Wireless connection on desktop PC always disconnects

Q: Wireless connection on desktop PC always disconnects

I have Vista home premium on my desktop PC and connect to a D-Link DSL-G604T modem router using a Linksys wireless-g PCI adapter. Some of the time, the PC will connect to the network but if it does, it usually drops out after 5 minutes and then I can't connect again. I get many different error messages each time:

Your modem or router is not available
Cannot communicate with DNS server (10.1.1.1)
There might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer
Windows has confirmed that this computer is currently experiencing a network connectivity problem
Connection Interupted
There has been an IP address conflict

My laptop can connect to to the modem fine and doesn't drop out when connected and there connection strength is very good from my desktop when it is connected.

Thanks in advance,
Kieren

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello kieren1992,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

I would suggest you re-install the driver for your wireless adapter.

I have a desktop in the basement of my house and we use a wireless internet connection. It worked fine forever, but then one night the power went out and now it disconnects all the time. I have no idea about computers what so ever. I know we have a modem that connects to a router and then theres little thing by the computer with 2 lights on it and when the lights go out the internet shuts off, it says d-link on that thing. And the computer is a dell. But I have no clue where to begin so if someone could give me some advice in like baby computer talk that'd be greatly appriciated

A:Wireless connection disconnects

I do not see anything that sticks out from the HiJackThis log.

I see this problem often. There seems to be many causes for this. I know that often Linksys routers will overheat--my advice is to make sure it isn't on top of your modem or anything that might provide excess heat.

Further, I would be most interested in the wireless network card. Have you made sure you have updates for it?

Also, have you tried running something like an streaming-audio player (i.e., iTunes) on some internet radio show to see if it keeps the connection active. Another idea would (if you have a Wireless G [WRT54G] router) be to turn on the logging feature to see when the connection drops and why.

Most likely, it will be something with the network card. But, there are other settings on those Linksys routers (like Beacon Interval) that can be modified to get it to work...

This may be the same issue as "Unable to browse websites, but can still ping." My laptop is new (Vaio - Windows Vista Home Premium) with nothing extra installed on it yet. If I connect to our linksys wirelessly I can then browse for a while, but ultimatly web pages will stop loading (or refreshing). "A while" can be anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours. When the "lockup" occurs the diagnostics cant find anything particularly wrong. Everything looks normal in the "Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Center." If I wait in this state long enough the router <-> internet link eventually "breaks." Either way (wait or not) if I disconnect and reconnect to the network I am up and running again ... for 10 minutes to 3 hours. Reconnecting once per evening is a minor irritation. Every 10 minutes is unusable.

Any thoughs

This might be out on a limb here....need to know a little more about your network configuration. My initial suggestion would be to connect your pc with a cable to the router and perform windows updates. Originally I've found network related issues with Vista and after a few updates the problems were resolved.
And I'm sorry...I don't run a vista machine...I've worked on plenty...but I couldn't tell you from the top of my head where the windows update feature is located...maybe start icon...all programs still...
But try the updates and repost with your network configuration...it would be helpful...
Numer of PC's
Internet Provider
Router Model

Thanks!

I've just successful LAN RDP Wireless connection after disconnects seen a few threads about similar problems but nothing precisely the same and nothing I've found solves my issue I've got a laptop Toshiba Satellite running Windows Wireless LAN disconnects just after successful RDP connection Professional -bit I'm trying to connect to the laptop from another machine via RDP but the connection dies every time This is what happens I log into the laptop which then connects to the wireless network I initiate the RDP connection from the other machine The connection is successfully made I see the quot Welcome quot window then the Wireless LAN disconnects just after successful RDP connection RDP screen goes black At the same time just as the screen goes back on the RDP client the screen on my laptop locks goes back to the login screen and the network monitor icon quot Toshiba Wireless LAN Indicator quot shows that the wireless connection is down - no network connection available After a few seconds to I get a message on the client that the connection couldn't be made From this I'm gathering that my firewall is set up to allow incoming connections properly I also verified this manually and I can see that the initial connection is being made My best guess is that the wireless connection is being killed when the RDP session is started Is there a way to prevent the network connection from being reset or whatever's happening when connecting via RDP I've noticed that my laptop doesn't connect to wifi until after I've logged in Is this the likely culprit If so is there a way to change this so the computer will connect to the wireless network before I've actually logged in For what it's worth I get the same behavior regardless of the client machine being used Win Enterprise Win Home Premium Linux etc Any help would be greatly appreciated -Peter

