I've looked around the forums and haven't found a decent answer to this...
Does anyone know a specific date for the release of the x64 version of the connector software for Windows Home Server?
I believe MS said in the first quarter of 2008, but I was hoping that someone had a more specific date than that... perhaps someone from MSDN or the WHS team can answer this question in greater depth???
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
The x64 Connector will be bundled in with Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 which Microsoft have slated (somewhat vaguely) as shipping in the first half of 2008.
My hunch is that we won't see this in Q1. As soon as a date is released we'll announce it over at We Got Served (We Got Served - The Windows Home Server Site)
MVP - Windows Home Server
Does anybody know where we can actually download software to do this???
I have seen 1 method to do it whereby you login to your server with a special adress that is supposed to work; HOWEVER, the address on the site is - http/servername:55000
The problem is that the typical login MUST use https://
So not sure if that is a typo of what. Neither one works anyway.
The other way I found was using the command line witha long string that seems to start but ultimately errors out.
Ideas? Someone must be running WHS with 64bit cleint.
There must be someone who is having trouble with 64 bit and WHS.
I've just installed an evaluation copy of Windows Home Server, and it looks great! Slight problem though; When using the connecter (either through the CD or through the shared space) it gives the error:
Unable to connect to your home server
The following issues may cause this problem:
-Your home server is not powered on
-A firewall on this computer is blocking the connection
-A proxy server is configured on this computer for the network connection
-My WHS is powered on
-I have tried disabling AVG
-I never have used a proxy, and don't see the need to.
I have tried this on two computers, both Laptops, Samsungs (one X50, one X60), running Vista Home Premium.
UPDATE: I can also confirm it didn't work for my XP laptop either (Samsung Q35)
hi i have a e-machine EL1200-6H that i am converting from Vista home to WHS and all is fine but the NVIDIA NForce Networking Controller and i tried to find the compatible drivers online and had no success. If you know more of the compatibility of the network adapter pls let me know if ther is a way to fix.
P.S. its a on board adapter
release a fix that actually does something rather than state that it is out of date.
I ask again for a simple fix to reset the homegroups on home networked computers to allow us to start again

