Purchase or get copy of replacement CD

Q: Purchase or get copy of replacement CD

I need to get a copy of a replacement CD (or DVD whichever it is) for Windows Vista Business. It is a legitimate copy on my computer but I cannot find the CD. I have looked on Microsoft's web site to try to find a contact number. Does anyone know the correct department or phone number or any other contact information so that I can purchase a replacement disk?

This is not pre-installed software and so I cannot contact the computer's manufacturer. It was purchased separately for a MacBook. I need the CD in order for me to start using the program Parallels. It checks to be sure that Mac OS X is legitimate and that Windows is legitimate before installing Parallels. The MacBook came with Mac installed on it and the Windows Vista Business was purchased separately and installed.

Thank you,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Linda, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You can order a replacement CD/DVD from Microsoft from the link below for just S&H.

If you have a friend that has Vista Business to, then you can copy their DVD to use with your product key number also.

Hope this helps,

Do Dell UK sell and fit a replacement backlit keyboard in the UK.
My current keyboard has stopped working.
I can't find replacement part on Dell UK website.

A:Dell XPS L702X Laptop - want to purchase and have installed a replacement backlit keyboard (UK)

Dell generally charges repairs for other than mainboard or screen replacement at a flat rate that probably exceeds what a local shop will charge, but you will find the Spare Parts line and out of warranty support here:
They'll generally charge for a repair estimate and then apply the charge to the cost of the repair.    In the US, a keyboard replacement is a flat $149 -- the keyboard itself is likely under $50 and is a user-replaceable part.

I have a 300 gig SATA drive on my computer. Stats in my profile.

I bought a 500 gig SATA drive to replace it with.

When I get done, I want the repair/recovery part and the C:\ part to be on the new drive.

I have an external hdd SATA USB holder to hooking it up to start the process isn't a problem.

But I'm not sure of the exact method as the times I've cloned a drive in the past, no recovery partition was there, and the drives were the same size.

I look through the tutorials and didn't see one that fit. I searched for 'clone hard drive' and 'clone boot drive'.

Thanks for your help.

This free software has a drive cloning component. I've not used it myself. (I am using it for image backup.)

Free Hard Disk Copy/Clone Software for PC & Server Hard Drive. Disk clone, disk backup, disk image and partition copy freeware.

As far as the recovery partition, if you still have the option, I would make the recovery DVD set. I don't know if these are hard wired to expect to be on certain disk sectors. Maybe someone who has Acer can chime in. But according to Easus user manual, the disk clone will copy the entire drive as long as the new one is of equal or larger capacity.

I have one internal drive with 1 TB.
The data there is very important to me , so I bought External removable drive for backup.
Now, I want to copy the data from one drive to the second drive but I have to be sure I have a perfect copy of the data.
The data is mostly songs movies and documents.
I'm using windows 7.

My question is this:

1.If I'll transfer the data through windows 7 by copy and paste, I could be sure i have a perfect copy?
2.There are tools for comparison Between the original data to the data that was copied?
If so, what are they?

If I do not in the right place please Please pass my message to the right place.thanks.

A:transfer data through windows 7 by copy and paste perfect copy?

There is no reason why using copy and paste won't give you a perfect copy and in my view it's more reliable than using the Windows backup utility.

One program I've found invaluable is Microsoft's SyncToy, which you can download here: Download: SyncToy 2.1 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

It will sync files between folders of the same name on two separate drives or partitions ( I always use the Echo procedure).

You might also want to consider using Windows 7's Robocopy function.

My 89 yr old mother-in-law bought a desktop from an estate sale. Said she was told it had a 'pirated' copy of XP on it. Called me to find out what that was. She only wanted the computer to do e-mail and FaceBook with the grandkids and great-grandkids. Said she only paid $20 and wanted to know if I could "fix" it. Now, I do have a legal copy of XP that was on a computer that has long since bit the dust. The XP program was an upgrade from ME. I would like to help her and wonder if I could take my upgrade legal CD of XP and just put it in the machine and copy over the 'pirated' copy?

