Can't pin Office 2010 apps to taskbar?

Q: Can't pin Office 2010 apps to taskbar?

Hey,

For some reason, I can't get any of the Office 2010 programs to pin to the taskbar on Windows 7 Home Premium. When the program is running, the jumplist has no button to pin the program. If I go into the Start Menu and hit Pin to Taskbar from there, it gives me a working shortcut on the taskbar, but the program creates a new taskbar button when it launches, completely ignoring the one that's already there.

Even stranger, I don't have this problem on my other computer running Win 7 Pro.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you tried rt.click on the .exe for each program and pin, or drag and drop the exe onto the taskbar. See if that works.

So I've read a number of articles regarding the issue of having your recent documents, spreadsheets, whatever file type not showing in the Jump List on pinned Office shortcuts on the taskbar. The expected behavior is shown in the image for the Adobe Shortcut below and the behavior that I am receiving is shown in the image for the Word Shortcut.

I believe its related to how the program is registered with Windows. As all Office programs, except Outlook, are not present in the Default Programs location as shown in the attached image.

They do show correctly in the Associate File Type dialog and open their respective file types correctly. How can I modify the registry to get Windows to properly aknowledge their installation without uninstalling, clearing registry and reinstalling.

Any ideas?

Not sure if it is the solution wanted by you, but you can try it manually, following the tutorial Jump Lists - Pin or Unpin Items to add items in Jump lists, and them, if needed, you can back it up, too. Jump Lists - Backup and Restore in Windows 7 .

It seems that there may be a problem in Office 2010. I just installed it to the standard MS default/recommended settings .........all looked good...used Word great..until I use Excel and each time I try to use excel it sets off an 'Office Configuration' screen which I can not stop..it take a few minutes and then loads OK. I tried to launch it from the installed prgrams icon but there is no files on 'start in' etc..I tied to create a shortcut to the desktop from the excel.exe file and get the same reconfigure issue..it seem that somehow I don't have either permissions or I have a corrupt install..all Office suite works eventually Anyone know how to fix it..please?

A:Office 2010 Pro Plus Win7 x 64 Excel reconfigures Office 2010

Have you ever had a previous version of Office on this copy of win7?
or

Do you have any component of a previous office suite installed still

I have seen this in the past with Viso that was due to remnents of an earlier trial remaining on disk and in the registry.

I also found that if I cancelled the configuration screen the Viso would load without problems without the need to wait for completion.

There are some rather involved solution stems on Microsoft website - cannot find them at the present but will try to look for them.

The problem was that I could never get the removal steps to actually cure the issue and I put up with the error until my next re-install of Win7, which was not to long in the case of that system

I don't know if maybe I'm the only one who runs into this problem or if it happens to a lot of people, but it seems to come up a lot for me.

I have had this issue on many computers but right now I am setting up an old Dell Latitude E5510 for an employee and I have reformatted, installed all drivers, and programs needed. I installed Office 2007, because this employee won't really be using the computer much.

I start up Windows Updates today and it has me downloading 3 updates for Windows 2010. This computer had Office 2010 on it before it was reformatted. Is it still sensing Office 2010 buried somewhere in the files and that's why it's asking me to install updates for it? Does Office 2007 use updates that are also made for 2010(and are only labled 2010)? Anyone have any ideas? I don't believe it's hurting anything, but I am curious!

Thanks

We are wanting to up-grade our current Office suite Office 2003 to either Office 2010 or Office 2013.  Our PC's are running Windows 7

I would just like to know what peoples opinions and advice is on this?

A:Up-grade from Office 2003 to Office 2010 or Office 2013

I can't speak to Office 2013, but I've done numerous upgrades to Office through 2010.  When you install the new version, you have the option to keep the old version or just replace it.  Starting with Office 2007 the familiar menu bar has been replaced with the ribbons which take a lot of getting used to for folks used to older versions.  There's a little program called UbitMenu that will add most of the menu bar functions back in the 2007 and 2010 versions that a lot of folks find helpful.  If you do opt to have two different versions installed at the same time, what happens is that when you switch from one to the other, it goes through a juggling act that takes a minute or so.  It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it, it could be a convenience.

