses the old style save system where there's only one "story" and no options for switching characters/profiles/etc. We want to be able to play at different points in the game and with different settings; to this end I'm writing a program that will quickly interchange the relevant save and settings files when the correct profile is loaded. However, I'm afraid that one of us will forget to run this program and end up overwriting the others' stuff.

Is there a way to make this program run when we click on the shortcut for the game, and have the game run after my program has closed?

Thanks!

A:Can I make a shortcut that runs two programs?

You can make a batch file for doing that. For example, the following batch script runs Windows Notepad waits for it to be closed and after that runs Windows Calculator :start /wait notepad.exe
start calc.exeType the code inside Notepad window, save the file with .bat or .cmd extension, like runme.cmd on your desktop.

hptskmgr.exe (HP Task Management Component) runs every 15 minutes and dies 21 seconds later. This wouldn't bother me except that when it runs, just before it closes, I get an icon on the task bar with no title in it for about a second and then it disappears. It's very distracting. Anyone know why this is happening, and if there is a way to disable it? Thanks!

I work in an architecture office using Quickbooks to track hours expenses billing etc The company QB files reside on the server in a shared directory that is mapped as drive Z on all machines through a domain logon script that runs when each person logs on to their machines program is sure closed runs to Need make before all on backup machine The company file runs in multi-user mode so that everyone can access the file and enter their hours at the same time The problem is that if anyone happens to leave Quickbooks open at night the server backup process running BackupExec will skip the files that are Need to make sure program is closed on all machines before backup runs in use usually either or files This is potentially bad news because if anything happened to the server the following day after those files were skipped we would not have the file from the night before to restore which could potentially mean lots of information lost sometimes lots of info is entered in one day especially on quot billing quot days Sometimes people will leave in the afternoon for a meeting thinking they'll be back later and leave their programs open But then the meeting ends up running long and they don't come back until the next day That's usually why Quickbooks ends up getting left open on a machine overnight What I'm wondering is if there's a way to make the program automatically close if it's open on any machine perhaps just before the backup process starts on Need to make sure program is closed on all machines before backup runs the server Or make the program close if the computer has been idle a certain amount of time Is there any way to make this happen All machines in our office that have Quickbooks on it run Windows except for one machine that still runs XP

A:Need to make sure program is closed on all machines before backup runs

Find the process name of Quickbooks, then kill it from the command-line on end users' machines via psexec, task scheduler, or something of the like:

I have an idea...
You could try that out.

Start > Run > Msconfig

1- Check in general to have a normal Boot.
2- Go in the TAB Boot, go Advanced. All that should be checked is the Number of Processor ( Use the more you can for a faster boot ) and the Debug Report thing.
3- In the TAB Boot, nothing should be checked only the Make boot setting permanent.
4- Go at Services TAB and Uncheck CHKDSK if it is there
5- Go to Startup TAB and Uncheck if CHDSK is there

Thats all my IDEA.. See if it works, and tell us if it worked.

This is on an HP netbook with Win7. If I want to type, e.g. Rene's cat
then typing the apostrophe does NOT work; nothing shows for the apostrophe until I type the "s" following it.
If I type ONE apostrophe and wait "some seconds (10 maybe?) and THEN type the apostrophe AGAIN, both of them appear.

Do you think there is a setting or pref someplace that should be changed?

I think the same thing happens with her quotation (") marks.

A:have to type a character 2x to make it appear

Welcome

Unique problem, but I will give it a shot.

Control Panel>keyboard
Adjust the repeat and/or delay settings. Experiment, it may help.

My repeat factory setting (which I still have) is set for the fastest.
Delay is about 3/4 way to the right.

My D: drive is only used for backups (mostly) and I want to have it spin down when it has been idle for a while. If I use Power Options that would sort of work as the system disk isn't idle for long, except when the PC is unattended. But that causes one of my external drives to vanish, so it's not a good option.
Back to focus: make D: spin down after 20 minutes idle, leave other disk power settings unchanged. I think there is a registry tweak but I can't find the article about it.
The PC is on 8.1 update 1.