I am getting win7 Ultimate (it should be in the mail right now), I install the win7 evaluation copy with a build I did back in the summer & installed win7 evaluation copy with a clean install. Now I want to do another clean install to get rid of the junk I have collected over the last couple months & because the copy will expire in a couple months. So my question is what is the best way to remove the evaluation copy & install the retail copy without losing all of my programs, drivers & user settings. I was thinking clone the area I want to save & then after the install happens merge the two back. Anyone have a better way or will the above work

A:win7 evaluation copy to a retail copy install

You can't clone and merge the two OS's. If you clean install by booting the new DVD to do a Custom install with Drive Tool formatting, you must reinstall your programs.

Many have reported excellent results doing an in-place Upgrade from the RC to any version using this workaround: Upgrade the Windows 7 RC to any retail version Icrontic Tech

You could try this to see if performance suits you, and if not then do a clean install.

Is there any software to avoid 1:1 CD Copy?

I mean, I create a game software which run by play CD.
And to protect that CD from copying by 1:1 CD Copy. Also I need to protect that CD From running through VIRTUAL CD ROM Drives.

Is there any Technology/Software to do this?

A:CD2CD Copy Protection (Avoiding 1:1 Copy)

Yes, but most of us hate it by virtue of the DMCA saying we can't work around it, and the fact that we can't make backups of the things we buy. Personally, I'd be a good natured developer and avoid such things like the plague. All of them can be circumvented if you try hard enough anyway, and so all you'd really be doiing is making it hard to copy for most people but no harder for the seasoned eyepatched pegleggers.

You're basically looking at cd copy protection software such as starwind etc. I don't know if any such software is available to end users though.

Apologize I read that wrong.

I do believe you can go into the disk management and create a new partition. Then format with NTFS. And install the windows 7 on there.

I probably jumped the gun a bit, thinking the Windows 7 Enterprise OS that was on my new/used computer was "mine to keep". I went ahead an installed several programs including iTunes and about 8,000 songs.

Turns out the seller had only put a 'copy' of his corporate Win7 on (I guess to show me that the computer worked).....and it's going to expire in about 10 more days without the activation code.

Will all my stuff be erased if/when I install a newly purchased copy of ANY version of 7?

Thanks for feedback.

A:Can I install a new, legal copy of Seven over my 'evaluation' copy...

With a fresh format - yes.

Otherwise a non-format install should create a windows.old installation with all data intact - but your apps will not function correctly.

You're better off backing up your data / user folders etc and doing a fresh format installation.

Hello all i m planning on purchasing a new computer for christmas from an online store that i feel is fairly reputable i m just not sure what type of processor to shoot for though i currently have a ghz Intel Celeron from gateway that i bought off my what buy New to Purchase, sister not too long ago This system is fairly outdated that i know and i New Purchase, what to buy am wondering if I should go with a quad or dual core intel that is ghz or am i better off with an intel celeron D ghz from what i am hearing the dual core is ghz cores so in essence a ghz right on one hand i think that the ghz would be pretty damn fast and yet i read articles that would lead me to believe the ghz dual core would be faster i plan on using my computer for normal internet browsing as well as some gaming i play some mmorpg s like guild wars and plan on getting into playing some half life and gears of war which of these two processors would be best for a gaming system These are the two that i am looking at here Intel Core Duo Mhz FSB or Intel Celeron D ghz Lga fsb which is the best for gaming nbsp

A:New Purchase, what to buy

two cores does NOT. i repeat. NOT mean twice the power. it simply splits the load between two processors. it makes it a hell of a lot faster even at a slower gigahertz speed.

i just want to clear that up so there are no misconceptions there. that's a key thing.

if you want game and play something like the half life series or gears of war, you're going to want a fairly hefty processor. not to mention a good graphics card.

the processors you'll want to look at are the Intel E6750 Core 2 duo, and hte Intel Q6600 quad core. you can even look up some benchmarks to show you how they perform as compared to other chips here:

for the rest of the system, make sure you have a quality power supply, at least 2 gigs of RAM from a good manufacturer, and a graphics chip that was very recently introduced.