Good luck.

I had a problem with Outlook emails hanging up in the outbox and then sending as many as 14 copies of the same message. I was unable to fix this Using the "Repair" function of the upgrade installation disk (created from the downloaded file). I removed Office completely and tried to reload; however, my disk got corrupted and Outlook is no longer available. Is there a way to recover Outlook without having to purchase it separately? I am using Office Professional Plus 2010 Home Use Program. The email that came with the original download from Digital River states to go to the "Account Management Console" to reload; however, this is on a hard copy and the original email with the link is no longer available. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: Outlook 2010 missing from Office Professional Plus 2010

If you downloaded this from Digital River, then you may be able to download it again, contact them and ask.

If you can download the install file again and it works, burn yourself a CD of the downloaded install file.

Also write the keycode on the CD.

My beta expired so I uninstalled the beta. I restarted and tried to install the trial but I get this error.

Quote:
Error 25004. The product key you entered cannot be used on this machine. This is most likely due to previous Office 2010 trials being installed. (System error: -1073418160)

I read then that I was to delete the following reg entries

Problem is the bottom entry is not deleteable. If I try to delete it or a subfolder or the key I get

Can this be done?

A week ago, I bought a new CD of MS Office Home and Student 2010. Before I did that, I asked my wife, who has occasionally used Access 2003, "do you still need a database program?". I SWEAR she said "no I don't use it any more". The FIRST time she sat down to use MS Office 2010 she asked me "where's the database program?" aarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh....

So is it possible for me to buy a way to upgrade the version I have now, or must I buy a completely new stand alone CD for just Access 2010?

A:Adding MS Access 2010 to my MS Office Home and Student 2010

I have NOT seen any upgrade to a higher package.

I think the only way is to buy the stand alone package.

Now that you know, you will be buying the Pro version when you upgrade to 2013!

Hi all
Having totally WIPED office 2010 from my system and re-installed again the problem I had with the "Purge" folder not appearing now is SOLVED.

However you still don't get a line through the deleted items -- but they are in Trash folder now.

This is BETTER but still NOT WHAT IS NEEDED -- as another computer with Outlook 2007 doesn't get the "Non purged" items in the inbox which it should do.

IMAP should effectively leave items in the Inbox until purged -- otherwise I might as well go back to POP3 - more fiddly to manage whern you leave stuff on the server but it works.

What I'm resigned to doing now is to use the REST of the office 2010 suite (EXCEL etc) which is really good but stick with Outlook 2007 for email.

Cheers

My MS Office files have generic icons, and when I open them, Windows asks me which program to use. Office 2010 isn't even on the list. A trial version of Office 2007 came with my laptop. I downloaded the Office 2010 beta, then uninstalled 2007. Since I uninstalled the old Office, all my Office files are no longer associated with Office, and there seems to be no way to remarry them. Office 2010 (beta) doesn't appear in the default programs control panel. The only way I can open those files is to open Word/Excel/etc, and File>Open. I feel like this should be simple. Any ideas?

You mean what's called Microsoft Update. If you go in to the settings in Windows Update, do you have this checked:

I have Office 2013 Pro Plus, but the click-to-run version which updates itself and is not part of Windows Update. But I don't think there's a click-to-run version for 2010 Pro Plus so that is probably not the issue here.

Good Evening Everyone,

I have a few questions concerning the Installation of 2010 Office. I know that I have to uninstall Office 2007. I have no clue on how to save or where to save my documents from Office 2007. The documents consist of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and a few various folders. Should I from the Start Menue click on Documents select all and copy. Where should I place this copy? Can It be left on my hard drive? After I install Office 2010 can I then copy the "Document File" and place in Documents. Will all the files end up in the proper place for their programs, Word files go to Word, Excel goes to Excel so on and so forth. Thank you so much for all your help and cooperation. It is greatly appreciated. I hope I described my situation correctly. I look forward to hearing from you.