Did you look in Control Panel, Power Options? I haven't checked but there may be a power setting for each HDD versus all HDDs.

For some reason windows 8 always makes my comp fan go crazy, is thus normal ?

A:Does windows 8 make anyone else's internal laptops fans go

What do you mean by crazy? I can hear mine speed up in response to higher CPU loads, it will become audible and go silent again within 30-60 seconds or so, or stay running longer if something intensive is running long term. IE, it responds quickly to changing system load. To me this seems normal.

Today I installed windows 7 on my laptop. After installation of drivers and updates, I found the wireless adapter was not
enabled by default. Then I checked the device manager to make sure that my driver worked. I didn't find any question marks
or exclamation marks in device manager. And then I tried a restart of my computer. But the adapter still stayed disabled.
Then I tried pressing the combination of fn + f12, finally the adapter came to alive. And I could successfully connect to the
router and surf the Internet, but after another reboot, the adapter didn't show up automatically, instead I had to press that
combination of fn + f12 again. Before this installation, my computer usually worked automatically with wireless adapter
loaded on boot. So I wanna know how I could make the internal wireless adapter be enabled on boot without turn it on
manually.

Thanks.

A:External display settings change when Power options change?

Check to see what resolution your laptop's display is at, what the external TV resolution is when you connect it to your laptop, and MAYBE what resolution the videos you're watching are. This just sounds like a resolution issue. If the TV is at a larger resolution than your laptop's resolution, change the TV's resolution to the size your laptop is at. Then try watching a video to see what happens. Hope this helps.

Im running out of room on my internal hard drive and was thinking about getting a 1tb external hd

A few questions...first of all I know that usb might be too slow to play some games, so installing games on the external is a no no then?

What if i just got an internal HD and used an adapter? usb to sata, would that be faster than just using an external hard drive?

I want the fastest storage possible and really would like to run games and videos off it.

by the way I was looking at this my book essential by Western digital
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=353

A:Internal vs external HD- Which should i get?

Installing them to an external is not a big no, but newer games are going to be totally unplayable. You could, however, get an E-SATA connected hard drive.

SATA to USB is not any faster than using external drives. They are, all in all, just normal hard drives planted inside an enclosure at the factory. Nothing else.

Do you have any reason to get an external? If you just want to have fast storage and run games and watch videos, why not get another external drive? If you want to carry the videos to your friend's place, etc, then yeah, external drive is a decent option.

Aaanyways. If you need an external, then get something like Seagate Freeagent Desk Extreme or Western Digital My Book Home (only model with esata and decent price(recheck this yourself, I'm not 150% sure)).

If you don't need an external, get a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 or Western Digital Caviar Black/Blue.
Aaalso, of course the eSata is no good if you don't have a plug for it. You'll then need to buy an add-on card to handle that... Also the drives don't come with an eSata cable. You can use the USB for watching movies, but games, and copying lots of files are recommended to be done thru eSata.

A:External HDD to Internal HDD

I'm no professional, so this may not be the most correct answer. Be warned.

It sounds like it should work fine. I would aassume that since it's not originally an internal HDD, you may not be able to mount it. As long as nothing is scratched or jolted around as the HDD runs, meaning there's no damage, I would assume that the files would be just fine.

Greetings all,

Recently my 500GB external HDD stopped working. the power supply in the case stopped working.I took it out of the case and I've now got it hooked up via SATA as an internal HDD. Working fine but I keep getting SMART errors and warnings that the HDD is about to collapse.

At the moment of writing this I'm copying averything to another external HDD to save my data, so I can't give you the manufacturer name at the moment.
in properties I do get that it is an ST3500830AS ATA Device

Is there some BIOS setting I'm after forgetting, or maybe caused by going from USB external to SATA internal, or should I be really worried about this harddisk?

My pc info will give you any other HW info you may need, or else just ask!