in terms of power supplies, i suggest the Antec Earthwatts 500watt, the Antec NeoHE 500watt, or an Enermax Liberty power supply. those are very powerful for the price, and are certified to give at least 80% efficiency if not better. so you'll get vast amounts of power, and you'll save on your electricity bill.

for the RAM, get some from Crucial, Mushkin, Corsair, G. Skill, or OCZ technologies. those are the top brands in the business. or at least make sure it comes with it. and get at least 2 gigs worth.

for the graphics chip, i recommend at least an 8800gt or better for gaming. or if you're into ATI, go with the 3850/3870 models.

everything else is up to you. i just recommend those bits as a minimum for a good gaming experience.

...a hardware firewall for an office network. We have about 15 computers connected through a DSL modem plugged into a switch. I was wondering what exactly "unlimited nodes" stands for on firewalls such as our old sonic wall? Will this firewall protect the amount of computers we have?

A:Looking to purchase...

"Unlimited nodes" means exactly that - the firewall will work with any number of hosts behind it. This is opposed to products that will work with only X amount of computers at a time.

As for which device to get.. This depends on what you want that firewall to do and how much traffic it should handle.

I really doubt that you would have functional internet with lots of computers plugged into a DSL modem. Are you sure that this "DSL modem" thing does not already include a router and therefore also a firewall?

A:Help with new RAM purchase

The only specs for RAM that you want to be careful to match are:
Although I must mention that you should not expect to see a real world noticeable increase in performance by jumping up from 1333 to 1600 (or even 1866). Running faster RAM can be important in overclocking in order to get a stable overclock.
Alternately, you could play with overclocking your current RAM to 1600 and save the money. Some 1333 sticks (but not all) can handle it.

I am building a computer for my first time and after choosing a motherboard, have no idea what RAM to buy. I know that I want 8 gigs of RAM, and the motherboard has slots for 4 RAM cards, but I don't know how to figure out how many pins should be on the RAM that I buy. The motherboard that I chose is an MSI ATX DDR3 2133 Motherboard 970. I would prefer a RAM card from Corsair, but thats just personal preference, not necessity. Help anyone?

Also, in case you need more info about my motherboard, I got it at this URL:

A:What RAM should I purchase?

As described in the motherboard description - Memory: 4x DDR3-2133(OC)/ 1866/ 1600/ 1333/ 1066 DIMM Slots, Dual Channel, Max Capacity of 32GB.

This means your motherboard takes DDR3 memory. When an OC follows a number it means that in order for you to run 2133 memory you must overclock, I.e. add more voltage to get it to function at this speed. This is something you don't have to concern yourself with.

Before we move forward why this motherboard? Here are 2 questions that will help you in the process of building a PC:

1. What do you want your system to do?
2. What is your budget?

Dont really have an answer to your question, but have some advice. If you are not going to replace all the ram at once, be careful with the purchase. Make sure that all the sticks are identical, especially the frequency. Many, who replace, ram, buy all that will be used at the same time.

Have never used a burner before and was wondering if this is an OK brand. I looked it up on the Internet and it seems quite popular. I only want it for basic stuff. I don't really want to go elsewhere as this place has looked after the computer very well since I got it.

Just thought I would check out the views of this forum.

The Lite-On is an excellent burner for the money. Lite-On has been good about their firmware updates. The 40X burner you mentioned was released without Mt Rainier support and with P-CAV recording mode. They added both Mt Rainier and true CAV recording through firmware. You don’t have to know what all that means. Just go to their site and get their latest firmware and you will have the fastest 40x burner on the market.

All, I have a HP Laptop which was purchased in the UK (sometime around 2008/2009) and is currently out of warranty. I wanted to check if HP (HP India or Other locations) has any offer / scheme where they buy back these old HP laptops in return for a new purchase. It would be a benefit to Customer's but also to HP who can use parts that are in good condition by their Services and Repair team. Plus it will be a green environment initiative. Thank you. Kind RegardsVenkat

Hi, That is a very good suggestion but all you can do for that machine now is to donate it for a charity or school. Regards.

