I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Notebook keyboard has stopped working. The touchpad appears to be ok. Also the battery light does not work although the battery charges ok. The virtual keyboard is ok. I have reset the unit back to factory settings which did not solve the problem. Windows 10 has been installed and uninstalled on the reset but the keyboard remained faulty. Everything was perfect until I passed through airport security a few days ago, although this unit has been through several times before. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a DELL Inspiron 6400 Laptop which I bought new about 7 years ago and the R letter on the keyboard does not function When I press it in the center like typing normally it does not type but if I press it on the right or top edge it works (sometimes)

Following the instructions I removed the keyboard but all the keys are part of one membrane and I don’t want to go any further in case I damage the membrane

What are my options? Is the membrane easily removed and will I be able to fix it?

Should I order a new keyboard from Dell or try to get a used one?

Is a new keyboard expensive?

My HP m9457c desk top with OEM wireless keyboard and mouse has been driving me nuts. During "normal" operation the keyboard has five (5) keys which when individually selected launch one of the following: Club hp, IE home page, mail, IE default Search page, or HP Help program. They still function when I select them...However, starting approximately 30-90 days ago, they started selecting themselves w/o my asking for them. Usually it is the HP help program that launches. Not as often comes the IE Search ( Google) pop up. This occurs whether or not I'm on the internet. Could be just playing a game or typing a letter in Word. Replaced batteries in keyboard and mouse-no fix. Not 100% certain the problem is the wireless. Avast reports no virus present. MY OS: Win Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. Need help please.

You may be having troubles with your device drivers, firmware, and/or software. Go to Device Manager by going to start / search box and type device manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears. Check each device for a red x, yellow ! or white ?. These identify devices with problems (probably drivers, but also conflicts or something else). Click on each for further details and troubleshooting tips. If you need to get drivers (and you should do so for at least the keyboard and the wireless adapter (not just drivers but firmware and software as well, if applicable) and any others you have time to do - they may help in ways beyond just resolving this problem), do so from the computer vendor or device manufacturer (NOT from Microsoft Updates). Proceed as follows to get the drivers: Once you have the drivers, you can install them through Device Manager as follows:

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hi, just got hold of a NB100 netbook, apart from the keyboard being TINY! am having problems getting key presses to register, if you stab the keys down they work, however normally touch typing intermittantly registers.

over 4 people have tried in the office today and all have had the same issue with keys not registering. if you lightly press the key and feel when the button is depressed over and over it randomly misses!

Ive search these forums and nobody has had any issues, could it just be faulty?

Hi all

I am completely stumped as my keyboard has gone haywire and am quite annoyed i cant fix it

Am running windows 7 on toshiba satellite pro laptop and was wondering if its a software or perhaps hardware issue.

Here is what is happening:

- Caps lock light doesnt stay on anymore but it flashes when i press it. It does still work properly though
- Left SHIFT key still works but when i press also creates this symbol ~ at the same time within UK keyboard. If i change to US keyboard then it enters the PIPE symbol.
- The ~ key above the tab key actually does this ?
- And the pipe key which is above the Enter key types this: #7

Does anyone have any idea on how i can sort this as its quite frustrating! Thanks for any ideas.

A:Keyboard Buttons Have Gone Faulty

Hi there asklink, Welcome to Seven Forums.

A quick search around on Google finds that a lot of people are having the same issue or issues with the keyboard.

I was looking on the toshiba forums and they suggest you perform a BIOS update to fix this issue.

If you should experience the above issue on your notebook, please perform a BIOS Update in order to rectify the problem.

Please download and install the latest BIOS Update package for your model from the Toshiba driver download page: TOSHIBA PC BIOS Support Country Selector

I have recently purchased a new blue flexible keyboard (US Layout with Kanji) anyway the left ctrl key (it only has one ctrl key) appears to have stopped working. It defintily worked until i changed the keyboard layout from uk to us in regional and language options. i'm pretty sure that isnt the issue though, because im on a completely different pc (with xp, uk layout) right now and the ctrl key still doesnt work.

Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas? a keyboard tester of some variety perhaps?

A:Dell Warranty - Faulty Hard Drive

Good question!

First, what brand is the hard drive? Just about every manufacturer has their own diagnostic software. Go to their site and download it, and test the hard drive yourself.

Then, if you feel you should still send it in, wipe it clean first, using tools such as Eraser.

Hope this helps,

Hi All,
I was diagnosing my Dell computer full of blue screens which i believe was hardware related. I decided to narrow down hard drive and memory. after testing the hard drive came out no errors and fine, after testing the memory one of my two 512 ram sticks had faults. I removed the bad one and left the other 512 stick in slot one and now for some reason the computer doesn't boot up properly. It goes to the BIOS, allows me to enter setup but after setup I get a black screen with a blinking curser at the top and stays like that, the hard drive seems to be just flashing constantly (as if loading) but doesn not seem to be loading the OS,

Anyone have any ideas what i could have done?

A:DELL Inspiron 5547 - faulty touchpad and other things

I ended up returning it to the store I bought it from, it was faulty and unrepairable. It costed me a lot of stress and arguing, because no one wanted me to return it (even DELL).
I needed to record a video about how bad the 5547 is and after that they eventually returned my money.
It was such a painful experience for me - this DELL was 5 times in the service, I needed to argue about this what I don't enjoy, and it was painful for my business as well. I was a loyal DELL customer, but I didn't even get a response on this forum about 5547, which should be retreated from the stores by the way (it's the worsest DELL laptop ever produced).
Because of this painful support, from the money I got back from 5547 I bought a HP laptop and it was cheaper and is much better!!! Goodbye, DELL.

I hv a Dell Latitude D600 with faulty thermal sensor that show constant 85celcius even just boot and the air that blown out were not even warm. The fan were always at fullspeed. It throttle down to the lowest speed(500mhz).

I did remove the heatsink n clean all dust

I did replace the thermal paste

i replace another processor to confirm that is not a faulty processor's thermal sensor

I tried to change power setting to 'Always On' and is still the same

I tried to overclock it using NHC but its still slow

Anyway that i can disable the temp throttle down?
I dont care if that overheat my laptop as if i have to use a laptop with 500mhz i rather try to cure it.
Btw this is an unused anymore,i just wanna try to fix/modify to make it fullspeed again.

I believe drivers? faulty BSOD 116 card or graphics faulty the initial crash was caused by overheating Based on the fact that I have gotten it to work for a short amount of time more on that later Booting up with the drivers for my graphics card enabled causes BSOD to appear but when it is disabled everything is fine I can boot into safe mode and I have already reinstalled windows My motherboard is Asus B M-e and my graphics card is Nvidia EV A GTX How I got it to work for a short amount of time I reinstalled windows and then installed my integrated Ethernet driver After that was out of the way I installed and used driver booster to install the rest of my drivers I then noticed there was a missing driver that the program could not install that was named Simple PCI Controller So I thought I should install that driver using my motherboard's driver installation disk It then worked up until I decided to change the settings in Nvidia Control panel I also do not know how faulty graphics cards behave so it might be my graphics card The game I was playing when this started was Life is Strange if that is needed

I recently bought a new, 3rd party power cord for my Toshiba Satellite L300 from eBay.
Recently I've noticed that my battery stops charging earlier and earlier. At first it stopped at 87%, then 83%, then 80% all in one week. I've had the computer for about a year which seems a bit early for it to start degrading so fast, so could it be the power cord?

The Toshiba cord says Model: PA-1750-29, Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 1.5A, Output: 19V[solid line above a dotted line]3.95A
The 3rd party cord says Model: PA-34671ACA, Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 19V[solid over dotted]3.95A

If the new cord is harmful to my battery, I can just solder its input plug onto the Toshiba charger (that's the only bit that was broken) but I'd rather not risk breaking two power cords if I don't need to.

