My big budget custom PC build

Q: My big budget custom PC build

I have decided that I need a new PC and I have no idea what custom parts to choose; I want to build it myself, I want the best high end parts possible in an Intel build that can be overclocked when I need to. The price has to include at least 3 monitors and it needs to look EPIC like with LEDs, a case with a window etc. I have 3000-3500 to spend on it. Please help me choose the parts, if someone could find them all in one place e.g Amazon so it saves me some time. The rig is for gaming, video editing and rendering sometimes at the same time.
Thanks guys,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Wait until Ivy Bridge-E comes out in early September, a 4930K with a couple of GTX 770/780's should be within your budget.

In the meantime have a look at what monitors to get, I.e. if you want 120Hz, IPS, size, resolution, etc.

A:Budget Build - Custom Desktop - Suggestions?

Either buy a case without a pw supply and then purchase a decent one OR buy an antec case with a pw supply. What you have selected is what I call a junk unit. Really just think about it for a min or two. A decent 500W pw supply alone is going to cost you $50~75 or so. What kind of quality do you think you are going to get for $29 case and pw supply?

This is one item you do NOT want to go cheap. Here is an example of a quality pw supply for an average build.

Hi, It's my first time to build a custom PC, and I would like one that I could play a lot of games like diablo 3, NBA 2K12, Dragon Age 2 and other high specs game. The problem is I don't know how to build a custom pc. I don't know what parts work with other parts and what parts doesn't synchronize with the other. Just seeing AMD FX something vs Intel i3 gets my mind baffled.

Really need some suggestions on what to get. Thanks in advance. Oh and also If it's compatible with a 2TB HDD. Thanks again!

A:PC build, £700 budget

Overall a decent choice of components. I'm not a fan of Akasa products at all, this CM Hyper 212 Evo has great performance for the price.

Not sure how much budget you have left but I'd try to work an SSD into the build, when it comes to general PC usage it will be the most noticeable difference from your old PC. 128GB drives are really cheap nowadays. If you need to save some money then I'd say reuse your old hard drive as a storage drive, 40 for 500GB isn't great value anyway.

The 3570K is 14 cheaper on Amazon btw.

You can save money on the power supply and the memory, but first, what are your planned uses of the new computer.
Look at memory at www.crucial.com or Directron.com
Consider a quality power supply, but you don't need more than 450 o4 500 W if it is truly a good one.
The Western Digital Black is a good choice,as is the LG
Be very certain your motherboard will fit the case you get... when the CPU and fan are included.

Nice build there. You could go with this cooler instead though, for $10 more. The added cooling performance is worth it, as is the better reliability. You can spend less on the PSU too and get this one, which will also be more than sufficient.

As for a video card, go with an HD 3650 over a 2600XT. Runs cooler and has better features to boot.

Hi guys! as a general novice to computers, I jumped in at the deep end, and will try to build a gaming pc (or at least be shown to by my dad!). but as a novice, I would like some suggestion on what bits of kit to buy, with a few requirements:
EVERYTHING must play nice with each other
it must be capable to run diablo 3, guild wars, minecraft/tekkit, gnomoria, and TF2
the maximum budget would be around 300.

Any and all suggestion will be appreciated, and thanks in advance

A:Trying to build a gaming PC on a budget

Hey mate.

First thing's first, 300 is a pretty damn tight budget for any computer, let alone a gaming pc, so don't be expecting anything too mind-blowing.
to get you started, I'm gonna assume you live in the UK so we'll be using www.SCAN.co.uk for your purchases.

Before we go any further, could you tell us a few things:
- Do you already own peripherals? (monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers)
- Do you have a copy of windows, or will we need to buy one?
- Do you have any parts you can re-use from elsewhere? (HDD, Optical drive, etc.)
- Is there any way you can raise your budget? like I said before, 300 is pretty darn tight.