I'm looking for some expert opinions... =)

I currently have a BFG NVIDIA GeForce GTX-260 OC MaxCore 55 video card and I'm trying to decide if I should purchase a second one for around $70-80 and SLI them... or try to buy an improved replacement card for a similar price and possibly try to sell my current card.

This current card is a:

Memory: 896 MB
GPU Frequency: 655 MHz
ALU Frequency: 1404 MHz
Memory Frequency: 1125 MHz
Memory Bus Width: 448 bits
Number of ALUs: 216
Any suggestions? Advice would be greatly appreciated! =)

Well if you have an sli motherboard and a decent power suppy its a pretty cheap way to double your framerates in most games.

You will be pretty hard pushed to find a single similar pefrorming directx 11 gpu for that kind of money,

Ok so I am looking to purchasing my first NAS and I am having trouble trying to understand what I should purchase based on my needs. Here is what I am looking for:

-HDD indicator for each drive
-Gigabit Ethernet
-Hot swappable
-Compatible with OS X and linux
-Capable of showing up as a Network drive for everyone to access

Most that I have researched involve a web interface to set up and can only be access through there such as QNAP. Any chance that there are any that don't involve the web to constantly access? I plan to have like 8TB in the nas.

Thanks in advance!

A:NAS purchase need help

I think they pretty much all use a browser to access settings, but its jut by local I.P. address, nothing Internet involved unless you're coming at it from the WAN side, then you need a NAS with web-access.

NAS drives are usually tucked out of the way and rarely looked at, better for the NAS to email you periodically about it condition. Gigabit is important but so is the underlying power of the NAS itself. Cheap NAS drives with gigabit ethernet can still be slow--usually the more expensive they are, the faster and even more robust ones have a second gigabit port as a failsafe.

Don't know about hot swappable. Mine are in RAID 1 and they'lll email me if there's a problem (hopefully).
Compatibility, some would have thier own format like RiserFS, and I think all mine are now just good old NTFS so there is no need for translation at all with Windows so I'm not sure about standardization when it comes to sharing with those three main OS flavors.
All NAS drives show up on a network once properly configured, with their own I.P. address and name...that's the N in NAS.

AMD anthlon 64 2x dual core 2.4, 4600
2 x 7600Gt Xpervision gpu/Nvidia
550W psu
M2n-E Sli motherboard
3.5gb of RAM

now i have 3 objects that i am wanting..
the 8800gtx 300mgb...
the new amd anthlong 64 2x dual core 3, 6000
a new computer case with built in watercooling -(was suppose to get the other day but had none in stock)

now i think the case wud b the best as i cud overclock my 7600 and my cpu more as they wudnt overheat and i wudnt have to sell my old case like i wud wif my cpu and gpus... (i wud lose a lot of mony tryin to sell them)

A:what to purchase...

Get the 8800GTS 320mb (I think this was what you're referring to).

This would give you the highest performance boost IMO. Twin 7600GT just wouldn't compete, unless you overclock using LN2, and even that, its debatable.

I have a Toshiba Satellite P105 laptop, ca 2006, running XP3. It works, but there are problems. I would like to purchase and install Windows7. Where is a good place to buy (online is good). I looked at NewEgg, but they are offering a supplier's version, and it looks like you need special software to install. I'm not too techy, as you can see. What I want is a CD that I stick in my drive and say go. I assume this machine will handle W7. I'm also assuming it would require the 32-bit version. Right?

A:Purchase and install W7

Welcome to SevenForums ah100,
You should run this on your lappy to see if it's a good fit. I can say W7 should but for what you'll pay for the OS you may find it just better to upgrade the whole lappy. I use a Intel i3 HP with W7 64 bit and for something similar discounted pricing starts in the high 300's.

Ok, so my stepson is a WoW fanatic. He has found a couple of sites where he can buy gold and pay to level up in the game. As much I dislike the idea of buying your way up in a game, it's his money and his choice.

