Q: font size

I would like to increase the font size on my W7. On everything. I don't want to go here an there to accomplish this but to just change the default font style and its size. My eyesight is getting worse as I get older. The picture you see was taken in 1974 when I was 44.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just bought myself a 4tb WD green, and wondering if I should just go 64k Allocation Unit Size.

Mainly going to be used for video, I've got a 2tb drive sitting around I can use for everything else.

Any reason why I shouldn't go 64k?

A:Allocation Unit Size

The larger the allocation size, the fewer the files that can be stored in that partition.

Take a gander at your Video folder, set the view to details, then click the column heading SIZE twice - - that will cause a sort descending of the folder content.

An ideal size would be the AVERAGE SIZE(all the files therein) - - but there's not tool to find that number :sigh:

I would choose a number that best fits the most dominant size shown,

This could very well be in the hardware category for printers, but for now I think it's related to the OS?
We have Win7 machines and Win Server 2008 R2 machine acting as the print server.
Using PCL driver.
FX ApeosPort IV C2275 printer
Using Standard TCP/IP port 'hostname'
Some documents with specific print settings (e.g. page range, as opposed to 'current page') fail to print. Details:

Print is 'successful' as shown by Windows.
Print job spools 'successfully', is inserted into print queue.
No print job appears from printer, nor is there any record of the job on the printer.
Page count on queue is N/A, size is 0

Any ideas? Changing protocol between RAW and LPR makes no change.

A:Print spooler zero size

Hmm; is the print driver the latest version?

Test and fix on the hosting machine first (aka the Win Server 2008 R2 machine) as that has to work correctly if the clients are to have any hope.

A:External HDD showing 0MD size due to delayed write failed errors
Check the drives for errors as instructed in the link above^. This may take a few hours depending on the size of the drive. If this fails then we will resort to other options. After doing some research, it seems as if this error occurs a lot in XP.

I have an Gigabyte Radeon HD7770 1GB card. It works just fine, but I have noticed an issue where memory size detected differs from the actual size.
For example dxdiag (both32 and 64bit) detects only 700MB. So does Can You run it (from time to time).
I did validation with GPU-z and it does show proper size at 1GB:

I am wondering whether this might be due to a faulty card or (crossed fingers) nothing to worry about. I love this card and it would, obviously, really blow if it's defective.

Almost forgot to add that I am, currently, running on Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium. Windows 8 Pro 64Bit show the card as having 768MB of memory.

I'm currently running a machine with an 8-core processor and a 550W Power Supply.

The machine won't run on all 8 cores. It gets to the "Windows Startup" screen and shuts down. It's not running hot as far as I can tell, and if I manually shut down a pair of cores in the BIOS it runs just fine. I am currently running it on 6 cores, but would like to run it on all 8.

Is my Power Supply not powerful enough, or do you think it's another problem?

These questions have been asked and answered over and over for the last ten years or so... I have a 1TB drive C, RAID setup (2 500GB Seagate SATA drives) for my OS and everything else, and a separate 420GB drive used as a backup drive for my music, documents, downloads and pictures. With today's CPU's, memory capacity and great computing speeds, swap files really aren't necessary at all... I'm about to buy a new LCD monitor to connect with my laptop. My laptop has a 15,6 inch screen with 1920x1080 resolution. For my external monitor I'd like to have the same resolution, but what about the size?

Does someone have any recommendations? Not to big (right now I'm using a 32 inch TV, way to big to be comfortable), but not so small that I have to sit too close to the screen. I'm thinking somewhere between 19 and 24 inches. Any opinions?

A:Recommended monitor size for 1920x1080

I have a couple 22" Acer monitors, my only complaint on them is their default color settings are horrible. That is of course fixable with your video card's control settings. I got a pretty good deal on mine about 6 months ago, I don't know what they cost now, but it should be pretty reasonable.

They replaced 2 Benq 20.1" 1680x1050 monitors which I really liked.