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

I have in my old computer an internal USB Memory Card reader (reads like 8 formats). It's connected to one of the internal USB controllers. My newer system is pretty similar, but I don't want to have to disable (unplug) external ports like I had to before. My thought was to take a USB cable and cut it. Take the internal; USB card reader, and cut the wires, then splice them to the cord, making the internal card reader external (and portable!)....In my mind this makes sense and should work. Is there anything that would prevent this from working?

I am assuming that when I cut the USB cable, there that the four wires are color coded with the standard colors...

Well, I don't know about standard colors, but you can find the pinout of a USB connector easy enough and use an ohmmeter to check which are which.

Hello!

About a year ago I started using an external HDD (Seagate FA GoFlex Desk 1 TB) to store all my files, i.e. documents, videos, music, etc. So whenever I'm listening to music or watching videos, which I'm doing practically all the time, the external HDD is in use. I'm basically using it just like I would use an internal HDD. The only stuff I still save permanently on my internal 500 GB HDD are the OSes (Win 7 and Kubuntu 11.10 dual-boot) and installed software.

Now my question is how bad this actually is for an external HDD in terms of (drastically?) reducing its lifespan? I'm asking because I keep reading that external HDDs aren't really suited for this and are primarily designed for plugging it in once a week or so and doing backups.

It certainly shouldn't be there after a format unless you reinstalled a defective program.

But if you install and run Startup Control Panel or
Startup Control Panel (Exe version for Vista), you will be able to control what starts with your machine and remove that program's startup.

A:Internal and External DNS Name Conflicts

1. Yes, as your websites are hosted externally you will need to setup forward and reverse lookups from your domain.

2. Not sure I understand the question? Place what where? The IP addresses you use will depend on the IP addresses already in use for your website.

3. As long as the domain name is registered to yourself/business this shouldn't be necessary but if your website is hosted by an external company you need to make sure the DNS records on the internet are correct. i.e. 'A' record for website points to website, 'MX' record points to your mail servers etc

4. No. Well as far as I'm aware on any windows machine, changing the domain name requires a reboot.

My daughter's desktop computer won't start up at all. When she hits the button, nothing happens. She needs to know if there is any way to connect a desktop's internal HD to her laptop as an external HD temporarily so she can get her banking records off of it. No backups, of course.

If not, shouldn't she be able to install it as slave into another computer and boot up and retrieve the files?

Thanks for any suggestions

A:Internal HD connect as in external

You can get an external enclosure, put the drive in there and then connect it to the laptop with a USB cable. Find out if it's an IDE or SATA drive. Here's an example of an IDE enclosure http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817193019 and a SATA enclosure http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817201025. There are also a few that will handle both IDE and SATA.

She could also put it in another desktop (one that will hold more than one hard drive) as a slave drive.

If she gets an access denied error, take ownership of the files or folders http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421.

I'm a pc gamer and I'm currently stuck with a Sony Vaio laptop because of money problems.
For some reason, when in teamspeak 3, raidcall, or ventrillo while doing anything slightly graphic intensive (like play any video game or surf the internet) my audio input starts to sound crazy. My friends keep saying that my computer is haunted because it sounds so bad.

I have a brand new input/output jack headset that works fine on other computers and I have the most up to date audio driver possible for my laptop. I don't know what else I can do to fix it. Any suggestions?

I want to control my external microphone as line in and keep built-in mic as one for calls.

When i plug in my external mic the control passes to the external and the internal mic is not available. I want to control both these separately.

I ham having Toshiba L750 with conexant driver.
It has only one option in Recording devices even if i plug in external mic (as shown in the attachment).
How can i get the line-in (External mic) as a separate option?

Help me plssss
Thanks in Advance

A:Internal and External Microphone

You need the Microphone mode. The microphone mode provides 5VDC on the "ring" connection, which is required by a "computer" microphone. If you use or set the jack mode to "Line" the "ring" connector will change from 5VDC to a signal in connection and a "computer" microphone will not work.