So anyway, we bought the gold, and it was delivered to his WoW mailbox. In the confirmation email, it said to retrieve that gold as soon as possible due to the risk of random screening for RMT activities.

What are RMT activities?

Is this legal in WoW--to buy gold and leveling?

Bytecc External Case (Black) - $32

Hi all,

I'm currently looking to purchase a new PSU for my machine. I used the watt calculator here ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Recommended Power Supply Wattage Calculator and determined that I need at the least a 400 W PSU.

I realize that when it comes to PSU's it is more complicated than, "the more watts the better". Just curious what would work with my system. Here are my specs:

Computer type: Desktop

Manufacturer: Custom build

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

CPU: AMD Phenom (tm) II X4 925 Processor

Motherboard: Asus MSO-M4N68T-MV2(B)

Memory: 4 GB

Graphics Card(s): ATI Radeon HD 5570

Hard Drives: Hitachi HDS721010CLA332

Apologies if I forgot something.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Want to purchase a new PSU. Any suggestions?

I believe in power supplies with a little more watts and 12+ amps.
If it was my computer I would select something in the 600/650 watt and 40+ amp on the 12v+
I also recommend a full modular power supply. They are a bit more money but they are worth it. These two below should give you quality but are not full modular.

Hello. Just asking here as I trust the folks here. Not wanting to turn this into a battle, just want an opinion.
Wife is starting a 3 yr Phd in nursing, online. (at home) I'm going to buy her a new laptop and have decided on a i7 processor. Just unsure if it really needs to be dual or quad. Just need the speed for getting between apps. Will not be gaming and so-forth. Next question, which machine then to get? Doesn't need to be touch screen either. Really only interested in better keyboard and battery life. I bought her this little Toshiba Sattelite with i3 processor 3 yrs ago for her BSN and is still alive. Just fast and reliable. Thank you DM

A:laptop purchase with i7

Unlikely you would need the power of an i7. An upper level i5 is very strong.

If the i7 is in your budget range, go ahead on.

Get a quad core. I'm not sure off hand if there are dual-core i5s anyway.

If at all possible, get one with an SSD (solid state drive). She'll appreciate it every operating moment, whereas she might never appreciate an i7.

Most laptops will have only one hard drive, so presumably you'd get one with maybe a 250 or 500 GB SSD. If you buy one that has two hard drives, you'd likely have Windows on the SSD and use the standard hard drive for storage.

I'd say the better way to go would be to get a machine with one hard drive--an SSD, and then use an external hard drive for backup and/or more storage if needed.

You can always get an add-on keyboard to bypass the laptop's keyboard.

Battery life: read reviews for info on that. The harder you work the machine, the lower the battery life, but there have been a lot of improvements in that area in the last few years.

As for specific recommendations, I can't make any as I don't use laptops. The usual suspects would be Dell, HP, Lenovo, and maybe Toshiba. Maybe Asus? I'd avoid Acer due to horror stories about customer service. I wouldn't expect stellar customer service for any of them--just hope you don't need to use it.

Find a few prospective machines in your price range and post links to them so we can have a look.

If an older laptop is purchased from ebay is there a way to get a set of new quick restore cd's for the laptop?  (the laptop does not have the os) it is a 7720 with no operating system what so ever--
the laptop I believe originally had the windows 7 operating system installed?
Does a new operating system have to be purchased through dell or can the quick restore cd's be purchased through dell to bring the computer back to original defaults?

A:Ebay Purchase

Hello!  You have several options with their own unique problems.  First of all you can follow the information found here to download or order recovery media.  Dell is transitioning to an ISO download format so you may be able to download the complete ISO restore media on your own.  There is also a form you can fill out to possibly acquire dvd's that have the restore programs on them.
A problem with both those solutions is you need to transfer the ownership information and put it in your name.  You can follow the information to transfer the ownership here.
Lastly you may have to acquire a copy of Windows 7.  If you can find an OEM version of Windows 7, there should be a COA sticker on the bottom of the laptop or behind the battery that has your code needed to activate it.  Then you can go to dell's support page and download the drivers on your own and install them fresh that way.

