Pinning programs to the RIGHT of the taskbar?

Q: Pinning programs to the RIGHT of the taskbar?

Is this possible? By default, pins lock to the left side, but is it possible to lock SOME of the programs to the right? (Not in the notification area)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Since Win7 does not seem to have the 'All Programs', it is a little clumsy to e.g. pin programs to the taskbar. Right now I do it via the program files. Is there an easier way??

A:Pinning programs to taskbar

Yes, open start menu, and type the name of the program you want. Right-click it, select advanced, and pin to taskbar.

I am trying to pin a document to the taskbar. However, what gets pinned is the program that opens the document and not the document itself, so instead of just clicking on the icon to open the document I need to right click on it and then select the document.

Is there any way to pin the document itself so that clicking on the icon will open the document?

A:Pinning documents to taskbar instead of programs

No, but you can choose document from jump list...

Hi All

I am new to windows 8 but have been finding my way around, One problem I am finding is that some websites I visit to "Pin To Taskbar" seem to only show a blank icon! No name but text but when you change the text it doesn't change on the icon? strange one particular site is the Nationwide bank page cannot seem to get an icon with a name on it?

Anybody got any ideas as to why this happens on only a few sites?

cheers!

A:Pinning To Taskbar

Hello Gatewaya, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It depends on what favicon is used by the site for what icon the URL shortcut will have on the middle of it's page icon. I have a icon for Nationwide bank for me, so you might see if deleting your temporary internet files and history and reloading the site may help.

If you like, you could also pin the site in the jump list of the browser's icon on the taskbar.

Not a huge issue more of just something i was curious about, why cant the "computer" desktop icon be pinned to the taskbar? I know that it is possible to pin the windows explorer but i want it to have the computer icon or at least the c drive icon.

A:Pinning to taskbar

I haven't found the reason why it's not possible to pin the Computer icon to the superbar. Maybe it's because it belongs in the explorer - who knows. You can pin it, though, if you really want to. There are some guides already posted around here somewhere. You basically create a shortcut, then point that shortcut to where the My Computer icon points to, then pin it to the superbar.

Hi guys, I'm having a serious problem here. I wanted to add a folder to my windows explorer pinned folders so that I can right click on the windows explorer icon on the taskbar and have my popular folders right there. When I first setup windows 7, I did this by right clicking on the folders I wanted and clicking "Pin to Taskbar." Now, when I right click on folders, there is no such option. Even libraries only have the option to "Pin To Start Menu" which is strange because I had already pinned a library to the windows explorer icon on the task bar, which means that must have been an option before because I don't know how else I would do it. Can someone please explain to me how I can add more folders to the windows explorer icon? This is very frustrating

I know about the tutorial explaining what to do using the toolbar method, but I don't like the separator between the Recycle Bin and the rest of the icons. There is another recommended method of pinning the Recycle Bin by creating a shortcut and using shell:recyclebinfolder, but this stopped working. In fact, all my folder shortcuts I created and pinned to the taskbar by using explorer.exe in the target stopped working.

Is there any other working methods out there so that I can put the Recycle Bin icon anywhere I want on the taskbar without seeing the separator?

Something weird has happened to my taskbar. I have a few programs pinned there and everything was okay. Then today I unpinned Firefox from there because I wanted to change the icon I was using. After deciding I didn't like it I tried to go back to the one I was using but when I pinned it back to the task bar this problem occurred:

As you can see when I click on the silver Firefox icon, it opens up a new firefox icon (default icon) in a separate place, taking up unnecessary space. I can't figure out how to make it go back to the way it was where everything stayed within the silver icon.

A:Strange problem with pinning an icon to taskbar

It is indeed the browser being opened but the problem is it used to open up within the silver icon (the default firefox icon you see to the right has basically taken its place). It's a bit of an annoyance because it takes up the little space I have on my taskbar before things start getting combined and messy.

Sorry if what I'm explaining is confusing, it would probably be easier to show with a video or something.

If the programs you use have icons on the desktop, just drag the icon to the taskbar and drop it in an open area to the left of the double line or between existing generic icons. That will not remove it from the DT. You can also drag and drop the TB icons so as to rearrange their order across the bar, as well as delete any you decide you do not need by using the right click menu.

I've seen this in both Windows 8.1 and 10. Some programs get stuck behind the taskbar, like VLC, Spotify, Opera, and Powershell.
I want to have the taskbar at the upper edge of the screen, and it's not set to hide automatically.
Screenshot of Powershell and Spotify stuck behind the taskbar.