Try to give us as much information as possible - help us help you

I would recommend this build instead:

Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 AMD 740G uATX Motherboard - Retail - $52.99 + free shipping
AMD Athlon X2 7850 Kuma 2.8GHz Black Edition CPU - Retail - $60.00 + free shipping

Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express 2.0 x16 Graphics Card - Retail - $93.24 + free shipping
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - OEM - $56.99 + free shipping
Corsair CMPSU-400CX 400W PSU with Active PFC - Retail - $49.99 ($39.99 after $10 rebate) + free shipping
Rosewill Wind Ryder RZLS142A-P BK Dual 120mm Cooling Fans and Mesh Design Front Panel Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail - $39.99 + free shipping
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit - OEM - $99.99 + free shipping
Grand Total = $500 approximately. Everything ships free.

If your friend can stretch their budget a bit, I recommend this card instead of the HD 4830.

Also, look at this page to see if and how your friend can get their copy of the Windows 7 equivalent of Vista Home Premium, for only the cost of S&H ($9.99). I'm not sure whether or not that particular version of Vista is eligible, but if it is, then your friend's in luck.

Hi guys,
Been years since I've posted on here or any PC forums.
I've been looking at upgrading my POS 6yr old computer and its finally died on me completely.
Looking at all this new stuff since I've been gone and its like a whole new world.
I've done a lot of computer stuff before; modding and building etc so I'm not completely illiterate, just scared by all the new models and numbers..

Looking at spending from $300-$600 preferably the lower end of that scale.

Wanting: Reasonably fast computer to get me though the next many many years. I do a reasonable amount of graphic design so decent processing power and a graphics card that will handle heavy adobe use and be able to run dual monitors.
Would probably like to mod the case too.

A:Budget AMD build need some suggestions

You need a good...but not great mobo and a great cpu. After you get your motherboard you will need to be sure that your pre selected ram will be compatible. It's better to get your motherboard and cpu bundle, then select the best ram for the job. Luckily, Corsair has a good compatibility to product ratio. I had to trade back OCZ revision 2 for Corsair. My Corsair (4x1gig) has 4-4-4-12- latency numbers @ 400 mhz. I only go 5-5-5-18 when over clocking. You will get a lot of opinions about your choices...I say 'use what I use'. ASUS P5N-E SLI mobo and an INTEL cpu. E6750 is a good buy. It's around $200...=2.66...can O'C well. The ASUS is about $120. Don't forget a PSU and a Video processor.

The second build is the better one.

You can also do with a cheaper motherboard, like a 760G-based one, especially if you are only going to use the onboard video card.

alright Im going to build a desktop for my budget Phenom build... II $400 x3 fiance real soon as soon as I figure out what the right stuff is to order I will order it she is really ONLY going to use it to play with her photos with photoshop and store them on the internal hard drive I also got her a gb external and $400 budget build... Phenom II x3 she might burn cds for each album or something but we have a PS and she doesnt even play that and if she does play games it will be things like worms or bejeweled etc so the integrated graphics will completely handle her gaming needs now I think the cpu and ram is more important for editing photos personally but people tell me to get a good gpu these are people who dont know what they are talking about though I would like to hear from someone who does I just figure since it is a static image that she is basically applying different filters too and not a constantly refreshing crazy D environment being rendered that the GPU wasnt important right now she has a laptop with a turion MK gb ddr and Nvidia graphics integrated and she is lately complaining about its speed but for a while she was more than fine with it not too far back so this desktop doesnt have to be spectacular or anything ok so here is what I was thinking MOBO - ASUS M N T-M V - http www newegg com Product Product aspx Item N E - CPU - AMD Phenom II X Black Edition - http www newegg com Product Product aspx Item N E - OR AMD Phenom II X Black Edition - http www newegg com Product Product aspx Item N E - I have read of being able to unlock the th core or the rd and th on the x they are priced basically the same and one has a clock speed of MHz higher but I heard that sometimes the unlocked cores arent always stable now if I ended up not unlocking the cores I would rather it be a tad bit slower triple core than a tad bit faster dual core am I thinking correctly HDD - SAMSUNG Spinpoint F HD SJ TB RPM MB Cache - http www newegg com Product Product aspx Item N E - RAM - x for GB Mushkin Enhanced Silverline GB -Pin DDR SDRAM DDR - http www newegg com Product Product aspx Item N E - DVDR - http www newegg com Product Product aspx Item N E - CASE - APEX PC- -C - http www newegg com Product Product aspx Item N E - thats about bucks I already have a mouse and KB her monitor isnt included in the budget so that leaves only bucks for the PSU thermal paste and cpu heatsink I am possibly only going to go with a single stick of GB RAM to have a little more money for the PSU and heatsink and I can go a little past bucks so question should I change anything from the list which CPU should I go with how large of a PSU would I need possibly adding another DVD drive down the road and thats if I did add a graphics card later on it would be something cheap like a used ati or something with even lower performance than that unless read number is a good graphics card really beneficial for photoshop GB ram cheap video card OR GB ram integrated video I plan on unlocking either one to a quad core probably no OC for quite a while until she starts talking about upgrades is this heatsink sufficient http www newegg com Product Product aspx Item N E or http www newegg com Product Product aspx Item N E I have no idea how much room I will have though so I have no idea on which heatsink to get until I get it all together and then measure which is what I might end up doing thanks in advance nbsp

Okay guys, instead of upgrading my pc, im going to build a budget gaming pc.
My current choices are,

CASE- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146027

CPU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103649

Motherboard- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128387

OS- Windows 7 64bit

RAM- i need a good(cheap) price on 4 Gigs of RAM, that fits this motherboard. Link please?

HDD- Does http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2795126&CatId=139 fit the motherboard? if not,
Can someone please give me a link on what HDD fits, thats around 500GB and in between $50-$100?

I cant think of anything else besides a video card that i need, anything else thats cheap and will make the build better will be very helpful.

Why not get everything from newegg, comes with the same single shipping costs, also lower prices... The same hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145247

You will need a power supply, and on deciding what kind of one, we'd need to know what kind of a graphics card you're going to use. Without knowing, I'd just recommend something that will power just about anything you might have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005

If you don't absolutely want an orange case, you could cut 10$ off by getting the black version: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146025
And here's another orange case you might want to take a peek at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156190 (also availabe in other colors, just see cases, Raidmax)

A:Unlimited budget PC build

I had in mind to get a intel Core i7-3770K processor.
For graphics an AMD Radeon HD 7970.
For RAM I suggest 16GB being enough.
And a Samsung 256GB 2.5" SATA III SSD for storage of the OS and other software.Click to expand...

This sound like a good choice. You can get a motherboard with a built in wifi adapter.

A:Low budget build. What do you think? See any problems?

You already have a thread on your computer build so why open this new one. The parts listed above will work together great. You can not upgrade a 32 bit windows to 64 bit, it just wont let you so you will have to do a fresh installment of Windows 7 64 bit. If you have your games on steam all you have to do is save the C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps folder to another computer or HDD and restore it when your done with the new installment of Windows 7 64 bit. If your games are not on steam then yes you will have reinstall them.

Hi I was looking to build a new PC for my dad for father's day or his birthday and he would use it to run two small businesses and also for media (such as watching high definition movies, video/audio editing, photoshop, etc.) I would also be using it to game whenever I come home from college but thats not as important as fulfilling all his needs.

My budget would be around $1000 to $1500 as previously stated in the title. I won't be needing any peripherals, and I plan on using the cooler master haf x tower.

Any suggestions on the rest of the build? This would be the first build by myself but I've helped and observed a few other builds. Any help would be appreciated!

A:New PC build, budget $1000 to $1500

If you could be a little more specific about what you'll need it for; running a small businesses is broad.

Do you need a blu ray drive?
I suggested two 2TB drives in RAID I for data redundancy, which I would think might be important, but that's to your discretion; same goes for the capacity.

I would like to build an HTPC but have no idea where to begin or what I would need to achieve what I want but I can give you an idea of my budget & what I would like to be able to do with the setup if it helps, so here goes:
Budget: £300 (Roughly)
Functionality:
Rip old DVDs & Bluray to HDD
Record from Sky satellite TV to HDD
Run Plex for media streaming
Have it powerful enough to possibly run steam
Surf the net
Have a Blu-Ray/DVD optical drive to play US titles (just as an extra)
Would this be possible for the money?
As I said I know what I want to do but don't know A) where to start or B) If it's possible.
Thanks for the help folks.

A:Advice & suggestions on first build under $3k budget

direct quote from member lehpron from the EVGA forums, sorry its huge but this sums up why I chose the type of mobo, GPU and CPU. but of course still subject to change

"Most modern games are threaded for between 2-4 cores, and it has been a slow progress adoption since quads have been around for six years, duals for eight years. meaning, a 6-core won't make a difference today. New games take 2-3 years to make from the ground up, so in that time, it will make a quad that much more important. Only get the 6-core for your professional work, not for gaming.

3770K is a 22nm quad and half the die area (thus half the actual power and thermals if set at the same frequency) as 32nm i7-3900's 6-cores; mathematically, they should overclock better, but Intel differed from tradition of soddering the CPU die to the IHS (integrated heat spreader) by using a thermal grease with Ivy Bridge which tends to artificially raise temperaturess. This prevents anyone from really being able to push it except for those using cryogenics; so in the end, all Sandy and Ivy processors reach a max of approx 5GHz regardless of number of cores.

So it all comes down to the board really; X79 can support up to 4-way SLI (in quad x8, or a pair of full x16) configs while Z77 is limited to just dual x8's. If you're serious about longitivity in terms of having the room for future graphics cards and not change the board (which definitely need more bandwidth than current), then X79 is the only option. For CPU, either get quad 3820 or 6-core 3930K depending on how often your professional uses need 12-threads or not.

BTW, as for the GTX670's, get the 4GB card. We'll soon see a new standard for mainstream monitors that used to be the reign of medicial professionals, their total single display res equals to a modern multi-display setup. So if you intend on at least one in the next two years and not upgrading graphics for it, then you should plan ahead with a 4GB model and get 3-way SLI by then to compensate.

TBGAPowa

Really looking for longevity and durability I chose a gtx 670 in hopes of being able to run graphic intensive art programs and gaming on high settings for at least two years before upgrade/new build.
This part will require an edit for realism.

In two years, a pair of GTX670 will have the performance equivalency of a future mainstream card (I.e. "GTS850" )and unable to run those games appearing then at high details without having the frame rates dip whatever is high-end at time. So either plan to get into 3-way or 4-way SLI (meaning you need to get a 4-way capable board in the first place, I.e. X79), think about upgrading your graphics card much earlier than two years, or settle for less visuals as times passes especially if you plan a higher resolution monitor someday. Most games are GPU-intensive, so if your resolution doubles the pixels, you cut your frame rates in half.

The only way you can truly have longivity is if your expectation is much lower than what is available for purchase. If you want max detail at smooth rates, then that is only possible today, it isn't possible next year with this year's configuration running next year's games. Just so you know, many folks on enthusiast websites like these upgrade often as a hobby, they choose to keep up with technology in order to maintain their preference level in every new game; I personally see it as a hassle. So you have to decide your upgrade tendencies beforehand and plan ahead, beyond this upcoming build. "

A challage to build a budget gaming pc

He is an idea I thought would be a challage for some. Make a budget gaming system for under $300. Thats what I am working on right now. So far I am under buget with some decent parts. Maybe not top of the line but usable for mild gaming.

A:A challenge to build a budget gaming pc

are semperons good for mild gaming

I am trying to build a budget pc using the semperon, 512mb of ram and 128mb 275mhz graphics card. I just wanted to know if this setup would play most games out today like ut 2004, underground 2, half life 2, swat 4 on decent performance settings.

Well I was gonna suggest a 7850 for playing BF3 but looking at the prices on that website it seems to be almost twice as expensive as the 7770. In the UK the 2GB 7850 is only about 40-50% more than the 1GB 7770, and the gap shrinks with the 1GB 7850. Some weird pricing going on...

That's a great build for the price, only suggestion I would make is that your friend can download the Windows 8 Release Preview and then upgrade for US$40 when it comes out.

Well, my computer finally broke down (I'm on my brothers computer).
And I need a new one, but don't know where to start. Could anybody build me the best computer with this budget?

Budget: 1000$

I need this computer to have a lot of RAM for editing on programs such as Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro. A computer geared to edit on AE would be my ideal computer. Also, I need a firewire port handy right in front as well as at least two USB 2.0 slots.

My preferred OS is the Windows 7 professional. (is it out yet?) And It would be great if this computer could run the Windows XP Mode.

For internet, I already have a "Linksys Wireless-N USB Network Adapter with Dual-Brand"
So I guess i can just plug this into the new computer.

Right now, I'm divided between the Intel E5200 or the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ based on just looking through some reviews on Newegg and asking a few people, but I don't know if those are my best options, based on cost/performance ratio. I would welcome any recommendations.

Hi,
I am planning a general use budget build around a Pentium G860 CPU.
What is a quality/cost effective motherboard for this that would do the job for a few years?
Also any recommendation for a graphics card?
No o/c, sli, xf,movies, etc.
Already have monitor(1440x900), mouse, keyboard, speakers
Thanks for your help, it is appreciated

For that CPU, I would say any motherboard that will fit your case.

The CPU has integrated graphics built in, do you want more graphical power than the integrated graphics has to offer?

Wow.. 3 grand is a friggin lot.. i wish i had that when i was building my pc.. so i'm getting that this is going to be a gaming rig 1st, media/etc 2nd? what part of oz you at and are you going to source parts from online shops or pc shops? is this just budget for the tower or tower plus monitor?

how come you're not getting the core2 duos? the lowest one (e6400) is about the same as a P.D, $335+/-, minus the mobo.. but thats depending what P.D you get, since there are heaps of different ones, including the dual/single core (for the P.Ds) and the extreme editions of both of them, and where you get them..

i think you were thinking about this Zalman?

get a good quality PSU is your main thing, and i'd recomend a seagate hdd, because their warranty rocks . Creative X-Fi for your audio card, or a M-audio etc if you are gonna do some pro/hobby audio recording..

i'd probably be useless telling you what vid card to get, but thats ok, theres other guys that know a whole lot of deal about them, and so same with overclocking... what other things you thinking about on your gear?

I have a budget around 600-900

Some musts I guess are a decent video card, (i prefer 8800) idc what company or brand
19 inch monitor, (lcd) I'm using a AL19W Acer, wouldn't mind getting a second one
Blu ray drive? lol ( prolly takes this way outa my money range)
If not, any 2 drives would work fine for me (dvd of course, budget xD)
IDC about hard drive space, i don't have that much crap, (250gb would probably be more than enough)
EDIT:: o yeah, I like vista (i know i'm wierd) it will probably require 2gb ram like my current

Games i'm looking to play are HL2 mods etc., call of duty 4, diablo, starcraft, counter strike

Help me! thanks.

I'll check forums often to answer questions

I don't mind newegg purchases although i would prefer amazon (since no tax for CA residents)

hehe.

Do you have any ideas what this means?

A:Custom build help

When you are seeking help you need to post your system component specs. Motherboard; EXACT make, model and revision (if applicable). Processor; EXACT make, model and stepping. Memory; EXACT make and model. Graphics Card (if installed); EXACT make and model. Power Supply; EXACT make and model. Provide links to the components. Also post the operating system.

No one can diagnose a problem without knowing the EXACT components you used in the build.

A:Build for a custom, what do you think?

processor grease 8.99 - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - N82E16835100007Click to expand...

I would ditch that unless your an overclocker, which you don't look like. If you are in fact, an overclocker, I point you toward a sturdy cooler and a better processor, i'm sure the e5200 isn't going to break any records, but it is a good CPU for the price.

PNY is not know for their quality or performance, actually I don't know them at all. OCZ Vista Upgrade 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2VU8004GK - Retail, but staying with the PNY seems just fine, I like OCZ more though.

The powersupply is a weak point, go with the CORSAIR CMPSU-400CX 400W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail at $60.