Right now I'm running XP pro on a P3 547 MHz processor with 192 RAM (not sure which type but probably old RAM). My friend who works for a computer place said he could get me an Intel 2.4 Celeron Processor + Biostar 8668D Motherboard (with onboard Video, Lan, Sound) + Case and 256 DDR PC3200 RAM for $220. Are Biostar motherboards reliable, and is the price for all this stuff good? I don't really know the performace rate on Celerons, I always guessed it was equivalent to a P3. How much of an improvement is this over my existing hardware?

And also could someone give me some kind of chart that explains the numbers and types of RAM? I know PC3200 is better than PC2700 and so forth, but then it gets into SDRAM at PC100 and PC133, thats where I get mixed up.

Thanks in advance.

A:How smart is this purchase?

The prices are OK, but if I were upgrading, I think I'd move right past a 2.4ghz Celeron and go for a faster P4. The Biostar MB's are also lower end, and I'd want something a bit higher end.

I am thinking of making a possible return to Kaspersky. In my country, I am getting it for dirt cheap price, and therefore, it's very difficult to resist the temptation. Greetings. I am in the neighborhood for a Laptop. Our local Best Buy store has a Toshiba Laptop A665-S6050. among other things it comes with a 12 cell battery, 500 GB HDD, Core i-3 proc, 4 GB DDR3 RAM.

From what I have been told to look for, this has it all. The tech guys at work favor Dell or Toshiba. Consumer Reports shows favorable ratings for Dell, HP and Toshiba.

I am at the point of having over analyzed laptops and am temporarily burned out from looking.

My biggest concern is Customer Service/Tech Support. Toshiba has been beaten up since moving CS to Manila.
(My cynical side says all CS departments are likely equal depending on day and rep you talk to...)

A:Which laptop to purchase

I've you looked at QVC and HSN for laptop deals. They offer more CS/TS than you get from retail. QVC is more upscale they feature HP /DELL/ ACER as HSN ACER/Gateway. HSN is cheaper, price are 599 to 799 and QVC prices are 699 to 1099. Great part about them you don't have to pay full price if you got on the 4-6 months no interest flex pay deal and most have shipping for free and no tax depends on your state and if you order online. Delivery is quick!

HP are no. 1 in laptops sells followed by ACER (acer makes Gateway and emachine), then DELL and the rest.

What you're looking for is:

Intel i-core 3 or 5
500GB or better HDD
12-13 cell battery
4GB min 6GB for RAM
10/100/1000mb/s for wired NIC
802.11(a,b,g,n) for wireless NIC (note 802.11a is rare in a laptop and dual band also)
web cam
HDMI port
4 USB ports
15.6 min or 17.3 (1080p full HD)
LED/LCD Ultra-Brite Screen than the Matt type. On Blue-Ray laptop the screen is sharper
DVDRW or Blue-Ray

Get extra battery and power supply they do come in handly.
Also retail price deals not always as good as online or HSN or QVC deals.

If you going to buy it from BB, get HP or ACER. DELLs are good for business model Latitude.

A:Which WD External HD To Purchase ?

Western Digital bought Hitachi's hard drive business 3 or 4 years ago, but both brand names are still in use. I don't know if Hitachi is possibly semi-independent within WD and has hard drive designs that are noticeably different from WD. That's possible, but I don't know how to confirm it.

If you don't need portability, you might consider an internal rather than an external. You'd gain speed since your data would not have to negotiate the USB interface at all, you'd avoid issues related to the enclosure, and you wouldn't have any worries about a wall wart.

I have a second internal that is purely for backup purposes. I've never even owned an external. I additionally make occasional backups to a third internal in an external dock, but the second internal is my workhorse backup drive. Completely backs up about 95,000 files and rarely takes more than 70 seconds to do so.