Two times in the last week my monitor (a KDS visual sensations CRT) has come on with the image looking like an hourglass (wide at the top and bottom, pinched in the center). This happened imediately upon boot up and both times rebooting has returned the monitor to normal, leaving the computer running does not bring the problem back. Which is more likely, that my monitor is beginning to fail or maybe my graphics card (a saphire, ATI radeon 7000) is failing? Is there some way (other than swaping my monitor out and trying another as this seems so far to be an intermitent problem and may not arise when a new monitor is conected) to check and see which it may be?

I have a Dell Inspiron 2650, whose keyboard has suddenly gone freakish. About half the keys do nothing, while the others give me pop-up windows, bring up the control panel, and various other strange happenings. I tried to run the diagnostic CD that comes with the lappy, but the default selection is run "windows xp" and I can't get the down-arrow to work to select "run from CDRom". I tried booting with a Knoppix 4.0 CD and the keyboard actions are the same as with windows xp from the hardrive. I tried hooking an external keyboard to the mouse/keyboard port on the back and the results there are the same; external keyboard key strokes do weird things similar to internal keyboard. I am looking for some expert advice here because tech support from Dell leaves a lot to be desired.

Hello, this is my first post on these forums

My problem is that after using my dell mouse and keyboard for upwards of 2 years now, my keyboard has stopped working - despite changing batteries and ensuring they are properly working. My mouse is working fine wirelessly.

I have Googled my problem a dozen times, so far i have found that i need to access something called a 'BIOS' which i have no idea how i can find this, or what to do with it.

Please help!!

Hey All,

My new Dell keyboard has developed a small stress crack in the plastic between the numeric keypad and the wake up button. The computer is in a room with baseboard heating and we turn the heat down at night because of the expenditure of baseboard heat when we are not using it during the day. We also shut the computer down at night. However, the crack does not affect functionality in any way, and the feel is so much better than previous Dells that I have used.

The crack aside, this is the first Dell Keyboard I have had out of four previous models who's letters have not started rubbing off after 1-2 weeks of use! The letters are raised and large. What specific model would this be? If I had to replace the keyboard, what would I ask for to insure this type of lettering?

Anyways, now there are a few keys on the left side of the keyboard that are not working properly. For example,

If I press "W" it puts an "E" either before or after it, and vice versa, if I type an "E" it puts a "W" before or after it.

This happens will a few other keys within the same area. Is there anything I can do myself or should I call Dell? It's under warranty and I also got the 'accidental damage protection' plan.

Do you have PS/2 ports on your computer already? If so, all you may need is a very inexpensive PS/2 keyboard. I'd go to some mom/pop store and get the cheapest one available (or just borrow one). Be aware that some boards do not enable the PCI bus until after the system boots past the CMOS setup.

When you are able to get into the BIOS, enable legacy USB support.

it seems to be just the 4 keys directly above the space bar and the space bar its self..

A:Keyboard Problem Dell Laptop

A - Have youu tried an external keyboard onn it?

B - You weren't playing any games on it were you?

C - How clean is it, and has any liquids got into it?

This model of Dell is actually available in many makes, as it was an outsourced body (it shares the same keyboard with my Gateway Solo 1400, as well as the HP 1000/1100 series). It also means that it's not the newest beastie on the block, and that after time, keyboards do go bad.

But not to worry - this model isn't too hard to fix or replace the keyboard if needed, but first give it a good cleaning.

A good replacement keyboard can be aquired from parts dealers for about $19 to $29, and in the meantime, if you wish, an external USB keyboard can be used (cheap ones can be found for $10 in some places).

Hello there, this is my first post on these forums and I hope someone can help.

I was on an online forum last night on my ps3 and was tired of typing in posts using my ps3 controller. It dawned on me that I could pair my bluetooth PC keyboard to the PS3, and I managed to do so with no problems.

However, once I went back to trying to use the keyboard with the PC, it is not being detected. I have tried to reconnect using the "Add device" function in the control panel, but the keyboard isn't being detected at all. I even tried the old "Switch off and back on again" but to no avail.

I hope someone can help, it's probably something really simple but it has me completely stumped. Thanks in advance

My laptops keyboard is a special one with up to five characters on a key. I can access the keys in normal mode with no problem but I can't access the extra characters. I have tried different key combo such as ctrl shift and many more
to no avail. Does the keyboard language choice have anything to do with it?

Appreciate the help

Have you tried the Fn key?

I recently received my 9630 and it is just gorgeous.
However, today I was doing some typing on a Microsoft document when I notice something strange.
In my old laptops, when I need to dim down the brightness I would press the FN (function) key + F11 to lessen the brightness. But this time round I don't need to. All I need to do is just press F11. Then, when I am using Chrome or Internet Explorer... the F5 key is the refresh key. But it won't work unless I press FN + F5.
Even when it comes to renaming documents or files. The shortcut is F2, but I need to press FN + F2.
Then here's what gets more strange.
If I were to type my email, for example, [email protected], that @ symbol isn't SHIFT+2. But it is SHIFT+" key.  And Shift+2 produces " instead of @.
Is this some sort of hardware issue?

just wondering if anyone knows how to fix a misbehaving Dell Latitude CPx keyboard exhibiting the following symptoms:

- keys often register two hits when i only press them once
- some particular keys sometimes don't register any hit
- the shift, ctrl, and alt keys often need to be pressed two or three times to make them work.

My key repeat delay in WinXP is set pretty long so i don't think that's the problem. i've looked in the BIOS but it's very limiting in what it lets you fiddle with and there's no keyboard options in it. I bought the laptop secondhand on ebay - should i return it or is there some easy fix?? i'm not even sure if it's a hardware or software problem - it's very weird. could this perhaps be the result of someone spilling coffee on it or somesuch?

any thoughts?....

DELL XPS 15 9530
Some of my keys like "8" "i" "k" "<" are not working suddenly but if I am connected to a bluetooth keyboard everything works fine.
I have tried restarting and re-plugging the power cable and its still the same too.
Is any other solution I can try or I have to replace the keyboard ?

A:Dell Keyboard button Configuration. (Need Help)

The internet is a wonderful thing - if you have lost the instructions for the keyboard there will almost certainly be some info on the Dell website.

Usually the function of these buttons can be changed.

Do the button functions come up in control panel, keyboard ?.

When I try to type on the keyboard nothing happens. The mouse works fine. I took an old keyboard from my desktop and plugged it in to the back of the laptop it works fine. But that is a pain. Help please

A:Laptop keyboard problem---Dell

Might be a problem with the keyboard itself. Check your drivers for any problems. Also the event viewer (Start>Control Panel>Administrative tools>event viewer).

I need to replace my inspiron 7000 keyboard, I need help. Does anyone have directions on how to do this, I have the keyboard.

A:dell inspiron 7000 keyboard

Keyboard removal procedure.

1. Turn the computer over and remove the four screws from the bottom of the computer.

2. Turn the computer back over and open the display.

3. Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver along the right top of the keyboard, just above the row of function keys. Working from right to left, free the keyboard by prying it toward the front of the unit. When free, lift the top of the keyboard slightly to clear the palmrest assembly.

4. Slide the keyboard towards the display assembly to release the front edge of the keyboard from the palmrest assembly.

5. Rotate the bottom of the keyboard up toward the display assembly to expose the keyboard cable.

6. Disconnect the keyboard cable from the ZIF connector on the system board. Gently pry up the latches on each side of the connector.

That should do it. Becarefull not to bump the keys tops on the replacement keyboard as they usually are a pain to get back on.

I have to change the keyboard on my L 400 Dell Laptop. I am having trouble opening the case. What steps do I need to complete to change the keyboard?

Any help will be great!!

A:L400 Dell Laptop Keyboard

With a Google search using "Dell L400 Manuals" (no quotes), I was able to find:

The site has a free viewing OR download of the L400 Service and User Manuals. What more could you ask for??? Isn't Google wonderful!!!

It is a 4 year old desktop with XP.

I have brought it home to fix for someone, and just discovered none of my USB devices work with it.

It has no PS2 sockets for the usual keyboards and mice

Just wondered if there was a workaround ?

Check your bios settings to see if usb support is enabled. What is the reason you are working on this?

Hello again,
I've got a customer with what sounds like a memory issue. I want to run Memtest86+ on it, but there is an issue. On bootup, I get "keyboard failure" and I can't enter the BIOS to change the boot device priority so that I can load Memtest86+ from a flash drive or cd. The keyboard works fine once I'm into Windows, but I can't use it before Windows loads.
Things tried:
Reset CMOS.
Unplugged all other usb devices, including card reader internally.
Checked device manager, looks clean.

Thanks for any help.

Is it a GUI BIOS? Can you unplug the keyboard and use a mouse? Is the keyboard USB or PS/2?

Hello all nbsp This is my first official post here nbsp I've have the Dell Inspiron M laptop nbsp It worked great till one day the keyboard stopped responding nbsp Problem Dell Keyboard Inspiron All keys don't respond except for some peculiar situations nbsp When the computer boots up the keyboard doesn't respond at all nbsp Therefore I can't even get into my BIOS even if I wanted Dell Inspiron Keyboard Problem too nbsp Once the computer finishes Dell Inspiron Keyboard Problem booting up I can use Dell Inspiron Keyboard Problem the external USB mouse and even the touchpad with no problem nbsp The keyboard doesn't work at all no capslock no numlock no nothing nbsp When I start IExplorer and try to type anything nothing happens but if I hit certain keys in succession the browser closes and then if I try and restart IExplorer from the shortcut on my desktop or the shortcut in the tool tray it brings me to the dialogue box where the exe file is located nbsp At this point the touchpad doesn't work partially nbsp What I mean is the mouse moves if I touch the touchpad but when i tap the touchpad to click on icons it doesn't respond nbsp So I have to manually click the left button on the touchpad nbsp Everything resets when I restart the computer which I have to do almost everytime to figure out what might be causing the problem nbsp When restarting the system the computer beeps atleast - times in a distinct pattern quickly before showing the Dell logo on screen nbsp I've contacted Dell support several times and tried troubleshooting the problem with them and the best advice I got was to check all the connections of the keyboard internally and try to isolate the problem nbsp I not only rechecked the connection of the internal keyboard but I thought it might be some malicious virus so I re-installed windows xp and even flashed the BIOS but that didn't help nbsp I finally decided to replace the keyboard figuring that must be the final problem but when I swapped in the new keyboard same problem nbsp nbsp Although the keyboard appears to completely dead and inactive I've realized that when I start to press multiple keys to get any response some short cuts do activate although I don't which keys I hit exactly nbsp There nbsp are some responses but only when I press multiple keys in succession Anyhow I don't know what to do at this point nbsp Dell acts as if though this problem is a first to them and they insist it has to be the keyboard but I switched it and now I've spent upwards of - hours trying to troubleshoot this and I'm about to lose it nbsp Any advice or help would be much appreciated nbsp Thank you ahead of time nbsp Ks Message Edited by KidSeoul on - - PM

A:Dell Inspiron Keyboard Problem

Unless you are very unlucky and got a bad replacement KBD, it sounds like the KBD controller on the MBD. Are there any signs of a spill ? If not it could have been taken out by static, or you may just be unlucky with it. The MBD costs a lot more than a KBD.........