It's but I still have no idea if and when Windows will be released in this year Man I am keeping my fingers crossed for May to June I have seen the screenshots and even a few imitation skins that allows a Windows look ion Vista as a theme They look great and I can ... Revamp Release 7 Date Seven Win I So Windows Bad - Want just imagine how the real thing will look I am not really a fan of the new taskbar yet but I may have to tweak settings to make it look Windows Seven Release Date ... I Want Win 7 So Bad - Revamp as dark as Vista's Everything else seems familiar even with a few improvements but pleasing none-the-less As for Windows Media Player I have not tried it yet but it looks interesting so it may grow on me It's funny though how when Vista was coming out everyone wanted a copy and bittorrent was in full gear PC people wanted to test it out by any means and bittorrent was the place They even came out with pre-activated versions so people could use it permanently in x x etc I heard people managed to achieve such things but others who tried the invalid route got a wake up call when Windows confirmations came up and froze the software OS What will happen in Seven Will there be tighter restrictions like as I mentioned or will it be looser with XP and ME Or will piracy get the better of Microsoft Will it be as easy to use Win without having to enter a bag of keys from sources MS has been giving away betas of Win and it has been buzzed about for months now Is this sincere or a trap Is this some kind of reverse psychology thing to catch bootleggers Whatever the outcome I want my Win to install legally so I can get to enjoy so I hope Microsoft lets the cat out of the bag by June the latest What do you think
You're kidding, right?
The Windows Beta 7 that is available from Microsoft is Legal. You can download it from here and get a product key.
Welcome to Windows 7
Has there been any news?
Also do you think it would be hard to update a computer currently running XP to windows 8?
Does anyone know when the Windows 8 Developers Release is going to be released? I've heard around September of this year, but that was only one source.
Do you mean Beta?http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/1671-windows-8-developers-release-date.html
Windows Release Candidate due date is May Wow I can't wait I am gonna need a blank DVD to burn it to date 7 Candidate 5 due May is Windows Release and use I hope it is sturdy and doesn't crash or have too many bugs it it What I don't know it how long that setup version on the hard drive will last Will it last until the full and final thing is out Is Windows likely or very likely to come with their final version of the software this Windows 7 Release Candidate due date is May 5 year or does it look more like Windows 7 Release Candidate due date is May 5 I am hearing conflicting results all over the web What's going on and when can we Windows users use Windows RC as long as we want without having to get a license and upgrade or whatever I am kinda bored or Vista now I want something new I also need to try WMP I wonder how much hard drive space is needed to run Windows beta rc or otherwise hmmm Fo' shizzle
You don't have to burn Win7 on DVD to install, you can make it by mounting image to virtual drive and running installation from your current OS level. And this is not system update, just clean install. Installer copies files to hard drive, reboots and installs.http://www.sevenforums.com/software/7467-windows-7-release-candidate-due-date-may-5-a.html
Well Microsoft has finally announced an actual release date for Windows 8 and it's October 26, 2012.
Already been posted by Grinler:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/578066/windows-10-release-date-of-july-29th-announced/http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/578072/july-29th-is-release-date-for-windows-10/
Windows 8 Release Date Possibly Leaked -- Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine Online
did you see how is good..lol
Wow, I wouldn't have thought that it would be that soon. I do not see how or why it would be that early for a RTM though.http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/403-windows-8-release-date-possibly-leaked.html
Anyone know the release date of Windows 7 Service Pack 2?
Are they release the beta or RC SP2 yet?
Timing is the key
Why would microsoft release Windows 7 SP2 when Windows 8 will be out in less than 3 months
I have been given a PC with Windows Home of 2011 client software Removal Windows Server Home Premium bit This was a client PC from a small old Windows Home Server system which has now been dismantled as the server PC failed My unit works fine but I cannot remove the irritating Server client items from it - Launchpad and Alert Services etc etc Have looked everywhere on the disk but cannot find any uninstall file anywhere All the relevant files seem to be in the Program Files Windows Server Bin folder but nothing found there No separate uninstalling prog will work either Have considered starting up the PC in Safe Mode physically removing the Windows Server folder and contents then running a registry cleaner to tidy up the loose ends Am concerned that this might make the PC unstable so ask if anyone has any useful suggestions For now I have worked through the Start Up process and inhibited the ones considered relevant Also CCleaner has stopped the Launchpad This has worked but would like to permanently remove Removal of Windows Home Server 2011 client software the unwanted items Ted
No one has supplied any suggestions as to my programme removal so decided to risk it and do it myself as described.
Backed up whole HD plus registry, restarted in basic Safe Mode then physically removed all traces of WHS 2011 in file system.
Emptied Recycle Bin then restarted as normal.
No disasters occurred so used CCleaner and Advanced Uninstaller PRO. They mopped up the loose ends and everything seems to be fine now. Job done!
I suppose the same process could be used for most difficult to remove items.
Windows 7 Upgrade Pro version spotted at Walmart tonight (OCT 18, 2009 @ 22:30).

Just wondering when the target date/timeframe is for Windows Vista Service Pack 3?
Windows Vista is drawing to the end of its life. Under Microsoft’s official
product lifecycle, the mainstream support phase for Windows Vista will end in less than one year, on April 10, 2012—five years, two months, and 16 days after it became generally available on January 25, 2007. (For
business editions, there’s an extended support period that lasts another five years, guaranteeing security updates until 2017.)Carey Frisch

When viewing the software downloads page, all of the update dates are newer than the release dates. And they are all very close to current date (Jun 20). Running the HP tool doesn't show any update is needed. So I'm puzzled. Are all these drivers/patches really out of date or is the earlier release date still the correct one. Surprised that every available update shows close to current date.
Hi: The date you see next to the actual driver exe file is the correct driver date. The 'update' date you see is because HP redesigned the website and had to upload many of the drivers again.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Update-Date-does-not-Match-Release-Date/td-p/5663479
By now, our readers know that Windows 10 is slated to be released to manufacturing this July. Popular shopping site Newegg has apparently and likely inadvertently revealed the general availability date for Windows 10, by listing a pre-order of Windows 10 Pro OEM. According to Newegg (first spotted by WinSupersite), Windows 10 Pro OEM will run for $149.99 and will be available on the 31st of August.
Microsoft has yet to reveal the price tiers for the different Windows 10 editions (you can read more about that here) and there's a chance that this information may just be a place holder for Windows 10 on Newegg. For example, Windows 7 is also listed for $149.99. For now, we suggest taking this with a huge grain of salt. Here's a cached version of the Newegg listing on Google in case it gets removed.
Windows 10 Pro price and release date potentially leaked by Newegg
Windows 7 Pro costs more than that still where I am from, I was looking at upgrading so I would qualify for the free upgrade to W10 Pro.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f338/windows-10-pro-price-and-release-date-potentially-leaked-by-newegg-1000890.html
Hello everyone! Happy New Year!!
I am trying to replace the standard 300 watt power supply in my HP m7350n computer. It looks like I can handle it, except I am worried about the 24 pin connector that attaches to the motherboard (P5LP-LE). I don't want to break anything, and it doesn't want to release when I press on it and try pulling. I am tempted to use a tiny screwdriver, but that feels like a bad move.
The new 430 watt supply has a 20 plus 4 connector. This just attaches like the 24 pin connector but in two parts (right?)
Yes just break away the 4 extra pins, using anything you have

Hello, I have been searching for a good application which enables me to stream content to my Philips 7000 series 3D LED television.
I previously have been using my PS3 for this with PS3 Media Server, and I'm looking for a similar application for my PC to stream directly to my TV.
If anyone can name one or a few, whether it's free or payed, I would be much obliged.
This is one I've heard is pretty good.

anyone know when halflife 2 is supposed to be released because all the sores are saying september 1st and the game actually downloaded via steam to my computer today but says it is locked unitl the release date but the game is on my computer ... just cant play it lol ... any one have any idea of the date that would be awsome
No, they have not made an official release date yet, and it has not gone gold yet. Nobody knows when it will be released, but you will definitely hear about it when they announce it. What you downloaded was a preload, stuff that won't change with the final product, like textures and sounds....they're doing this to save some bandwidth later when HL2 is released, since people will be able to get it via Steam.
Has anyone heard of the release date for SP2?

Thank you for the share, i was actually just sitting here last night contemplating a play date with Linux again, it has been a bit
Anyone know when they are putting that card on the shelves? Im gonna get me one of them.
Yep those look pretty nice.
I read an article on them a few weeks ago that said it was possible they would come out in Q4 of 2005, but they will probably show up in 2006.
They are going to be quite expensive too, $250-$299, but oooh boy will they be fun
I watch a lot of G4TechTV and this PCI Express thing sounds pretty cool.
I tried searching google, but I couldn't come up with any sort of pricing.
So anyone know?
I guess this is going to be more expensive than the new x800 and 6800?
And is there a release date?

Hi I'm new to TenForums so I hope I'm posting appropriately and apologies in advance for a longish post Someone posted a nice tutorial on how to rename a network profile in Win It provided two approaches using administrative tools secpol msc and editing the registry Apparently the use of Windows network Home release) renamed (official profile 10 a in Can be secpol msc is disabled in Win Home Per encountering an error message even once locating secpol msc and then seeing a few items on the 'net to that effect If anyone knows differently I'd love to know the fact of the matter The seeming inability to use an appropriate tool leads me to a question about the registry editing approach I have wireless connections quot Curtis- g quot and quot Curtis- g quot with those SSIDs and Can a network profile be renamed in Windows 10 Home (official release) my wired connection was given an inappropriate name of quot Curtis- g quot that I'd like to change However looking through the profile list I see only one quot Curtis- g quot as well as a quot Curtis- g quot and I'm afraid to touch that one in case it is the one attached correctly to the wireless connection Can anyone tell me how I can find the profile for my wired connection per se I wouldn't have thought that there would be only one profile name given the situation of inappropriately assigning an SSID to the wired connection Thanks in advancehttp://www.tenforums.com/network-sharing/46228-can-network-profile-renamed-windows-10-home-official-release.html

A free Windows multimedia and home automation application is released, called the Digital Home Server (DHS). Thanks to the nice graphical interface, DHS looks great in your living room, where it can act as a media player.
DHS is a hobby project that has grown wildly in size, and started as a graphical interface for 7" USB monitors. The current version can handle any monitor size from 7" up to whatever, and the screen design will be adapted accordingly. Moreover, the layout is touchscreen compatible, so even on small monitors you can still easily control all functions.
It's been a while since I release the Digital Home Server, so I though I give a little update on the modules that have been released in the meantime :
DVD Player : play DVD from optical disk or local hard disk
Scribble Pad : a little drawing application
Wakeup module : set alarm time, and wake up with music
Picasa slideshow : photo slideshow with Picasa Web Albums
Notify My Android : send free notifications to your Android smartphone
I hope you like DHS as much as I do !
Mark your calendar, wrap a ribbon around your finger or write a little sticky yellow note. Download Day will start on June 17, 2008.
All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours - it?s that easy.
Details here: Spread Firefox | Download Day 2008
I'll be grabbing it for sure that day - and within a couple of days after that I should have some benchmarks ready comparing the newly released Opera 9.5 and Fx 3....
I know Opera still beats Fx in terms of the Acid4 test, but I am hoping that for the first time Fx will get Opera in terms of pure, all out speed. I think it has a really good chance this time around.
For those who haven t already heard Lucasarts after promising that the X-Box and PC release dates for one of the most highly anticipated games of next year would be simultaneous so as to avoid various Shennenigans Lucasarts 2 Old Knights Release of Date the Republic grievances from Knights of the Old Republic 2 Lucasarts Release Date Shennenigans PC gamers from the first title that are more or less summed up in THIS THREAD The gist of it is that even though They knew that X-Box development was running ahead of PC development to generate Knights of the Old Republic 2 Lucasarts Release Date Shennenigans hype they said they d be released simultaneously Now a couple months before the new release date of the US X-Box version they ve announced they re going to screw over PC and International customers release the US X-Box version two entire months before Knights of the Old Republic 2 Lucasarts Release Date Shennenigans the PC and International version which means that any PC and International customers who frequent gaming forums unless they decide to cut themselves off of the internet for the intermittent two months are going to know just about the entire plot before they play the game Not a good thing for a CRPG The only reason I m bringing this up here is to ask of our resident US lawyers whether there s some US law similar to the European one brought up by one of the forum posters in the thread I linked to earlier I m feeling very tempted right now to try and see if I can t bring up charges of misleading commercial advertising with intent to deceive before the Court of Justice of the European Communities against Lucas Arts Europe Click to expand And whether I d have an actual case should I decide to bring down the wrath of the legal system upon them This sucks JT nbsp

Gahh their naming scheme is annoying.
Though I suppose it isn't a huge change from current i5/i7's.
Don't they run on a new socket?

I have 2 servers; windows 2000 & windows 2008, I can always access them via XP but my system 7 home can't authenticate. It appears to add the domain name as a preamble my user name in the authentication....does this make sense?
Microsoft's decision to forgo user control over security updates in favor of mandatory, automatically installed updates in Windows 10 Home edition was a point of contention when the news was revealed earlier this month.
This is going to make July 29th, 2015, go down in history as Black Wednesday for MS (as well as the succeeding weeks) and just totally bork the Win10 rollout and cause public backlash like Vista did. Millions of customers who upgrade will potentially have any forced driver update causing a broken system or other issues.
Windows Updates have been a real thorn in my side since moving to the country where I have limited bandwidth ISP. I have 6-7 Windows PCs I (try to) keep updated, both XP and W7. I've tried downloading updates just ONCE using the Microsoft Update Catalog, but then I still have to note what pc needs what updates and install them manually.
Newegg's sale on Windows Home Server today has me wondering whether I might dedicate a PC to WSUS just to manage updates.
Can folks here with WSUS experience suggest whether this is worth doing? Or might be more trouble than it's worth vs. the manual "Update Catalog" method? Or tried w/WHS and that's a problem in itself? TIA for any feedback...
I manage the WSUS implementation where I work. Overall, it's a pretty straightforward product. The only hassle will be going through the list of "all updates" for Windows 7 and for XP and declining the ones that don't pertain to your systems. The good news is that WSUS will determine for you, which are needed and which aren't and will place an icon next to the ones which you need.
I don't have experience with running WSUS on WHS myself....but I'm guessing it would be pretty much the same as doing it on a straight up Windows server.
As far as getting the clients to use your WSUS server, that's a simply registry change.
I have a file server at home with a Quad core gb ram and a tb of storage It is running Ubuntu Home Windows Server choose: R2 Windows Server 2008 vs. 2011 Help Desktop and sharing video files primarily From my school I have access to a free copy of Windows Server R Other than the server I have Windows Help choose: Windows Home Server 2011 vs. Windows Server 2008 R2 desktops Windows laptop and Windows Vista laptop I am interested in moving to a Windows setup as I am done with the Ubuntu experiment WHS looks like what I need but I have a free copy of WS and I would miss the for WHS My goals can be described best as Need to Haves File media server local network Dedicated game server for various games for friends Print server Nice to Haves Music Video Streaming over the internet Automatic backup server File server over the internet Ability to manager other PC s Help choose: Windows Home Server 2011 vs. Windows Server 2008 R2 from the server My ability as an admin No experience Willing to learn and put forth initial effort to get setup Don t have time to really spend more than day moving from Ubuntu to the new setup Don t want to be stuck constantly screwing with things to get it right or keep it running What is going to be best option for my situation
Honestly, I use both in their proper settings, and unless you have a domain at home with multiple users, Windows Server 2008 R2 is overkill...and would require much more tweaking and add-in apps to do what you want. Given your write-up, WHS 2011 is the way to go. It does much of what you want out of the box, and is designed for people who don't want to become server admins (or at least not be forced to).http://www.sevenforums.com/software/216054-help-choose-windows-home-server-2011-vs-windows-server-2008-r2.html

I need some insight on how to backup my windows 7 ultimate box. windows 7 is on C:\ drive by itself some apps installed it is a 200gig sata drive. then i have as drive I:\ applications as a seperate drive as a RAID 0 800gig. these drives are not completely full. I need to know how i can do a image backup for these Two drives C and I together so that if both fail or one fails i can restore. for drive c:\ its OS and some apps then on drive I:\ it is games on this drive. so the games are installed on I:\ drive. how can i keep the integrity of both drives as a backup so that i dont have to reinstall all the games i have installed again ( takes too long) ?
I would image C and I seperately and use free Macrium for that. That is a very reliable, easy to use and fast imaging program.
If you image C with Windows 7 imaging, then 'I' will be imaged automatically because it is considered part of the system. However, I would warn you. Windows 7 imaging is highly unreliable and you really cannot be certain whether you ever be able to recover with your image(s).

Once the finished retail product is available when launched you would need to perform a clean install as with any previous version of Windows. The backup tools however may allow you to preserve and restore user files and settings without too much problem.
The final details in the "pudding" so to speak will be known once the RTM(Release To Manufacturers) is seen. Clean installs are always the preferred option over upgrading over a previous version which can often carry some problems along with the upgrade.
With the Windows Easy Transfer option with 7 once all programs were back on a clean install the restoration of the backup made with that option was found to restore the files and settings with 7. I expect the same should be seen with 8 as well.

I'm trying to decide between Windows Home Server and Windows Server 2008 R2 for my home server PC. Ordinarily it would be a clear cut choice, but I've got a free copy of Server 2008 R2 through my academic MSDN subscription. I'd like to avoid spending extra money if Server 2008 R2 would do the job. But I'm willing to buy Home Server should it prove necesary. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
Server 2008 R2 is a more fully functional product. You will be able to do similar things, but it might be a little more involved getting it set up and working. Plus, if you are interested in IT, you could use the Server 2008 R2 experience....but you won't get hired for your knowledge on Windows Home Server.
My vote is Server 2008 R2 without a doubt.
Hi I have an old ACER EasyStore H which figured out it v1 - Home restore Windows of Server Server should crash on me the other day In the unit I have HD's for OS and for DATA I have done restore not factory reset on the unit earlier and that has been successfull However I never had the amount of data on it as I do now So in a mildly panicked state I need to restore Windows Home Server v1 - restore of Server again I started with that yesterday and restore seems to be OK but when the WHS v connector software shows after restore it's just hanging and do not Windows Home Server v1 - restore of Server continue the installation so I can set a password on the unit So my questions are Would the connector software struggle due to my Windows Technical Preview version Does it make sense to remove data disks restore and put in data disk when done If possible for WHS to reckongnize the data drives afterwards Am I screwed tl dr - Server recovery WHSv doesnt complete and hangs when Connector software is about to be installed on Client computer Thankshttp://www.eightforums.com/software-apps/55556-windows-home-server-v1-restore-server.html
I'm hoping this is the proper forum for this issue I've got a Storage Server R Essentials setup that is functioning well except for one Win Pro bit client computer the one shown in my system specs -- other computers connect to the server and are working fine My problem Something happened to one Win Pro Pro Connector Server botched Win7 installation Storage client computer that messed up it's connector software and its not fully functioning and I'd like to uninstall it reboot then reinstall it--but I can't The connector shows up under Programs amp Features as quot Windows Storage Server R Connector quot However when I go to control panel and try to uninstall the connector on this client I get a message pops up in a box titled quot Windows Server Connector quot that says quot There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package A program required for this install to complete could not be run quot And attempts to reinstall the connector tell me that the connector is already installed So I'm in a mode where I can't uninstall the connector in order to re-install which is what I feel will fix the problem with this client PC As mentioned above the connector appears in the programs features list but oddly doesn't appear in a Revo Uninstaller list Can someone tell me what I have to do to clear the existing installation so I can attempt a new installation of the connector I'm thinking I probably need the Regedit entries affected by a connector install Thanks in advance for your replies
Have you tried going into program files and then running the setup/un-installer from in there? (Run it as Administrator).
Sometimes Programs have trouble un-installing from the control panel for whatever reason.

The before sample looks normal; you can't ping internet sites?
try thisPing by address eg;
(which is google)
then Ping by domainName
ping google.comBOTH should work (before release/renew)
As to failing to renew; that's typical of a router which needs a firmware update.
btw; how are you connected to the Internet (Adsl vs Cable)?
Go to your router config page (put the router address 192.168.0.1/ into your browser)
login, then find the WAN settings page.
TRY a release/renew on that page; it MUST succeed,
I currently have Windows 8 Release Preview, it is my main OS. I have many programs, files, settings, etc.
My question is when the final version of Windows 8 comes out will I be able to upgrade to that version from my current version (Windows 8 Release Preview). What I mean by upgrade is not doing a clean install and having everything put into the windows.old folder.
some minor hints that it won't work, nothing concrete though sorry.http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/7541-windows-8-release-preview-windows-8-final-release.html

Hi all I am posting this for my daughter who is having problems with launching one of her new games Here is her description of the problem I ordered and received Dragon Age II from an international company at the time I selected US Shippers from Amazon so I m not sure how this company came up When I received the disk and box and everything I found that I d been given a UK version which only had a section installation code my computer and the disk called Problem Age "check II release date" with Dragon for a section code I emailed the seller managed to get a good installation code and successfully installed the game Then when I attempted to launch the game I received a prompt from SecuROM asking to perform a release date check This is where I am now stuck each time I attempt to run the release date check Problem with Dragon Age II "check release date" it either doesn t make any progress or only gets to about and then I Problem with Dragon Age II "check release date" receive a popup saying that there has been an error checking the release date There is no error message no code like a webpage will display error or whatever and the seller has been no help whatsoever I have combed the SecuROM site and have emailed them haven t heard back yet but have found nothing pertaining to my problem A Google search showed that a lot of other people had problems with SecuROM and EA games before this game was released in and I only recently got it because I got into the DA franchise last year when Inquisition was released and loved it and wanted to play the preceding games Origins was amazing and I ve heard good things about II Has anyone else encountered this problem with SecuROM before I ve attached a screenshot of what keeps happening when she tries to launch the program I can add that she has been in email contact with the seller from Amazon several times and they have suggested several things but nothing has worked nbsp
I don't know much about Games but did she try what's in post no. 2 in the following thread?
BTW I wouldn't recommend changing the date on the computer which is suggested further down.
1 year old Alienware has had software issues for over 6 months now What support is that
What kind of software issues? If you have an OEM built computer it's Dell's responsibility to make sure the computer get's the correct updates for their hardware when an updated OS is released. This is the reason my 2012 Sony Vaio is obsolete because it crashes constantly because Sony isn't going to release a new video driver for their AMD/Intel multi-card for Win 10. You should be talking with Dell/Alienware support to get your issues resolved.http://forums.windowscentral.com/ask-question/434291-why-does-microsoft-release-upsupported-new-software.html
I apologize now if this is the wrong are to post this. Did not see anywhere better for it. I'm attempting to install Windows Home Server. I downloaded the demo from Microsoft to try it out before spending the money on it if I didn't like it. However after the initial windows is loading files screen, it comes up with the loading screen with the green bouncing bars. after that goes away it just sits there with a blank screen.
If anyone has any ideas on why this might be, please let me know.
I just read about this new OS Home Server Windows on Digg Apparently Windows Home Server is available on Newegg for sale My first thought on this is WOW just wow for ANOTHER windows OS I will agree that it appears VERY user friendly as it should with such a price tag Now I posted this for two reasons One I m wondering what everyone else thinks about this And two my first thoughts upon seeing this were what are all the capabilities of Ubuntu Server and FreeNAS Since I ve been tinkering with open source for a long time but have always remained a noob I ve never really had Windows Home Server an extensive experience I m not completely aware of all the possibilities of the open source servers and if they have the ability to automate windows backups So what does everyone think about this new WinHoSo Windows Home Server doesn t Windows Server etc have these abilities as well Could FreeNAS or Ubuntu Server be setup to handle these tasks easily without expert open source installation experience I m eager to hear everyone s opinions nbsphttps://forums.techguy.org/threads/windows-home-server.646839/
I do not know where to put this beacuse it doesn't fit all that well anywhere else, so I put it here.
The question is, does anyone know if you can install WHS on a custom machine.
It kind of says yes in the specifications, but I just want to be sure
I see it here, but don't know if I can install it on a machine I build.
Anyone else install the beta version of this yet?
I installed this under my Virtual PC 2007 Beta, and had a few problems with the installation.
Besides being a toned down version of Small Business Server 2003 (as shown during the setup!), it also attempts to activate the software (why it does this on a BETA I don't know) during the installation, and makes several attempts to make me realize that it will be formatting my drive and I will lose all data.
Uh, I would not have chosen "new installation" if I wanted to keep my data... plus this is a VPC, so it never really got rid of all my data.
slightly off forum topic but hey
Just built my home server and installed a copy of Windows server 2008 i had.
Now i dont like it, and never have, as its the full fat version, even turning it off is a mission.
Is it worth getting Server 2011, or shall i just install windows 7?
As im only using it for file backups and as a media streamer to my home cinema system.
Do you have a copy of Technet where you get Windows licenses? If not, why not install a linux distro on the device and use that instead as it won't cost you anything?http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/199779-windows-home-server-over-7-a.html
Hi. Not sure if this is the right place to post ths topic. Acer Easy store home server is on order - delivery imminent. It uses Windows Home Server which has a useful feature for back up and HD failure called Drive Extender. Microsoft has announded that it is cancelling this feature in the next version of WHS, due out in 2011. Does this have implications for me, considering I have bought the current version of WHS; in other words, I won't upgade. The reason I ask is that people seem to suggest a dark future since Microsoft "won't support" the current version in the future. Thanks! With the release of Home server RC the other day I though it was time I loaded it up and put it through its paces Although still unsure if I actualy need a home server I thought I would install it on the right kit from the start Server - IBM xSeries P gig gig Memory gig SATA Western Digital Drive So with a very lighter wallet I start the installation The setup took around mins and used the same type of installer as Vista so far so Home Windows Server good After the installation was completed it promts me for a supidly strong password reboots and its ready to go I spend the next half hour adding drivers and setting up my nework shares though the very simple quot Windows Home server console quot Now it is finaly time to run the Home server connector software on my PC I connect in to the servers network shares and go to the software folder then run the setup Oh dear none of the PC's in my house have a bit OS and havent for the past few years Just WTF are microsoft thinking their new flagship product stuck in the bit past Very disapointing Microsoft very disapointing
In many post in the official Windows Home Server forum, Microsoft employees have announced that Windows Vista 64 bit support could be something in v1, but don't expect this to be actually released until v2.
