Preferred Solution: Trouble Accessing Some Websites Today

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I cant access the site. With a proxy yes. I crashed my desktop previously by use of a proxy so I really would like to not use one again.

-Facebook (Since Mid-January of 2009)

My inability to access face book has been a reoccurring cyclical problem for me, and it tends to dissapear for three weeks, then reappear for one. This problem was present on my desktop before I got my laptop.

-----

My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6 with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
My desktop is Windows XP (crashed twice)

I am not an obsessive user of the sites listed above. I use them to keep in contact with family and old friends.

I am the administrator on my laptop, and the only one who uses it.

My virus protection software is the newest version of Norton.

YES I have tried deleting the cache and cookies in my browsers, turning off the firewall, and tried command prompt and received no error messages. There are no blocked sites on my laptop.
I have tried Google Chrome, Safari, IE 7&8, and Firefox. NOTHING WORKS.

The error message that I receive is either unknown error, or "[insert browser] cannot access this webpage]".

Maybe someone can finally help me, I have read, and tried all of the advice given for similar topics, and since it hasn't worked, I thought it would be best to post my own thread and see if someone can unravel the mystery.

A:Trouble accessing websites

Please do this.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

TRACERT mcafee.com

Wait for the trace to complete, then right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and save that file to your desktop. Note: This is NOT the Anti Virus from AVG.When the trial period expires it becomes feature-limited freeware but is still worth keeping as a good on-demand scanner.1. Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double click it to launch the set up program.2. Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.o Next select the "Start Update" button. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.4. Once the update has completed, select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.5. Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".6. Under "Reports"o Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"o Un-Select "Only if threats were found"Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will run it in safe mode.1. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:2. AVG will now begin the scanning process. Please be patient as this may take a little time.Once the scan is complete, do the following:5. If you have any infections you will be prompted. Then select "Apply all actions."6. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.7. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower lef- hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file. This is important).8. A friend, normally US-based, is traveling in Italy and is having some problems getting to the US-based web sites she needs.
For example, if she goes to a well known website like Netflix, (even if she clicks on the favorites bar or keeps writing www.netflix.com in,) it switches over to https://signup.netflix.com/global and won?t change back.
Has anyone had similar problems? Solutions?

A:Traveling overseas, trouble accessing websites

Yeah, that is a problem - especially in the bigger European countries. You always get the local flavors. I have the same problem in Germany and France. It takes some searching and the use of different search engines (Bing, Google, etc.).

Sometimes the webpages themselves have the option to switch to a different country. Be on the lookout for that.

Hi and welcome to TSF. . .

One thing I'd like to look at first is a file contained within the Vista driver folder that may contain web site names/url's.

Go into Windows Explorer then Computer. Your looking for the following:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc (subfolders of each other)

Is there a file named hosts?

Upload it placing a .txt on the end and attach it to a post and I'll take a look. OK?

regards. . .

A:Interesting Opinions On Today's 100 Best Websites

The results of the poll are interesting, but perhaps not indicative of choices of the general internet user. For example, Firefox is listed as first choice amongst browsers, but IE still has a vastly predominant market share. And serious investigators would not cite Wikipedia as a first choice.

Ok you guys here is a poser of a question for you all I can access any website on the internet with IE except for two and theses two will I am sure be known to this forum. Untill I am told any different I will not say what these sites are but for some reason I cannot access either of this sites and have been told that my ip has not been banned from theses sites. I was able to access both these sites up untill the 24th Oct 2005 so what I though was if I reformatted my HDD and Install my wins xp home which is authenticated and has a sp2 on it that this problem would be resolved. When I try to access either one or the other of these sites again I am still getting Page Will Not Display but if I use another computer I can access these two websites. Has anyone on the forum any idea what it could be (I have my Suspicions) But maybe I could be wrong. A:can't accessing websites

Lets start with the basics

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ Win2K and XP only
Install ewido.
During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck both "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
Launch ewido
It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
On the left side of the main screen click update
Click on Start and let it update.
DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.
You might print the next part out to use in safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Run Ewido:
Click on scanner
Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
Save the report to your C: Drive
This will take some time to run!
Boot to normal mode
Post that log and a HiJack log. Let me know if you need help with the hijack this app...doc

Hi

I have a problem with a friends computer which will not access certain websites, mainly BBC ones, news, weather etc. It also will not stream from a Spanish radio site, but will allow you to download.
The OS is XP and it occurs on any browser, and it started a few months ago for no apparent reason.