You mean if the program is on the SSD with the OS? Id guess so since it will write the data faster, but I am not expert and on top of that I don't have a SSD. But also a GOOD CPU will play a good roll in that.

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking at this case for my new build. It seems like a nice cheap case for my build, but I'm worried about its size. I'm getting a GTX 570 which is 10.5 inches long and I've read a couple of reviews about people having trouble fitting shorter cards in there, but some reviews said that largers ones like the 570/580 could fit.

I'm just wondering if anyone had this case and could give me some insight on this. Currently this is the only thing stopping me from deciding on this case.

I was also looking at the Cooler Master HAF 922 which plenty of reviews say anything can fit in there, but its costs twice as much.

Thank you

I am working on a aspire laptop that currently has 512 Memory. Do I HAVE TO add the same size memory to get the Dual Channel performance or can I add a 1GB module to the system (resulting in a 1.5 GB system) and not have issues. I know the speeds have to be the same.
Is this process any different than installing memory in a tower system?

A:Is RAM size an issue in laptops?

Laptops are usually fitted with SD-RAM, which is smaller than standard PC based DDR RAM.

In order to use dual channel they need to be of the same size, and ideally the same speed, although the latter isn't so much of a worry as it will default to the lowest speed out of the two RAM sticks fitted.

With the cost of RAM these days (and assuming your laptop will take it) I would recommend you purchase a 2GB kit consisting of 2 1GB sticks.

In respect to fitting the RAM, its all dependant on how easy the laptop manufacturer has made fitting the RAM. Some laptops require the keyboard to be removed in order to change the sticks, others you can just remove a panel on the underside of the laptop and they're exposed and easily changed.

The RAM is fitted by lining up the stick at 45 degrees to the socket, and then sliding it into the socket til resistance is felt, then pushed down til it locks into place on the metal clips. To remove the RAM, you just spread the metal clips on each side of the stick, and it then pops up. You'll see exactly how its done when you remove your old RAM sticks.

Quick question, is there an easy way to read the block size of a drive in Windows 7? I'd imagine there is but a cursory look on google usually ended up as linux commands which do not apply to me.

A:Partition block size, Windows 7

With NTFS there is no means to set blocksize and the cluster size is adjusted automatically.

With Linux, yes, you set the blocksize and describe the partition in terms of count of blocks.

Hello, my friend had downloaded Power Quest Partition Magic 8.0 and was installing it. But when the program asked her to make a Rescue Diskette, she realized that her Notebook does not have diskette drive. So she plugged in her flash drive.

Then her flash drive's size shrank from 2GB to 1.38MB. And folders inside it (as viewed on her notebook) had weird names (became symbols instead of English font)

She's now worried about files that she previously stored in that thumbdrive.

Is there any way to rescue those files and convert her flash drive back to its normal?

A:Please help, flash drive size shrinks because Power Quest Partition Magic 8.0

nope- those files are gone, they have been overwritten. The use of a file recovery program (many are free) may be able to get some of them, but many may be gone, the longer she waits the worse of the chance it will be that they are overwritten.

She will need to use partition magic - the same program to resize the flash drive.

It is HIGHLY inadvisable to partition flash drives. NEVER save ANYTHING on a flash drive that you cannot afford to lose. The media is unreliable by nature.

A:New Hard Drive size not being recognized

Are the new drives in RAID configuration too? And you replaced the old drives by replacing one, then letting the array rebuild, then replacing the other drive and rebuilding again?

Even if you replace the drives in a RAID array, the array itself is not automatically resized. Your RAID management software may have an option to resize the array to fit the new (bigger drives). If this is not the case, then you have to delete the existing and and recreate it from scratch.

I have four 184 pin-DIMM sockets
Supports Dual Channel DDR 400 ECC/non-ECC un-buffered memory
Suppports up to 4GB RAM
Existing Memory is OCZ DDR PC-3200 / 400MHz / Value Series / Dual Channel .