You're never going to avoid the issue of being sickened by the number of negative reviews you see for whatever drive strikes your fancy. Try to avert your eyes. Otherwise, take into consideration that some of that is user error and that those who have a poor experience with a particular brand/model are much more likely to make a review than those who were satisfied.

I chased my tail on this issue for several months last year when I was shopping for a new second internal drive. All of it pointless although I was emotionally incapable of doing otherwise. Eventually, you have to hold your nose and take the plunge. Try to avoid the idea that you can get worthwhile "reliability" info. Instead, think about price and customer service.

A:Which router to purchase g or n

G is standardize where N is not standard yet. N is in Draft mode. Just like you have draft some documents and haven't finished yet to be process. G can give you 54 to 125mbps but mostly you'll get about 48 to 54mbps on average. N they rate it has 300mbps but in real time you only get 240 to 270mbps. N is suppose to have greater range than current G. G or N is not going to make your internet connection faster, it's just a wireless method to speed data from one wireless device to another wireless device. Data is moved in mbps so the more you can move the data the move it will go faster.

You had asked which router to buy if you have the money you might want to get Dlink DIR-655 A3 hardware and 1.11 firmware or better, which is more heavy duty and has both G and N wireless features or it can be use as wired router only. Your choice. Dlink has gaming router they're designed to make the online gaming experience faster and reduce lag (time). DGL-4500 is dual band is has 2.4GHz for G and 2.4GHz/5.0GHz for N. Now you can only operate in either 2.4GHz or 5.0GHz band can do both at the same time. That's where everyone gets confused. Dlink has DIR-855 it really hasn't seen prime time yet it has been release then pulled back do to internal problems. Last I've heard it has been delayed to unknown date, so it won't be July 2008. That router is suppose to be able to do 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz at the same time and to be use at the same time. Might sound good on paper but not happening yet!

So you have to decided get gaming router DGL-4500 or a home/office/small business router? DIR-655. If you want to save money you can purchased for a few bucks less it the Trendnet 633-GR just like DIR-655 but it's made for gaming. Also has WDS feature which would make it a 100% wireless access point without the need of using Ethernet cabling running from one wireless router to the another but being used as wireless access point. So in other words if you had two 633-GR you could use one as a WDS to extend the range and make wired devices wireless. The DIR-655 doesn't have that option. You have to buy a WDS device DAP1522 instead. DIR-655 could be use as wireless access point but then you need to run a wired connection to .

Now remember the speed of the internet depends on the speed you're paying for from your ISP.

I am upgrading my HP PAVILLION DV1000 NOTEBOOK from 512mb to 1gb but I have received mixed reviews in what kind to purchase. I may sound like a newb but is there a difference between SDRAM and SODIMM? I got a link from someone for everest and it told me I already have SDRAM, however, every where else says laptops use SODIMM. SDRAM is remarkably cheaper and if i can use that, i would like to.

Also, is it possible to use 400 mhz as opposed to the recommended 333? Sorry for sounding like a newb. Thanks to anyone who can help.

I'm considering to buy a desktop PC but still confused with which CPU to choose. The one with AMD Athlon 64 +3700 2.2GHz is 380$, while the one with Intel PD DualCore 2.66 GHz costs 440$. I want my computer to be fast to run many software programs. Are the two much different in speed? I am pretty tight on budget so... I would really appreciate anyone's help. Thank you.

A:Confusing about PC purchase

If you can afford the Intel I would go that way. Intel c2d benchmarks are a good deal faster than that AMD at the moment. If you don't stress a system too much in your daily use, and the AMD system has more features than the Intel sys such as mem, drivespace, etc, then go that way. If performance matters, get the Intel.

Thanks for any prompt responses,

A:can you list what I need to purchase?

All you need is a wireless router, assuming that you have a broadband modem that supports Ethernet connections. If you have a USB-only broadband modem, you'll need to consider replacing it. As far as picking up the router, I'd shop the bargain pages, that's where I get my stuff.

I'd also stick to the major brands, D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, SMC, etc. for the router.