I've just recently purchased a new HDD and I now have 3 HDDs but only 4 bays. I have 2 DVD Drives and 2 HDDs already installed. How can turn my 3rd drive into an external drive, if possible.

P.S. - If you're wondering why I want this done, It's because my main drive supports my OS, the 2nd one is my storage, and that 3rd one has the new Vista (build 5270) that I want to finish playing with. It is sooooo awesome!!

A:Turn an Internal HDD to an External!?

Turning the internal into an external shouldn't be a problem, you can pick up an external enclosure online for fairly cheap

I got a external dvd writer a couple of years ago, Its made by lacie but the actual sticker on the drive is lite-on it corp. The model number is SOHW-812S.

The drive is firewire and i have a firewire pci adapter in my pc. However after the drive bay refused to open, and a failed attempt at a repair in windows, and the same problem after a reboot, i think its dead. Im not sure if its the drive or the pci card and i dont have any friends with firewire to try out my drive.

I stripped the case off the external drive and was left with what looks like a perfectly normal internal drive. Or is it? can i just plug this in to my ide cable and see if is working to eliminate the drive or card dilemma?

Thanks in advance

Considering the price hike of External HD over Internal ones (when your working with a tight budget!) is it possible to use an Internal HD as an External one?

What would be my connectivity problems?
What are my compatability considerations?
Is it possible even?

I have an old Pc; I was thinking of connecting it's internal HD to my notebook.
Though I would consider buying a new Internal HD if it is possible and eleviate compatability problems.

Thank you for any help you may have.

Hi there! I hope I'm in the right forum.
Here's my issue.

We're running Windows 2003 R2 using native Windows DNS

I need to create a DNS entry that will allow our internal users to connect to an external IP. There is no FQDN, just an IP.

I tried a CNAME entry but it would not resolve, I also tried an A record but again it would not work.

I can access the external site by plugging in the IP into a browser but for our users here that will not cut it. They need a user friendly name they can remember that resolves to the external IP

Any help?

TIA,
Dave

Does an external HDD have any benefits over an extra internal HDD for backing up data?

I think if the truth be known that an internal HDD providing it's not a partition of the primary HDD would be the best but is this correct?

I was thinking about having as well as my 500GB HDD that has a partition which is also being used for automatic back ups another 80GB HDD for just copying and pasting the folders I want to back up, but using Bitlocker to protect. As well as that I was going to buy another 500GB HDD which will be used for automatic back ups as well.

So in total I have 2 locations on 2 separate drives for Norton Ghost to use for automatic back ups and an other separate HDD for just copying folders to which has been encrypted using BitLocker.

Will this be alright or should I add either another internal HDD or an external HDD?

A:External Vs Internal HDD for back up?

Well, I've always recommended external HDDs, so that the data will still be protected in the event that heat or motherboard issues mess up more than one internal HDD.

I installed Windows 7 on my ASUS EEE PC 701. It runs great, but the only problem is space on the hard drive. The internal hard drive only has 4GB, and about 3.20GB of it was used to install Windows 7. I'd like to install programs like iTunes and Adobe Audition but one of those alone would probably exceed the amount of space I have left.

However, I do have an Western Digital 320GB external harddrive. How do I make it so I can switch between using the internal hard drive and the external one as the main storage for installing programs and such? I know its possible because I've seen many people ask about it, but nobody ever completely shows how to do it. They just vaguely explain how it works...I'd really appreciate detailed instructions.

Thanks in advance!

A:Can I use both internal HD and external HD as main?

I'm not sure how you'd go about it without problems. You would always have to have the external HD attached for Windows to work, at which point you're better off getting something suitable for that use from the beginning, i.e. a desktop PC, or a regular notebook with a proper HD. You can't just arbitrarily be switching from Programs residing in the Eee PC's internal drive and an external drive.

My 2 cents .

I've about filled up an internal HD to an HP notebook and I need to decide if the best approach is to 1) see if I can get a larger internal HD, or 2) if it is just simpler to go with an external for storing all general files and keeping my programs on the internal.........?

Any thoughts?

