Vista language tool bar fix for when dissapears :)

Q: Vista language tool bar fix for when dissapears :)

Simply check that CTFMON.EXE boots at startup (for all users) Or go to start/run and type CTFMON.EXE then enter.

Use the following code (copy and paste to a .REG file) if you don't know how to add manually this executable to HKLM startup.

Preferred Solution: Vista language tool bar fix for when dissapears :)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For about a month now my task bar at the bottom of my desktop goes invisible after about 15-20 seconds. The start menu button (the blue circle with the windows logo) is still visible though. This only happens when I am logged in. When logged in as my wife the task bar is visible. I have Kaspersky virus protection, and it has not found anything. I have searched up and down online and have not found anything similar. Any ideas?

I have Windows Vista Home SP2,
I need to change PC language from Norvegian to English,

Thank you.

A:My Windows Vista is Norvegian language, I need English language.

If you have the multi language installation disc, you can change the language during a reinstallation. If it is a Norwegian only, then you are stuck unless you can borrow an English installation disc and activeat with the key that is on the COA sticker (on the bottom of the laptop).

Ok I know that I have asked this questions before but when I did a search and I look through my old posts I can't seem to find it. Must have been pruned or something and I can't remember how I did it.

Anyway I was wondering how do you diable the Language Bar from being displayed automatically on your Task bar when you log into windows. I know that it isn't a bit deal to just turn it off, but I would like to disable it like I had before and some how I got it to come on all the time now after installing something.

A:How do you disable the Language Tool bar

I had the same problem, and I disabled it... Unfortunately I cant remember how I did it...

I remember rightclicking on the task bar and then going into properties or something. Im on a school computer atm so unfortunately cant have a look due to the retarded system administrator diabling right click... WHAT A NOOB!

Hi I may have misunderstood the literature regarding the language packs or language proofing tools st of all I am not sure if they are the different names for the same thing or not Are they nd I do not in ay way want to change my UI with a different language All I want to be able UI changing Office language 2010 proofing tool pack Microsoft without to do is - - let Office not give me those squiggly red lines when I write in a different language - - be able to spell-check and grammar check in the other language And since I often use more than one language at the same time to be able to use all of the languages for spell-check etc at the same time So what exactly am I looking for What I have legally downloaded are files that have such a series of numbers letters X - exe X - exe X - exe Are these the right Microsoft Office 2010 language pack proofing tool without changing UI kind of stuff I Microsoft Office 2010 language pack proofing tool without changing UI am looking for Thanks

A:Microsoft Office 2010 language pack proofing tool without changing UI

They have different names because they ARE different things.
You can have proofing tools for multiple languages, but no language packs installed. But generally, they come together.

You did not mention your Office edition (Standard, PRO, etc.)

If you say that you got them legally, likely they match your office edition.
I would say go ahead and install them. UIs in different languages will also be installed, but Office UI language will match Windows UI.
So, if your Windows and Office were both in English, after installation of those language packs, it will still be Office in English.

If they are different you can edit Office UI language in Start - Microsoft Office - Microsoft Office Tools - Microsoft Office 2010 Language Preferences.

Same tool can be called by pasting this line in Start search bar
%programfiles%\Microsoft Office\Office14\SETLANG.EXE

Hi all
Anyone know if it's possible to install the VISTA language packs into W7.

I need the Icelandic language for some testing but have only got the VISTA language pack
Anybody tried installing a VISTA lang. pack into W7. (In this case the requirement is for the x-86 version)

A:Vista Language packs in W7 - possible or not

Hi Jimbo,

Seven does have language packs. If you have been doing updates it should be included. I hid the language packs because I don't use them, albeit I just checked on the hidden updates and they are there. But, there is not a language pack included for Iceland. Not sure but don't they speak a form of Danish because there is a Danish language pack. Not sure this will help, but here's hoping.

Hope someone can give me some advice.

I bought my laptop in Korea when I was working there and it came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium Korean edition. I don't speak korean very well, so that's not very useful.

Is it just a case of installing an English version of Vista HP (upgrade version)? I don't want to be told I have to install in the same language and waste my money.

A:Re-installing Vista in different language

Well, you could do that, but I think a cheaper way would be to follow the directions here:

The display language is the language that Windows uses in wizards, dialog boxes, menus, Help and Support topics, and other items in the user interface. Some display languages are installed by default, and others require you to install additional language files. When you change the display language, it is changed for your user account and is not changed on the Welcome screen. If you want to set the display language for multiple users or the Welcome screen, see Apply regional and language settings to reserved accounts.

Open Regional and Language Options by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Regional and Language Options.

