I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

One of the stick of ram maybe bad. Try them each one at a time.

Hello,

I currently have an Acer Travelmate 529ATX Notebook, which uses an ATI Rage Mobility video chip, with 8MB of RAM.

Now, I know this isn't especially powerful when compared to newer chips - so here's my question:
Is there any way of enhancing the memory or performance of this chip to allow me to play certain games? Nothing fast, mind you - as a case in point, I wanted to play the game "Syberia", which gives as a requirement - "3D video card, minimum 16MB of RAM".

Am I stuck? The computer itself has 256MB of SDRAM.

Thanks very much for your help...

6 months ago,i upgraded memory from the factory installed 64 to 256. It works, etc.

Is there any additional tweaking/ajustments i can do? i read something with virtual memory setting could be done for one thing.

A:After upgrading memory,its works,Virtual memory Tweaking Now?

Unless you have Win95 you likely donít want to go messing with your virtual memory. And even in that case it is the vcache you would be more interested in tweaking. Win98 and higher handles memory well.

If you watch your system monitor and are sure you arenít using your virtual memory you might do the ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1 INI tweak. Unless you are doing graphics, video editing or something RAM intensive you likely arenít using the virtual memory and the tweak wonít slow your computer. It doesnít speed it up, it just stops needless writes to the hard drive during idle time. Information if you want to do that: http://www.aumha.org/a/memmgmt.htm

Donít let anyone talk you into Cacheman or any of those Mem/RAM/Turbo/Boost type programs. They were written for Win95 and counterproductive in anything since.

I have an nx9420 HP notebook and i was thinking that the standard Ati mobility radeon x1600 ain`t good enough for me, so i`m planning to upgrade. Does anybody know if i can do that? or is it specifically made for this damn video card(it`s a medium range one,and you won`t get too much out of it,even if it is a 256 mb video card) ...personally i would go for at least a geforce 7600, or higher...ati isn`t my favourite....
Suggestions ?

Laptop graphic chips are soldered directly to the motherboard. What you got from HP is what you are stuck with. You can only change the CPU and memory.

How do you check to see if your notebook can have a GPU installed in it.

A:Notebook GPU Upgrading???

Adding anything internally into a laptop is not only risky, but usually not possible unless done by the factory. Depending on what it is, it is most likely not upgradeable. The only things that are generally easily accessible on a laptop are the ram, the drives, and the expansion slots.

I've had my notebook for about two and a half years now and its starting to run slow and lag often. I noticed that the cpu usage when just browsing the internet is around 50%, when watching a movie around 70%, and when playing a video game or using a big program around 90%. The notebook has a relatively slow cpu speed (1.2GHz). Is it possible to put a new cpu in my notebook without replacing the motherboard as well? It also has 4gb of RAM which I am going to upgrade to 8gb soon. I don't really have money to buy a brand new notebook so I was just looking for ways to upgrade my current pc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not answering your specific question. I personally would wait until I could afford a full notebook upgrade.
But these tips may help your performance:
Optimize Windows 7

At the risk of being strung up, one of Windows 8 virtues apparently is to help low power PCs performance.

you can upgrade the processor, make sure you have the right socket, but the biggest problem is you can't upgrade your video card. Those video cards are for desktops. And theres nothing you can do about it. What games are you trying to play?

The Maintenance and Service Guide for the DV5-2074dx does indeed include the location and method to access to memory modules in the laptop, check out page 50 of the manual.

Link to the HP site for manuals for the DV5-2074dx: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4278971&

Also, simply removing a few screws would not damage the motherboard, but what can damage the board is static electricity once the panel is removed exposing the board and slots so be sure to discharge any static electricity before handling the parts.

Hi, I have a laptop which is a more than a year old, and some games are getting choppy even though my laptop's specs don't seem too shabby. When I ran Company of Heros recently, my notebook nearly died; taking about 10 minutes to even load the tutorial seemed awful.

The question is, should I upgrade the parts (RAM, graphics card) of my notebook? Is it even possible to upgrade parts of a notebook like you do to a computer?

Or, should I attempt to overclock my laptop? Would it be too dangerous or risky...

These are the specs of my laptop.

Acer Aspire 5670
Intel Core Duo Processor T2300 1.66GHz 667MHz FSB 2 MB L2 Cache

ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 512 Hypermemory (but I think I saw 128 external VRAM somewhere)

100GB 5400rpm SATA HDD

1GB DDR2 RAM (dual channel)

Thanks for viewing and your posts are appreciated.

A:Some questions about upgrading/overclocking a notebook

1. laptops generally are NOT recommended for games unless it is as gaming laptop.