A:Wireless LAN disconnects just after successful RDP connection

Murphy's Law is alive and well. Not even an hour after posting this thread I found the answer myself. The issue was that my network connection was set to be available to myself only. Apparently this is the default setting, so I deleted and manually recreated the network connection so it's now available to all users and my RDP connection is just fine!

To give credit where credit is due, here's where I found the answer:

Wireless before Login

Hopefully this will help someone else in the future.

I saw reconnect Wireless IP. network get won't connection and disconnects, this thread http www bleepingcomputer com forums t wireless-connection-stuck-on-acquiring-network-addressforever First I Wireless network connection disconnects, won't reconnect and get IP. want to say that I don't think there was ever a malware problem on this machine a Lenovo R It worked ok for a long time but a year or so ago it started disconnecting from the wireless network It would say connected and acquiring network address but it never completed I did a network tcp ip reset on it that didn't change anything I got another identical wifi bluetooth card and changed it no difference A few days ago it was working then stopped with the acquiring network address and as a test I gave it a static IP on the local network and it connected It worked until I shut down Today I booted up same static IP configured and it worked OK for about an hour Then it stopped working and said acquiring network address even though it had a static number configured I checked Very odd So something is amiss here More than meets the eye I started reading threads including the one I referenced above I compared some of the regedits that were recommended then but nothing really stood out I did notice that even though the Remote Procedure Call RPC Service is marked as started and automatic the start stop buttons are grayed I could not determine for sure that it's running or not but I admit I don't know that it needs to be running Admittedly this is an odd one It could be a hardware problem on the motherboard but I can't find any evidence of that Any ideas

A:Wireless Internet Connection Disconnects Intermittently

The ipconfig /all shows an apparently good connection to a wireless router or access point.

When these disconnects happen do the devices maintain communication with the router and with each other?

What do the LEDs on the router tell you?

Do you have a separate modem? If so, what do its LEDs tell you?

Does the router belong to you or to the place you moved into? It mite be some form of mac filtering on the router itself, which prevents devices from connecting to the router without permission

A:Belkin N150 router disconnects my remote desktop connection

Make sure you have the latest router firmware; then reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it. (If you already have done both of these in this order you need not do them again.)

When you get a disconnect do the router (or modem) LEDs give any hint of whether the disconnect is between modem and router or between router and computer?

Consider that either of the ethernet cables may be defective.

I have my PC and PS3 wired to a netgear router and a laptop connected wirelessly.

The laptop for some reason loses it's connection randomly and loses it's connection in 2 minute to 20 minute intervals. I sometimes have to manually reconnect to my router by searching for it and reconnecting in the Network and Sharing Center.

No idea why it's started happening now, I reset the router to factory settings recently because of the same problem a couple of days ago and it's still happening. The PC and PS3 work fine, just the wireless keeps dropping. Using Vista and I don't think it's the laptop as it can constantly see my neighbours connections, only my router is occasionally disappearing.

Any help is much appreciated.

I think you are having problems with user running wireless internet at home.
Whoever is having the problem ask them if they can use cable connection instead.

I just got a new laptop and usually connected through a wireless connection. I have recently started using remote desktop connection. I have connected twice successfully. Both times it was when I was connected through a Cad-5. Once at a friends house and another at my families place. I have never connected while the laptop has been wireless. Do I need to do something different to connect remotely when I am using the laptop wirelesslly?

