New Graphics card - Radeon vs nVidia

Q: New Graphics card - Radeon vs nVidia

I have an HP pavilion with an nVida Motherboard "ABM2n-LA" Win XP media edition and I just installed a Radeon HD 4670 512mb Graphics card. The graphics look great and seem to be working fine but there is no sound. Under the control panel it says no sound devices?

I uninstalled it and tried it without the HD audio drive and still no sound.
I take the card out and the sound is fine.?

Should I get an nVidia 8600 instead?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you have the latest drivers?

The 8600 is much worse.

Hi for the last months ive been trying to fix a but Nvidia Random not card with restarts card graphics graphics AMD problem that ive been having with my computer about months ago I did a major pc upgrade where i replaced my motherboard processor ram heat sink power supply and case the only things I used from the original computer where HDD's SDD and my AMD radeon HD gb Now ive have the most strange issue where i can be watching a video off the HDD or surfing the web on youtube etc and not long after I Random restarts with AMD graphics card but not Nvidia graphics card start the activity my computer will turn off like if I had flicked the switch on the back of the power supply and then it boots back up again and will run fine until i start up an activity again and then it does exactly the same thing and reboots there is no BSOD shown nor Dumps Created Ive tried many things to sort this out and have RMA'ed the power supply and the motherboard the motherboard wasn't a direct replacement as they didn't sell my original board anymore which was a gigabyte ga-x -ud now i have an asus p x deluxe I have tried only plugging in one HDD SSD and then tried a spare HDD when that failed i have tried one ram stick at a time and still nothing now heres where it gets strange whilst trying to rule out differnt hardware i switched my AMD card out for a very old mb pcie x nvidia graphics and since then my computer has been running marvelously i can have it playing videos for hours days even although i havent properly tested for days and not a single problem at all The main difference between the cards is obiously one is nvidia and the other is AMD the nvidia one doesn't require any form of external power from the power supply where as the AMD one requires pin connectors and the AMD card is Massively more powerful when compared to the nvidia one the AMD one can run Practically all new titles on max with ease whereas the nividia card struggles to play gta sa on medium so i think ive narrowed it down to a driver error with amd and another driver with my new board a damaged AMD card a second dodgy power supply or something else that i haven't thought about or discovered yet Has anyone else had a similar problem or have any suggetions as im pretty much all out of ideas at this point and its starting to grind my gears that i cant use my expensive new computer as it should be Any help is appreciated Joe P S sorry about any spelling or punctuation mistakes made but Im very tired at the time of writing this and will be going to bed

The comparison you are making between GPU brands is pointless as a diagnostic. The MAIN difference I can see is that one card requires external power, and the other one does not. A proper diagnostic would be to test another GPU that requires external power.

I've heard that the specific PSU you bought will sometimes not power all the hardware it is supposed so.
People saying it could barely power a SSD, or even an extra fan.

My thoughts. Try using another PSU, try using a similar GPU. Use your old PSU and see if it still happens for starters.

A:T420s Nvidia Graphics Card & Express Card Question...

The T420s with Nvidia GPU has two graphics card that can switch on the fly, if you only want the discrete gpu, just go into your bios menu under graphics there is an option to select discrete. With the Nvidia Optimus (which is what you have), it can switch between Nvidia and Intel GPU depending on your application needs. This will allow you to conserve battery or power. Expresscard slot 34 mm slot is occupied by the card reader that you ordered. What you are talking about within the ram slot cover, is the mPCIe slot, which can be occupied by a mSATA drive.

Ok, my friend is buying a new card and he keeps telling me how Nvidia is better. But isn't the Radeon 9800 XT the best card on the market? What companies top card is best?