Building requirement 3.50 - Rosewill RTK-002 Anti-Static Wrist Strap - N82E16899261005Click to expand...

That isn't necessary but if it makes you feel better, and you don't mind buying one.

SAPPHIRE 100255HDMI Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - Retail is a MUCH better graphics card, a little bit more expensive, the 9400 isn't very good.

GIGABYTE GA-EP43-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail is a superior motherboard, but it is more expensive and no doubt you could live off the one you mentioned above.

Now I don't know about the motherboard, I can't say anything about that. The price...well, you could switch to an AMD build and save some money for similar performance, and you can stick with the parts you mentioned, but mine have a better bang for the buck .

I play source games and I want to be able to record sometimes and get at least 30 fps on most games, the graphics quality must be around med-high.

Hello, I am new to techspot and I just founded by accident. I do have a custom build computer that has an asus motherboard and an Amd athlon processor, 2700+ or 1.30GHZ. I would like to upgrade my cpu and motherboard but I don't know what would be the next level in order to upgrade them. Of course, I want to keep on using asus computer parts. Can anyone give me a suggestion as to how I should upgrade my custom build pc? I would sincerely appreciate it.
Thanx
Johnny

Hey Peeps!

I just had my first BSOD on my custom build. Any help in figuring out what caused this would be greatly appreciated.

It happened when I was away from my machine, while playing a playlist on youtube and having other windows open on 2 separate browsers; Chrome & Firefox.

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:

Is this a decent build? Also should I go retail or OEM with Windows OS ANd what are the differences between OEM and Retail?? Thanks guys for any input also this will be my first build so any advice isappreciated Also something else...Is there any type of software I can use to make a recovery partition kind of like the ones that Dell Puts onto their pcs when u buy them?

Hi
Newbie here. just built a comp for my brother a few months ago and he recently started complaining about random bsods. i ran a couple tests (seatools, memtest, prime) and the hardware seems fine. i'm not familiar with windows 7 but hopefully i can get some answers. thanks in advance.

ps i installed windows 7 from an iso i bought through the windows student discount program. it was an upgrade disc, but i did the trick to do it as a clean install.

Look into an H50 cooler, I have heard it does better with higher flow fans (For future overclocking or whatever) Also just to warn you, it sounds like there has been a spike in HD prices, so maybe wait on that 3tb drive for a while. Sounds like they are going up in price.

Otherwise it looks good to me.

Make sure the motherboard isn't touching anything it shouldn't.

Sounds like it could be shorting out.

Passed that it could be an psu issue.

The system looks good. You could get yourself a cheaper case like the CM-690 or an Antec 900. Also, the Xigmatek HDT S1283 or Scythe Katana will be a better CPU cooler for cheaper.

Firstly, when it turns on. I turn it on, it will then turn itself off and on, off and on anywhere from 5 - 20 times before properly turning on and staying on.. what is this about?! Click to expand...

I'm not going to be much help, but if it switches off immediately this is usually a sign of a major problem such as the CPU fan not spinning properly because of a cable stuck in it or something. Have you tried turning it on with the case open so you can see the CPU fan to check if it moves?

spudy12 said:

Next if I install the intel hd4000 drivers for the onboard graphics, it will work fine till reboot, then it'll turn on and everything will come up with errors then it will blue screen. I have to go back in to safemode and uninstall the driver so I can use it. Only works with standard VGA driver. Click to expand...

I've had something similar in the past with a bad driver. If there are any other/older versions of the driver on the intel website, try those.

spudy12 said:

I then decided to put my graphics card in, (Nvidia GTX 295) installed the latest drivers, disabled onboard (even in BIOS) and this will also cause it to blue screen.Click to expand...

Weird. Have you completely cleared the old drivers out just to be sure there isn't a conflict?

Hi Kimbroughhg.

When there are multiple bugchecks without any finite probable cause, the first impression goes to hardware. Some of the crash dumps also indicates it.

Code:
BugCheck A, {2db, 2, 1, fffff8000229743d}

Probably caused by : hardware ( nt!KiTimerExpiration+1d )

Followup: MachineOwner
---------

Code:
BugCheck 124, {0, fffffa800d268028, b0800000, 40151}

Probably caused by : AuthenticAMD

Followup: MachineOwner
---------
Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Stress test the CPU.
Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

Overclocked? It should be 4000 MHz.

Code:
CP F/M/S Manufacturer MHz
6 21,2,0 AuthenticAMD 4334
As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings.

If you have any hardware monitoring program, uninstall them for the time being, and also uninstall all the programs by ASUS.

Two more actions are must.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type ?msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the ?Startup? tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Let us know the results.

Hello,

I've been having persistent BSoD problems on a custom rig. It happens mostly when I'm away. Of the few times I have been at my computer at the time of crash, I saw no warning signs.

Basic system info:
Windows 7 Professional (x64) retail
Fresh installation in March onto SSD

Hardware - Custom Build
Built in January but uses some older parts:
CPU: AMD Phenom II 720
Mobo: ASUS M4A79XTD Evo
GPU: Evga GTS 250 superclocked (used this card for a few years now)
Ram: Kingston hyperx KHX1333C7D3K4 (2 x 2gb)
SSD: OCZ Vertex 2 E 60gb
PSU: COOLER MASTER GX Series RS750-ACAAE3-US 750W

No memtest detected issues as on late April
No prime95 errors or induced crashes as of late April
If there's any other information or tests that might help please let me know.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A good quality 600W would be fine. Good ie recommended brands; corsair [not builder series or cx] seasonic, pcpower&cooling, or FSP. Stay away from cheap pw supplies; the pw supply is one of the most critical components in the system.

Looks like a good choice of parts and should work well. My preference is for either gigabyte or asus mb however that one looks ok. As for a fan controller, you have a fan header for a case fan on the board. You do understand that you can use the mb to control the fan speed correct?

As an example, this asus board has 3 fan headers for case fans. I can tell you I use the above board with an overclocked fx8350 and it runs flawlessly.

Good Evening,
I recently had a computer custom built at my local Fry's (not so local though..) 2 weeks ago.
On the second day, the CPU was BSOD hourly, and after bring it to Fry's, they said the power supply was bad, and they replaced it.
I'm still having issues with random BSOD and would rather not bring it to Fry's to have them trouble shoot it for a few days, replace the "bad" component, and give it back to me with the same issue.
My CPU and Motherboard temps average 30-35c even while gaming.

I'm beyond the "return" time frame and only have 2 weeks of build support left from Fry's.
Can someone please decode what the errors are saying and possibly point me in the right direction?
Thank you soooo much!
Sean

Overclocking is the best way to make a system unstable, crash , freeze or blue screen. First logical steps in BSOD troubleshooting is nothing but reverting any changes made to the CPU/RAM frequency and voltage modifications. You should first uninstall "Asus AI suit III" otherwise it will auto overclock the system. Then enter BIOS setup and load "optimal default values".

You should also understand the merits and demerits of OC. There are certain situations where OC will benefit. Examples are "Autocad" and video rendering works. Those programs will show improved performance in higher clock speed. On the other hand, PC games are GPU centric and even the most CPU demanding games only require a basic quad core CPU like i5. None of today's games are capable of utilizing the full potential of your CPU and hence overclocking it is absolute unnecessary. By overclocking the CPU, you will get crashes instead of FPS increase.

A:Dell or Custom build?

Hello and welcome to TechSpot.

I know what nearly everybody on TechSpot will tell you: build your own!

You can look at the Dell and say, "Why, it's $200 cheaper than my own build." You have to consider longer-term costs, however.

Sure, Dell is able to buy the parts and assemble the computer for cheaper than you can buy the parts. Dell is able to do this, however, by using inferior-quality parts. If you buy from Newegg, you have much better-quality parts, and better upgradability, as some parts from Dell are not compatible with other parts, the kind you buy from Newegg. Often computers bought from big companies like that don't have many expansion slots, or not the right kind, so you can't put in a good video card if you decide to game.

Also, if you build your own, you don't have all the junky preinstalled software (like Norton AntiVirus).

Hope this helps a little.

Regards