A:Remote Desktop Connection With Wireless Connection

Nope.
Cat-5 or Wireless is still a LAN, and the RDP(RDC) does not see it as any different, it may just be a little slower.

I have a windows xp 64 bit desktop connected to a modum. I installed a linksys wireless router to a vista desktop 32 bit, securely, and everything was working great for days. I went to turn the vista desktop on and was not getting a network connection. I did some diagnostic testing and everything seems to be working properly. I checked all the connections, rebooted, and I don't know what to do.
Waiting patiently for a response,

I'm putting togeather a computer for my daughter and will need to get her connected to the Internet. Her computer will be upstairs in her bedroom. I'm just alittle confused on what I should buy.

The Wireless Router (Which is downstairs) is a NetGear MR814v2

I went to Netgears website and they list THIS as being compatable with the router.

But I see THIS on ebay and am wondering if it would be a better buy and if it would work?

Computer-> AMD 500, 380 sdram, 2gig segate, 64meg nvidia, FIC - PA-2013 MB.

This manual just say's USB no version number but it's probably the first version.

Any Tips?
Thanks

I have a 64-bit system and my wireless network 4 connection says "not connected" and my local area connection says "not connected". I have researched every possible solution to this problem. I have:

-Switched out my wireless card for someone else's
-Plugged in an ethernet cable
-Gone to cdm and tried to release and renew
-Gone to "Properties" to use my computer's manual IP address (For some reason my cdm did not list a default gateway)
-I have tried to enable my ip routing

My laptop connects just fine to my universities wireless. This problem did not arise until a few days ago.

I am running windows 7 on a gateway FX desktop and I don't know what else to do to fix this problem

Seeing as my bedroom is next door to the Router's room, and my laptop picks up the Router from all the way down the street, I can't see that the range of the router is the problem.

The adapter is a TP-Link TL-WN851N, 300mpbs. It's supposed to be state-of-the-art with an awesome range. Apparently not. The Desktop only picks up the router when I turn it the other way around, but this only gives me a signal of 2 bars, and won't let me access any of my online games (eg. COD4, SWG).

I'm operating Windows 7 on this computer, so I'm wondering if that's the source of my issue. Router is a Belkin 54g, as I said... my laptop makes this computer look like I've just recovered it from the junkpile.

Please help me to solve this issue!

Hi and welcome.

Have you tried relocating the desktop?
Is it on the floor?
Under a desk?
Also being the antennas are in the rear near all the wires may be limiting the signal. Are you using both antennas?
Have you tried adjusting the antennas at different angles?
I'd just first try raising your box up a little to see if that helps.

I'm also guessing that the card is working properly with the latets drivers and network setup.

I have a dell desktop with the fallowing system specs:

Micosoft XP Pro 2002 version with Service Pack 2 on a Dell Optiplex 160L with an Intel Celeron CPU 2.0 GHz, 256 MB of RAM.

Since purchasing the unit, I purchased and installed a Lynsys wireless card to connect to my DSL via a Lynksys wirless router. When I first installed it, there was no issues for the first year or so. In the past month or two, the card will first connect at a good connection signal. In the course of an hour or so, the signal will tapper off and disappear regardless of whether or not we are actively working on the computer. This will force me to reconnect with the same result (it just being one continuous cycle).

Is my wireless card bad? Have there been any windows or lynksys updates recently that may have changed? Anyone with a worth-while thought (please no shots in the dark)?

Hello all!

So, I've done this in the past but I can't seem to get the magic configuration down correctly in order to get this done.

My setup is: I live in a two family house, I have a laptop upstairs which uses my friend's wireless network downstairs.

I also have a desktop PC that has no connection so I would like to use the laptop's ICS functionality in order to use the desktop from time to time.

I have the laptop, an Ethernet cable and a good, working wireless connection.

How do I achieve this?

Thanks!

A:Desktop wireless connection - USB adapter not working? :(

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi, I hope you guys can help me! I just brought home an older desktop and my wireless connection seems to disconnect about every 30 seconds to a minute, then reconnects.

The only other devices that we are using wirelessly are our phones, which we never notice a problem with. When it is connected, the signal stength is excellent. It just keeps dropping. Speed 72.0 mbps.

I am using a Linksys E-1200 wireless N router, and a Belkin N150 USB adapter.

My labtop just broke and i set up my old desktop computer. It has the antenna installed in the back and i also have the usb key to connect to the internet. I have installed the software for the usb key and somehow the computer will not seem to connect to the internet. The computer can't even find any wireless connections in the house (although i know it is working as other family members are using the connection)
I would prefer to use the usb connection but everytime it TRIES to connect (but fails) it seems to be trying to use the antenna.
I have gone to "set up a wireless network" and gone through the setup but it fails after the third step and says it can't be done.
Somebody please help! I have tried everything!

A:windows xp wireless desktop connection problem

Hi ejparisian

If you would like to connect using the USB wireless device, disable the older PCI wireless device:
1) Right-click My Computer
2) Select Properties
3) Select Hardware
4) Select Device Manager
5) Click on the plus (+) sign in front of "Network Adapters"
6) Right-click on the older PCI wireless adapter
7) Select Disable

The older PCI wireless adapter should then show a red "flag" in Device Manager, showing that it is disabled. Now try connecting using the USB device again.

Should you still have problems connecting:
Many USB wireless adapters have a little program that helps manage setup and connections. If you have trouble connecting using a program that came with the adapter, you also have the option of disabling or removing that software, and letting the Windows "Wireless Zero Configuration Service" handle the duties of managing wireless connections. After removing the connection software from the older PCI adapter, make sure that the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration service is set to Automatic, and is running. [You can do this in Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services ... right-click on Wireless Zero Configuration, and select Properties -- make your changes there].

Make sure that your adapter matches the type needed by your wireless network (probably 802.11b/g compatible). If you have an older "b" USB adapter, your wireless routing device for your network needs to have "b" connections enabled [If it is set to "g-only", "b" devices cannot connect].

Assuming that your wireless network has some form of security setup, you'll also want to ensure that your USB wireless adapter tries to connect using the correct level of encryption & the exact password.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

P.S. ... one quick-fix try for finicky wireless connections is to right-click your wireless icon in the system tray & select "Repair".

A:Wireless Desktop Card Installed no connection

Some things you can try here.
For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

Hello,

I have just changed service provider and got a new Technicolor TG582n router. The wireless connection with my laptop is simple and straightforward, but it doesn't do the same with my desktop. After “acquiring network address” for a while, it did connect but with “limited or no connectivity”. My desktop connected to a Belkin54g before. What cause the problem and how do I resolve it?

Thanks for help.

Guys I am trying to fix my recent problem on my home network I have a desktop connected to a Linksys WRT G router via an ethernet cable connection??? terminates wireless connecting Desktop Also I am running two-three notebooks wirelessly Wirelessly Desktop connecting terminates wireless connection??? I am running a WEP bit encryption with one network key which I specified myself and a MAC Desktop connecting terminates wireless connection??? address filter allow only specified wireless NIC cards The router acquires an IP address from the cable modem receives DNS addresses and gateways The router then assigns via DHCP the IP addresses to all computers I used three laptops on the network without any problems I get decent data transfer rates etc But once I fire up my desktop all other connections are severed all laptops suddenly lose internet connectivity wireless signal is still intact though and my desktop takes FOREVER even to start ONE page Once I shut off the desktop everything seems to be back to normal Does anyone have any unusual ideas I am going to try switching to a different LAN port on the back of my router But then I am officially out of ideas Any help is appreciated thanks nbsp

A:Desktop connecting terminates wireless connection???

If different LAN port (may as well try them all) makes no difference, try a different cable.

If that makes no difference, try a different computer--that is, if one of your laptops has an ethernet port, try that hard wired instead of the desktop.

Ok, this is a long shot so don't rack your brains too hard over this.

I've got a wireless router on the second floor of the house. My bedroom has been moved to the basement. In the basement are two computers, a laptop and a desktop. There is no cat5 in the basement yet to get the desktop on the network.

My question is this, can I share the wireless connection of the laptop and run a short cable from the laptop to the desktop to share the internet connection?

Let me know, thanks in advance!

A:Laptop's wireless connection shared with a desktop.

I'd just spend 40 bucks on a wireless card for the desktop, but a crossover cable-ethernet to ethernet- and a network bridge on the laptop might work. I've never tried to 'piggyback' off a wireless connection, but I don't see why you couldn't.

That said, greater minds than mine may see why you couldn't...I'd hang around for more input.

A:desktop to LAPTOP connection wireless problem

Well, the first thing you need is a wireless broadband router. Next, you need to determine if your desktop has wireless capability, my guess is no. Is there any reason you don't want to connect the desktop with a wired connection, it's much more reliable and will be required for initial configuration of the router anyway.

I recently installed a remote desktop app on my iPhone and, though the app works perfectly, I have a problem when I disconnect - the wireless connection on my notebook stops working. I can't pull up my browser, my mail notifier, or even access the router. If I Disable/Enable the connection, it starts working again, but I'm not sure why it stops connecting in the first place. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I really like being able to use RDP, but if it's going to kick my system off the network when I'm done, I don't know if it's worth it.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 and Windows XP Media Center SP 3. I'm using Windows to manage my wireless connections, and the app I'm using is MochaSoft RDP Lite. Hopefully that's all the pertinent information.

I'm currently getting wireless internet from my neighbor with my laptop.

My objective is to share this wireless internet through my Linksys Wireless Router Via connected Ethernet port to my desktop which is also connected via Ethernet to the router.

It looks like this:

(Wireless AP >>> Laptop):----:Linksys Router:----esktop Computer

The problem here is getting internet from my laptop to my desktop.

Ive tried a few things on my router but they failed and also just connecting everything together also fails.

So how do I go about this? All help is welcome.

HI all,

I need help to undertand if is possibile resolve this possible issue.

I have an ACER Revo 3610r, Atom 530 processor, I'm using it with a wireless Enermax Aurora micro keyboard (with trackball included).

I would use RDP from my work pc
Unfortunately after I've taken the control from my work pc I'm not able to use the wireless keyboard on the host (Acer revo ) so I've to restart with the shutdown /R command.

I have tried to use a wired mouse and all works fine so I think the problem is a bios or windows issue.

Can anyone suggest me a way to resolve this problem?

Thank you very much

I've recently switched to using the Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card F5D7000 and I am experiencing quite regular connection drop outs (More frequently when downloading).

I am using the BT Home hub and I have updated the Firmware and have updated the Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card's drivers numerous times.

I have Tried to disable and enable the WZC option and I am still suffering from this problem.

The only way I can gain connection again is to repair the connection or reboot my computer.

I don't have a clue what I'm doing when it comes to networking so all help would be extremely appreciated.

Are there any other drivers I could download for this card which may fix this problem? It seems to me that the Belkin drivers aren't that great.

So i recently got Dell XPS 9530 with windows 8.1. The problem is that whenever I plug in my Android device (I have tried Sony Xperia, HTC One M8, Samsung S6) it keeps disconnecting. The problem exist with BlackBerry Classic, Passport and even Z10.

The problem persists even with harddisks though the connection drop doesn't happen that frequently but it happens.

I have tried updating my drivers, different cables and what not, but the connection isn't consistent. I have got my laptop's motherboard replaced twice, got my laptop replaced once and the problem is still there.

Anyways, If you guys have any thoughts or been there done that then let me know.

Appreciate your help.

One with wired ethernet, (notebook) with 802.11g, desktop with 802.11g. I have a WRT54G linksys router.
The laptop seems to "forget" its settings, and i have to reset, renew, and enable etc..... each time it starts up. It is running windows ME. Recently, both PCs on the WLAN reported "Not able to associate with access point". I did a hard reset on the cable modem and router. The laptop reported "connected to access point, but internet access could not be found", but the internet did work. On the other PC, i noticed that the laptop would only work if the PC had an automatically configured IP address. Now, finally after a lot of guesswork, and a lot of time, both PCs work. But I am sure after I restart the laptop, it will lose connection again...
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi. I am having frequent disconnects from my Belkin G plus MIMO router. they occur at random times, sometimes more frequent then others. When plugged directly in, there are no problems, however when plugged into the router or wirelessly connected, disconnects range from every few seconds to every 5-8 minutes. There seems to be no pattern to disconnects. Our previous routers, a D-link and a linksys also had the same problems. I have tested this with multiple computers, a Gateway, a Sony, a Dell, and an Alienware, all with similar results.

A:Wireless disconnects when on LAN

This is how Windows 7 works, by default "at least for me" it will choose the LAN connection over the wireless when ever it's available. Or I should say it will choose the faster connection or the one with the lowest metric value which is usually the LAN connection but can also be the wireless connection.

I think you meant to say advanced option of changing the metric, the link below may help you to change the metric so you can change this behavior.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 that's about 6 years old and recently I have been experiencing a problem where my internet connection will randomly disconnect. It almost always can be brought back by unplugging and reconnecting the ethernet cable in the back of my computer, or by unplugging it from the wall and reconnecting it. (Since my computer is on the second floor and the router and the modem are on the 1st floor, we run the cable from the router through the wall and to the 2nd floor). It also can be resolved by resetting the modem and router.

Anyway, I have had this problem a few times before, but they seemed to just go away, but it has resurfaced once again. Does anybody have any ideas of what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance!

I noticed this when it started taking about 5 minutes for me to connect to Starcraft 2 and then when the internet would have to reconnect to my network. What could all of a sudden cause my internet to be so slow?

Long time with this issue and very frustrated My laptop is a Dell XPS running Windows -bit I just upgraded from Windows hoping that would solve my issue but it did not I even re-imaged my PC and the issue remained so I think it must be hardware related right My problem is that my ethernet connection via the USB gigabit adapter randomly disconnects The only way to re-establish the connection is to reboot When Ethernet 3.0 disconnects connection USB on randomly I reboot it takes about minutes before my login screen appears and I can get back to work I have worked with Dell Premium support and they have not been able to find the cause I have updated all my drivers multiple times I have tried adapters with different chip sets and the issue remains I have tried disconnecting my USB Ethernet connection on USB 3.0 randomly disconnects devices and only use the ethernet adapter and the issue remains I have tried disabling suspecting plug-ins and add-ins and can't find anything that resolves the issue I have tried using the event log to trace what may be happening and can't find anything useful I'm not totally clear on what to look for however Can anyone offer some guidance on how to troubleshoot this issue more effectively

Hi,

I am having a big problem with my internet connection. I connect to the internet through a VPN connection to my university. However, each time I see a video on youtube (or elsewhere), listen streamed music or even talk using Skype, my internet connection disconnects immediately.

I have had this problem with Windows Vista, and now that I have installed Windows 7 the problem is still the same.

So for every kind of streaming my internet connection (through VPN) almost immediately disconnects.

Any hints about this ?

Thanks

A:Internet Connection disconnects when streaming (VPN)

did you contact your university help desk? Its possible they have it set to only allow certain types of traffic to pass. Another thing is dropped packets. If you drop too many packet its possible the vpn will drop and since streaming might be using potentially large amounts of bandwidth...

The last few weeks, if I am reading an article on yahoo that takes longer than two minutes, or click to read e-mail, then try to click back to Yahoo, or any of my favorites, the computer takes no action after it says "connecting to whatever" and locks up. Trying to go elsewhere, nothing will appear on the page but the "connecting to" at the bottom. Usually a restart is the only thing that will get it functioning again. Before this started, I made the mistake of trying IE 8. It slowed the computer to a crawl, so I removed it using Revo, and reinstalled the previous one, which seems to work except for this disconnect.

I have a new laptop with a built in 802.11G adapter. It connects to my router, but then disconnects periodically, sometimes it reconnects right away, other times I have to turn the wireless adapter off and back on before it reconnects. Any advice would be helpful. Is it possible it has something to do with SP2 as this is the first time I've ever used it and this is the first time I'm having problems.

A:Wireless disconnects constantly.

SP2 and the wireless adapters built in connection utility on alot of models do not play nice so usually you have to pick one or the other to use. As well you will probably want to check the channel your on as something else may be causing interferance. Have you tried your laptop in other wirelesas areas? You may want to do that to have piece of mind that your card and configuration of your laptop is working properly.

HI ZxFox ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Initially try to maximize the power utilization of the WLAN card,
Go to device manager and oprn network adapters as this would show the WLAN card.
Right click for properties and from Power management tab , uncheck box for "allow device to save power" .
Go to advance tan and place any roaming aggressiveness / tendency to highest .

Update us how it goes.

I have recently upgraded from XP for Win7. In my househouse we have 1 wired computer and several wired devices along with several wireless devices and 2 wireless computers. The issue seems to be that when the two wireless computers are accessing the network at the same time, they both will disconnect constantly and share a slow speed.

The touchpad (wireless pc 1) was working fine before and I was able to access the internet fine before on my desktop (wireless pc 2) when running XP. Since upgrading there seems to be some issue whereas the computers are recognizing each other on the network and causing some type of network flaw. Im completely at a loss as to what is causing this and have investigated the issue at lengths using google searches - this is my first forum post and any help would be much appreciated.

A:Wireless disconnects frequently...

Have you tried changing the wireless channel to one that isn't being used by your neighbors?
Windows 7 wireless networks are more picky about over crowded channels than XP and will disconnect if the channel is overloaded. You can change the wireless channel in your routers set up page. You should also change to WPA-2 with AES encryption if you aren't doing that already.

In general, channels 1, 6 and 11 are the best channels to use.

The Xirrus wifi inspector software will help you figure out which channels are the least crowded in your area.

I had a problem a while back where the only way I could connect to my router was to manually reset the router (the wireless adapter recognized the network, but would give errors in connecting until I did the reset). After a while, that went away - I don't know how, it just stopped. Now I have a new problem. Every few minutes or seconds while connected my connection will just drop. It will still "say" that the computer is connected with internet access, and five bars signal, but I won't be able to open any web pages, and I get disconnected from teamspeak/IMs, and my latency in online games will go through the roof (as in, 6000+ ms). Also, for whatever reason over the past week my network connections went from:

Wireless Network Connection ---> Wireless Network connection 10

and

the microsoft miniport became wireless network connection 11
I have an ASUS 802.11n wireless LAN card, which is known in device manager as "ASUS 802.11n Wireless LAN Card #2", whereas it used to just be "ASUS 802.11n Wireless LAN Card".

What should I do?

Edit: Also, I can't rename the connection, it gives me an error saying that a connection with that name already exists (When trying to just revert it back to "Wireless Network Connection")

If you have more than one driver installed (you have 10-11) all sorts of borkedness occurs.

Please open device manger>wifi>properties and check how many are listed.

I have set up a small wireless network, with two notebooks using wireless dongles. It all works well, but even though I have set the notebooks to connect to the preferred network automatically, every time they restart I have to manually connect and type in the WEP key. This is a big hassle - Why won't they connect to the detected network?

Hi all.

Newbie here I have a Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Omega Wireless Gaming Headset. When I play CS GO or use the net in general using my speakers = all good, stable connection to the net. When I use the Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Omega Wireless Gaming Headset, I get drop outs. Initially it dc's my net as soon as I turn them on, then it drops me out intermittently. I just received a 7 day ban from CS because I left the game an couldn't connect in time. I am guessing it may be interfering with my wireless connection when it is searching for a signal? Would be most grateful for your help.

A:Wireless Headset disconnects net?