A:2010 Office Professional Plus to Replace 2007 Office Small Business

But you don't have to uninstall Office 2007 to upgrade to 2010. That's the general rule as you can generally upgrade from lower SKUs to higher SKUs (Small Business to Pro Plus). As far as saving your documents, you can really save them wherever you like on your hard drive or on any CD or flash drive if you wish to do so. As far as file types, after 2010 is installed, they should all register properly for their programs so that Word documents open in Word, Excel Documents in Excel, etc.

Though if you have all of you documents already saved within "Documents" or "My Documents" or some other folder you've set aside and you want to uninstall 2007 before upgrading to 2010, the documents themselves will be retained when you uninstall, you just won't be able to really do much with them until you install 2010.

I did an upgrade installation from Office 2003 PRO to Office 2010 PRO. I had several issues with Access denied on C:\Config.msi. I usually select retry and all is well. I think I may have missed one of the retries before I did the system restart.
Now I get an error 2203 whenever I reboot, and the Office 2003 installer keeps popping up anytime I try to do anything.
I tried uninstalling Office 2003 and was told that I had a corrupted install. I tried re-installing it and it seems to just hang.
I also tried to uninstall and repair Office 2010.

I'm at a loss at this point.

Having upgraded my desktop PC to Office 2010, I need to import three seperate letter template files for use in Word. These were lost during the upgrade but are on my laptop, which still runs Office 2003, as .dot type files and I also have them copied to a memory stick. However, I am at a loss as to how and where to save them into the new programme on my desktop PC. If it makes a difference, I should add that I do not use Libraries and have disabled them.
Can anyone advise please?

A:Importing template files from Office 2003 to Office 2010

Problem solved - with a bit of advice from a friend! Unsurprisingly, it's very simple.

- Open the document in Word
- Click "Save As"
- Scroll to top of folder list and, under "Microsoft Word", click "Templates"
- Name the template and select "Word Template" in the "Save As Type" list
- Save it

I still don't know where they are saved to but I can now call them up and use them.

Hi fred93 The documents you created with Office programs aren't related to it. You can simply uninstall Microsoft Office 2003, and install Office 2010 and you'll be able to use them again. Simple as that.

Hey guys, my wife is taking a course that requires her to install Office 2010. The issue is that she wants to preserve her current setup which includes Office 2003 and 2007 existing side-by-side on her Windows 7 (64-bit Home Edition) notebook.
The 2003/2007 setup is not one that she really wants to mess with (i.e., she has no interest whatsoever in uninstalling the two Office suites that she currently has), so ideally she would like to have Office 2010 installed temporarily (for the duration of her course) on the machine without interfering with the current setup.
What is the most painless way of doing this that does not involve shelling out for a second computer?

A:Installing Office 2010 on a machine with Office 2003/2007

Hi, welcome to the forum,
I had a similar situation here but in the end I opted out.

I removed both Office 2003 and 2007 and installed 2010, I then used virtual XP and installed 2003 there, 2007 and 2010 are too similar and the dll's will 'bite' along the way.

Even my 2003 and 2007 gave me issues after some time.

Have you checekd what the Microsoft Support site says?

Any idea when Office 2013 will be available for download / upgrade?

Thanks!

A:Purchased Office 2010 w/ free upgrade to Office 2013

Hi there
it's in the Ms store already -- although IMO I'd stick to Office 2010 if I were you.
Anyway YMMV so here's the link (UK store) .

Microsoft Store United Kingdom Online Store - Office Suites

What you'd do to get the upgrade price I don't know but Office 2013 IS available for download. Try phoning / emailing -- actually a better option these days is to use a FAX believe it or not for this type of question. Emails tend to get lost as people have 100'000's to deal with, phone calls are diabolical --endless menu systems, loads of waiting and people on the other side of the planet who are incredibly difficult to understand.

The lowly fax machine when it chatters into life usually gets INSTANT attention these days . !!

Cheers

I told it to remove 2010 and install 2013

durning the install my nvidia drivers kept stopped responding. this problem stopped after office 2013 was installed and updated.

and later I found out my vmware installation was messed up and missing files. was working before.

what the heck happpend, I dont know..........office 2010 decided to take revenge? if it was going out . it was taking everyone out with it. lol

A:office 2010 to office 2013 weird thing happend

Are you running Windows in your VMWare installation or is your WMWare installation on your Windows machine?

It sounds like (drivers aside) there were some shared filed that may have been wiped that VMWare was using that belonged to Office 2010.

I am running a copy of Office 2007 Ultimate that I got through an academic program. I need to install a key for Office 2010 on a new system. The cost for the key only is about $20 less than a 3 license traditional disk version, so I am considering upgrading every system.

However, I don't want to lose MS Access or MS Publisher to upgrade.

If I install Office 2010 Home & Student over Office 2007 Ultimate, will the extra programs from Office 2007 still be available to me? I know they will not be upgraded, but having a few different versions floating around doesn't bother me.

Hi majorbaluga, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Removing Office completely can be difficult. Refer to the website below. This explains how to remove Office 2013. You may have to remove office 2010 as well & then reinstall office 2010.

Am not sure what to do with these updates:

Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553181) 32-Bit Edition
Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553310) 32-Bit Edition
Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2553455) 32-Bit Edition

Windows Updates says they are important.

I do not have Office 2010 installed. Office 2007 is installed.

My security software keeps telling me I am at risk because my operating system is not up to date.

Any thoughts on what I should do?

A:Receiving updates for Office 2010 but Office 2007 is installed.

If your computer is relatively new, it may have come with a trial install of Office 2010 - check the Start menu, and the Programs & Features listing.
You may also have installed Viewers for things like PowerPoint 2010, which still require updates.

I have Office 2010 Standard Open License Version installed on 7 XP Pro machines. We discovered, when trying to open a .tif file, that Document Imaging has been removed from Office 2010. I found and followed instructions in KB982760 from the MS web site. I got lots of parts of Office 2007, including Word, but still no Document Imaging. I tried going through Add/Remove Programs to add the feature; still no luck. Has anyone been successful getting Document Imaging from a previous version of Office to run under 2010?

Thanks,

I recently installed the Microsoft Office 2010 Beta, but this morning its intro screen stays stuck at "Starting Microsoft Office Click-to-Run." Googling it resulted in only two threads, neither of them having the answer.

I'm back to using Office 2007, by simply setting my Word and Excel documents to open by Office 2007 by default, but now my Word and Excel icons have become much less pretty, such as my Word icons becoming a very plain "DOCX" icon instead of the normal "blue W" icon. I checked, and the file types are still regular Word documents. Is there a way to get the pretty icons back?

A:Office 2010 Problems: "Starting Microsoft Office Click-to-Run" & Unattractive DOCX icons for Word documents.

Regarding changing the icon:
Go to either My Computer or Windows Explorer.
Click Tools, Folder Options, File Types tab.
Scroll down to the DOCX file type (file types are in alphabetical order), click on it one time to highlight it.
Click the Advanced button.
The "Edit File Type" screen appears.
There is a Change Icon button in the top right area.
Click the Change Icon button.
You should have other icon choices to pick from.
Side note: If you don't like any of those icons, you can always hit the Browse button,
and browse to where other icons are, (you can assign any icon to any file type that you want, it is a matter of personal preference).
Icons are found in .exe files (executables), some (not all) .dll (dynamic link library) files, and .ico files.

I have had a terrible time trying to trace down "not responding" in various programs. About 90% of the time however, it occurs in Outlook 2010 and sometimes in Word 2010. I took down the information from the event viewer after the last time it happened so badly that I had to restart the program because waiting didn't bring it back.
Win 7 Prof, SP1. i7, 930 with 24 gig of 1333 Kingston HyperX ram. Several drives: C SSD Plextor and Office is actually installed on a WD Caviar. Neither drive show errors. Only thing I see is that the Caviar is using Microsoft 2006 driver and I haven't been able to find a newer driver. Happens when SATA is set to AHCI and when it is set to IDE.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can offer.
BTW, I have run scannow and also have gone through my pst files and archived.

I purcased MS OFiice 2010 Professional through the MS Home Use Program to replace MS Office 2007.

I received the link and product key via e-mail; I've ordered the CD's but they won't arrive for another 2 weeks.

Several posts indicated that I should uninstall the 2007 version, then install the 2010 version. If I do that, I won't have access to the e-mail for the download.

Should i just install 2010 over 2007, or wait for the CD's?

Wait for the DVD, or download the ISO then write it to DVD for installation. After installation, activate it with the licence key you purchased.

A:PLEASE HELP RESOLVE OFFICE 2003 AND OFFICE 2010 CONFLICT

When you switch between an Office 2010 program and an older Office program, it goes through that configuring process.  I read somewhere that this is because each version of Office has entries in the registry with the same names but are set differently so it has to go through this little gooney bird dance.  If it's the ribbons (and lack of the menu bar) you don't like in Office 2010, there's a neat little program called Ubitmenu you can download and install that gives you an old style menu bar with most of the Office 2003 features on it.

I have been in the situation where I bought a new pc that had a trial version of MS Office 2010 already installed. I installed a full version of MS Office 2007 and uninstalled the MS 2010 trial version later with no problems.

This was a case where I had MS Office 2007 installed on my work computer and my company had a site license that allowed you to also install a copy at home. That's why I choose the 2007 version over the 2010 version.

My PC completely lost it after I upgraded MS Office from 2010 to 365. Memory is going through the roof. I think there's some leftovers from the 2010 package that's making trouble. PC shouts down and reboot if I try to auto uninstall 2010. Anyone with experience or thoughts on this?

Hello,

I have uninstalled office 2010 few days ago and did a clean installation of office 2013.
But windows update is showing updates for both office 2010 and office 2013.

I have uninstalled office 2010 using Revo uninstaller so there are no traces
Am I missing something.

A:Office 2010 and Office 2013 both updates available

Hi there
Why on earth do people insist on using these 3rd party uninstaller apps for BOG STANDARD Microsoft applications --Ms OFFICE is one of the most used pieces of software on earth so installing / uninstalling it should be a breeze via STANDARD uninstall method.

Had you simply uninstalled via control panel then the entire problem would not exist.

Your 3rd party uninstaller obviously hasn't done its job properly as there is still some indication on your machine that Microsoft Update thinks you still have Office 2010 installed.

IMO 3rd party apps are better left for NON OS type applications - things like installing / uninstalling / updating software should be left to the OS itself. Very few 3rd party apps IMO should be allowed to interfere with the internal functions of the OS itself -- even AV software - but that's another issue.

My solution here would be to either restore your syste to a time before you installed the "Uninstaller" app or re-install a clean copy of windows, re-install the version of office you want and apply the updates.

Note -- when Ms updates programs it might make all sorts of registry changes "on the fly" and it's impossible for a 3rd party uninstaller to be able to handle or even find all these changes.

Cheers

Hi there
Just a quicky -- apart from using say a VM for testing Office 2010 I'd like to install on an existing machine so I can compare immediately if there are any significant differences between Office 2007 and 2010 before deploying for a lot of users.

I've never tried running two versions of office on the same machine -- are there any implications such as incompatable DLL's with the same name etc.

Anybody runnung both versions (32 bit even though I'm running W7 X-64).

Cheers

I have been running Office 2003 since it first came out and continue to run it on virtually all my computers. I have one recently purchased computer with Win7 and thought I would try Office 2010. Aside from the amazingly awkward interface and organization of things, I have noticed:

far more problems with corrupted files in Office2010 than in Office2003
Further, when I send documents via email between computers I find that some .docx files arrive as .dat files. Does not ever happen when files are simply move across the network
xls files created in xl2003 run much faster in their native environment than when translated into xl2010 and run in that environment (benchmarks on the two computers suggest that they are about = re performance)

Has anyone had similar problems

Hi,

I need to have Office 2003 and Office 2010 installed on the same computer. They won't be running at the same time, but both will be used occassionally so both of them must be installed.

I read somewhere that this is not officially supported but possible.

What's the proper way of doing so? Do I install the Office 2003 first and then 2010?

Is there a way to prevent the setup from running each time I'm switching between the versions? It takes up a lot of time and I think it's unneccessarry.

I want to set Office 2003 as default and I want Office 2010 to start ONLY if I start it manually or I choose to open a file only supported by the new version (like docx etc)

Here's the problem. I work for a school district and we have been using Office XP 2002 for years (and years and years ). We are going to be adding Office 2010. I was told they don't want to have just 2010 because some of the teachers that are set in their ways won't use it. I installed 2010 on my computer and also have 2002. When I try to open an Excel spreadsheet in a shared document it always opens in 2010. I even did "open with" and pointed it back to the Office 10 folder which contains Office 2002 and found the Excel exe. but it still opened in 2010 version. Same with Word and PowerPoint.
Personally I think we should just put 2010 on and give some workshops, but they aren't going to do that. Has anyone else ran into this? Is there a solution?
Thanks for any info you can give me!

Hello: I brought my MS Office to my new computer a few months ago. That version was/is 2010 on a windows XP. I now have the 2013 version of MicroSoft Office it is however the 64 bit version on a machine running windows 7 Home Premium.

I am concerned about losing my data over the transition.

I received the message that it is not possible to instal the 64 bit version until the 32 bit version is removed.

I would be very grateful if someone would provide guidance on the correct order and steps to accomplish this change over. The Data is backed up. I would not like to lose the Data in the various programs.

I have a MS Basic Office 2003 license and want the best legal way to upgrade at minimum cost.

In the end I need a license for 2010.

1) via Dell
2) via MS
3) box store
4) on line store amazon ?

I would say, BOX Store, and get only what you need. If Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Onenotes is fine, then get the Home and student. This comes with a license for three (3) machines, for less than $150.00 US.
But if you need Outlook, then you will have to get the Pro version or better.

I have a small problem that maybe someone can assist me with.
I recently purchased a new note book with Windows 7 and also purchased Office 2010, Home edition.
I downloaded the software and input my activation code satisfactorily and everything appeared fine, but when I reopen say, Excel or Word I get a message asking me to enter my activation code, but the heading on the message says ?Office 2007? although my software indicates ?Office 2010? at the top of the page.
Is it possible that my note book came with ?Office 2007? preloaded and doesn?t recognise the fact that ?Office 2010? is now loaded?
It also indicates that I can only open again 23 more times.
Your assistance would be appreciated.

Hi sidean & welcome,

Did you do a search to see if Office 2007 was listed on your computer?

As you are having an activation problem I would suggest you contact Microsoft Product Activation Center / Support directly.

Note with the phone option -
Step 5. If the automated service is unsuccessful, stay on the line and your call will be transferred to a Microsoft Product Activation Customer Service representative who will help you to activate your product. The representative will give you a confirmation ID number if your copy of product is genuine.

A:Kingsoft Office - seems quite compatable with Ms Office 2010

I've heard good things about Kingsoft and have been watching it as a possible replacement for M$ Office 2010 when Win 7 reaches EOL and M$ hasn't come to its senses about their one OS for everything B.S. Open Office and Libre Office depend on Java for some of their features and I do not want Java on any machine of mine, especially after the rash of security issues it's been having. However, I plan on using Office 2010 and Win 7 until sometime in 2019 when I have to decide between M$'s latest and greatest or go with one of the Linux flavors. Office isn't the only program I use that can cause compatibility issues for a switch to Linux although I suspect there will be fewer of those issues by 2019.

Any app that is pinned to the taskbar takes a few seconds (varies from around 2 to 5), before they respond, if I run the same app from a shortcut on the desktop, or the start menu they respond instantly.

Windows file explorer is a good example, run it from the taskbar and it can take up to 10 secs to open, but open it from the start menu or a desktop short cut and it will open instantly.

The only one I've noticed to open instantly from the taskbar is 'Store'.

This is a fresh installation of Win 8.1 with the spring update, plus all other updates, on a SSD. Does this happen with anyone else?

My question. When I install 365 will it override my existing office suite or can I have both on the same pc? Using 2010 for my own stuff and 365 for the charity stuff

If I can run both how?

If not will I lose everything of my own if after a year the charity decided not to continue 365 or if I ever stop working for them?

Is there a awy to make it so Windows 8.1 does not show any of the Modern Apps in the taskbar?

For instance, I like to keep NotePad8, Weather and some others running, but I don't want them taking up Taskbar realestate since (as far as I'm aware at least), those Modern apps will remain open until I close them for good by moving to the upper left part of the screen.

So, if anyone knows of any methods I could try to do this, I would be all ears! I suspect there's probably something I could do in the registry, and if there is, maybe someone could attach a .reg file for me.

I'm also attaching a screencap of what I'm talking about.

Thanks a lot, everyone!

I have a SAN administration tool I use that launches a Java app. The desktop shortcut that runs it looks like this:

C:\Windows\System32\javaws.exe "C:\Users\gm.KTC\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\14\391de28e-4bf1d62f"

When I pin this shortcut to the taskbar and launch it, I get a second instance of the icon in the taskbar (shown as running), and the pinned icon never changes to a "running" icon. If I launch another instance of the app (Shift-Click the non-running pinned icon) it will pair up both running instances and show me both when I hover over the running icon, so that part works, but it appears that the mechanism that links a running app to the taskbar gets confused by the shortcut.

Bug, feature, something worth reporting?

Geoff

A:Java apps confusing taskbar

I want to bump this...

I'm running multiple java applications - each is grouping itself properly - except not under the pinned icon, but under a new one. This is very annoying!

Where could one post a bug report?!

Hi. I have a brand new Hp Pavilion and while in the process of customizing my desktop and taskbar I found that i am unable to pin anything from the desktop or shortcuts I created (such as Microsoft Word, or the snipping tool) to the taskbar. I have tried all three methods to try and pin.
The only items pinned are the ones already there from the first boot.

I was hoping someone out there as some insight to this.

A huge 'Thank You" in advance.

A:Cannot pin shortcuts or apps to taskbar-Windows 8.1

Hello Marc, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I have a couple of questions.

Do the shortcuts still work?

Do you have the "Pin to Taskbar" item in the context menu of these shortcuts of application files?

Hi there, i have a problem after one of windows Update processes, i'm on Win7 Beta 7000 and all my default pinned apps buttons are gone, and "pinned app" feature is working strange.

A list of all the little strange problems happening:
-all buttons lost their extra features (recent doc, play/pause buttons for wmp, explorer particular list)
-a blank pinned app button that doesn't want to erase
-if i pin windows media player, when i open it another icon appears

Any idea?

Thanks!

Computer woken up from sleep, go to task bar to open an app, get flashes of app when selecting app's icon on taskbar, but app doesn't open. However, some apps open and some apps don't. Those that do open, when left clicked on for a menu item, the app closes. Although an app opens it is not functional. The only way to restore normalcy is to hard close the computer and reboot, then everything is OK.

Not sure what I've done/allowed but all of a sudden I can't get my open applications to register as radio buttons on the taskbar. They are gone. Just happened and I can't think of a program I have added.

Toshiba portege with MS XP Tablet edition, IE 6.0 with sp2.

Any help would be appreciated.