2. overclocking a laptop is very foolish. Most laptops run hot as-is. Without adequate cooling, you will fry your components. It is extremely difficult if not impossible to add additional cooling capabilities to a laptop.

3. overclocking is discussed in the overclocking forum.

I'm trying to install Windows 2000 Professional on my Compaq Presario 1275 notebook, but Setup hangs at the text screen "Setup is starting Windows 2000."

I contacted HP and they basically said "Your computer was made for Windows 98" and "screw you." I've tried disabling USB and API support and specifying a different HAL, as suggested by Microsoft, but nothing's worked yet.

Also, there's no usable floppy drive, so that's something fun to work around.

I got an HP 250 G5 notebook with Windows 7 Professional 64 installed and activated by the manufacturer (as it is possible through downgrade rights from Windows 10 Pro 64). No Producy Key is available, though, being placed only in firmware, I presume, for the Windows 10 derivation. So, the question is if it is in theory possible to re-install Windows 10 Pro 64, with only the original rights and virtual product key, and in which of these ways: Clean install of the OS, with loss of pre-installed programs;Upgrade of the OS;Dual boot system, in case. Thanks in advance!

A:Re-upgrading a Windows 7 Professional 64 Notebook downgraded...

Izram Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Let me try to answer your questions ... First off, the Free Upgrade of Win10 is long over, so now, you will have to PURCHASE a license to install Win10, no matter how you do it. Second, you CAN do the Win10 Upgrade from Win7, and since HP does supply Win10 drivers for your PC, if you have any driver problems after the Upgrade, you can download the HP drivers from here:  http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=10180323&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4192 Third, techically, dual-boot, that is using the same license for both Win7 and Win10 on the same PC, is not legal -- as the Win10 Upgrade consumes the Win7 license.Good Luck

if thats true then I should at least be able to handle a pentium at 478 pins with 533 FSB, or a core solo at that same rate.

I have a HP Mini model NR notebook well out of warranty The problem is that suddenly it started to overheat a lot What I do not understand is where the problem is located I cannot work out the logic in my head to narrow down the problem Is it the heat sink Is it the CPU Help The overheating problem is evidenced by the fan Heatsink on HELP of Symptoms Failure notebook. running high all the time the notebook is on After minutes Symptoms of Heatsink Failure on notebook. HELP both palm rests are warm and the underside is very hot along the whole length of the heatsink pipe to the side where the fan pushes out the hot air I think the coper pipe runs from the GPU to the CPU and then to the fan If I open the memory access port and though the memory DIMM it is too hot for touch it would probably cook an egg The air coming out of the fan is Symptoms of Heatsink Failure on notebook. HELP also Symptoms of Heatsink Failure on notebook. HELP toasty I opened the notebook and cleaned air dusted the entire inside there was no dust or air flow blockage there was no obvious sign of physical damage or burns and the fan spins without any difficulty I have the latest BIOS update and software updates have been using the same notebook and same softwares for year and it never had this kind of heat problems the only change is that it is just older this heat problem is alway on even when the notebook is not running any programs and it is idle the task manager shows the CPU usage level at - when idle so it is not a virus or program using the CPU to either SO this is my question where is the problem what is causing the overheating the only thing I can imagine is that the liquid inside the heat pipe if there is supposed to be any has dried out But If the heatsink is broken why is the heat still being transfered all the way from the GPU to CPU to the fan and out the notebook as very hot air if it is broken there should be a heat transfer problem and cold air should come out or half the pipe is hot and the other side cold right or do i have an incorrect understanding of how heatsink works Or maybe what I should ask is what is causing the CPU and the GPU to be constantly so hot even with no programs running that the heatsink and fan is constantly overworking ANyone know of the HP Mini s having this kind of heat problems everywhere I look they talk about air flow blockage or heatsink failure etc but no one discusses what is causing the heat to generate in the first place I am stomped Any help is greatly appreciated Thank you Craig S L email protected nbsp

Hello everyone,

Well, I am about ready to jump on the Windows 7 Express. However, I have a few questions.

First...here is what my system is running:
Model: Sony Vaio VGN-SR190E
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Memory: 4 gigs ram, I think 160 gig hard drive

Anyway, I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and it gave me a list of programs that I would need to uninstall first--iTunes, Windows Mobile Device Center, and some Sony bloatware that I'm not going to reinstall once I'm running Windows 7. However...it also told me to uninstall my wireless internet software (Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software). If this is indeed what I think it is, is uninstalling this *really* necessary? I would like to be able to get updates from the internet as I install Windows 7, so if I could leave this on so my computer could access the internet...that would be great.

Thank you for any help,
Michael

About a year ago I attempted to upgrade windows 98 to Windows xp. Somewhere along the line, it thought i entered a password to start up. (It's possible I blacked out and did this??) So, I had the xp on but when I later tried to log on, i couldn't because..no password. I could not discover one after using all my password-creating formulas. I was told (by more than one person at microsoft support) i had no alternative but to wipe out my hard drive and return to windows 98. So i did and have been too aggravated to get another Win xp upgrade. But it's time for a change and i would like to be able to use the one i have. Anybody, help?

Hi!

I've been trying to upgrade RC to RTM using an Ultimate 32-bit upgrade version.

Installation stops at "Expanding windows files" stage, at 21% when it informs that Windows needs to restart, and gives an error message - required driver could not be installed (see attached).

The error log (also attached) reads "Failed to find driver file path. Error=00000002x[gle=0x80092004]"
several times, and finally quits.

I'm installing from a folder on the hardrive, after copying the DVD to it and changing the required cversion.ini. When I tried to burn it back to a DVD and install from it, it keeps using the same partition for temp files, btw.

Any idea how to solve this? Thanks in advance... I'm getting really frustrated here...

My computer is a HP 15 Notebook PC, and I use Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit). I recently received notice of a important update regarding an HP Notebook System BIOS Update (AMD Processors). I tried doing the update, but it seems to behave strangely. Creating a restore point, checking available space, connecting to HP servers, and the downloading itself are all marked with a green check, but when it goes to installing, after a few seconds of it, a gray X box shows up beside installing, and all I can do is click 'next', and it leaves. What am I supposed to do? Is this update supremely necessary to keep using my computer as is? Model number: f100dx Product: J2X70UA//ABA

Hi @Nicmurg1? ,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP 15-f100dx Notebook and issues with the BIOS update.I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that might need updating. This is the only way I would do updates as they are made for your HP Notebook. I hope this helps. Thanks.

I just upgraded on my XPS 8300  motherboard from a Dell 0y2mgr to an Asrock Z77 EXTREME4-M. I have listed below specs in there.  I've taken it apart and put it back together many times now because I get a blue screen saying hardware failure. The longest I got it to turn on for was about 10 minutes, after I installed windows. I'm not quite sure what's going on.

Asrock Z77 EXTREME4-M (Motherboard)
Intel i5-3570k CPU
Thermaltake 850W modular power supply
4 sticks, 4gb sticks of RAM. (Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866 MHz)
Nvidia GTX 660 Ti graphics card

I have been slowly upgrading the internal components over the years so at this point the only original part is the case.

Any suggestion on what’s going on.

Hi, if the PC came originally with Windows 8 preinstalled the product key is embedded in the BIOS so it would be detected automatically. Here is a great tutorial how to install Windows 8 Clean Install - Windows 8.

Greetings to All:

I have a 5-year old notebook (Dell). It is still behaving well, but because it only has 64MB of RAM, there are some new applications that it will not run. Also, it takes forever to download some large files.

My questions are:

1) Is it even possible to add memory to a notebook PC?

2) If it is possible, would I see significant improvement, re running larger applications and/or faster downloads?

3) (Assuming that the answers to 1 & 2 are "yes"), How much memory should I add? 256? 512?

Thanking you very much in advance.

I have just bought 4GB memory to add to my Hewlett Packard HP15 TS Notebook but I can't find a video showing exactly how to do it. The ones I've seen so far look as if you have practically take the laptop to bits to install, but they are not my model. Where can I find a video which will clearly show it? Is it just the back removal that's needed for my model. Thank you.

The bad news is the memory modules are next to the CPU so you are going to have to take the keyboard off to renew memory.

A:new notebook does not have enough memory

Hi, The following link shows specs of your computer:     http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04941651 Probably you are talking about storage (ie HDD), not memory (ie RAM). It is a very basic computer, buy then forget, not upgradable in many ways. My suggestion: use the SD card to download files to it, then install from (not to) there. Regards.

Hello to all,

I have HP4530s laptop with core i-5 CPU-2410M with 4 GB RAM and Radeon Graphics.

In basic System information I see this:
Installed RAM 4GB (2.69 Usable). Does this mean that some of the RAM memory is shared for VGA or not?

How to check whether RAM memory is used for VGA and how much memory is available for VGA??

Thank you

A:Checking VGA memory on notebook

I'm assuming you have a HP ProBook 4530s laptop that's running Windows 7.

Right-click an empty space on the screen, then click "Personalize", then click "Display" - or - go to Control Panel - Display.

Click "Adjust resolution" or "Change display settings, then click "Advanced settings".

Select the "Adapter" tab.

The amount of dedicated and shared RAM for the display device will be listed.

------------------------------------------------------

That model laptop supports up to 8 GB of DDR3 PC3-10600 RAM.

If it's running the 64-bit version of Windows 7, you might consider adding more RAM.

8 GB (4 GB X 2)

Hey everyone! My paw says you guys sure know your stuff !!! I've got a Gateway MX8711 laptop with an FSB of 533mhz. I would like to upgrade the memory. Already has 1GB in two slots (2X512). I want to purchase a 1GB for one slot and holdover a 512mb already installed. Totalling 1.5GB.
The best I can make out, is that the memory already installed is DDR2 at 533MHz PC2-4200, 200p SODIMM. A local big box store has 1GB DDR II PC2-5300 (appears to be 667mhz) for $45.

I've got 2 question areas . First:

1. Can/Should I use the PC2-5300 in the laptop?
2. If so, can I/should I mix it with the PC2-4200?

I don't want to screw the computer up.

Second:
Can I install the modules myself of go pro?
Any help is really appreciated!!

Hello,
I'm now to the forum, and I find it quite cool also the site.
So to the question,
I have one old notebook : Acer Aspire 3613 and it has two memory sticks(2x256 DDR2 @ 667MHz).
I want to add more, and to replace the old ones. But i don't know what is the limit or is there any?I was thinking of 2x1 GB @ 667 MHz.
Is it possible , can this notebook have this amount of memory.

I would be very grateful for every answer.

My net book Acer Aspire One 722-BZ454 came with only 2 gb of ram. Since I have been flooded with win 7 upgrades and etc..2 gigs seem to slow down my system. I heard owners of the same net book had removed the 2 gigs and replaced it with 4gigs and found that to be very satisfactory. I bought this net book cause of traveling convience and its low price, but i do not want to add more cost to it, because of it.. I realize it would cost me something, so can anyone here recommend where i can get a good price on a 4 gig ram? Also, its a shame about the removable 2 gig i would have to remove..i go back to the days when a pc ran on only 10MB of ram and that was in Oct 1992...and they were very, very expensive then and even rare to get at times.

Computer memory upgrades for Acer Aspire One 722 Netbook from Crucial.com

Above link is to the Crucial RAM configurator for your netbook at Crucial.com. Take a look at its recommendation for your netbook.

You can also go to Crucial with your netbook and let it sniff your configuration. It will then make a recommendation that should match the link I provided.

$23 for 4 GB direct from Crucial, or you can shop for that exact Crucial product number locally.

Hi there Well some of you may have seen the recent thread of mine on upgrading my laptop s memory from MB but I ve given it a bit more thought and I ve decided to give my desktop a kick up the backside with some more RAM but in turn I m hoping this will provide me with Upgrading Help - Please! Memory some spares which I could transfer over to my laptop At the moment my computer is running x GB DDR Upgrading Memory - Help Please! PC and x MB DDR PC I will carry on with the upgrade of another x GB DDR PC being added to my desktop since it needs it with all the software I run for University but I read on the Crucial website that regardless of the speed all memory will be backwards-compatible which gave me a thought and a hope that I might be able to kill two birds with one stone as it were and upgrade both my laptop AND desktop and only having the cost of upgrading the desktop So what I m talking about is when I rip out the PC stick will I be able to just simply pop this into a spare slot in my laptop or is this type of memory only to be used for desktops or can I safely carry on and add it to one of the PC MB sticks thus giving me only a MB upgrade but an upgrade all the same or is this not possible or worth it I mainly run Photoshop on my laptop and leave all the indepth stuff like video rendering and some of the bigger and newer games to my desktop and to be honest it s less of a waste if I can use a MB stick left over from my desktop in place of one MB stick rather than just throwing it away What s your suggestions please nbsp

I'm not sure if this is the correct area to post this question - however I'm hoping somebody can help me out.

Here's the scenerio - Say you have a server that currently has 6GB of memory and you want to upgrade to 16GB.

What information do you need in order to determine how much you need to purchase? How do you calculate this?

If additional information is needed, let me know.

Thank you so much!

A:Upgrading Memory

You'll need to look that information up in your motherboard book. It wil tell you the maximum amount of memory it can handle, what type etc. Again look for this information in your motherboard documentation spefically the motherboard manual or visit your motherboard manufacturer website for the info and specs.

I thought i had a really good pc but apparently not! I have gotten a new graphics card and still, new games like tribes 2 don't run well so i decided to upgrade my memory even though I was told that it won't improve my game playing performance. but someone at the tribes 2 forum said i should get 133mb or mhz, whatever it is, sticks even thought my pc specs says it only supports the 100 dimms kind. so this guy said that 133 is backwards compatible with 100. what does that mean and will it improve my game playing experience?

This may seem like a stupid question, but is it possible to put PC100 SDRAM memory in a system that uses PC2100 DDR SDRAM or PC3200 DDR SDRAM memory? I have a system with only 128MB or RAM that is choking (intergrated graphics, go figure), and I wanted to upgrade it. NOTE: IT ISN'T POSSIBLE TO UPGRADE THE VIDEO CARD: IT HAS NO AGP SLOT. ONLY STANDARD PCI.

A:Memory upgrading

No. the pc100 sdram module wouldn`t fit into the ddr dimm slots.

Get at least a 512MB stick of ddr333 or ddr400(pc2700/pc3200) ram.

Take out your 128Mb stick of ram and replace it with the larger ram module.

Make sure that whatever ram you get it is compatible with your mobo.

On the graphics card issue. It can be upgraded, by buying a pci graphics card.

Do a Google search for pci graphics cards.

Hello guys.

I am about to upgrade my 512mb ddr333 and have bought 1gb ddr400 memory. I know that if i install both then they will end up running at the slowest speed of 300mhz(166mhz actual).
My question is should i just accept this drop in speed for an extra gain of 0.5gb memory or will it run faster if i take out the old 512mb ddr333 and only install the 1gb ddr400 memory stick and set the dram frequency to 200mhz (400mhz effective)?

The MB can have up to 2 gigs of memory at 400 Mhz, and my question is, how do you know if your mobo is capable of utilizing duel channel memory? These are the sticks I'm interested in:

Now, when I went to Kingston's website, this is the stick it recommended based on my motherboard:

So, my mobo cant use dual channel?

A:Upgrading Memory(RAM)

You should be able to run the 512 with the 2x256 with no problems. I would check the latency of the RAM to verify they all match. Latency is usually denoted in this format 2.5-3-3-5. I would stick with the same manufacturer if possible. Only real way to tell if it is going to work is to try it and see and browse as many forums as you can to see if anyone else has had issues with those brands and sizes...

Hello,

I have got an old computer but would like to upgrade my memory.
At the moment I have 4GB DDR2 PC2-5300 (333 MHz).

Would I be able to upgrade those to 800MHz PC2-6400? Or maybe combine them?

Thanks for the help.

A:Upgrading memory

It depends on a lot of factors, but most likely, you wouldn't see any difference in performance if you did and were able to get them to run at 800 MHz. If you combined them, the memory will run at the slowest speed of the chips anyway.

Now, if you have a reason to need 8 GB over 4 GB, you'll see a difference with the increased memory, but only if the 4 GB is holding you back at this point.

Is it true that you can only upgrade memory with double the amount you already have? This is new to me, but someone told me if I was gonna upgrade my 256Meg DDR ram i have to put another 256Meg in and cannot put in 512meg like I want to give, er, 786Meg? Does this make sense? Is it true? I only have two memory slots and wanted to upgrade to as much as i can. (In stages of course).

Thanks, Paul.

A:Upgrading memory

That is not true. It is desirable to have the same brand of memory if possible.
Also, make sure that your system is capable of handling that amount of memory. Check your motherboard manual or website for the info, if you aren't sure.

I am not a tech ninja, so I thought I would ask those who are...

I'm upgrading the memory on my work laptop from 512mb to 2gb. I removed the 512 and installed the 2gb (two 1gb sticks), and when I turned on the laptop, it seemed to go back to exactly how it was when I first received it. My desktop was gone, etc. So, I removed one 1gb stick and put the 512mb stick back in the expansion slot on the bottom and everything is working as before. Therefore, my question is: how can I put in the other 1gb and keep everything working as it is now? Is there a way to transfer my data from the 512mb memory to the 1gb that's already installed?? Any help is appreciated!

Thought I'd ask you guys for help, as I do not know where to look for Samsung RAM, or any other 100% compatible RAM for my laptop. Well, actually I know where to look but how do I figure out which suits my laptop the best? I prefer to have the same brand of RAM this laptop came with, which is Samsung (my laptop is an Acer Aspire 8735G).

Also is it better to have 2 strips of 4 GB or would it be a better idea for me to buy 1 strip of 8 GB? I don't have any idea what type of motherboard this laptop's got, I can't seem to find it anywhere... I've used CPU-Z, checked my laptop's manual and service guide but nothing to find there.

Thans in advance