Click the Keyboards and Languages tab.

Under Display language, choose a language from the list, and then click OK.
NoteIf you don't see the list of display languages, you need to install additional language files first. For more information, see Install a display language.

When you change the display language, the text in menus and dialog boxes for some programs might not be in the language that you want. This happens because the program might not support Unicode. For more information about changing the text in menus and dialog boxes for programs that do not support Unicode, see Change the system locale.

Or if you don't have an LIP as the instructions state you can change the language like so:

You can change the language Windows uses to display text in wizards, dialog boxes, menus, and other items in the user interface. Some display languages are installed by default; others require you to install additional language files.

Before you can install a display language, you need access to the language files. These files can be on your computer, on a computer on your network, or on your Windows DVD; or they can be downloaded from the web. For more information, see How do I get additional language files?

To install a Language Interface Pack (LIP), double-click the file to open the setup program. To install a Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI), follow these steps:

Open Regional and Language Options by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Regional and Language Options.

Click the Keyboards and Languages tab.

Under Display Language, click Install/uninstall languages, and then follow the steps. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
NoteThe Display language section will only be visible if you have already installed a LIP or if your edition of Windows supports MUI. MUI packs are only available in Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Vista Enterprise.

If you don't even have English installed as a choice in that, an LIP should be available. I'd contact Microsoft support about that one if you can't find it, as it wasn't in the list I found...

Hi I just bought a brand new gateway laptop from an opened box ( previously used and brought back). Once i had turned it on, the setting for the setup were in French. After the setup was complete , everything was still in french. So by looking at my other computer i found the menus of where the language settings are. After selecting United States again.... nothing had changed.

mr wolf,

Here is a Microsoft link that (sort of) explains what the difference is between LIP and MUI.
Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI).*
Windows Vista Language Interface Pack (LIP).*

If you have Vista Ultimate - you will be in luck - if you have - Windows Vista Ultimate -
MUI is also available for Vista Enterprise -
I have never installed either of these - so not sure what LIP, would be lacking.
"If you are using Windows Vista Enterprise, contact your system administrator for information about installing additional languages."

I attach the pics. first when the taskbar is locked, the second when it is unlocked

I have purchased an Acer Pc in Spain with Vista Home Premium. The salesman assured me that I would be able to see all of my programs in English after the shop ran a conversion programme. This has not worked at all. The program did convert most of my windows to English but in the process lost all of the programmes that were preinstalled by Acer. I restored these using a factory restore disc but this converted my Windows back to Spanish. My question is this "Is it possible to obtain a factory restore disc that will install everything in English". I have contacted Acer support in England and they have referred me to Acer Spain. Suprisingly when I contacted Acer Spain they referred me to Acer England.

I have heard people say that it is possible, and others says that its only possible in premium and ultimate.

I will need to change the language of my vista basic from English to chines when I get it, and I find it hard to believe that Microsoft would be so stupid and make this impossible, because if it is, I will just buy a pirated Chinese version and never pay for anything that Microsoft makes again.

All though, according to this link:

it should be possible. It says so black on white (or at least gray on blue) "Applies to all editions of Windows Vista.", right under the big blue "Change the display language".

Hi, how did you install it? I ask because there are a number of reasons for the language bar to not show. I take it right clicking on taskbar and selecting Toolbars "language bar " is not an option. Under Msconfig does ctfmon show up in your startup's, you need it for the language bar to work. Copy below into notepad and then "save as" call it language.reg and save desktop double click on the saved file to merge into registry Reboot to take effect:-

I am going to use upgrade media to upgrade vista to 7.

1. Can I change the language from Dutch to English if I do a custom installation? Answered: yes

2. Is it a 100% clean installation if I do a custom installation and format during this procedure? Answered: read thread

Ad 1
If you do a custom install, formatting the drives, the language difference between vista and 7 is not a technical obstacle. So it comes down to licensing: does Microsoft accept this?

Ad 2
I do not want to use any 'registry workarounds'. But since people are using them, I'm wondering if a custom installation (with formatting during this process) indeed is a fully clean installation. The different tutorials are very confusing on this matter.

A:Upgrade dvd: vista to 7 in different language using custom install

You can inplace upgrade or Clean install.

If you want a clean installation:
Boot from the Windows 7 Upgrade disc, and at the install screen Choose "Custom" Installation.

Once you get to the install screen, you can format the drive Vista is on, delete and create new partitions .. however you desire to do it.

This is considered an Upgrade Install, even if you wipe the drive before installing, because you have an existing Windows installation when you booted from the Win7 disc.

My Notebook comes from the U.S. with Vista Ultimate. Now I want to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate here in Europe.

I heard that an in-place upgrade to Windows 7 is only possible within the same language (e.g. EN-US). Now I worry that I'll buy the wrong Win 7 version.

I know that my current Vista Ultimate is English, but how to find out which one (could be British as well)? Ist there a native OS language at all besides the language I set in the "regional and language options" in the control panel?

And is this important at all? As far as I know Windows 7 Ultimate supports 35 languages, so does it matter at all as long as I accept to install Win 7 in the same language like my Vista is?

Sorry, maybe I'm a bit confused *ggg*. Thanks so much for any enlightements!

regards, Wolfgang

A:Upgrade Vista Ultimate -> Windows 7: OS Language

Hi Drachenstein, welcome to the Seven Forums.

If you want to do an in-place upgrade, you have to have exactly the same language version. Info about the pre-installed OEM version with activation key can normally be found in the sticker in the bottom of the laptop.

If you ordered your laptop from the USA, the OEM Windows Vista most certainly is English. So for in-place upgrade you need an English Win7. To my knowledge Windows 7 is available only in one universal English version; no EN-US or EN-UK versions exists.

Is there any utility (or other easy way) to dump the language and locale
settings for a particular system into a file?

The reason I ask is that we support an internationalized product around
the world, and sometimes our users do not get the language behavior they
expect, and we would like a way for them to dump all relevant (and
irrelevant) language settings into a file that they can send back to us.

(It would be easier than asking a user to go through all the control
panel settings and write them down.)

I recall there being an option in the regional and language settings for something along the lines of "extended support of all text services in programs" in windows XP and was wondering if its still in vista?

I am trying to input Japanese characters into a few programs and it will not give me anything but annoying "?"'s back.

Mozilla firefox is fine and so are a few plain text entry applications, but not for example Ventrilo, teamspeak, or online games such as world of warcraft where it would be helpful when talking to japanese friends.

So i come here looking for help

You addressed this once before but it was slightly different.

I will be typing away in any application and all of a sudden it is like I hit the end of a line or like an input field of 25 characters ran out.

I have to stop, wiggle the mouse, relocate the cursor where I was, then go on. It is a royal pain. It happens all the time.

I have a logitech cordless optical mouse which is probably the problem. I have replaced it with a regular USB wired mouse and there is no problem.

Any ideas?

This doesn't happen if I restart the computer though, so it's tied to sleep somehow. Only way it appears other than restarting the comp is if I Rescan Disks from Disk Management. Doing that it just pops in instantly and has no issue until I put the computer to sleep again. My SATA driver is the most recent one from the ASUS motherboard page.

Ok so i've bought FSX standard edition and my laptop is running Vista 32-bit.

So i've now installed the game 3 times and each time it finishes installing, opens up and starts running I have a quick play on it. However when I exit the game thats it...the files and everything dissapear.

Opening disk 2 doesn't do anything at all except with disk 1, the option to repair/ uninstall comes up.

Any ideas on whats making it do this? the game itself works because i've played it briefly so the only thing I can think of is that I dont have sufficient space?

Sometime the partition E just dissapears. If i restart my computer,is back.
Do you know what could be ?? Hardware / software problems ??
There is no virus / trojan/malware ...or something.
Please tell me how can i fix that.

A:partition E dissapears sometime

What it sounds like is that actually it's your second SATA hard drive that is disappearing. That's the one with the E: partition, right?

That condition can happen when you have a incorrect or corrupted SATA driver for the OS, or the Drive Configuration mode in your BIOS has been changed.

But it can also be as simple as plugging the second (E) drive into SATA ports 3 or 4 on the motherboard. Some motherboards are touchy when it comes to data drives - those that do not have a active partition. You might as well give that a try first. Can't hurt, might help.

I recently downloaded and installed IE7 beta 3 just to see how much better it is. I normally use firefox for everything but sometimes am required to use IE to access certain pages or get pages to display correctly.

Immedialtly after my computer restarted after the install, IE 7.0 would not work. A window pops up for less than a second and then dissappears immediatly. There are no events under Internet Explorer in the event log and I did the reset thing and disabled 3rd party additions in internet options.

If there is no way to fix this, can somebody tell me how to revert to IE 6.0. I tried a system restore but this didn't get rid of it. It simply gave me an error everytime I started IE and I reinstalled IE 7.0 to remove the error message.

I installed Windows 8 Pro and installed an additional language(let's say it's B) pack, changed system display language to B, and system locale to B.

And I got infinite BSOD after installing some drivers(not related to language pack, just I made mistake installing old programs), so I 'refresh'ed the system.

Guess what, after the refresh, system display was set to English(united kingdom, which is default), AND system locale remained as language B.

This is the problematic part;
1.I CANNOT change system display language to B, it says it's unavailable.
2.The system regards the language pack is already installed because I can still use B as system locale.
3.I cannot reinstall or remove the language pack. LPKSETUP doesn't detect B.

SO i'm pretty much stuck, and I don't want to reinstall just to change the system display language.

Is there any solution to this(removing/reinstalling language pack)?

Now they came back and offered a good solution ... full download of the older Office version ... any language.

sometimes hard disk constantly reads without any reason & computer holts & cant do any work for few mts.

any help would be highly appreciable.

A:[SOLVED] taskbar dissapears

Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) is what's giving you the problem. This is not the same windows explorer that controls your folders. It is a core system process that is always supposed to be running and controls the taskbar among other things. Because of this, when it crashes it brings the taskbar down with it. Sometimes it can come back on its own, but not always. If it crashes and doesn't come back you can push CTRL+ALT+DEL then Select File -> Run and type explorer.exe to make it start-up again. Your system won't be as stable as if you had done a restart, but it will be functional again.

You don't have to have a virus in order for it to have problems, and it's not uncommon to have your computer freeze when this occurs.

If you can recall when this started happening, you could do a system restore (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools : System Restore) to that point. That will keep your files, but you'll have to re-install any programs you've gotten since then. Of course, if you can link the event to a particular program you installed, you could see if uninstalling it helps.

If not, I would take and scan the system for other malware with the free spybot and ad-aware programs (make sure you check for updates before running them).

Then, if you're clean and the problem persists, I'd run Windows File Protection to repair any system files that may be corrupt.

You can do that by clicking Start -> Run and typing: sfc /scannow

(Note: You will need to have an XP SP2 install disk handy to replace the files)

If at any point you do discover any malware, click on the link below to obtain directions on how to obtain help in the HijackThis Forum.

I am having a problem and wondered if someone might be able to help.

Recently I got a new PC with Windows Vista SP2. It has been a real pain but just as I thought I had everything sorted a major problem has occored.

Basically it is a problem with a network printer.

In order to add this printer I have to create a local port [\\2340_RIP_UNIT\9810Mono] this worked fine until I restarted the pc then the port dissapears and when I try to re-create the port it says that it already exists??

It might be just a unfixable compatibility issue but if anyone has any ideas I would a appreciate a suggestion.

I have just purchased a New Sony Vaio Notebook with windows vista, 2.1 intel dual core and 250G hard disk, 3G RAM.
I just expirienced that while working the taskbar and desktop intems just simply dissapeared, and if I minimized the window I was working on it just sat on top. If I pressed the "start" button on the keyboard nothing happened eather... There was no way of making the taskbar active or accessing to it`s properties. I tried to do a system restore to a date before but there was some kind of error and it couldnīt be done so I just did a full system restore and formated "C" as it came from the factory. But again after just istallying messenger and skype it happened again. I did the full system restore again.
Does anyone know why this happens???? `

My current workstation is running WIN XP PRO SP At one point it was being used by my Russian stepson who put a bunch of games etc on it that were in Russian After my own computer motherboard failed I cleaned this workstation up but didn t reinstall windows yet as I was hoping that this wouldn t be necessary Unfortunately when I tried to install the setpoint software from Logitech the splash screen and install instructions come up display install/updates in wrong specific Language language. in Russian The same thing also occured with one of my HP scanner programs Although I have the language settings set to English I Language specific install/updates display in wrong language. do have the Russian keyboard language support also available so that my wife can type in Russian sometimes But even though I have the language set in English and it displays on the task bar as being in English unless I switch it to Russian Language specific install/updates display in wrong language. I can t download updates etc on the software that is quot language quot aware NOTE I have called Logitech who didn t have anyone in their support area who could help me We found one older version of the setpoint software that was showed up mainly in English although a few of the choices for location etc were displayed in a Russian language drop down list even then I am guessing that there is some registry entry etc that the logitech and some HP software look at in order to provide a universal install program and the techs I talked too didn t know about Any help would be greatly appreciated nbsp

I have been installing Portuguese PhotoStory 3 on my windows 7 machine.

It install OK. I reboot. When I invoke Photostory 3 I am expecting to find it in Portuguese, ... but its still in English.
I used the official PhotoStory3Portuguese(Brazil).msi

Here's the question:
Even if I install the Portuguese version, does it still look at the OS language when invoked and say "well, your OS is in English so I am going to display in English" ?

(ps: I have the same issue on my XP machine...)

A:Installing foreign language software on an English language win7 OS?

Could you please share a link for that msi-file, if that is possible?