A:The Best Nvidia Card Vs The Best Radeon Card

You can look in almost any magazine out there that has done an actual test (Nvidia GeForce5950 Ultra vs ATI Radeon 9800XT), and they will tell you that Radeons 9800XT is better. Radeon always has been the top preformer in shading/pixel features. The Radeon 9800XT scored higher than the 5950 Ultra in most cases, and many magazines have made the 9800XT their "editors choice award" for best vpu. Here is a link that shows what I am talking about:

Good morning. The fan on my Crucial/ ATI Radeon 9100 graphics card is making one heck of a racket. I took the graphics card out of the case and dismantled the fan, cleaned it out, screwed it back on but it hasn't made any difference.

The way I see it I have 2 options - buy a new fan or fork out for a new graphics card. I'd rather just get a new fan, but am not sure what i am looking for. I know what it looks like (about 2 inches x 2 inches) but what type of fan is this... so I don't buy the wrong one.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have been looking at the new ATI Radeon graphics card's and i see that there is a 32mb with ViVo which is what i want really for capturing video. Or the All in Wonder 64mb Radeon with TV.
I don't really want TV, so should i get the 32mb Radeon or is it worth the extra expense to get the All-in-one being that it is 64mb.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry got that back to front, answered my own question, edit/delete won't let me delete the post.

Well since nobody else answer my opinion is the 32 meg should work just fine for what you want.
64 meg is more for gamers trying to push all those frames per second in game.

A:Need advice on video card upgrade nvidia 9500gt vs radeon hd 5670

Answering your last question first then the answer is a resounding yes! For $100 you can get a much better card but it will all depend on what power supply you have in your case. Make, model, watts and more importantly how many amps are on the 12v rail.

If you don't know then can you get the make and model from the side of the psu. To do that just take side of computer and look for something that resembles the pic below. Its the white label like the one shown.

What version of windows are you running? You could try uninstalling the driver through device manager. It should auto detect it when you reboot. Or just throw in the disk that came with your video card and reinstall it.

I've just updated the drivers from Omega to Crimson and when I play a movie through either Power DVD or Zoom Player there is a red line down the centre of the monitor. This has only happened after installing the latest update. So I uninstalled the driver to put the original Omega back on and everything is fine.

Any ideas on what's causing this problem please?

A:AMD Radeon Graphics Card Driver

Could be anything, to be honest. It not a NECESSITY to have the latest up to date drivers though. If you're not having any problems with your current drivers, which you just stated you're not, leave it be. Normally drivers are issued to correct a specific problem or set of problems. If you're not having any its not completly necessary to update to the latest drivers.

Hi forum dwellers I am having a lot of trouble getting my graphic card to update itself. I have tried using the device manager numerous times to no avil. It always tells me that i'm up to date. But the current software/hardware update was from 2008. Thats lightyears behind on what i'm quite sure they have updated so far. My friend keeps telling me to update the driver but I have tried so many times.
I even went to the ATI website and tried the uninstall old driver install new procedure and it still tells me mine was last updated in 2008 and that it is fine!

A:ATI Radeon 3200 graphics card

Go here and run the driver check- ATI Driver Update Utility

That should tell you if you have the latest driver.

When you run the check for drivers in Vista or Win 7, I think it checks to see if you have the latest generic Windows driver.

No, it isn't a bad thing because GDDR5 paired with a 128 bit Memory Bus Width is equivalent to GDDR3 paired with a 256 bit Memory Bus Width. The ATI Radeon HD 5770 is a fairly popular mainstream card, thus the performance level is good enough for most people.

A:Nvidia Graphics card

Nvidia only supplies chipsets. Since they don't build the graphics cards, they don't support them.

I would check with the manufacturer of your video card and try the drivers from them. Usually the manufacturers tweak the drivers a little specifically for their cards.

I read on another forum site that a Nvidia Geforce GT630 with 1GB dedicated memory is better than a Nvidia Geforce GT620 with 2GB dedicated memory. Is this true, surely more memory would be a bigger advantage than the slight speed difference between models?

A:Better Nvidia Graphics card

Usually higher models would perform better than their predecessors but there can be positives and negatives with both.