A:Why are my programs stuck behind the taskbar?

Just tried it here with the task bar at top and no auto-hide. Power Shell does get it's title bar up under the task bar when you open it, but as soon as you resize it even a little it pops out from underneath. Definitely a bug that should be reported via the Feedback app.

Hi,

It's been awhile since I've been on here, seeing as my computer has been running pretty nicely for a while. However, after coming home from a 2 week trip, when I turned on my computer and started to do my thing, I noticed I couldn't see any of the programs on the taskbar. When I right clicked it to enable the toolbar, there wasn't any option for me to click. Now, before I left for the trip, my computer was working fine. I have no idea how this happened, and I would very much like it fixed, since it greatly interferes with IMing =)

I'm not sure if I need to post any info, like a HijackThis! log or something, but I'll make sure to do it if it's necessary in fixing this problem.
Thanks!

The programs I try to open hide in the taskbar, and I can't maximize them, so I can't actually see a thing connected with the opened program except that it's in the taskbar...

Now:

- I tried sfc scannow, but it asked for the XP pro cd(while I have Home), tried inserting home, they said it's the wrong Cd.

- I tried chkdsk /r, Scanned all after reboot, no help except internet explorer works properly...

Any other solutions?!

I need help ASAP...

Thanks in advance.

This issue occurs when the following .inf files contain an incorrect source media description:
? Fp40ext.inf
? Ims.inf

To work around this issue, you must change the source media description in both the Fp40ext.inf and Ims.inf files. To do this, use the following procedures.

Back up the Fp40ext.inf and Ims.inf files
1. In Windows Explorer, click Folder options on the Tools menu.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show all files and folders.
4. Open the C:\Windows\Inf folder.
5. Click the Fp40ext.inf file, click Edit, and then click Copy.
6. On the Edit menu, click Paste. This creates a copy of the Fp40ext.inf file that is named Copy of Fp40ext.inf.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the Ims.inf file.

Modify the Fp40ext.inf and Ims.inf files
1. Open the Fp40ext.inf file in Notepad. The Fp40ext.inf file is located in the C:\Windows\inf folder.
2. Locate the line that contains the following text:
[Strings]
3. Locate each line that contains the word "Professional."
4. Delete each instance of "Professional" and replace each instance with "Home."
5. Save and close the Fp40ext.inf file.
6. Open the Ims.inf file in Notepad. The Ims.inf file is located in the C:\Windows\inf folder.
7. Locate the line that contains the following text:
[Strings]
8. Locate each line that contains the word "Professional."
9. Delete each instance of "Professional" and replace each instance with "Home."
10. Save and close the Ims.inf file.
11. Quit Notepad.

my friend had a problem where she could not see active running programs listed on the taskbar.

I think she did some tingling around. she told me first she lost her taskbar (lol) somewhere (probably just moved it to some place else).

now the taskbar is back and looks like normal. but when a running program is minimized it is not listed in the taskbar.

I did not get a chance to see her computer, so I don't get much of the picture. anyone has any ideas?

This symptom has been described here, but I have not seen any solution: Programs don't show on the taskbar of windows XP Pro Sp1a.

I have run full system scan of NAV and Housecall - clean apart from bytverify which is uncleanable (MS patch was applied for the VM problem).
I have run spybot and all is clean.
I have made all verifications regarding the greeting virus - clean

BTW, the other users that I have on this machine show normal behavior.

Please help

I will certainly try to help. When you say "all programs progress bar" what do you mean exactly? Please take a screen shot of that from whatever operating system you've seen it in and I'd gladly help you.

I'll tell you what I think you mean now. You want your internet browser to show you how much of a particular file you are downloading. You have that with the built in browser, Internet Explorer. If you'd like to add your programs to the taskbar, just start them from the start menu and, while the are running and their icon appears in the taskbar, right click and select pin to taskbar option.

Hello, you could go to Start button, press it, then in the run window, which is in all programs, accessories, type in msconfig then press okay, go to the start up tab and disable it there.
I use my ccleaner in Tools, startup tab and do it there. Either way will work.

Hello!

I had this problem with some programs, when I was running windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and now that I’ve upgraded my notebook to Win7 Pro 64-bit, I’m seeing this problem happen much more often.