New memory is Micron/Crucial 1GB PC2700UNBUFF PBF /333Mhz

This would make a total of 3GB and totally populate the MBD with 4 sticks.

I spent$70 (if I get the rebates) for the new 2GB of memory.

1. Do I keep the faster 400MHz 1GB memory in Bank A
2. Do I need all 400MHz memory? (I can return the new stuff)
3. Can I overclock any of this if it is better matched?

Any comments appreciated. This is a noobe post. (My first post.)

Generally, the more cache, the faster your programs loads.

I have a new 80Gb USb drive, but the computer only says it's about 76.53 Gb, where's the remaining 3+ Gb?

A:Actual size of USB drive not displayed

It is the way the drives are labeled. Hard drive manufacturers use 1000 bytes for a megabyte and windows sees it as 1024 per megabyte. Its just how it is these days. Any 80gb hard drive you buy will be 76gb when you put it into an operating system.

Just been having a look in my bios. I noticed 2 intresting sounding settings and wondered exactly what they did.

A: graphics win size, Options for 2 mb, 4mb, 128mb, 256 mb.

B: Vga boot from. Options , auto, external agp, external pci.

I have a 256 mb AGP graphics card, how should i set these?

A:Graphics win size?

A: this sets the amount of memory you allocate to video from the on board RAM. As you have not posted your system spec (please do it now!) and you have an AGP graphics card it is not important.
B: VGA boot - not critical but set it to auto and the let the system get on with it. You could try the external AGP and test if you get a marginally faster boot from it. It will be milliseconds different!

19 inches on up... provided you have the real estate to set it up on your desk.
A high quality 19 inch is a much wiser choice than a 24 inch with low resolution, bad inverter, poor adjustability, angles of view, low contrast, low reliability and early failure.

I also used and tried to upload it onto there temporarily, but it still is being read as 72 MB. What's the problem?

A:Wrong File Size problems

Create a File Folder with the "New" command.
Then drag the .mdf file into it.
Then right click on the folder, then scroll down to the bottom of that folder, and click on properties.
Regardless of whether it is 72 mb or 4.06 GB, select the folder add it to the copy list.

He is now having problems with his system dropping hard drives etc and reading probs should I remove the 333 and leave the 400 and see if this removes the size error prob?

It may very well be a ram incompatibility problem, or maybe a bad ram stick.

Does anyone know if you are installing 3 320gb hard drives in RAID 0 if they are ok to be kept as single partition of 960gb or does it need to be spit into partitions? And if there is a max on how big a hard drive can be seen as in vista what that would be.

A:what is the maximum partition size in vista?

I don't know much about RAID, but Vista won't have any problems with that size. Biggest hard drive for NTFS is 256TB I think, might run into motherboard problems before that.

I'm fairly new to comparing video cards, and finding up to date, unbiased articles on this is a pain, so I ask you kind folks this -

I have a choice of buying 2 similar cards:
1) GeForce 7600 GS with 512MB video memory and 128-bit memory bus.
2) ATI Radeon X1900 GT with 256MB video memory and 256-bit memory bus.

Most other attributes are similar but the ATI is slightly faster speeds (and higher price). Generally speaking though, what is more important: more memory? or better bus?

Another comparison in a similar price zone is a
1) GeForce 7600 GS with 512MB video memory and 128-bit memory bus, 533 MHz Memory Clock, 12.8 GB/s Memory Bandwidth. (heat sink-no fan)
2) GeForce 7600 GT with 256MB video memory, 128-bit memory bus, 1400 MHz Memory Clock, 22.4GB/s Memory Bandwidth. (fan)

Which of these two would result in better performance? Are fans that noisy?

A:Register size of Intel processors

Well, the register size depends on what kind of registers you mean and what mode the processor is in.

In full 64-bit mode, x64 processors have 16 64-bit general-purpose registers plus the floating point and multimedia stuff. You can still use all the registers with less than 64 bits of data of course.