I found a vendor with i7 desktop systems (two) each with 8 GB and with Home Premium Windows 7 64-bit and the price of each is about a hundred dollars less than the most recent time I had checked. In order to do XP emulation, though, I would prefer an i7 system (desktop) which supports that (Ultimate? or Business). Also wondering about one which includes HDTV tuner as well. I am not in a hurry.

A:purchase new i7 with Ultimate Win 7

If you are going to spend the money I would go for the Ultimate edition.
As for the HDTV Tuner that would be a hardware component of the machine.

Question is where are you looking? Can you post a link to these machine so we can look and advise more.

Hello everyone. I am currently building a new computer and have purchased the 8800 GTS 512MB graphics card to go into it. I am currently trying to decide which motherboard I should purchase:

EVGA nForce 780i SLI 3xPCI-E x16 PCI-E 2.0 Socket 775 Motherboard A1 Version (132-CK-NF78-A1) - EVGA

Asus STRIKER EXTREME LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX The Ultimate Gaming Motherboard - Asus

I know that the ASUS Striker is supposed to be the best out there and is currently listed for $324.99. But the EVGA 780i is brand new and is actually cheaper than the ASUS at $299.99. Price doesn't matter to me. I just want to get the one that will run best with the graphics card. Any recommendations or suggestions would be great. Thanks

Just to name a few.

A:hardware purchase

I've bought a motherboard and CPU from, they were very good, and I also bought a mobo/CPU from, who were also very good. I've bought tons of things off of eBay, RAM, hubs, hard drives, and other random computer parts, and all my experiences have been good with that. I've also bought some fans and LED's from, and from, both of which I had no problems with.

The many reinstall procedures throughout the various forums mention downloading a large (3GB) file from MS or some other sites. One example is GSP1RMCHPFRER_EN_DVD, which a combination of an original Win-7 64-bit install with SP-1 included. Downloading can take about 4 hours...taking a huge chance that the download will finish and be error-free. Is this file available for purchase on a DVD from a reliable source? [Two attempts at downloading have resulting in a "corrupt file" error message when reading the DVD as part of the reinstall process. Non matches via DM5 hash totals would indicate some kind of corruption.] Thank you.

A:Reinstall ISO available for purchase on DVD?

Dell might sell you a Reinstallation DVD for your PC which has nothing added except Activation and a logo.

What I suggest is you follow Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which will result in a perfect install if you stick with the steps given.

To protect your download integrity against connection loss what I would do is install Firefox and its add on Down Them All download manager which lets downloads stop and start.

Whatever the source was, it was legit - he has a VERY HIGH networking guru position/income to protect. I couldn't demonstrate my ignorance, so I'm bringin' it here

A:Purchase license from MS?

I recently purchased the windows 7 installation files for 32 and 64 bit from a very reputable person on ebay. I unzipped the files using his program and they checked out using crc and comparing them with the files on his download site. I saved them on my portable hard drive which is a verbatim 160gig usb. When I tried to burn the program onto a disc there were about 3 megabites missing after the burn. attempts at installation onto the new computer gave me the message: NTLDR is missing. That told me that not all the necessary stuff got to the disc thru the burning process.
My question is: how do you ensure that what you are burning all gets burned?
I would appreciate comments from anyone who has resolved this situation, or those who know, thanks.

I have a new desktop and a new laptop and both have Windows Vista on them. I do not have a copy of the disks for myself as I bought them refurbished and got great deals from a very trusted seller. I like to have back-up disks on hand in case I need them so which copy of VISTA should I purchase? Also do I get a 32bit or a 64bit?

I see so many upgrades and signature editions out there so it makes it hard to tell which one to get. Thanks all!

A:Which VISTA should I purchase?

Well mr.docsven as far as I know the 64-bit system version is a better choice for the reason of running programs at a 64 bit rate, I think it can run programs more efficiently and allows you to do more.

Just my opinion on question #3. The average individual is usually fine with 4GBs; however, 8GBs would be great but I think 16GBs is really overkill but if money is no object and/or you perceive the need, then go for it. Good luck.