When I open some programs, either the main program window or message box’s or menu’s, open up extending below my taskbar. In Outlook 2007 when I try to set up email accounts, the setup wizard go’s below my taskbar which means I can’t click on next or Finish. True Launch Bar is also another program that does the same thing and half a dozen other programs.

My screen is set at its max 1900 x 1200 resolution and the DPI is currently at 170%. Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT.

A:Programs keep opening below the taskbar

Ash, your DPI setting at 170% is the reason. Scale it back to maybe 120%

Hello, In my lower right-hand corner, next to the clock, my system programs (network bars, volume, battery life, AVG anti-virus, Safely Remove Hardware, Intel Graphics, Audio Controls, WLAN: On, Synaptics Pointing Device, Adobe Updates, etc, etc.) are spread out across the taskbar. They used to be in a drop down list with only an up arrow appearing. And I could call them up with the arrow at anytime. Prior, I only had about 3 items showing at any given time and could bring up any others with the drop down menu. How do I get them all back in the drop down list on the far right side next to the clock? The clock has never moved. Thank you!

I'm hoping there's a fix for this since I find it extremely annoying

As you can see in the picture when I open a pinned program it doesn't extend the icon but creates a new icon in the taskbar.
This is not happening with all programs like Opera, but iTunes and Skype are both prone to this problem.

Is there a fix for this... or is this because of the programs themselves?

I'm enjoying Windows and I really like how the taskbar functions I use it as a application launcher pretty much as an alternative to using programs Some look ugly taskbar. in the icons on my desktop except with some software For example I have a game I play often I pinned the updater to the game on the taskbar since it's necessary to run that before launching the actual game I Some programs look ugly in the taskbar. launch the game and it looks normal the updater is open and the object I pinned to the taskbar is in use However when the updater is finished and I launch the actual game it creates another object in the taskbar So now I have icons for the same game clogging up my taskbar I guess this doesn't sound like a huge problem but I'm a little OCD with my desktop as it is so this bugs me a little bit Is there anything I can do to make this look nicer Force the object for the updater and the game to group together in the taskbar maybe Or something Thanks

A:Some programs look ugly in the taskbar.

Instead of pinning the updater to the taskbar, why don't you enable the Quick Launch and put it there? I usually only keep 4 of my most often used programs visible, and simply access the others via the >> link on the right side, so that the taskbar doesn't get too cluttered.

Some programs don't show up when selecting start-programs.

With Win95/98 if you select .....start-settings-taskbar-advanced
you can click on programs and see the entire list
of installed programs.

Going to the same location with xp displays more of an explorer window. If I search for awhile I can usually find the program.

Is there a way to set it up like Win95/98 ?

I am probably missing something obvious.

Is there any way I can have my pinned programs on the taskbar separated from the programs that are running? I saw on my friends computer that all the programs he had open were on the right. The icons to start the programs were still on the left. So, when I click on, say, Chrome, the pinned taskbar icon remains unchanged. Instead, a new instance is opened on the far right. When several programs are opened, they are all grouped together. Unlocking the taskbar allows you to drag the barrier between the "opened" and the "available" sections.

I hope I'm making sense. I don't have a screenshot to show what I mean. Thanks all

A:Taskbar - open programs on the right

Ok, I'm not entirely sure and if I don't help then feel free to disregard but here's the approach I would take. First enable quick launch to lauch your programs from: Quick Launch - Enable or Disable

Next get rid of all of your icons from where they are pinned on your taskbar (once they are transfered to your quicklaunch)

Then I would use this tutorial to get the programs to be where you want: Taskbar - Center Icons

If you want I can show you what it would look like. Just let me know

Hello,

Hopefully i'm posting at the right section.

But I wanted to know if it is possible to make your pinned programs be at the right of the taskbar. So lets say you open a new program right now it comes to the right of the pinned programs right? Is it possible to move the pinned programs to the right and lock it there so that pinned programs are at the right and when you open a new program it just comes to the right of the ''Windows button'' as always. So the new opened programs still come at the left side but pinned stay at right.

Also a picture showing you what i mean.

Hi,

Can anyone please assist with some annoying behaviour displayed by my taskbar icons for open programs?

Basically, if I have two or more excel workbooks open and visible in the bottom left side of the taskbar as icons, when I hover the mouse over one of them it causes all of the excel icons to pop up as mini preview panes. Ideally, I only want the one that the mouse is over to pop up as the preview or if that is not available I would like to disable the pop up preview when the mouse hovers over one of these.