A:Memory size, BIOS or system info??

most laptops contain integrated video which means the video card "steals" system ram for it's own use. That's why it is vital to always maximize ram in laptops. 1. You increase battery life and system speed. 2. you have more ram leftover even after video takes some of it.

bottom line - nothing to worry about for now.

Time to dispel some rumors! I just built a new system and I've got 2GB of PC3200 RAM installed -- plenty o' RAM to go around (It's an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium w/ AMD Athlon 64 4000+, 320GB Seagate SATA). Currently I've got it set to automatic page file settings (i.e. windows selects the appropriate page file size) -- is this an optimum memory setting? Should I set it to something manual or just leave it at system settings?

A:Recommendations for RAID 0 Stripe Size

Please bare in mind that the partition created from this array is going to be used for CD and DVD rips, DivX encoding, downloading large files to. Therefore, I am tempted to stray away from the suggested notion of pick the smallest stripe size possible because I will not have a lot of small files on the partition which will occupy this array.Click to expand...

Ok, I don't have any experience with RAID arrays, but lack of experience hasn't stopped me for giving my .02$ before, so why start now

Given the information you gave us, bigger strip size is GoodTM

You actually gave the answer in the text from Anandtech:

Now let's move to the same array with a 1024KB stripe size. When writing a 4KB file, the RAID array in this case does essentially nothing. Since 4 is not divisible by 1024 in a whole number, the RAID controller just takes the 4KB file and passes it to one of the drives on the array. The data is not split, or striped, because of the large stripe size and therefore the performance in this instance should be identical to that of a single drive.

Reading back the file results in the same story. Since the data is only stored on one drive in our array, reading back the information from the array is just like reading back the 4KB file from a single disk.

The RAID 0 array with the 1024KB stripe size does better when it comes to the 8192KB file. Here, the 8192KB file is broken into eight blocks of 1024KB in size. When writing the data, both drives in the array receive 4 blocks of the data meaning that each drive only has the task of writing four 1024KB files. This increase the writing performance of the array, since the drives work together to write a small number of blocks. At the same time reading back the file requires four 1024KB files to be read back from each drive. This holds a distinct advantage over reading back a single 8192KB file.Click to expand...

As the array will contain many large files, you'll get the best performance with the largest strip size... Any small files will only get the performance of one drive, but as you won't have many of those files (if any, why care too much about it?)

And with the average mp3 size being 4mb, you shouldn't see any slowdown of the array...

Whereas if you set the size smaller, you'll get the same scenario as below...

This pretty picture changes into a nightmare when we try to write the 8192KB file. In this case, to write the file, the RAID controller must break it into no less than 4096 blocks, each 2KB in size. From here, the RAID card must pass pairs of the blocks to the drives in the array, wait for the drive to write the information, and then send the next 2KB blocks. This process is repeated 4096 times and the extra time required to perform the breakups, send the information in pieces, and move the drive actuator to various places on the disk all add up to an extreme bottleneck.Click to expand...

Actually, that's a good number. With it, set DO NOT FRAGMENT.
MTU discovery will limit all upstream nodes to your 1492 and you should be fine.
Dial-up MTU is better with even smaller numbers, like 1024, so your graphic
problems are not due to the MTU choice you've made.

If all else fails, go back to "auto" but leave DO NOT FRAGMENT.
Packet reassembly (for fragments) is a typical hole for attacks which

I recently bought a PNY 3200 1 GB stick for my computer, to add on to my 512 MB PNY 3200. Each are the same exact brand and speed, only difference is in the size. They work flawlessly when separate, but not well at all together. I can guess that the two different sizes is what is causing the probelm, but I want to know if there is a setting or upgrade that can possibly fix this.

Intel P4 2.4 GHz
PCChips M955G Mobo
PNY 3200 1GB and 512 MB RAM

A:Same brand, same speed, different size ram problems

they may be the same brand and speed, but they probably have different timings which is most likely where your problem lies. that mobo cannot run memory in dual channel mode, so even if they did work together you would have no use for that 512MB RAM stick, therefore i highly doubt that you need more than 1GB of RAM.

Remove the 512MB and run it with the single 1GB RAM stick. I seriously doubt that even if they worked together that you would notice any difference in performance with or without the 512MB RAM stick

if you want to upgrade, then return the 1GB stick and get an identical 512MB stick as you already have, and buy a mobo that can run your RAM in dual-channel mode. That is where you will see your greatest performance gain

what is it?

i have 128 6600gt shouldnt it be 128?

A:Graphics aperture size

I would say yes, set it to 128MB.

Look HERE for further info on AGP aperture.

Now go and run that Memtest programme lol.

I just built a new system...and I am having many problems with my hard drives. I have on old 20gig hardrive that I have my os (xp) on and two 250 gig SATA. The 250's dont show up on "my computer" but i check the device manager and they are there but "unallocated"...I think I should format them but they only show as 128gigs is there a way to fix this? I had them on RAID 0 but deleted the array because I couldnt find a way to store anything on I being stupid ?

I read the sticky thread about maydisregard the first question but if you have a suggestion please go ahead.

A:Is there a limit on hard drive size?

[I believe this should be in another part of the forum...]

128 GB is basically the BIOS ATA limit, and you seem to have hit it hard.

Looks like your BIOS is too old and still tries and exports the IDE disk characteristics using its own registers.

Hi all, new user here.

I have a Jetway V266B motherboard. I've just added a 1GB PC2100 DDR 266Mhz stick into it but it is reading it as 512MB.

The spec of the motherboard can be found here:

I have recently flash the BIOS but this hasn't made any difference. It reads 512MB on the BIOS screen and on the Windows XP OS. Is this a problem with the memory (not being compatiable) or can is it just a setting on the system I have to adjust to read it?

If you have the time, the motherboard manual can also be found here:

Every help is appreciated.

I got a problem with installing windows on my SATA drive. The drive is detected perfect in BIOS, it gives the right capacity (250GB), also in DOS FDISK. But when I boot from windows installation cd, the installation detects a drive of 125GB instead of 250GB.

This is the only SATA drive i use, i use no IDE HD's. I set all the raid controllers on disabled in BIOS. I tried all the 4 connectors from the Nforce Sata connectors on the motherboard. but nothing helps. Does anyone know what to do about it?

The Sata Drive is a Maxtor DaimondMax 10 250GB SATA drive

Motherboard: Asus a8n-SLI deluxe
CPU: amd athlon 64 3500+
Memory: corsair 1024 MB DDR400

I've got a 128mb FX5900XT graphics card. Should the apperture size in the mobo bios be set to 128mb or can you get a little performance tweak by setting it to 256mb or will increasing the size actually degrade the performance?

Thanks for your help

Win XP home
P4 3.0 (478)
FX5900XT (OC)
Asus P4P800-e deluxe
4x512mb PC3200 400mhz ram

A:AGP Apperture size setting

you should just set the BIOS aperature to 128 MB, since your card only has...128 performance increase if you set it higher...since aperature is just an opening and your Video card won't even go at 256.

Hi I recently purchased a refurbished E-machine and after having to replace the memory finally got it to load windows and reboot corrrectly I did wipe the hard drive and reformat by writing zeroes then used the restore disks and re-inatalled the o s as it had gotten corrupted after the memory crashed I now have it running properly but the HD does not show correctly in the device manager or in the properties for each drive under my computer The HD is a Seagate Barracuda GB rpm I have downloaded and ran Seagates Seatools Desktop utility for checing the HD It found numerous errors on the first test and I selected to let it correc them then ran it again and it found errors and I again let it correct them Both tests showed no problems with the reported Hard size drive not correctly memory The properties within my computer for each are as follows C Local Disk GB Capacity GB Free D Recovery GB Capacity GB Free Hard drive size not reported correctly Is there a way to get windows to recover this free space that is not being reported I just got this all set up adn would prefer not to do a clean install but if that is what is necesary I will do that This is a model T- E- machine with WinXP Home pre-installed a Ghz Intel Celeron and Mg RAM I do have XP Pro available if I need to do a clean install as well as Symantecs partition magic although I looked through it it seems to be able to reassign volumes of already created partitions and not re-claim unpartitioned space Thanks much any help would be greatly appreciated nbsp

Are you sure it is the drive that is reported incorrectly? Pehaps you just have small partitions created?

I'm in the process of adding a Sapphire ATI Radeon 9250 PCI card to my eMachines computer and the embedded Intel 82865g graphics controller reduced the maximum image size to 14.9 x 11.8 - this is about 2 inches narrower than my 19" screen size. Is there a way to change the maximum image size to actually reflect my screen?

Hello, I currently have a 512MB Crucial PC3200 stick of ram this isnt really enough for most games. So i was wondering if someone would help me out on upgrading my memory.

These are my options:

1. Buy another stick of 512MB Crucial (CL=3). £38

2. Buy two sticks of the above ram giving me 1.5GB of ram in total. £76

3. Buy a set of Corsair TWINX Platinum (CL=2.5 ((on amd's)) and take out the crucail giving me 1GB. £85

Also my motherboard is 754 so no dual channel for me

Cheers for any help.

A:Memory timings or memory size?

Go for option 1 and see how much improvement you get. That will still leave option 2 available if you think you'll get still more improvement.

Can't set aperture size on GA-K8NSC-939

I have a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 mobo. Upon setting my ram timings to a lower latency, I did a CPU-z report. I noticed my video aperture is set to 32m. My video card is an ATI 9800pro 128m. AGP slot set to 8x at 3.0. But when I go into my BIOS settings, I can't find anywhere to set the aperture size. Not a straight forward option as most boards. Award BIOS flashed to version F6, but CPU-z reports it as F5. I can't upload my report as an HTML can't be posted ?!?!

Graphic Interface AGP
AGP Status enabled, rev. 3.0
AGP Data Transfer Rate 8x
AGP Max Rate -1x
AGP Side Band Addressing supported, enabled
AGP Aperture Size 32 MBytes

That's the entire graphics section of the report. Any ideas or help ??! thanks

A:Can't set aperture size

I don`t think you can change the AGP aperture in your bios, as no such option exists.

I have a friend with a Gigabyte mobo, and he has exactly the same problem.

You need the third party drivers for SATA. 130MB is a well-known hard disk size limitation - the drivers should help you around that.

Take a look at my digital shots of my LCD screen.

As you see there is strange shadow or something like that on the right side of my window. It's visible only at the right side of long text lines like:

This shadow is moving along with my window.

My LCD is connected via DVI-D cable.

Should I get this monitor back to my vednor ? It has 5 days only.

A:A font shadow on my LCD ?

It maybe the driver...

it maybe the driver but I am thinking it is just one of the random flaws that come with LCD... that is why alot of people that know what they are realy getting into still use CRT unless space is an issue. I have people calling all the time asking if I work on LCD and I tell them "No I do not work on CRT either ans the cost to do the work is often more then the cost of replacing the monitor as a whole.

I would look at trouble shooting the drivers and the video card(s) then look for system conflicts if that comes up clean borrow a CRT and see if the problem clears up if it does it was your CRT if not look at a file back-up and then reinstall the o/s and drivers. I can think of a few places that still don't sell LCD out side of order as needed, the have a few floor models and they just tell the customer that they are out of stock and if paid for it can be sent to their home or they can order one and the customer can come buy it at a reduced cost when it comes in.

Do the tests and look around for driver updates to everything on your system including the minitor Google shadowing+on+my+"name+model and if non of this helps I would just look at getting a CRT to replace it.

For a few dollars LESS you can get a much better PSU than the one you selected, if you don't need SATA or PCI-express.