For example:
ZOTAC GeForce GT 620 2GB DDR3
Clock rate - 700 MHz
Shader Clock - 1400 MHz
Memory Clock - 1066 MHz
Memory Size - 2GB
Memory Interface - 64-bit
Memory Type - DDR3

ZOTAC GeForce GT 630 1GB DDR3
Core clock - 810 MHz
Shader Clock - 1620 MHz
Memory Clock - 1333 MHz
Memory Size - 1GB
Memory Interface - 128-bit
Memory Type - DDR3

1. 630 has higher Clock speeds
2. 630 has bigger Memory Interface
3. Size of memory won't have much impact unless you're using a high resolution or multiple monitors

Yes, I would suggest that you uninstall ATI drivers & Catalyst Control Center(and anything to do with ATI) prior to installing the new card. After that it's an easy switch, install the graphics card, the latest Nvidia drivers, sofware & utilities, and you're good to go.

The system (motherboard) can share memory with the video card, my MSI shares 2 GB giving me a total of 4 GB of graphics memory.

The Dell Optiplex SFF has an 240 W power supply. The PCIex16 Slot (BLUE) (Voltage supported 3.3V/12V) has the maximum wattage = 50 W, and the Nvidia Quatro 600 (low profile) has the maximum power consumption = 40 W.

Your poor use of punctuation and grammar makes your thread very difficult to understand. If I am understanding you correctly, then I will say that almost anything is better than that. If I'm not mistaken, the 3000 series is not even still manufactured. It was succeeded by the 4000 series which was eventually also succeeded by the 5000 series, which supports DirectX 11.

From personal experience, the Mobility Radeon HD 5650 does pretty well overall.

A:Graphics card AMD Radeon 7670 not being used in Windows 8

Hi you should get a fps even from the chips graphics. Open up catalyst and have a look to see if it is set to enabled. Check your bios f1 or del on boot and have a look to see what settings you have and if your dedicated gpu is detected. Also that cpu can be set to turbo at 3.1 ghz. You can use amd auto detect to update drivers.

I'm having trouble controlling my new graphics card. All I want to do is clone monitors- tv and monitor. The Catalyst software won't install b/c it says that the incorrect driver is installed. So I have to try to set it up using the display settings in control panel. Has anyone had this problem with this card before? I think I could clone with the catalyst program but I can't get it installed b/c the driver issue. what should I do?

I recently acquired a Compaq Presario 5030 with the following specs:

Intel Pentium II 300 MHz processor
Intel 440LX/EX chipset
Quantum Bigfoot TX 7.46 GB hard drive(4,000 rpm)
256 MB PC-100 SDRAM
ATI 3D Rage LT Pro "on-board" display adapter(2 MB video memory)
ESS AudioDrive 1869 "on-board" sound device
Rockwell HCF 56K modem
Realtek RTL8139 network card
Mitac 110-watt power supply
Compaq 04C4h motherboard(2 - PCI slots)

Since I am using this computer with Roadrunner high-speed cable and have no use for the 56K modem, I want to remove the modem card and add an ATI Radeon 7000 graphic card that has 32 MB of video memory. The specs on the box are compatible with this computer. I'm hoping that adding the graphics card and disabling the "on-board" display adapter will improve the graphic quality of this computer and possibly increase its overall performance.

I would appreciate some input on this.

make sure you have AA & AF disabled and try turning down the resoloution

also, did you do a clean install of the gfx card drivers or patch over the top? what's it like with other games?

you are just scraping within the recommended system specs with your processor though...

If you want to save time you can skip most of the story and just read the last two paragraphs I recently purchased an HP Elite t Pavilion with a Radeon graphics card in it I thought I was getting a decent graphics card but found that it is fairly mediocre and apparently the nd number in the graphics card numbering system is more indicative of its performance I talked with some of my more computer savvy friends and they suggested the as the is very expensive and probably more than i need I was able to get a off of Newegg and upon installing it my computer beeped at me After spending minutes with HP s mediocre tech support much of the time was spent in silence while she tried to find the answer in their database because apparently she has no knowledge of the products she is supporting she was able to tell me that I need to upgrade my power supply in order to run a high-end graphics card like the one I purchased What kind of a power supply ATI Installation Radeon 5770 Card Graphics would you recommend with an HP Pavilion Elite t with Windows and Intel i quad core and a ATI Radeon HD graphics card Also I have never installed a power supply before so if you could advise as to how challenging it may be that would ATI Radeon 5770 Graphics Card Installation be helpful I wouldn t mind being educated on the specs of power supplies either and how they can affect my computer nbsp

A:ATI Radeon 5770 Graphics Card Installation

The Radeon HD 5770 requires a 450 watt power supply according to AMD. This video card alone can draw about 108 watts so a 300 watt PSU won't cut it when you factor in all the other parts and efficiency of the PSU, about 80% for a quality unit and lower for cheap units. But wattage alone isn't the only measure of a power supply, new systems draw heavily on the +12 volt rail(s) of the power supply so the higher the current on 12 volt the better. So a 400 watt PSU with 30 amps on the +12 volt rail is better then a 450 watt PSU with 25 amps on the +12 volt rail. Brands are also important and generally price follows brands, a cheap $25 PSU regardless of the specs will generally not perform as well as a $60 PSU with the same specs from a quality manufacture, the reasons being the quality of the components, the temperatures at which the ratings are tested at - PSU's lose efficiency at higher temps, and the quality of the voltage it outputs - ie. no ripple, spikes, or drops in voltages.

This Corsair would easily do the job:

Installing it is a matter of 4 screws at the back and plugging in any required cables to the components in the PC - just make a note of where you unplug the previous cables from. And the video card will also need to be plugged into a 6 pin connector from the PSU.

I have just installed a new graphics card (radeon rx 9250) and it seems to be working ok....but...its slower than my original graphics card ( radeon 7000 ) and when i look closer the agp seems to be switched off...How do I switch it on for 4x or 8x agp.
Ive tried switching it on but when i reboot my pc it reverts back to the old setting.
Do I have to change the bios setiings??
I have tried this but Im not sure what Im looking for
Can anyone help??

What driver & version do you use? Some would revert changes to defaults. What mobo? Are you sure it's an 8X card?

I'd change the AGP 4X/8X setting in BIOS.

If I disable the onboard video card in bios, I have to enable pallette snooping so that my screen doesn't go black. No matter what I do, though, as soon as windows begins to load, whether in normal or safe mode, the computer restarts. Sometimes I get a brief message on my monitor, I'm not talking about the BSOD, but a monitor message that says (I think) "frequency overcharge". I've tried every configuration I can think of, including removing my other devices and trying to install the video card by itself, but nothing works. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Let's start with doing this first,

If you're unsure of what anything is this should show you,

Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Also help to know the make and model of power supply you have. For this you're going to have to actually look at it as ther is no way to find out with software.

Once you have done that then it will be far easier to help you.

A:Different dimensions of the AMD Radeon HD 6990 graphics card

I'd say that making sure a video card is going to fit in your case is an important consideration. Also need to consider your motherboard layout since a really long dual slot card can block access to headers or create other assorted clearance problems. Although there is a reference design, it's not too surprising to see minor variations from one manufacturer to the next.

AMD's much anticipated Radeon HD 6990 made a brief public appearance this weekend in a demo by the company's graphics team manager Matt Skynner. The executive whipped out the card while discussing the company’s APU technology, and while no actual details were revealed of the product itself, Japanese site 4gamer managed to get some close up shots of the massive dual-GPU card as well as a few details from reps at the event.

A:Graphics Card/Driver Crashing AMD Radeon R9 290

dont worry about the temperature in this instance as the r9's are designed to run that hot and will run that hot for the life of the card.

is that the latest version of the drive youve downloaded or the bundled cd version. sorry I cant check as im on my phone.
if it is try the latest beta version, these sometimes have a few bug fixes.

also what power supply are you using? as its missing from your list. most r9's require 500w psu minimum and some brands state upto 600w.

a cheap higher wattage psu cant always deliver reliable wattages and or actually go as high as they state.

Hia all
Annoying problem, bought this card just under a year ago and it worked really well for games like Oblivion, BFME2 and Dawn of war 2. Then about two months ago during games of BFME2 it began to make the screen go blank, the screen would come back up after about a second. Then I recently bought and installed Napoleon total war which it allowed me to play for few days until it just began to again blank out the screen but never come back on.
Some people said it was the fact that they overheat fast but it has a fan on it, and I have put some fresh thermal paste on the chip and left the desktops cover off but it continues to fail.
Any idea's?

Please could someone possibly help me as I have very limited knowledge with computers.
My pc has been acting oddly these last few weeks. It's been freezing, crashing and the graphics have been very hit and miss.
Well anyway this morning someone advised me to update my drivers, which I did and now my screen resolution is buggered.

I'm using a Ati Radeon X1650 graphics card.

After updating the drivers my screen resolution is now stuck at 640 x 480 and the colour quality is stuck at the lowest rate (4bit)
I've tried rolling back the drivers and even a system restore but to no avail!

I don't have the original installation disc as I was given this pc by a friend.

Please could you help me? I've no idea how to correct it.

thanks in advance

I just installed this card and noticed a subtle change in rendition of shading on some pages and in Outlook Express. For instance, where there are slight variations in shading between sections they seem to have almost merged so that I find it difficult to see the difference.
I have Catalyst 6.5 installed and wonder which setting I'm supposed to tweak to get the contrast, saturation or...? whatever to increase. It's like the colours are there and look good but when they become faint on certain pages they almost vanish or are extremely washed out..sorry, I wish I could explain it better!
FYI I had a 9200 before but installed this one so I would have pixel shading v2.0 (whatever it's called) ready to beta test's needed for the Aero Glass feature.
Apart from that slight problem the card works just fine.
Any advice would be appreciated.

It will be very nice of you if you share with us the purpose for which you are planning to upgrade the GPU. I mean, do you want to play games, video editing or simply watch videos and play light games. Also, how much you want to spend?

Once we have the info, we would also like to know which PSU (power supply you have)? As high end GPUs require a good PSU as well.

Keep us posted.

A:ATI Radeon 9800 XT Graphics Card HOT! (and broken fan)

I would cuss out your friend if he/she didn't tell you it was a defective card
to begin with.
its running hot because the heatsink on the video card has quite working.

about fixing it. look at the back of the card and see if you can see any
heat damage to the circuit board. if so---ITS toast.

if you can find a new heatsink and fan for your video card.
I wouldn't reliy on the card to last a long time.
your friend probably ran it for awhile with it making noises,
so this shortened the life expectancy of the card.

I'm not sure if I should have posted this in the games forums

Yesterday I got my new Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB graphics card. I upgraded from a Gforce 3.

I know this is a sweet card but strangly I'm not seeing much of an improvement in my graphics processing AT ALL. I still get really low FPS (20 at times) in UT2K4 with LOW settings.

Why is this???? Is my 1.5 GHZ processor bottlenecking everything or what? Could I have it set up wrong?

Drivers are up-to-date...

Any help is appreciated!

Hey everyone i need some help to install the radeon 9250 card. I have put the card in the correct slot and tried installing the software to go with it but it is not working. All i get is a blank screen when i connect to new card. I have a intel extreme graphics card already installed but i am not sure of how to uninstall the software for it. The intel card is with the main board in the back and its not a removable one. How can i remove this card software and driver and make the radeon the main graphics card. Also is there anything i have to do to install the radeon other than putting the card in and installing the software?