It seems as though Windows is popping up the preview pane for all open files of the parent program when I only want the one that the mouse is over or none at all.

I am using Windows 7 64 bit with Office 2003.

Any help most appreciated.

A:Taskbar Icons For Open Programs ?

I don't think it's possible to choose which programs have Aero Peek enabled or not, it's either on for all or off for all.

You can turn it off by Right clicking on my computer, and go properties.
In the left pane, click advanced system settings.
Then the first option Performance, Click settings.
And in the options find Aero Peek, and untick it.
Restart your explorer and you will no longer see the peek for any program.

Hope this helps.

I would suggest you run an Anti-Virus program. If you don't have one try this, it is free. Download Microsoft Security Essentials from Official Microsoft Download Center It sounds like a Virus has got you. Let us know if the program helps.

am i correct in saying that you are unable to pin programs which are ran in compatibilty mode onto the taskbar?

A:Unable to pin compatibilty programs to the taskbar

Short answer:
If you launch a program from a shortcut that has compatibility mode properties set you should still be able to pin.

Long answer:
Generally you can only pin programs to the taskbar that the taskbar knows how to relaunch. If the taskbar can determine which shortcut matches the process that owns a window that shortcut is what gets pinned. If it can only find the executable then it creates a shortcut to that executable and pins that shortcut. If it can't find any way to relaunch then it won't give the option to pin.

What process/shortcut are you trying to pin?

I would try doing a system restore back to the point before this problem started happening. Click start, programs, accessories, system tools, then system restore. Choose the date before this problem started happening and see what that does for ya. If that does not do anything post back and we can go from there.

If anyone can help me at all, I would be SOOOO grateful!!!

I am using Windows XP here - and installed my windows updates as usual on Friday, on restarting my PC however, I am unable to see any taskbar icons for open (running or minimised) programs!

So for example, you can start WORD, and nothing appears on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen!! It's not HUGE, but I can't flick between my open programs as easily as I could before..and my fingers are starting to hurt from ALT-TAB'ing!!!

Also, I noticed some weirdness occuring with the LANGUAGE TOOLBAR..it appears that if I close the language toolbar, my taskbar and start button disappear completely!!!!! ANY IDEAS!??

I keep my taskbar at the top of the screen I just like it there for ease of use I'm not trying to make windows look or act like a mac they annoy me with a lot of at interferes programs with Taskbar top of screen some their button positions and Taskbar at top of screen interferes with some programs whatnot I just like it up there on the top of my screen However a lot of applications start out up at the very top of the screen In XP they started out in the middle of the screen but in well they are all the way at the top And my taskbar is covering the menus and title bar thus not allowing me to grab and move them Any of these which are resizable by grabbing a side or bottom edge I just click there and windows will pop it down to just below the task bar But several aren't and I can't move the window in any way shape or form If I know the menu layout I can use alt keys to duplicate most functions but some don't have alt key equivalents or I just don't know them Is there any way short of moving my task bar or making it auto hide which I do NOT want to do to prevent this from happening or even just reliably fix it each time it does happen

Now use the arrow keys to move the Window to an appropriate position.

A:Odd problem with pinned programs on taskbar

I had the same problem. Heres what I did.

1. Delete all pinned itunes icon/s from the task bar.
2. Open itunes "normally" from desktop icon or startmenu.
3. Now this itunes (which you just opened) icon will appear on the task bar.
4. Right click on it and select "Pin this program to taskbar"
5. Now this icon behaves like all the other "regular" taskbar icons.

You can try this with other apps too.

Can we change the arrow for more programs in the taskbar ?

Could we change that arrow to be more like vista's style... pointing to the left rather than pointing up.... I liked more vista's arrow pointing to the left for more programs in the taskbar, the one near the clock and the volume and network icons if these are enabled to be viewed as well.

Problem developed in the interactive mode (how ?)
and was not caused by an installation.
No change after restart.

In Vista and older versions, if I right clicked on a program in the taskbar I could then move the mouse up ever so slightly to click "close."

Now there is a weird little "box" that pops up instead of a menu, and I have to move my mouse significantly further to get to "close." Sounds trivial, but if I am shutting down several applications in a row it is much slower this way.

Is there a way to return the right click menu to normal?