It will load the first page of the website then I get either unavailable/timed out or ?Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data? on Chrome

My laptop which has OS 7 works perfectly on the same network, both wirelessly and via Lan.

I have tried all the obvious things including system restore and even installing another XP OS on a disc partition, but still the same results.

Any ideas please?

A:Problems accessing some websites

Hi Merlin, and welcome to TSF.

I've seen quite a few similar issues recently and after trying all kinds of solutions it has sometimes been entries mysteriously added to the hosts file. Lets hope I get lucky again here.
To check the Hosts File press the Windows key + R
In the run box type notepad and press enter or click ok
On the file menu top of notepad window click open and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\Hosts Note; if you don't see anything in the etc folder change the bottom box from .txt to All files
This will open the Hosts file in notepad. Please copy and paste its contents here.

For the past week when I try to access my banking website, as well as parts of my university website and credit card websites, I get a message saying "The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.xxxx.com" I have tried using IE and Firefox, and the sites are not down because I can access them from other computers. Access to most websites continues unhindered. I ran a full virus scan with updated security files to no avail. Any suggestions?

You could post a log for us to review.
Click on this link: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe Double click on the file and it will install to C:\program files\hijackthis and create an entry in the start menu and an optional shortcut on desktop.

Close out any open browsers and launch the program.
Click on "Do a system scan and save a logfile.
The log will open in Notepad
Go to Edit,Select All, Edit, Copy
Come back to this thread
And press Ctrl+V to paste the log into the thread.

Hello all! So I have a friend that cannot access the internet. It is not a network stack issue, it was a user issue instead involving mucking up IE and deleting Chrome. There is or at least used to be a way to access a specific website I think from the help screen, but I cant seem to find it. It was like you pull up help (?) and in a drop down menu there was an option to go to a website, you type that site in and it will pull up. Does this ring any bells? Does anyone know how to do this? It may not even be a help screen.. its been years since I have done this. No the friend is not local so I cant just go over and install it.

A:Accessing websites without a browser

I haven't heard of that.

However you could install a browser on a USB.

Give it to him then he could install?

Hello, I installed the Windows 7 Release Candiate build 7100 yesterday and now when I try to access a website via Internet Explorer or Safari(the windows version) and Firefox I get a page time-out message.

I ran the Network Diagnostic tool and the message I get is "Windows could not automatically detect the networks proxy settings".

I am connected to the internet via Ethernet cable to my dsl modem. I restarted the modem, I restarted the computer several times.

The network says I have internet access, but it will not let me onto the internet.
My computer is a HP pavilion dv7-1020US.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I did try un-installing the driver for my ethernet adaptor. Also I am able to connect to the internet on my other computers with no problems.

A:Problem accessing websites!

Ok so update on my problem. I'm able to download windows updates and if I use the 64-bit version of Internet Explorere I'm able to get online.

I included a screenshot of what Internet Explorere non 64-bit says when I run the network diagnostic tool.

Edit: I uninstalled my virus and firewall programs I had, but it didnt help.

If somebody could please help that would be awesome!!

I'm having a strange problem with my main computer. I can log onto AOL and read my e-mail, but I can't open websites. I get a "navigation to the webpage was canceled" message. I've tried various remedies but nothing has worked. The connection is fine, the hardware is fine. I did recently discover a quirk, however...if I go to a saved link to a login page requesting a password, it not only opens that page, it allows me to continue to use that site once I've entered the password. I only have two such links, so there are two sites I can still access.

Any suggestions? I'd rather not have to wipe the thing and start over... Thanks!

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Are you using Norton Security?

Your security settings may be set to high, this can cause it not to open secure web sites. Also, winsock error, which can easily be fixed.

Quote:

If you have XP-SP2 or Vista, you should use the built-in repair for the WINSOCK and TCP/IP stack. If you have XP-SP1 or earlier (and any previous version of Windows), you should use the Automated WINSOCK Fix all Windows Versions. I've included all the resets here.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows Vista.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Windows XP-IE8-Dell Dimension 5150
Dear readers and Experts:

I am still using XP with Comodo Internet Security. For some reason 20% of "my favorites" can no longer be opened on my computer.

Either the website opens but the articles or links can not be accessed or I get a message stating that Internet Explorer can NOT open or access the website!

The sites exist!! Is this a problem with XP itself? IE8?, Cookies, or with Comodo settings?

I can access several of these sites using Chrome but not all.

Very frustrating,

A:Wireless internet not accessing some websites

Probably not the most helpful answer, but when Time Warner upgraded their broadband access in Syracuse, I had a Linksys router (not-wireless) that had a lot of trouble accessing a lot of pages. Yahoo would work for me, most pages wouldn't though. I replaced the router with a new Belkin Wireless unit and never had a problem again. I believe the old Linksys was simply unable to adapt to whatever adjustments Time Warner had implemented. How old is your router? Mine was probably 4 years old at the time, give or take a year.

Hey guys I'm working on my master thesis right now and I'm facing quite a complicated problem at least for me Maybe someone can help to solve it Accessing Macro Websites Excel via or least tell me if it is actually solvable I haven't found anything comparable in the topics database here I have an Excel file with more than a thousand links to websites in one column They always refer to kickstarter com could be for example this Accessing Websites via Excel Macro link click here I'll explain to you what I manually would need to do now I want to click each link in the Excel file visit the website check if there is a link somewhere slight problem there might be more than one link click this these link s and check if the these link s is are still active Then I want to make a note into the Excel file more precisely into the column next to the respective link which says either No link available on kickstarter com or Link s available but the respective website s is are inactive or Link s available and website s still active It doesn't matter if one or more more than one link is still active that would always be category Well actually I wouldn't write out the three options either just assign and to them But just so that you get the picture My question is now Is it possible to automate that in Excel oder in any other affordable software Stata for example would actually also work I have a license for that And if it is not possible can I at least automate to click the respective link in the Excel file and then check on this website if there is an URL at all Thanks a lot in advance Cheers Jonas So

What's keeping me from accessing websites like these. Is it a trojan? Malware? I remember I was recently infected but I removed the trojan with anti malware bytes.

Hello and welcome.  Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I’ve given you the “All clear.”  Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean! Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within five days this thread will be closed.   Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.Press Scan button. It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

I have a desktop running Windows bit Processors is AMD Phenom II X Processor GHz Starting earlier today I have had problems websites, Problem's with Firewall multiple possible accessing issue connecting to a multitude of different websites including Facebook Notalwaysright Okcupid National Geographic CNET and FilePlanet I have also been unable to connect to the League of Legends server I can get on their website but can not launch their client I tried uninstalling Problem's with accessing multiple websites, possible Firewall issue but can not reinstall it because of problems connecting to their server I can access most other webpages with no problems I've checked Problem's with accessing multiple websites, possible Firewall issue online and I read some Problem's with accessing multiple websites, possible Firewall issue article about Facebook Connect causing problems with some websites but there was very little information and not many people have shown problems like I have been I can access these webpages fine on my laptops that I have using the same wireless internet connection Currently there are issues I believe may be the culprits on my computer The first is a problem with the built in Windows Firewall I disabled parts of it sometime ago because I had other programs for it with this problem I tried going back in and looking at the network settings and found I can't access any options for it I attached a screenshot of my control panel options Feb It looks like that for every single menu option I choose and when I click Use Recommended Settings nothing happens When I click on Advanced Settings whats happens is shown in the second screenshot The second and most likely cause I think is an AVG update I did it last night and this morning is when I noticed this problem with connections I don't know what settings these options would be under but I've tried disabling AVG and the problem still remains Besides running virus scans with AVG and Malware Bytes Anti-Malware I've done disk cleanup and such

A:Problem's with accessing multiple websites, possible Firewall issue

The second and most likely cause I think is an AVG update.

Hi
I am having problems accessing certain websites. When I try to log onto www.avfcblog.com for example, I get the following: "internet explorer cannot display the web page". I used to be able to access this but haven't been able to in a while. I use a desktop computer with wireless broadband. Another person in our house uses the same wireless connection on a different laptop and can connect to www.avfcblog.com without any problems. Could this be a virus of some sort? I currently use AVG Free Anti-virus and Ad-Aware 2007.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thank you

Hello This is my first post here and it's quite a puzzling issue It's a long story so I'll try to summarize it as best as I can Basically the problem is that I can't access websites for the most part from my desktop PC connected wirelessly to my Comcast Wireless Gateway modem router combined but only when I'm on the second floor of my house My Wireless Gateway is located on the - issues internet Wireless websites problems accessing major first floor only about ten or so feet away from being directly underneath the office where my PC is located So it's basically only got one floor to get the signal through Now Windows shows my wireless signal as being really strong usually at least four if not five bars out of five Most of the time I try to open any website like cnn com facebook com etc the browser spins and spins trying to connect until it finally times out and says This webpage is not available for Chrome or the variant message for any of the other major browsers Occasionally I will be able to connect to a site maybe after rebooting but usually only one page will open and then I can't open any other pages after that There are some extremely odd contradictory behaviors and Wireless internet issues - major problems accessing websites other significant points surrounding Wireless internet issues - major problems accessing websites this issue that I will basically list for easy reference I brought my PC down to the first floor and connected directly to the Wireless Gateway WG via ethernet cable and internet worked great I then downloaded a few hundred MB worth of Windows updates since I had recently reinstalled Windows After confirming internet worked via ethernet I then unplugged the ethernet cable and attempted to connect via the WG with my PC only about two feet from the WG Again this worked great - my download upload speeds were just about as fast as when I was connected Wireless internet issues - major problems accessing websites via ethernet I was getting in the range of around - Mbps download and around - Mbps upload Thinking that the issue had been resolved I moved my PC back upstairs to the office turned it on but again the same problem presented itself - unable to access the internet via browsers Oddly enough when I would open the Command Prompt and pinged sites like google com npr org etc all four attempts completed quickly and successfully This was when I was still connected wirelessly from upstairs My work laptop and both my and my wife's Android phones can access the internet via wireless fine from the same location as my desktop PC Here are some other details and things I have tried so far My PC is a custom build that I put together myself for the first time Everything went surprisingly well as far as the setup and installation - I encountered zero problems through installing Windows and initially getting online The problem with my internet connection only manifested after I had somehow acquired malware on my PC I think from copying my wife's files who had previously had viruses but which I thought I had eliminated So after discovering the malware which was the browser hijack speedial com I then downloaded and ran several antimalware programs such as Malwarebytes Superantispyware RKiller Junkware Removal Tool etc I was able to clear most of the junk off my PC except for the add-on kept appearing in my Internet Explorer browser even though I kept removing it but it was not actively redirecting me as it was before After numerous scans with several antivirus programs it still appeared that I could not get rid of the final remnants so then I decided to reinstall Windows from the disc After the reinstall that is when I could no longer stay connected to the internet I was wondering if maybe something had infected my Master Boot Record and either deleted or altered settings however that doesn't seem to explain how I am able to connect via ethernet cable and wirelessly when right next to the WG Here are things I've tried s... A:Wireless internet issues - major problems accessing websites

I'm pretty embarrassed to say it, but my joy to express that I've solved this problem is overriding my embarrassment, and also I would feel bad if I checked again and someone had responded to my novel of a post, but the issue has been resolved.

The culprit:  A metal filing cabinet
I had placed a short metal filing cabinet next to my PC tower, in between my tower and my desk, in order to place my second monitor onto. Well, apparently even though it wasn't on the side that would be closest to the router, it was causing enough interference to nearly completely shut down my internet access. I can't believe it.

Hi, I have a problem accessing some secure sites requiring a username/ password like hotmail, msn, facebook & ebay. This problem occurs across all browsers: IE7 Firefox and Safari. I can browse other webpages fine.

I can access these websites using my laptop (windows XP) using the same wireless connection but they don't work when using my PC (windows vista).

I've had my PC for about a year now and it's the first time i've encountered such a problem.

I've looked up this problem everywhere and tried almost everything but haven't been able to resolve it. I've tried resetting/ changing my internet security settings, turning off my firewall, scanned my computer with a number of spyware removal programs.

tried pretty much everything on here:

A:HELP! Problem accessing secure websites (hotmail, ebay, facebook) across all browsers

Hi. . .

Nice link - I am a member at that site, but please disregard the "solutions" found therein.

Please run a Vista System Health report in HTML format:
START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select Run as Administrator | the black cmd prompt (DOS) screen will appear - type the following:

Code:
perfmon /report
It will take about a minute to run... then save it as an HTML file - you will see the default HTML file extension when you go to save it.

Please zip it up and attach to your next post.

What anti-virus are you running and do you have a 3rd party firewall? Do you use the Windows Firewall?

In the interim, do this as a test:
START | type Internet into the start search box | look up top under Programs and select Internet Explorer (no add-ons).

Can you reach those sites now?

A:HELP! Problem accessing secure websites (hotmail, ebay, facebook) across all browsers

Hello, powercosmic
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

We need to create an OTViewIt ReportPlease download OTViewIt by OldTimer.
Save it to your desktop.
Double click on the icon on your desktop.
Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
Push the button.
Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:OTViewIt.txt <-- Will be opened
Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized

We need to scan for rootkits with GMERPlease download gmer.zip and save to your desktop.alternate download site 1
alternate download site 2

Unzip/extract the file to its own folder. (Click here for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 2000 users click here.)
When you have done this, disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
Note: There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
Double-click on Gmer.exe to start the program.
Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan...click NO.
Click on "Settings", then check the first five settings:System Protection and Tracing
Processes
Save created processes to the log
Drivers
Save loaded drivers to the log

You will be prompted to restart your computer. Please do so.
Run Gmer again and click on the Rootkit tab.
Look at the right hand side (under Files) and uncheck all drives with the exception of your C drive.
Make sure all other boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for "Show All".
Important! Please do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.
Click on the "Scan" and wait for the scan to finish.Note: Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan.

When completed, click on the Copy button and right-click on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and right-click again and choose Paste or Ctrl+V. Save the file as gmer.txt and copy the information in your next reply.
Note: If you have any problems, try running GMER in Safe Mode

In your next reply, please include the following:OTViewIt.txt
Extra.txt
GMER's Log

Hey everyone,
I'm a new member... and I reeeaalllyyy need your help. My parents just got me a new laptop and it has Windows 7 on it. I'm entirely at a loss when it comes to this system... so I figured this forum looked promising. I'm having trouble accessing just this ONE website. Everytime I type in the address or even when I access it through google search, I always get a message concerning the connectivity or "broken link". I had a few friends trying going on it and they don't have this problem.

If I can get any suggestions at all that can help me out, I'll thank you all very much!

A:Trouble accessing a website

Welcome!

What site are you trying to access? Could it be blocked by your router?

I can access all websites but disneyshopping.com. Everytime I click on something on the website I just keep going back to the home page. I have tried other sites with no problems. I Have deleted all my cookies and temp internet folders like they suggested. I am still not able to shop on that site. Can someone please help?

A:Trouble accessing website

Well maybe try this. Tools>options>trusted sites>sites and add it. Or

Tools>options>security >local intranet and set to medium.

I have a Dell desktop with wifi. It can see the AP (very strong signal), but it cannot access the internet ("limited conductivity"). I tried cycling power on the modem and AP which helped temporarily. Reboot does nothing. There are 3 other notebooks that have full access to the internet thru wifi to the same AP and cable modem.

The Dell has Vista op sys, and I've run thru all the diagnostics with no real solution. This pc normally uses a wired connection with no problem.

What should I look at to get this going?

Thx

This is kind of an odd problem and I've tried looking for a solution online but I'm not quite sure how to search.

Basically my computers a couple of years old and I've never had any problems like this with it before, I run XP home with SP 1.

I have a cd writer, and a dvd drive, and I just noticed today that I cannot access either of them. When I went into my hardware profile/device manager
not only are the specific drives not listed I have no general entrie for CD/DVD drives, so I can't even try to reinstall them.

Anyone ever had a similar problem or know where I can look for a solution?

Thanks!

So I have been having a bit a problem gaining access to my internet on my pc(xp) since August 15. The pc is connected to the modem and router, my couzins laptop does have internet which im using to write this and so does my gameing system but not my pc. Everytime i open up internet explorer it will work for the home page but later stop and wont be able to display the web page this even happens on the homepage. I also think that maybe something may be blocking my internet.

I also get this window everytime I turn on my computor and its done loading.

My server (an older desktop) was running Win 7 Pro. However, a couple of media players I own would only access shares in Win XP. So, I decided to install XP on the server. However, I can't access the old shared folders (even though it's a local hard drive) from XP. Very confusing.

Since last night, I've been having trouble accessing Google and Gmail. At times it will load and then it will display an error message saying the connection was reset. This happens in both Firefox and IE8 and also on my Mac. This also only happens at night (both Google and Gmail work fine during the day). All other websites work fine.

I've restarted my computer, cleared my cache, and reset the modem but nothing seems to be working. I use Windows 7 and my internet provider is HughesNet.

i cant seem to access any of the microsoft sites from my computer (hotmail, microsoft.com, msn, etc) nor anything off of yahoo. i can go to yahoo.com but none of the links work, i click them and i get a blank page. this is also true for several other sites. i have reinstalled my computer already and called microsoft tech support. they claim it to be a spyware issue, but im pretty sure my computer is clean. i dont have any firewalls or blockers of that sort. my dad's laptop though, can access those sites from our connection, but my mom's laptop seems to suffer from the same problem. could someone attempt to troubleshoot this?

It could be some sort of malware.
First thing to try is accessing the site in Internet Explorer. Then you need to make sure your computer is free of viruses!

I friend of mine recently removed some maleware from my computer (he is much more computer savy that I). However, after removing the maleware I am having problems with loging into sites where I have a password using both IE or Firefox. For intance, I can pull up the webpage for my bank, but I get an IE error message "page cannot be displayed" when I try to click through to my account (this is the same for my airline and school web accounts) or a Firefox error message "The connection was refused when trying to access...". I also have trouble with accessing pages where I need to download - such as Microsoft.com and downloading service pack SP2 - express install - it gives me [Error number: 0x8024502D].

I tried accessing my HD [with xp on it] from my dead desktop through a usb interface to my laptop. got access, then tried to start xp through usb but it failed. tried to get into win 7 boot menu to change to dual boot, had to change permissions but it still failed. tried to reverse permissions but got many error messages, canceled and then restarted computer, would not start. used a win 7 disc to get into restore and restored to this morning before O did anything to computer. Now I cannot access device manager and many other programs get error message "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
tried to install speedy but got error message "shellexecuteex failed; code 5.

any help would be appreciated.

A:trouble accessing services

I would recommend you download D7 (download link near bottom of page), and once open navigate to "Maintenance" and find "Repair Permissions" (Edit: they keep updating this program and mine is out of date, "repair permissions" might be under another section by now, just look around). That takes a long time to run but should be successful in resetting all your permissions the way they should be.

Also note: You cannot boot Windows using a different computer than it was installed on. Whenever you change the motherboard or the CPU it is necessary to re-install Windows. You should still be able to retrieve all your files as necessary, however. Also note that in the future attempting to boot to a USB device should probably be done by using the BIOS's Boot Menu rather than configuring Windows Boot Manager.

I'm trying to go on to http://www.guitarshredshow.com, but when I try, I receive the typical "operation timed out" error, BUT the site background, title, and little URL-window-icon show up. this is probably because the site's an Angelfire domain and i can never get on those, i think because i live in China and either China has banned, or has been banned by Angelfire. so anyway, is there any way i can access this site? i've tried using proxify but that didn't work. any help will be much appreciated, thanks!

A:Having trouble accessing a site..

sorry, would have edited but i took too long - i've confirmed that angelfire is indeed banned by china's great firewall, so now my question is if there's any way to access the site through the national firewall? OR if some kind, knowledgeable soul would mind saving the flash app on the website and mailing it to me at superdigg-at-gmail.com?

When I click on the windows defender icon I am prompted with this pop up (see attachment). It says to contact the administrator, but I am the administrator. I am having similar problems when deleting programs. Hopefully what ever the solution to this problem is will fix my other problems.

Hi kreed614,
Let us try to uninstall a program in safe mode with networking and check if it wokrs. Please refer following link to get into safe mode with networking: Safe Mode

In order to uninstall a program in Safe mode, we need to install SafeMSI. Use the following link to download and install SafeMSI: JSI Tip 9233. SafeMSI.exe freeware starts Windows Installer in Safe Mode.
Now, try to uninstall any program now.

Also, we can run a scan on the computer to check for virus or spyware. Restart the computer to normal mode. Refer the link to download Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.
Microsoft Security Essentials: |MG| Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 4.1.0522.0 Download
Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer
Download and install the programs, Run a complete scan using both the software?s.

Refer following link for more information: this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in affect on - Microsoft Community

Kindly let me know the results.

Whenever my computer updates itself, I have problems accessing the internet. Specifically... whenever I open Firefox or Internet explorer, I can access the internet for a very limited time, then nothing. For example, I can visit one, maybe two pages, then I can't access anything, until I restart the computer. To solve this problem, I have to do a system restore.... if I restore my system to a point to say, 2 - 4 weeks earlier, the problem goes away. But I don't think this will work forever. Any advice will be appreciate. Thanks.

A:Trouble accessing internet after updates

There is an underlying issue here. Is your Windows legit? Run a scan with MBAM. Is your hosts file clean? Run a scan iwth Kaspersky TDSS Killer, run the System File Checker.

I'm running windows xp professional, and I've been having trouble accessing web-based email services (hotmail, yahoomail, and also a private microsoft exchange server web interface) from my computer. I've tried using both firefox and internet explorer. When attempting to load my hotmail or yahoo inbox in ie, the page simply never loads. When I try in Firefox, I get an error message that reads "the document contains no data." I am able to access my inbox at the exchange server, but am unable to send emails.

I also can't access my online banking (fleet.com), and have had trouble posting to some tech support forums. I thought it was a problem with secure sites, but I am able to access some secure sites.

All of these services are fully available from a friend's computer running on the same internet connection, through the same router, so it's a problem specific to my machine. Any help?

Any chance you have a Linksys BEFSX41 (Or whatever with the firewall), and just updated the Firmware? The Linksys 1.51 firmware WON'T WORK with DSL. You need to go back to 1.45 - OR disable the firewall in 1.51's firmware (that sure is stupid!!!).

This is a known Linksys issue. If you are not using a Linksys - I have no clue...

When I try accessing a spreadsheet via its short cut I get 3 error messages before some spreadsheets will load. Example.
First try I get "C:\documents.xls could not find spreadsheet"

Second try I get "and.xls could not find spreadsheet"

Third try I get "settings\dad\desktop\2007ACC.xls could not find spreadsheet"

Forth try I finally get the spreadsheet sometimes.

These error messages come up on every spreedsheet. In some I can't access the spreadsheet at all.

Someone had the solution but I lost it and can't seem to find it again.

Any help will be much appreciated.