OK, here goes my first post.
I just restored a HP dv5 laptop to factory original. In setting it up the way I want, I noticed that Windows Media Player was pinned to the task bar. I unpinned it but it returns when the computer is restarted.
I looked in the start folder, found it empty. Checked the Run & Run Once sections of the registry and found nothing related to the media player. I am at the limit of my ability at this point. So I ask my question finally.
How do I prevent Windows Media Player from being repeatedly pinned to the task Bar?

A:Pin/unpin apps to taskbar problem in Win 7/64 Pro

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I know Factory restore sounds like a great thing to do but it's not all that hot as you would expect because of all of the now expired trial software commonly know as junkware,
if you truly want a Fresh start see these for the best chance at a great re-install of windows 7,
This is most likely your best bet because computer manufactures stopped a long time ago from shipping reinstall disks with computers,

Hi, I am a greenhand for the Windows7 deployment via MDT.

I am currently facing an issue, I downloaded the ATI drivers from Dell Offical website (I am using Dell laptop), they I extracted the driver files using the 7zip, then imported the files to the MDT Out-of-box drivers, but this could only import the driver files, for the application, MDT couldnot import.

Is there anyway to import the both Drivers and App of the ATI together to MDT, thus when deploying the windows, the drivers and app of ATI can be installed along with the Windows OS.

Appreciate your comments/suggestions. thanks in advance.

Ethan

After Nvidia GeForce Experience crashed during a GPU driver update, my modern apps (Store, Images, Groove, etc..) do not start and return error message "The app didn't start". My start button is unclickable and my search bar does not wor either. In event viewer I see an event ID 5973 from the source "Apps", stating that the activation of -some modern app-.App failed. This event happens every time I try to launch a modern app, click the start button or use the search bar.I have tried removing the TileDataLayer, replacing with a fresh one from another user, re-registering Store apps, clearing the Store cache, rebooting various times, and signing in with different users. The issue persists on other users as well.Is there anything I haven't tried yet that could be worth a shot?Don't worry if plan A fails, there are 25 more letters in the alphabet ;)

I just noticed something. I hardly ever use Store Apps but I had cause to look at a couple just now.
The Task Bar, which I'd noticed previously when using Store Apps would hide itself after a moment, and could be recalled with a mouse movement downwards, is now on screen permanently.

is that normal? I like it like this! The title bar does vanish and reappear as expected.

EDIT: I just did a little reading and see it's not just me. I also have the desktop 'drop shadow icon text' that just won't go away even after registry hacks.
I do hope Windows 9 doesn't inherit any of this kind of thing!

A:Taskbar remains on screen even in Store Apps.

Hello Mark,

Since the August 12th 2014 Windows Updates, the taskbar will on some PCs always show on the Start, apps, and PC settings screens if you do not have the taskbar set to auto-hide and you open the Start screen by pressing the Start button on the taskbar while on your desktop. If you multiple screens, then this doesn't apply.

If you do not have the taskbar set to auto-hide or you open the Start screen by pressing the Windows key, you will not see the taskbar on the Start, apps, and PC settings screens unless you open the taskbar using step 5 below.

Taskbar - Open in Windows 8.1

Hope this helps,

Hi.. I have been having this problem for 4 days now. Ive been trying to find all solutions related to fix this problem. In the end. I have just fixed the PC SETTINGS and STORE APP. As of today all of the apps have been repaired and installed via STORE but the problem still persist. Even though they have been repaired and installed. They can't open on maximized mode. Can anyone have some possible solutions for this type of problem? Btw. I have already made this steps.

1) Chkdsk /f /r
2.) Reregister Store
3.) Scan for virus via ESET NOD32
4.) Almost all of the options on the thread Apps and Tiles Not Working or Responding: Fix in Windows 8
5.) sfc /scannow
6.) Fixed problems via Advanced System Care Ultimate 7
7.) Fixed problems via CCleaner.

Now the only problem i have is the apps can't be opened.