I have just installed Windows 7 x64, I install the newest NVIDIA driver and I begin to set it up, I get the error saying NVIDIA install cannot continue
This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

It does not show up in device manager, nor system information, what does show up though in both, is Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I try uninstalling it, in safe mode, and it still appears.

I've tried pulling the card out and plugging it back in, like I just got the card.

By any chance did you install the NVIDIA beta drivers? If so they are broken for the 8600GT right now (been documented EVERYWHERE)

The only way to fix it is to system restore back before the driver was installed OR a reinstall of Windows

Problem is that my graphics card (nvidia geforce 9800gtx)keeps stopping and i get an error thats says" Display driver stopped responding and has stopped Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 257.33 stopped responding and has successfully recovered" I usually get this error or i get the blue screen of death keep in mind this never happen when i had vista so i know it is windows 7. Also the driver is the latest driver from nvidia/ Can someone tell me how to fix it because I do not want to go back to vista and spent $120 on windows 7.

A:Windows 7/ nvidia graphics card

Also i Found this solution from Larry D. Lawerence but the problem is that windows have a preconfigure driver for my nvidia 9800gtx graphics card so everytime i uninstall the drive/restart my pc it automatically installs the driver
1. Control Panel=>Windows Update=>Change Settings=>"Download updates but let me choose whether to install them".
2. Download the latest driver for your card from the nvidia website.
3. Go to Device Manager, select your display adaptor, and uninstall it, choose to also delete drivers when prompted.
4. Reboot computer into safe mode by pressing f8 when the computer boots, when prompted to install new display driver choose "never install a driver for this device"
5. Navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\ and rename the file nvlddmkm.sys to nvlddmkm_old.sys. Take note of the date of this file
6. Navigate to c:\windows\system32 and rename any other file of the same date as nvlddmkm.sys which begins with the letters 'nv'
For example:
nvcplui.exe becomes nvcplui_old.exe
nvd3dumx.dll becomes nvd3dumx_old.exe
etc..etc..etc..Repeat for all files with the same date as the file you found in step 5, they begin with the letters 'nv'
If it is too tedious to rename all the files, you can simply move them to a different folder.
6a. For 64bit Vista / 7, repeat step 6 in c:\windows\sysWOW64
7. Reboot to normal Windows, if prompted again to install a driver choose "never install a driver for this device.
8. Install the driver which you downloaded from the nvidia website.

I got a new GPU from amazon for 710 card New graphics 2GB GT new problems, Nvidia about So I got a ZOTAC NVIDIA GeForce GT GB PCIe x Put it in my computer and i immediately had problems First problem Computer wouldn't turn on Kept cycling on and off repeatedly so I turned my computer off by unplugging it And this time I unplugged the hard drive to see if my computer would boot without it worked but i noticed the bios got completely reset so i had to manually plug the hard drive back in while the computer was on and change the bios settings to enable hard drive controller and some other settings like virtualization and speedstep now it boots up fine without cycling on and off or needing the hard drive unplugged I guess the capacitors needed to be charged for the first time and they were never primed or tested A restart and windows won't boot past windows startup logo Forgot to disable integrated graphics driver so i boot into safe mode and uninstall it let it install VGA drivers Now ive got the driver installed from the nvidia New graphics card new problems, Nvidia GT 710 2GB website without the D vision or HDMI audio drivers and other things i wont be using i installed PhysX though but now I get random display driver crashes IF DWM AERO is turned on i made a seperate partition and never had any crashes on a windows XP -install It crashes and successfully recovers Sometimes its when opening a game right clicking my desktop to bring up context menu or opening a new tab pausing a youtube video Playing a really long youtube video but it doesnt crash with DWM AERO turned off at all ever instead I get lots of crackly audio on youtube IF my taskbar is showing and not quot hidden quot but I open my start menu with the taskbar showing and it stops the crackling audio And hovering over a link to make a extended text bubble appear makes the audio start crackling as well this doesnt happen if DWM AERO is on so I have two choices random driver crashes and recovers or crackly audio doing certain things Ive tried the drivers from the CD DVD and NVIDIA's drivers and theres no difference it also doesnt make a different if i underclock my CPU and GPU to the lowest they can go or overclock them to the highest they can go I also even tried raising my PSU voltage with the potentiometer adjustment dial with a micro precision screwdriver so from v to v and my - v and v and v are locked to the same dial so I got V for v within spec below v And it helped my CPU overclock a tiny bit more mhz more but nothing else changed besides that to be honest its a very old computer One of the voltage adjustment knobs don't seem to do anything at all seems broken none of the voltages change when i adjust it so only the main pot does anything For some reason even with DWM aero off or on I dont get any crashes during playing a game of any kind only when I go to start a game like clicking the exe occasionally i'll get a crash but it usually doesnt make the game crash and i can just ignore it The audio crackling thing happens no matter how I play audio from my computer USB bluetooth wireless adapter USB headset mm jack front or rear happens anyways but only when DWM AERO is disabled Happens if I watch p to p FPS videos or even playing audio in WMP or VLC Sometimes even when playing games although gameplay isnt affected Surprisingly the GPU can overclock by huge amounts and still need no voltage adjustment and be stable no visual artifacts or glitches up to mhz core and mhz memory without any voltage change almost a shear increase in both memory and core And FPS Stock is mhz core and mhz memory And the temp barely rises by even C when overclocked this much so I flashed the bios to be permanently overclocked to and and its been fine no change in stability temp is only C under load for several hours no fan but it still stays cool good

I think my newly bought NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS graphics card is faulty. Is there any signs or ways to test whether it is or not.

The reason I think it's faulty is because I had a pretty messed up PC about two weeks after installing it. I eventually had to reinstall the old card (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200) and do a full system recovery (reverting back to the factory setup). Without the 7600 everything seems to be working as it should.

Any ideas?

I just installed a NVIDIA graphics card and I can t play vidoes with it as when I try the computer slows way down and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to close the program playing the video From researching on the internet it in Graphics Card NVIDIA acceleration 3d seems it is a common problem and one way of getting around it is to disable the d acceleration Does anyone know how to do this I tried the method that NVIDIA suggest but to be honest I don t understand it quot To enable or disable D hardware acceleration From the NVIDIA Control Panel Select a Category home page select D Settings Click the View menu and then select Advanced Manage D Settings to open the associated page The options on this advanced page enable you to change all the image and rendering settings of your D applications that utilize Direct D and OpenGL technology Click the Global Settings tab Under Settings click the setting corresponding to the Hardware acceleration feature and select one of these options Single-display performance mode If you have only one active display this is the default setting You can also specify this setting if you have problems 3d acceleration in NVIDIA Graphics Card with the multi-display modes Note This mode is faster than either of the multi-display modes described below Compatibility performance mode is 3d acceleration in NVIDIA Graphics Card available if you have two or more active displays when running in nView Dualview display mode or if you are using different classes of NVIDIA GPU-based graphics cards When this mode is in effect OpenGL renders in compatibility mode for all displays so that when different classes of GPUs are in use the lowest common feature set of all active GPUs is exposed to OpenGL applications Note The OpenGL rendering performance is slightly slower than in single-display mode Multi-display performance mode is available if you have two or more active displays when running in nView Dualview mode or if you are using different classes of NVIDIA GPU-based cards When this mode is in effect OpenGL renders in performance mode for all displays and when different classes of GPUs are in use the lowest common feature set of all active GPUs is exposed to OpenGL applications Note The rendering performance is faster than in compatibility mode although switching or spanning displays may result in minor transient rendering artifacts quot I tried all the options stated and none of them worked I have a GeForce and the driver Any help would be appreciated nbsp