It sounds as though the headset is using the same wireless frequency and channel as your internet connection.
You need to change one of them.
Get hold of inSSIDer which should show what is being used most heavily around you so you can choose some other settings.

Hey, I have a bit of a problem with my wireless connection on my desktop computer. I use a USB Wireless connection to connect to my router. I get full bars when I'm connected but throughout the day I will get randomly disconnected for 5 or 6 seconds the re-connect. This does not happen to my laptop, or my roommates laptop. I've used two different USB wireless connections now, a Belkin and a dlink. Anyone know why this happens?

When on Windows 7 (release 7100, 64 bit), the wireless internet disconnects after/during downloading a file, game downloads updates, or even when playing an online game. The internet still appears to be connected to my network however a message mentions "limited access". If I disconnect from the network, I am unable to reconnect to the network (error comes up).

This issue does not occur when using Ubuntu (dual boot) or on other computers connected to the internet (using Win XP/Vista). And does not occur when directly connected to the internet.

I also have noticed somewhat of an issue that may be relating to this problem. My network adapter is Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card F5D7000. However, Windows 7 recognizes the network card as "Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card"

Thanks for any help~

A:Wireless Constantly Disconnects

I've got the same exact problem. I have a Rosewill RNX-N2X wireless adapter. My computer does the same thing - the wireless connection comes up with limited access and it won't connect again.

Along with this though, when this happens, my CPU starts getting eaten up to almost 90% usage by something. When I try to shut down, it just locks at the shutting down screen, and I have to hold in the button.

The connection works most of the time when just surfing the web, but when making my account for this site it decided to disconnect. I've tried changing the wireless security, channel, drivers, etc... When I try a wired connection, the connection stays fine under heavy load, so it must be something with wireless drivers or something..Please help!

Edit: Also, my router is a D-Link DIR-655, but I don't think it's the problem. A Windows 7 laptop does not have any problems with this using the same router.

Edit 2: Nevermind, wireless disconnects even when surfing web after about 3-4 minutes, but downloads stop it instantly.

A:Wireless Internet Disconnects

You might want to go into your router settings and change to a different wifi channel. Windows 7 seems to be more sensitive to channel cross over problems than XP was.

You can also use this Wi-Fi scanner to look for unused channels in your area.

I have a D-Link model DIR-625, and it always seems to disconnect when my mother logs on her computer. Is there some kind of setting on her computer that could be disconnecting us? When my dad is on his I never disconnect which is why I am wondering it must be something on her computer that's interfering with the signal or something. If I reset the router while she's still on, It will disconnect again within a few minutes. So where can I check if it could be her computer that's interfering with the signal?

can we see an ipconfig /all from your PC and from your mothers - make sure we know which is which
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Okay, i have solved my previous problem but now i have another problem. My wireless network disconnects after 5 - 10 seconds when i am connected to access point. Even sometimes after i try to connect to it, wireless network just disconnects straight away. I have Windows XP Home Edition.

A:Wireless Disconnects Every 5 - 10 Seconds

You need to post details about the network, specifically the exact make and model of the router to start.
I'd also like to see this.
Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework. For machines with no Internet connection, download this NET Framework 3.5 Full Package on another machine and transfer it with removable media to the problem machine.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

I have windows vista home premium 32 bit edition and wireless router. Roughly 2-3 times per day the internet connection will stop working and i have to restart the pc after which it works fine again.

I have 2 other laptops and a wireless skype phone connected to the same wireless router and they remain connected throughout so it appears not to be an issue with the router. Windows says there is an error which it cannot repair. I have tried every diagnostic and repair in the network and sharing center - also disabling and re-enabling the wireless connection, manually switching the wireless card on and off, manually restarting the router.

Nothing seems to work apart from restarting the laptop after which it works fine until the next time. There doesn't appear to be any correlation between what im doing at the time and when the connection breaks either.

any help much appreciated

Hi wayne123,

I would reccommend re-installing or updating your wireless card's driver, as a first step.

You can do this through the Device Manager.