And, no matter which route I take is there a clear list of things to do in the order of doing? Like, being careful what I do to my OS and other programs?

Get a larger internal if your HP will support a larger capacity drive. Use an external drive to back up important files like documents, pictures and music, removing these from time to time from the internal drive

A:Internal IDE in external case ?

As long as the drive works and you get the proper enclosure everything should go smoothly. You should look for an external enclosure that is supports an IDE drive. You can find them on the net pretty cheap.

OK so I have one GB Seagate Cuda Hard Drive There good Model the is the newest model it's got the Back-Up HDD. Internal, External..?? or MB cache and Gb s transfer they are good drives and they are getting Fairly cheap I can get a brand new one for right now at Buy com So Here is my question I have nothing to back-up all my Back-Up HDD. Internal, or External..?? Data to I really really need a second drive just in case of a Drive Back-Up HDD. Internal, or External..?? failure it's happened to me once I never wanna loose everything again I have over songs and Lots of Photo's and video's I'm going to get one ASAP I wanted everyone's opinion I was thinkin to get an identical drive and just make exact copy of my current drive and then have a program always do that so if I get a failure I'm ok cuz I can just swap them out But then I started thinkin that maybe I want an external If I'm going out going to a freinds house or whatever I was thinkin maybe a Seagate External or Maybe those cool My Passport ones whatever is best and mid priced So what does everyone think what would be my best bet for best Drive safest and overall a good price ratio I know external's sometimes die faster than internal cuz always getting moved and what not or from heat in that tiny enclosure so I'm just not sure Peoples Opinion's are very much wanted Let me know what you think I should do I'm only using around GB now maybe a lil more but I plan to add to that Thanks Cheers

A:Back-Up HDD. Internal, or External..??

I'm always lookin for a good deal. I'm thinkin external because I can have portable 500GB.. that would be great.. I know that Firewire and eSATA are both much faster than USB2.0 but when it's something your only using to Back-up Data to.. and not something I'll be using on a daily basis, I'm thinkin that the speed is not all that much of importance.. yes I could get a external that has USB and eSATA both.. but they cost a good $40 or more just for having the eSATA. and like I said, it's nice but not all that important.. the cheapest one I could find for a 500GB external HD by seagate was like 119.00 USD.. until I found this.

Seagate 500GB FreeAgent USB 2.0 7200RPM External Hard Drive - ST305004FDA1E1-RK - Buy.com

I'm thinkin I'll get that, Does not have eSATA or anything special. but it's cheap, and just what I need. How does this look. thats a GREAT deal and pretty cheap for 500GB and even better has a 5 yr warranty. what ya guys think?

Edit* Or something like a WD MyBook, I'd get a my passport but they only go to 320. The Mybook looks like it has better cooling, as the Seagate doesn't have any vents at all from what I can see.. what do you guys think.??

For many home users when they connect to a home router there computer is assigned an IP address in class C (in the range 192.0.0.0 - 223.255.255.255) but there external IP (issued by the ISP) is different (e.g. 206.87.81.34). Hi.

I have an external Western Digital External HDD (500GB) and it is always connected to my PC. When I start the computer up the BIOS tells me that it cannot find a bootable device. I checked the BIOS priority with the EHDD connected and that was put at a higher priority than the internall HDD. Now, the problem is, the Internal HDD was not displayed in the boot priority and was not in the boot list, therefore I could not put it at a higher priority than the EHDD.

Starting the computer with the externall HDD works fine, it's just that it's a pain having to disconnect and connect it all the time.

Thanks,
Lighty.

A:Using a external hdd insted of internal ssd

Leon478 welcome to SF,
Absolutely you can. I might recommend a new SSD though and a back up drive. On my work lappy I run a 256gb SSD and then a 1TB usb 3.0 HDD external. Another idea would be to get a large SD card and boot from it to a internal spinner. Lots of options but your idea is correct but you will need to change the boot order in your bios.

Problem is, there is little or no sound coming from the internal, or when connected, external speakers.