Hi I was sick of windows and decided to switch to linux I found amazing linux distribution which is called Elementary OS Freya and looks just amazing Really nice and on not running Do taskbar show programs minimalist Unfortunately I'm an D artist so I'm a software dependent so I can't use linux because the support for programs is horrible Even though I managed to get Maya working on linux Do not show running programs on taskbar I've got wrong drivers for my AMD graphics card I tried downloading drivers from AMD web page but those drivers made my computer to crash and I had to restore linux and try again So I was pointless because even graphic drivers wasn't working at all so I had to switch back Windows is really good stable and reliable OS and the program support is amazing but I'm just got tired of all the same looks It's just so annoying Lets take file explorer for example There's a lot of buttons and everything that nobody's using and it just looks horrible and you have to customize shit out of it to get rid of all that stuff So as you may have understood I'm trying to make Windows look more simple minimalist and eye-catching Linux has this amazing thing that you can change desktop environment For example Freya OS is basically Ubuntu but with different desktop environment Ubuntu's using Unity and Freya's using Pantheon And the thing is that if you want to get the looks of Freya OS on Ubuntu you don't have to reinstall your OS You just install different desktop environment and boom as soon as you restart your pc Ubuntu loads Pantheon instead of Unity I thought why Windows couldn't have that kind of stuff Well as it turns out it can and there is few desktop environments for windows that can change explorer and all the shell and use custom instead but those look awful Don't understand why would people even consider using those Anyways there is one custom desktop environment which is called LiteStep and it has some decent looking themes but unfortunately it's kind of old so there's no support for Windows I saw some people taking initiative and making it work on Windows but I couldn't get it working Well technically I could and I used it with default theme which is even worse than default Windows looks and I tried to download some custom theme and nothing worked because theme required and all of the themes does som additional modules And there's thousands of those and the server was down so I wasn't able to download modules and use the theme So it was just useless So now the only thing that I was able to do was to install som custom themes for windows and so on and I got it looking pretty nice but there's only one thing left and I can't fix it I'm using Nexus Dock and I'm having my taskbar at the top of the screen which is okay It actually looks a lot like Freya OS which is nice But there's only one thing that annoys me As soon as I open some program it shows on the taskbar Do any of you have any idea how to disable that I don't want to disable taskbar or hide it or whatever I want taskbar to be on a top of the screen and I want to have dock at a bottom of the screen and when I open programs I don't want to see them on a taskbar I hope that some of you knows at least something to help me of solving this thing Thanks in advance Also I attaching an image so you could see what's going on

A:Do not show running programs on taskbar

So since I've got no help I continued on searching and found a program called QuickHide which hides all the applications from taskbar which was exactly what I was looking for. With that program I could use Dock instead of taskbar and programs don't appear on a taskbar. However, there's nothing perfect and controls of that program sucked. You start the program, then you press CTRL for hiding the icons and Shift for showing icons again. So guess what happens when you write and press Shift for typing capital letters, yes, the icons reappear which was disappointing. But if you would press End key then the program would terminate. And if you pressed End while icons where hidden it doesn't matter if you press shift or whatever, icons doesn't show up again which is perfect. So I did a lil bit more research and put together a simple Visual Basic script which, on startup, launch QuickHide.exe then waits for a 5 seconds because my pc is a bit laggy at startup so I need like 5 secs to be sure that program is running, then script simulates CTRL and End keys. So basically script runs QuickHide, then hides icons and the terminates program. Which is perfect, because when you start any program from dock, nothing appars on the taskbar. So if you want to have the same thing I'm putting the script here under my text and I'm attaching the screenshot showing dock, programs running but not showing on a taskbar.

Cheers,

Script:

set shl = CreateObject("Wscript.Shell")
shl.run "C:\Users\QuickHide\QuickHide.exe"
WScript.Sleep 5000
shl.SendKeys"^"
shl.SendKeys"{END}"

I apologize - I know I made a post about this a while back, but I have since forgot what the solution was and so I have to ask again. Old age, ya know...lol.

Anyway, I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. A problem I run into every once is when I click on a program icon in the taskbar that program never opens. This doesn't happen a lot, but enough to be annoying. I have never found any solution or even a clue to what could be causing this in all the forums and web sites I've visited.

Whatever info you need me to post I will be glad to do it. I would appreciate any help I can get.

Thank you.

Hi Desktop. Welcome back.

According to this post, you found the answer elsewhere, but don't say where or what the answer was:

Programs sometimes don't open?

It's always good to go back to the forum wherever you posted the question to update the thread with whatever solution you may have found.

At any rate, have you tried this?:
